IB & IGCSE Tutors for Witty International School Students

If you want an IB or IGCSE home tutor for Witty International School students in Mumbai, start with the campus. Witty runs Malad and Chembur campuses on opposite sides of the city, and the tutor who fits one rarely covers the other. IB Gram is an independent platform and is not affiliated with Witty International School.

How does IB Gram shortlist an IB and IGCSE home tutor in Mumbai for a Witty family?

We shortlist on campus first, subject second and schedule third. Tell us which Witty International School campus your child attends, Malad or Chembur, and the shortlist changes on the spot, because an IB and IGCSE home tutor in Mumbai who can hold a Tuesday evening slot in Malad West is almost never the same person who can hold one in Chembur. The two campuses sit on opposite sides of the city with no direct rail link between them, and nobody commutes across that gap for a weekly ninety minute lesson.

After the campus, we want the year group, the board and the two or three subjects that are genuinely slipping, not a general request for help. An IB and IGCSE tutor for Witty International School students in Mumbai is matched against named components, so the useful information is which paper the marks are being lost on. Parents ask us for all IB and IGCSE subjects spanning IGCSE Years 9-11 with a tutor in Mumbai who can hold both boards at once, and that is possible in Maths and the sciences more often than it is in languages or the arts.

The profiles you get back name the syllabus and the components the tutor has taught rather than a list of adjectives. You pick one, book a paid diagnostic session at home, and then decide. We do not ask for a term of sessions up front, because the only honest basis for committing is the diagnostic itself. If the family is mid-move between campuses, we say so in the brief we send the tutor, and the shortlist leans towards tutors who have taken over a part finished year before. That is a different skill from starting a student clean in June.

  • 1. Send the campus, year group, board and the subjects actually slipping
  • 2. We filter to tutors already travelling your side of Mumbai
  • 3. You get two or three profiles naming syllabus and components taught
  • 4. You book one paid diagnostic session at home, then decide
  • 5. Tutor and family agree a six week plan reviewed against past paper marks

The IGCSE and IB pathways Witty families in Mumbai are choosing between

Witty International School publicly offers both an IGCSE pathway and an International Baccalaureate (IB) pathway across its Malad and Chembur campuses. That is the whole of what we will claim about the school, and it is enough to explain the decision in front of you. The International General Certificate of Secondary Education, run by Cambridge International Education, is a two year programme usually taught across Years 9 to 11 and assessed by terminal papers in a May or June or an October or November series. The IB side runs the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and then the Diploma Programme (DP), assessed continuously against published criteria as well as by final examinations.

The two systems reward different habits, and this matters more than any league table. IGCSE rewards a student who can answer a tightly worded question in the way the mark scheme expects, repeatedly, under time pressure. The Diploma Programme rewards a student who can plan, draft, redraft and justify, because the Internal Assessment (IA), the Extended Essay (EE) and Theory of Knowledge (TOK) are all extended pieces with staged deadlines. A child who thrives on a weekly past paper drill can struggle badly with a Chemistry IA, and the reverse is just as common.

For families at Witty, the practical question is usually whether to take Extended or Core papers at IGCSE and, two years later, which three subjects go to Higher Level (HL). We do not advise on that in isolation. A tutor who has marked the Extended paper can tell you what the Extended grade thresholds actually demand of a borderline student, which is a far more useful input than a general opinion about ambition. IB Gram is an independent platform and is not affiliated with Witty International School, so nothing we say here reflects the school's own guidance to you.

  • IGCSE runs Years 9-11 with terminal papers in two annual series
  • MYP assesses against four published criteria per subject, continuously
  • Diploma Programme adds the IA, Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge
  • Core versus Extended at IGCSE caps the top grade available
  • Three Higher Level subjects carry the heaviest written workload in DP

Subject choice, Core or Extended, HL or SL: what actually transfers across a campus move

Across all IB and IGCSE subjects, roughly half of what a tutor builds with a student transfers cleanly to a new tutor and roughly half does not. Knowing which half is which is the difference between losing a fortnight and losing a term. Content knowledge transfers. A student who understands moles and limiting reagents understands them in Chembur exactly as she did in Malad. Technique on a specific paper transfers, because the paper does not change. A written error log transfers, if one exists. What does not transfer is anything held in a particular teacher's head about a particular rubric.

