IB & IGCSE Home Tutors in Mazgaon, Mumbai

Looking for an IB and IGCSE home tutor in Mazgaon? Mazgaon sits on the Harbour Line while most international-board families here send their children south to Fort for school, so the tutor who can actually reach your flat on a Tuesday evening usually comes from the opposite direction to the school bus. Home tuition here has to be matched around that split.

Tutors matched within the island city, not pulled down from the suburbs
Subject specialists for IB PYP, MYP, DP and IGCSE, not generalists

How IB Gram matches an IB and IGCSE home tutor in Mazgaon

A request from Mazgaon is not the same as a request from Bandra or Powai, and the difference is geographic before it is academic. Mazgaon sits above the docks on the eastern edge of the island, on the Harbour Line, with Dockyard Road as its nearest station and the Mazgaon-Dockyard stretch as the strip a tutor actually has to arrive in. That line runs east and north towards Chembur, Govandi and Mankhurd, which is where a large share of experienced international-board tutors in Mumbai genuinely live. The schools those same Mazgaon children attend sit south and west of the hill: Fort, Babulnath, Colaba. So the first thing a matcher does with a Mazgaon enquiry is accept that the tutor and the school are going to arrive from opposite ends of the city, and plan for it rather than pretend it away.

The process itself is short and we keep it short on purpose. 1. You send the child's year, board, subject list and two or three evening windows that genuinely work rather than the ones that look good on paper. 2. We shortlist tutors who have taught that exact board and level and who can reach Dockyard Road, Byculla or Fort inside a commute they will still accept in July when the rain is in. 3. You speak to the shortlist yourself, usually by phone, and pick one for a first paid session at home. 4. That session happens in your flat with the child's own folder open, and afterwards you tell us whether to continue, adjust the plan or try a different person.

What you give us at step one decides the quality of step two. The single most useful thing a Mazgaon parent can send is the school's assessment calendar, because IB and IGCSE home tuition in Mazgaon is almost always remedial-by-deadline rather than remedial-by-topic: the child is not weak at everything, they are behind on one internally assessed piece with a date on it. The second most useful thing is honesty about the commute. Parents in the area type IB and IGCSE tutors near me Mazgaon into their phone at nine at night, but near me on the Harbour Line and near me by road are two different maps, and we would rather know on day one which one your tutor will be using.

We do not send a tutor on spec and hope the chemistry holds. A match that works is one where the tutor has taught the specific component the child is stuck on, can be in your building at the same time every week without renegotiating, and has read whatever the school has already told you. If any of those three is missing, the arrangement tends to collapse somewhere in the second month, which is worse for the child than never starting.

  • Year, board, subjects and two real evening windows start the match
  • Shortlist built from tutors who have taught that exact board and level
  • You interview the shortlist yourself before anyone visits the flat
  • First session runs at home with the child's own folder and deadlines
  • Tell us within the first fortnight if the match needs changing

Which programmes Mazgaon families are choosing between

Mazgaon households using international boards are usually running one of four tracks, and the tutoring needed for each is different enough that getting the label wrong wastes a month. The International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) runs from the early years to Year 5 and is inquiry-led with no external examinations, so tutoring here is about reading fluency, number sense and the habit of explaining thinking out loud. The IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) covers Years 6 to 10 and introduces criterion-based assessment, where a child can be strong on Criterion A and weak on Criterion D and see a flat overall grade that explains nothing to the parent. The IB Diploma Programme (DP) is the two-year Years 11 and 12 track with Higher Level (HL) and Standard Level (SL) subjects, the Extended Essay (EE), Theory of Knowledge (TOK) and Creativity, Activity, Service. IGCSE, typically Years 9 to 11, runs under Cambridge International Education or Pearson Edexcel and ends in terminal written papers.

The handover points are where families get hurt. A child moving from MYP Year 10 into DP Year 11 goes from criterion descriptors to a seven-point scale and a far heavier written load in a single summer. A child finishing IGCSE and entering the DP discovers that the IGCSE habit of revising past papers close to the exam does not survive contact with internal assessment deadlines that land in term time. Both of those transitions are the commonest reason a Mazgaon parent starts looking for a home tutor for all IB and IGCSE subjects Mumbai families can actually book on a standing weekly slot, rather than a crash course in March.

