How does IB Gram shortlist a tutor for a Bombay Cambridge International School family in Mumbai?

You send the year group, the board, the subject list, the tier your child is entered for and your pin code. Within a working day you get two or three tutor profiles, each stating which Cambridge or IB components that tutor has actually taught. You pick one, pay for a single trial session, and keep or replace the tutor after it. That is the whole of what booking an IB and IGCSE tutor in Mumbai involves.

The reason the form asks for the tier and not just the subject is that Core and Extended are different jobs. A tutor whose recent work has been Extended Mathematics 0580 Paper 4 is not automatically the right person for a Core Paper 3 candidate who needs grade-C security, and the reverse is worse: pushing a Core candidate through Extended past papers produces a term of demoralising scores and no grade movement. We would rather ask you one extra question than send the wrong profile.

We also ask what the last report or test actually said, in the teacher's words. "Needs to show working" and "struggles with application questions" point at different tutors. The first is a presentation and command-word problem, fixable inside a term. The second usually means the content is known in isolation and falls apart when the question puts it in an unfamiliar context, which is a longer job. If you have a marked script, photograph it and send it; one marked paper tells us more than a paragraph of description.

Nothing on this page implies a relationship with your child's school. IB Gram is an independent tutoring platform, not affiliated with Bombay Cambridge International School, not endorsed by it and not connected to it in any way. We do not have the school's internal materials, its mark schemes, its staff list or its report data, and no tutor on our platform will tell you otherwise. What we match against is the published Cambridge syllabus, which is the same document the school teaches from.

  • 1. Send year group, board, subject list, tier and your pin code
  • 2. We confirm the syllabus codes and the exact papers involved
  • 3. You receive two or three profiles with stated board experience
  • 4. One paid trial session happens at your home or online
  • 5. You confirm a weekly slot, or ask for a different tutor

Core or Extended: which IGCSE tier should your child sit?

Choose Extended if your child wants a grade above C or intends to carry the subject into the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) at Higher Level (HL). Choose Core if the subject is a requirement rather than a destination. Cambridge Core papers award grades C to G; Extended papers award A* to E. The ceiling is the decision, and everything else follows from it.

In practice the tier changes which two papers your child sits. In Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580, Core candidates take Paper 1 and Paper 3, Extended candidates take Paper 2 and Paper 4, and the Extended syllabus includes material the Core syllabus never covers: functions, set notation, harder transformations and trigonometry beyond the basic sine and cosine work. In the sciences the same pattern holds. Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625 runs Paper 1 and Paper 3 for Core and Paper 2 and Paper 4 for Extended, with Chemistry 0620 and Biology 0610 structured the same way.

Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 is the one worth understanding properly, because it is a single award covering biology, chemistry and physics content rather than three separate ones. A student taking 0654 sits fewer papers and carries less total content than a student taking 0610, 0620 and 0625 separately, but finishes with one grade rather than three. If a DP science at Higher Level is the plan, three separate sciences is the safer foundation; if the plan is one science at Standard Level (SL) with strength elsewhere, 0654 frees up revision time that the student will need.

Timing matters more than parents expect. Entry decisions are made by the school with Cambridge well before the series, and a move from Extended down to Core is administratively simpler than a move upwards, because an upward move means teaching content the class has already passed. The honest window for an upward move is the first two terms of Year 10, not the February before the exam. We cover all IB and IGCSE subjects across IGCSE Years 9-11 with one tutor in Mumbai per subject cluster, and in Year 9 the tutor's real job is keeping the Extended route available.

  • Core grades run C to G; Extended runs A* to E
  • Mathematics 0580: Core sits Papers 1 and 3, Extended Papers 2 and 4
  • Physics 0625, Chemistry 0620 and Biology 0610 follow the same tier split
  • Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 gives one grade across three science disciplines
  • Extended Maths is the realistic route into IB Maths at Higher Level
  • Additional Mathematics 0606 sits alongside Extended, never instead of it

Paper 6 is a separate skill: what the alternative to practical actually tests

The alternative to practical is a laboratory-skills paper written on paper, and it is marked against procedure rather than against theory. In Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625 the practical skills are assessed either by Paper 5, a timetabled practical test, or by Paper 6, the alternative to practical. A student who knows every formula in the syllabus can still drop marks across Paper 6 because nobody taught them how to label an axis, and that is a teaching gap rather than a subject weakness.