The internal assessments are where this bites. An IGCSE coursework component, a Global Perspectives team project, an MYP Criterion C investigation or a DP Internal Assessment all have an approved topic, a drafting history and a marker who has already given feedback once. A new tutor who restarts that conversation costs the student weeks of real work. A new tutor who reads the existing drafts and the feedback already received can pick up mid paragraph. So the first thing we ask for on a handover is not the report card, it is the last marked draft with the comments still on it.

Subject by subject, the clean transfers are Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Economics, where the skill ladder is explicit and a diagnostic reveals the gap in one session. The ones that need a genuinely fresh diagnostic are English Language and Literature, Business Management and any second language, because so much of the mark depends on a style of response the previous tutor was coaching towards. An IB and IGCSE private tutor in Mumbai taking over a Language A course mid-year should expect to spend the first two sessions reading, not teaching.

  • Clean transfers: Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Economics, where the skill ladder is explicit
  • Fresh diagnostic needed: Language A, Business Management, any second language
  • Bring the last marked draft with the marker's comments still on it
  • Never restart an approved IA topic to suit a new tutor's preference
  • Core or Extended entry should be confirmed before any paper practice begins

Malad, Chembur and the rest of Mumbai we cover for home tuition

Finding an IB and IGCSE home tutor for Witty International School students in Mumbai is less about the city than about one side of it. The Malad campus sits in the Western Suburbs, on the Western Line and the Link Road, drawing families from Malad West, Malad East, Goregaon, Kandivali and Borivali. The Chembur campus sits in the Eastern Suburbs, reached by the Harbour and Central lines, the Santacruz-Chembur Link Road (SCLR) and the Eastern Freeway, drawing families from Chembur, Govandi, Kurla, Wadala and Mulund. Malad station and Chembur station are on different railway systems entirely, and the only sensible road crossing is the SCLR.

That is why we match within a side. In the Western Suburbs we place tutors along the line, Khar West to Santacruz to Goregaon to Malad West to Malad East to Kandivali, supported by Metro Lines 2A and 7 running above the Link Road corridor and Metro Line 1 cutting east from Versova through Andheri to Ghatkopar. In the Central Suburbs, Powai, Chandivali, Kurla and Ghatkopar hang off the Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road (JVLR) and the Eastern Express Highway. In the Eastern Suburbs, Chembur, Govandi, Wadala and Mulund share the Harbour and Central lines and the Eastern Freeway, which puts South Mumbai closer to Chembur than the map suggests.

We also cover the rest of Mumbai, Maharashtra on the same logic. In South Mumbai we match inside the island, Colaba, Worli, Fort and Babulnath, because an evening run down Peddar Road undoes any time the Coastal Road saved. Navi Mumbai is matched node to node across Vashi, Nerul, Belapur and Kharghar along Palm Beach Road, with the Atal Setu and the Bandra-Worli Sea Link now making a few cross harbour matches viable where they never were. Thane tutors cover Thane, from Pokhran Road out along Ghodbunder Road to Majiwada and Kasarvadavali, and only occasionally cross to Mulund.

  • Western Suburbs: Malad West, Malad East, Goregaon, Kandivali, Khar West, Santacruz
  • Eastern Suburbs: Chembur, Govandi, Wadala, Mulund, served by the Eastern Freeway
  • Central Suburbs: Powai, Chandivali, Kurla, Ghatkopar, reached by JVLR and the SCLR
  • South Mumbai: Colaba, Worli, Fort, Babulnath, matched inside the island
  • Navi Mumbai nodes Vashi, Nerul, Belapur, Kharghar and Thane along Ghodbunder Road

What the Witty International School calendar does to a Mumbai family's year

IB Gram is an independent platform and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to Witty International School in any way. We have no access to its staff, its materials, its mark schemes or its reports, and we will not pretend otherwise. What we do know is the shape of the IGCSE and IB year as it is published by Cambridge International Education and the International Baccalaureate, and that shape is the same for every school in Mumbai running these programmes. It is what produces the pressure points below.