Board also changes what you should ask a tutor. Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel IGCSE differ in paper structure, in how coursework is treated and in the tiering rules, so a tutor who says they teach IGCSE should be able to tell you which syllabus codes they have taught and for how many cohorts. On the IB side, a tutor who has only taught SL will struggle with the extra HL content and the heavier assessment objectives, and the gap shows up in the second term, not the first. We match on the programme and the level together, never on the subject name alone.

If you are undecided between boards for a younger child, the honest answer is that the school you can get into usually decides it for you, and the tutoring question is secondary. What a tutor can do is tell you plainly what the workload curve looks like on each track so you are not surprised by it in Year 11.

  • PYP: reading fluency, number sense, explaining thinking, no external examinations
  • MYP: criterion-based grades that hide which skill is actually weak
  • DP: HL and SL choices plus the Extended Essay, TOK and internal assessments
  • IGCSE: Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel, terminal papers, tiered entry decisions
  • Transitions into Year 11 cause more tutoring requests than any single subject

Subject choice, HL and SL, Core and Extended: the decisions that set two years

Most parents arrive asking for help with a subject. More often the real problem is a choice made eighteen months earlier that nobody revisited. At IGCSE the tiering decision comes first: several Cambridge subjects are offered at Core and Extended, and the Core tier carries a grade ceiling. A child entered at Core because they were shaky in Year 9 can be locked out of the grade a Diploma Programme subject will later want, and by the time that surfaces the entry has usually been made. A good tutor will ask which tier the school has entered the child for before discussing anything else, and will tell you honestly whether a move to Extended is still realistic this cycle.

At the Diploma Programme the equivalent decision is Higher Level versus Standard Level. Three HL subjects carry most of the weight of the two years: more content, more demanding assessment objectives and in several subjects a larger internally assessed task. Families here often pick HL by university prerequisite alone, which is sensible, but then do not budget the hours. A child taking three HL sciences and a demanding Language A is signing up to a workload that no amount of tutoring in March can compress.

Then there are the internal assessments, which are the quiet reason most Mazgaon home tuition starts. Nearly every Diploma subject carries one: the sciences have the scientific investigation, Business Management and Economics have written commentaries, the languages have oral and written tasks, Visual Arts has the comparative study. Each is marked against published criteria by the school and then moderated externally, and each has a word limit the school will enforce before the IB does. Add the Extended Essay and the Theory of Knowledge essay and exhibition on top, and a DP1 student has a stack of deadlines that do not appear on any examination timetable.

What this means for choosing an IB and IGCSE tutor Mumbai parents recommend to each other is simple: ask what they have actually marked or supervised, not what they have revised. A tutor who has supervised an internal assessment through drafting, feedback and the academic-honesty declaration is worth more in October than a tutor who is excellent at past papers but has never seen a criterion grid.

  • Check the IGCSE tier entry before assuming the subject itself is the problem
  • HL adds content, assessment objectives and usually a bigger internal assessment
  • Most Diploma subjects carry one internally assessed piece with its own word limit
  • The Extended Essay and TOK essay land on top of subject deadlines
  • Ask a tutor what they have supervised, not only what they have revised

What a Mazgaon home tutor also covers: Byculla, Fort and Sewri

Mazgaon is a hill with docks at its foot, in Mumbai, Maharashtra, and its practical catchment for tutoring is tight. A tutor who takes a standing weekly slot here will almost always be covering Byculla to the north, Fort to the south and Sewri along the eastern shore, because those four are within a short enough hop of each other that two sessions can be stacked on the same evening. That stacking is what makes an all IB and IGCSE subjects home tutor in Mazgaon viable at all: a tutor travelling into the area for one lesson a week is making an uneconomic trip, and the arrangement quietly dies. A tutor with a Byculla session at five and a Mazgaon session at seven keeps it for the year.

