How does IB Gram match a Dhirubhai Ambani International School family with a tutor in Mumbai?

The request that produces a good match is a specific one. A parent writing in from Bandra Kurla Complex rarely needs a Maths tutor in the abstract. They need someone for a Diploma Programme year one student taking Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, who lost the thread somewhere in differentiation and has an Internal Assessment exploration proposal due before the school's own internal cut-off. Give us the year group, the exact subject and level, the component that is slipping, and the two evening slots you can genuinely hold every week. That paragraph is worth more than any enquiry form.

From there the shortlist is close to mechanical. We filter the Mumbai tutor pool by syllabus rather than by board label, because Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level and Applications and Interpretation at Standard Level are different jobs, and a teacher who is strong at one can be ordinary at the other. We then filter by geography, because a tutor who has to cross the Western Express Highway at six in the evening will start cancelling by the third week of the monsoon. What survives both filters is a handful of names, not a directory.

Each profile is deliberately short: what they teach, how many years they have taught the Diploma Programme, which examination sessions they have prepared students for, where they travel from, and what they charge per session. You pick one and take a paid trial. The trial is a real lesson on real material, not a sales call, and the tutor should arrive having read whatever you sent about the problem. If it does not land, say so and we re-shortlist from the same brief. There is no contract and no notice period to serve.

Most families around Bandra Kurla Complex get a usable shortlist within a day or two. It is faster for mainstream Diploma Programme subjects and slower for the scarce ones, where the pool across the whole of Mumbai is genuinely small. Scarcity is the honest constraint here: for Higher Level Further Mathematics, Higher Level Music or a less common Language A, you are waiting for the right person rather than the next available one, and we will say so rather than send a near-miss.

  • 1. Send year group, subjects, levels and the weekday evening slots you can hold
  • 2. We shortlist tutors who have taught that exact syllabus and component
  • 3. You read short profiles: experience, travel origin, rate, weekly availability
  • 4. Paid trial lesson at your home in BKC, or online if faster
  • 5. Continue, or ask us to re-shortlist against the same written brief

The IGCSE and IB Diploma pathway inside one Mumbai school

A family here deals with two assessment systems under one roof, and the switch between them is where most of the trouble starts. Cambridge IGCSE, taken across Years 9 to 11, is a terminal system. The grade comes from papers written at the end, in the May/June or October/November series, and a student who gets organised six weeks out can repair a mediocre year. Subjects are tiered: Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 splits into Core and Extended, and the Extended tier is the one that keeps Higher Level Mathematics open in the Diploma Programme two years later.

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) works the other way round. A student takes six subjects, three at Higher Level (HL) and three at Standard Level (SL), plus the core: Theory of Knowledge (TOK), the Extended Essay (EE) and Creativity, Activity, Service. Each subject is graded 1 to 7, the core contributes up to three bonus points, and 45 is the ceiling. A meaningful share of every subject grade is fixed long before the May examinations, in Internal Assessment (IA) work drafted in year one and finished in year two. No amount of revision repairs an IA that went in during January.

That structural difference is the real content of the Year 11 to Diploma Programme year one transition, and it catches strong students hardest. A student who scored well at IGCSE by revising late walks into DP1 with the same habit intact, then discovers in February that the Extended Essay supervisor wants a research question, the Theory of Knowledge teacher wants an exhibition commentary, and the Physics teacher wants a research design, all inside a fortnight. What is being examined at that point is scheduling at least as much as subject knowledge.

Tutoring across that join is therefore less about teaching new content than about changing how a student works. Useful support in Year 11 keeps the Extended tier and Cambridge IGCSE Additional Mathematics 0606 on the table, because dropping either quietly closes doors at Higher Level. Useful support in DP1 gets the first Internal Assessment draft finished early, which buys room for everything that lands afterwards. Families who treat the two years as one continuous pathway, rather than two separate problems, spend far less on tuition overall.

