IB Tutors Near Me in Fort, Mumbai

Searching for an IB tutor near me in Fort is really a question about reliability, not distance. The tutor who lives a few streets away keeps a weekly slot for a whole term; the one who looks better on paper and drives in from the suburbs quietly stops coming. This page explains what proximity buys, and where home tuition is worth travelling for.

Matching radius set by evening travel time, not by map distance
Island-based tutors for weekly slots, wider pool for scarce subjects
Identity, degree and subject-level claims checked before any visit
A written diagnosis after session one, not a syllabus plan

What a search for an IB tutor near me in Fort should actually return

It should return three or four names, not three hundred, and each one should come with the distance they travel and the evenings they hold. Most search results do the opposite: a long national list, no indication of who can physically be at your door on a Tuesday, and a contact form. The useful shortlist for a Fort address is short by definition, because the number of people who teach Higher Level (HL) sciences or Diploma Programme (DP) mathematics and can be in the heritage precinct by 7pm on a weekday is a small number. Our job is to find those people rather than to show you everybody, and a request for an IB home tutor near me in Fort gets a shortlist built that way.

The process runs in a fixed order and the order matters. 1. We establish the programme and year exactly: Primary Years Programme (PYP) grade, Middle Years Programme (MYP) year, or DP1 versus DP2, with the examination session attached. 2. We establish the subject and, for DP, whether it is Higher Level or Standard Level (SL), because those need different people more often than parents expect. 3. We filter the tutor pool by evening travel time to your address rather than by kilometres, which in South Mumbai are not the same measurement. 4. We send two or three names with their travel origin and open slots. 5. You speak to them before anything is booked, and the first paid session is diagnostic.

Step three is where a near-me search gets interesting. A tutor whose own flat is within walking distance of Fort can take a 6pm slot and still be home for dinner, which means she will protect that slot when her week gets busy. A tutor in Bandra looking at an eight-kilometre journey on a map thinks it is twenty minutes, agrees to 6pm, and then spends six weeks arriving at 6.25 before somebody renegotiates. The second tutor may be the better teacher. She is not the better arrangement, and for a MYP student who needs weekly consistency more than brilliance, the arrangement is what produces the result.

There is one case where we deliberately break the proximity rule, and it is worth knowing in advance. If your child needs a genuinely scarce subject, insisting on somebody close means accepting a weaker subject fit, and that is the wrong trade. In those cases we go wider and usually online. For everything commonly taught, though, near is better, and a parent who searches IB tutors near me Fort and then hires somebody from the Western Suburbs on the strength of a longer biography has usually optimised the wrong variable. For a common subject the nearer home tutor wins on reliability alone.

  • A useful shortlist is three or four names, with travel origin attached
  • Programme, year and Higher or Standard Level fixed before searching
  • Pool filtered by evening travel time, not by map kilometres
  • Close tutors protect their slots when their week gets busy
  • Proximity gets overruled only for genuinely scarce subjects

Which IB year is your child in, and what does that change?

A near-me search cannot answer this and it changes who you should hire. The Primary Years Programme runs to roughly Grade 5 and needs a primary-trained adult. The Middle Years Programme covers the middle grades and reports against published criteria. The Diploma Programme covers the last two years and ends in external papers. Three different kinds of tutor, and only one of them is right for your child.

For a PYP child, proximity is almost the whole decision. A seven-year-old does not need the most qualified person available; she needs the same adult at the same table twice a week, building reading stamina or number fluency without the session becoming a test. A tutor who lives ten minutes away will keep that rhythm for a year. One travelling across the island will not, and the rhythm is the intervention. For PYP families an IB home tutor near me in Fort is almost always the better buy than a more decorated tutor forty minutes away. Parents who hire an impressive DP specialist for a PYP child tend to return within a month wondering why nothing has shifted.

