How IB Gram matches an IB home tutor in Indiabulls Blu

A request for an IB home tutor in Indiabulls Blu arrives as three facts and one unspoken worry. Parents often write asking for an all IB and IGCSE subjects tutor in Indiabulls Blu, and this page answers the International Baccalaureate half of that request; the Cambridge side has its own page. A request for all IB and IGCSE subjects home classes Indiabulls Blu gets split by programme before anyone is shortlisted, because nobody teaches twenty subjects well. The three facts are the programme, the subjects and the evening that is genuinely free. The worry is almost always the same: the last arrangement collapsed in week five because the tutor was travelling from too far away and started arriving at 7.40pm for a 7pm slot. We treat the travel question as part of the academic question, because on this part of the island it decides whether the teaching ever happens.

So the first thing we fix is geography, not pedigree. Indiabulls Blu sits where Worli meets Lower Parel, which means a tutor already teaching in Prabhadevi, Worli or around Lower Parel station can reach your tower without touching the Peddar Road or Haji Ali signals at all. A tutor living in Andheri can be excellent and still be the wrong match, because the Coastal Road helps a southbound car in the morning and does nothing for a 6.30pm crossing. We would rather send you a strong Standard Level Biology specialist from Prabhadevi than a famous one from the suburbs who will quietly start cancelling in October.

Then we fix the programme. The International Baccalaureate (IB) runs as three distinct things in this building: the Primary Years Programme (PYP) for the younger children, the Middle Years Programme (MYP) in the middle school years, and the Diploma Programme (DP) for the final two. A tutor who is strong on DP Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches is not automatically the right person for an MYP Year 8 who cannot yet structure a paragraph of reflection. We ask which programme and which year, then shortlist against that, not against a general IB label.

You receive a shortlist, not a single name. Each profile says what the tutor teaches, at which level, which part of Mumbai they are coming from, and what the realistic arrival window is for a weekday evening in Indiabulls Blu. You then speak to them. The intro call matters more than the profile does, and a parent who asks two sharp questions on that call almost never ends up replacing a tutor in week five.

  • 1. Tell us the programme, the year group and the two subjects that worry you
  • 2. We shortlist tutors already teaching between Worli, Prabhadevi and Lower Parel
  • 3. You speak to two or three of them before anyone is booked
  • 4. A paid first session happens at your flat, with the gate pass arranged in advance
  • 5. We check in after the fourth session and change the tutor if it is not working

Which IB programme is your child actually in?

The answer decides almost everything about the tutor you need, and a surprising number of parents in Indiabulls Blu are not sure. The Primary Years Programme (PYP) runs through the early and primary years and is organised around units of inquiry rather than textbook chapters, so there is often no book to work through at all. The Middle Years Programme (MYP) covers the middle school years, assesses against four published criteria in every subject, and introduces the Personal Project near its end. The Diploma Programme (DP) is the final two years: six subjects at Higher Level (HL) or Standard Level (SL), plus Theory of Knowledge (TOK), the Extended Essay (EE) and Creativity, Activity, Service.

Those three are different jobs for a tutor, not three difficulty settings of the same job. PYP home tuition is mostly about reading stamina, number sense and getting a child to explain their thinking out loud, because the school is not going to hand you a syllabus to revise from. A PYP tutor who starts drilling worksheets has misread the programme. MYP work is where most families in this tower first ask for help, usually because a report arrived with criterion letters on it and nobody at home could translate them into what to do on Sunday afternoon.

MYP is also where the honest conversation about the middle years belongs. A Year 8 student who is scoring in the middle bands is usually not short of knowledge; they are short of the specific moves each criterion rewards, such as justifying a method rather than stating it, or evaluating a source instead of summarising it. That is teachable in a term of weekly IB home tuition, and it is teachable far more cheaply than the same gap discovered in DP1.

The Diploma Programme is the tightest window and the one where parents in Mumbai leave it latest. By the time a DP1 student has chosen six subjects, picked HL and SL, and committed to a Mathematics route, the structure is largely fixed, and a tutor is working inside it rather than redesigning it. If your child is in DP1 now, the useful months are the ones before the first internal assessment drafts land, not the ones after. An IB home tutor in Indiabulls Blu working with a DP1 student in September has room to change the outcome of a draft; the same tutor meeting them in February is doing damage control.

