How do we match an IB and IGCSE home tutor for Cathedral and John Connon School students in Mumbai?

You send one message naming the board, the year group and the subject. Inside about a working day you get two or three tutor profiles: what each has taught, for how many years, which boards, and when they can reach your building. You choose one. The first session is a diagnostic rather than a lesson, and you are told in writing what it found before you commit to a term of anything.

What a request for an IB and IGCSE home tutor for Cathedral and John Connon School students in Mumbai tells us is mostly calendar. It says the child is on a Cambridge International Education IGCSE pathway that feeds into the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) inside the same institution, that the school day runs on a Fort timetable, and that the family probably lives somewhere on the island. It does not tell us the subject problem, so the first question back is always about the subject and the specific piece of work that went wrong.

Asking for the best IB and IGCSE tutor in Mumbai is the wrong frame, and we say so early rather than politely agreeing. There is no single ranking. A Diploma Programme Economics teacher who writes excellent commentary feedback can be a poor fit for a Year 10 student who needs someone patient about algebraic manipulation. Fit is specific: subject, level, the student's actual gap, the hour of the evening they can still concentrate in, and whether they learn better by being questioned or by being shown.

Most parents start by typing IB and IGCSE tutors near me from somewhere in Mumbai, then discover that proximity is the least useful filter of the three that matter. A tutor fifteen minutes away who has never supervised a Diploma Programme Internal Assessment (IA) is worse than one forty minutes away who has marked a hundred of them. We weigh travel seriously, because a match that dies in November helps nobody, but we weigh it after subject and level, never before.

  • 1. Tell us board, year group, subject and the three evening slots that genuinely work.
  • 2. We shortlist two or three tutors who have taught that exact level and board.
  • 3. You read profiles: qualifications, boards taught, years teaching in Mumbai, travel radius.
  • 4. A diagnostic first session maps gaps against the syllabus, not a generic placement test.
  • 5. You get a written plan for the term, and you may swap tutors without explaining.

IGCSE into the IB Diploma Programme: the hinge year in a South Mumbai school

Cathedral and John Connon School runs an International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) pathway and an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) pathway. That is public information and it is the reason this page exists. The structure matters far more than the names. IGCSE is taken across roughly Years 9 to 11 as a set of separate subject qualifications, each graded on its own and each capable of standing alone. The Diploma Programme that follows is one qualification assembled from six subjects plus a core, and a weak component drags the whole total.

Inside IGCSE the first real decision is tier. Mathematics, the sciences and several language subjects are offered at Core and Extended, and the Extended papers reach grades the Core papers are not able to award. Families often treat this as a confidence question about the child. It is closer to a Diploma Programme question about the next two years: a student who wants Higher Level (HL) Physics needs the Extended Mathematics content, because the Core syllabus never covers the algebraic manipulation that Higher Level Physics quietly assumes from the first week.

The Diploma Programme then asks for three subjects at Higher Level and three at Standard Level (SL), one drawn from each of five groups plus a sixth that may be a second science, a second language or an arts subject. On top sit Theory of Knowledge (TOK), the Extended Essay (EE) and Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS). A family can ask for help across all IB and IGCSE subjects in IGCSE Years 9-11 from one tutor in Mumbai, or split the load across two specialists once Diploma Programme Higher Level choices have hardened and the subjects stop overlapping.

The hinge sits at the end of Year 11. The IGCSE results that are meant to inform Diploma Programme choices arrive after the choices have largely been made, so the decision is taken on predicted grades, mock performance and what the student can stand doing for two more years. That is a conversation worth having with someone who has taught both halves and has watched the same student make the same choice badly before.

  • IGCSE grades each subject separately; the Diploma Programme grades one assembled package.
  • Core and Extended tiers cap different grades; Extended feeds Higher Level science.
  • Diploma Programme: three Higher Level, three Standard Level, plus TOK, EE and CAS.
  • Subject groups force a language, a science and a humanity whatever the preference.
  • Higher Level choices are usually settled before IGCSE results are ever published.

Subject choice across both boards, and what each subject makes a student produce

Every subject on both boards ends in something the student has to produce, and the production is what tutoring is actually for. At IGCSE that is a set of timed papers, with a practical or coursework component in the sciences and the arts. In the Diploma Programme it is timed papers plus an Internal Assessment (IA) in every single subject, marked by the teacher against published criteria and then moderated externally, which means the criteria are the real curriculum for that piece of work.

