IB & IGCSE Home Tuition in Dahisar, Mumbai

IB and IGCSE home tuition in Dahisar usually starts with one awkward household fact: two children, two boards, one free evening. This page explains how a tutor is matched at the northern end of the Western Line, what the first session covers, what the cost actually depends on, and when online is the better answer than a doorbell.

Tutors matched along the Western Line, not across it
Two or three verified profiles, then a free discovery call
Both boards covered in one household where the slot allows

How does IB Gram match an IB and IGCSE home tutor in Dahisar?

IB Gram reads your brief, shortlists two or three verified tutors who already teach that board and that year group, and arranges a free discovery call before a single lesson is booked. IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching service, not a coaching chain and not a school, so nothing is scheduled until you have spoken to the person who would actually be ringing your doorbell in Dahisar.

The sequence is short on purpose. 1. Send the board, the year group, the subject list and the two evenings that are genuinely free, not the two that look free on paper. 2. We shortlist two or three tutors who have taught that exact syllabus and can reach Dahisar on those evenings without a sixty-minute crawl up the Western Express Highway. 3. You speak to each shortlisted tutor on a free discovery call and ask what they would do in the first fortnight. 4. Lessons begin only after you say yes, and we review the match at the two-to-four week mark.

The brief is where most of the real work happens. A request that says "science help for Class 10" produces a weak shortlist. A request that says "Cambridge IGCSE Coordinated Science, Year 10, Extended tier, loses marks whenever a question asks her to describe a method" produces a good one. Parents arranging IB and IGCSE home tuition in Dahisar are often filling this in for two children at once, and the two briefs genuinely differ: a Middle Years Programme (MYP) student needs criterion-referenced feedback she can act on, while an IGCSE candidate in Year 11 needs past-paper command words drilled until they stop surprising her.

If nobody on the shortlist fits, we say so rather than sending a fourth profile to look busy. Dahisar sits at the northern limit of the city's Western Line, and for a scarce subject at Higher Level (HL) the honest answer is sometimes an online specialist based further south plus a local tutor for the routine weeks. We would rather tell you that in week one than watch a match collapse in week six when mocks are already on the calendar.

  • Brief in: board, year group, subjects, two genuinely free evenings
  • Shortlist out: two or three profiles, each with named syllabus experience
  • Free discovery call with every shortlisted tutor before anything is booked
  • Lessons start after you say yes, never before
  • Match reviewed in writing at two to four weeks
  • No lock-in period and no minimum number of sessions

IB and IGCSE side by side: what each board asks of a Dahisar student

The International Baccalaureate (IB) and the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) are not two names for the same thing, and a tutor who treats them that way will waste your money. The IB runs as a continuum: the Primary Years Programme (PYP) in the early years, the Middle Years Programme (MYP) through the middle school, then the Diploma Programme (DP) in the final two years. IGCSE is a two-year qualification offered in Mumbai by Cambridge International Education and by Pearson Edexcel, sat subject by subject, with each subject standing on its own.

That structural difference changes what tuition looks like week to week. An MYP student is assessed against published criteria, so the useful question in a session is "which criterion is this task actually testing, and what does the next band up look like in your handwriting?" An IGCSE student is assessed by terminal papers, so the useful question is "what is this command word asking you to produce, and how many marks is the examiner able to award for what you have written?" A tutor who brings MYP criterion language into IGCSE revision, or past-paper drilling into a Year 7 MYP task, is working against the school.

Dahisar households frequently contain both. One child may be in IB PYP or MYP at a school in Dahisar East while an older sibling sits Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel IGCSE papers. Parents searching for an IB and IGCSE tutor Mumbai wide often assume one person covers everything. There is no single all IB and IGCSE subjects tutor in Dahisar, and anyone who claims to be one deserves a second look rather than a booking. What is realistic is one tutor covering one board for one child well, and a second match for the other.

Board structures are also revised on the boards' own cycles. Subject lists, assessment components and tier names move, and a page written today can be out of date for the year your child actually sits. Treat your school's own coordinator and the current published subject guide as the authority on structure, and treat a tutor as the person who gets the work done inside it.

