IB Mathematics Tutor in Vile Parle East, Mumbai

An IB maths tutor in Vile Parle East is usually hired for one reason: the final answers are right and the marks are not. This page is about diagnosing that gap, what a first home tuition session should find, the Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation route decision, and what one term of work realistically changes.

Tutors matched by the route your child sits, AA or AI, not by subject name
First session opens with a marked past-paper question, not a chat

How IB Gram shortlists an IB maths home tutor in Vile Parle East

The request that gets filled fastest names the route, not just the subject. Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches and Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation are taught by different people well, and a tutor fluent in one can be mediocre in the other. Tell us the route, Higher Level (HL) or Standard Level (SL), the year group, and which two evenings in the week you can protect. Then tell us the one sentence from the last report that worried you. That sentence does more work in a shortlist than a grade average, because "must show full working" and "cannot select an approach for an unfamiliar problem" are two completely different problems with two different tutors attached. Almost every request we take in this suburb is for home tuition rather than a centre class, and in Mumbai that preference is practical rather than aspirational.

We then look for someone who has prepared students for the current papers recently, which in Mathematics matters more than in most subjects. The International Baccalaureate (IB) has revised this subject's structure within living memory of most tutors, and a teacher working from the previous arrangement will drill the wrong emphasis for a whole term. Recency beats seniority here. A tutor who sat with four Diploma Programme (DP) students through the last examination series is worth more than one who taught the subject for a decade and stopped five years ago.

From your message to a confirmed weekly slot, the steps run in this order:

The diagnostic lesson is the step people want to skip and the one that decides everything. It happens at your table, at the hour you will actually use, and it is paid, because unpaid sample lessons encourage a tutor to be charming rather than accurate. By the end of it you should have two named topics and a reason. If the tutor's summary is that your child needs more practice, that is not a diagnosis, and you should ask for a different shortlist without feeling awkward about it.

  • 1. Send the route (AA or AI), the level, the year group and two free evenings.
  • 2. Add the one line from the report card that made you start searching.
  • 3. We shortlist two or three tutors currently teaching that route and level.
  • 4. You speak to each by phone before anybody is given your address.
  • 5. One paid diagnostic lesson runs at your table, in your real weekly slot.

Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation: which route is your child on?

Ask the school, in writing, and get the answer before you hire anyone. Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches is the algebraic and proof-weighted route. It rewards fluency with manipulation, a comfort with abstraction, and the discipline of justifying a step rather than asserting it. Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation is modelling and data weighted. It rewards reading a context, choosing a tool, using technology properly and interpreting the output in the language of the original problem. Both exist at Higher Level and Standard Level, and the four combinations behave like four different subjects in a tutoring plan.

The route decision is usually made in the first weeks of DP1 and is hardest for students arriving from the Middle Years Programme (MYP), where criterion-based marking does not clearly signal which of these two temperaments a student has. A student who was strong in MYP mathematics because they were quick and accurate often picks Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level and then meets formal proof, which is a different skill from being quick. A student who was strong because they understood what the numbers meant can be badly served by being pushed towards AA for university optics.

Switching route or level is possible early and painful late, and the deadline is set by your school rather than by the IB. If the conversation is happening in DP1, the honest tutoring question is whether the difficulty is route fit or preparation. Four weeks of focused work on algebraic manipulation will tell you which, and that is a far better basis for the decision than one disappointing unit test. If the conversation is happening in DP2, the realistic plan is almost always to make the current route work.

Paper structure and what technology is permitted in each paper differ between the two routes, and the current subject guide is where to confirm it for the year your child actually sits. No tutor should be quoting weightings or durations from memory. On our own matching sheet, a request like this is filed as Mathematics IB and IGCSE, Years 1-12 tutor Mumbai work, which only describes the pool we draw from. This page is about the IB route, and the Cambridge syllabus has its own page and its own tutors.

  • AA rewards manipulation, abstraction and justified steps
  • AI rewards context reading, tool choice and interpretation of output
  • HL and SL in each route behave like four separate tutoring problems
  • Route switches are cheap in DP1 and expensive in DP2
  • Confirm permitted technology per paper in the current subject guide

Where Vile Parle East students actually lose marks in IB Mathematics

Three patterns account for most of the marks lost by the DP students an IB maths tutor in Vile Parle East is called in for. The first is method marks on a correct answer. A student solves a problem mentally or on a calculator, writes one line, and gets the final value right. The scheme awards marks for the derivative, the substitution and the conclusion separately, so a right answer with no visible route scores a fraction of the available marks. Parents read the report comment "must show working" as a presentation issue. It is a marks issue, and it is the single cheapest thing a home tutor can fix.

