Setting up IB and IGCSE home tuition in Oshiwara from one brief

Send one brief for the whole household rather than one per child, whichever part of Mumbai you are in. That is the single most useful thing a parent here can do, and almost nobody does it. A household brief tells us the shape of your week: who is in which programme, which evenings are already gone to school activities, who has to be collected at what time, and whether there is one usable table or two. From that we can design an arrangement rather than fill a vacancy, and an arrangement is what survives to March.

The process itself is five steps and we keep it the same for everyone. 1. You send the household brief: each child's programme, year group, subjects and school, plus the evenings that are genuinely free. 2. We filter candidates on programme and level, and on board where the International General Certificate of Secondary Education is involved, since Cambridge International Education and Pearson Edexcel are separate syllabuses. 3. Two or three profiles come back with the travel route each tutor takes to Oshiwara. 4. A free discovery call. 5. Lessons begin on your confirmation, with a written review at two to four weeks.

The design question we ask ourselves is how few visits can carry the work. Two children with two subjects each does not mean four weekly visits. More often it is one weekend morning tutor covering the younger child's two subjects, plus one weekday evening specialist for the examination-year child, plus one short online session. Three commitments instead of four, and only one of them during a weekday evening. Families who come to us for IB and IGCSE home tuition in Oshiwara and leave with four weekday visits have usually bought something they will cancel in December.

If a tutor is not working, you tell us and we replace them, with no notice period and nothing paid in advance to argue over. IB Gram is an independent platform and is not affiliated with any school named on this page or with any examination board. That matters here because a household arrangement involves more compromise than a single booking, and you need somebody on your side of it who has no reason to defend a tutor.

  • One household brief, not one per child, is the biggest single improvement
  • Tell us which evenings are already gone before we match anyone
  • Design for the fewest visits that carry the work, not one per subject
  • Profiles state programme, board, level and the route to Oshiwara
  • Replacement on request, with nothing paid up front to unwind

One household, two boards: who needs which tutor?

Match by stage first and board second, and accept that one tutor rarely spans both systems well above Year 8. The International Baccalaureate runs the Primary Years Programme (PYP) to roughly Year 6, the Middle Years Programme (MYP) across Years 1 to 5 with marking against four published criteria per subject, and the Diploma Programme (DP) in the final two years with Higher Level (HL) and Standard Level (SL) subjects plus Theory of Knowledge (TOK), the Extended Essay (EE) and an Internal Assessment (IA) in every subject. The IGCSE route runs Years 9 to 11 with Core and Extended tiers and external papers at the end.

A tutor who has taught MYP criteria work can usually handle a Year 9 IGCSE student competently, because the content gap at that point is small. The reverse is also often true. What does not transfer is the top end: a DP Higher Level specialist is not interchangeable with a Year 11 Extended specialist, because the assessments they are preparing for reward different things. One is building an independent investigation and an argued essay over months; the other is producing precise, mark-scheme-shaped answers under timed conditions. Both are skilled jobs and they are not the same job.

For a household running both, the practical consequence is this. Up to Year 8 in either system, one tutor is a genuine option and saves you an evening. From Year 9 onward, plan for separate people. The exception worth asking about is Mathematics, where a strong teacher frequently covers an MYP Year 4 and a Year 10 IGCSE student in one visit because the underlying algebra is shared, even though the assessment wrapper differs. We will say plainly when a request can be combined, because combining saves you money and an evening.

Spell the acronyms out when you talk to the school, because the conversation goes wrong otherwise. Ask which programme each child is in, which tier or level, and which examination session they are entered for. Then write it on one sheet and give it to every tutor. Families looking for IB and IGCSE tutors near me in Oshiwara often discover during the discovery call that the child's actual entry differs from what the parent assumed, which is a cheap discovery to make early and an expensive one to make in January.

  • Match by stage first, board second, for any household running both
  • Up to Year 8, one tutor across both systems is genuinely workable
  • From Year 9, DP Higher Level and Year 11 Extended need separate people
  • Mathematics is the subject most often successfully combined
  • Write each child's programme, level and session on one sheet

Which subjects justify a second tutor in the same week?