For MYP, the thing to establish before you look at anybody's distance is which criterion is actually losing credit. A Year 3 student reported as weak in English may be strong on analysing a text and losing most of her available credit on the criterion that asks her to produce organised written work to a brief. Those are different problems and they need different work. A tutor who reads the criterion descriptors with you in session one, and shows you the strand rather than the overall figure, has already given you something the report did not. Year 5 brings the personal project, which needs process discipline rather than subject content.

For DP, the year matters more than almost anything else. A DP1 student who starts in the first term has room to repair notation, laboratory writing or essay structure before those habits are load-bearing. A DP2 student arriving in the second half is in triage, and an honest tutor will name the two components that can still move and say plainly that the others cannot. This page does not cover the International General Certificate of Secondary Education or Pearson Edexcel courses; a sibling page owns that search, and the assessment vocabulary is different enough that mixing them produces bad advice.

  • PYP: the same adult at the same table beats the better credential
  • MYP: identify the losing criterion before comparing tutors
  • MYP Year 5 personal project needs process support, not content
  • DP1: time to repair notation, lab writing and essay structure
  • DP2 arriving late: name the two components that can still move

Subject by subject: where IB students in Fort lose credit

The pattern across the island families we work with is consistent enough to predict. In the sciences, students understand the practical and lose credit on the write-up, specifically on evaluating method and handling uncertainty rather than on the chemistry or physics itself. In mathematics, the loss is concentrated in the exploration and in extended structured questions where method is not written down, so an arithmetic slip takes the whole answer with it. In Language A, the loss is in the analytical paragraph: the student notices the right thing about the text and then does not explain why it matters.

Subject choice across the Diploma Programme sits behind a surprising number of near-me enquiries, and distance is irrelevant to it. The Higher Level and Standard Level decision is not about ambition, it is about where a student's finite hours produce the most credit. A child spending nine hours a week on an HL subject she chose because a university page mentioned it, while two others slide, has a timetable problem. A tutor's most useful early contribution is a written record of where the hours are actually going, which the parent can take to the DP coordinator while a change is still procedurally possible. Early in the first term there is usually room; later there is not.

Parents frequently want all IB and IGCSE subjects from one tutor in Fort, and the honest answer is that the person does not exist. Nobody teaches HL Mathematics, HL Biology and literary analysis to a standard worth paying for. What works is a narrow brief: identify the one subject costing the most recoverable credit, place a specialist on it, and leave the rest alone for a term. Families who spread four subjects across four evenings usually find the child too tired to benefit from any of them, which is a scheduling failure dressed up as an academic one. One subject of IB home tuition in Fort, done properly, beats four done thinly.

For the actual structure of any course, read the subject guide your child's school teaches from, or ask the coordinator. The International Baccalaureate revises guides and assessment arrangements on its own cycle, so component names and arrangements that were correct for an older sibling may not hold for the session your child sits. A tutor who quotes a weighting from memory instead of checking the current guide has told you how recently they taught it. We would rather place a tutor who says she needs to check than one who is confidently out of date.

  • Sciences: credit lost in evaluation and uncertainty, not in the lab
  • Mathematics: unwritten method turns a slip into a zero
  • Language A: the analytical paragraph stops before the reason
  • One subject, one specialist, one term beats four evenings
  • Check the current subject guide, not a tutor's recollection

How near is near enough in South Mumbai?

Measure it in evening minutes, not kilometres, and the answer for Fort is roughly this: a tutor who can be at your door inside twenty-five minutes at 6.30pm will keep the slot, and one who needs fifty will not keep it past the first busy month. Fort sits in the heritage precinct with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus and Churchgate as its stations, so the pool inside that radius is drawn from the island. The Western Line brings tutors from Grant Road and Mumbai Central, the Harbour Line from Dockyard Road and Sewri, Metro Line 3 along the Cuffe Parade to Bandra Kurla Complex alignment has pulled in tutors who would once have refused a South Mumbai evening, and the Coastal Road has shortened the western approach.