The second is tool selection on unfamiliar problems. A student who knows the chain rule, the product rule and implicit differentiation individually will stall on an optimisation question that requires deciding which one the situation needs. This is where school teaching runs out of time, because a class of twenty-six cannot wait while one student works out a strategy. A Mathematics tutor in Vile Parle East working one to one can sit through the thirty seconds of deciding, which is exactly the skill the paper tests.

The third is the mathematical exploration, the internally assessed piece every DP mathematics student writes. The usual failures are structural rather than mathematical. A topic chosen because it sounded interesting but contains no mathematics beyond plotting a graph. A topic so large that the student never gets past describing it. Personal engagement written as a paragraph of enthusiasm rather than visible in the choices made. Reflection added in the last week. The exploration is marked against published criteria, and reading those criteria with the student in week one of the process changes the band more than any amount of content teaching.

At Higher Level the additional topics bite in specific places: vectors in three dimensions, complex numbers in polar form, proof by induction, and the HL-only extended response paper where one long question runs across several unfamiliar contexts. Students who coped with SL content by pattern matching hit a wall there, because the paper is designed so that no pattern has been seen before. Mathematics home classes Vile Parle East parents book in DP2 are overwhelmingly about that paper.

  • Right answer, no visible method: the cheapest marks to recover
  • Choosing which technique an unfamiliar problem needs, not knowing each one
  • Exploration topics with no mathematics in them beyond a graph
  • HL pressure points: vectors in three dimensions, polar form, induction
  • The HL extended-response paper deliberately offers no familiar pattern

Which Mumbai areas supply maths specialists to Vile Parle East?

Mathematics is the one subject where the Western Suburbs have genuine depth, so you are not forced to accept a long commute. Santacruz East is the strongest neighbouring source: it sits on the same side of the Western Express Highway, the approach does not involve crossing the highway or the railway, and a tutor from there can hold a 6pm slot without gambling on traffic. Andheri East is the second source and a good one for Higher Level work, particularly for tutors living near Metro Line 1 on the Versova to Andheri to Ghatkopar corridor. BKC supplies some of the strongest Diploma mathematics tutors in Mumbai, Maharashtra, and also the least reliable weekday evening commute, so we tend to match BKC tutors to weekend slots.

The geography of the Western Suburbs explains the pattern. Everything runs north to south along the Western Express Highway and the Western Line, so travel along the line is quick off-peak and slow at 6pm, while travel across the line is slow at every hour. Matching along the line, Khar to Santacruz or Malad to Kandivali, survives a full term. Pulling a tutor across it for a Tuesday evening does not. For a maths request in Vile Parle East that means the shortlist is built outward from Vile Parle station rather than outward from a list of qualifications.

Vile Parle station on the Western Line is the practical anchor for tutors who travel by train, and Metro Lines 2A and 7 on the Dahisar to Andheri to Gundavali stretch have brought tutors from the northern suburbs into realistic range for the first time. Link Road matters less to this pocket than the highway does, because the natural approach to the Vile Parle East–Hanuman Road area comes off the highway side.

Inside Vile Parle East the last leg still changes the schedule. Buildings deeper in the lanes add an unpredictable few minutes, and a tutor who drives will spend longer parking than covering the final stretch. Parents searching for IB tutors near me in Vile Parle East are usually trying to control exactly that variable. An IB private tutor Vile Parle East families retain for two full years is almost always someone whose approach is short and boring, not someone with the longest subject list.

  • Santacruz East: same highway side, the most dependable weekday approach
  • Andheri East: good HL depth, strong along Metro Line 1
  • BKC: excellent DP mathematics tutors, best matched to weekend slots
  • Shortlists are built outward from Vile Parle station, not from a CV pile
  • A driving tutor needs a parking answer before week one, not in week three

The report card months that send Vile Parle East parents looking for maths help

Mathematics searches in this suburb cluster into two short windows, and both are driven by school paperwork rather than by examinations. Families here attend Bombay Cambridge International School in Andheri East and Dhirubhai Ambani International School in BKC among others, and each sets its own internal assessment calendar. IB Gram is an independent platform and is not affiliated with either school, or with any other school named here. They are named because their calendars decide when a maths tutor is available.