  • IB runs PYP, then MYP, then the two-year Diploma Programme
  • IGCSE is offered here by Cambridge International Education and Pearson Edexcel
  • MYP work is judged against published criteria, not raw percentages
  • IGCSE outcomes rest mainly on terminal papers and command words
  • One household can legitimately need two separate tutor matches

Subject choice across both boards, and the internal assessments each one carries

Subject choice is the single decision that most changes how hard the next two years feel, and it is made at an age when children choose by teacher rather than by syllabus. Across both boards the pattern in the Western Suburbs is consistent: a student picks the science her friends picked, discovers in term two that the paper rewards a kind of writing she has never practised, and the report that follows is the reason a parent starts looking for an IB and IGCSE home tutor in Dahisar.

On the IB side, every DP subject carries an Internal Assessment (IA) of some kind, plus the Extended Essay (EE) and Theory of Knowledge (TOK) sitting across the whole Diploma. Those pieces are drafted at home, under a deadline set by the school rather than the board, and they are where a home tutor earns their fee: not writing the thing, but turning a vague research question into one that can actually be answered with the data a student in Mumbai can collect. In MYP the equivalent pressure is the criterion-marked task and, in the senior MYP years, the personal project.

On the IGCSE side the internal component varies by subject and by board. Some subjects carry coursework, some substitute an alternative-to-practical paper, and some are assessed entirely by written papers. Core and Extended tiers exist in several Cambridge subjects and the choice between them is consequential, because the ceiling differs. A tutor's first job in a new IGCSE match is to confirm which tier the school has entered the student for, which syllabus code the school is teaching, and whether the coursework component applies, before planning anything.

Where a subject is scarce, say a second language at HL or a humanities subject with a small cohort, a request for a home tutor for all IB and IGCSE subjects Mumbai wide gets split into separate subject matches rather than handed to one generalist. That is slower to arrange and more honest. A generalist can hold a Year 9 together across four subjects; a Year 12 HL candidate needs someone who has marked that paper.

  • Confirm the syllabus code and tier before the first lesson, not after
  • DP subjects carry an Internal Assessment plus the Extended Essay and TOK
  • MYP pressure sits in criterion-marked tasks and the personal project
  • IGCSE internal components differ by subject and by board
  • Scarce HL subjects are matched individually, never bundled

Dahisar, Borivali East, Borivali West and Mira Road: the real matching radius

A tutor booked for IB and IGCSE home tuition in Dahisar realistically also covers Borivali East, Borivali West and Mira Road, and that radius is set by the road, not by goodwill. Dahisar is the last stop on the Western Line inside Mumbai, Maharashtra, before Mira Road begins, and the Dahisar–Western Express Highway corridor is the spine everything hangs off. Dahisar station and the Metro Lines 2A and 7 alignment running down towards Andheri and Gundavali have changed the north-south journey more than any amount of optimism about Link Road.

The Western Suburbs run north-south, so matching along the line works and matching across it does not. A tutor living near Kandivali or Borivali West reaches a flat off the highway in Dahisar in a short, predictable hop. A tutor coming up from Bandra or Khar is quick off-peak and painful at six in the evening, which is exactly when your child is free. This is why we push back on a parent who has found a profile they like in Santacruz: the first three weeks will work and the fourth will start arriving late.

Mira Road deserves its own sentence because the municipal boundary sits between it and Dahisar, and crossing it on a weekday evening is a different proposition from the map's suggestion. Families on the Mira Road side are often better matched with a tutor already working that stretch than with one based south of Dahisar station. Borivali East, by contrast, behaves almost as one catchment with Dahisar for scheduling purposes, and the two share most of the tutor pool for IB and IGCSE work.

Parents who type "IB and IGCSE tutors near me Dahisar" into Google are asking a travel question disguised as a search query. The answer we give is a travel answer: name the two evenings, name the building and the nearest landmark off the highway, and we will shortlist from the pool that can hold that slot in April as reliably as in July. Home tuition across this part of Mumbai lives or dies on whether the journey is repeatable.

  • Standard radius: Dahisar, Borivali East, Borivali West and Mira Road
  • Matching along the Western Line beats matching across the suburbs
  • Metro Lines 2A and 7 made the Andheri run genuinely viable
  • Mira Road often needs a tutor already working that side
  • Six in the evening is the hardest slot to staff from the south
  • Name your landmark off the Western Express Highway in the brief

Which months are the real pressure points in a Mumbai IB and IGCSE school year?