  • PYP: inquiry units, reading stamina and explaining thinking aloud, not worksheets
  • MYP: four published criteria per subject, plus the Personal Project near the end
  • DP: six subjects split across Higher Level and Standard Level, plus TOK and the Extended Essay
  • Ask the school coordinator for the current subject guide before buying any resource
  • A tutor who cannot name your child's assessment criteria is guessing

Subject choice, HL and SL, and the internal assessments behind each one

Subject choice is the decision with the longest tail, and it is made twice: once at the end of the middle years and once when the Diploma Programme subjects are locked. Most families in Indiabulls Blu ask for help with the second one, and most of the trouble we see traces back to the first. A student who dropped a language or took the lighter Mathematics route in the middle years has fewer options two years later, and no amount of IB home tuition reopens a door the timetable has closed.

Within the Diploma Programme, the Higher Level and Standard Level split is not simply more content versus less content. Higher Level asks for a different depth of argument and carries its own extension topics, and in the sciences it changes what the written papers expect you to do with an unfamiliar context. A student who is comfortable with SL Physics mechanics can still be flattened by an HL question that gives them an experimental setup they have never seen and asks them to evaluate it. Choosing Higher Level because a university page suggested it, without checking how the child handles unfamiliar contexts, is the most common self-inflicted injury we see in this building.

Every Diploma subject carries internal assessment, and that is where a home tutor earns their keep. The Sciences have the scientific investigation, Mathematics has the exploration, the Languages have oral components, the Individuals and Societies subjects have their own written tasks, and the Visual Arts carry a body of work with commentary. These are marked against published criteria and moderated, which means the drafting process is the work. A tutor cannot write any part of it, and should refuse to. What they can do is read the research question with you before you commit to it, which is the single highest-value hour in the whole cycle.

The most useful thing a tutor does with an internal assessment is to say no early. A research question that cannot produce enough usable data, an exploration built on a topic with no mathematics in it, a history investigation with no accessible sources in Mumbai: all of these are fixable in week one and nearly unfixable in week eight. Ask your tutor to critique the question before the student falls in love with it, and check the current subject guide and your school coordinator for the structure and timing, because the boards revise those on their own cycle.

  • Confirm the Mathematics route early; it constrains Higher Level science choices later
  • Internal assessments are drafted and moderated, so the drafting calendar is the real deadline
  • A tutor may critique a research question; a tutor may never write the work
  • Higher Level changes the depth of argument expected, not only the volume of content
  • Language oral components need rehearsal time booked weeks before, not days

Worli, Lower Parel and Prabhadevi: the real tutor radius in Mumbai

An IB home tutor in Indiabulls Blu is realistically drawn from a radius of a few kilometres, and that is a feature rather than a limitation. Most IB home tuition in Indiabulls Blu therefore runs with a tutor whose other students live within the same few streets. A home tutor for all IB and IGCSE subjects Mumbai parents can actually book is a specialist in two or three of them, never a generalist in twenty. South Mumbai is dense and short-distance but slow. A tutor crossing from Worli to Colaba covers about eight kilometres and can still lose forty minutes to the Peddar Road and Haji Ali signals in the evening peak, which is why we match within the island instead of bringing someone down from the suburbs for a 7pm lesson. The home classes we arrange in Mumbai live or die on that arithmetic.

Lower Parel is the nearest station and the practical anchor. A tutor who works around Lower Parel can walk or take a short ride to your gate, which makes a 6.30pm start genuinely possible rather than aspirational. Worli adds the tutors who teach along the sea-facing stretch and who are used to the signal timings at the Worli end of the seam. Prabhadevi completes the triangle: it is close enough that a tutor living there treats Indiabulls Blu as part of their own neighbourhood rather than as a trip.

Wider South Mumbai still matters for subject scarcity. If you need Higher Level Economics on a Tuesday and nobody within the Worli to Prabhadevi triangle has that slot free, the next ring is Mahalaxmi, Tardeo, Breach Candy and the Fort side, reached on the Western Line out of Churchgate or on the Harbour Line towards Dockyard. Those tutors exist and many of them travel well, but we tell you up front that a tutor from Fort will ask for a slightly later start or a weekend slot, because the evening run through Haji Ali is not negotiable.