Here is the kind of question, and where the marks sit. A student is given a table of water temperature recorded every thirty seconds as a beaker cools, and asked to plot the results and draw the best-fit line. The plotting marks go for axes labelled with the quantity and its unit, a scale that uses more than half the printed grid in both directions, points marked accurately, and one smooth curve rather than a dot-to-dot line. Then: "Suggest one change to the apparatus that would reduce heat loss from the beaker." A lid or lagging earns the mark. "Be more careful" earns nothing. Then: "State why the thermometer should be read at eye level." The answer is parallax error, in those words. Nothing about safety scores here.

Command words are the other half of the marks and they are defined in the syllabus, not left to interpretation. "State" wants a fact with no reasoning attached and gives no credit for extra. "Describe" wants what happens. "Explain" wants why, and an answer with no causal word in it does not get there. "Suggest" signals an unfamiliar context where the examiner expects syllabus content applied to something the student has not seen before. "Calculate" wants the working visible, because method marks survive an arithmetic slip and a bare wrong number does not. "Compare" needs both sides inside one sentence; two separate descriptions often score one mark where two were available.

The same precision applies outside the sciences. Cambridge IGCSE English as a Second Language 0510 has a summary task where exceeding the word limit costs marks that content cannot win back. First Language English 0500 Paper 2 directed writing is assessed on audience and register as much as on quality of prose. Economics 0455 separates a four-mark "explain" from an eight-mark "discuss", and a student who writes the same shape of answer for both loses on the second. Asking for all IB and IGCSE subjects from one tutor in Mumbai works for a science cluster and fails across Maths and English.

  • Paper 6 marks reward procedure: axes, units, scale, best-fit, precautions
  • Parallax, zero error and repeat readings are named skills, not common sense
  • An "explain" answer needs a causal word or it scores nothing
  • Show working on "calculate" so method marks survive arithmetic slips
  • 0510 summary tasks penalise exceeding the word limit, whatever the content
  • Economics 0455 "discuss" needs two sides and then a judgement

Where in Mumbai our IB and IGCSE home tutors travel

Bombay Cambridge International School sits in Andheri East, and its families are spread further than the address suggests. Andheri East itself, Chandivali on the JVLR side, Jogeshwari to the north and Santacruz East down the Western Express Highway all send children to IGCSE schools in this part of Mumbai, and each of those four areas presents a tutor with a different arrival problem at six in the evening. An IB and IGCSE tutor for Bombay Cambridge International School students in Mumbai is therefore matched on travel as much as on syllabus.

In the Western Suburbs we match along the line rather than across it. A tutor living in Santacruz East or Vile Parle reaches Andheri East and Jogeshwari without joining a flyover queue; a tutor in Bandra or Khar West is a weekend option and a weekday liability. Andheri station on the Western Line and Marol on Metro Line 1 matter here, because a tutor who travels by train and walks the last stretch is not sitting on the Western Express Highway at all. Metro Lines 2A and 7 bring Malad, Kandivali and Dahisar tutors down towards Gundavali, which widened the available pool for Andheri East considerably.

Elsewhere in Mumbai the same logic applies with different roads. In the Central Suburbs, Powai, Chandivali, Ghatkopar and Kurla are linked by JVLR, the Santacruz-Chembur Link Road and Metro Line 1, and Powai has no station of its own, so every tutor arrives by road. In the Eastern Suburbs, Chembur, Vikhroli, Bhandup and Mulund run on the Central and Harbour lines with the Eastern Express Highway and the Eastern Freeway behind them. South Mumbai, with Colaba, Cuffe Parade, Worli and Babulnath, is served by the Western and Harbour lines, Metro Line 3 and the Coastal Road, with the Bandra-Worli Sea Link joining it to the Western Suburbs; tutors there are matched inside the island rather than pulled up from the suburbs.

