IGCSE Home Tutor in Cuffe Parade, Mumbai

An IGCSE home tutor in Cuffe Parade is usually wanted for one of three reasons: a Year 9 options sheet nobody understands, Year 10 coursework that has stalled, or Year 11 mocks four weeks away. This page explains how the visit to your flat on the seafront is arranged, who arrives, and what the Cuffe Parade calendar does to your timing.

Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel IGCSE experience confirmed before any shortlist
Weekly visitor entry agreed with your society office, not improvised

What happens after you ask for IGCSE home tuition in Cuffe Parade

The request we get most often from this neighbourhood is short: Year 10, two subjects, somebody at home by seven. Turning that into a tutor standing in your living room takes about three working days, and most of the work is scheduling rather than searching. We start by asking which board the school follows, because Cambridge International Education and Pearson Edexcel set their coursework and paper structures differently and a tutor who knows one well is not automatically fluent in the other. Then the year group, stated as the school writes it, and then the subjects in the order they are actually hurting. Parents arranging IGCSE home tuition in Cuffe Parade for the first time are often surprised that the scheduling questions come before the subject ones.

The second set of questions is about the flat. Which building, which floor, whether the society office needs a visitor cleared in advance, who is at home at that hour, and where the lesson will physically happen. These sound like trivia and they decide whether a booking lasts a term. A tutor who is turned away once at a Jolly Maker Apartments desk, or who discovers that the only available surface is a dining table under a television, tends to find reasons to be unavailable by the third week. It is better to solve that on day one.

Only then do we look at people. The pool for this stretch of South Mumbai is small and local on purpose, and a shortlist of three or four arrives rather than a directory. Each tutor on it has taught the exact board and year group, has marked coursework to the published criteria, and has confirmed the specific hour. You call them. A parent can tell in ten minutes whether somebody is going to talk to a fifteen-year-old like an adult, and no profile summary conveys that.

The first visit is a paid lesson with a job to do, which is to find out exactly where the student stopped understanding and to write down what the next three sessions will fix. You should receive a note the same evening saying what was diagnosed. If the chemistry between tutor and student is wrong, say so straight away and we send someone else for the same slot; nothing about the first session commits you to a term.

  • 1. Send the board, the year group, the two urgent subjects and your held hour
  • 2. Tell us the building, the entry protocol and where the lesson will happen
  • 3. We shortlist three or four island tutors with that exact board experience
  • 4. You call them yourself and pick on how they speak to your child
  • 5. Paid diagnostic visit, written note the same evening, re-match if it misfires

Cambridge and Edexcel IGCSE in Cuffe Parade: Core, Extended and the tiering question

The International General Certificate of Secondary Education runs over Years 9 to 11 in most schools here, and the single decision that shapes a student's two years is tiering. Cambridge International Education offers several subjects at Core and Extended, and Pearson Edexcel runs Foundation and Higher papers in its own subjects. The tiers are not easier and harder versions of the same paper; they are different papers with different ceilings on the grade available and different content lists. A child entered at the wrong tier either sits a paper that cannot show what they know or sits one that buries them.

That decision belongs to the school and it is usually taken in Year 10 on the evidence of internal assessments. A home tutor's job around it is to produce honest evidence, quickly, so the conversation with the subject teacher is grounded. If a student can handle Extended content when the pace is controlled but collapses under timed conditions, that is a technique problem and tiering down would be the wrong fix. If the content itself is out of reach in the time left, saying so early is kinder than discovering it in a mock.

Subject combinations matter nearly as much. Most students here carry somewhere between seven and nine subjects, and the load is uneven: two sciences plus a second language plus a coursework-heavy option can produce three major deadlines in the same fortnight. A tutor who has run Year 11 students through a full series can look at a timetable and tell you which combination is going to hurt in January. Paper counts, the duration of each component and how much any single piece contributes are set by the board and revised on its own cycle, so confirm those with your subject teacher and the current syllabus document rather than trusting any figure quoted from memory.

Where a family wants the next step mapped out, the IB Diploma pathway that many of these students move into has its own page on this site; this one stays on Years 9 to 11. Keeping that line clean matters, because the advice is genuinely different. A Year 10 student needs coursework scaffolding and tier evidence. A Diploma student needs a different kind of help altogether, and the tutor who is excellent at one is not always the right choice for the other.