The pressure points are the weeks when an internal deadline and a mock paper collide, and in Mumbai that happens twice: once after the Diwali break, when coursework and IA drafts come due against the first serious set of mocks, and again in the run-up to the main examination series in the first half of the calendar year. Your school's published calendar is the only authority on the actual dates, and it differs between schools in the same suburb, so get it in writing in June and plan tuition backwards from it.

Dahisar carries genuine IB demand for a reason that surprises people who think of international schooling as a South Mumbai and Bandra Kurla Complex phenomenon. Singapore International School sits at Dahisar East, which is why a locality at the city's northern edge has real IB PYP and MYP families rather than a handful of commuters. JBCN International School, Borivali adds both IB and IGCSE cohorts a short hop down the highway. The practical effect is that a tutor working Dahisar can build a full week here instead of treating it as an outpost, and that is why the tutor pool holds up this far north.

IB Gram is an independent platform and is not affiliated with Singapore International School, with JBCN International School, Borivali, or with any other school named anywhere on this page. We name them because their calendars set your term, not because we have a relationship with them. If a tutoring service implies otherwise, ask them to put the relationship in writing and watch what happens.

The calendar effect on matching is blunt. Requests for all IB and IGCSE subjects home classes Dahisar families need spike twice a year, and the good tutors in a scarce subject are gone first. A parent who calls in June about a Year 11 IGCSE student has a real choice of profiles. A parent who calls three weeks before a mock series is choosing from whoever is left, and we will tell you that rather than pretend the shortlist is the same one.

  • Get the school calendar in writing at the start of the academic year
  • Post-Diwali weeks stack coursework drafts against the first mocks
  • Singapore International School at Dahisar East anchors local IB demand
  • JBCN International School, Borivali adds both IB and IGCSE cohorts
  • Scarce-subject tutors are booked out well before mock season

Should you book home tuition, online, or a mix in Dahisar?

Book home tuition first if the student is below the senior years or cannot yet work unsupervised for forty minutes; book online if the subject is scarce and the right specialist is simply not available on your side of the city. Most families arranging IB and IGCSE home tuition in Dahisar end up with a hybrid by the second term, and that is not a compromise, it is usually the correct answer for a two-board household with one free evening.

Home classes buy you three things that a screen does not. The tutor sees the actual study space, which in a Mumbai flat is often a dining table shared with a younger sibling, and can change it. The tutor sees the schoolbag, which is where unmarked worksheets and unread feedback hide. And the student cannot quietly disengage. For a Year 9 or Year 10 student who has not yet learned to sit with a hard question, the physical presence of an adult at the table is doing most of the work, and no amount of good software replaces it.

Online is the wrong choice for a Year 9 student who cannot yet work alone, and the right choice for a Year 12 Higher Level candidate who needs the one person in the city who has marked that paper. An IB and IGCSE online tutor in Dahisar also solves the April problem, when the Western Express Highway stops cooperating and a 6pm slot becomes a 6:40 slot. The honest trade-off is handwriting: diagrams, working out and annotated past papers are harder to supervise through a camera, and a tutor who does not ask for a photograph of the page at the end of each session is not really marking anything.

The hybrid pattern that holds up here is one home session a week for the subject that needs supervision plus one online session for the scarce subject, with the online slot earlier in the evening because nobody has to travel to it. Families searching for an IB and IGCSE private tutor Dahisar side usually mean one-to-one at their own table, and that is what we arrange by default. We only propose online when it genuinely produces a better tutor.

  • Home tuition first for junior years and for students who drift
  • Online for scarce HL subjects and for the worst traffic weeks
  • Hybrid: one home session, one online session, different purposes
  • Online tutors must ask for photographs of the written work
  • A screen cannot fix a study space it has never seen

How tutors are verified, and what you should still check yourself in Mumbai

Verification at IB Gram means government photo identity confirmed, qualifications seen rather than claimed, a subject-level conversation with someone who knows the syllabus, and prior teaching or tutoring history checked where it exists. That gets you a tutor who is who they say they are and knows the subject. It does not tell you whether this particular adult will work with your particular child, and no screening process anywhere can. That part is what the free discovery call is for, and it is why we send two or three profiles rather than one.