Metro Line 3 has changed some of this. A tutor who works in Bandra Kurla Complex during the day can now reach the island faster than the road map suggests, which widens the pool for scarce Higher Level subjects. The Coastal Road helps too, though mostly in the southbound morning rather than the northbound evening. We will tell you honestly which of your shortlist is a short hop and which is relying on a good traffic day, because a tutor who is relying on a good traffic day will eventually have a bad one.

  • Worli: tutors used to the seam and the sea-facing signal timings
  • Lower Parel: the nearest station and the most reliable 6.30pm starts
  • Prabhadevi: close enough that tutors treat the tower as their own neighbourhood
  • Mahalaxmi, Tardeo and Fort: the second ring for scarce Higher Level subjects
  • Anything north of Mahim is a weekend or online match, not a weekday evening one

The school calendars Indiabulls Blu families live by in Mumbai

Children from this complex are bussed in several directions, and the two that come up most in our calls are JBCN International School, Parel and Aditya Birla World Academy in Tardeo. Both run international pathways, and both are named here purely as local context: IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching service and is not affiliated with either school, or with the International Baccalaureate organisation, Cambridge International Education or Pearson Edexcel. We mention them because their calendars, not ours, set the weeks when your evenings disappear. Searches phrased as IB tutors near me Indiabulls Blu land on a companion page; this one stays with home tuition and with the school rhythms behind it.

The practical consequence is that a tutor working in this tower is often holding two school rhythms in their head at once. Indiabulls Blu sits on the Worli–Lower Parel seam, so one family is sending a child north to Parel while the neighbour on the floor above is sending one south to Tardeo, and the two schools do not set their internal deadlines in the same fortnight. A tutor with students in both learns the pattern within a term and starts protecting the right weeks in advance. A tutor with students in only one gets caught out.

Across the Mumbai international school year, the pressure points are fairly predictable. The first serious one lands a few weeks into the autumn term, when the middle years criterion tasks and the Diploma internal assessment proposals arrive together. The second is the pre-Diwali stretch, where a shortened school fortnight compresses everything either side of the break. The third is the January to February run, when DP2 mock examinations collide with final internal assessment submissions and Extended Essay deadlines. The fourth is the quiet one nobody plans for: the weeks after results, when a DP1 student realises the subject combination is wrong.

If you want one piece of planning advice from this page, it is this. Ask your school coordinator in the first fortnight of the academic year for the internal assessment submission calendar, then book home tuition backwards from it rather than forwards from today. Families in Indiabulls Blu who do that end up paying for fewer hours overall, because the hours land where they change an outcome instead of where they soothe a panic.

  • JBCN International School, Parel sits north of the seam, a short run up from the tower
  • Aditya Birla World Academy pulls children south towards Tardeo each morning
  • Autumn term: criterion tasks and internal assessment proposals arrive together
  • January to February: DP2 mocks, final internal assessments and Extended Essay deadlines overlap
  • Ask the coordinator for the submission calendar in the first fortnight, then book backwards

Home tuition, online or a mix for an IB student in Mumbai?

Start with home tuition, because for most IB students in Indiabulls Blu it is simply the format that works. A tutor sitting at your dining table can see the notebook, see the phone face-down or face-up, and notice in the first ten minutes that the student does not actually know how to annotate a question. None of that survives a video call reliably. An IB home tutor in Indiabulls Blu also inherits a structural advantage: the slot is in the diary, the gate pass exists, and the student cannot reschedule it by closing a laptop.

An IB online tutor in Indiabulls Blu is the right answer in three specific situations and the wrong answer everywhere else. It is right when the subject is scarce, because a Higher Level Economics or a Japanese specialist may not exist within the island and an online tutor from elsewhere in Mumbai, or from outside it, beats no tutor at all. It is right in the final weeks before examinations, when a thirty-minute question-review call three times a week is worth more than one long weekly visit. It is right for a self-managing DP2 student who already works alone and wants someone to mark and challenge.

Online is the wrong choice for a Year 9 student who cannot yet work without a person in the room, and we will say so even though it costs us the easier booking. The same applies to any student whose main problem is starting rather than understanding. If the diagnosis is avoidance, a screen is an accomplice. Parents who have tried online for a middle years child and watched three months produce nothing are not unlucky; they picked the format that removes exactly the pressure the child needed.

