IB Online Tutor in Mumbai

An IB online tutor in Mumbai is only as good as what that tutor can actually see. This page is about the craft of the session itself: the second camera pointed at the page, live annotation of an Internal Assessment (IA) draft, and when home tuition at your own flat is the better call instead.

Tutors matched by component, not by subject label alone
A second camera on the page, so working is seen not guessed
Home tuition and hybrid weeks offered wherever travel actually works
Identity and qualifications checked before any Mumbai family is introduced

How does IB Gram match an IB online tutor in Mumbai to your child?

We match on the component, not the subject label. A request for Higher Level (HL) Chemistry help is really three or four different jobs: a student who cannot push electrons through an organic mechanism needs a different tutor from one whose Internal Assessment (IA) methodology paragraph claims a control the raw data never records. So the first thing we ask for is the paper, the criterion and the deadline.

The second thing we ask about is the desk, which sounds trivial and decides the match. If the work is pen and paper heavy, which covers Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and most of IGCSE Mathematics, the tutor has to be able to watch the student's hand move. That means a phone clamped over the page as a second camera, or a document camera, and a tutor who insists on it rather than merely tolerating it. A tutor working from a photograph of a finished answer is guessing at where the error was, and the error is almost never in the final line. For discussion subjects such as Theory of Knowledge (TOK), History or Economics essays, one camera and a shared document is enough, and pushing a family to buy hardware they do not need is poor advice.

We then run the shortlist past the calendar, because availability is not a detail. A tutor with two free weekday evening slots in October is more useful to a Diploma Programme (DP) student carrying three IA drafts than a tutor with one slot at 9pm on a Sunday. Across all IB and IGCSE subjects and all IB and IGCSE Years 1-12 bands the tutor in Mumbai we put in front of you has taught the component you named and can say what the published criteria reward in it.

The process has no sales call in it.

  • 1. Send the subject, level, board, the component in front of you and its deadline.
  • 2. We shortlist tutors who have taught that component, not only that subject.
  • 3. A short first session on your own material, camera on the page, nothing rehearsed.
  • 4. You tell us what you saw; we confirm the slot or re-shortlist without argument.
  • 5. Tutor and student agree the between-session work and how it comes back.

Which IB and IGCSE programmes teach well over a screen in Mumbai

The Primary Years Programme (PYP) is the weakest fit and we say so before anyone pays for a session. A six year old learning letter formation or number bonds needs an adult within arm's reach, and a screen quietly turns a parent into a technician for fifty minutes. Upper PYP reading comprehension and inquiry projects can work online if an adult sits in for the first ten minutes, but online is not the honest lead for early years anywhere in Mumbai.

The Middle Years Programme (MYP) sits in the middle. MYP 1 to 3 students often need a person at the table, especially when the problem is attention rather than content. By MYP 4 and 5 the work becomes criterion driven, Criterion A to D in each subject group, and criteria are text. A tutor can put the MYP Mathematics Criterion C descriptors on a shared screen beside the student's own investigation and show, line by line, which sentence is description and which is justification. The MYP Personal Project supervises well online, because supervision is mostly conversation plus a document.

The Diploma Programme is where a screen earns its place. Higher Level and Standard Level (SL) choices, the Extended Essay (EE), TOK and the IA in every subject are all document work, and document work is what a screen handles cleanly. Past paper marking, mark scheme walkthroughs and essay structure survive the format intact.

IGCSE under Cambridge International Education or Pearson Edexcel brings its own fork: the Core and Extended decision in Mathematics and the tiering in the sciences. That conversation deserves a dedicated session before the school's option forms close, because a student pushed into Extended Mathematics for a university path nobody has checked yet spends two years uncomfortable.