What you should check yourself takes about four minutes on the call. Ask which board and which syllabus code they last taught this subject under, and listen for whether the answer is specific. Ask what they would do in session one, and be suspicious of anyone who says they will "assess the student" without saying how. Ask what they will send you after a month. Ask directly whether they teach Cambridge, Pearson Edexcel, or both, because a tutor who has only ever taught one board and says both are the same has told you something useful.

Be wary of a tutor who offers a guaranteed grade, quotes a success rate, or claims to be the best IB and IGCSE tutor in Dahisar. We do not guarantee grades and we do not publish pass percentages, because the only honest version of that number would need to control for the student, the school and the board, and nobody is doing that arithmetic. A tutor who promises a specific grade in a first conversation is telling you how they sell, not how they teach.

The other check is a safeguarding one and it is yours to make, not ours. Lessons for IB and IGCSE home tuition in Dahisar should happen in a shared room with a door open and an adult somewhere in the flat, not behind a closed bedroom door. A professional tutor expects this and will often suggest it before you do. Any tutor who finds it awkward has answered a question you should have asked.

  • Identity, qualifications and subject knowledge checked before a profile is sent
  • Ask which syllabus code and board they last taught
  • Ask what the first session covers, in specifics
  • Be wary of anyone quoting a success rate or a promised grade
  • Keep lessons in a shared room with an adult at home
  • Two or three profiles, because fit is not screenable

Core, Extended, Higher Level, Standard Level: the Dahisar decision that sets up two years

Two tier decisions cause more late-night searching in this suburb than any other academic problem: whether a Cambridge IGCSE student is entered for Core or Extended, and whether a DP student takes a subject at Higher Level (HL) or Standard Level (SL). Both are made months before the consequences show up, both are reversible only inside a window the school controls, and both are frequently made on the basis of how a child felt in term one rather than what the papers actually demand.

The Core and Extended question is really a question about ceilings and about risk. Extended covers more content and reaches higher grades; Core is narrower and caps lower. A student placed on Extended who is not coping will produce worse marks than the same student on Core, and a student parked on Core who could have coped has had a university pathway quietly narrowed for her. The useful tutoring intervention is not persuasion, it is evidence: four weeks of marked Extended questions in the student's own handwriting, shown to the school, which is a far better argument than a parent's conviction.

The HL and SL question is about the Internal Assessment and about time. An HL subject carries a heavier conceptual load and, in most subjects, a more demanding internal component, and a DP2 student in Dahisar with three HLs discovers in the post-Diwali weeks that three internal assessments, the Extended Essay and a Theory of Knowledge (TOK) deadline all want the same fortnight. The sensible test is not "can she do HL maths", it is "can she do HL maths in the same term as two other HL internal assessments and a six-forty commute".

This is also where the two-board household gets genuinely difficult. A Year 11 IGCSE student choosing DP subjects for next year is making the tier decision for two boards at once: which IGCSE tier she sits now, and which DP level she enters later, with the first partly determining the second. A tutor who holds both halves of that conversation is worth more than two tutors who each hold one. Where one person cannot cover both subjects, we at least brief both tutors on the same plan.

  • Core and Extended differ in content covered and in grade ceiling
  • Four weeks of marked Extended work beats any parental argument
  • HL adds conceptual depth and a heavier internal assessment load
  • Three HL internal assessments plus the Extended Essay collide after Diwali
  • Year 11 tier choices quietly shape next year's Diploma Programme levels

What progress looks like at four weeks, one term and one exam cycle in Mumbai

At four weeks you should not expect a grade to move, and if it has, be mildly suspicious of the test it moved on. What you should see at four weeks is diagnostic: a written note from the tutor naming two or three specific weaknesses, evidence that the student can now attempt a question type she previously skipped, and homework coming back marked rather than merely completed. If a month of IB and IGCSE home tuition in Dahisar has produced no written account of what is wrong, the tutor has been filling time.