  • Core and Extended, or Foundation and Higher, cap the grade differently
  • Tier evidence is built from timed work, not from how a student feels
  • Seven to nine subjects means the clash is in the calendar, not the content
  • Cambridge and Edexcel paper structures differ; confirm which your school uses
  • Component details change between syllabus versions, so check the current document

Which IGCSE subjects do families on the Cuffe Parade seafront ask for most?

Mathematics and the sciences, then English as a second or additional language, then the coursework subjects. Mathematics dominates because the IGCSE paper rewards accuracy under time pressure more than it rewards cleverness, and a student who understands the topic can still lose a third of the paper to arithmetic slips and unshown working. The repair is mechanical and unglamorous: timed sets, every step written, and a habit of checking the question has actually been answered. Families here ask about all IB and IGCSE subjects but a tutor in Cuffe Parade usually begins with two, because fixing two properly beats touching six.

The sciences split into content and practical reasoning. Biology punishes vague terminology, Chemistry punishes skipped stages in a calculation, Physics punishes an answer without units or a diagram without labels. Each one has a paper that tests experimental thinking, where the student is asked to spot a flawed method or suggest an improvement, and this is the section where students who have only learned facts fall away. A good home tutor spends time on command terms, because the difference between describe, explain and evaluate is worth more marks than another hour of revision notes.

English and second languages behave differently again. A directed writing task is marked on whether the register and audience are right, not on how impressive the vocabulary is, and a student who writes beautifully in the wrong form scores badly. Oral components are assessed by the school and need rehearsal with somebody who will interrupt. For coursework subjects, the task is to teach the student to plan properly and to write to the published criteria, without the tutor's own voice appearing in the draft; school coordinators here are alert to that, and academic honesty rules apply to outside help exactly as they do to friends.

What this adds up to is a request for sequencing rather than for subject teaching. A Year 11 student in February with a coursework deadline, a mock result that disappointed and a language oral to prepare does not need three tutors. They need one person who will decide, this week, what gets attention and what waits, and then say so in writing to the parent. All IB and IGCSE subjects home classes in Cuffe Parade are easier to run when that triage is explicit instead of being renegotiated every Tuesday evening.

  • Mathematics: timed sets, working shown, slips treated as the main enemy
  • Sciences: command terms and the experimental-reasoning paper, not just facts
  • English and languages: register, audience and rehearsed oral components
  • Coursework: plan to the published criteria, with the student's own voice intact
  • Two subjects fixed properly is worth more than six subjects touched

Covering Colaba, Nariman Point and Fort from one base in Cuffe Parade

Tutors who work this locality treat Cuffe Parade, Colaba, Nariman Point and Fort as a single patch, and the reason is arithmetic. South Mumbai is dense and short-distance but slow: a tutor crossing from Worli down to Colaba covers about eight kilometres and can still lose forty minutes to the Peddar Road and Haji Ali signals in the evening peak. Which is why matching here happens inside the island rather than by importing somebody from the suburbs, and why an IGCSE tutor Mumbai parents hold on to for two full years is almost always one who lives nearby. An IGCSE home tutor in Cuffe Parade is drawn from Colaba, Fort or the Churchgate side far more often than from the Western Suburbs.

Churchgate is the nearest station, the terminus of the Western Line through Grant Road and Mumbai Central, and it is how most tutors arrive from Marine Lines, Girgaon and the Lower Parel side. The Harbour Line down through Dockyard Road and Sewri serves anyone coming across from Wadala or Chembur, often by the Eastern Freeway, which makes the eastern suburbs less remote than the map suggests. Metro Line 3, the Aqua line, now runs from Cuffe Parade up to the Bandra Kurla Complex, and that has quietly changed who can take a late slot here. The Coastal Road has done the same for the Worli and Haji Ali approach.

Inside the locality itself the planning unit is the building, not the road. Lessons happen in Maker Towers and Jolly Maker Apartments and in the other blocks along the reclamation, and the thing a tutor remembers about each is its entry protocol rather than its address. Nariman Point is a ten-minute hop and matters because a parent working there can be home for a 6.30pm start that a suburban commuter cannot manage. Fort is the school direction, and children coming back from there arrive tired, which is a real argument for a slightly later slot on those days.

Colaba is where a useful share of the island's tutor pool actually lives, which is the most practical fact on this page. It means a request from the Cuffe Parade seafront can often be answered by somebody who walks, or takes a short cab down the Causeway, rather than somebody budgeting an hour each way. In Mumbai, Maharashtra, that distinction is the difference between a tutor who is still arriving punctually in month five and one who starts sending apologetic messages in October.