Hybrid is what most families here settle into by the second term, and it is worth designing rather than drifting into. One weekly visit at home for teaching, diagnosis and the hard conversations, plus one short online session timed to the week the internal assessment draft is due. The visit carries the relationship; the call carries the deadline. It also solves the monsoon problem: when the Worli end of the seam is standing in water on a July evening, the session moves online for that week instead of being cancelled, and the term does not lose its rhythm.

  • Home tuition first: the tutor can see the notebook, the phone and the body language
  • Online for scarce Higher Level subjects and short pre-examination review calls
  • Online is wrong for a student whose problem is starting rather than understanding
  • Hybrid: one visit for teaching, one call timed to the draft deadline
  • Monsoon weeks move online rather than being cancelled outright

How are IB tutors in Mumbai checked before you meet them?

Before a profile reaches you we verify identity, qualification and subject-level teaching experience, and we check that the tutor has taught the specific programme and level they are claiming. That last check matters more than the first two. Plenty of capable graduates can teach Physics; far fewer have marked against Diploma Programme criteria or coached a middle years criterion task, and the difference shows in the first week. We also confirm where the tutor actually travels from, because a stated willingness to come to Indiabulls Blu and a sustainable weekly journey are different claims.

What we cannot do is sit in your living room, and that is where your own checks matter. There is no single best IB tutor in Indiabulls Blu, only the right match for one programme, one subject and one protected evening, and the intro call is how you find it. On the intro call, ask the tutor to name the assessment components your child will face this year and describe what a strong response looks like for one of them. Ask what they would do in the first two sessions. Ask how they handle a student who has not done the work set. The answers to those three questions separate a subject specialist from someone who is confident and well spoken, and no verification process substitutes for hearing them yourself.

Be wary of a tutor who offers a guaranteed grade, quotes a success percentage, or offers to produce internal assessment work. IB Gram does not guarantee grades and no honest tutor will either, because the final mark depends on moderation, on the student's own work and on an examination sat months later. A tutor who promises a specific number either does not understand the assessment model or is willing to mislead you about it, and neither is a person you want in your flat once a week.

On the practical side, verification also covers the building. Tutors working in a gated complex like this one are briefed that they will be signed in at the gate against a resident-approved visitor entry, that they go to the flat and not to common areas unless you have booked a study room, and that a change of tutor means a change of gate authorisation. If your society requires a photograph or an identity record for recurring visitors, the tutor provides it before the first visit rather than standing at the gate while someone calls your flat.

  • Identity, qualification and programme-level teaching experience checked before the profile reaches you
  • Ask the tutor to name this year's assessment components on the intro call
  • Ask what the first two sessions will cover and how unfinished work is handled
  • Be wary of a tutor who offers a guaranteed grade or a success percentage
  • Gate authorisation and visitor records are arranged before the first visit

Two school calendars, one tower: the Indiabulls Blu scheduling problem

Here is the thing that is true in this complex and almost nowhere else in Mumbai. Indiabulls Blu sits on the Worli–Lower Parel seam, within reach of both JBCN Parel to the north and the Tardeo schools to the south, so a single tutor working two or three flats in these towers is frequently covering two different school calendars in the same week. Parents here ask us for exactly that, and it is a reasonable ask, but it has consequences worth understanding before you book. An IB private tutor Indiabulls Blu families hire for one subject frequently ends up covering a second by the following term, which is where the calendar clash starts.

The upside is real. A tutor with students at both ends of the seam sees two sets of internal deadlines, two sets of mock papers and two interpretations of the same criteria, and that breadth makes them better at predicting what is coming. They will tell you in September that the second half of October is going to be ugly, because they have already watched it be ugly for a family two floors down. They also become efficient travellers: one trip to the tower, three flats, no wasted crossing of Haji Ali.

The cost is that your slot is competing with a deadline that is not your child's. If the tutor's other students are at a school whose submission week falls a fortnight before yours, that is the fortnight when your Thursday slot is most likely to be asked to move. The fix is unglamorous and effective: fix the slot in writing at the start of the term, agree one movable week per month, and agree what happens when both families need extra time in the same week. Families who do this keep the tutor; families who assume good intentions lose the slot.