Across the creek, Navi Mumbai works node to node: Vashi, Nerul, Belapur, Kharghar and Panvel sit on the Harbour and Trans-Harbour lines, Palm Beach Road and the Atal Setu, and a Navi Mumbai family is matched to a Navi Mumbai tutor. Thane is its own market, with Pokhran Road, Majiwada and Kasarvadavali strung along Ghodbunder Road. A home tutor for all IB and IGCSE subjects in Mumbai does not exist as one person, but a home tuition pairing covering a science cluster plus a separate language tutor usually does, and that is what most families end up with.

  • Andheri East, Chandivali, Jogeshwari and Santacruz East are the core catchment
  • Andheri station and Marol on Metro Line 1 beat the highway
  • Powai and Chandivali have no station; tutors arrive by road
  • Navi Mumbai families are matched node to node, not across the creek
  • Thane tutors stay in Thane; Ghodbunder Road sets their evening schedule
  • South Mumbai is matched within the island, not down from the suburbs

The Andheri East IGCSE calendar and the Mumbai months that hurt

Bombay Cambridge International School is an IGCSE school in Andheri East, Mumbai, Maharashtra, and that is the limit of what we claim to know about it. IB Gram is independent and not affiliated with Bombay Cambridge International School, so the calendar below is the general shape of a Cambridge school year in Mumbai rather than the school's own dates. Ask the school for its dates, in writing, at the start of the year. Then give them to your tutor, because a tutor's plan should be built backwards from the deadlines and not forwards from the textbook.

The general shape runs like this. The academic year opens in June, which in Mumbai means it opens in the monsoon with attendance patchy for a fortnight and nobody settled until July. Content then runs hard until the Diwali break in October or November. The weeks after Diwali are where Year 11 most often goes wrong, because the mock series usually lands in December or January and the Diwali fortnight is the last unpressured block before it. Families who spend part of that fortnight on one full past paper under timed conditions start January knowing exactly where they stand.

From January the Cambridge May and June series governs everything. Practical tests, where a school enters candidates for Paper 5 rather than Paper 6, are timetabled separately from the written papers and often fall earlier. Coursework and speaking endorsement components carry internal deadlines set by the school well ahead of the external series, so a language speaking test can be finished and submitted before a student has revised a single theory paper. For a student considering a retake, the October and November series exists, but it does not carry every component of every syllabus, which is worth confirming with the school before anybody builds a plan around it.

Other IGCSE and IB schools in this part of Mumbai run broadly parallel calendars: Oberoi International School at Goregaon East on JVLR, Hiranandani Foundation School in Powai, Podar International School in Santacruz and Powai, and Jamnabai Narsee International School in Juhu. We name them as public context only. IB Gram has no relationship with any of them, no connection to Bombay Cambridge International School, and no access to any school's materials, mark schemes, staff or report data, and we will not pretend otherwise when a parent asks us directly.

  • A June start lands in the monsoon; expect a patchy first fortnight
  • July to Diwali is the content block; none of it is revision yet
  • Mocks typically fall in December or January for Year 11
  • Speaking and coursework deadlines are internal and arrive early
  • May and June is the main series; October and November is partial

Is home tuition or online tutoring better for an IGCSE student in Mumbai?

Home tuition first. An IGCSE student who has to set up a call, find a scanner and photograph working will do less practice than one whose tutor is sitting at the dining table with a past paper and a red pen. IB and IGCSE home tuition in Mumbai is IB Gram's lead service for exactly that reason. Online is the right answer for scarce subjects and for mid-week slots that the evening peak would otherwise eat.

The honest trade-off runs like this. An IB and IGCSE home tutor in Mumbai gives you presence: the tutor sees the handwriting, sees the moment the student stops reading the question properly, and can take a script away and mark it against the real criteria. Online gives you reach and punctuality: a tutor in Thane or Navi Mumbai can take a Chemistry 0620 slot in Andheri East that no local tutor would travel to on a Wednesday, and a 45-minute online session starts when it says it will whatever the Western Express Highway is doing. It also gives you a recording, which matters more than parents expect for a student who revises by rewatching an explanation.

