How do we match an IB and IGCSE home tutor for BD Somani International School students in Mumbai?

Send us the year group, the board, the subjects and your Cuffe Parade address, and within a working day you get two or three tutor profiles. Each one has already confirmed the evening slot you asked for and has agreed the trip south. You meet one, run a paid trial session in your own flat, and say yes or no without pressure.

For most Mumbai addresses we filter by subject first and by travel second, because in Andheri West or Powai there are usually several qualified people within half an hour and the only real question is which of them teaches your child's exact level. At the southern tip of the island that order reverses. Travel is the filter that removes most of the list, so we apply it first and then look for subject fit inside whatever survives. It is a less comfortable way to work and it is the only honest one. A profile that reads perfectly and cannot hold a Tuesday evening in Cuffe Parade for eleven consecutive weeks is not a match; it is a disappointment with a delay built into it. Parents type IB and IGCSE tutors near me in Mumbai and get a national directory back. What you actually need is the much shorter list of people for whom your address is a reasonable Tuesday.

So the intake questions are blunt. What time does your child physically walk through the door, not what time the school day ends. Will an adult be in the flat. Which tower, which lift bank, and does your gate want a name in advance or a call to the resident. Which subjects, at which level, and what did the last piece of marked work actually say. If your child is in the Diploma Programme, which internal assessments are live right now and which are only scheduled. We ask the family these things because we only ever ask the family. IB Gram holds no information from B.D. Somani International School and requests none from it.

What we will not do matters as much. We do not promise a grade. We do not claim to know any school's internal deadline sheet, and a tutor who claims it should worry you rather than reassure you. We do not describe anyone as a former examiner unless that tutor says it, and when they do we label it as their own unverified claim. And where the geography genuinely does not work for the slot you want, we say there is nobody rather than sending someone who will quit in week four. A home tutor for all IB and IGCSE subjects in Mumbai is an easy thing to advertise and a hard thing to deliver to one address at the end of the island.

  • 1. Send the year group, board, subjects and your Cuffe Parade address.
  • 2. We filter first for who can hold that evening slot at the southern tip.
  • 3. Two or three verified profiles arrive with qualifications and confirmed free evenings.
  • 4. Meet one tutor for a paid trial session in your own flat.
  • 5. Say the word and a replacement is arranged, with no case to argue.

IGCSE Years 9-11 and the IB Diploma Programme under one roof in Cuffe Parade

B.D. Somani International School sits in Cuffe Parade, South Mumbai, and publicly offers an IGCSE pathway and an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) pathway. That is the whole of what this page says about the school, and it is all a tutoring platform has any business saying. IB Gram is an independent matching service and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to B.D. Somani International School in any form.

A school that runs Cambridge IGCSE into the Diploma Programme rather than the Middle Years Programme (MYP) into DP asks something specific of its students at one specific moment. IGCSE rewards a clean, correct answer produced alone against a clock. The Diploma Programme rewards a documented process: an Internal Assessment (IA) in almost every subject, an Extended Essay (EE), and Theory of Knowledge (TOK). A student who was comfortable at IGCSE because she was quick and accurate can stall badly in DP1, not because the content got harder but because nobody is grading speed any more. The skill being assessed changed and nobody announced it.

In the Diploma Programme a student takes six subjects, three at Higher Level (HL) and three at Standard Level (SL), plus TOK, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. HL is not SL with extra homework. It adds additional higher level content, longer papers and in several subjects an extra option, and the jump in workload is concentrated in DP2 rather than spread evenly. The choice gets made at the end of Year 11, usually in the same weeks the IGCSE revision is at its worst, which is the least clear-headed fortnight of the two-year run.

At IGCSE the equivalent fork is Core versus Extended. In Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580, Core candidates sit Papers 1 and 3 with grades C to G available, while Extended candidates sit Papers 2 and 4 with grades A* to E available. Moving a child down to Core to protect against a weak result can also quietly remove the grade a Diploma Programme Mathematics course expects two years later. Schools across Mumbai run Cambridge International Education syllabuses and, less often, Pearson Edexcel ones, and the tier names differ between them, so the first thing a tutor should ask for is the syllabus code printed on the front of the paper. IB Gram covers all IB and IGCSE subjects at IGCSE Years 9-11 level with tutors in Mumbai who teach that exact code.

