How IB Gram finds an IB MYP design home tutor in Mumbai

A parent who searches for an IB MYP design home tutor in Mumbai usually has one of three problems sitting in front of them. A Year 3 student has written a specification that reads like a wish list. A Year 4 student has one real idea on the page and two deliberately weak alternatives beside it. Or a Year 5 student has made something in the school workshop and cannot explain in writing why it is better than what already existed. None of those are workshop problems. All three are table problems, which is exactly why Design in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) responds to home tuition in a way most families do not expect.

So the first thing we ask for is not a syllabus extract. It is one page of the current design folder and the name of the school, because a Year 4 folder from Ecole Mondiale World School in Juhu and a Year 4 folder from Oberoi International School on JVLR will have stalled at different stages for different reasons. From there the sequence is short and you control every step of it.

We shortlist for the subject, not the subject group. A physics graduate who has never marked against the Design criteria will coach your child toward a clever object and a thin folder, which is the single most common way a capable thirteen-year-old ends up in the middle of the range. The tutors we put forward have taught or marked MYP Design and can read a criterion strand out loud and say what evidence satisfies it. If we cannot find two of those for your slot and your location, we tell you that instead of sending a near match and hoping.

Scheduling is settled before the first session, not after. A home tutor who agrees to a 6.30pm Tuesday in Chembur and then discovers what the Eastern Express Highway does at that hour will quietly start arriving late in week three. We would rather lose the match at the enquiry stage. IB Gram is an independent platform and is not affiliated with any school named anywhere on this page, so nothing about the shortlist is shaped by where your child studies.

  • 1. Tell us the year group, the school, and which stage of the cycle has stalled.
  • 2. Send one page of the current design folder, even if it is half finished.
  • 3. We shortlist two or three tutors who have actually taught MYP Design.
  • 4. You speak to each shortlisted tutor yourself before any session is booked.
  • 5. The first session ends with a written plan for the next four weeks.
  • 6. You confirm the slot, the travel window, and who sits in.

Where Design sits among the eight MYP subject groups

The Middle Years Programme (MYP) runs across Years 1 to 5, which in most Mumbai schools means roughly Grade 6 through Grade 10, and it organises everything into eight subject groups: language and literature, language acquisition, individuals and societies, sciences, mathematics, arts, physical and health education, and design. Design is a full subject group in its own right, not an enrichment activity bolted onto science. Parents who treat it as the easy one are usually surprised when the Year 5 report arrives, because the folder is marked with the same seriousness as a mathematics investigation.

Inside Design, most schools in Mumbai split the offering into product design and digital design, and some run both across different years. The named strand matters less than parents think. What is assessed is the same cycle in both: the quality of the investigation, the quality of the development, the quality of what was actually produced, and the honesty of the evaluation. A student who codes a website and a student who makes a storage solution for a cramped Mumbai kitchen are marked against the same four criteria.

Year 5 adds the personal project, which sits outside the eight subject groups but draws directly on habits that Design builds: setting a goal, researching it properly, keeping a process journal, and evaluating against criteria the student wrote themselves. A student who has learned to document in Design arrives at the personal project already able to do the hard part. A student who has spent four years making nice objects and writing the folder the night before arrives at it with nothing to fall back on. This is the strongest argument for getting Design support early rather than in Year 5.

MYP subject groups tutor in Mumbai is a broad search, and some families genuinely need that breadth. Parents type all sorts of things into a phone at ten at night: IB tutors near me Mumbai, IB private tutor Mumbai, or simply IB tutor Mumbai. One parent typed the structure out in full as MYP subject groups IB Middle Years Programme (MYP), Years 1-5 tutor Mumbai and still arrived at this page. They are mostly asking for the same thing, which is an IB home tutor in Mumbai who knows the criteria rather than the topic. Hunting for the best IB tutor in Mumbai is the wrong frame anyway; the right frame is the best fit for one child in one subject group. If your child is wobbling across sciences and mathematics as well as Design, say so at the enquiry stage. We would rather give you one home tutor who covers two subject groups well than three tutors who each take a weekday evening out of a thirteen-year-old's week. Structure and sleep beat coverage at this age.