  • PYP: home tuition first, since a screen needs an adult in the room anyway
  • MYP 4 and 5: criterion descriptors on a shared screen beside the student's draft
  • DP: IA drafts, EE supervision, TOK essay structure, past paper marking
  • IGCSE: Core versus Extended Mathematics settled before option forms close
  • Language ab initio and Language B: speaking practice loses little over a call

Subject by subject: what the tutor has to be able to see

Subject choice across both boards, the HL and SL split and the Core or Extended tier each carry their own internal assessment, and each of those assessments has a different camera requirement. We cover all IB and IGCSE subjects and every tutor in Mumbai on a shortlist has taught the component you name. Mathematics is the clearest case. In HL Analysis and Approaches the mistake usually arrives by line three, a sign lost inside a chain rule derivative or a bound dropped from a definite integral, and the final answer tells the tutor nothing about which it was. A tutor who can see the pen stops the student mid-line; a tutor who cannot is reverse engineering.

Physics splits the same way. A tutor watching a free body diagram being drawn corrects the missing normal force in four seconds, while a tutor reading the finished numerical answer spends ten minutes discovering it was never there. Chemistry needs arrows, so a mechanism has to be drawn where the tutor can watch it form. Biology is kinder: most of the trouble sits in the data table, the uncertainty column and the statement of the controlled variable, all of which scan cleanly to a PDF and annotate well.

The text subjects need no hardware beyond a screen share. English A Language and Literature Paper 1 is an unseen extract and the session is annotation: tutor and student mark up the same passage live, one colour for the writer's choices and another for the effect being claimed, and the gap between those two columns is the entire lesson. History Paper 1 source work follows the same shape, origin and purpose before content and value. Economics wants the diagram drawn first and the evaluation paragraph written second, in that order, and a screen enforces the order more easily than a kitchen table does.

Oral components are the pleasant surprise. Language B and ab initio individual orals, and the DP English individual oral, rehearse well over a call, because the format is already a conversation about a stimulus sitting on a page.

  • HL Mathematics: the error is in line three, not the final answer
  • Physics: the free body diagram watched as it is drawn, not after
  • Chemistry: mechanism arrows need a page the tutor can actually see
  • Biology and Environmental Systems: data tables and uncertainty columns annotate well as PDFs
  • English A and History: live annotation of the same passage or source
  • Orals: stimulus on screen, conversation essentially unchanged

Mumbai zone by zone, and where online is the honest lead

In South Mumbai, families in Colaba, Cuffe Parade, Walkeshwar, Napean Sea Road and Peddar Road sit close together on the map and far apart in the evening. Eight kilometres from Worli to Colaba can take forty minutes once the Haji Ali and Peddar Road signals load, so an IB home tutor in Mumbai's island city is matched within the island rather than brought down the Western Line or Metro Line 3. Where the subject is scarce, IB online classes in Mumbai are the honest lead, and we will say so rather than stretch a tutor across the city twice a week.

The Western Suburbs run north to south along the Western Express Highway, the Western Line and Link Road, from Bandra and Khar West through Santacruz West, Juhu and Andheri West up to Goregaon East, Malad, Kandivali, Borivali and Dahisar. Matching along the line works; matching across it does not. Metro Lines 2A and 7 have changed the Dahisar to Andheri run and Metro Line 1 makes Andheri to Powai possible, but a 7pm home slot booked with a tutor two suburbs south still becomes a 7:40 start in July.

The Central Suburbs hang off the Central Line and the Eastern Express Highway, with Powai and Chandivali reached by road along JVLR because Powai has no station of its own, while Kurla, Ghatkopar, Vikhroli and Mulund are easier matches. The Eastern Suburbs stretch from Chembur and Govandi through Wadala and Bhandup to Mulund, where the Eastern Freeway and the Santacruz Chembur Link Road put South Mumbai closer than the map suggests.

Navi Mumbai is nodal: Vashi, Nerul, Belapur, Kharghar and Panvel, linked by Palm Beach Road, the Sion Panvel Highway, the Harbour and Trans Harbour lines and now the Atal Setu. We match node to node, because a tutor crossing the creek for a weekday evening lesson rarely lasts a full term, and for a Kharghar or Panvel family needing a scarce HL specialist the screen is simply the better answer. Thane spreads from the station along Pokhran Road, Majiwada and Ghodbunder Road, and Ghodbunder sets the timetable: twenty minutes to Kasarvadavali off peak and close to an hour at 7pm. That one road is why many Thane enquiries settle into online or hybrid. IB Gram works across Mumbai, Maharashtra, and we would rather place a session that starts on time than a tutor who arrives drained.