The academic year opens in June, and for the first two months almost nothing is urgent, which is exactly when a tutor should be hired and almost nobody does. October and November bring the first serious internal assessments on both pathways, and for Diploma Programme students in their second year, several IA deadlines land in the same fortnight. January and February are the hardest stretch: IGCSE coursework is being finalised while final mocks run, and DP students are redrafting the Extended Essay against a hard school deadline. March through June is the examination window itself, first the IB written papers and then the IGCSE May or June series.

Families at Witty also sit inside a cluster of other Cambridge and IB schools that set the local tutoring market, and knowing them helps you read availability. Billabong High International School has a Malad presence, Thakur International School sits in Kandivali East, and on the eastern side JBCN International School, Chembur runs IB and IGCSE within a few kilometres of the Witty Chembur campus, with NES International School in Mulund West further north. None of these schools has any relationship with IB Gram. We name them only because a tutor who already teaches two students at a nearby school is a tutor with a realistic evening route.

  • June to September is the quiet window and the right time to start
  • October and November: first internal assessments, clustered DP IA deadlines
  • January and February: IGCSE coursework finalised while final mocks run
  • March to June: IB written papers, then the IGCSE May or June series
  • A campus move in October or January costs roughly twice what a June move costs

Home tuition, online or hybrid when you move from Malad to Chembur?

Home tuition is the default and it should be. For a Witty student in Years 9 to 11, a tutor at the dining table with the student's own past paper scripts, her own calculator and her own annotated textbook in front of them is worth more than any screen share. The tutor sees the working, sees the crossings out, sees which question she skipped and came back to. We arrange IB and IGCSE home tuition in Mumbai as the lead service on both sides of the city, with standing weekly slots cleared through the society gate once rather than negotiated every week.

Online earns its place in two specific situations. The first is a scarce subject: if your child needs Higher Level Further Mathematics, Design Technology or a less common second language, an IB and IGCSE online tutor in Mumbai, or one outside the city altogether, may simply be the only person qualified. The second is traffic. A 7pm slot that requires a tutor to cross the SCLR or run north along the Western Express Highway will be cancelled or shortened more often than either side admits, and an online session that actually happens beats a home session that keeps slipping.

Hybrid is the answer to the specific problem this page is about. When a family moves from the Malad campus to the Chembur campus mid-year, the clean solution is not to replace the tutor on moving day. It is to keep the existing tutor online for three or four weeks while a local tutor starts in person on the eastern side, with both working from the same written plan. The outgoing tutor holds continuity on the IA or coursework; the incoming tutor runs the fresh diagnostic and takes the paper technique. After a month, one of them steps back. Running all IB and IGCSE subjects in home classes across Mumbai works well, but during a handover the overlap is the point.

  • Home tuition first: the tutor reads the actual script, not a photograph
  • Online for scarce subjects and for slots that traffic would otherwise kill
  • Hybrid during a handover: outgoing tutor online, incoming tutor in person
  • A standing weekly slot survives; a rescheduled slot quietly disappears
  • Honest trade-off: online loses roughly the first ten minutes of every session

How are tutors verified, and what should a Mumbai parent check themselves?

Every IB and IGCSE tutor for Witty International School students in Mumbai on our panel has had identity and qualification documents checked, has been asked component level questions about the syllabus they claim to teach, and has given contactable references from previous families. That is what verification means here, and it is deliberately narrow. We check that a person is who they say they are and has taught what they say they have taught. We do not and cannot verify anything about any school, including Witty International School, with which IB Gram is not affiliated.

What we cannot check is fit, and fit is where most placements fail. So there are three things worth doing yourself, and they take ten minutes. Ask the tutor which syllabus code they are teaching to and whether it changes for the next series. Ask them to talk through one question from your child's last marked paper, with the paper in front of them. Then ask what they will be able to tell you after four weeks that they cannot tell you now. A tutor who answers all three concretely is a tutor who has done this before.

On a handover specifically, add a fourth question: what will you want from the previous tutor? The right answer is specific. The last marked draft, the error log, the past paper scores broken down by component, the IA stage and the school's own internal deadlines. A tutor who says they prefer to start fresh is telling you they intend to re-teach ground your child has already covered, and in January that is a term you do not have. Ask for the handover note in writing before the first session, not after.