  • Design is a full MYP subject group, marked as seriously as sciences
  • Most Mumbai schools offer product design, digital design, or both
  • Both strands are assessed against the same four criteria
  • The Year 5 personal project rewards documentation habits Design builds
  • Ask for one tutor across two subject groups before adding a third evening

What is actually assessed in MYP Design?

MYP Design is assessed against four criteria, lettered A to D: inquiring and analysing, developing ideas, creating the solution, and evaluating. Three of those four are written and drawn work. Only one of them is the making. This is the fact that reorganises most parents' thinking within about ninety seconds, and it is the reason a subject that looks like it needs a workshop is taught perfectly well at a table in Andheri West or Vashi. For the exact strand wording and any structural detail, read the current subject guide your school issues or ask the MYP coordinator, because the IB revises guides on its own cycle.

Criterion A is the investigation. It asks the student to explain why a problem is worth solving, to research existing products and relevant information, and to turn that research into a design brief and a specification. The commonest failure here is not laziness. It is research that sits in the folder doing nothing. A student pastes in three competitor products and then writes a specification that has no visible relationship to any of them. A tutor's job is to keep asking the same question until it becomes a reflex: which line of your specification came from which piece of research, and what happens to that line if the research is wrong?

Criterion B is the development. It wants genuine alternatives, a justified choice against the specification, and planning detailed enough that someone else could follow it. Criterion C is the creation: the making itself, plus the record of changes made along the way and why. Criterion D is the evaluation, which asks the student to test against their own specification, report honestly where the solution failed, and suggest improvements. A thirteen-year-old who writes that everything worked perfectly has not evaluated. They have advertised.

The work has to be the student's own, and this is not a technicality in Design, where the boundary is easy to blur. A tutor may teach a drawing technique, critique a sketch, question a decision, demonstrate on their own separate paper, and point out that a specification line is untestable. A tutor may not draw, redraw, retouch, model, write or supply any part of the folder that will be assessed. Every product, image, article or practitioner the student refers to gets credited in the folder with a source. Schools in Mumbai check this, and they are right to.

  • Criterion A: inquiring and analysing, including research that justifies the specification
  • Criterion B: developing ideas, with real alternatives and a justified choice
  • Criterion C: creating the solution, plus the record of changes made
  • Criterion D: evaluating honestly against the specification, including what failed
  • Three of the four criteria are written and drawn, not made
  • Every referenced product, image or practitioner must be credited in the folder

Home tuition for MYP Design across all six Mumbai zones

IB Gram matches an IB MYP design home tutor in Mumbai across all six zones, and the practical differences between them are about travel windows and table space rather than teaching. In South Mumbai, families in Colaba, Cuffe Parade, Walkeshwar and Tardeo are close to each other on a map and far apart at 6pm, because the Peddar Road and Haji Ali signals absorb whatever time the short distance saved. We match inside the island city rather than bringing a tutor down from the suburbs, and the Coastal Road has changed the Worli to Nariman Point run enough that a Worli-based tutor can now reasonably hold a Cuffe Parade slot.

The Western Suburbs are the heaviest zone for MYP enquiries, running from Bandra and Khar West through Santacruz, Juhu and Andheri West up to Goregaon East, Malad, Kandivali, Borivali and Dahisar. Matching along the Western Line and Metro Lines 2A and 7 works; matching across the Western Express Highway at peak does not. A tutor living near Oshiwara can serve Andheri West and Goregaon East comfortably. The same tutor asked to reach Bandra on a Thursday evening will be the one who starts rescheduling.

In the Central Suburbs, Powai and Chandivali are the awkward pair, because Powai has no railway station of its own and tutors arrive by road from Andheri East, Kanjurmarg or Ghatkopar along JVLR. Kurla and Ghatkopar sit on the Central Line and Metro Line 1, which makes them easy to staff. Across in the Eastern Suburbs, Chembur, Govandi, Vikhroli, Bhandup, Mulund and Wadala are served by the Central and Harbour lines, the Eastern Express Highway and the Eastern Freeway, and that Freeway is why a Chembur student can realistically be taught by a tutor who also works in Fort.