Across the households we work with in Mumbai, a second tutor is justified when the subject has a separate assessed skill that the first tutor cannot credibly teach, and not merely when a second subject is weak. That distinction saves households a great deal of money. A Year 10 who is weak in both Chemistry and Physics usually needs one science tutor, because the method being taught is the same: read the question properly, define the variable, show the working, use the correct unit. A Year 11 weak in Chemistry and in a second language needs two people, because nothing transfers between them.

The clearest cases for a second tutor are languages and the written-essay subjects. A language needs sustained weekly practice in speaking and writing and punishes cramming more than anything else on the timetable. An essay subject at Diploma Higher Level needs somebody who can argue with a student about a paragraph. Neither of those is a side-skill a Mathematics tutor can pick up. The weakest case for a second tutor is two quantitative subjects at the same stage, where one strong teacher usually serves better and the student gets consistency of method.

Internal assessments change the calculation in Diploma years. Every International Baccalaureate subject carries one, and they land in overlapping windows, so a DP1 student can have a science investigation, a Mathematics exploration and an Extended Essay proposal live at the same time. In that situation a second tutor may be worth it purely for sequencing: somebody whose job is to force each research question to be settled early, because an unmarkable question wastes every hour spent on it afterwards. All IB and IGCSE subjects a tutor in Oshiwara might be asked for cannot sensibly live in one person's head at that level.

Do not take weightings, paper durations or mark totals from any website, this one included. Both the IB and the examination boards revise subject documents on their own cycles. Get the live syllabus or subject guide from the school and ask which optional components your child has been entered for. Parents asking about all IB and IGCSE subjects home classes Oshiwara tutors can run should expect an honest answer about where one tutor stops and a second becomes necessary.

  • Second tutor for a separate assessed skill, not merely a second weak subject
  • Two quantitative subjects at one stage: usually one tutor, better consistency
  • Languages and essay subjects almost always need their own specialist
  • In DP years a second tutor can be worth it for sequencing alone
  • Confirm optional components and structure with the school, not online

Where your tutors come from across Oshiwara and Andheri West

The working catchment for a weekly household arrangement in Oshiwara is Andheri West, Lokhandwala and Goregaon West, widening north to Jogeshwari, Malad and Kandivali for later slots and weekend mornings. Andheri West supplies the largest share of our matches here, Lokhandwala is effectively the same pocket, and Goregaon West is a straight run north on Link Road that works well early or late and badly between 6pm and 7pm.

The constraint behind all of that is that the Western Suburbs run north to south along the Western Express Highway and the Western Line, so a tutor travelling Bandra to Andheri is quick off-peak and painful at 6pm. Matching along the line, Khar to Santacruz or Malad to Kandivali, works far better than matching across it. Oshiwara's position on the Oshiwara–Link Road corridor means the fast axis is north-south and every east-west leg is where a schedule goes wrong.

For a multi-child arrangement this geography has a specific implication: your weekend tutor can come from much further away than your weekday tutor, so put the harder-to-source subject on the weekend. Ram Mandir / Andheri gives this pocket a Western Line stop and an interchange, Metro Lines 2A and 7 run Dahisar to Andheri to Gundavali, and Metro Line 1 connects Versova through Andheri to Ghatkopar. A specialist from Borivali who would never commit to a Tuesday at 6.30pm will often take a Saturday at 10am, and that is the slot to offer them.

Tell us where in Oshiwara you actually are, with a landmark and the gate the tutor should use. This part of Mumbai, Maharashtra has several complexes sharing single approach roads, and the fifteen minutes lost to a wrong gate comes out of the lesson. Also tell us if two children need two rooms at the same hour, because that rules out stacking two tutors in one slot and changes the whole design. Home tuition across this corner of Mumbai is a scheduling exercise before it is an academic one.

  • Core pool: Andheri West, Lokhandwala, Goregaon West
  • Weekend and late slots widen it to Malad, Kandivali and Borivali
  • Put the hardest-to-source subject on the weekend, not a weekday evening
  • North-south on Link Road is fast; east-west legs cost the most time
  • Say whether two children would need two rooms at the same hour

Two assessment calendars under one Mumbai roof

The unusual local fact that shapes tutoring here is that JBCN International School's Oshiwara campus runs both IB and IGCSE. One school bus, one gate, one set of school events, and two completely different assessment years inside the same family. Billabong High International School is the other name we see constantly from this pocket. Both appear here as local context only. IB Gram is an independent platform and is not affiliated with either school or with any examination board.