The arithmetic that catches people out is that South Mumbai is short in distance and slow in practice. A tutor crossing from Worli to Colaba covers about eight kilometres and can still lose most of an hour to the Peddar Road and Haji Ali signals at peak. A parent looking at a map concludes that half the city is nearby. At 6.45pm on a weekday it is not, which is why we match within the island rather than bringing a tutor down from the Western or Central Suburbs for a single hour. The tutors who sustain a Fort diary are the ones already working in Churchgate, Colaba and Mazgaon, and they are the people we put forward for an IB home tutor near me in Fort request.

Treat those four as one area, because the tutors do. A tutor with a Monday in Colaba, a Wednesday in Fort and a Friday in Churchgate has a week worth keeping. A tutor with one isolated hour in Fort has an hour she will drop when something better lands, and she will be apologetic about it. This is also why asking for a weekend slot sometimes gets you a better tutor than a weekday one: on a Saturday morning the travel penalty across the island collapses, and a tutor who cannot reach you at 6pm on Tuesday can reach you easily at 10am on Saturday.

Mazgaon runs on different arithmetic from the rest. The Harbour Line and the Eastern Freeway bring a tutor down from the north faster than the map suggests, and the same route works in reverse, so a Fort tutor can hold a Mazgaon slot. Across the city the pattern repeats: an IB tutor Mumbai families keep for a full year is almost always the one with the shortest journey, whether that is Powai to Chandivali off JVLR or Thane station to Pokhran Road. Distance is not a vanity metric here, it is the main predictor of whether the arrangement is still alive in March.

  • Twenty-five evening minutes is the practical radius for Fort
  • Worli to Colaba: eight kilometres, often most of an hour at peak
  • Fort, Churchgate, Colaba and Mazgaon work as a single area
  • Saturday mornings widen the pool because travel collapses
  • Mazgaon connects north via the Harbour Line and Eastern Freeway

The Fort school calendar, and when the nearest tutor is already booked

The Cathedral and John Connon School sits in Fort, and its IB Diploma Programme students make up most of the tutoring demand in these streets. For a near-me search that produces a specific and slightly awkward consequence: the nearest tutors are the most contested tutors. When that school's internal deadlines cluster, every family within a short walk wants the same subject specialist in the same fortnight, and the closest person with the right subject is booked before you have finished reading her profile. Elsewhere in Mumbai the demand is spread across several schools with staggered calendars and there is usually somebody free.

So in Fort, proximity and timing trade against each other. A family enquiring in the quiet weeks early in the academic year gets both: a close tutor on a good evening. A family enquiring during the deadline cluster gets one or the other, and the choice is real. Our advice is usually to take the slightly further tutor on the right evening rather than the nearest tutor on an evening that does not suit the household, because a session at an impossible time gets cancelled more often than one that involves a longer drive for somebody else. An IB home tutor near me in Fort who cannot make your evening is not actually near you.

The surrounding island provides some relief. B.D. Somani International School at Cuffe Parade and Bombay International School at Babulnath pull their own cohorts, and because their calendars do not align exactly with Fort's, the South Mumbai pool is not entirely synchronised. A tutor whose Tuesday is taken by a Cuffe Parade family may have a Thursday free. This is the practical reason we hold a wider island list rather than a Fort-only one, and why the first reply to a near-me enquiry sometimes includes somebody from fifteen minutes further out.

School names here are local context only. IB Gram is an independent platform and is not affiliated with the Cathedral and John Connon School, with B.D. Somani International School, or with any other school on this page, and no tutor should suggest otherwise. If somebody implies they know how a particular school marks internally, or offers to approach a teacher on your behalf, decline and move on. Knowing which fortnights are brutal is legitimate local knowledge. Claiming access to the people who set them is not, and it is the most common form of overreach we see in this market.

  • The nearest tutors are the most contested tutors in Fort
  • In deadline weeks you choose between proximity and the right evening
  • An impossible slot gets cancelled more often than a longer drive
  • Cuffe Parade and Babulnath calendars desynchronise the island pool
  • Claimed access to a school's marking is a reason to decline

Home tuition, online or both for a Fort family?