  • South Mumbai: Colaba, Cuffe Parade, Walkeshwar, Napean Sea Road, Peddar Road, Worli
  • Western Suburbs: Bandra, Khar West, Santacruz West, Juhu, Andheri West, Borivali
  • Central Suburbs: Powai and Chandivali by road on JVLR, Ghatkopar and Mulund by rail
  • Eastern Suburbs: Chembur, Govandi, Wadala and Bhandup, served by the Eastern Freeway
  • Navi Mumbai: Vashi, Nerul, Belapur, Kharghar and Panvel, matched node to node
  • Thane: Pokhran Road, Majiwada and Kasarvadavali, where Ghodbunder Road decides the slot

How the Mumbai school calendar decides what an online session is for

The Mumbai international school year opens in June and that start date sets everything else. A DP1 student who chose six subjects in May spends June and July finding out whether HL Physics was a good idea, which is the one window where a diagnostic session is worth more than any amount of revision. By October the IA drafts begin stacking, and between October and December a DP1 student at a school such as Oberoi International School in Goregaon East or Hiranandani Foundation School in Powai can be carrying a Chemistry IA proposal, a Mathematics exploration outline and the TOK exhibition at the same time.

January and February are mock season, and mocks change what a session is for. A marked mock paper comes back, and the useful hour is not a lesson at all: it is the student reading their own script aloud while the tutor holds the mark scheme on a shared screen and asks, question by question, what the examiner was paying for. Families at Dhirubhai Ambani International School and the American School of Bombay in Bandra Kurla Complex, at Cathedral and John Connon School in Fort, at B.D. Somani International School in Cuffe Parade and at Bombay International School near Babulnath hit that fortnight together, which is also the fortnight when weekday evening home slots across the Western Suburbs are hardest to find.

IGCSE families at Smt. Sulochanadevi Singhania School in Thane, D.Y. Patil International School in Nerul or Ecole Mondiale World School in Juhu work to the May and June series with October and November as the retake route, so their pressure points land a few weeks earlier than the DP calendar. School internal deadlines sit ahead of board deadlines, sometimes by a month, and the internal date is the one the student in front of you is actually frightened of.

IB Gram is an independent platform and is not affiliated with any of these schools, nor with the International Baccalaureate or Cambridge International Education; we name them because their calendars are what families here plan around. The monsoon deserves its own line. Between June and September a downpour on the Western Express Highway or along Ghodbunder Road cancels a home visit at twenty minutes' notice, and the family already running sessions on a screen keeps the slot while the family that is not loses the week.

  • June start: diagnostic sessions beat revision in the first six weeks
  • October to December: IA drafts and the TOK exhibition stack up together
  • January and February mocks: read your own script against the mark scheme
  • IGCSE May and June series, with October and November as the retake route
  • Monsoon weeks: a screen slot holds when a home visit cannot

Home tuition, online or hybrid: which one does your DP student need?

Start with home tuition if the student is young, easily distracted, or has never had one to one teaching before. A home tutor at the table removes every excuse at once: the phone goes face down, the books come out, and a parent can hear the session from the next room. IB home tuition in Mumbai is what most families ask for first and it remains our lead service. Across all IB and IGCSE subjects home classes in Mumbai run as a standing weekly slot that the society gate learns to expect.

Online wins on three specific things and nothing else. It wins on scarcity, because a student in Panvel or Kasarvadavali can work with a specialist in the subject rather than the nearest available generalist. It wins on time, because nobody should spend forty minutes on the Eastern Express Highway to teach for sixty. And it wins on reliability across a whole term, which matters more than any single session, since IB online tuition in Mumbai is not cancelled by a waterlogged junction. What it costs you is the room: the tutor cannot see the shrug, the pencil hovering, the glance at the door, and a tutor who does not replace that information with technique is teaching half blind.