Navi Mumbai works node to node. Vashi, Nerul, Belapur, Kharghar, Airoli and Panvel are each a short drive from the next along Palm Beach Road and the Sion-Panvel Highway, and the Atal Setu has shortened the island city crossing considerably, but we still match within Navi Mumbai for a standing weekly slot because a bridge does not fix a 7pm return. Thane runs west to east from the station across Pokhran Road, Majiwada, Hiranandani Estate and out along Ghodbunder Road to Kasarvadavali, where the evening crawl sets the whole schedule. Thane tutors cover Thane; Mulund tutors sometimes cross the boundary and rarely the other way round.

  • South Mumbai: Colaba, Cuffe Parade, Walkeshwar, Tardeo, matched inside the island
  • Western Suburbs: Bandra, Khar West, Juhu, Andheri West, Malad, Borivali, Dahisar
  • Central Suburbs: Powai and Chandivali reached by road along JVLR
  • Eastern Suburbs: Chembur, Govandi, Vikhroli, Bhandup, Mulund, linked by the Eastern Freeway
  • Navi Mumbai: Vashi, Nerul, Belapur, Kharghar, Airoli, Panvel, matched node to node
  • Thane: Pokhran Road, Majiwada, Ghodbunder Road up to Kasarvadavali

How the Mumbai school calendar squeezes a Design folder

Most international schools in Mumbai, Maharashtra run a June to April year, and MYP Design units are usually spread two or three to a year with a long tail of folder work after the making is finished. That tail is where families get caught. The student finishes the object in the school workshop in late January, feels done, and then discovers in the second week of February that criterion C's record of changes and the whole of criterion D are still unwritten, in the same fortnight that an individuals and societies assessment lands.

The pressure points repeat. August and September bring the first unit deadline of the year, which is usually the one where a Year 2 or Year 3 student learns what a specification actually is. November and December carry a second unit plus end-of-semester reporting, and in Year 5 this is also when personal project supervisors start asking for evidence of a process journal rather than promises about one. February and March are the heaviest stretch, with final folders, personal project submission in many schools, and the Year 5 cohort simultaneously choosing Diploma Programme (DP) subjects.

Different schools apply different internal deadlines inside that frame. Families at Dhirubhai Ambani International School and Ascend International School in the Bandra Kurla Complex, at Jamnabai Narsee International School and Utpal Shanghvi Global School in Juhu, at Hiranandani Foundation School in Powai, at NES International School in Mulund West, at the JBCN International School campuses in Parel, Borivali, Oshiwara and Chembur, at Bombay International School near Babulnath, and at D.Y. Patil International School in Nerul all work to calendars their own coordinators publish. We ask for yours at the enquiry stage and the tutor plans backwards from it. IB Gram is independent and not affiliated with any of those schools.

The useful habit a home tutor installs here is simple and unglamorous. Each unit gets a reverse plan written on one page in the first week: the date the folder is due, the date the making must be finished to leave time for the write-up, the date the specification must be locked, and the date the user has to be interviewed. A thirteen-year-old will not produce that plan unprompted. Two or three units in, many of them do.

  • June to April year; Design units spread two or three across it
  • August and September: first unit deadline, usually a specification lesson
  • November and December: second unit, reporting, personal project evidence checks
  • February and March: final folders, personal project submission, DP subject choices
  • The folder tail after making is where most families lose time
  • Ask your coordinator for the published internal deadlines and plan backwards

Home tuition, online or hybrid for MYP Design?

For MYP Design at Years 1 to 5, home tuition is the mode we recommend first, and the reason is about attention rather than quality of teaching. A thirteen-year-old with a design folder open in a browser tab and a group chat open in another is not going to interrogate their own specification for fifty minutes. An IB MYP design home tutor in Mumbai sitting at the same table can see the moment the student stops thinking and starts decorating, which is the moment that costs marks. Home classes also let the tutor look at printed sketches side by side rather than one at a time on a screen. IB home tuition in Mumbai suits this subject precisely because the hard part is a conversation held over paper.