  • Churchgate on the Western Line is the main arrival point for tutors here
  • Metro Line 3 Aqua from Cuffe Parade to BKC widened the late-slot pool
  • Harbour Line via Dockyard Road and Sewri covers the eastern approach
  • Eight kilometres from Worli can still cost forty minutes at peak hour
  • Colaba-based tutors often walk or take a short cab to the seafront

Two boards, one neighbourhood: the Cuffe Parade assessment calendar

B.D. Somani International School sits in Cuffe Parade itself and teaches both the Cambridge pathway and the IB Diploma, which produces a local effect worth understanding before you book anything. The IGCSE Year 10 cohort and the Diploma first-year cohort living in these same buildings hit their internal-assessment deadlines in the same weeks. Tutor demand in this neighbourhood therefore does not rise gently across the term; it spikes in identifiable fortnights, and the evening slots go first.

The planning response is simple and most families arrive at it too late. Take a standing weekly slot in a quiet month and keep paying for it through the loaded one, rather than trying to buy four urgent evenings when every flat in the building wants the same thing. A tutor who already teaches students in Cuffe Parade can usually name those weeks before the term starts, which is worth more than any generic advice about revision timetables. Ask for that mapping in your first conversation.

Many children from these buildings also travel up to Cathedral and John Connon School in Fort, and the island's wider set pulls in other directions: Bombay International School at Babulnath, Activity High School on Peddar Road, Aditya Birla World Academy at Tardeo. Each sets internal deadlines inside its board's framework, publishes its own assessment calendar and takes its own line on how much outside help is acceptable on a coursework piece. Get that calendar in the first fortnight of the year and hand it to the tutor; it changes how a term is planned.

To be explicit about what we are and are not: IB Gram is an independent platform and is not affiliated with B.D. Somani International School, Cathedral and John Connon School or any other school named here. No tutor is employed by any of these schools, none should present themselves as having inside knowledge of a school's marking, and we name schools only because their calendars set the pressure points for families in this part of Mumbai.

  • A school inside the locality makes demand peak in the same fortnights
  • B.D. Somani International School teaches both pathways under one calendar
  • Cathedral and John Connon School pulls a daily commute up to Fort
  • Collect the school assessment calendar early and plan the term around it
  • No affiliation with any school named, and no tutor speaks for a school

Home classes, online or both for a Year 10 student in Mumbai?

Start with home classes and treat the rest as supplements. An IGCSE home tutor in Cuffe Parade who turns up at a fixed hour creates a lesson that actually happens, with the exercise book open and the phone face down, and for a fifteen-year-old that structure does most of the work. Being in the room also lets a tutor see what a screen hides: the half-done past paper, the notes that stop in October, the handwriting that an examiner would struggle with. None of that reaches you in a video call where the student shares only what they choose to.

The trade-offs are real and worth stating. A visit costs travel time, which is priced into the fee, and a fixed weekly slot is inflexible by design. Families whose evenings move around will find that frustrating, and the honest advice to them is online or a weekend slot rather than a weekday visit that gets cancelled twice a month. There is also a domestic variable nobody advertises: a lesson in a shared living room competes with a television, a younger sibling and the doorbell, and fixing that costs nothing except the decision to give the lesson a door.

An IGCSE online tutor in Cuffe Parade is the right answer in specific situations. Past-paper walkthroughs work well with a shared screen and an annotation tool. Revision cycles in the weeks before the series work well because frequency matters more than presence. A scarce subject taught to a high standard may simply not exist within travelling distance, and online access to a specialist beats a local generalist. What online does badly is hold the attention of a student whose actual problem is avoidance, and it is weak for early coursework planning when the data or the draft is on paper.

The arrangement most families here end up with is hybrid, and it works better when chosen deliberately. Keep the weekly visit as the spine, add a short online session the night before a test, and plan to move fully online for heavy monsoon weeks and for study leave, when three short sessions beat one long one. Tell the tutor at the start what the default is and what the fallback is. A tutor who knows the rule holds to it; a tutor improvising week by week is the one who eventually drops the slot.

  • Home visits hold attendance and expose the real state of the exercise book
  • Fixed slot plus travel cost are the honest downsides of a weekly visit
  • Online is strongest for past papers, revision frequency and scarce subjects
  • Avoidance and paper-based coursework planning both need a tutor in the room
  • Decide the hybrid rule in advance instead of renegotiating every week

How do you check an IGCSE home tutor before they visit a Cuffe Parade flat?