There is a second consequence specific to a vertical building. A tutor travelling between flats in the same tower still spends real time in lifts and at the gate during peak residential hours, and three back-to-back sessions in one evening means the third one starts late. We schedule a buffer rather than pretending the lift does not exist. If you want the early evening slot, say so when you first write to us, because in these towers the 5pm and 6pm slots are allocated in the first fortnight of the school year and almost never free up after that.

  • A seam location means one tutor often covers both the Parel and Tardeo calendars
  • Breadth makes the tutor better at predicting the next ugly fortnight
  • Your slot competes with another family's submission week, so fix it in writing
  • Agree one movable session a month instead of negotiating every clash
  • Lift and gate time is real: back-to-back sessions in one tower need a buffer

What progress looks like at four weeks, one term and one exam cycle

At four weeks, do not look at marks. Four weekly sessions is enough time to change behaviour and not enough to move a grade, so the honest signals are behavioural. Is the student bringing their own questions to the session instead of waiting to be given some? Can they explain what the assessment criterion is asking for in their own words? Has the homework pattern changed from Sunday night panic to something spread across the week? If two of those three are true at four weeks, the arrangement is working, whatever the last test said.

At one term, you should see movement in the written work rather than only in confidence. A middle years student should be producing responses that actually address the command word instead of narrating everything they know. A Diploma student should have an internal assessment plan that survives contact with their teacher's feedback. If a full term has passed and the only change is that your child likes the tutor, something is wrong, and it is usually one of two things: the sessions have become homework supervision, or the diagnosis was wrong and the real gap is a year or two further back.

At one exam cycle, judge against the trajectory rather than against a target you set in September. Grades move for many reasons, including which paper came up and how a moderator read a sample. IB Gram does not guarantee grades, does not publish success rates, and has no way to control an examination sat months after a session. What a good tutor controls is preparation quality: whether the student walked in knowing how to read a question, allocate time and abandon a part they cannot do.

The honest limits are worth stating plainly. Weekly home tuition will not fix a subject chosen against the student's strengths, will not replace a school that is not teaching, and will not survive a student who has decided not to engage. It will not compress two years of missing foundations into a pre-examination term, though it can triage them. If a tutor tells you otherwise in the first conversation, that is useful information about the tutor. We would rather tell you in week one that the subject choice is the problem than sell you twenty sessions that cannot touch it.

  • Four weeks: behaviour change, not marks. Own questions, criteria in their own words
  • One term: written work addresses the command word instead of narrating content
  • One term with only improved rapport usually means the diagnosis was wrong
  • One exam cycle: judge preparation quality, because moderation is outside anyone's control
  • No tutor can fix a wrong subject choice with weekly sessions

Starting IB home classes in Indiabulls Blu, Mumbai

Getting started takes one message and about fifteen minutes of preparation on your side. Tell us the programme and year group, the subjects, the two evenings that are genuinely free, and whether you want the tutor at the flat or a mix of visits and calls. If your child has had a report with criterion letters or a recent test paper, have it to hand. We do not need it to shortlist, but the tutor will want it before the first visit, and a photograph of two marked pages tells a specialist more than a paragraph of description ever does.

On our side, the shortlist comes back with tutors who already teach between Worli, Lower Parel and Prabhadevi, with the subject and level they cover, and with the travel reality stated rather than implied. You speak to two or three. There is no obligation to book after a call, and we would rather you spoke to three and chose carefully than booked the first profile and replaced them in November. We are an independent platform in Mumbai, Maharashtra, matching parents to tutors; we are not a coaching chain and we are not affiliated with any school named on this page.

The first session is a diagnosis, not a lesson, and it should feel like one. Expect the tutor to ask the student to attempt something unfamiliar in front of them, to look through the last two pieces of marked work, and to spend part of the hour on how the student studies rather than on content. By the end they should be able to tell you, in plain language, what the actual gap is and roughly how long it takes to close. If they cannot, say so to us straight away rather than waiting a month.

Practicalities for this building: send us the tower and the preferred entry details once you have chosen a tutor, and we arrange the visitor authorisation before the first visit so nobody is standing at the gate at 6.55pm. An adult should be at home for the first session. Sessions run at the dining table or in a study room if you book one; we ask tutors not to teach in common areas. If a session is missed with notice, it is rescheduled within the same week wherever the tutor's other commitments allow.