Hybrid is what most of our Andheri East families settle into after a month, and it is not a compromise. The weekend session is at home and long enough to sit a full paper with feedback afterwards. The mid-week session is online, short, and spent on the one thing the weekend exposed. For Paper 6 work a shared screen is genuinely better than paper, because a tutor can drop a fresh scanned grid on screen and ask the student to place three points in sixty seconds, then do it again twice more. An IB and IGCSE online tutor in Mumbai is not a lesser tutor; it is a different slot shape.

What online does badly is worth saying plainly: a Year 9 student who has not yet learned to work without supervision, a student whose Maths gaps are in arithmetic rather than method, and any session where the tutor cannot see the page. If your child has a phone in hand during online classes, home tuition is the honest answer and we will say so rather than sell you the cheaper format. Whether you call it an IB and IGCSE private tutor in Mumbai or home tuition, the service is the same, and an IB and IGCSE tutor for Bombay Cambridge International School students in Mumbai should be chosen on slot reliability as much as on subject knowledge.

  • Home tuition: the tutor sees the page, the script and the habits
  • Online: reach into scarce subjects and punctual mid-week slots
  • Hybrid: long weekend session at home, short online session mid-week
  • Recordings help students who revise by rewatching an explanation
  • Online fails where a student needs supervision to stay on task

How a tutor is checked before you meet them, and what you should check yourself

Every tutor profile you receive has been through identity, qualification and board-experience checks before it reaches you. Identity means a government photo document matched to the name on the profile. Qualification means the degree certificate seen, not described. Board experience means the tutor names the syllabus codes and the series they have taught, and a tutor who says "IGCSE Science" rather than "0654 Co-ordinated Sciences, Papers 4 and 6" has not yet demonstrated anything we can pass on to a parent.

Then there is a subject conversation, which is the part that filters most applicants out. We hand the tutor a marked student answer and ask them to say aloud where the marks were lost and what they would do about it next week. A strong tutor talks about the command word and the missing causal step. A weak one talks about effort and attitude. Where a tutor holds a police verification certificate we record it and you can ask to see it; where a tutor does not hold one, we tell you that rather than letting you assume one exists.

What you should check yourself, in the trial session, takes about five minutes. Ask the tutor which papers your child will sit and at which tier, and listen for whether the answer is specific or vague. Ask them to mark one question from your child's last test in front of you and explain the mark allocation out loud. Ask what they would prioritise in the last three weeks before the series, because a tutor who answers "revise everything" has no plan. And ask directly whether they have any connection to your child's school: the correct answer from any IB and IGCSE tutor for Bombay Cambridge International School students in Mumbai is no, because IB Gram is not affiliated with that school and no tutor on this platform has privileged access to it.

One more thing parents skip: the tutor's own honesty about availability. A tutor who agrees to a 7pm Tuesday slot in Andheri East while living in Borivali will be late by week three, and then the slot moves, and then the term's rhythm is gone. We ask tutors to state travel time rather than willingness, which loses us some matches and saves the rest. Parents often ask who the best IB and IGCSE tutor in Mumbai is; the only useful version of that question is who can be at your table, on time, every week until April.

  • Government photo identity matched against the name on the profile
  • Degree certificates seen, not taken on trust
  • Tutors must name syllabus codes and papers, not just subjects
  • A marked-script exercise filters out tutors who talk about effort
  • Ask your tutor to mark one answer in front of you
  • Police verification recorded where held, and stated where absent

Why short frequent sessions beat one long weekly session in Mumbai traffic

Two sixty-minute sessions in a week do more for a Cambridge IGCSE grade than one long session of the same total length, and in Andheri East the travel reality pushes a family the same way. The skills that move IGCSE marks are small and repeatable: place points on a grid, read the command word, show the working, write the causal step. They respond to frequent short repetition, and they decay across a six-day gap in a way that content knowledge does not.