The collision points are predictable once you map them. October and November carry IGCSE coursework deadlines and the first serious IB internal assessments at the same time. December and January bring IGCSE mocks, and for Diploma students the Extended Essay milestones that schools pull forward to protect their own marking windows. February and March are the IGCSE past-paper run, which overlaps the Diploma Internal Assessment final-draft period. A household with one child in each system has roughly three fortnights a year where both children are in crisis simultaneously.

The planning answer is to decide in advance which child gets priority in each of those fortnights, and to tell the tutors. It sounds cold and it prevents the actual problem, which is two students competing for the same table, the same quiet and the same parental attention in the week that matters most. We suggest writing the three collision fortnights on the family calendar in August and booking an extra session for one child in each of them rather than trying to do everything.

The other school-calendar detail worth knowing is that because one campus runs two systems, holidays and event days do not always align with what your child is sitting. Families here lose sessions to activities aimed at the other board's cohort. Build one cancellation a month into your expectations and agree the make-up policy with each tutor before October, because a Year 11 who loses four sessions between December and February has lost the past-paper block that actually changes marks.

  • One campus, two systems, two assessment years in one household
  • Three fortnights a year both children are likely to be in crisis together
  • Decide in advance which child has priority in each collision fortnight
  • Expect roughly one cancellation a month from school activities
  • Agree each tutor's make-up policy before October, not in January

Is home tuition in Mumbai still the right default?

Yes, for everything up to the start of the Diploma Programme or Year 11, and the reason is physical rather than sentimental. A tutor in the room sees the exercise book, the handwriting that stops mid-line, the working skipped because the student cannot do it, and the moment attention goes. None of that transmits reliably through a screen, and students who have learned to look attentive can hide a great deal for a month. IB and IGCSE home tuition in Oshiwara remains the default we recommend because it diagnoses faster.

Online earns its place in two situations and you should use it in both. Scarcity is the first: an IB and IGCSE online tutor in Oshiwara gives you the one person in Mumbai who has genuinely taught your child's Higher Level option or a minority language, wherever they live. Volume is the second: a forty-minute past-paper review at 9pm is easy online and impossible in person. Online is the wrong choice for a Year 8 who cannot yet work alone for half an hour, and the right choice for a DP2 student who needs marking rather than teaching.

Hybrid is where multi-child households usually land, and it is worth designing rather than drifting into. For a two-child arrangement the pattern that works is a weekend morning home visit covering the younger child, one weekday evening home session for the examination-year child, and one short online session for the subject nobody nearby can teach. That is three commitments with one weekday evening used. The home classes we arrange in Mumbai get reviewed at four weeks because the version that looked sensible in August rarely survives the first assessment block unchanged.

The trade-offs plainly. Home tuition costs more per hour because travel is unpaid working time, and a cancellation is hard to refit within the week. Online is cheaper, easier to move, and completely dependent on a quiet corner existing and a student keeping the camera on, which in a flat with two children studying is not a trivial condition. Hybrid is the most effective and the most administration for the parent. None of the three fixes work not done between sessions.

  • Default to home tuition up to DP1 or Year 11; it diagnoses faster
  • Use online for scarcity and for volume, not as a cheaper substitute
  • Two-child pattern: weekend home visit, one weekday session, one online
  • A quiet corner is not trivial when two children study in one flat
  • Reassess the mode at four weeks, after the first assessment block

Checks we run, and the four questions you should ask

We verify identity against a government photo document, qualifications against the certificate rather than the claim, and teaching history by asking which programme, which level or tier, which years and which board. That last line is where inflated claims collapse. Somebody who has run Diploma Higher Level cohorts or Cambridge Extended classes answers it in one breath with specifics. Somebody who has tutored two students once answers with adjectives, and the difference is audible on a three-minute call.