  • IGCSE Years 9-11: terminal papers, Core and Extended tiers, two sittings a year
  • Diploma Programme: six subjects, three Higher Level, three Standard Level, 45 points maximum
  • Core: Theory of Knowledge, Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service
  • Internal Assessment marks are locked in before the May session even begins
  • Extended tier IGCSE Mathematics keeps Higher Level Analysis and Approaches available

Subject choice, Higher Level decisions and the internal assessment behind each one

Every Diploma Programme subject carries its own piece of internally assessed coursework, and those pieces are the quiet reason families call for a tutor. The sciences share one format: a single scientific investigation, around ten hours of work, marked on research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation, and worth a fifth of the subject grade. Mathematics, in both Analysis and Approaches and Applications and Interpretation, carries an exploration marked on presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and use of mathematics. Neither is rescued by last-minute effort, because both are graded on the thinking visible on the page.

The humanities and languages run on different clocks. History requires a historical investigation of roughly 2,200 words with an evaluation of sources section that most students underweight. Economics takes three commentaries of around 800 words, each pinned to a real news article and a different part of the syllabus. Language A students sit Paper 1 as guided textual analysis and Paper 2 as a comparative essay, and face an individual oral built on a global issue and two chosen texts, with an additional essay at Higher Level. Business Management, Psychology, Computer Science and Visual Arts each add their own coursework shape.

The IGCSE side is more familiar to most parents, but the choices still matter. Mathematics 0580 Extended, Additional Mathematics 0606, Physics 0625, Chemistry 0620, Biology 0610, First Language English 0500, Economics 0455, Business Studies 0450 and Computer Science 0478 are the usual spine, with Coordinated Sciences 0654 taken by students who do not intend to carry three separate sciences. A Year 10 student who picks Core Mathematics because the Extended paper looks frightening may be making a Diploma Programme decision eighteen months before realising it.

A family wanting all IB and IGCSE subjects from one tutor in Mumbai should expect that to hold through Year 10 and break in DP1. A request for all IB and IGCSE subjects across IGCSE Years 9-11 tutoring in Mumbai is realistic, because the content is still broad and shallow. The same request at Higher Level is not. The honest answer at Diploma Programme level is usually two specialists, sometimes three, and a parent who insists on one generalist is buying thin coverage in half the timetable.

  • Sciences: one scientific investigation, roughly ten hours, a fifth of the grade
  • Mathematics exploration marked on engagement, reflection and genuine use of mathematics
  • History investigation near 2,200 words; Economics three commentaries near 800 words each
  • IGCSE spine: 0580 Extended, 0606, 0625, 0620, 0610, 0500, 0455
  • Core versus Extended at Year 10 quietly decides Higher Level options later

Home tuition across BKC, Bandra East, Santacruz East and the rest of Mumbai

Most families at a Bandra Kurla Complex school live within a short radius of it: BKC itself, Bandra East around Kalanagar and the Government Colony side, Santacruz East towards Kalina and the university campus, and then Bandra West and Khar across the tracks. An IB and IGCSE home tutor for Dhirubhai Ambani International School students in Mumbai will usually be travelling within that ring rather than across the city. Bandra station sits on the Western and Harbour lines and is the practical arrival point for a tutor coming from the north or the south, while Metro Line 3 has put BKC within a predictable ride of the island city for the first time.

Beyond that ring, the city sorts itself into corridors. In South Mumbai we match within the island, from Colaba and Cuffe Parade up through Worli and Peddar Road, because eight kilometres at seven in the evening is still forty minutes. The Western Suburbs run along the Western Line and the Western Express Highway, so Khar, Santacruz West, Juhu and Andheri West match easily with one another and painfully across the highway. The Bandra-Worli Sea Link and the Coastal Road make the Worli crossing workable in a way the Mahim causeway never was.