  • Identity, qualification and component level syllabus knowledge checked before listing
  • Contactable references from previous Mumbai families, not testimonial quotes
  • Ask which syllabus code applies and whether it changes next series
  • Ask the tutor to work one question from your child's last marked paper
  • On a handover, insist on the written note before the first session

Moving campus mid-year in Mumbai: the handover that decides whether the term holds

Here is the fact that shapes everything on this page. Malad and Chembur are not two neighbourhoods, they are two cities for the purpose of a weekly lesson. Malad is Western Line and Link Road. Chembur is Harbour Line, Central Line, the SCLR and the Eastern Freeway. There is no direct train between them; you change at Dadar or you cross by road. A tutor who serves one campus almost never serves the other, so a family that moves from one to the other is not changing address, it is changing tutoring markets. When that happens in October or January, the instinct is to go shopping for a better tutor. That instinct is wrong. The variable that decides whether the term holds is the quality of the handover, not the quality of the second tutor.

Take a concrete case. A Year 11 student is sitting IGCSE Physics and losing marks on Paper 4, the Extended written paper. Her Malad tutor has worked out, over six weeks, exactly what is wrong: given a velocity time graph and asked for the total distance travelled and then the acceleration over a named interval, she sets up the area under the graph correctly and reads the gradient correctly, then loses the final mark because the axis is in kilometres per hour and the answer is wanted in metres per second squared. Her physics is sound. Her multi step unit conversion is not. That single sentence, written down, is the whole value of six weeks of work.

If that sentence travels to the Chembur tutor, the second IB and IGCSE tutor for Witty International School students in Mumbai starts on Paper 4 unit conversion drills in session one and the student loses nothing. If it does not travel, the new tutor runs her own diagnostic, sees weak Paper 4 marks, and reasonably concludes that kinematics needs re-teaching. Three weeks go on ground she already holds, and the actual defect is still there in February. Meanwhile her Chemistry IA, with an approved research question and one round of feedback already received, must not be reopened at all; the new tutor's job there is to read and continue.

So the questions to ask when you relocate across Mumbai are not about credentials. They are: which of my child's subjects transfer cleanly and can be picked up at the point they were left, which need a fresh diagnostic because the mark depends on a coached style of response, what is written down that the next tutor can read, and who is paying for the overlap weeks. Settle those four and the second tutor can be merely good. Leave them unsettled and the best IB and IGCSE tutor in Mumbai cannot save the term, because he will spend it rediscovering what somebody already knew.

  • No direct rail link: Malad is Western Line, Chembur is Harbour and Central
  • A handover note beats a better tutor, every time, mid-year
  • Transfers cleanly: content knowledge, paper technique, a written error log
  • Needs fresh diagnostic: anything marked against a coached style of response
  • Never reopen an IA whose research question is already approved
  • Budget three or four overlap weeks rather than a clean break

What progress looks like at four weeks, one term and one exam cycle

At four weeks you should not expect a mark to move, and a tutor who promises one is not being straight with you. What you should expect is evidence of diagnosis: a written list of the specific things going wrong, a changed homework pattern, and your child able to tell you what she is working on in component terms rather than saying the subject name. If none of that exists after four weeks, the placement is not working and you should say so rather than wait politely for the term to end.

At one term, marks should move at component level on past papers taken under timed conditions. Not the final grade necessarily, but the specific paper or criterion that was identified in week one. This is why the week one diagnostic matters so much: without it there is no baseline, and without a baseline any conversation about progress becomes a conversation about feelings. At one full examination cycle, a grade change is a reasonable thing to discuss. Even then, IB Gram does not guarantee grades, and no tutor who has taught these boards honestly would.

When a placement is not working, tell us in writing and we replace the tutor. There is no argument and no notice period beyond the sessions already booked. The outgoing tutor writes the handover note as a condition of the placement, and the incoming tutor reads it before the first session, which is the same discipline this page argues for in a campus move. We also say no sometimes. If a student is three grades below target with eight weeks to the series, we will tell you what is achievable in eight weeks rather than sell you a package. IB Gram is an independent platform, not affiliated with Witty International School or any other school named on this page, and we do not guarantee results.