Consider what actually happens inside a single long weekly session. The tutor spends the first part reviewing the week's school content, the middle part on a past paper, and the last part marking it while the student watches. The correction therefore arrives at the end of a tiring block, and the next chance to apply it is six days later, by which time the student has sat four school lessons and two homeworks with the same error baked in. Split the same hours and the correction lands inside twenty-four hours of the mistake, which is the whole mechanism. For Paper 6 skills, three ten-minute grid drills across a week beat thirty minutes in one sitting.

The travel reality then decides which half goes where. Andheri East in the evening peak is slow on every approach: the Western Express Highway, the JVLR side towards Powai and Chandivali, and the Jogeshwari crossing. A tutor who commits to two car journeys a week into that will reschedule one of them, and the one they reschedule is always the mid-week slot. So the long session goes to the weekend or to an early slot straight after school, when a tutor can arrive without fighting the peak at all, and the short mid-week session goes online, where a 45-minute slot starts on time and costs nobody an hour in each direction.

There is a third option worth knowing about, which is matching for the train rather than the road. Tutors who reach Andheri station on the Western Line or Marol on Metro Line 1 and walk the last stretch arrive inside a predictable ten-minute window whatever the highway is doing, because the train does not queue. When a family asks for all IB and IGCSE subjects home classes in Mumbai across two or three subjects, this is how a standing weekday slot survives a full term: match the tutor who can come by train for the weekday session, and put the car-dependent specialist on the weekend.

  • Two shorter sessions beat one long one at the same total hours
  • Correction inside twenty-four hours stops an error becoming a habit
  • Paper 6 grid work suits ten-minute drills, not thirty-minute blocks
  • Long session at the weekend or straight after school, not at 7pm
  • Short mid-week session online, where the start time is reliable
  • Match a tutor who can arrive by train, not only by car

What should progress look like after four weeks, one term and one exam cycle?

At four weeks you should see a change in how your child works, not in the grade. At one term you should see a measurable shift on one specific paper type. At one exam cycle you should see a grade consistent with the tier your child was entered for. IB Gram does not guarantee grades, and any tutor who offers you one is telling you something they cannot possibly know.

Four weeks is diagnosis plus habit. Concretely: working is shown on calculation questions, the command word is marked before the answer is written, a past-paper question is attempted before the notes are opened, and the student can tell you which papers they sit and at which tier. None of that shows up as a better test score yet, and it is the only thing that reliably produces one later. If none of it has changed after four weeks, something is wrong with the match and you should say so rather than waiting politely for the term to end.

One term is where a number should move, but only in one place. A student who was losing marks on Physics 0625 Paper 6 should be scoring on the plotting and precaution questions even if the theory grade is still flat. A Mathematics 0580 Extended candidate who was abandoning Paper 4 structured questions halfway should be finishing them. Broad improvement across everything in a single term is usually a sign of an easier paper rather than a better student. Ask your tutor which one paper type they are targeting this term, write it down, and hold them to it at the end.

The honest limits matter more than the promises. A tutor cannot replace attendance, cannot compress two missing years of foundation algebra into six weeks before a May series, and cannot raise a Core candidate above the Core ceiling, which is grade C whatever anybody tells you. If a child arrives in February of Year 11 with half the syllabus unlearned, the useful conversation is about which grade is reachable and which papers to protect, not about an A*. We would much rather have that conversation in the first week than in April.

  • Four weeks: shown working, marked command words, past papers before notes
  • One term: one named paper type measurably better, not everything at once
  • One exam cycle: a grade consistent with the tier entered
  • A Core entry cannot exceed grade C, whatever a tutor promises
  • Say something at week four if the habits have not changed

Booking an IB and IGCSE home tutor in Mumbai: what to prepare

Send four things and the first shortlist is usually accurate: the year group and tier, the subject list with syllabus codes if you have them, two or three slot windows that are genuinely free, and a photograph of one marked script. The marked script is the thing that does the work. Everything else can be corrected in a phone call, but a real piece of your child's marked writing cannot be described second-hand and cannot be faked.

The first session is diagnostic and should feel like it. Expect the tutor to put a past-paper question in front of your child inside the first fifteen minutes rather than teaching, to ask the student to talk through a wrong answer in their own words, and to leave with one specific target for the following week. A first session spent on introductions and a syllabus overview is a wasted session and you are entitled to say so. By the end of it you should have a written plan naming the papers being targeted and the order they will be worked on.