The first window is late October into November, when the first substantial DP1 unit tests are returned and the gap between a student's MYP performance and their DP mathematics performance becomes visible for the first time. This is the useful month to start. The content is still being taught, so a tutor can fix the algebraic foundation while the class is moving through it, and the student experiences support rather than rescue.

The second window is January, and it is the worst month to begin. DP2 trial examinations, the mathematical exploration deadline and in many schools the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge dates all fall within a few weeks of one another. Every competent maths tutor in the Western Suburbs is asked for extra hours in the same fortnight. A family that booked a standing slot in September keeps it through January without negotiating. A family that starts searching in January is choosing from whoever has an empty evening, which in Mumbai is a very different pool.

February to April is run-in work, and the shape should change rather than the volume increase. Timed papers marked against the real scheme, with the marking read aloud, replace new teaching. Students discover in that month how many marks they have been giving away to presentation, and the discovery is more persuasive from a mark scheme than from a parent. May is the examination series itself, and the sensible instinct is to taper. June and July are the quietest and most productive months of the year for mathematics specifically, because algebra repaired in the monsoon does not have to be repaired in January.

  • Late October: first DP1 unit tests expose the MYP to DP gap
  • January: trials, the exploration deadline and the EE landing together
  • February to April: timed papers marked against the real scheme
  • May and June: taper rather than add sessions
  • June and July: the cheapest months to rebuild algebra properly

Maths home classes at your own table, or an online screen in Mumbai?

For mathematics specifically, home tuition has an advantage that is easy to underestimate: the tutor can see the page. Watching a student's hand hesitate before writing a line, seeing what they cross out, noticing that the working runs down the margin in a column with no equals signs, these are the diagnostic signals, and a camera pointed at a face loses all of them. An IB maths home tuition arrangement in Vile Parle East also removes the forty minutes each way that a centre class costs on a school night, which in this suburb after 5pm is not a small saving.

The honest trade-off is rigidity and supply. Your tutor has a route through the evening and your slot sits inside it, so moving Tuesday to Wednesday is genuinely difficult rather than a small favour. Home sessions also need a workable table, decent light and a door that closes. A dining table with a younger sibling practising the piano at 7pm is not a maths environment, and no tutor will say so on the first visit.

Online earns a real place in three situations rather than as a cheaper option. The first is a Higher Level Analysis and Approaches specialist who genuinely does not live within reach, which happens more often than families expect. The second is the examination term, when a focused forty minutes reviewing a marked paper beats a ninety-minute visit, especially if the student has already done the paper. The third is the monsoon, where an agreed online week prevents a cancellation becoming a missed fortnight. An IB online tutor in Vile Parle East can also hold a Sunday morning that no travelling tutor would accept.

Mathematics does need one thing from an online setup that other subjects do not: a document camera, a tablet with a stylus, or a shared whiteboard where both people can write. Audio and a screen share is not enough for this subject. If a tutor proposes online lessons for mathematics without a way to see and annotate the student's actual working, the format will fail and it will look like the student's fault. The arrangement that works best here is home sessions through the teaching terms with planned online weeks, agreed in advance so the student never experiences online as the tutor cancelling.

  • Home sessions let a tutor watch the hand hesitate and read the crossings out
  • A camera on a face loses every diagnostic signal in mathematics
  • Online fits scarce HL AA specialists, the exam term and monsoon weeks
  • Mathematics online needs a stylus, a document camera or a shared board
  • Agree the online weeks in advance so they do not read as cancellations

How do you tell an IB Mathematics specialist from a confident generalist?

Ask three questions and the answer is clear within five minutes. Which route and level have you prepared students for in the last two examination series? Walk me through how you would mark this question from my child's last test. And what do you find hardest to teach in this subject? A specialist answers the first with specifics, reaches for the mark scheme on the second, and names something real on the third. A generalist answers the first with a list of subjects, the second with the correct final answer, and the third with a claim that nothing is particularly hard.

Our own checks happen before anyone is shortlisted. We confirm identity against a government photo document, take and verify two references from previous teaching or tutoring work, and establish which routes and levels the tutor has actually taught recently rather than which ones appear on their profile. We do not run police verification, we do not hold anyone's unreleased employment records, and we do not audit a tutor's claims about past results. IB Gram is an independent platform, not affiliated with any school named on this page, and we do not guarantee grades.