The Internal Assessment is not one thing, and treating it as one thing is the commonest planning error we see. In Diploma Programme Mathematics it is an exploration of a mathematical idea the student chooses for themselves. In the sciences it is an individual investigation with its own research question and its own collected data. In Economics it is a set of commentaries on real news articles. In Language A it is an oral on a global issue, and in History it is a short investigation with a formal source evaluation section. A shortlist spans all IB and IGCSE subjects with one tutor in Mumbai per subject where the load genuinely justifies it.

At IGCSE the components are blunter and easier to prepare for, which is both the relief and the trap. A science subject typically carries a multiple-choice paper, a theory paper split by tier, and a practical component that is either a laboratory examination or an alternative-to-practical written paper. Mathematics has two papers at the chosen tier, with the Extended papers carrying the longer structured questions. English Language sits on reading and directed writing before any literary analysis appears, and candidates who are strong readers often lose marks on format rather than content.

Deciding how many subjects to tutor is its own problem and deserves a decision rather than a drift. Two subjects at two hours each is a realistic weekly load for a Year 11 student who still has school homework, a sport, and a daily commute into Fort. Four tutored subjects is usually a sign that something structural has gone wrong with the week, and the honest answer there is to fix the timetable and the sleep before adding a third tutor to it.

  • Every Diploma Programme subject carries an Internal Assessment; IGCSE mostly does not.
  • IGCSE sciences add a laboratory exam or an alternative-to-practical written paper.
  • Extended Mathematics papers carry the structured questions Higher Level sciences assume.
  • Language A oral and History investigation are coursework problems, not revision problems.
  • Two tutored subjects a week is realistic; four usually signals a timetable problem.

Where in Mumbai the families at this Fort school actually live

Fort is an office and institution district, so almost nobody tutored under this heading is tutored in Fort itself. The school sits there; the homes are spread down the island and up the lines. In practice IB and IGCSE home tuition for Cathedral and John Connon School students in Mumbai happens in a flat in Colaba, Cuffe Parade, Churchgate, Marine Drive, Walkeshwar or Nepean Sea Road, and the tutor is matched to that home address rather than to the school gate.

South Mumbai is short on distance and long on time, which catches out every tutor who has just moved down from the suburbs. A tutor crossing from Worli to Colaba covers a handful of kilometres and can still lose forty minutes at the Peddar Road and Haji Ali signals in the evening peak. The Western Line ends at Churchgate and the Central and Harbour lines terminate at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), so a tutor living near either station reaches the Fort, Churchgate and Marine Drive belt without touching a highway. The Coastal Road has made the Worli run noticeably quicker.

Families move, and a share of this school's students now commute from much further out. The Western Suburbs run along the Western Express Highway and the Western Line, so Bandra West and Khar sit one Bandra-Worli Sea Link crossing away, with Metro Lines 2A and 7 serving Malad and Kandivali further north. In the Central Suburbs, Powai and Ghatkopar are reached by JVLR and Metro Line 1 rather than by any station of their own. The Eastern Suburbs, meaning Chembur and Wadala here, are closer to Fort than the map suggests because of the Eastern Freeway. Navi Mumbai nodes such as Vashi and Nerul sit on the Harbour Line and Palm Beach Road, and the Atal Setu has shortened the Panvel approach considerably.

Thane is the honest limit of a weekday road match. A tutor living near Thane station reaches Pokhran Road and Majiwada quickly and Ghodbunder Road slowly, and none of them should be driving to Colaba for a ninety-minute evening lesson that starts at seven. Metro Line 3 now links Cuffe Parade to the Bandra Kurla Complex, which has made a small number of cross-city matches workable that genuinely were not before. Beyond that we match inside the zone and use online sessions for everything the road cannot sustain.

  • Fort holds the school; the homes are Colaba, Cuffe Parade, Churchgate and Marine Drive.
  • Churchgate ends the Western Line; CSMT anchors the Central and Harbour lines.
  • The Sea Link and Coastal Road decide whether a Bandra West tutor is viable.
  • The Eastern Freeway makes Chembur and Wadala closer to Fort than they look.
  • Thane and Navi Mumbai matches usually run online rather than by weekday road.