At one term the honest marker is whether the student's own behaviour has changed. Does she start a question she does not immediately understand, or does she still wait? Does she bring her own list of confusions to the session? Has the school's feedback shifted from "needs to show working" to something more specific? Grades usually move on the second internal assessment or the second mock, not the first, because the first one largely measures what was already in place when tuition started.

At one exam cycle you will know, and you may not like the answer. Some students move two grades, some move one, some hold a grade they were going to lose, and that last outcome is real progress that looks like nothing on paper. We do not guarantee grades and will not quote a figure for how often a student improves, because the student, the school and the subject do more of the work than the tutor does. What we will do is replace a match that is not working, at any point, without an argument.

The limits are worth saying plainly. A tutor cannot fix a subject chosen wrongly two years ago, cannot replace a teacher the student has stopped listening to, and cannot create four hours of study a week that the student does not have. Home tuition in Mumbai works best as a correction to a specific, named problem. Where the problem is actually workload, timetable or subject fit, the right advice is a conversation with the school, and we will say so even though it loses us the booking.

  • Four weeks: a written diagnosis, not a grade change
  • One term: changed behaviour, and movement on the second assessment
  • One exam cycle: real but uneven, and sometimes a grade held
  • A match can be changed at any point, without penalty
  • Fees depend on board, level, subject scarcity, travel and session length

Starting IB and IGCSE home tuition in Dahisar: what to have ready

Have four things ready and the first match usually lands inside a few days: the board and syllabus code, the most recent school report or marked paper, the two evenings that are genuinely free, and your building's location relative to the Western Express Highway or Dahisar station. The report matters more than parents expect. A tutor reading a real teacher's comment learns more in two minutes than from twenty minutes of a parent's summary, and it changes which profiles we shortlist.

Session one, done properly, is a diagnosis rather than a lesson. A good tutor spends it watching the student attempt work she has already been set, because that is where the error pattern lives. Expect them to ask for her notebook, her last marked paper and her textbook, to work through two or three questions while narrating nothing and listening to everything, and to end by telling you both what they think the actual problem is. Expect, at the end, a plan for the next three sessions that you can repeat back.

What should not happen in session one is a sales pitch for a package, a diagnostic test the tutor sells separately, or a promise about an outcome. Also not a lecture: if the tutor talked for fifty minutes of an hour, the student has learned how clever the tutor is. Families comparing an IB and IGCSE home tutor in Dahisar against a nearby group class should ask the group class the same question about session one and compare the answers.

After that, the rhythm is simple and deliberately boring. Weekly sessions at a fixed slot, homework set and marked, a short written review at the two-to-four week mark, and a decision point at the end of the first month where you continue, change tutor, or stop. There is no lock-in. A family that stops after three weeks because the problem turned out to be a timetable clash has used this service correctly.

  • Have the board, syllabus code and last marked paper to hand
  • Name two evenings that are genuinely free, not theoretically free
  • Session one diagnoses; a lesson plan follows it, not the reverse
  • Expect a short written review at two to four weeks
  • No lock-in, and no package to buy up front
FAQs

Dahisar tutoring — questions parents ask

What do IB and IGCSE tuition fees in Dahisar actually depend on?+

IB and IGCSE tuition fees in Dahisar depend on five things, and we will not quote a price list because anyone who does is guessing about your case. Board and level come first: a Diploma Programme Higher Level subject costs more than a Year 9 Middle Years Programme subject because fewer tutors can teach it. Then subject scarcity, which is why a second language or a specialist humanities subject sits above mainstream science. Then travel distance and the time of your slot, since a 6pm booking off the Western Express Highway costs a tutor more of the evening than a 4pm one. Then session length and frequency.

Can a tutor travel to Dahisar from Borivali or Andheri for an evening slot?+

Yes from Borivali, usually yes from Kandivali and Malad, and honestly it depends from Andheri. The Western Line and the Metro Lines 2A and 7 alignment have made the Andheri run workable, but a 6pm weekday slot in Dahisar means leaving Andheri in the worst part of the peak, and a match that depends on that journey tends to drift late by the second month. We prefer to shortlist from Dahisar, Borivali East, Borivali West and Mira Road for weekday evening bookings, and open the radius wider for weekend mornings when the highway behaves.