What IB and IGCSE tuition fees in Mumbai depend on, since we publish no price list: the board and level, because DP Higher Level work carries a heavier marking load than IGCSE Core; subject scarcity, because an Economics 0455 or Computer Science 0478 specialist is rarer than a Maths tutor and priced accordingly; travel distance and whether the slot falls in the evening peak, because a tutor crossing from Chembur to Andheri East in the peak is selling you two hours of their day for one hour of teaching; session length and frequency, since two shorter sessions carry two travel costs; and whether the format is home, online or hybrid. Ask for the per-session figure and the number of sessions a month in the same sentence, so you are comparing the same thing between tutors.

If a tutor is not working out, tell us in writing and the replacement is handled rather than negotiated. We ask for one reason, because it improves the next match: slot reliability, subject depth, or the student simply not talking in sessions are three different problems with three different solutions. There is no notice period and no obligation to continue a block you have already paid for beyond the sessions actually taught.

  • Send year group, tier, subject list and two free slot windows
  • Photograph one marked script; it beats any written description
  • First session is diagnostic: a past paper inside fifteen minutes
  • Ask for the per-session fee and monthly session count together
  • Replacement needs one written reason and no notice period
FAQs

Mumbai tutoring — questions parents ask

Is IB Gram connected to Bombay Cambridge International School in any way?+

No. IB Gram is an independent tutoring platform and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to Bombay Cambridge International School. We name the school because parents search for it, and because a tutor's plan has to fit the school's calendar. We have no access to its mark schemes, its internal assessment materials, its staff or its report data, and no tutor on our platform has or claims such access. If a tutor ever implies otherwise, tell us and we will drop them from your shortlist. An IB and IGCSE tutor for Bombay Cambridge International School students in Mumbai works from the published Cambridge syllabus and your child's own marked scripts, and nothing else.

What do IB and IGCSE tuition fees in Mumbai depend on?+

Board and level first, then subject scarcity, travel and format. IB Diploma Higher Level work is priced above IGCSE Core because the subject depth and the marking load are genuinely different. A scarce subject specialist costs more than a Maths tutor, simply because fewer of them exist. Travel weighs more heavily in Mumbai than almost anywhere else: a tutor crossing two suburbs in the evening peak gives up two hours for one hour of teaching, and that sits inside the rate. Session length, frequency and whether the slot is home, online or hybrid finish the calculation. We publish no price list because any single figure would be wrong for most of these combinations.

Should my child take Core or Extended Mathematics 0580?+

Extended if a grade above C matters or if IB Maths is the plan; Core if the grade only needs to be secure. Cambridge Core papers in Mathematics 0580 award grades C to G, so a Core entry cannot produce a B however well the papers go on the day. Extended means Papers 2 and 4 and a larger syllabus, including functions, set notation and harder trigonometry. The entry decision belongs to the school rather than to us, but the preparation window is Year 10, not the February before the series. A tutor's first job in Year 9 is keeping the Extended route genuinely available.

My child is in Year 9. Is it too early for a tutor?+

Year 9 is the cheapest year in which to fix things, so no. The IGCSE content load in Years 10 and 11 assumes Year 9 algebra, graph skills and scientific vocabulary are already secure, and a child who reaches Year 10 shaky in those has no spare time to go back for them. In Year 9 a tutor is usually working one session a week on foundations and exam habits rather than grinding past papers, which costs less and achieves more than the same spend in Year 11. It is also the year in which the Extended tier is still freely available in every subject.

Can a tutor actually reach Andheri East for a weekday evening session?+

Yes, if the tutor is matched for the commute and not only for the subject. For home tuition in Andheri East, Chandivali, Jogeshwari or Santacruz East we prefer tutors who can reach you by train or on Metro Line 1 and walk the last stretch, because Andheri station and Marol give a predictable arrival window that the Western Express Highway does not. Where the only suitable subject specialist is car-dependent, we put that tutor on a weekend or straight-after-school slot and run the mid-week session online instead. A 7pm weekday car slot across two suburbs tends to fail by week three.