Your four questions, in order. First, which programme and level have you taught, in which years? Second, what will the first session diagnose, and how will I hear about it? Third, describe the internal assessment or coursework process for my child's subject in your own words. Fourth, what do you do when a student has done none of the set work? A tutor who answers all four concretely is worth a longer journey. And be wary of a tutor who offers a guaranteed grade or a fixed number of extra marks, because nobody controls where boundaries land.

IB Gram does not guarantee grades, publishes no success rates and will not pretend that verification predicts a result. What verification does is remove the candidates who are not who they say. The free discovery call covers the part credentials cannot reach, which is whether your particular child will talk to this particular person. The written review at two to four weeks exists because first impressions are wrong in both directions often enough that a checkpoint is worth having.

For a household arrangement there is a fifth thing to settle, and it is the one most often skipped. Decide and write down who the tutor reports to, because in a two-child, two-tutor arrangement information gets lost between parents. One named adult, one channel, one short written update per tutor per fortnight. An IB and IGCSE private tutor Oshiwara families keep for a whole year is usually one where the reporting line was decided in week one rather than negotiated in February.

  • Photo document, certificate and specific board or programme history
  • Ask the four questions, and listen for specifics rather than adjectives
  • Nominate one adult and one channel for all tutor reporting
  • One short written update per tutor per fortnight is enough
  • Verification covers credentials only; we do not guarantee grades

What a term of home tuition actually looks like, week by week

A term of home tuition in Mumbai has a predictable shape, and knowing it stops families giving up in the wrong week. Week one is diagnosis and will feel unproductive. Unseen questions at the level the school is working at, the student explaining reasoning aloud, almost no teaching, and a short written picture at the end of what is missing and how far back it goes. Weeks two and three are usually repair work two years below where the parent expected, and this is the stretch where families most often lose faith. Hold on through it. A Year 10 being taken back through fraction manipulation is not a tutor wasting time; it is a tutor finding the actual floor.

Weeks four to six are where method starts appearing. The exercise book shows working rather than answers, the student attempts unseen questions instead of leaving blanks, and homework arguments shorten. This is the point at which you should receive the first substantive written update, and the point at which a wrong match becomes obvious: if nothing has changed behaviourally by week six, the problem is the pairing or the plan, not the child. Say so then rather than waiting for a report card.

Weeks seven to ten are consolidation, and they are the least visible part of the term. Content is being covered at the school's pace with the gaps closed behind it, and the measurable sign is that the student's school marks stop being erratic. Weeks eleven to fourteen should bring the first transfer evidence: a school-set, school-marked assessment where the improvement appears in work nobody from the tutoring side touched. If the gains still only exist on the tutor's worksheets at week fourteen, the sessions need restructuring rather than extending.

The practical household note across all fourteen weeks: protect the same hour every week. Variable timing is the quietest killer of IB and IGCSE home tuition in Oshiwara arrangements, because a slot that moves becomes a slot that gets skipped. Agree one fixed hour, one fixed room, and a stated make-up rule for the two or three sessions a term that school activities will take. Families who do that finish the term with fourteen sessions. Families who treat it flexibly finish with nine and wonder why less changed.

  • Week one: diagnosis, almost no teaching, a written picture at the end
  • Weeks two and three: repair work below the current year, and worth sitting through
  • Week six: if nothing behavioural has changed, raise it immediately
  • Weeks eleven to fourteen: look for transfer into school-marked work
  • One fixed hour and one fixed room beats flexibility every term

Progress, honest limits and when to stop in Oshiwara

Expect a behaviour change in four weeks, a transfer into school work in one term, and no promises at all about a final grade. That is the honest arc and it is the same for both systems. In a multi-child household there is a second honest point: the two children will not progress at the same rate, and comparing them is the fastest way to make the slower one stop trying. Ask each tutor for a separate report and read them separately.

Over a full examination cycle, outcomes vary genuinely. Some students move substantially. Some move one band and hold it under timed conditions, which for a student who used to freeze is a real result worth paying for. A few do not move, and the reasons are usually an unassessed learning difficulty, a subject chosen wrongly at the start, or something happening outside school. A tutor worth keeping names which one they suspect by about week eight. IB Gram does not guarantee grades and we do not publish success rates, because any such number on a tutoring site is either counted selectively or made up.