Online suits a narrower set of cases and we say so plainly rather than selling it. It works when a tutor with real MYP Design experience lives in the wrong zone, when the family travels, when the slot that fits is 8.45pm and nobody should be driving to Kasarvadavali for it, and for short feedback sessions on a folder draft between full lessons. An IB online tutor in Mumbai can read a specification line by line on a shared screen perfectly well. What online cannot do is judge the physical thing, and we do not pretend otherwise.

Hybrid is what most of our Design families settle into by the second month. The weekly session is at home, and a short midweek call covers the draft the student wrote since. That pattern suits the subject because Design work happens in bursts: nothing for four days, then everything the evening before the folder checkpoint. A twenty-minute call on the Wednesday catches the specification problem while it is still cheap to fix.

One boundary applies in every mode. The making itself belongs in the school workshop or design room, supervised by the school's teacher, with the school's equipment and the school's rules. A home tutor does not supervise construction, does not advise on machines or materials handling, and does not set up anything at your flat for your child to attempt alone. If the solution needs testing with real users, that goes through the school as well, with the teacher deciding what is appropriate. What comes home is the documentation, the drawing, the thinking and the photographs.

  • Home tuition first: attention, printed sketches, and a tutor who sees drift
  • Online for feedback on drafts, travel weeks, and late slots
  • Hybrid is where most Design families land by month two
  • Online cannot judge a physical prototype; nobody should claim it can
  • Making and user testing stay with the school and its teacher
  • What comes home is documentation, drawings, thinking and photographs

How are tutors checked before they reach your building?

Every tutor on IB Gram is checked on identity, on qualifications, and on claimed teaching experience before any profile is shown to a family, and for an IB MYP design home tutor in Mumbai we add a subject check on top. Government photo identification is verified against the name on the profile. Degree and teaching certificates are collected and the issuing institution is confirmed. Claimed MYP Design experience is checked by conversation with someone who knows the criteria, because a CV line saying design is not the same as having marked criterion D on thirty folders.

What that check cannot do is tell you whether this adult is right for your particular child, and no verification process anywhere can. That part is yours. Speak to the shortlisted tutor before the first session and ask three concrete questions. Ask what they would do with a specification line that says the product should be attractive. Ask how they handle a student who has made the object already and now has to write the development section honestly. Ask what they will not do, and listen for whether they volunteer the line about not touching assessed work before you raise it.

Then check the boundary in practice rather than on trust. After the second session, look at the folder yourself. If the sketches have suddenly become fluent in a way your child's drawing has never been, or the written voice has changed, that is a conversation to have immediately, with us as well as with the tutor. A tutor who adds polish to a Year 4 folder is not helping. They are setting up an academic honesty problem for a child who will not understand why the school is unhappy.

Be wary of anyone who promises a specific grade band, and be wary of anyone who offers to prepare the folder structure in advance so your child can fill it in. Both are shortcuts that fail in exactly the place MYP Design is strongest at detecting them: the evaluation, where a student has to say honestly what went wrong, and cannot, because the process they are describing was not theirs. IB Gram does not guarantee grades and no honest tutor will either.

  • Government photo identification verified against the profile name
  • Degrees and teaching certificates collected and confirmed with the issuer
  • MYP Design experience tested in conversation, not taken from a CV line
  • You interview the shortlisted tutor before anything is booked
  • Check the folder yourself after session two for changes in voice or line quality
  • Be wary of anyone who promises a specific grade band

The design cycle, taught at a dining table in Mumbai

Here is what a good IB MYP design home tutor in Mumbai actually does across a unit, stage by stage, with nothing in it that needs a workshop. It starts with the user. Most weak folders begin with a student who already knows what they want to make and then goes hunting for someone who needs it. The tutor reverses that. Who is this for, by name or by role? A grandmother in a Dadar flat with a knee she cannot bend? The school's lost property desk? The younger sibling who shares a desk? Until there is a real person with a real inconvenience, nothing downstream can be justified.