The assessment calendar a Cathedral and John Connon School family plans around

Before anything else, the boundary. IB Gram is an independent platform, not affiliated with Cathedral and John Connon School, not endorsed by it, and with no access to its staff, its internally set papers or its marking. We name the school because parents search for it and because its published board pathway sets the shape of the year. Anyone offering you inside knowledge of a Mumbai school's internal assessments is offering you something they should not have, and you should treat that offer as a reason to walk away.

The shape of the year is set by the examination boards, not by any tutor. Cambridge IGCSE sits its main series across May and June, with a smaller November window, so Year 11 spends the second term in mock season and the third term in the real thing. The Diploma Programme May session puts its examinations in the same window, which is why a single South Mumbai household can have a Year 11 child and a DP2 child both effectively unavailable through the same six weeks, with one set of parents trying to run two revision timetables.

The pressure points are predictable enough to plan around, which is the whole argument for starting early. August and September are quiet, and they are the cheapest time to repair a foundation gap because nothing is due. October into November is when Diploma Programme Internal Assessment drafts start landing and when Year 11 coursework stops being theoretical. December and January are mock months. February is when the Extended Essay and the Theory of Knowledge essay deadlines tend to collide with everything else on the desk. March and April are revision, and by then a tutor is managing pace and nerves rather than teaching new content.

Families here often compare notes with parents at B.D. Somani International School in Cuffe Parade and Bombay International School at Babulnath, both of which also run IGCSE and Diploma Programme pathways in South Mumbai. The calendars rhyme because the boards are the same, not because the schools coordinate anything. If a neighbour's child has a different mock week or a different coursework deadline, that is a school-level decision, and no tutor can or should predict it for you.

  • IB Gram has no relationship with the school and no access to its materials.
  • Cambridge IGCSE runs a May and June main series plus a November window.
  • The Diploma Programme May session overlaps the IGCSE window almost exactly.
  • October to February is the Internal Assessment, Extended Essay and mock crush.
  • August and September are the quiet months most worth using.

Home tuition, online or hybrid when your child commutes into Fort from across South Mumbai?

Home tuition first, online as cover, and hybrid as the arrangement most families settle into by the second term. A tutor at the dining table gets the one thing a screen cannot reliably get: the student's working, in pencil, as it happens. For a Year 11 sitting Extended Mathematics that is most of the diagnosis, because the error is almost never in the final answer and almost always three lines above it.

The commute shapes the weekly timetable more than the subject ever does. A child travelling into Fort from Bandra West or Chembur leaves early and is rarely home before six, so a weekday slot realistically starts at seven and should finish by half past eight if the next morning is going to work. Saturday mornings are the most reliable hour of the week in South Mumbai and the first slots to go. Most IB and IGCSE home classes for Cathedral and John Connon School students in Mumbai therefore run after seven on two weekdays plus a weekend morning.

An IB and IGCSE online tutor in Mumbai earns their place in two clear situations. The first is scarcity: Higher Level Chemistry, Diploma Programme Economics and Mathematics Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level have thin tutor pools, and insisting on travel can narrow a short list down to nobody. The second is examination season, when a thirty-minute question clinic the night before a paper is worth more than a cancelled ninety-minute visit. Against that, online loses the loose conversation at the end of a session, which is very often where a student finally admits what they did not understand.

Hybrid in practice means one visit a week and one screen session, or all IB and IGCSE subjects in home classes across Mumbai during term with online cover through the monsoon and the examination weeks. It is less a compromise than an admission that July rain on the island is real and that a tutor stuck at Haji Ali is not teaching anybody. Agree the pattern in writing at the start, including what happens to a missed slot and who carries the cost of it.

  • Home tuition shows the working; a screen usually shows only the finished answer.
  • Weekday slots realistically start at seven, once the Fort commute is done.
  • Saturday mornings are the most durable slot of the week and the first booked.
  • Online suits scarce Higher Level subjects and short clinics in examination week.
  • Hybrid: one home visit, one screen session, with the missed-slot rule agreed upfront.

How are IB and IGCSE tutors in Mumbai checked before you meet them?

Every tutor gives us a degree certificate, a photo identity document, a verifiable teaching history and a recorded or live sample of them teaching a syllabus topic at the level they are claiming. We watch the sample ourselves rather than taking the claim on trust. A candidate who can describe the Diploma Programme Internal Assessment criteria in the abstract but cannot mark one sample student paragraph against them does not get listed, because marking against criteria is the job.