In the Central Suburbs, Powai and Chandivali hang off JVLR with no station of their own, so tutors reach them by road from Andheri East, Kanjurmarg or Ghatkopar on Metro Line 1. The Eastern Suburbs run from Chembur and Govandi up through Vikhroli and Bhandup to Mulund, on the Central and Harbour lines and the Eastern Express Highway, with the Eastern Freeway making South Mumbai far closer to Chembur than the map suggests. Navi Mumbai is matched node to node, Vashi to Nerul, Belapur to Kharghar, along Palm Beach Road; the Atal Setu has shortened the crossing but has not made a weekday evening lesson from the island city sustainable.

Thane is its own market, running from the station out along Pokhran Road and Ghodbunder Road to Majiwada and Kasarvadavali, where the evening crawl sets the timetable. Searches for IB and IGCSE tutors near me in Mumbai throw up names from every one of these zones, and the distance is what quietly kills a weekly slot by October. The rule we apply is simple: match along the corridor, never across it. An IB and IGCSE home tutor in Mumbai who lives twenty minutes away in ordinary traffic will still be there in March.

  • Core ring: BKC, Bandra East, Santacruz East, Bandra West, Khar, Kalina
  • South Mumbai matched within the island: Colaba, Cuffe Parade, Worli, Peddar Road
  • Central and Eastern Suburbs: Powai, Ghatkopar, Chembur, Vikhroli, Mulund
  • Navi Mumbai node to node: Vashi, Nerul, Belapur, Kharghar via Palm Beach Road
  • Thane covered by Thane tutors along Pokhran Road and Ghodbunder Road

What the BKC school calendar does to a Mumbai tutoring year

To be plain about it before anything else: IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to Dhirubhai Ambani International School in any way. We have no access to its staff, its internal materials or its deadlines, and no tutor on this platform should ever claim otherwise. What we describe below is the ordinary public shape of an IB school year in Mumbai, Maharashtra, which parents already know from their own child's diary. Bandra Kurla Complex happens to hold several international schools within a few minutes of each other, including the American School of Bombay and Ascend International School, and families across all of them work to roughly the same rhythm.

That rhythm starts in June, in the monsoon, which is also when the first tuition requests of the year arrive. The term runs through to the Diwali break in October or November, with the first real assessments landing well before it. Diploma Programme year two mock examinations typically fall in January or February, Internal Assessment final submissions cluster in the same window, and the May examination session closes the whole thing out, with results in early July. IGCSE students in Year 11 sit the May/June series alongside them, so a household with two children can have both sets of pressure in the same fortnight.

The pressure points are predictable enough to plan a tutoring year around. September and October belong to the Extended Essay, because the first full draft and the Theory of Knowledge essay title selection both sit there for a May session cohort. November and December are when Internal Assessment drafts come back covered in supervisor comments and have to be rewritten properly. January and February are the worst month-and-a-half of the two years: mocks, final Internal Assessment submissions and university deadlines overlapping. March and April are pure examination technique, and by then a tutor should be marking past papers rather than teaching new content.

This is why starting tuition in January is usually a mistake, and why we say so to parents who ask in January. The highest-value months are the quiet ones. A tutor brought in during July or August of DP1 works on the Internal Assessment research question while there is still time to change it; the same tutor brought in during February is doing damage limitation on a draft that cannot now be redesigned. The Year 11 calendar rewards the same early start, because Cambridge IGCSE coursework and the Extended tier decision both arrive sooner than families expect.

  • June start in the monsoon; first assessments land before the Diwali break
  • September to October: Extended Essay drafting and Theory of Knowledge essay titles
  • January to February: mocks, final Internal Assessments and university deadlines together
  • May session examinations, with IGCSE May/June running in parallel
  • Starting in July or August of DP1 costs less than starting in February

Home tutor, online or hybrid: which actually works for a BKC family?

Home tuition is the default here and it is what most families ask for first. IB and IGCSE home tuition for Dhirubhai Ambani International School students in Mumbai usually means a tutor arriving between half past six and eight in the evening, after the school run and before dinner, in a flat in BKC, Bandra East or Santacruz East. The advantages are real and not sentimental: the student cannot drift off into another browser tab, the tutor sees the actual folder of marked work rather than a photograph of one page, and a parent can tell within three weeks whether anything is changing. The cost is travel, and travel is what breaks weekly slots.