Then research that earns its place. The test is brutal and it is the one habit worth installing above all others: every piece of research in the folder must end in a sentence beginning with the word so. The existing products all use a clip that needs two hands, so the specification requires one-handed operation. A user interview says the kitchen counter is shallow, so the specification sets a maximum depth. Research with no so is decoration. A tutor who sits beside a student and refuses to let a single research page survive without one changes the folder more than any amount of drawing coaching.

Next, turning a want into something testable. A thirteen-year-old writes that the product should be durable, easy to use and look good. None of those can be tested, which means criterion D has nothing to measure against and the evaluation collapses into opinion. The tutor's question is always the same: how would we know? Durable becomes something a stated weight can rest on. Easy to use becomes something a named user can operate one-handed on the first attempt. Looks good becomes a stated constraint drawn from the research, such as matching the colours already in that kitchen.

Then alternatives, planning and the honest evaluation. Real alternatives means three approaches that genuinely differ, not one idea plus two sketches drawn badly on purpose, which examiners recognise instantly. The tutor makes the student argue for each one against the specification before choosing. Planning means writing the test before anything is made, so the student knows on day one how the solution will be judged and by whom, with any testing involving other people arranged through the school. And the evaluation is where the tutor earns the fee: pushing a child to write that the hinge failed, that the user found it confusing, that the second criterion was never met, because a folder that reports a failure accurately scores above one that claims a flawless result nobody tested.

  • Start from a named user with a real inconvenience, never from an idea
  • Every research page must end in a sentence starting with so
  • Replace durable and easy to use with criteria a test can check
  • Three genuinely different alternatives, each argued against the specification
  • Write the test before anything is made; people testing goes via school
  • Report what failed; an honest evaluation outscores a flawless claim

What progress looks like at four weeks and one term

At four weeks you should not expect a changed report. You should expect changed behaviour, and it is visible if you know where to look. The student starts a unit by asking who it is for instead of what they will make. The specification has numbers and named conditions in it rather than adjectives. There is a reverse plan on a page somewhere. If none of that has shifted after four sessions, something is wrong with the match and we would rather hear about it in week four than in month four.

At one term the folder itself should look different. Research pages carry conclusions. The development section shows alternatives that actually differ and a choice argued against the specification rather than announced. There is a planned test described before the making rather than remembered afterwards. Teacher feedback usually shifts tone around here, from comments about effort to comments about reasoning, and that shift is the honest signal that the work is moving.

Across a full year, including Year 5 with the personal project running alongside, the realistic outcome is a student who can run the cycle without being walked through it and who writes an evaluation that a teacher believes. Some students move several bands in that time. Some move one. A few move none in the mark book while becoming far more capable, because they were already coasting on making skill and are now doing genuinely harder thinking that has not yet shown up in a grade. We will tell you which of those we think is happening rather than let a term pass quietly.

The honest limits are worth stating plainly. A home tutor cannot make a child care about a unit they find pointless, cannot replace attendance in the design room, and cannot fix a folder in the fortnight before submission without crossing the line about whose work it is. IB Gram does not guarantee grades, and we are an independent platform with no affiliation to any school. If a tutor is not working, tell us; we replace rather than persuade, and the replacement starts with reading the first tutor's notes so your child is not restarting from zero.

  • Four weeks: behaviour changes, not marks; the user question comes first
  • One term: research pages carry conclusions, alternatives genuinely differ
  • Teacher comments shift from effort to reasoning when the work is moving
  • A year: the student runs the cycle unprompted and evaluates credibly
  • Tell us in week four if nothing has shifted; we replace, not persuade
  • A replacement tutor reads the previous notes before the first session

Getting started with IB MYP design home classes in Mumbai

Have three things ready and the first session will be useful rather than introductory. First, the current design folder, even if it is two pages and one of them is blank. Second, the unit sheet or task sheet the teacher issued, which carries the internal deadline and often the specific criteria being assessed in this unit. Third, your child's own one-sentence description of what is going wrong. That third item is frequently the most informative, because a student who says I do not know what to write for criterion B is describing a different problem from one who says I finished it and got a low mark.