There are limits to verification and you should know exactly where they sit. We confirm qualifications and teaching history; we cannot confirm what grades a tutor's previous students went on to get, because that data is not ours and anybody quoting it to you is quoting something nobody can check. We also do not list anyone who claims a connection to Cathedral and John Connon School. A tutor who says they know what the school is about to set is either guessing or doing something improper, and both are reasons to pass on them.

Do your own three checks in the first session, because you will learn more in twenty minutes than any profile tells you. Ask the tutor to name the components of your child's subject without looking them up. Ask how they would mark one paragraph of your child's last piece of real work. Ask what they want the student to do between now and the next session. An IB and IGCSE private tutor in Mumbai who cannot answer the second question is a lecturer rather than a tutor, and your child already has lecturers for six hours a day.

Ask about continuity as well, because it is the question nobody thinks to ask until it matters. Families arranging IB or IGCSE home tutoring for Cathedral and John Connon School students in Mumbai usually need it across two or three years, so a tutor planning to leave the city in June is the wrong match for a Year 10 student however good the trial lesson was. We ask tutors to state their horizon honestly, and we tell you when that horizon is short.

  • Degree certificate, photo identity, teaching history and a marked sample from every tutor.
  • Nobody is listed who claims any link to the school or its staff.
  • We cannot verify past students' grades, so we do not repeat them to you.
  • Ask the tutor to mark one paragraph of your child's actual work.
  • Tutors state how long they expect to keep teaching in Mumbai.

Why Year 11 is the year most Cathedral and John Connon School families start looking

Year 11 is the year two separate pressures land inside the same twelve months. The IGCSE terminal examinations arrive, and the Diploma Programme subject choice has to be made before the results of those examinations are known. A student is therefore picking Higher Level subjects on the strength of mock grades and teacher predictions, while simultaneously revising for the papers that were supposed to settle the question for them. Families notice the strain in January and start looking for help in February.

The second pressure is a change in what marking rewards, and it catches strong students hardest because their existing technique stops paying. IGCSE preparation is largely mark-scheme recall: there is an expected answer, the mark scheme lists it, and a disciplined student learns to produce it on demand. The Diploma Programme replaces much of that with criterion-referenced judgement, where a published descriptor asks whether the student has justified, evaluated or analysed, and an examiner decides which band the work belongs in. Take one concrete pair of tasks. An IGCSE alternative-to-practical paper might ask how to improve the reliability of a set of titration results, and 'repeat the titration until two titres agree within 0.10 cm3' takes the mark cleanly, because it is the expected response and the candidate does not have to mean it.

Now put the same student into Diploma Programme Chemistry, writing the Internal Assessment under Criterion B, Exploration. That same sentence earns very little there. The descriptor asks for a methodology that is described and justified in relation to the student's own research question, so they have to explain why concordant titres matter for the precision of the particular concentration being calculated, which sources of error are realistic in their own apparatus, and what they chose to control and why they chose it rather than something else. The chemistry knowledge is identical in both cases. The thing being assessed is not, and a student who has never been asked to justify a choice in writing will under-perform their real understanding for a full term before anybody diagnoses why.

The third pressure is load arriving all at once. In DP1 the Internal Assessments, the Theory of Knowledge essay and the Extended Essay all begin inside the same academic year, each with a different supervisor, a different deadline and a different set of criteria. None of them is difficult in isolation. All of them together, against a Fort timetable and an hour of commuting each way, is a project-management problem long before it is an academic one. A good tutor in this year spends as much time on sequencing and draft deadlines as on subject content, and says so.

  • Higher Level choices get made before IGCSE results confirm where the strengths are.
  • Mark-scheme recall stops paying; criterion descriptors reward justification instead.
  • Criterion B rewards why a control matters, not merely that it was applied.
  • Internal Assessment, Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay all start the same year.
  • Sequencing deadlines matters as much as subject teaching through Year 11 and DP1.

What does progress look like at four weeks, one term and one exam cycle?

At four weeks you should see process change rather than grade change: homework started earlier, a method written out instead of guessed at, fewer blank starts on a question. At one term you should see it reach school assessments, usually as a steadier floor rather than a higher ceiling. At one examination cycle you can judge the arrangement properly. IB Gram does not guarantee grades, and anybody who does is selling you something they have no way of delivering.

The four-week mark is really a relationship check rather than an academic one, so ask your child rather than the tutor. Does the tutor make you do the work or do they do it in front of you. Do you know what you are supposed to do before the next session. Can you say what you were bad at four weeks ago and whether it has moved. If those answers come back vague after a month, the match is wrong, and the subject is very unlikely to be the reason it is wrong.