If you have searched for somebody nearby, you almost certainly want them in the room, and for most requests that is the right instinct. An IB home tutor near me in Fort can see what a camera cannot: that the student is copying worked examples without reading them, that her notes have no structure, that she stops at unfamiliar rather than at difficult. Those habits are the actual problem in most MYP and DP cases. Home classes also return the travel time a coaching centre would take out of a school evening, which in this part of Mumbai is worth more than the hourly difference.

Online earns its place in two situations and it is worth being unsentimental about them. A scarce subject is the first: Theory of Knowledge (TOK) essay reading, a less commonly offered language, an Extended Essay (EE) supervisor-literate reader. Here, insisting on a neighbour means accepting a weaker specialist, and an IB online tutor in Fort working from another city is the better outcome. The second is frequency. A DP2 student in the final stretch gets more from three short screen shares a week on an internal assessment (IA) draft than from one long visit, and no travelling tutor can come three times.

Hybrid is where near-me families usually settle by the second term, and planning it beats drifting into it. One in-person hour carries the teaching and the diagnosis; one or two short online contacts carry marked work and the question that cannot wait until next week. It also absorbs the failures that kill in-person-only arrangements: a monsoon evening when the island is standing still, a school day that overruns, an examination fortnight when five short contacts beat two long ones. Families who write the pattern down at the start lose noticeably fewer sessions.

The honest limits are worth stating. Online with a distractible twelve-year-old and nobody within earshot is money spent on supervision. In-person needs a workable space, and in older Fort buildings that is a decision to make before the first session rather than at 7pm on a Tuesday. And an hour a week against no independent practice moves very little in either mode. Anyone hiring an IB private tutor Fort neighbours recommended should ask what the student is expected to do between sessions, because that is where most of the progress is actually produced.

  • In person first: unreadable habits are visible at the table
  • Online for TOK reading, rare languages and EE support
  • Online for frequency: three short DP2 contacts beat one long visit
  • Hybrid absorbs monsoon evenings and examination fortnights
  • Ask what the student must do between sessions, in either mode

What does proximity not tell you about a tutor?

It tells you nothing about whether she can teach. That sounds obvious and yet a near-me search invites exactly that error, because the nearest name feels like the safe name. Every tutor on our list has had their identity confirmed against a government photo document, their degree verified with the awarding institution, and their subject and level claims tested in conversation with somebody who has taught the course. A tutor claiming HL Chemistry is asked how she would handle a student whose write-up loses credit on uncertainty rather than method, and a vague reply ends the application. Teaching references are taken where a tutor has worked in a school.

What verification cannot establish is fit, and fit decides whether this lasts. So half the checking is yours, and it costs one conversation before booking and one honest look after session two. Ask which programme and year she last taught this subject in, and when. Ask what the first session will consist of, and treat a syllabus plan as a warning rather than an answer. Ask how she will report back and how often. Ask what she will do if your child's school sequences topics differently from the way she is used to teaching them.

Then ask the question that sorts the good from the merely qualified: what would you tell me if, after a month, you thought the problem was not the subject at all, but sleep, screen time, or a co-curricular load nobody could sustain? The tutors worth keeping answer without pausing, because they have had to say it to a parent before and they know how it lands. The ones who say that is not really my area are telling you they will take your money for a year and report that sessions are going well.

Two answers end the conversation regardless of distance. Be wary of a tutor who offers a guaranteed grade, because somebody saying that either misunderstands the assessment or is relying on you to. And any claim of a relationship with a named school, access to internal marking, or influence over a predicted grade is disqualifying. A parent hiring the best IB tutor in Fort on the strength of claims like those is hiring on confidence rather than evidence, and confidence is the one thing an unqualified tutor never runs short of. Distance is checkable; a claim like that is not, which is why we verify before anybody is listed for home tuition at all.