Online is the honest answer for scarce subjects and for awkward geography. A Higher Level Economics teacher who lives in Thane is not driving to Bandra East on a Tuesday evening in July, but she will teach the same student every Tuesday for two years over a screen without missing one. An IB and IGCSE online tutor in Mumbai also solves the February problem, when a student needs three short sessions in a week rather than one long one. Screen sharing suits mathematics and the sciences well, because the working can be written out live, and suits essay subjects even better, because both people can edit the same document.

Hybrid is what most families settle into without planning it. The standing weekly session happens at home, and the extra sessions before a mock or an Internal Assessment deadline happen online at short notice. Some families run one subject at home and another online purely because of who was available. Booking all IB and IGCSE subjects in home classes across Mumbai sounds tidier than it is; insisting on in-person delivery for every subject usually means accepting a weaker tutor for at least one of them, which is a worse trade than it looks.

The trade-offs worth stating plainly: an IB and IGCSE private tutor in Mumbai coming to your home costs more per hour, because travel time is real time. Online costs less and is more reliable in the monsoon, but needs a desk, a decent connection and a door that closes. A student in Year 9 or Year 10 who still needs supervision usually does better in person. A Diploma Programme year two student working on an Extended Essay is often better served online, because what they need is a reader, not a presence.

  • Home tuition: best for Years 9 to 11 and for students who drift
  • Online: best for scarce Higher Level subjects and short pre-deadline sessions
  • Hybrid: standing weekly slot at home, extra sessions online before mocks
  • Travel time is billed time, so a nearby tutor is a cheaper tutor
  • Monsoon evenings are the usual reason an in-person slot quietly collapses

How are IB and IGCSE tutors in Mumbai actually checked?

Before any tutor is shown to a family asking for IB or IGCSE tutoring for Dhirubhai Ambani International School students in Mumbai, we check three things and we check them in order. Identity comes first: a government photo identity document, a current address, and a working phone number that matches. Qualifications come second: the actual degree certificate, and for anyone claiming teaching experience, the school or college where it happened. Subject-specific experience comes third and matters most. Having a Physics degree is not the same as having taught Diploma Programme Physics, and the gap between the two shows in the first week.

The subject check is a conversation, not a form. We ask which syllabus version they teach to, how the Internal Assessment criteria are worded, what they would do with a student whose exploration question is too broad, and which past paper series they use for practice. A tutor who has genuinely taught the Diploma Programme answers all four without hesitating. A tutor who has read about it produces vague, confident sentences about concepts and skills. We also ask directly whether they have any relationship with the schools their students attend, and the only acceptable answer is that they do not.

That last point is worth dwelling on, because it is where the market gets dishonest. Nobody on this platform has access to any school's internal materials, nobody has been trained by any school, and nobody can tell you what is coming in an internal assessment. If a tutor hints at inside knowledge of a BKC school, that is a reason to end the conversation, not a selling point. IB Gram is an independent platform with no affiliation to any school named anywhere on this page, and a tutor who implies otherwise is misrepresenting both themselves and us.

There is also work for you to do, and it takes about twenty minutes. In the trial session, ask the tutor to mark one piece of your child's returned work in front of you and explain the mark against the criteria. Ask what they would prioritise over the next six weeks and why. Ask what they will send you after each session. Then ask your child one question afterwards: did that make sense. A tutor who is wrong for your child is usually obvious by the end of the first hour, and nobody benefits from waiting a month to say so.