Hybrid is where most long engagements settle without anyone planning it. One home session a week for the hard teaching, where a tutor can turn the student's own book around and write in it, and one or two sessions on a screen for marking, drafts and past papers. Families near Khar West and Santacruz West often run it the other way: a home session on a weekend morning while the highway is quiet, screens on weekday evenings.

Fees move with the mode, and we would rather explain the levers than quote a number we cannot stand behind. IB tuition fees in Mumbai depend on board, on whether the subject is HL or SL, on how scarce that specialist is, on session length and frequency, and on travel: a home tutor crossing two suburbs twice a week is paid for the road as well as the teaching, which is one reason online and hybrid often come out lower. Group sessions, crash revision blocks before mocks and year long engagements all price differently again.

  • Home tuition: suits young, distracted or first-time one-to-one students
  • Online: beats travel for scarce HL subjects and holds through monsoon weeks
  • Hybrid: one home session for teaching, one screen session for marking
  • Fees follow board, level, subject scarcity, session length and travel distance
  • Ask for home classes outright if the student needs a person at the table

How is an online IB tutor checked before a Mumbai family books a term?

Before a family is introduced to anyone we check identity documents, the degree or teaching qualification claimed, and the specific experience claimed on the component you asked about. A tutor who says they teach HL Economics is asked which paper, which syllabus edition, and how they would mark a Paper 1 evaluation paragraph. Vague answers end the conversation at that point rather than in your living room.

For an IB online tutor in Mumbai there is a second layer, because a credential says nothing about whether somebody can teach through a screen. We ask to see the setup: camera position, whether they can annotate a PDF live while talking, whether they have a usable second camera or document camera for handwritten working, and what they do with a student who has gone quiet. We also ask what happens when the connection drops, because that answer separates a professional from an enthusiast.

Then check them yourself in the first session, while you still have the standing to do it. Ask the tutor to annotate one page of your child's real work in front of you. Ask which edition of the subject guide they teach from and when first assessment for it was. Ask what the between-session work will be and how it comes back. Ask about recording: who records, where the file sits, who can see it. And watch for the thing no document shows, which is whether the tutor talks for fifty minutes or makes your child produce something within the first ten.

None of this replaces your judgement and we do not pretend otherwise. We can verify what a tutor has done; we cannot verify that they will suit your child. That is why the first session is short, worked on real material, and followed by a conversation with us rather than an invoice.

  • Identity and qualification documents checked before any introduction is made
  • Component-level questioning: which paper, which criterion, which syllabus edition
  • Setup check: live annotation, second camera, and a connection-drop plan
  • Your own test: ask for live annotation of your child's own page
  • Recording consent agreed in advance, including who stores the file

The craft of a good online session: show me, do not tell me

The single rule that separates a good online IB session from a bad one is that the student produces and the tutor responds, never the other way round. In a room a tutor reads the body language: the pencil that stops, the nod that came too fast, the shoulder turn that means this has stopped making sense. A screen deletes all of it, and tutors who are good online have replaced it with forced production. Write the first line and read it to me. Put your answer in the chat before I say anything. Share your screen and open the document you actually wrote. What a room gives a teacher for free, a screen has to ask for out loud every few minutes.

That is why the second camera is not a gadget conversation. A phone on an inexpensive gooseneck clamp, pointed down at the page, turns a guessing game into teaching. The tutor sees the integration by parts set up wrongly at the beginning instead of the wrong answer at the end. For a DP1 student in Mulund grinding through HL Mathematics past papers, that difference is the whole hour. A document camera is tidier and a tablet with a stylus tidier still, but the clamp works. What does not work is a photograph of a completed page sent afterwards, because by then the thinking has gone cold and the student can only report what they think they did.