  • IGCSE Years 9-11, then the Diploma Programme years, inside one school
  • Six DP subjects: three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level
  • Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS sit alongside the six
  • Core versus Extended at IGCSE changes which grades are even available
  • Cambridge International Education and Pearson Edexcel name their tiers differently

Subject choice, HL and SL, Core and Extended: where the marks actually sit

Every Diploma Programme subject carries an internal assessment, and they are not variations on one task. The sciences ask for a scientific investigation. Mathematics asks for an exploration, a written mathematical piece with no time limit and no question paper. Economics asks for three commentaries built on real news articles. History asks for a historical investigation with a source evaluation. Business Management asks for a research project. The language subjects run oral components recorded and marked internally. A tutor who is strong on DP Physics papers but has never supervised an exploration is half a tutor for a DP2 Mathematics student in November, and the gap shows up exactly when there is no time to fix it.

The Mathematics route choice is the one families ask about most. Analysis and Approaches leans on algebraic technique, proof and calculus. Applications and Interpretation leans on modelling, statistics and the use of technology. Engineering and most mathematics-heavy degree courses tend to expect Analysis and Approaches, often at Higher Level, but entry requirements vary by country and by university, so treat that as a reason to check specific course pages rather than as a rule. A tutor can tell you honestly whether your child can hold Analysis and Approaches at HL after seeing two timed papers. A counsellor can tell you whether she needs to.

On the IGCSE side the practical route matters more than parents expect. Cambridge IGCSE sciences are examined with either Paper 5, a practical test done in a laboratory, or Paper 6, the alternative to practical written on paper. Students who have been taught content well still lose marks here, and not on chemistry or physics knowledge: they lose them on naming the independent and dependent variables, choosing sensible intervals, reading a scale to the correct precision, drawing a line that respects the data, and identifying the anomalous point instead of quietly including it. Those are trainable in a handful of sessions and almost never get trained in class.

IB Gram lists all IB and IGCSE subjects and matches tutors in Mumbai against the exact level, syllabus code and component your child is sitting, rather than against a subject name. Scarcity is the thing that then bends the match. Higher Level Economics, Further Mathematics, Language B German, DP Psychology and Visual Arts have far smaller tutor pools than Mathematics, Physics or English, and at a Cuffe Parade address a small pool meets a halved catchment. For those subjects we will usually say early that hybrid or online is the realistic shape of the arrangement, rather than letting you wait four weeks for a home tutor who does not exist.

  • Sciences: the scientific investigation, marked out of 24 across four criteria
  • Mathematics: the exploration, a written piece rather than a timed paper
  • Economics: three commentaries built on genuine published news articles
  • IGCSE sciences: Paper 5 practical test or Paper 6 alternative to practical
  • Scarce subjects widen the travel radius and push a family towards hybrid

Why a Cuffe Parade tutor's catchment in Mumbai is a semicircle, not a circle

Draw a forty-five minute travel circle around a Powai address and you get a circle. Draw the same circle around Cuffe Parade and half of it is water. The reclaimed southern tip of the island city has the Arabian Sea on one side, the harbour on the other and naval land and open water below it, so every tutor who reaches your door arrives from the north. The usable pool is roughly half what the same radius gives a family in Worli or Dadar. That is geometry, not marketing, and it is the single fact that should shape how you search.

There are two ways down. The western approach runs Marine Drive, Nariman Point and Churchgate, fed from Peddar Road and increasingly from the Coastal Road, which has taken a genuine bite out of the Worli to Nariman Point run outside peak hours. The eastern approach runs P D'Mello Road and Ballard Estate off the Eastern Freeway, which drops a tutor from Wadala or Chembur into Fort faster than a map suggests. Churchgate station is the southern terminus of the Western Line and CSMT the terminus of the Central and Harbour lines, which is why a tutor living anywhere along those lines can reach you and a tutor living off them often cannot. Metro Line 3, the Aqua line, now runs from Cuffe Parade up to BKC and has quietly rewritten the arithmetic: a tutor in Bandra East or BKC who would never have taken a seven o'clock slot down here can now take it and still be home at a sane hour.