  • Government photo identity, current address and a verified contact number
  • Degree certificate seen, plus the school or college where teaching happened
  • Syllabus-level questioning on criteria wording, past paper series and exploration design
  • Any hint of inside knowledge about a school is a disqualifier, not a credential
  • Your own check: ask the tutor to mark one returned script against the criteria

Why BKC tutors go deep on IB DP rather than wide across boards

Bandra Kurla Complex holds one of the densest concentrations of international schools anywhere in India, and that density has shaped the tutors who work there. A tutor based in Bandra East or Santacruz East can fill an entire week with Diploma Programme students without ever teaching a state board or CBSE lesson, which is simply not true of a tutor in most other parts of the country. The result is specialisation. Families asking about IB and IGCSE coaching for Dhirubhai Ambani International School students in Mumbai are drawing on a pool that has repeated the same syllabus year after year rather than one that covers four boards at once, and that repetition is the thing you are actually paying for.

Here is what depth looks like in practice, on one component. Take the Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches Higher Level exploration, worth a fifth of the subject grade and marked out of twenty across five criteria: presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and use of mathematics. A DP1 student in Bandra East proposes to explore the mathematics of basketball shooting. A generalist tutor says that sounds interesting and helps with the projectile equations. The student writes a competent piece and scores in the middle, because projectile motion at Higher Level is not Higher Level mathematics, and the use of mathematics criterion caps out immediately.

A specialist does something different in the first twenty minutes. She keeps the student's interest in basketball and changes the question, so that the investigation now models shot success as a function of release angle and uses optimisation with a constraint, then tests the model against the student's own recorded attempts. That single change opens the top band of the use of mathematics criterion, gives personal engagement something real to point at, and creates natural places for reflection, which is the criterion most students bolt on at the end as a paragraph of regret. None of that is harder teaching; it is knowing where the marks live.

The same instinct applies across the pathway. A specialist spots that a Year 11 student heading for Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level should not drop Additional Mathematics 0606. She knows the Theory of Knowledge essay rewards an example the examiner has not seen forty times. She knows the sciences investigation is won in the research design section, weeks before the data is collected. Parents sometimes ask who the single best IB and IGCSE tutor in Mumbai is; there is no such person, but there is a right person for one student on one pathway, and in BKC the pool is deep enough that they usually exist.

  • BKC tutors repeat the same Diploma Programme syllabus rather than covering four boards
  • The Mathematics exploration is scored out of twenty across five published criteria
  • Changing the research question early is worth more than months of content revision
  • Reflection and personal engagement are planned at the start, not added at the end
  • Depth matters most at Higher Level, where generalist coverage runs out fastest

What should progress look like after four weeks, one term and one exam cycle?

At four weeks you should not be looking at grades at all, and any tutor who points at a grade after four weeks is managing you rather than teaching your child. What should have changed by then is behaviour: homework is being started earlier, the student can explain what a question is asking before attempting it, and the tutor is sending you a short note after each session saying what was covered and what was set. If your child still cannot tell you what they worked on last Tuesday, something is wrong and it is worth saying so in week four rather than week twelve.

At one term, roughly a June-to-Diwali or January-to-March block, you should see movement on the things that are actually marked. An Internal Assessment draft exists and has been through one round of supervisor comments. Past paper scores in the weak topic have moved, even if the overall grade has not, because an overall grade is an average that lags. The student has stopped avoiding the subject. For a Year 11 student, this is also the point at which the Core versus Extended question gets answered honestly rather than hopefully.

At one examination cycle, a mock series or the May session itself, you get the real reading. Here is the uncomfortable part: IB Gram does not guarantee grades, and no tutor should. A Diploma Programme grade is produced by two years of a student's own work, a school's teaching, an examiner's judgement and a set of internal assessments that were submitted months before the papers. Tutoring changes what a student brings into that room; it does not control the room. Anyone selling a guaranteed point gain is selling something they cannot deliver.

What tutoring reliably does is narrower and still worth paying for. It converts a student who does not know how to start into one who does. It gets coursework finished early enough to be revised rather than rescued. It replaces panic revision with marked past papers and a list of recurring mistakes. Families who get the most out of it treat the tutor as part of a system that includes the school and the student's own hours, not as a substitute for either, and they start the conversation in July rather than in February.