Some things move slowly and you should budget for it rather than be disappointed by it. A reading-speed problem in Diploma Programme English or History does not resolve inside a term. A student who has not written an extended piece of sustained argument since Year 9 will need most of a term before an Extended Essay chapter stops being painful to produce. Conversely, a Year 11 Mathematics student with one specific topic hole, trigonometric identities or algebraic fractions, can cross a grade boundary in six weeks, because the gap is narrow and the papers reward exactly that.

When it is not working, say so at week three rather than week ten. We arrange a replacement without argument and without asking you to build a case for it, and we ask the outgoing tutor for a short handover note so the incoming one does not spend a paid session repeating the diagnostic you already paid for. Most failed matches come down to pace or personality rather than competence, and nobody has to be blamed for it on either side.

  • Four weeks: process change, earlier starts, written method, fewer blank pages.
  • One term: a steadier floor in school assessments, rarely a dramatic ceiling.
  • One examination cycle: the first genuinely fair test of the arrangement.
  • Narrow topic gaps move fastest; writing stamina and reading speed move slowly.
  • Raise a bad match at week three; a replacement needs no justification from you.

Starting with an IB and IGCSE home tutor in South Mumbai

Send three things and the match gets dramatically faster: the subject and level, your child's last two pieces of marked work, and the three evening windows that actually survive a Fort commute. The marked work does more than any description can, because a tutor reading a teacher's written comments alongside the student's answers can usually see the pattern inside twenty minutes and tell you what kind of help this is.

You do not need to decide the full scope before you start. Some families want a home tutor for all IB and IGCSE subjects in Mumbai from day one, and most of those are better served beginning with a single subject and adding a second after a month of evidence. Others want six focused weeks of Extended Mathematics before the mocks and nothing afterwards. Both are entirely normal requests, and the tutor should be told plainly which of the two they are being hired for.

The first session is a diagnostic and should feel like one. The tutor works through a past paper question or a piece of the student's own coursework while asking them to narrate what they are doing, because the narration exposes the gap far faster than the final answer does. At the end you should get a short written note: what the gap is, which syllabus sections it touches, what the next four sessions will cover, and what the student has to do between them. If that note does not arrive, ask for it before the second session.

A few practical things are worth settling in the first week rather than the fourth. Decide where in the flat the session happens and that it is not the bedroom. Check whether building security needs a standing gate pass so the tutor is not held downstairs every Tuesday. Agree what happens when either side misses a session. And agree how the tutor will tell you something you do not want to hear, because settling that in September is what makes the honest conversation possible in February.

  • Send subject, level, two pieces of marked work and three workable evening slots.
  • Start with one subject; add a second only after four weeks of evidence.
  • Expect a short written diagnostic note after the first session, every time.
  • Arrange a standing gate pass so the tutor is not stopped at security weekly.
  • Agree the missed-session rule before the week you actually need it.
FAQs

Mumbai tutoring — questions parents ask

Is IB Gram connected to Cathedral and John Connon School in any way?+

No. IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform, not affiliated with Cathedral and John Connon School, not endorsed by it, and with no access to its staff, its internally set assessments or its marking. We name the school because that is the phrase parents type into Google, and we write about its board pathway because IGCSE and the Diploma Programme are public, published syllabuses that anybody can read. If a tutor ever tells you they know what the school is about to set, treat it as a reason to end the conversation there.

Can a tutor come to our home in Colaba or Cuffe Parade on a weekday evening?+

Yes, and South Mumbai addresses are among the easier ones to staff, because tutors who live on the island do not have to cross a highway to reach you. The practical constraint is the hour rather than the distance. Colaba and Cuffe Parade sessions usually start at seven, once the child is back from Fort and has eaten, and a ninety-minute slot finishing by half past eight holds up across a full term far better than a nine o'clock start ever does. Tell us the building and we match within realistic travel of it.

My child gets home from Fort at six. When can home tuition realistically happen?+

Seven to half past eight on two weekdays, plus a Saturday morning, is the pattern that actually survives a term. Fort empties into the evening peak and the trip back to Churchgate, Marine Drive or Worli is slower than the distance suggests, so a six o'clock start fails roughly one week in three, and after that the tutor and the family quietly start resenting each other. Book the later slot and keep it. One unhurried Saturday session is worth two rushed weekday ones once examination term begins.