By zone, here is who realistically travels. Within South Mumbai, tutors in Colaba, Fort, Churchgate, Marine Lines, Girgaon, Byculla, Breach Candy and Altamount Road are the core pool and the ones who hold a slot for a full term. From the Western Suburbs, Bandra West, Khar West, Santacruz West and Andheri West tutors come down the Western Express Highway and the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, which is workable at the weekend or early evening and punishing at six on a Wednesday. The Central Suburbs, meaning Powai, Chandivali, Kurla and Ghatkopar East, reach the island by the Eastern Express Highway, JVLR and the SCLR, and Metro Lines 1, 2A and 7 get those tutors to a station rather than to your gate. The Eastern Suburbs, Chembur, Wadala, Govandi and Vikhroli, are closer than they look thanks to the Eastern Freeway. Navi Mumbai nodes such as Vashi, Nerul, Belapur and Kharghar are one Atal Setu crossing and a Palm Beach Road run away, which makes a weekend session possible and a Tuesday one unlikely. Thane, from Pokhran Road out along Ghodbunder Road, is out of range for a weekly evening lesson at this address and we will say so rather than let you find out in November.

The practical consequence is that an IB and IGCSE tutor for BD Somani International School students in Mumbai is, in almost every case that lasts a full year, based in South Mumbai or somewhere along the Metro Line 3 corridor. The ones who last longest are the ones who already teach another family in Cuffe Parade, Colaba or Nariman Point, because for them your Thursday is an addition to a trip they were already making rather than a round trip justified by one hour.

  • Western approach: Marine Drive, Nariman Point, Churchgate, Peddar Road, the Coastal Road
  • Eastern approach: P D'Mello Road and Ballard Estate off the Eastern Freeway
  • Churchgate station ends the Western Line; CSMT ends the Central and Harbour lines
  • Metro Line 3 puts BKC and Bandra East tutors back inside the catchment
  • Thane and the far Navi Mumbai nodes: weekend sessions only, realistically

Which months decide the year for a B.D. Somani family, and when should you book?

October and November decide a Diploma Programme year and February decides an IGCSE one, and both are set by the boards rather than by any individual school. Cambridge IGCSE candidates sit the main series in May and June, with school mocks usually in January or February. IB DP candidates registered for the May session meet internal assessment drafts clustering through the autumn of DP2, then mocks in February, then a short run to the papers.

The Extended Essay runs on a longer leash and is usually worse for it. A first full draft is normally wanted in the autumn of DP2, which lands directly on top of the internal assessment pile rather than in the gap families imagine. Theory of Knowledge adds an essay written on one of the prescribed titles released for each session, drafted in the same window, with the exhibition sitting earlier in the course. Put those together and a DP2 student in the island city is being asked, inside roughly eight weeks, to produce a science investigation, a mathematics exploration, a TOK essay draft and a full Extended Essay draft, while classes carry on as though none of it were happening.

For a Year 10 or Year 11 student the pressure points sit elsewhere. Speaking and coursework components come early in the year, mocks land in January, and then there is a long revision run into the May and June series. A household with one child in Year 11 and another in DP2 is running both calendars at one dining table, and from October to February that table becomes a scheduling problem before it becomes a study space. Families at the southern end of the island also send children to Cathedral and John Connon School in Fort, which publicly runs IGCSE and IB DP pathways as well, so the same weeks put the same pressure on the same small pool of tutors across Cuffe Parade, Colaba and Fort at once.

That combination is the reason this page exists. The independence point bears repeating here, because a page named after a school invites exactly the wrong assumption: IB Gram is an independent platform, not affiliated with B.D. Somani International School, and nothing a tutor arranges through us is sanctioned by, coordinated with or known to the school. We hold no internal deadline sheet, no mark schemes and no report data, and we do not ask for any. A tutor works from the task sheet your child brings home, the published assessment criteria and past papers that anyone can obtain.

  • May and June: the main Cambridge IGCSE examination series
  • January and February: school mocks for both IGCSE and Diploma cohorts
  • September to November: Diploma Programme internal assessment drafts stack up
  • Autumn of DP2: the Extended Essay full draft and the TOK essay
  • August: the month to book if you want an actual choice of tutors

Home tuition, online or hybrid when your address is the end of the road?