The first session runs about an hour and it is mostly diagnostic. The tutor reads the folder with your child rather than at them, stops at the first point where a claim is unsupported, and works forward from there. By the end there should be a written plan naming what gets fixed this week, what gets fixed before the checkpoint, and one habit to practise. Parents are welcome to sit in on that first one. Most do, and most stop by the third, which is usually the right instinct for a thirteen-year-old.

Fees are not fixed and we will not quote a figure that pretends they are. What IB tuition fees in Mumbai actually depend on is the board and level, how scarce the subject specialism is, how far the tutor travels and at what time of day, how long each session runs, and how many sessions a week you book. MYP Design sits toward the scarcer end, because there are far fewer trained Design teachers in the city than mathematics teachers. A tutor crossing from Bandra to Kharghar on a weekday evening will quote differently from one walking across Hiranandani Gardens in Powai, and that is travel cost rather than teaching quality.

Send the enquiry with your zone, your child's year group, the school, and the slot you want. We come back with two or three names, you speak to them, and you choose. Nobody is assigned to you. If you would rather start with a single diagnostic session before committing to a weekly slot, ask for exactly that, and say so in the first message so the tutor plans the hour accordingly. If you want one person across more than one group, ask for a home tutor for MYP subject groups Mumbai families book weekly and name the groups in priority order. MYP subject groups home classes Mumbai parents arrange on a weekday evening usually run about an hour, and two shorter sessions beat one long one for a child in Year 2 or Year 3.

  • Bring the folder, the task sheet, and your child's own description of the problem
  • First session is diagnostic and ends in a written four-week plan
  • Sit in on session one; most parents step back by session three
  • Fees depend on level, scarcity, travel, session length and frequency
  • You pick from a shortlist; no tutor is assigned to you
FAQs

Mumbai tutoring — questions parents ask

Will a tutor travel to our building in Mumbai for a weekday evening slot?+

Yes, provided the match is made within your zone rather than across the city. A home tutor living in Chembur or Govandi will hold a 6.30pm Eastern Suburbs slot for a full term. The same tutor asked to reach Borivali at that hour will not, whatever they promise at the enquiry stage. So we match along corridors: the Western Line for the Western Suburbs, the Central Line and JVLR for Powai and Ghatkopar, Palm Beach Road for Navi Mumbai nodes. If your preferred time is the problem rather than the place, tell us the second-best slot too.

What does our society gate need from a home tutor each week?+

Usually a standing visitor entry, which most Mumbai societies will issue once the flat registers the tutor as a recurring weekly visitor. Ask your committee or facility manager to add the tutor to the regular visitor list with a photo identification record, which saves ten minutes of gate friction every session. In larger complexes in Powai, Kharghar and along Ghodbunder Road the app-based gate pass is simpler: approve once, repeat weekly. Tutors carry their identification and expect to show it. If your building requires police verification documents for recurring visitors, tell us at the enquiry stage so we shortlist tutors who already hold them.

Does a parent need to be at home during a home tuition session?+

Someone from the household should be in the flat, though not in the room. For a student in Years 1 to 5 of the MYP we ask that an adult family member is at home for the duration, with the session happening in a shared space such as a dining area or living room rather than behind a closed bedroom door. That is standard practice and good tutors expect it. You do not need to supervise the teaching. A quiet table, a plug point, decent light and no television in earshot are worth more than your attendance.

My child is good at making things but the Design marks are average. Why?+

Because three of the four Design criteria are about thinking, documenting and evaluating, and only one is about the making. A student who builds beautifully and writes thinly will land in the middle of the range no matter how good the object is. The usual gaps are research that does not justify the specification, alternatives that were never genuinely considered, and an evaluation that reports success rather than testing it. None of that is a comment on your child's ability. It is a comment on which evidence the criteria ask for, and it is fixable at a table in a few weeks.