Does a parent need to be at home during a home tuition session?+

No, but somebody should be, and the study space matters more than the supervision does. Home classes work best at a table in a shared room with the door open rather than in a bedroom, with the phone out of the room and the television off. Most of our Mumbai families have a grandparent or house help present, which is entirely enough. What we do ask is that the same space is available at the same time every week, because a tutor who is moved from the dining table to a bedroom to a balcony across three weeks loses several minutes of every session simply settling in.

What happens if the tutor is late or misses a session?+

A missed session is made up or credited, and persistent lateness is a reason to change tutors rather than something to tolerate. Mumbai traffic means a genuine fifteen-minute delay happens to everybody, and we ask tutors to message the moment they know. What is not acceptable is a pattern: three late arrivals in a month usually means the slot was never realistic for where that tutor lives. Tell us and we will either move the slot, move that session online, or shortlist someone who lives closer. Society gate passes are worth arranging once, in advance, so that the gate is never the reason for the delay.

Does online tutoring work for practical papers like Paper 6?+

For Paper 6, the alternative to practical, online works well; for Paper 5, the timetabled practical test, it does not. Paper 6 is a paper-based skills test covering plotting, best-fit lines, precautions, anomalous readings, parallax and repeat readings. All of that can be drilled on a shared screen, and in some ways better, because a tutor can put a fresh grid up every ninety seconds. Paper 5 needs hands on real apparatus, which the school provides and we do not. If your child is entered for Paper 5, the useful tutoring is on recording and processing results, and that is still mostly paper work.

There has been no progress after a month. What should I do?+

Say so immediately, in writing, and ask the tutor for the specific target they set in week one. At four weeks the honest expectation is changed habits rather than changed grades: working shown, command words read properly, past papers attempted before the notes come out. If even those have not moved, the usual causes are a mismatched tutor, a slot too late in the evening for the child to concentrate, or a diagnosis that was simply wrong about where the marks were going. All three are fixable, and all three get worse with another month of politeness. We will arrange a replacement without an argument.

How do I replace a tutor who is not working out?+

Message us with one reason and the replacement is arranged; you owe nothing beyond the sessions already taught. The reason matters only because it improves the next match. Slot reliability means we shortlist by location next time. Subject depth means we go for a specialist in that syllabus code rather than a capable generalist. "My child does not talk in sessions" usually points to a different teaching style rather than a weaker tutor. There is no notice period, no exit conversation and no pressure to continue a paid block. For common subjects a replacement is usually in place within a few days.

Can one tutor cover all my child's IB and IGCSE subjects?+

Usually not, and you should be wary of anyone who says yes. One tutor can genuinely cover a science cluster, or Maths with Additional Mathematics 0606, or two languages, because the mark schemes and command words overlap enough to transfer. Asking for all IB and IGCSE subjects from one tutor in Mumbai across Maths, Physics, Economics and English means getting someone shallow in at least two of them. The arrangement most families end up with is one tutor for the Maths and science side and another for languages and humanities, with the two slots on different days of the week.

Do you have tutors for the IB Diploma after IGCSE?+

Yes, and planning that handover during Year 11 is worth the effort. The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) is a different animal from Cambridge IGCSE: Internal Assessment (IA) coursework, the Extended Essay (EE), Theory of Knowledge (TOK) and the Higher Level and Standard Level split all arrive at once in DP1. An IGCSE Extended Mathematics 0580 candidate has the foundation for Maths at Higher Level; a Core candidate generally does not. We match DP tutors across Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai the same way, by component rather than by subject name, so a tutor is shortlisted for Physics Paper 2 at Higher Level and the IA, not for "Physics".

Find your Mumbai tutor

Send your child's year group, tier, subject list and two genuinely free evening windows. Within a working day you get two or three tutor profiles naming the syllabus codes each has taught, plus a suggested session shape built around your evening traffic rather than against it. You pay for one trial session, meet the tutor at home or online, then confirm the weekly slot or ask for somebody different. Nothing is block-booked before you have met a tutor.