Annotating a draft live is the other thing a screen does better than a dining table. The student exports the Biology IA draft as a PDF, the tutor opens it where both can see it, and they walk the published assessment criteria one at a time: here is where the methodology claims a controlled variable the data never records, here is where the evaluation names a limitation without saying what it did to the result. Talking about an IA in the abstract produces a student who agrees with everything and changes nothing; annotation produces a marked up page that has to be acted on. The same holds for a TOK essay read against its prescribed title, an EE chapter read against Criterion C, and a History essay where the counterargument is simply missing.

Shared whiteboards are where sessions quietly waste time. They are excellent for building something together: a free body diagram, a titration curve, an essay skeleton with the student typing the topic sentences while the tutor pushes back on each one. They are useless when the tutor writes and the student watches, which is a lecture with added latency. The test is crude and it works: across an hour, the student's cursor should move at least as much as the tutor's.

Good tutors also build in silence. Seven minutes of a student working a past paper question with the page camera on while the tutor sits muted, marking the previous question live, is worth more than seven minutes of explanation. Recordings help inside a narrow band. Re-watching a derivation, an organic mechanism or a worked Paper 3 data question works, because the student is re-running a procedure. Re-watching a TOK discussion almost never works, because the value was in doing the talking. If sessions are recorded, ask the tutor to close each one with two or three lines naming what to redo, otherwise the file becomes a comfort nobody opens.

Some components should not be taught this way at all. Practical work is the clearest case: apparatus handling, a titration, anything where the IA depends on data the student collects themselves. The Group 4 project is collaborative by design and loses its point one to one. Early PYP needs an adult in arm's reach. Visual Arts process work and MYP Design prototyping want hands on material. We will tell you when the honest answer is a home tutor, because an IB online tutor in Mumbai who pretends a screen can run a laboratory is selling you something.

  • Forced production every few minutes replaces reading the room
  • Phone clamped over the page beats any photo sent after the session
  • Live PDF annotation against published criteria, not a chat about the draft
  • Whiteboard test: the student's cursor moves as much as the tutor's
  • Silent working blocks with the page camera on and the tutor marking
  • Recordings help for procedures, rarely for discussion-based components

What progress looks like at four weeks, one term and one exam cycle in Mumbai

At four weeks you should see diagnosis, not transformation. The tutor should be able to tell you in two sentences what is actually wrong: not that your son is weak at Physics, but that he sets up a momentum problem correctly and loses marks on units and significant figures, or that she knows the Economics content and never answers the command term the question used. A good IB tutor in Mumbai will say that plainly by the fourth session, and if nobody can, the match is wrong.

At one term the measurable things move. Past paper scores stop swinging wildly, which matters more than the average rising. IA drafts travel forward through the criteria instead of being rewritten from scratch each time. The student starts using the mark scheme's own vocabulary, which is the quiet sign that teaching has landed. A DP2 student in Chembur or Vashi should by now be able to look at a question and name what it is testing before starting to answer it.

At one exam cycle you find out how much held under timed conditions, which is a different skill from knowing the material. Mocks expose pacing, question selection and whether a 15 mark question gets read properly before the pen moves. The gap between a student's coursework quality and their mock performance is almost always technique, and technique responds to drilling.

The honest limits matter more than the promises. We do not guarantee grades, and anyone who does is not being straight with you. A tutor cannot make a student do the work between sessions, cannot compress two years of missed foundations into six weeks before mocks, and cannot undo a subject choice that was wrong from the start, although they can flag it early enough for the school to be approached. If a tutor is not working out, tell us after two or three sessions rather than at the end of term. We re-shortlist, the handover includes what has already been covered, and nobody asks you to justify the decision.