At the door, ask to see photo identification on the first visit, in front of your child. In Mumbai this is normal and a tutor who is offended by it has not worked in many homes here. Then watch the first three sessions for the one signal that matters in mathematics: does the tutor make your child write the method before computing anything? A tutor who demonstrates on their own paper while the student watches is giving a lecture. A tutor who hands the pen over in the first fifteen minutes is teaching.

Be wary of a tutor who promises a specific grade, or who offers to write any part of the mathematical exploration. The second is an academic honesty breach that can follow a student into their results, and the schools in this suburb are explicit about it in their policies. A tutor may teach the criteria, mark a practice piece on a different topic and explain what a reflection section is for. A tutor may not touch the submitted document. Any vagueness there is a reason to end the conversation, whatever the subject knowledge looks like.

  • Ask which route and level they prepared students for in the last two series
  • Ask them to mark one question from your child's last test, out loud
  • Ask what they find hardest to teach; vagueness is the answer
  • Watch whether the pen is handed over in the first fifteen minutes
  • No tutor touches the exploration document itself, at any point

What a first diagnostic session finds in a Vile Parle East maths student

A good first session runs backwards from the evidence. The tutor puts a question from your child's last assessment in front of them, says nothing, and watches. Within ten minutes the shape of the problem is visible in one of four forms. The student cannot start, which points at tool selection. The student starts correctly and abandons the line halfway, which points at algebraic fluency. The student arrives at the right answer with two lines of working, which points at method marks. Or the student is fluent and slow, which points at exam timing rather than understanding. These four need four different terms of work, and guessing between them is how a term gets wasted.

Nothing in that list requires a classroom, which is why home classes suit this subject so well in Mumbai: the diagnosis is made from one student's page. The algebraic fluency case is the most common and the most misdiagnosed. A DP1 student who cannot simplify a rational expression at speed is not struggling with calculus, even though calculus is where the marks are disappearing. They are spending their working memory on the manipulation and have none left for the concept. Four weeks of deliberate algebra work, fifteen minutes at the start of every session, usually moves the calculus marks without the calculus ever being retaught. A good IB maths tutor in Vile Parle East will propose exactly that and explain why it looks like it is addressing the wrong topic.

The method-marks case is the fastest win available in this subject. The fix is behavioural rather than mathematical: the student is trained to write the governing statement before computing, so the derivative appears on the page before the substitution does. Most students resist this for two weeks because it feels slower, and then stop resisting when a marked paper comes back with the same answers and a higher mark. That single comparison is more persuasive than a term of being told.

The timing case is the one parents misread as carelessness. A student who can do every question but needs ninety minutes for a sixty-minute paper will produce a mark sheet full of arithmetic slips, because the last third was rushed. More content teaching makes that worse. The work is timed sections, then timed questions, then whole papers, with the clock visible. By the end of the first session a tutor should be able to tell you which of these four your child is, in plain words, and what the first four weeks will consist of. If the answer is more practice, nothing has been diagnosed.

  • Cannot start: a tool-selection problem, not a content gap
  • Starts and abandons: algebraic fluency is eating the working memory
  • Right answer, two lines: method marks, the fastest available win
  • Fluent but slow: timed sections and a visible clock, not more teaching
  • A first session that ends in more practice has diagnosed nothing

What a term of IB maths home tuition in Vile Parle East should change

At four weeks, ignore marks entirely and look at the page. The working should be longer than it was. There should be a line written before any number is computed. Your child should be able to name the topic they are weakest in using the syllabus words rather than saying maths is hard. And the set work should be attempted before the tutor arrives rather than during the first ten minutes of the session. If all four have happened and the mark has not moved, the match is working and you are early. If none has happened, the mark is irrelevant.

At one term, around twelve sessions, a school assessment should have moved or the reason should be specific and nameable. A term is long enough to rebuild algebraic fluency properly, or to install method discipline, or to get an exploration from a vague idea to a defensible draft. It is not long enough to do all three. A tutor who tells you at the end of a term that results are coming without naming what changed in the student's working has told you the answer.