Can a tutor help with the making if we have no workshop at home?+

No, and you should not want one who offers. All making belongs in the school's workshop or design room, with the school's teacher supervising, the school's equipment and the school's safety rules. A home tutor does not set up construction, does not advise on tools, machines, adhesives or materials handling, and does not ask a student to attempt anything of that kind alone at home. What happens at your table is the investigation, the drawing, the specification, the planning and the evaluation. Your child brings photographs of the work in progress and the tutor critiques the documentation around it.

How much of the folder can a tutor actually touch?+

None of it. A tutor may teach a drawing technique, demonstrate on their own separate sheet, critique a sketch, question a decision and point out that a specification line cannot be tested. A tutor may not draw, redraw, retouch, model, write or supply any part of the assessed folder, and may not plan it out for your child to copy. Any product, article, image or designer the student refers to is credited with a source in the folder. If you ever see work appear that your child cannot explain to you in their own words, raise it with us straight away.

Is online tuition a reasonable option for a making subject?+

For parts of it, yes. Reviewing a specification line by line, critiquing a sketch on a shared screen, and giving feedback on a folder draft between sessions all work well remotely, and an IB online tutor in Mumbai is often the fastest way to reach a scarce Design specialist. What does not work online is judging a physical prototype or deciding whether something is buildable in a workshop the tutor has never seen. In those moments the student brings photographs, and the school's teacher stays the authority on what is actually feasible with the equipment available.

What should the first four weeks change if the tutoring is working?+

Behaviour, not marks. By week four your child should be starting a unit by asking who the user is instead of what to make, writing specification lines that name a condition rather than an adjective, and keeping some form of reverse plan for the deadline. Teacher comments usually change tone a little later. If none of that has moved after four sessions, the match is wrong and we would rather swap the tutor than let a term drift. Tell us; a replacement reads the first tutor's notes so nothing restarts from scratch.

What does an IB MYP design home tutor in Mumbai cost?+

It depends on five things and we will not invent a figure. Level and board, how scarce the specialism is, travel distance and time of day, session length, and sessions per week. MYP Design is scarcer than mathematics or sciences in Mumbai, so the specialist pool is smaller and that shows up in rates. A tutor walking across Hiranandani Gardens in Powai and a tutor driving Bandra to Thane on a Tuesday evening are not quoting the same number, and the difference is travel, not teaching. Shortlisted tutors quote you directly before you commit.

We are in Thane past Ghodbunder Road. Is a weekly slot realistic?+

Yes, if the tutor is based in Thane. A tutor near Thane station reaches Kasarvadavali in about twenty minutes off-peak and close to an hour at 7pm, so we match within Thane and treat Mulund as the only reasonable crossover. Families in Hiranandani Estate, Majiwada and along Pokhran Road are generally straightforward. If you need a specialism that genuinely is not available locally, the honest answer is a hybrid pattern: a weekend session at home and a shorter weekday call, rather than a weekday commute that collapses by week five.

Can one tutor cover Design alongside another MYP subject group?+

Often, and it is usually the better arrangement at this age. Many of our tutors cover Design alongside sciences, mathematics or individuals and societies, and a single home tutor who already knows your child's working habits costs less disruption than three separate evenings. Say at the enquiry stage which subject groups you want covered and in what priority. If the second subject needs real depth, we will tell you that two specialists is the honest answer rather than stretch one tutor across both and leave you to find out in November.

What happens if the tutor is not working out after a few sessions?+

Tell us and we replace, without a persuasion conversation first. Mismatches happen for ordinary reasons: pace, personality, a tutor who explains well to an adult and not to a thirteen-year-old. We ask for one specific example so the next shortlist is better aimed, then put forward fresh names, and the incoming tutor reads the previous tutor's session notes before the first lesson so your child is not retelling the whole story. There is no penalty for changing and no limit we hold over you. A bad match corrected in week three costs almost nothing.

Find your Mumbai tutor

Send us your Mumbai zone, your child's year group, the school and the evening slot you want. We come back with two or three verified tutors who have taught MYP Design, you speak to each one yourself, and you choose. The first session is diagnostic and ends with a written four-week plan. If the match is wrong, say so and we replace it.