  • The nearest name is not automatically the safe name
  • Identity, degree and subject claims checked before listing
  • Ask when and where she last taught this subject at this level
  • Ask what she would say if the problem were not academic
  • Grade promises and claimed school access are disqualifying

The travel-time radius that decides whether a weekly slot survives

Every tutoring arrangement has a hidden cost nobody prices: the tutor's own evening. A teaching hour that requires fifty minutes each way is a two-and-a-half-hour commitment, and tutors do not sustain many of those. This is the mechanism behind almost every failed match we see in South Mumbai. The tutor does not announce that the journey has become unworkable. She reschedules once, then arrives late, then asks to move the day, then suggests going online, and by the time the family realises what has happened the term is half gone. Proximity is not a convenience, it is the insurance policy on the schedule, and it is the main reason we keep home classes inside the island.

The second thing that varies with distance is the quality of the hour itself. A tutor who arrives having spent fifty minutes in traffic teaches a measurably worse lesson than the same tutor who walked ten minutes, particularly in the last twenty minutes of a session. Parents notice this as the tutor seeming tired or the session drifting, and they usually attribute it to the child. For a 7pm start after a full teaching day, the journey is the variable most likely to determine whether the last twenty minutes are useful.

What IB tuition fees in Fort depend on follows directly, and it is better to understand the drivers than to chase a number. Programme level comes first, because Higher Level work takes more preparation per hour and fewer people can teach it. Subject scarcity second: a common science against a rare language or an Extended Essay reader is a genuinely different market. Travel third, and in South Mumbai that is not a rounding error for the reasons above. Then session length and frequency. Then timing, in the sense that enquiring during a deadline cluster narrows choice rather than moving rates. Ask any tutor to separate teaching rate from travel expectation, and ask whether a Saturday differs from a weekday.

The practical conclusion is a rule of thumb we give most Fort families. For a commonly taught subject, take the nearest competent specialist who can hold your evening, and spend the saved money on a second subject later if you need it. For a scarce subject, go wider and go online rather than compromising on who teaches it. And for any arrangement, book four sessions rather than a term, read the written diagnosis, then decide. A home tutor for all IB and IGCSE subjects Mumbai parents sometimes ask for would solve the logistics and fail the teaching, which is the wrong trade in both directions.

  • A fifty-minute journey makes one teaching hour a 150-minute commitment
  • Failed matches degrade gradually: reschedule, late, move day, go online
  • A tired arrival shows up in the last twenty minutes of the session
  • Fees track level, scarcity, travel, session length and timing
  • Nearest competent specialist for common subjects; wider for rare ones

What four weeks of home classes should show you in Mumbai

Three things, none of them a grade. Your child can say what she is working on without being asked twice. The tutor can state the underlying problem in a single sentence, and it is more specific than the report was. And the question type she used to skip is now being attempted, even badly. In a science that might be the evaluation section she left blank; in mathematics, the structured multi-mark question she jumped over. Attempting it badly is the step before doing it well, and it is the honest four-week signal. If a tutor cannot name the problem after a month, the match is wrong and politeness is expensive. Four weeks of home tutoring should produce a sentence, not a reassurance.

At one term the marked work should look different in a way you can see without expertise. Method written down where it used to be absent. A conclusion that answers the question rather than restating the data. An exploration with a question narrow enough to finish. Reported grades may lag well behind this, and in a criterion-referenced system that lag is normal rather than a sign of failure. The marked work is the better evidence, which is why we ask tutors to send it rather than to describe it.

At one examination cycle you can finally judge the arrangement, and that judgement has to include what did not move. IB Gram does not guarantee grades, and no tutor on our list should offer a guaranteed grade, because the outcome rests on the student's own work over two years, on how the school taught the course, and on the session she sits. What we answer for is the match, the verification behind it, and how fast we replace a tutor who is not working. We also say when to hire nobody. A student whose reports are weak in every subject at once usually has a sleep, attendance or load problem, and a subject tutor is the wrong purchase.