The travel reality in this part of Mumbai is worth stating plainly because it is counter-intuitive. South Mumbai is dense and short-distance but slow. A tutor crossing from Worli to Colaba covers eight kilometres and can still lose forty minutes to the Peddar Road and Haji Ali signals in the evening peak. Distance on a map tells you almost nothing. For that reason tutors here are usually matched within the island rather than brought down from the suburbs, and when we do reach outside the island it is along the Harbour Line, not across the western spine.

Dockyard Road is the station that makes Mazgaon work. It puts the area on the Harbour Line towards Sewri, Wadala and onwards to Chembur and Govandi, which means a tutor living in the eastern suburbs can arrive without a car and without touching the evening road network at all. Road access from the east exists too, but a tutor who commutes by train is a tutor whose arrival time does not change with the weather, and in June and July that difference decides whether a weekly slot survives. The Western Line at Grant Road and Mumbai Central serves families whose tutor comes from the Churchgate side, and Metro Line 3 has changed what a Cuffe Parade or BKC-based tutor can reasonably offer in the evening.

Within Mazgaon itself the geography does one more thing to your schedule. The climb from the dock road up to the residential slopes is short but steep, and the lanes are narrow and often blocked by dock traffic in the late afternoon. A tutor arriving at Dockyard Road at six is not necessarily at your gate at six, and the honest fix is to set the slot at six thirty rather than argue with it every week.

  • Byculla, Fort and Sewri sit inside the same practical tutor catchment as Mazgaon
  • Dockyard Road puts Mazgaon on the Harbour Line towards Sewri and Chembur
  • Stacked evening sessions are what keep a weekly slot economic for the tutor
  • Worli to Colaba is eight kilometres and can still cost forty minutes in peak
  • Dock traffic and the hill climb add real minutes between station and gate

Why does the school run from Mazgaon go south while the tutors come from the east?

Because the international-board schools Mazgaon families use are not in Mazgaon. Children here travel south and west each morning, most commonly to Cathedral and John Connon School in Fort and to Bombay International School at Babulnath, both of which run IGCSE and the IB Diploma Programme. The tutor supply, meanwhile, comes up the Harbour Line from Chembur, Govandi and Wadala, because that is where tutors can afford to live and where enough teaching work exists to make the rest of their week viable. The school run and the tutor run point in opposite directions, and that is the one fact about tutoring in Mazgaon that is not true of most other Mumbai neighbourhoods.

The consequence is practical. Your best available match is often someone who has never set foot inside your child's school, has not met the subject teacher and does not know the house style of its assessment feedback. That is survivable, but only if the tutor is briefed properly in the first fortnight. Give them the school's term calendar and internal assessment deadline sheet, the last written report with the teacher's comments rather than only the grades, one marked piece of work with the teacher's annotations on it, and the name of the examination series the child is sitting. Those four documents close most of the gap that physical distance from the school creates.

A worked example makes the point. Take a Diploma Programme student at Cathedral and John Connon School writing the History internal assessment, the 2,200-word historical investigation built in three parts: identification and evaluation of sources, the investigation itself, and the reflection. She chooses the 1944 explosion in the docks below her own house, which is a strong local topic with real archival material. Her tutor lives in Chembur and is excellent on the component. What he cannot know unaided is that her school expects the source evaluation to be structured a particular way, that her teacher has already rejected two classmates' question wordings for being too broad, and that the school's internal draft deadline falls a fortnight before the one the student has in her head. Hand him the deadline sheet and the annotated sample and he is immediately as useful as a tutor sitting in the staffroom. Withhold them and he will teach the component correctly and still miss the school.

IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform and is not affiliated with Bombay International School, Cathedral and John Connon School or any other school named on this page. We name them because they set the calendar your family lives by, and because the pressure points in a Mumbai international-board year are set by school deadlines long before they are set by examination dates.

  • Families here travel south to Fort and Babulnath while tutors arrive from the east
  • Cathedral and John Connon School and Bombay International School run IGCSE and the IB Diploma Programme
  • Brief a new tutor with the deadline sheet, last report and one annotated script
  • School internal draft deadlines usually fall well before the official ones
  • October to December and February to April are the heaviest stretches

Home tuition, online or hybrid in Mazgaon: which one holds for a full term?