  • Four weeks: a two-sentence diagnosis of what is actually losing marks
  • One term: past paper scores stabilise and IA drafts move through criteria
  • One exam cycle: timing, question choice and command-term discipline under pressure
  • No guarantees: between-session work is the variable nobody else controls
  • Replacement after two or three sessions, with a handover of ground covered

Starting IB online tuition in Mumbai, or a home tutor if that suits better

Have three things ready and the first session earns its fee. First, the actual material: the marked paper, the IA draft, the teacher's comment, the question that could not be finished. Second, the deadline, because a draft due in nine days and a mock in eight weeks are different jobs with different session shapes. Third, one honest sentence about attention, since a student who cannot sit through fifty minutes on a screen needs home classes instead, and we would rather know that before the session than after it.

The first session is short and diagnostic. The tutor works on your material, with the page camera on if the subject needs it, and spends most of the time watching the student work rather than explaining. At the end you should get a plain summary: what is wrong, what order to fix it in, and what the between-session work is for the coming fortnight.

Setup takes ten minutes, once. A laptop with a browser, headphones so the audio does not echo around the flat, a phone on a clamp if the subject involves working by hand, and a scanner app for drafts. If a tutor spends a third of a first session on configuration, that is a tutor problem and we will replace them. Families searching for IB tutors near me in Mumbai often end up here for exactly that reason: the nearest tutor and the right tutor are frequently not the same person, and IB online tutoring in Mumbai is how you stop choosing between them. If you would rather have an IB private tutor in Mumbai at your own table, say so, and we match on travel as well as on subject.

  • Bring the marked paper, the draft, or the question that stalled
  • Name the deadline; it decides the shape of the first fortnight
  • Say if attention is the real problem, so we lead with home tuition
  • Laptop, headphones, and a clamped phone for handwritten subjects
  • Tell us within three sessions if the tutor is not right
FAQs

Mumbai tutoring — questions parents ask

Does an online tutor really work for HL Maths, or does my child need someone in the room?+

It works, but only with a camera pointed at the page. Higher Level Mathematics errors live in the working, usually two or three lines in, and a tutor who sees only a finished answer is reconstructing what happened instead of correcting it as it happens. An IB online tutor in Mumbai who cannot see the pen is guessing. A phone on a cheap clamp over the desk solves this completely. Ask any tutor you trial whether they use a second camera and listen to the answer; one who shrugs at the question will spend your sessions asking your child to narrate their own working, which is slow and unreliable.

What equipment do we actually need for an online IB session?+

A laptop, headphones, and a phone you can clamp over the page. That is the whole list for most subjects. Headphones matter more than families expect, because speaker echo makes a tutor talk over a student, and a student who gets talked over stops volunteering answers. A gooseneck clamp costs very little and turns the phone into a document camera. A scanner app is useful for sending IA drafts as PDFs rather than crooked photographs. A tablet and stylus are pleasant but not necessary. For discussion subjects such as TOK, History or Economics essays, the laptop on its own is enough.

Can a tutor mark my daughter's Chemistry IA draft properly over a call?+

Yes, and this is one thing a screen does better than a home visit. She exports the draft as a PDF, the tutor opens it on a shared screen, and they work criterion by criterion with the tutor marking the document as they talk. She finishes the hour holding an annotated file rather than the memory of a conversation. The ordering is what matters: the tutor should show her where her own evidence fails to support her own claim, not dictate replacement sentences. An IA rewritten in somebody else's voice is an academic honesty problem, and a good tutor refuses to create one.

Are sessions recorded, and does re-watching them actually help?+

Only with your consent, and re-watching helps inside a narrow band. Procedural material is worth revisiting: a derivation, an organic mechanism, a worked Paper 3 data question. Discussion is not, because the learning was in the talking and watching it back is passive. If you do record, agree in advance who stores the file and who can see it, and ask the tutor to close each recording with two or three lines naming what to redo before the next session. Without that, families accumulate hours of video nobody opens and start counting it as revision.

My son is in PYP 3. Is online suitable for him?+

Probably not as the main format, and we will say so before you pay. Early Primary Years Programme learning depends on an adult within arm's reach: letter formation, number bonds, reading aloud, the fine motor work a screen cannot reach. In practice the parent ends up running the session as a technician. For a child this age we lead with home tuition, and we can match a home tutor for all IB and IGCSE subjects in Mumbai from PYP through to DP2. Keep screens for occasional reading comprehension or project sessions where you can sit in for the first ten minutes.