Four checks happen before any tutor appears on a shortlist: government photo identity, the qualification claimed, the boards and year groups actually taught, and references from families or schools they have worked with. The board check carries the most weight, because the gap between knowing a subject and knowing its IGCSE paper is where most disappointments live. We ask what they last took through a full series, which components the students found hardest, and how they handled a coursework piece under the school's honesty policy. Vague answers end the conversation.

Then there is the access layer, which is specific to home tuition in Mumbai and specific to buildings like these. The name on the platform has to be the name at the security desk, so we confirm the identity document and tell the family exactly who to clear with the society. Tutors are told to treat a standing weekly entry as something arranged with the office, not assumed on the strength of being expected. This matters most on the evenings when you are delayed at Nariman Point and the only person home is your household help.

Your own checks are the ones that catch the rest. Ask which syllabus version your child is on and what the school's calendar says for the term; a tutor who has not asked has not prepared. Ask them to work through one question from a recent paper aloud and listen for whether they teach the reasoning or recite the answer. Ask what they will send you after each session, because a family paying for home classes every week is entitled to a written record of them. And be wary of any tutor who offers a guaranteed grade, quotes a pass percentage or claims to know how a particular school marks, because those claims describe a sales approach rather than a teaching one.

Checking continues after the booking. We ask parents for a short verdict at the four-week mark, and a tutor who cancels repeatedly, drifts from the agreed plan or writes the student's coursework instead of teaching it stops receiving matches. The replacement route is deliberately unceremonious: tell us what failed, get one or two alternatives for the same hour, and the outgoing tutor's notes travel across so your child is not starting their explanation again from the beginning.

  • Identity, qualification, board experience and references, all before shortlisting
  • Gate name confirmed against the identity document shown to security
  • Ask for one paper question worked aloud before you commit to a term
  • Be wary of a tutor who offers a guaranteed grade or a claimed pass rate
  • Four-week parent verdict, and a notes handover if we have to re-match

The home visit itself: gate, lift and the 7pm hour in Cuffe Parade

The lesson begins at the security desk, not at your door. On the Cuffe Parade reclamation most buildings log visitors, several want a resident to authorise entry, and some restrict the lift to card-holding residents after a certain hour. A weekly tutor therefore needs a standing arrangement: a named person, a fixed day, a fixed hour, cleared once with the society office so that nobody is making a phone call from the lobby at five past seven. Families in Maker Towers and Jolly Maker Apartments generally know their own protocol; the households that lose a session to it are usually the ones who have recently moved in.

Inside the flat, the room decides the quality of the hour. The best setup in these apartments is almost never the living room. It is a bedroom desk or a study with a door, a surface wide enough for a textbook, a past paper and two elbows, a light that does not throw a shadow across the page, and a plug for a laptop that will be used for about ten minutes and then closed. Put the student's phone in another room. A tutor can teach through a television in the background, but they will teach a worse lesson, and the student will remember less of it.

Now the hour. Seven in the evening is the most requested slot in this neighbourhood and the most contested, because every building here wants it and tutor supply inside the island is finite. A 6.30pm start is easier to secure and suits parents working at Nariman Point or Fort. A 7.30pm start sounds reasonable in September and is a problem in January, because a Year 11 student who has been at school since eight and then sat in traffic from Fort is not learning much at half past eight. If you have a choice, book earlier and keep the slot for the whole year rather than optimising it monthly.

A last piece of realism about weekday visits. Monsoon weeks will break a journey occasionally, a school event will collide with your slot, and somebody will be ill. Agree the rules once: how much notice cancels without charge, whether a missed session is made up on a weekend or converted to an online hour, and what happens if the tutor is the one who cannot come. An IGCSE private tutor Cuffe Parade families keep for two years is usually not the most impressive on paper; it is the one whose arrangements were clear enough to survive a bad fortnight.

  • Arrange a standing named entry with the society office, not visit by visit
  • Check whether the lift needs a resident card after a set evening hour
  • A door that closes beats a larger table in a room with a television
  • Book 6.30pm or 7pm rather than 7.30pm and hold it for the full year
  • Set the cancellation and make-up rules before the first missed session

What an IGCSE parent in Mumbai should expect by the end of term one

In the first four weeks of home classes, look for behaviour rather than marks. The student should know what the tutor will ask for, should have a book that is genuinely used between visits, and should be able to name the two things being rebuilt. A Year 10 student on this seafront who had abandoned her Chemistry calculations should by then be attempting them with the working set out, even if the answers are still wrong. If nothing has shifted in how the child talks about the subject after a month, the match is the problem, not the child, and that is the moment to raise it.