Home tuition holds best, and that is why it is what we lead with. An IB and IGCSE home tutor in Mazgaon who sits at your dining table has the child's folder, the school's printed deadline sheet and the annotated past paper in front of them without anyone having to photograph anything. For younger PYP and MYP children the physical presence also does the work no screen does: it stops the child leaving the table. The cost of home tuition is the commute, which you pay for in one of two ways, either in the fee or in the slot being at the tutor's convenience rather than yours.

Online is the right answer more often than parents expect, and in Mazgaon it is often the only way to reach a genuinely scarce specialist. If your child needs a Theory of Knowledge supervisor or a tutor for a less commonly taught Diploma subject, an IB and IGCSE online tutor in Mazgaon may be sitting in Pune or Chennai, and the alternative is not a better local tutor, it is no tutor. Online works well for essay feedback, for marking against criteria with the script shared on screen, and for short frequent check-ins during a drafting period. It works badly for a child who needs their attention managed, and it works badly for diagram-heavy working unless both sides have a tablet and a stylus.

Hybrid is what most of our Mazgaon families settle into by the second term without ever planning it. One session a week at home, where the longer teaching happens, plus one short online session timed to a draft deadline. The online session is the one that survives the week your child gets home from Fort at seven, the week the tutor's train is held up, and the week before the mid-term break when nobody wants to travel. Treat it as the resilience in the arrangement rather than a downgrade.

One honest trade-off about online that sales pages skip: a tutor who has never been in the room does not notice the things a parent does not report. They do not see that the child is working on a bed with a laptop balanced on a pillow, or that there is a television on. If you go fully online, walk past once a session for the first month and tell the tutor what you saw.

  • Home tuition keeps the folder, deadline sheet and annotated scripts on the table
  • Online reaches scarce specialists who cannot realistically commute into South Mumbai
  • Hybrid survives traffic, rain and the week before a mid-term break
  • Online suits criteria marking and essay feedback, not attention management
  • Diagram-heavy subjects need a tablet and stylus on both sides to work online

How are tutors checked before they reach your Mazgaon flat?

Every tutor is identity-verified, has their qualifications sighted, and has their board and level experience checked against what they claim before any profile is shown to a parent. We ask which syllabus codes they have taught, for how many cohorts, and whether that teaching was in a school, a centre or privately, because those produce very different tutors. A tutor who has only ever worked one-to-one may be excellent at explaining and weak at predicting what a moderator will penalise. A tutor who has taught in an IB school knows the moderation process from the inside. Neither is automatically better, but you should know which one is coming.

Verification does not end at the profile, which is why we treat the first fortnight as part of the check. You are looking for three things in those first sessions. Does the tutor know the component, not just the subject? Do they teach to the criteria rather than to the topic? And do they arrive at the time they agreed, which in this part of Mumbai is a genuine test of whether they have planned their evening honestly. An IB and IGCSE private tutor Mazgaon families keep for a full year is almost always one who was punctual in week one.

There are checks only you can make, and they matter more than anything we can do from a distance. Ask to see one piece of marked work the tutor has given feedback on, with the student's details removed. Ask directly how many other students they currently teach on a weekday evening, because a tutor with too many is the one who will cancel on you in February. Ask what they will do when the child's school deadline and the tutor's own plan disagree, and listen for whether the school wins. And sit within earshot for the first two sessions, not to supervise but to hear whether the child is talking or only listening.

On access, be explicit early. Most Mazgaon buildings want a name, a photograph and a phone number at the gate before a visitor is let up, and some want it in writing from the flat. Tell us the building's rule when you book and we pass it to the tutor before the first visit, so an IB and IGCSE home teacher in Mazgaon is not standing in the lane at six thirty arguing with a watchman about a lesson you have already paid for.

  • Identity, qualifications and board experience verified before a profile is shown
  • Tutors state syllabus codes taught and whether in a school, centre or privately
  • Ask to see one piece of marked work with the student's details removed
  • Ask how many weekday-evening students the tutor already carries
  • Send your building's gate-pass rule with the booking, not after the first visit

What do IB and IGCSE tuition fees in Mazgaon depend on?