Home tuition is the default here and it should be. A tutor sitting in your flat sees the real folder, the real half-finished draft and the real desk, and your child is not travelling anywhere at seven in the evening in South Mumbai. The honest trade-off is cost of time: at the southern tip a tutor's travel is one-directional, so an hour in your home costs that tutor more of the evening than the same hour costs in Lower Parel or Dadar.

Online widens the catchment from a semicircle to the whole country, and that matters most where the subject is scarce. An IB and IGCSE online tutor in Mumbai, or outside it entirely, is frequently the only way to get weekly Higher Level Economics, Further Mathematics or Language B German at all. Online also works well for a forty-minute internal assessment check-in, for marking a draft on a shared screen where both of you can see the criteria alongside the text, and for the fortnight before mocks when nobody wants to be in a car. It works poorly for a fourteen-year-old who stops writing the moment the camera stops being interesting, and no amount of software fixes that.

Hybrid is what most families at this address settle into once the novelty of either extreme wears off. One home session a week carries the long working block, where the tutor can watch the pen and interrupt at the right second. One shorter online session mid-week carries the review, the marked draft and the question that came up in class on Monday. Hybrid is also what survives a monsoon week, an exam-season traffic collapse and the fortnight when the Coastal Road or Peddar Road decides to misbehave. The weekly rhythm holds even when the city does not.

IB and IGCSE home tuition for BD Somani International School students in Mumbai works best as a fixed weekly appointment rather than a flexible one. Flexible slots are the ones that quietly evaporate: a tutor who holds Thursday at 6:30 for your child will protect it, and a tutor who agrees to find an hour somewhere each week will find it in September and lose it by late October. Pick the day, pin it, and register the tutor at your gate for that recurring day so nothing depends on anyone answering a phone.

  • Home tuition: the real folder, the real desk, and no evening commute
  • Online: the whole country's pool for scarce Higher Level subjects
  • Hybrid: one home session weekly plus a short online review midweek
  • Monsoon weeks and exam-season traffic are what hybrid actually protects
  • A fixed weekly slot beats a flexible one that quietly disappears

What IB Gram checks about a tutor in Mumbai, and what you should check yourself

Before a profile reaches you, IB Gram checks government photo identity, the degree or qualification being claimed, the subjects and levels the tutor says they teach, and their prior teaching or tutoring experience, with at least one reference spoken to rather than emailed. The checks behind any IB and IGCSE home tutor in Mumbai are the same whichever school the student attends, and they do not change because a page carries a school's name. An IB and IGCSE home tutor for BD Somani International School students in Mumbai clears the same list as a tutor matched to a family in Kandivali.

What we cannot verify, we say we cannot verify. There is no public register of IB examiners, so when a tutor states that they have examined, we pass the statement on labelled as the tutor's own claim and leave you to weigh it. We cannot verify anything about any school's internal processes and would not attempt to. Tutors on this platform are not staff of B.D. Somani International School, hold no relationship with it, and IB Gram is not affiliated with it. An IB and IGCSE private tutor in Mumbai arranged here is exactly that: a private arrangement between your family and one individual, introduced by an independent platform that takes no position on your child's school.

Your own checks matter more than ours, because you are the one in the room. In the trial session, ask the tutor to work through one past paper question out loud so you can hear how they explain rather than whether they know. Ask which syllabus edition and which first-assessment year they teach to, because syllabuses change and a tutor coasting on a retired version will cost you marks. Ask them to mark one page of your child's existing work in front of you, against the published criteria, and listen for whether the feedback is specific enough to act on tonight. Ask what they will do in the first three weeks, and whether the answer is a plan or a mood.

The warning signs are consistent. A tutor who guarantees an outcome, who offers you another school's internal material, who cannot name the components of the subject they claim to teach, or who wants payment for a term before the first session has happened, is telling you something useful. So is a tutor who will not commit to a fixed weekly day at a Cuffe Parade address. Down here that reluctance usually means the travel does not work for them and they have not said so yet.