Does someone need to be at home while the home tuition session runs?+

An adult should be in the flat, though not in the room. This is a safeguarding norm rather than a rule we invented, and professional tutors in Mumbai expect it. Keep the session in a shared space with the door open, the dining table or a study corner rather than a bedroom. A parent sitting in on every session usually makes things worse: the student performs for the parent instead of working, and the tutor cannot see the honest version of the mistake. Drop in at the end, ask the tutor what happened, and read the homework they set.

My son is in IGCSE Year 11 and wants to do the IB Diploma. Can one tutor cover both?+

Sometimes, and it is worth asking for specifically, because this transition is the hardest handover in the two-board household. A tutor who has taught both Cambridge IGCSE and the Diploma Programme can use the Year 11 year to build the habits the Diploma actually needs: independent reading, a research question that can be answered, written work produced to a deadline the student set herself. Where a single tutor cannot cover both subjects to the required depth, we match separately and brief both tutors on the same plan, which is slower to set up and more honest than pretending one person covers everything.

Is online tuition good enough for a Year 9 student, or is home tuition better?+

For most Year 9 students, home tuition is better, and we will say so even when an online tutor would be easier to arrange. A fourteen-year-old who has not yet learned to sit with a question she cannot do needs an adult at the table, not an adult on a screen. Online becomes the right answer two or three years later, when the student can work unsupervised and the limiting factor is finding someone who has actually marked that Higher Level paper. The exception is a short online bridge while we find the right local match.

What happens if the tutor is not working out after three sessions?+

Tell us and we replace the match, with no argument and no fee for the switch. Three sessions is a reasonable point to judge: enough for a diagnosis to exist, not enough to have lost a term. What helps is being specific about why, because "it isn't working" and "he explains well but never marks the homework" lead to very different replacements. Most failed matches here are not about competence, they are about pace or personality, and both are fixable by changing the person. Roughly one in a handful of matches gets changed, and nobody treats it as a complaint.

There has been no visible progress after a month. What should we do?+

Ask the tutor for the written diagnosis first, because the absence of that document is the real problem more often than the absence of progress. A month should produce a named list of weaknesses and evidence that the student now attempts question types she used to skip, even if no grade has moved. If the tutor cannot produce that, change the tutor. If the tutor can produce it and the school's feedback still has not shifted, the issue may be workload or subject fit rather than teaching, and that is a conversation with the school.

Do you cover Mira Road and Borivali East as well as Dahisar?+

Yes, and they behave differently for scheduling. Borivali East and Dahisar share most of the same tutor pool and a booking in one is usually fillable from the other with no travel penalty. Mira Road sits across the municipal boundary and crossing it on a weekday evening is slower than the map suggests, so Mira Road families are generally matched with a tutor already working that side rather than one based south of Dahisar station. Borivali West is comfortable for both. Tell us the building and the nearest landmark and we will be straight about who can hold the slot.

Which subjects are hardest to staff this far north in Mumbai?+

Second languages at Higher Level, specialist humanities with small cohorts, and anything requiring experience of a specific internal assessment are the hard ones in Dahisar. Mainstream mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, economics and English are straightforward at both boards. The scarcity is geographic rather than absolute: the tutor exists in Mumbai, just not within a repeatable weekday-evening drive of the Dahisar–Western Express Highway corridor. For those subjects we usually propose an online specialist, and we say so at the shortlist stage rather than after you have paid for a month.

My daughter is in IB PYP at a school in Dahisar East. Is home tuition appropriate that young?+

Often it is not, and that is the honest answer even though PYP enquiries from Dahisar East are common. A Primary Years Programme child who is reading and inquiring happily does not need a tutor, she needs time. Home classes make sense at that age for a specific, named gap: a child who has moved boards mid-year, one who is behind in number fluency or decoding, or one learning in English at school and another language at home. If you cannot name the gap in a sentence, wait a term and talk to the class teacher.

Can we book two children on different boards in the same evening at our building?+

Yes, and it is one of the most common requests we get in this part of the Western Suburbs. Two back-to-back one-to-one sessions in the same flat works well when the subjects are close enough that one tutor covers both, and it halves the travel problem that makes weekday evenings hard here. Where the boards or levels are too far apart, the alternative is two tutors on two different evenings, or one home session and one online. What does not work is teaching two children of different ages together to save an hour.