We live in Kasarvadavali on Ghodbunder Road. Is a weekday evening home tutor realistic?+

Realistic only if the tutor already lives along that stretch. Ghodbunder Road at 7pm turns a twenty minute drive from Thane station into close to an hour, so a tutor coming from the station side either arrives late or arrives drained, and either way the slot erodes over a term. We match inside Thane where we can, outward from Majiwada and Pokhran Road. Where the subject is scarce enough that no local specialist exists, a screen session on weekday evenings with one home session on Saturday morning is the arrangement that actually survives a full year.

If we choose a home tutor instead, what should we have ready?+

A gate pass arrangement, a table, and an adult in the flat for the first session. Security in most Mumbai societies needs a home tutor registered as a regular visitor, otherwise fifteen minutes of every sixty minute slot disappears at the gate; ask your committee about standing entry for a weekly tutor. The study space matters more than families expect: a dining table, not a bed, with the television off and siblings elsewhere. For the first session a parent at home is worth it, not to supervise the teaching but to agree the routine and the timings.

What do IB tuition fees in Mumbai depend on?+

Board, level, subject scarcity, session length, frequency and travel. We do not publish a price list, because one number would be wrong for most families. An HL subject with few specialists sits differently from a widely taught SL subject. A sixty minute weekly session and a ninety minute session twice a week before mocks are different commitments. A home tutor travelling from Santacruz West to Borivali twice a week is being paid for the road as well as the teaching, which is why online and hybrid arrangements often come out lower. Crash revision blocks, group sessions and year long engagements all price differently again.

How do you stop my child from just watching the screen for an hour?+

By making him produce something every few minutes, which is a technique rather than a personality trait. A good tutor builds in silent working blocks: the student works a question with the page camera on while the tutor marks the previous one, then they compare. Answers go into the chat before the tutor speaks. The student shares a screen and reads his own sentence aloud. If you listen from the next room and hear the tutor talking for most of the hour, that is the wrong tutor whatever the qualifications say, and we will replace them.

Which IB components do you not recommend teaching over a screen?+

Practical work, the Group 4 project, early PYP, and most hands on Visual Arts or MYP Design process work. Anything where the student handles apparatus or collects their own data needs a laboratory or a table with somebody beside them. A tutor can help design the experiment and interrogate the data afterwards, which is genuinely useful, but the collection itself is school work. Collaborative components lose their purpose when run one to one on a call. For those, a home tutor or the school's own support is the honest answer and we will say so.

What happens if the tutor is not working out after three sessions?+

Tell us and we re-shortlist, with no argument and no explanation required. Three sessions is enough to know whether the student is talking, whether the work between sessions is getting done, and whether the tutor can describe the problem accurately. When we replace a tutor we pass on what has already been covered, so the new tutor does not restart the diagnosis from zero, and we tell them what did not work, which is usually pace or style rather than knowledge. Leaving it until the end of a term is the expensive mistake.

Our building's internet drops in the monsoon. What happens to a session in July?+

It moves to a phone hotspot with audio only, or to a make up slot the same week, and both should be agreed before the monsoon starts rather than during it. Ask a prospective tutor what they do when video fails; the right answer is to switch to voice and keep the shared document open, not to abandon the hour. Across Mumbai, July and August are also when travel based slots collapse: a flooded junction on the Western Express Highway or a stalled Andheri underpass ends a home visit outright, while a screen session usually survives on a mobile connection.

Find your Mumbai tutor

Send us the subject, the level, the board and the one thing sitting in front of your child this week: a marked paper, an IA draft, a mock result. We reply with a shortlist of tutors who have taught that exact component, their real availability, and our view on whether a screen, home tuition or a hybrid week fits. You trial one short session on your own material, then tell us to confirm the slot or re-shortlist.