  • Government photo identity and the stated qualification, checked before you see a profile
  • Subjects and levels confirmed against the syllabus code, not a job title
  • At least one reference spoken to rather than collected by email
  • Examiner claims passed on as the tutor's own claim, clearly unverified
  • Ask any tutor to mark one page of your child's work in front of you

Booking ahead of the internal assessment season instead of inside it

Take one concrete component: the Diploma Programme Chemistry scientific investigation. It is worth twenty per cent of the final Chemistry grade at both Higher Level and Standard Level, and it is marked out of 24 across four criteria worth six marks each: Research design, Data analysis, Conclusion and Evaluation. A DP1 student told in late August to begin it has, on paper, months. In practice the design decisions that set the ceiling on all four criteria get made in the first three weeks, and almost every mark lost in the final draft was lost back then.

Research design wants a focused research question with a measurable dependent variable and a methodology that justifies its choices. A student who writes that she will investigate how concentration affects reaction rate, tests three concentrations once each, and lists controlled variables without saying how they were held, has capped herself long before she writes a word of the report. Five concentrations across a justified range, three trials at each, and a sentence explaining why that range and not a wider one is a different piece of work for roughly the same lab time. Data analysis then wants the processing shown rather than asserted, uncertainties carried through the calculation rather than quoted once at the start, and graphs where error bars are present because they mean something. Conclusion wants the result set against an accepted value or an established relationship and the comparison actually interpreted. Evaluation wants weaknesses that demonstrably affected these data and improvements that a school laboratory could really implement, not a line about using more precise equipment.

None of that is hard to teach. All of it is nearly impossible to teach in the week the draft is due, because by then the data exist and the design is fixed. The useful tutor hours on this component sit in September and the first half of October, while the student is still choosing. That is the timing argument this page is built on, and it runs straight into the supply problem: the catchment at Cuffe Parade is a semicircle, the October demand across every Diploma cohort in the island city arrives in the same fortnight, and the South Mumbai tutors with free weekday evenings are spoken for by late September.

So book in the second half of August for a DP student, and at the start of the school year for a Year 11. Then be realistic about who the match will be, because an IB or IGCSE home tutor for BD Somani International School students in Mumbai is drawn from a short list rather than a long one. The tutor most likely to still be arriving in February is the one who already teaches a family in Cuffe Parade, Colaba or Nariman Point, because your slot is an extension of a journey rather than a journey of its own. Ask us directly whether a shortlisted tutor already works down here; it is a fair question and it predicts retention better than any qualification on the profile. One line that should go without saying and will not: the investigation has to be the student's own work. A tutor can teach experimental design, challenge a research question and mark a draft against the published criteria. A tutor who writes any part of it has handed your child an academic honesty problem, and IB Gram does not guarantee grades or do coursework.

  • Research design: focused question, justified range, controls named and genuinely held
  • Data analysis: processing shown, uncertainties propagated, error bars that earn their place
  • Conclusion: the result compared with an accepted value and that comparison interpreted
  • Evaluation: weaknesses that affected these data, improvements a school lab could run
  • The useful tutor hours are in September, not the week the draft is due

What does progress look like at four weeks, one term and one exam cycle?

At four weeks you should not be looking for a grade. You should be looking for three things: your child can say what a question is asking before attempting it, homework gets started without a negotiation, and the tutor can name three specific weaknesses in a sentence each. If the tutor's summary after four weeks is that your child is doing well and needs confidence, that is not a diagnosis and you should push for one. Parents ask us for the best IB and IGCSE tutor in Mumbai, and there is no such person in the abstract; there is only the person who can describe your child's actual problem accurately in week four.

At one term, the honest measure is method rather than marks. An IGCSE Mathematics student who is still sitting on the same grade boundary but is now losing marks to arithmetic slips rather than to not knowing the method has moved a long way, and the grade will follow in the next cycle. A DP student whose internal assessment draft comes back with comments about the depth of the evaluation rather than the structure of the report has moved up a level in the conversation. Ask the tutor to show you marked work from week two beside marked work from week twelve. If the difference is not visible on the page, the term did not work.

At one exam cycle, grades move, and sometimes they do not. IB Gram does not guarantee grades, and neither should any tutor or platform you speak to. Nobody controls what happens in the hall, how boundaries fall in a particular session, or whether a student who prepared well is ill that week. What tutoring reliably does is remove the losses that were avoidable: the component never practised under time, the criterion never read, the paper whose structure the student met for the first time in the exam. That is a real and worthwhile change and it is not the same as a promise.