By the end of a term the measure is the work going in. Marks sometimes move and sometimes do not, because a student who was three topics behind spends the early weeks closing a gap rather than gaining ground, and a mock sat in the middle of that catching-up can still disappoint. What ought to be visible is quality: a coursework draft with a real plan behind it, a mathematics paper with legible working, a science answer that uses the command term it was given. That improvement is dependable in a way that a predicted grade jump never is.

Across a full exam cycle you learn whether the technique survives pressure, and this is where the limits deserve saying out loud. A home tutor can close content gaps, teach paper craft, rehearse an oral and build a revision routine that a teenager will actually follow. A tutor cannot sit the paper, cannot influence how a script is marked and cannot compress two years of missed foundations into six weeks. IB Gram does not guarantee grades and publishes no success rate, because the only figure that would matter is your child's and nobody has it yet.

Fees belong in this honest conversation too. What a tutor charges here is driven by board and tier, by how scarce the subject is at a high standard, by the travel their slot demands, by session length and frequency, and by whether two siblings share the hour. None of those are published as a price list because the combination changes the answer, and a cheaper tutor who cancels twice a month is more expensive than they appear. Ask for the duration, the exam-season rule and the cancellation policy, and compare those three answers.

  • Four weeks: used book, named targets, working shown even when wrong
  • One term: better submissions, with marks often trailing the real progress
  • One cycle: whether technique holds in a timed paper under pressure
  • No grade guarantees and no success rate, here or from any honest tutor
  • Fees follow tier, scarcity, travel, session length and shared siblings

Booking an IGCSE tutor in Cuffe Parade before the mock season

Getting started takes one message with four things in it: the school and board, the year group as the school writes it, the two subjects that are actually urgent, and the hour you can hold for a term. Add the building and your society's visitor rule and you have removed the usual week of delay. Within a few working days you will have three or four tutors who teach that board, work inside the island and have confirmed that exact hour, and you will speak to each of them before anything is booked.

Have the paperwork ready, because it shortens the diagnosis considerably. The last two marked pieces with the teacher's comments still attached, the most recent report, and the school's assessment calendar if it has been shared. A tutor reading a marked paper learns more in five minutes than they would from half an hour of description, and in Year 11 that time matters. If a coursework piece is already under way, send the task sheet and the criteria the school published with it.

Timing advice, bluntly: book before the pressure arrives, not during it. Demand in these buildings peaks in the internal-assessment fortnights and in the run-up to mocks, and that is exactly when the good evening slots are gone. A slot taken in a quiet month is cheaper to hold and still yours in January. A home tutor for all IB and IGCSE subjects Mumbai parents rate is rarely idle in the week you suddenly need them.

If you are still weighing up options, know that the search phrase changes nothing about the pool. Typing the best IGCSE tutor in Cuffe Parade, or IGCSE tutors near me in Cuffe Parade, reaches the same group of people already teaching inside South Mumbai. What changes the result is whether the hour is realistic, whether the board match is honest, and whether somebody tells you in week two rather than week ten that it is not working.

  • One message: school and board, year group, two urgent subjects, the hour
  • Attach the last two marked pieces and the current coursework task sheet
  • Include the building name and your society's visitor registration rule
  • Book in a quiet month; mock season is when evening slots disappear
  • Expect a diagnostic first visit and written notes the same evening
FAQs

Cuffe Parade tutoring — questions parents ask

Is Core or Extended the right IGCSE choice for my child?+

The school decides the entry tier, and it should decide it on timed evidence rather than on how confident a student feels. Extended and Higher papers reach a higher grade ceiling and carry extra content; Core and Foundation papers cap the grade but are a fairer test for a student who would otherwise lose most of a paper. A tutor's useful contribution is evidence: a few properly timed pieces that show whether the problem is content the student cannot reach or technique that collapses under a clock. Take that evidence to the subject teacher early in Year 10, not in the term the entries close.

Can a tutor come to Jolly Maker Apartments for an evening slot during mock season?+

Yes, and that is the busiest request of the year, which is exactly why the slot should be taken before mock season rather than during it. Tutors already working inside the island can hold a 6.30pm or 7pm visit reliably; a 7.30pm start is harder on both sides by January. Tell us the hour precisely rather than saying evening, and tell us whether your society needs the visitor registered in advance. If every island slot at your preferred hour is taken, we will say so rather than promising something that collapses in week two.