When a match is wrong, say it at week two or three in one or two concrete sentences. A tutor who knows the subject but cannot hold a quiet thirteen-year-old is a different problem from one who arrives unprepared, and we shortlist differently for each. We take her off the slot, protect the slot where we can, and give the replacement the earlier written diagnosis so nothing is paid for twice. Changing one tutor inside a two-year engagement is an ordinary event. The families who struggle are the ones who waited until week eight because they did not want an awkward message.

  • Four weeks: skipped question types attempted, problem named precisely
  • One term: method written down, conclusions that answer the question
  • Grade lag in a criterion-referenced system is normal, not failure
  • Weak in every subject at once is not a tutoring problem
  • Raise a bad match at week two, not week eight

Finding an IB home tutor near me in Fort, Mumbai

Send three things and the first reply is useful. The most recent school report in full rather than summarised. One marked piece of work with the teacher's comments still on it, ideally the one that prompted the search. And the evening windows that genuinely work in your household, with a note on whether an adult is normally home and whether a weekend morning is possible. The weekend question matters more than parents expect, because it widens the pool considerably when weekday travel is the binding constraint. Saturday home classes in Fort are often easier to fill than a Tuesday at 6pm.

The first session is deliberately modest. A tutor arriving for IB home tuition in Fort spends the opening stretch on the marked work, asking the student to talk through her reasoning rather than correcting her, because the distance between what she can explain and what she wrote down is the diagnosis. Then she tests one or two foundations underneath the current topic, since the real gap is frequently a year older than the chapter that triggered the enquiry. Little new content is taught. You get a written note: what was found, what the next four sessions should do, and anything the tutor thinks is not an academic problem.

Settle the logistics before anyone arrives, because these are the things that quietly waste paid time. Agree a room with a table, a socket and a door that closes, which in older buildings in the Fort heritage precinct may mean rearranging something. Tell the tutor what your building requires of visitors so a standing weekly entry is registered once rather than negotiated weekly. Agree notice on both sides for a missed session. And agree a reporting rhythm, which for most island families is a short written note after every second session that a parent actually reads.

After that, keep it small and review it out loud. One tutor for the subject genuinely costing credit, a second only if a second subject genuinely needs one, a standing slot that survives the school calendar, and a four-week conversation about whether this is still the right shape. If you want an IB tutor near me in Fort who is still turning up in March, the two things that predict it are a short journey and an honest first diagnosis. That is the whole case for an IB home tutor near me in Fort rather than the most impressive name on a citywide list. Send the report, the marked task and your evenings, and we will tell you whether we have that person.

  • Send the report, one marked task and your realistic evenings
  • Say whether a weekend morning works; it widens the pool
  • Session one is a diagnosis and ends in a written note
  • Agree room, visitor entry and missed-session notice upfront
  • One subject, one slot, one four-week review held out loud
FAQs

Fort tutoring — questions parents ask

How far will a tutor travel to Fort for a weekday evening slot?+

In practice, about twenty-five minutes at peak, which for Fort means the island rather than a radius on a map. Tutors based in or near Churchgate, Colaba and Mazgaon hold weekday evenings here through the year. A tutor facing fifty minutes each way is making a two-and-a-half-hour commitment for one teaching hour, and those arrangements degrade: a reschedule, then a late arrival, then a request to move the day. Ask where a tutor travels from before agreeing a time, and if the answer is beyond the island, ask what happens on a monsoon evening.

Is a nearby tutor better than a stronger tutor who lives further away?+

For a commonly taught subject, usually yes, and that surprises parents. Consistency produces more than brilliance does over a term, and the nearer tutor is the one who protects her slot when her week gets crowded. The exception is a scarce subject: for Theory of Knowledge essay reading, a rare language, or Extended Essay support, the specialist matters more than the journey, and the right answer is usually to take the better tutor online. So the rule is proximity for common subjects, specialism for rare ones, and never both compromises at once.