Two more honest limits. One subject at one session a week will not rescue four subjects, and parents who start in January with a DP2 student sitting May papers should expect triage rather than transformation. And a tutor who after six weeks still cannot tell you specifically what is wrong is not going to find out in week ten. Changing then is not failure, it is the correct decision made at the only point where it still buys you something.

  • Four weeks: better questions and a clear diagnosis, not a better grade
  • One term: the same grade with visibly better method is real progress
  • One exam cycle: where grades move, and sometimes where they do not
  • Red flag: a tutor who supervises homework and never diagnoses anything
  • Six weeks with no specific diagnosis is reason enough to change tutor

Starting IB and IGCSE home tuition in South Mumbai: what to have ready

Five things make the first session useful instead of introductory. The subject list with levels and syllabus codes. The last piece of marked work rather than the last report card, because a report card tells a tutor a grade and a marked script tells a tutor why. The current task sheet if an internal assessment is live. The examination series your child is registered for. And the evening your child is genuinely home, fed and still awake, which at a Cuffe Parade address is usually later than parents first suggest.

Handle the building before session one, not after. Register the tutor's name, the day and the time window with your society office so entry is routine, tell the tutor which gate and which lift bank, and decide where the session happens. A table that is not the dining table during dinner, with a plug point and a door, beats a nicer room that gets claimed at eight o'clock. These sound like small things and they are the difference between fifty-five usable minutes and forty.

The first session should be a diagnostic, not a lesson. Expect the tutor to set a short timed piece, mark it in front of your child, and leave with a written plan naming the components to be attacked and in what order. If they teach for sixty minutes and leave without telling you what is wrong, that was a demonstration rather than an assessment. IB Gram matches tutors across all IB and IGCSE subjects in home classes across Mumbai, from South Mumbai up through the Western, Central and Eastern Suburbs to Navi Mumbai and Thane, and the diagnostic standard is the same everywhere.

One last repetition, because it is the thing that most needs saying on a page like this. IB Gram is an independent platform and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to B.D. Somani International School, and we do not guarantee grades. What we do is introduce you to a checked tutor who can actually reach your door on the evening you named, and replace them without an argument if the fit is wrong.

  • Have the subject list with levels and syllabus codes written down
  • Find the last marked piece of work, not the last report card
  • Confirm the evening your child is genuinely home, fed and awake
  • Settle the gate pass and the lift bank before session one
  • Clear a table that is not the dining table at dinner time
FAQs

Mumbai tutoring — questions parents ask

Is IB Gram connected to B.D. Somani International School in any way?+

No. IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to B.D. Somani International School. We are not a vendor, a sponsor or an approved supplier to it, and no tutor introduced here represents the school or speaks for it. We name the school on this page only as public context, because parents searching for subject help naturally search by the school their child attends. Every arrangement is made directly between your family and an individual tutor, and the school plays no part in it at any stage.

Can a home tutor realistically reach Cuffe Parade for a 7pm evening slot on a weekday?+

Usually yes, provided the tutor already lives or already teaches in South Mumbai. Someone based in Colaba, Fort, Churchgate or Girgaon treats Cuffe Parade as a short hop and will hold the slot all year. Someone in Andheri West or Thane is making a one-way run down the Western Express Highway into the evening peak and will not sustain it past week five, whatever is promised in week one. That is exactly why we filter for geography before subject at this address, and why we would rather tell you there is nobody than send a tutor who drops the slot in November.

Does a tutor need a fresh gate pass every week at our building in Cuffe Parade?+

It depends on your building, and it is worth settling in the first week rather than the fourth. Most towers here will register a recurring visitor if a resident puts the name, the day and the time window in writing with the society office, after which the tutor signs in at the gate and goes up without a call to your flat. Some buildings still want a photo identity scan on every visit. Ask your manager before the trial session and tell the tutor which lift bank to use, because ten wasted minutes a week is about four lost hours across a term.