  • Four weeks: a written diagnosis and a changed homework pattern, not marks
  • One term: measurable movement on the component identified in week one
  • One exam cycle: a grade conversation, still without any guarantee
  • Replacement on written request, with a handover note from the outgoing tutor
  • We will tell you when a target is not reachable in the time left

Starting home tuition in Mumbai after a campus move: what to prepare

Prepare five things and the first session is worth paying for. The most recent school report. The last two marked papers or drafts with the marker's comments still on them, which matters more than the report. The syllabus code for each subject, because Cambridge and the International Baccalaureate both revise specifications and the wrong code means the wrong past papers. The current stage of any coursework or Internal Assessment, including whether the topic is approved. And the school's own internal deadlines for the next term, which are the deadlines that actually bind.

The first session is a diagnostic, not a lesson, and you should want it that way. The tutor gives timed questions from the relevant paper, watches how your child works rather than whether she gets the answer, and writes down what is wrong in component terms. You get that in writing within a day or two. From there the plan covers six weeks, names the component being targeted, and says how it will be measured. A home tutor for all IB and IGCSE subjects in Mumbai cannot fix four subjects at once, so the plan will usually pick two.

If you are mid-move between the Malad and Chembur campuses, say so in your first message. We will shortlist on the side of Mumbai you are moving to, not the side you are leaving, and we will ask whether the outgoing tutor can stay online for three or four weeks of overlap. If there was no previous tutor, that is fine too; we simply build the baseline from the marked scripts instead of from a handover note. Either way the first session covers the same ground, and neither route involves us claiming any connection to your child's school.

  • Bring the report, but bring the last two marked scripts first
  • Confirm the syllabus code for every subject before any past paper work
  • State the coursework or IA stage, including whether the topic is approved
  • Share the school's internal deadlines for the coming term
  • Say if you are mid-move so we shortlist the correct side of the city
FAQs

Mumbai tutoring — questions parents ask

Is IB Gram connected to Witty International School in any way?+

No. IB Gram is an independent tutor matching platform and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to Witty International School. We have no access to the school's staff, teaching materials, internal mark schemes or student reports, and no tutor on our panel is presented as a current or former member of its faculty. What we work from is public information, that the school runs campuses in Malad and Chembur offering IGCSE and IB pathways, plus the published Cambridge International Education and International Baccalaureate specifications that every school on these boards follows. If you want the school's own view on subject choice, ask the school.

We are moving from the Malad campus to the Chembur campus in November. Do we have to change tutors?+

Almost certainly yes for the in person sessions, and that is a scheduling fact rather than a judgement on your tutor. Malad sits on the Western Line and the Link Road; Chembur sits on the Harbour and Central lines with the SCLR and the Eastern Freeway. There is no direct train, so a tutor crossing for a weekday evening slot will start cancelling within a month. What you should not do is simply swap one tutor for another. Keep the Malad tutor online for three or four weeks of overlap while a Chembur based tutor starts in person, both working from one written plan.

What exactly should a handover note contain?+

Five things, and it should fit on one page. First, the specific defect in component terms, for example marks lost on unit conversion in multi step IGCSE Physics Paper 4 questions rather than weak at Physics. Second, past paper scores broken down by paper or criterion, with dates. Third, the stage of any coursework or Internal Assessment, including whether the research question is approved and what feedback has already been given. Fourth, what has been tried and did not work. Fifth, the school's internal deadlines for the coming term. Ask for it in writing before the new tutor's first session, not afterwards.

Which subjects transfer cleanly to a new tutor and which do not?+

Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Economics transfer cleanly because the skill ladder is explicit and a single diagnostic session exposes the gap. A new tutor can pick these up at the exact point the previous one left off. English Language and Literature, Business Management and second languages need a genuinely fresh diagnostic, because a large part of the mark depends on a style of response the previous tutor was coaching towards, and two competent tutors can coach towards different styles. Internal assessments sit in their own category: never reopen an approved topic. The new tutor reads the existing drafts and the marker's comments, then continues from there.

Will a tutor actually travel to our building in Malad West on a weekday evening?+

Yes, if we match a tutor who already works that corridor, and no reliably if we do not. This is why we filter by side of the city before anything else. A tutor living or teaching along the Western Line between Goregaon, Malad West, Malad East and Kandivali, with Metro Lines 2A and 7 above the Link Road as a fallback, will hold a 6.30pm or 7pm slot for a full term. A tutor coming from Chembur or Powai across the SCLR will manage it for a few weeks and then start asking to move the session. Book the corridor, not the resume.