Fees depend on five things, and we will not quote a number before we know all five: the board and level, the subject's scarcity, how far the tutor travels, how long the session runs, and whether the slot is weekly all year or concentrated into an examination run. We do not publish a price list because a published price is always wrong for somebody, and the parents it is most wrong for are the ones with an unusual subject, which in Mazgaon is a large share of them.

Level moves the fee most. A Diploma Programme Higher Level subject costs more per hour than the same subject at IGCSE, because the pool of tutors who have genuinely taught it is smaller and because the preparation behind each session is longer. Scarcity moves it next. Common Diploma sciences and the main language subjects have real competition among tutors in Mumbai and the rate reflects that. A less commonly offered Group 3 or Group 6 subject, or a Theory of Knowledge supervisor, has almost none, and the rate is set by how far the one available person has to come.

Travel is the factor parents in this area underestimate. A tutor coming into Mazgaon from the eastern suburbs on the Harbour Line is spending real time on your lesson before it begins, and if they cannot stack a second session in Byculla, Fort or Sewri on the same trip, that time has to be paid for somewhere. This is also why the same tutor may quote differently for a Tuesday than for a Saturday morning. Session length and frequency work the other way: two ninety-minute sessions a week usually cost less per hour than one ad hoc session booked three days before a deadline, because the tutor can plan around a standing slot.

When parents search for the best IB and IGCSE tutor in Mazgaon what they usually mean is the best value, and those are not the same search. The expensive mistake is not paying a high rate for a specialist. It is paying a low rate for twelve weeks of generic subject revision when the child needed six focused sessions on one internally assessed component. Before you compare rates, get clear on which of those two you are buying, and ask every tutor you speak to which one they think they are selling.

  • Board and level: a Higher Level Diploma subject sits above the same IGCSE subject
  • Scarcity: thin tutor pools in less common subjects set their own rate
  • Travel: an unstacked trip into Mazgaon is time the tutor pays for
  • Session length and a standing weekly slot usually lower the effective hourly rate
  • Last-minute examination-run blocks cost more than the same hours booked early

What progress looks like at four weeks, one term and one Mumbai exam cycle

At four weeks you should not expect a grade change, and anyone who promises one is selling. What you should expect by then is diagnostic clarity: the tutor can tell you in one sentence what is actually wrong, and that sentence should be more specific than weak in the subject. It should sound like she understands the content and loses marks on command terms, or he can do the calculation and cannot write the method down in a way a marker can follow. You should also see the child arriving at sessions with their own questions rather than waiting to be told what to do. If neither of those has happened in four weeks, say so.

At one term, roughly a quarter of the Mumbai school year, you should see movement on the thing you measure. For an IGCSE child that usually means school test marks moving in the right direction and fewer whole topics left blank. For a Diploma Programme child it is more often a completed internal assessment draft submitted on the school's internal deadline rather than the official one, because getting a draft in on time is itself the skill most DP1 students are missing. Marks on a first draft are the wrong thing to look at. Whether the draft existed on the day it was due is the right thing.

At one full examination cycle you can judge the arrangement properly, and only then. A cycle includes the heavy drafting stretch, the mock series and the real papers, and tutoring is only one input into it. Attendance, the school's own teaching, how the child sleeps in April and how many subjects are being carried all matter as much. We do not guarantee grades, and you should be cautious about anyone in Mumbai who does, because no one outside the examination hall controls the outcome.

The honest limits are worth saying out loud. Tutoring cannot fix a subject chosen against a child's strengths, it cannot replace classroom teaching the child is not attending, and it cannot compress two years of Higher Level content into a final term. What it reliably does is convert understanding into marks, keep internally assessed work on schedule, and give a child somewhere to be confused out loud once a week.

  • Four weeks: a specific diagnosis, not a grade change
  • Four weeks: the child brings their own questions to the session
  • One term: school test marks moving and fewer blank topics
  • One term: internal assessment drafts arriving on the school's internal deadline
  • One cycle: judge the arrangement only after mocks and the real papers

Starting home classes in Mazgaon: what to have ready for session one

Have four things on the table before the tutor arrives and the first session is worth double. The school's term calendar and internal assessment deadline sheet. The most recent written report, with the teacher's comments and not only the grades. One recent piece of marked work with the annotations still on it. And the child's own account, in their words, of where it goes wrong, which is frequently different from the school's account and occasionally more accurate. Parents who send these in advance get a first session that teaches. Parents who do not get a first session that interviews.