What do IB and IGCSE tuition fees in Mumbai depend on?+

Five things, and we will not print a figure here because any figure printed here would be wrong for your case. Board and level come first, since Diploma Programme Higher Level work costs more than IGCSE Year 9. Subject scarcity comes second: Higher Level Chemistry and Mathematics Analysis and Approaches have far smaller tutor pools than English or Business Management. Then travel distance and time of day, because a tutor crossing the island in the evening peak is selling you two hours of their day for one of yours. Session length and whether you book a term block finish the list.

We are deciding between Core and Extended IGCSE Mathematics. Can a tutor help with that call?+

Yes, and it is one of the more valuable things a tutor does in Year 9 and Year 10. The decision usually gets framed as a question about confidence when it should be framed as a question about consequence. Extended papers award grades the Core papers cannot, and Higher Level Diploma Programme sciences assume Extended content that the Core syllabus never teaches. A tutor can test the specific gap, which is algebraic manipulation more often than not, then tell you honestly whether six focused weeks closes it or whether Core is the better-fitting plan for this student.

Is online as effective as home tuition for Diploma Programme subjects?+

For most subjects it is close, and for Internal Assessment supervision it can genuinely be better, because screen-sharing a draft with tracked comments beats two people squinting at one laptop at a dining table. Where online loses is early diagnosis and handwritten working in Mathematics and Physics, since the tutor cannot see the line where the error entered. The usual answer for a South Mumbai family is hybrid: run home tuition for the first month while the tutor learns the student, then move routine sessions online and keep one visit a fortnight.

What happens if the tutor is not working out after three sessions?+

You tell us and we replace them, with no argument and no fee negotiation to get through first. We ask one question about what went wrong, not to challenge you but because the answer changes who we suggest next: pace, personality, communication style and subject depth are four different problems with four different replacements. The outgoing tutor writes a short handover note so the new one does not spend a whole session repeating the diagnostic. Most swaps happen inside the first month, which is exactly when they should happen.

How many subjects should we start with in Year 11?+

One, in almost every case. Parents arranging IB and IGCSE home tuition for Cathedral and John Connon School students in Mumbai often ask for three subjects at once in September, and that reliably produces a student who is busier rather than better. Start with the subject where the gap is widest or the stakes are highest, run it for four weeks, and then judge it. If the first subject is holding and there is still genuine room in the week, add a second in October before Internal Assessment drafting starts eating the calendar.

Do tutors help with the Internal Assessment, Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge?+

Yes, with a firm boundary: a tutor teaches the skill and reads a draft, and the student writes every word of it. For an Internal Assessment that means working through the criteria together, testing whether a research question can actually be answered with the data the student can collect, and pointing at the paragraph that asserts something instead of justifying it. For the Extended Essay it is mostly scope control and source discipline. For Theory of Knowledge it is learning to state a claim and then argue against it properly. Supervisors check authenticity, and a tutor who offers to write any of it should be refused.

We live in Navi Mumbai but my child studies in Fort. Does that change the match?+

It changes the mode more than it changes the match. A Vashi, Nerul or Belapur address is best served by a tutor from the same node, because pulling somebody across the Atal Setu or along the Harbour Line for a weekday evening lesson looks workable in September and falls apart by November. The school being in Fort is irrelevant to the tutor's journey; your home address is the only thing that matters to it. For scarce Higher Level subjects we would suggest online from the start rather than a road match that will not hold.

Can one tutor cover both IGCSE and Diploma Programme years as my child moves up?+

Often yes, and it is worth asking for deliberately rather than hoping it happens. A tutor who has taught both halves understands why Extended Mathematics content matters for Higher Level Physics, and what changes in the marking once criterion descriptors replace mark schemes. Continuity also saves most of a term of getting to know a student. The thing to check is the tutor's own horizon: if they expect to leave Mumbai within the year, a Year 10 student is better off starting with somebody who will still be here in DP1.

Will a tutor have the school's own worksheets or past internal papers?+

No, and you should be wary of anybody who claims otherwise. School-set materials belong to the school, and a tutor circulating them is doing something that could cause your child real trouble. What a good tutor does have is the published syllabus, past board papers, the official assessment criteria and mark schemes, and years of experience of what examiners actually reward. That is more than enough to work with. Work set by the school arrives at the session inside your child's own folder, which is exactly how it should arrive.