Stopping is a legitimate decision and we will support it. If a child is sleeping five hours, if the household is carrying four weekly academic commitments, or if the subject causing the trouble was chosen under family pressure, another hour will reduce output rather than raise it. The right move is a conversation with the coordinator about load, not a second tutor. We have told parents in Oshiwara to cancel one of two arrangements and watch what happens, and more often than not the remaining one starts working better.

The other honest limit worth naming: a tutor cannot replace attendance or reading. A student who has not read a set text cannot be taught to write about it in an hour a week, and a student missing school regularly will not be caught up by home tuition. Those are school and household problems with school and household solutions. Parents comparing IB and IGCSE tuition fees in Oshiwara should factor in that the cheapest intervention is frequently a change to the week rather than a purchase.

  • Four weeks for behaviour, one term for transfer, no promises on grades
  • Read each child's report separately and resist comparing them
  • Four weekly academic commitments is usually one too many
  • Week eight is when a good tutor tells you what is really happening
  • Reading and attendance cannot be bought back in a weekly hour

Your first fortnight of home classes in Oshiwara, Mumbai

Send one household brief with each child's programme, year group, subjects and school, the evenings that are genuinely free, your approach road and the gate the tutor should use. Say whether two children would need two rooms at the same hour and whether anybody has to be collected during the likely slot. Those details look administrative and they are what determine whether the arrangement we design holds past December.

For each child, gather the recent report with the teacher comments, the last two marked pieces with the annotations still on them, the live syllabus or subject guide the school issued, and a list of difficult topics written by the student themselves. That last page takes ten minutes and is the most useful item in the folder, because it shows what the student believes is wrong, which is frequently different from what the marks say.

Prepare the room before anyone arrives. One hard table, a chair at a sensible height, the phone elsewhere, a door that stays open, nobody cooking beside it. Keep one notebook per child for tutored work so that in February there is a record rather than an argument. If both children will be tutored, decide now which room each uses and stick to it, because shifting rooms week to week produces exactly the drift that breaks a slot.

What happens next: two or three verified profiles per requirement, each stating programme, level, board and the route that tutor takes to Oshiwara. A free discovery call, with your child present if they are old enough to have a view. Lessons start on your word. There is no lock-in, no advance package and no minimum number of sessions, and we replace a tutor whenever you ask. A home tutor for all IB and IGCSE subjects Mumbai parents hire should give you a written picture of the gaps inside the first fortnight without being chased.

  • One household brief: both children, free evenings, approach road and gate
  • Per child: report, two marked pieces, live syllabus, own topic list
  • Fix one room and one notebook per child before week one
  • Free discovery call, then lessons start when you confirm
  • Written picture of the gaps inside the first fortnight, unprompted
FAQs

Oshiwara tutoring — questions parents ask

Can one tutor handle both our children at home in the same visit?+

Up to about Year 8 in either system, often yes, and it saves a household an entire evening. A single tutor can reasonably take a Middle Years Programme Year 4 and a Year 10 IGCSE student in one visit when the subject is Mathematics, because the underlying algebra is shared even though the assessment wrapper differs. Above that it stops working: Diploma Higher Level depth and Year 11 Extended examination technique are different jobs. Tell us both children's details in one brief and we will say plainly whether the request can be combined or needs two people.

How do IB and IGCSE tuition fees in Oshiwara get decided?+

By five factors, and no honest site quotes a number. Stage and level, because Diploma Higher Level or Year 11 Extended work commands more than Year 7. Subject scarcity, which is the biggest single driver for minority languages and the harder options. Travel, since a tutor crossing in at 6.30pm prices in unpaid time while a rail commuter does not. Session length, with ninety minutes usually better value per hour than sixty. And whether you want written feedback each session, which adds real preparation. Give us a range in the brief and only profiles inside it reach you.

Will a tutor travel to Oshiwara for an early evening weekday slot?+

Yes, though 5.30pm and 7.45pm are both easier than 6.30pm. Tutors from Andheri West or Lokhandwala manage any of those. Tutors coming from Malad, Kandivali or Borivali mostly use the Western Line to Ram Mandir or Metro Lines 2A and 7, which keeps to a timetable in a way that Link Road does not during the peak hour. Offering two acceptable start times rather than one roughly doubles the shortlist we can send. For a household booking more than one tutor, this flexibility matters even more, because the slots have to fit around each other.