  • Four weeks: habits, session notes, and a student who can restate the question
  • One term: a real Internal Assessment draft and movement on weak-topic past papers
  • One cycle: honest reading against mocks, with no promised point gain
  • Grades are not guaranteed by anyone, and a tutor promising one is a warning
  • The biggest single variable remains the hours the student puts in alone

Starting IB and IGCSE home tuition for Dhirubhai Ambani International School students in Mumbai

Getting started takes one message and about ten minutes of preparation. Before you send it, gather three things: the most recent report card or progress sheet, one piece of returned marked work in the subject that is slipping, and the two or three evening windows you can genuinely protect every week. The marked work matters more than the report card, because a report tells us a grade and a marked script tells us where the marks were lost. If your child is in Diploma Programme year one, add the subject and level combination and whether any Internal Assessment has been started.

The first session is diagnostic and should feel like one. The tutor works through the returned script with your child, finds the two or three things that are actually breaking, and sets a short piece of work to confirm the diagnosis. By the end of it you should have a plain answer to one question: is this a content gap, a technique gap or a scheduling problem. Those three need different treatment, and a tutor who starts teaching from chapter one without asking is not doing the job you are paying for.

After that, the normal pattern for a home tuition slot in BKC, Bandra East or Santacruz East is ninety minutes once a week per subject, rising to two sessions a week in the six weeks before mocks and in the final stretch before the May session. Fees depend on the board, the level, how scarce the subject is, how far the tutor travels and how long the session runs, which is why we quote per tutor rather than publishing a rate card that would be wrong for most families.

If the match is not right, tell us in the first fortnight. Replacing a tutor early costs you one wasted session; replacing one in February costs a term. We re-shortlist against the same brief, you take another trial, and nothing carries over. That is the whole arrangement, and it is deliberately easy to leave, because a platform that makes you argue your way out of a bad match is not one worth joining in the first place.

  • Send: report card, one marked script, year group, subjects and levels
  • Name two or three evening windows you can protect for a full term
  • First session diagnoses content gap, technique gap or scheduling problem
  • Typical pattern: ninety minutes weekly, doubling before mocks and May
  • Not working after two sessions? Say so and we re-shortlist immediately
FAQs

Mumbai tutoring — questions parents ask

What does tuition for a Dhirubhai Ambani International School student cost?+

There is no single rate, and anyone quoting one before knowing the subject is guessing. What an IB and IGCSE home tutor for Dhirubhai Ambani International School students in Mumbai charges depends on five things: the board and level, because Higher Level work costs more than Year 9 support; the scarcity of the subject, because Higher Level Economics teachers are rarer than Mathematics teachers; the distance travelled, since travel time is real working time; the session length; and whether delivery is at home or online. IB and IGCSE tuition fees in Mumbai also move with the calendar, because February availability is tighter than July availability. We quote per tutor, in writing, before the trial.

Is IB Gram connected to Dhirubhai Ambani International School in any way?+

No. IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, approved by or connected to Dhirubhai Ambani International School, the American School of Bombay, Ascend International School or any other school named on this page. We have no access to any school's staff, internal materials, marking or deadlines. We name the school because parents search for it and because its board pathway is public information, and for no other reason. If any tutor suggests to you that they have an inside line to a school, please tell us, because that is grounds for removal from the platform.

Will a tutor travel to our building in BKC on a weekday evening?+

Yes, and this is the most common arrangement we set up in this part of Mumbai. Tutors matched to BKC, Bandra East and Santacruz East families are chosen partly because they already live or teach within that ring, so a half past six or seven o'clock start is realistic rather than aspirational. Give us your building and the gate protocol when you first write in, because a tutor who needs a pre-approved visitor entry or a resident's call at the gate each week needs to know before the first visit. Tutors carry photo identity for the register. A standing weekly slot with the same name is far easier for security than ad hoc timings.