At one examination cycle you can judge, and the honest version includes the cases where no amount of IB tuition fees in Vile Parle East buys the outcome. A student who does no mathematics between sessions will not be rescued by a third weekly slot, because the papers test unsupervised fluency and that is exactly what is missing. A student in DP2 on the wrong route needs a conversation with the school, not more hours. A student whose difficulty is attendance or anxiety needs that addressed first, and a competent tutor will say so rather than take the booking.

We do not guarantee grades, and the tutors who last longest on this platform are the ones who set a realistic target early and then describe each four weeks in advance. Our side is the match, the checks and a replacement when it is not working. The teaching your child gets at school and the work they do alone is the rest of it, and a page that implies otherwise is selling something nobody can deliver. The reliable signal of progress in mathematics is a student who can tell you where their own answer went wrong before they see the mark.

  • Four weeks: longer working, a method line before any computation
  • Four weeks: set work attempted before the tutor arrives
  • One term: rebuild fluency, or install method, or fix the exploration, not all three
  • One cycle: judge honestly, including whether the route was wrong
  • Progress looks like a student spotting their own error before the mark

Booking a maths home tutor in Vile Parle East, Mumbai

Have four things on the table for the first session and it will be a diagnosis instead of an introduction. The last two marked mathematics assessments, with the marks and the teacher's annotations left on them. The route and level in writing from the school, so nobody is guessing between AA and AI. The exploration brief and its internal deadline if your child is in DP1 or DP2. And the two evenings you can genuinely hold every week, because an arrangement built on a slot you cannot protect collapses in month two.

Expect the first session to be slightly uncomfortable. The tutor should put a real question in front of your child inside the first twenty minutes and then stay quiet. Parents who sit in sometimes find the silence alarming. It is the most useful part of the hour, because it is the only way to see where the thinking stops. By the end there should be two named topics, a reason for each and a description of the next four weeks that you could repeat to someone else.

Sessions two and three establish whether work happens between visits, and that single fact predicts the result of the whole arrangement more reliably than the tutor's credentials. Say something in week three if it is not happening rather than in month three. A tutor can design around a student who will not work alone, as long as they know in time to do it.

If the fit is wrong, tell us and we shortlist again without making it a negotiation. The common failure is not an incompetent tutor but a reasonable one who does not suit this student's particular problem, and a maths pairing that is wrong on temperament will not improve with time. Parents often arrive here after searching for the best IB tutor in Vile Parle East, and a more useful search names the route, the level and the evening. A home tutor for Mathematics Mumbai parents keep for two years is almost always one who got the diagnosis right in week one.

  • Bring two marked assessments with the annotations still on them
  • Get the route and level in writing from the school first
  • Bring the exploration brief and its internal school deadline
  • Expect silence in the first twenty minutes; it is the diagnosis
  • Flag missing between-session work in week three, not month three
FAQs

Vile Parle East tutoring — questions parents ask

My son gets the right answers but loses marks. What is an IB maths tutor meant to do about that?+

Train him to write the governing statement before computing anything, so the method is on the page before the number is. Mark schemes award marks for the derivative, the substitution and the conclusion separately, so a correct final value with two lines of working collects a fraction of what was available. The fix is behavioural rather than mathematical and takes about four weeks, most of which is the student resisting because it feels slower. The argument that ends the resistance is a marked paper showing the same answers and a higher total. This is the cheapest recovery available in the subject.

Should my daughter take Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation?+

Ask the school which they currently have her down for, then decide whether the difficulty is route fit or preparation. Analysis and Approaches rewards algebraic manipulation, abstraction and justified steps. Applications and Interpretation rewards reading a context, choosing a tool and interpreting the output. A student who was quick and accurate in the Middle Years Programme often assumes AA suits them and then meets formal proof, which is a different skill. Four weeks of focused algebra work tells you which problem you actually have. In DP1 a switch is manageable; in DP2 the realistic plan is to make the current route work.

Can a maths tutor travel to Vile Parle East on a weekday evening from Andheri East?+

Yes, and Andheri East is one of the two reliable sources for this suburb, particularly for tutors living near Metro Line 1 or north of the Chakala junction. Santacruz East is marginally better because the approach stays on the same side of the Western Express Highway with no crossing involved. BKC is the one to be careful with: it has excellent Diploma mathematics tutors and a 6pm commute that no one should promise to repeat every week for a term, so we usually match BKC tutors here to weekend slots instead.