The first session itself is diagnostic and should feel like it. Expect the tutor to work through a recent script with your child rather than start at the beginning of a chapter, to ask which command terms the child finds ambiguous, and to end by naming two or three specific things to fix and the order to fix them in. They should also tell you what they are not going to cover, because a tutor who claims every weakness is addressable in the same term has not looked at the calendar. By the end of session one you should have a plan with dates on it, not a syllabus.

On logistics, settle the boring details before week two rather than after a problem. Agree a fixed slot and protect it, because a floating slot is the first thing a busy tutor drops. Agree where in the flat the session happens and keep it the same place. Agree what happens to a cancelled session on either side, and agree it in writing in the chat where you booked. Send the building's visitor rule to the tutor. We run all IB and IGCSE subjects home classes Mazgaon parents book for a full term, and the ones that run smoothly are the ones where these four things were settled on day one.

If you are not sure whether to start now or wait for the next term, start now if there is an internally assessed deadline inside the next eight weeks, and wait if there is not and your child is already carrying a heavy week. Starting badly timed tutoring is a real cost, not a neutral one.

  • Send the term calendar and internal assessment deadline sheet before session one
  • Have one recent marked script with the teacher's annotations still on it
  • Expect a diagnostic first session that ends with dated priorities
  • Fix the slot, the room and the cancellation rule in writing in week one
  • Start now if an internally assessed deadline falls inside the next eight weeks
FAQs

Mazgaon tutoring — questions parents ask

How quickly can you send an IB and IGCSE home tutor in Mazgaon?+

Usually within a few days for a common subject, and longer for a scarce one. An IB and IGCSE home tutor in Mazgaon for a mainstream Diploma Programme or IGCSE subject is typically shortlisted inside two or three days, because several suitable tutors already work along the Harbour Line and in Fort. A less commonly taught Group 3 or Group 6 Diploma subject, or a Theory of Knowledge supervisor, can take longer, and we will tell you that honestly rather than send someone unsuitable to meet a deadline. If your need is urgent because of a school deadline, say so in the first message and we will prioritise availability over the perfect profile.

Will a tutor from Chembur or Govandi really travel to Mazgaon on a weekday?+

Yes, and more reliably than a tutor from the western suburbs will. Mazgaon is on the Harbour Line, so Dockyard Road is a direct train from Chembur, Govandi and Wadala, with no road network in between to go wrong. That is why a tutor from the eastern suburbs often turns out to be a better bet here than someone from Worli or Bandra, who would be crossing the slow middle of the island at exactly the wrong hour. The condition is that the slot suits the train, so a tutor who proposes six thirty rather than six is usually being realistic, not awkward.

Our building near Dockyard Road has a strict visitor policy. How is that handled?+

Tell us the rule when you book and we pass it to the tutor before the first visit. Most Mazgaon buildings want a name, a photograph and a phone number logged at the gate, and some want written confirmation from the flat for a recurring visitor. The cleanest arrangement is a standing entry for a fixed weekly slot, which most societies will grant once they have seen the tutor twice. Send the tutor's name to your secretary in the same week you book. The avoidable failure is a tutor waiting in the lane while someone upstairs looks for a phone, which eats a quarter of the session.

Does the tutor need to know my child's school to be useful?+

No, but they need the school's paperwork. Because Mazgaon families mostly travel south to Fort and Babulnath for school while tutors come in from the east, your tutor will often never have been inside the building. That gap closes with four documents: the term calendar, the internal assessment deadline sheet, the last written report with comments, and one marked script with the teacher's annotations on it. With those, a tutor who has taught the component knows what the school expects. Without them, even a tutor who lives next door to the school is guessing about your particular teacher.