Can we start with home classes and move online later?+

Yes, and that is the pattern most of our Fort families end up with. Starting in person lets the tutor see how your child works, which is the part a camera hides, and it builds enough rapport that online sessions are productive rather than silent. From the second term, many families keep one in-person hour for teaching and add one or two short online contacts for marked work and quick questions. Agree the pattern in writing rather than drifting into it, because the drift version tends to become all online and then to quietly stop.

Our building issues visitor gate passes. How does a weekly tutor get in?+

Register her once for a standing weekly slot and it takes a minute each week thereafter. Tell the tutor in the first conversation what your building needs, which in Fort is typically a name, a photo identity document and confirmation from the flat, and arrange any written authorisation from the owner before the first session rather than on the evening. The version of this that wastes money is the family who assumes it will sort itself out, and then loses ten minutes of a paid hour at the desk every single week.

Why do two tutors quote differently for the same IB subject?+

Because the hour is not the same hour. Higher Level work takes more preparation than Standard Level support, a scarce subject has a smaller supply of people who can teach it, and travel time is priced in whether or not anybody itemises it. A tutor walking over from Churchgate and one driving down from Worli through the Peddar Road signals are selling very different amounts of their own evening. Ask each to separate teaching rate from travel expectation, and ask whether a Saturday morning differs from a weekday evening, then compare on that basis.

My child is in DP1 and the first report was weak. Where do we start?+

With one subject, not all of them. Ask the tutor to look at the marked work from the two weakest subjects and tell you which one has the most recoverable credit, then start there for four sessions. DP1 is the year with room to repair underlying habits, so time spent on notation, laboratory writing or essay structure now pays across both years. Spreading four tutors across four evenings in DP1 produces a tired student and four shallow engagements, which is the most common expensive mistake we see at this stage.

Do you have tutors for the Middle Years Programme as well as the Diploma Programme?+

Yes, and we treat them as separate pools rather than assuming one tutor covers both. Middle Years Programme work is criterion-assessed and needs somebody who can read the descriptors with a parent and identify which strand is losing credit. Diploma Programme work is examination-facing and needs paper technique and internal assessment experience. Some tutors do both genuinely well; many do one well and the other approximately. When you enquire, tell us the exact year and we will filter on the programme rather than on the subject name alone.

What actually happens in the first session?+

Less teaching than you expect, and that is deliberate. The tutor spends the first part on marked work, asking your child to talk through what she was thinking on the questions she got wrong, because the gap between her reasoning and her writing is usually the whole diagnosis. Then she tests one or two foundations below the current topic, since the real gap is often a year older than the chapter. Afterwards you receive a written note on what was found, a proposal for four sessions, and anything she thinks is not a tutoring problem.

We tried a coaching centre in South Mumbai. Why would this be different?+

The main difference is that a tutor at your table teaches one student and adjusts in real time, while a centre teaches a group at the pace of the group. For a student who is behind on a specific skill, the group pace is the problem rather than the solution. The second difference is travel: a centre takes an extra forty minutes out of a school evening in this part of Mumbai. The honest caveat is that individual tutoring costs more per hour, so it is worth being narrow about which subject actually needs it.

What if no nearby tutor teaches my child's subject?+

Then we widen the search rather than send you a near match, and we usually recommend going online for that subject. The subjects where this happens are predictable: less commonly offered languages, some Higher Level options, Theory of Knowledge essay reading and Extended Essay support. Accepting a tutor who has not taught the subject at that level because she lives close by is the one compromise we will not recommend. We would rather tell you plainly that the island pool does not have the person and show you the wider option.

How quickly can a tutor start in Fort?+

Usually within a week if you send the report and a marked task with your first message, and longer if the enquiry arrives during a deadline cluster when the nearest specialists are already committed. The binding constraint is rarely our side of it; it is whether a tutor with the right subject and level has the evening you need. Flexibility on the day of the week, or willingness to take a weekend morning, often converts a three-week wait into a few days without any compromise on who teaches your child.

Find your Fort tutor

Send the most recent school report in full, one marked piece of work with the teacher's comments on it, and the evening windows that genuinely work at home, including whether a weekend morning is possible.