Why do maths sessions here never happen before school?+

Because Vile Parle East sits between the airport and the Western Express Highway, and the 8am to 10am window is when both are at their worst simultaneously. Tutors in this pocket of the Western Suburbs decline it outright, so nearly every lesson runs after 5pm. It is worth knowing before you build a plan around an early slot, because the alternative is a fortnight of polite refusals. The workable options are weekday evenings from 5pm onward or a weekend morning, which is the most contested slot in the suburb and the first one to disappear in December.

Does the mathematical exploration need its own tutoring, or is it part of normal sessions?+

It needs dedicated time, and the useful time is at the start rather than near the deadline. Most exploration marks are lost structurally: a topic with no real mathematics in it, a topic too large to finish, personal engagement asserted rather than demonstrated, reflection written in the final week. Reading the published criteria with the student before the topic is fixed changes the band more than any content teaching. A tutor may teach the criteria and mark a practice piece on a different topic. A tutor may never write or edit the submitted document, and a tutor who offers to is a risk to the entry.

How many sessions a week does Higher Level maths actually need?+

Two home tuition sessions a week, with real work set in between, is what holds for a full term in most Higher Level cases across Mumbai. One session a week supports a student who is broadly secure and slipping in one topic area. Three or more usually backfires, because the student stops doing mathematics alone and the papers test exactly that unsupervised fluency. The exception is a short burst around the exploration deadline or the trial examinations, where a temporary third session for three or four weeks is reasonable. Start at two, review the page at four weeks, and add only against a named deadline.

What makes one maths tutor's rate higher than another's?+

Level and route first, because Higher Level Analysis and Approaches carries marking work outside the session and far fewer tutors can do it well. Scarcity second, which in this subject is less severe than in Music or Global Politics but still real at HL AA. Travel distance third, since an hour lost crossing the city is an hour that cannot be taught. Session length fourth, because preparation does not shrink with a shorter lesson. Frequency fifth, as a standing twice-weekly booking for a term differs commercially from scattered April revision. Ask what the rate includes before comparing two numbers.

Our building needs a visitor entry approved each time. How do we handle a weekly maths slot?+

Register the tutor with the building office as a recurring weekly visitor in the first week, rather than clearing them at the gate every time. Most managed buildings in Vile Parle East will issue a standing entry for a named visitor once a resident confirms it, and some ask for a copy of photo identification. Do it before session two, or your tutor spends ten minutes a week at the gate while someone calls your flat, and that time comes out of the lesson. If approval runs through an app, make sure more than one adult at home can approve it.

Is online tuition workable for IB Mathematics, or only for essay subjects?+

It works for mathematics only with the right setup, and fails badly without it. The tutor must be able to see and annotate the student's actual working, which means a document camera, a tablet with a stylus, or a shared whiteboard both people can write on. Audio plus a screen share is not enough for this subject, and when it fails it tends to look like the student's fault. With proper annotation tools, online is genuinely good for reviewing a paper the student has already attempted and for reaching a Higher Level specialist who does not live within travelling distance.

My child was strong in MYP maths and is struggling in DP1. Is that normal?+

It is one of the most common reasons parents in Mumbai start searching in late October. Criterion-based MYP marking does not clearly signal whether a student is strong because they are fast and accurate or because they understand structure, and the Diploma Programme separates those two very quickly. A student who relied on speed meets formal proof and unfamiliar multi-step problems and has no strategy for either. It is usually a preparation and method problem rather than an ability problem, and it responds well to one term of deliberate algebra and tool-selection work started while the content is still being taught.

We are three months from the final papers. Is it too late to start?+

Not too late to recover marks, but the plan has to change shape. Three months out, the work is timed papers marked against the real scheme rather than retaught content, because reteaching two years of material in twelve weeks is not possible and attempting it wastes the time. The recoverable marks at that stage are method marks, arithmetic slips caused by rushing, and question selection on the longer papers. Those are worth having. What nobody can do in three months is build fluency that was never there, and a tutor who says otherwise is selling you the timeline you want.

The tutor is competent but my daughter has gone quiet in sessions. What should I do?+

Raise it the same week, and describe the behaviour rather than diagnosing it. In mathematics this usually means the tutor is demonstrating on their own paper while the student watches, which feels productive and teaches very little. The fix is to insist the pen stays with the student for most of the session, with the tutor asking rather than showing. If nothing changes in two weeks, it is a temperament mismatch and not a competence problem, and we will shortlist again. A quiet student in a maths session is almost always a student who has stopped being asked to try.