Why will you not quote a fee before a phone call?+

Because a quote given before we know the subject, level and travel is a guess that someone later has to break. Fees move with board and level, with how scarce that subject's tutors are, with how far the tutor travels into Mazgaon and whether they can stack another session nearby, with session length, and with whether you want a standing weekly slot or a concentrated run before examinations. Two families on the same street can legitimately pay different rates for the same subject if one needs Higher Level and the other Standard Level. One short call gets you a real number instead of a range you cannot plan with.

Does online tuition actually work for IB internal assessments?+

For internal assessments it works well, often better than home sessions. Marking a draft against published criteria is a screen-sharing task: the tutor has the script and the criteria side by side, comments in place, and the child can see exactly which sentence lost the mark. Short frequent online check-ins during a drafting fortnight also beat one long weekly visit. Where online struggles is diagram-heavy working without a stylus, and younger children whose attention needs managing in the room. Most families here end up running the teaching at home and the draft feedback online, which is the sensible split rather than a compromise.

What happens if the tutor is not working out after three sessions?+

Tell us and we change the tutor. There is no argument and no requirement to justify it at length, though the more specific you are the better the replacement will be. Saying the explanations are too fast, or my daughter is not talking in the sessions, or he keeps teaching topics instead of the coursework, lets us match differently rather than repeat the mistake. A change in the first fortnight costs very little. A change in month four costs a term. Most mismatches are visible by session three, so trust what you have seen rather than waiting to be sure.

There has been no visible progress after a month. What should we do?+

Ask the tutor for the diagnosis in one sentence before you consider changing anyone. At four weeks you should not expect a grade to move, but you should expect the tutor to say precisely what is wrong, in terms more specific than weak in the subject. If they can, the work is probably on track and the marks lag the understanding by a few weeks. If they cannot, that is the real problem and it is a matching problem, not an effort problem. Either way, raise it at four weeks rather than three months, when the examination calendar still leaves room to recover.

Can one tutor take both my children if they are on different boards?+

Sometimes, and it is worth asking, but do not force it. A tutor comfortable with both IGCSE and the Diploma Programme in the same subject area can run back-to-back sessions in your flat, which saves a commute and usually improves the rate. It stops working when the two children need different subjects, or when one is a young MYP child who needs a very different style from a DP2 sibling. Two shorter sessions on the same evening with one tutor is a real efficiency in Mazgaon, where the commute is the expensive part. Two compromised sessions is not.

Which IB and IGCSE subjects can you cover in Mazgaon?+

Across both boards and all levels, with real differences in how fast we can fill each one. Mainstream IGCSE subjects and the common Diploma Programme sciences, mathematics and language subjects are well covered by tutors living within reach of Mazgaon, Byculla, Fort and Sewri. Group 3 humanities, Group 6 arts, Theory of Knowledge supervision and Extended Essay support draw on a thinner pool, and for those an online specialist from elsewhere is often the honest recommendation. Tell us the subject and level in your first message and we will say plainly which category it falls into.

We get back from Fort late. Can sessions start after eight in the evening?+

Yes, and in Mazgaon late slots are common precisely because of the school run south. A child leaving Fort or Babulnath at the end of the school day, then doing an activity, is realistically not at their desk before eight. Tutors who work this area plan for it, and a tutor travelling home on the Harbour Line after a late session is usually fine with it. What does not work is a late slot that moves every week. Fix one evening and keep it, and tell the tutor at the booking stage that it will be a late start rather than discovering it in week two.

Do we need a separate study room, or is the dining table acceptable?+

The dining table is fine and often better than a bedroom. What matters is that it is the same place every week, has room for two people and a spread-out folder, has a plug within reach, and is not facing a television. Many Mazgaon flats are older and compact, and tutors who work in South Mumbai are entirely used to that. One thing to get right: sit within earshot for the first couple of sessions. Not to supervise the tutor, but to hear whether your child is talking or only nodding, which tells you more than any report will.

Find your Mazgaon tutor

Send us your child's year, board, subject list and two evening windows that genuinely work, and tell us which school they travel to and what the next deadline is. We shortlist tutors who have taught that exact board and level and can reach Mazgaon, Byculla, Fort or Sewri reliably. You speak to the shortlist yourself, then run one paid session at home with the child's folder open. If it is not right, say so and we match again.