Our society in Chembur requires a gate pass for every visitor. How does that work?+

Clear it once, as a standing weekly entry, rather than per visit. Most Mumbai societies will register a regular tutor for a fixed day and time if a resident requests it in writing at the office, and that single step removes the most common cause of a lost fifteen minutes. We ask tutors to carry photo identification to every session regardless. Tell us at the matching stage if your building requires prior approval for each visitor or restricts entry after a certain hour, because in Chembur, Govandi and Kurla that varies considerably between complexes and it changes which evening slots are realistic for your family.

What do IB and IGCSE tuition fees in Mumbai depend on?+

Five factors, and we will not quote a number because any figure here would be invented. Board and level: Diploma Programme Higher Level costs more than IGCSE Core. Subject scarcity: Higher Level Further Mathematics or a less common language has far fewer qualified teachers in the city than Maths or Biology. Travel distance and timing, since a tutor crossing the SCLR in the evening peak is spending time you are effectively paying for. Session length and frequency. And whether you need overlap weeks during a handover, which temporarily means two tutors. Ask for the rate per session and what happens to a cancelled session before you commit.

Does online tutoring really work for an IGCSE science practical paper?+

For the alternative to practical and practical based written papers, yes, with one condition: the student must have the paper printed and in front of her. These components test whether a student can read a results table, spot the anomalous reading, describe a control variable and evaluate a method, and all of that can be taught over a screen share. What does not work online is diagnosing handwriting, working layout and the order in which a student attacks a paper, which is exactly what the first diagnostic session is for. That is a strong argument for running the diagnostic at home even when the weekly sessions will be online.

What happens if the tutor is not working out after three sessions?+

Tell us in writing and we replace them, with no argument and no notice period beyond sessions already booked. Three sessions is a reasonable point to judge: by then you should have a written diagnosis, a changed homework pattern and a child who can describe what she is working on in component terms. The outgoing tutor writes a handover note as a condition of the placement, so the replacement does not start from zero. Say what specifically did not work, whether it was the explanation, the pace, the timing or simply the fit, because that is what lets us match differently rather than just match again.

There has been no visible progress after a month. What should we do?+

Ask for the baseline and compare against it, rather than relying on impressions. At four weeks a mark should not necessarily have moved, so the question is whether the diagnosis exists and is specific. If the tutor can show you the week one timed paper, the written list of defects and this week's work targeting one of them, the placement is on track and you should give it a term. If there is no baseline paper and no written list, that is the actual problem, and no amount of extra sessions fixes it. Request a diagnostic in writing or ask us for a replacement.

Can one tutor cover both IGCSE and IB for two children in the same family?+

Often in Maths and the sciences, rarely in languages and the arts. The content overlap between IGCSE Extended Maths and Diploma Programme Mathematics Analysis and Approaches at Standard Level is real, and a tutor who teaches both routinely can run back to back sessions in one visit, which is also the cheapest way to buy two children's tuition. Where it breaks down is the Internal Assessment and Extended Essay supervision, which demands familiarity with the specific criteria and the moderation culture around them. We will tell you honestly when two tutors are the better answer rather than stretch one across both boards.

Do you cover Govandi and Kurla, or only the larger suburbs?+

Yes to both, and they matter specifically for the Chembur campus. Govandi sits on the Harbour Line between Chembur and Mankhurd, and Kurla is the Central Line junction where the SCLR meets the Eastern Express Highway, which makes both of them workable for tutors already teaching in Chembur or Wadala. The honest caveat is subject depth: for a scarce Higher Level subject the local pool in these areas is thinner than in Powai or Bandra, and an online match may be the realistic option. For mainstream IGCSE and Diploma Programme subjects, a home tutor in Govandi or Kurla is straightforward to arrange.

Find your Mumbai tutor

Send us the campus, the year group, the board and the two or three subjects losing marks, and say whether you are mid-move between Malad and Chembur. Within a working day you get two or three tutor profiles that name the syllabus and components each has taught, with the side of Mumbai they actually travel. You pick one, book a paid diagnostic at home, and get the written findings before committing to anything longer.