Does a parent need to be at home during a home tuition session?+

Not for the whole session, but you should be in the house for the first one. Being present for the trial lets you hear how the tutor explains something and how your child responds, which is the only real evidence you will get that early. After that, most families are in another room. For students in Years 9 and 10 we suggest staying within earshot, because younger students drift and a tutor is not a disciplinarian. For Diploma Programme students, presence usually makes things worse rather than better. What you should expect regardless is a short written note after each session saying what was covered and what was set.

My child is moving from IGCSE Year 11 into DP1. When should tuition start?+

Start in the summer before Diploma Programme year one, not in the first term of it. The transition from IGCSE to the Diploma Programme is a change in how work is assessed rather than only a step up in difficulty, and a student who scored well at IGCSE by revising hard in the final weeks will carry that habit into a programme where a fifth of each subject grade is settled by coursework written months before the exam. Two or three sessions in June and July spent on the Higher Level subject choices, the Additional Mathematics question and how the Internal Assessment calendar works prevent most of the problems we see in February.

Does online tuition really work for IB Diploma subjects?+

Yes, with two conditions. The first is subject fit: mathematics and the sciences work well online because the working can be written out live on a shared screen, and essay subjects work very well because tutor and student can edit the same document together, which beats passing a printout back and forth. The second is setup: a desk, a stable connection and a door that closes. An IB and IGCSE online tutor in Mumbai is also often the only way to reach the right Higher Level specialist, since the best person for a scarce subject may be in Thane or Navi Mumbai and will never make a weekday evening journey to Bandra.

What happens if the tutor is not working out after three sessions?+

You tell us and we re-shortlist, usually within a day or two. There is no contract, no notice period and no awkward conversation required with the tutor, because we handle that. Please do say it early rather than waiting for a term to end; three wasted sessions is a small loss, and a wasted term before mocks is not. It helps if you can describe what specifically did not work, whether the explanations were too fast, the tutor was teaching content when the issue was technique, or the personalities simply did not fit. That description makes the second match considerably better than the first.

There has been no visible progress after a month. What should we do?+

Ask for a written review rather than switching immediately. At four weeks, grades genuinely should not have moved, so the question is whether the underlying behaviour has. A reasonable tutor can tell you precisely what they have been working on, what the student can now do that they could not in week one, and what is still broken. If that account is vague, the problem is the tutor. If it is specific but your child is not doing the work set between sessions, the problem is not the tutor, and changing them will not help. We are happy to sit in the middle of that conversation.

Can one tutor cover all the subjects my child needs?+

Through Year 9 and Year 10, often yes. At Diploma Programme level, almost never. The content is deep enough by then that the same person is rarely strong at Higher Level Chemistry and Higher Level English Language and Literature, and a generalist who claims both is usually ordinary at each. The practical answer for most families here is one tutor for the subject that is genuinely failing, and a second only if a different subject becomes a problem later. Adding three tutors at once is expensive and gives a Diploma Programme student more evening commitments than study hours, which usually makes the term worse.

How does the Mumbai monsoon affect a weekly evening home tuition slot?+

It is the single biggest cause of cancelled sessions, and it is why we match on travel distance rather than on credentials alone. June to September evenings in Mumbai can turn a twenty-minute drive across the Western Express Highway into an hour, and a tutor who faces that twice a week will quietly start rescheduling by August. Two things help. Keep the slot with a tutor who lives inside your corridor rather than across the city, and agree in advance that heavy rain moves the session online rather than cancelling it. Most families here run exactly that arrangement and lose almost no sessions across the year.

Can a tutor help with the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge?+

Yes, within clear limits. A tutor can help a student narrow a research question, build a reading plan, structure an argument, understand what the assessment criteria are actually asking for, and read a draft critically. A tutor cannot write any part of it, cannot supply the content, and must not touch the student's reflection sessions with their supervisor, which belong to the school. The Extended Essay in particular is usually a scheduling failure rather than an intellectual one, and the most useful work a tutor does on it happens in September and October of Diploma Programme year two, not in December.