What do we need to arrange at the building gate for weekly visits?+

Register each tutor once as a standing weekly visitor rather than as a stranger every week. Most buildings along the Oshiwara–Link Road corridor will set that up when a resident confirms the name, the day and the time window with the security desk. Give the tutor the flat number and the specific gate, because several complexes here share one approach road and a wrong gate costs fifteen minutes of a sixty-minute lesson. If visitors must present a photo document, say so in the brief and we will confirm the tutor carries one before the first session.

Our two children clash over the same table. What do people do?+

Stagger the slots rather than the rooms, in most flats. Two tutors in one flat at the same hour works only where there are genuinely two quiet rooms, and in most Oshiwara apartments there is one good table and one compromise. The arrangement that holds is one child on a weekend morning and the other on a weekday evening, which also means only one visitor during the school week. If you must run both on the same evening, offset them by ninety minutes so the second starts after the first has cleared the table.

How long before we see anything from home tuition?+

A behaviour change in about four weeks and a mark change in about one term, in Oshiwara as anywhere else in Mumbai. By week four the student should attempt unseen questions instead of leaving blanks and be able to name their own weak topics unprompted, and you should have one written note from the tutor that tells you something specific about method. By week twelve to fourteen the improvement should appear in work the school sets and marks, not only in the tutor's own material. If gains still live only inside the tutoring hour at that point, the sessions need restructuring rather than extending.

Does a parent have to stay in the room during the session?+

An adult should be in the flat, though not in the room. For students under about fifteen we ask that a parent or another responsible adult is in the house with the lesson happening behind an open door, as ordinary practice rather than a comment on any tutor. For Diploma or Year 11 students at a desk, an adult in the building is enough. The genuinely useful moment for you is the five minutes while the tutor packs up, which is when you hear what was not done and what is actually worrying them.

What if one tutor works out and the other does not?+

Replace one and keep the other; there is nothing bundled. We will ask whether the problem is the person or the pitch, because a tutor teaching above a student's current level produces the same silence as a personality clash and the first is often fixable with one conversation. Three sessions is usually enough to tell. Replacement in this part of the Western Suburbs normally takes two to three working days, longer for a scarce subject where we would rather wait for the right person than send a quick one.

We travel for part of the summer. Does the arrangement survive a break?+

Yes, if you tell the tutor in advance and agree what happens to the slot. A four-week gap is survivable and sometimes useful, provided the tutor sets a small amount of work for the period and the first session back is a short diagnostic rather than a continuation. What breaks arrangements is an unannounced gap, because a tutor holding an unpaid slot open for a month will usually fill it. Say the dates at the start of the term, and ask whether the slot can be held or whether it will need renegotiating in August.

Is it better to start before the school year or mid-term?+

Before, by a wide margin. The stretch from June into September is quiet in both systems, which is when the strongest tutors have free slots and when foundations can actually be rebuilt rather than patched around the next deadline. October and November bring coursework deadlines and the first internal assessments, December and January bring mocks, and by February the work is technique only. A household that starts in July with modest hours usually needs fewer total hours than one starting in January with double, and the students are considerably less frightened.

Do you cover Lokhandwala, Andheri West and Goregaon West too?+

Yes, and the pool is shared across all four areas, which is what makes a household arrangement here practical. Andheri West carries the deepest coverage, Lokhandwala is effectively contiguous with Oshiwara, and Goregaon West adds capacity for early and late slots. For scarce subjects the net widens north to Malad, Kandivali and Borivali, reachable on the Western Line and Metro Lines 2A and 7. If you sit on the boundary between two of these areas, give us a landmark, because travel time to the two ends of this corridor can differ by fifteen minutes.

How many hours a week should a two-child household plan for?+

Three to four hours total across both children is the commonest workable figure, and five is usually where a household starts failing to keep up. Two hours a week per subject for the child in an examination year, and ninety minutes for a younger child, is a reasonable starting shape. Start lower than you think you need and raise it after the first assessment block rather than committing to a heavy schedule in August. The pattern that fails most often is four separate weekday visits, which almost always collapses to two by December.