When should we book a tutor if we want a slot before the October assessment crunch?+

The second half of August for a Diploma Programme student, and the start of the school year for an IGCSE Year 11. South Mumbai tutors with free weekday evenings are largely taken by late September, because every DP2 cohort on the island starts its internal assessment push in roughly the same fortnight. The catchment at this end of the city is already about half the size of a central Mumbai one, so the squeeze bites earlier and harder here than it does in Powai or Andheri. Booking in August costs you nothing beyond starting early, and it is the difference between choosing a tutor and accepting whoever is left.

What do IB and IGCSE tuition fees in Mumbai depend on?+

Board and level first, then subject scarcity, then travel, then session length. A Diploma Programme Higher Level subject costs more per hour than IGCSE Year 9 support because far fewer people can teach it properly. A scarce subject such as Further Mathematics or Language B German costs more again. Travel is a genuine cost at this end of the island, since a tutor crossing into South Mumbai surrenders an evening rather than an hour. We publish no price list and invent no figures; you get a quote per tutor before you meet them, and home tuition is always quoted separately from online.

Would an online tutor work instead, for Diploma Programme subjects?+

For some students and some tasks, yes. An IB and IGCSE online tutor in Mumbai or anywhere else in India is often the only realistic option for a scarce Higher Level subject, and online is genuinely good for marking an internal assessment draft on a shared screen or running a short weekly check-in. It is weaker for a student who needs someone beside them to notice that the pen has stopped moving. Most families at this address end up with one home session a week for the long working block and one online session for review, which is also the arrangement that survives a bad traffic month.

We are choosing between Core and Extended IGCSE Mathematics. Can a tutor help with that call?+

Yes, and it is one of the better uses of four weeks of tutoring. In Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580, Core candidates sit Papers 1 and 3 with grades C to G available, while Extended candidates sit Papers 2 and 4 with grades A* to E available. Dropping to Core protects against a weak result and can also close off a Diploma Programme Mathematics route two years later. A tutor should set a timed Extended Paper 2 and Paper 4 early, mark them against the published mark scheme and tell you what the real gap is. Your school makes the entry decision; evidence makes the conversation easier.

The tutor is not working out after three sessions. How does a replacement happen?+

You message us and say so, and you do not have to build a case for it. We end the arrangement, ask one question about what was missing so the next profile is better aimed, and send a replacement who has confirmed the same weekly slot. In South Mumbai that replacement usually takes a few days longer than it would in the Western Suburbs, for the same catchment reason the rest of this page describes, so tell us at session three rather than session eight. A tutor who is wrong in week two does not become right in week nine, and waiting only costs you the better months.

We are in November of DP2 and have only started looking now. Is it too late?+

It is late rather than hopeless, and what you should ask for changes. In November the useful work is triage: one subject, the component with the most marks still movable, and a tutor who marks against the published criteria instead of reteaching the course. Expect to compromise on the evening you wanted, and expect hybrid or online to be part of the answer, because the weekday evenings in South Mumbai are gone by then. Be sceptical of anyone who tells you in November that a two-grade jump is routine. IB Gram does not guarantee grades, and nor should any tutor you speak to.

Will a tutor have the school's worksheets, mark schemes or internal report data?+

No, and you should not want one who claims to. IB Gram holds no material belonging to B.D. Somani International School, asks for none and would not pass any on. A tutor works from published syllabus documents, past papers available to anyone, the assessment criteria the boards publish, and whatever your child chooses to bring out of her own bag. If a tutor offers you a school's internal papers, claims to know its unpublished deadlines, or hints at a contact on the staff, treat that as a reason to end the conversation rather than as a selling point.

We live in Bandra West and my child commutes to school in Cuffe Parade. Where should home tuition happen?+

At your home in Bandra West, in almost every case. The tutor should travel to where the child sleeps rather than to where the child studies, because the session needs to begin after the commute has ended instead of adding a second journey to an already long day. Bandra West also sits inside a far larger catchment than Cuffe Parade does, so your choice of tutors is wider and the evening slot is much easier to hold through the year. Keep the school calendar as your planning spine and let the geography follow your address, not the campus.

Find your Mumbai tutor

Send one message with your child's year, board, subjects and your Cuffe Parade address. Within a working day you will have two or three verified profiles, each confirmed free on the evening you named and willing to make the trip south. Meet one, run a paid trial in your own flat, and tell us plainly if it is wrong. A replacement follows without an argument. If you want a slot before the internal assessment season, write in August.