What does the society security desk need from a weekly home tutor?+

Usually a name, a phone number and a resident authorising the entry, with some buildings on this reclamation also restricting lift access after a certain hour. The arrangement that works for weekly home tuition is a standing entry cleared once with the society office: named person, fixed day, fixed time. We confirm the tutor's name as it appears on their identity document so the desk and your instruction match. Tell us at the start whether household help can authorise entry when you are held up at work, because that single detail prevents most lobby phone calls.

What do IGCSE tuition fees in Cuffe Parade depend on?+

Five things, and no honest page can print a number. Board and tier come first, since a Higher or Extended paper demands more preparation than a Core one. Subject scarcity at a strong standard is the biggest single mover, and the sciences and mathematics are scarcer here than the humanities. Travel matters in this locality specifically, because a tutor walking from Colaba absorbs almost nothing while one crossing from Worli gives up an evening. Session length and frequency change the per-hour figure, and two siblings sharing a visit lowers the cost per child. We will tell you the current range for your exact combination.

When should Year 10 coursework support start?+

Before the draft exists, which is earlier than most families think. The marks on a coursework piece are won in the planning stage: choosing a workable question or task, deciding what evidence will be gathered, and reading the criteria the school published before writing anything. A tutor brought in to polish a finished draft can do very little that is both useful and honest, since rewriting a student's work breaches the academic honesty rules every school here enforces. Start when the task sheet is handed out, use two or three sessions on the plan, then let the student write.

My child is in Year 9 and choosing subjects. Can a tutor help with that?+

A tutor can help with the evidence rather than the decision. What parents usually need in Year 9 is an honest read on whether a subject the child enjoys is one they can carry at pace for two years, and whether a combination creates three coursework deadlines in the same month. A tutor who has taken Year 11 students through a full series can look at the proposed set and say which part will hurt and when. The choice itself belongs with the student, the subject teachers and the school's own guidance, which sees the full record.

Do you cover Pearson Edexcel IGCSE as well as Cambridge?+

Yes, and we treat them as different requests. Cambridge International Education and Pearson Edexcel differ in paper structure, in how some subjects handle practical or coursework components, and in the tier labels used. A tutor fluent in one can usually adapt, but the first year of a course is not the time to find out, so we match on the board your school actually enters students for. Tell us which it is in your first message, and if the school runs different boards in different subjects, say that too; it is common and it changes the shortlist.

How much notice do you need, and can a tutor travel from Fort or Colaba?+

Three working days is typical for a standard subject and longer for a scarce one at a high tier. Tutors travelling from Colaba, Fort, Nariman Point or the Churchgate side can hold an early evening slot here reliably, which is why the pool is drawn from the island first. South Mumbai is short in distance and slow in practice, so a tutor from the suburbs who agrees in September often cannot sustain it by November. In exam season, assume availability is tighter and ask us for a realistic start date rather than the earliest possible one.

What if my child needs help in four subjects at once?+

Then the first job is triage, not four tutors. Four simultaneous weak subjects usually means something upstream has gone wrong: attendance, a term of missed foundations, or a timetable the student cannot organise. We would normally start with the two that carry the nearest deadlines or the most content, run those properly for a term, and reassess. One tutor covering two adjacent subjects is often better than two specialists, because they can see where the time is going. Spreading a week thin across four subjects produces four slightly-less-bad grades and an exhausted teenager.

Can sessions continue online during study leave in Mumbai?+

Yes, and study leave is one of the periods where online genuinely works better. Frequency matters more than presence once revision starts, so three short online sessions in a week can beat one long visit: a past paper walked through on a shared screen, a set of timed questions marked and returned, a half-hour clinic on the topics that keep failing. Many families here switch to online for study leave and heavy monsoon weeks, then resume the home visit afterwards. Agree the switch in advance so it is a plan rather than a scramble.

How do I know the tutor actually knows the IGCSE paper?+

Ask them to talk through one question from your child's most recent paper, out loud, including where marks are typically dropped. Somebody who has taught the course will discuss method marks, command terms and the way a particular component is structured without reaching for notes. Ask what their last cohort found hardest and what they changed as a result. Then ask what they will not teach, because a tutor willing to name their limits is more reliable than one who claims every subject. A refusal to promise a specific grade is a good sign, not a weak one.