  • Send programme, year group, subjects and two genuinely free evenings
  • Have a recent marked paper or report ready for the tutor, not for us
  • Speak to two or three tutors before booking anyone
  • First session is a diagnosis: expect unfamiliar work and a plain-language verdict
  • Gate authorisation arranged in advance; an adult at home for the first visit
FAQs

Indiabulls Blu tutoring — questions parents ask

What does an IB home tutor in Indiabulls Blu actually cost?+

IB tuition fees in Indiabulls Blu depend on five things, and anyone quoting you a single figure before asking about them is guessing. The programme and level matter most: Diploma Programme Higher Level work costs more per hour than middle years support, because fewer tutors can do it well. Subject scarcity is next, and it is the biggest swing. Travel distance matters because a tutor crossing Haji Ali in the evening prices that time in. Session length and frequency change the per-hour rate, and so does whether you want internal assessment supervision, which is more demanding than ordinary teaching. We will give you a range for your exact request rather than a price list.

Can a tutor travel to Indiabulls Blu for a 7pm weekday slot?+

Yes, provided the tutor is based inside the island. South Mumbai is short-distance but slow: a tutor coming from Worli, Prabhadevi or around Lower Parel station reaches your tower comfortably for a 7pm start, while one coming from Fort or Colaba may cover only eight kilometres and still lose forty minutes to the Peddar Road and Haji Ali signals in the evening peak. That is why we match within the island rather than bringing someone down from the suburbs. If your only free slot is 6pm, say so immediately, because early evening slots in these towers are taken in the first fortnight of the school year.

How does a tutor get a gate pass and reach our tower?+

You authorise them as a recurring visitor and we arrange it before the first visit. Once you have chosen a tutor we pass on their name and identity details so your building can record them for a standing weekly entry, which avoids the tutor waiting at the gate while someone calls your flat. If your complex requires a photograph or a separate register entry for repeat visitors, the tutor provides it in advance. When a tutor changes, the authorisation changes too, so tell us the same week rather than letting the old pass carry a new person.

My child is in MYP, not DP. Is a home tutor still worth it?+

Often it is the better moment, not the worse one. Middle Years Programme students are usually not short of knowledge; they are short of the specific moves each published criterion rewards, such as justifying a method rather than stating it, or evaluating a source rather than summarising it. That is teachable in a term of weekly sessions, and far cheaper to fix now than in the Diploma Programme, where the same gap shows up inside an internal assessment with a submission date attached. The honest exception is a Year 6 or 7 child who is coping fine and simply finding school demanding; there, a tutor every week can do more harm than good.

What happens if the tutor is not working out after three sessions?+

Tell us and we replace them, and you should tell us early rather than politely waiting. We check in after the fourth session for exactly this reason. In practice there are two different problems behind the same complaint. If the tutor is capable but the chemistry is wrong, a different tutor usually fixes it within a session. If the sessions have drifted into homework supervision, the problem is the brief rather than the person, so we reset what the sessions are for before swapping anyone. A replacement starts with a fresh diagnosis rather than inheriting the previous plan, and the new tutor needs new gate authorisation.

Does online IB tuition actually work for a Year 9 student?+

Usually not, and we would rather say so than take the booking. A Year 9 student who cannot yet work without an adult in the room needs the pressure a person in the room creates, and a screen removes precisely that. Online works well for a self-managing Diploma Programme student, for scarce Higher Level subjects where no specialist exists within the island, and for short pre-examination review calls. For a middle years student whose problem is starting rather than understanding, three months of online sessions commonly produce very little. Start with visits, and add calls later once the student can hold a task alone.

How quickly can IB home classes start in Indiabulls Blu?+

Usually within a few days of your first message, and the gating factor is almost never tutor availability. It is your evening and the gate. We can shortlist quickly because we match from tutors already teaching between Worli, Lower Parel and Prabhadevi, and intro calls can happen the same evening. What takes time is settling which weekday slot is genuinely protected and getting the visitor authorisation recorded for a recurring entry. If you are writing to us in the week before a submission deadline, say that in the first line, because the shortlist we build for a panic week is different from the one we build for a term.

Can one tutor cover two subjects in the same visit?+

Sometimes, and it depends entirely on how far apart the subjects are. Two sciences or two humanities within the same programme are often a reasonable pairing for one specialist. Mathematics and a language are not, and a tutor who claims both at Higher Level is usually strong in one of them. Where a pairing does work, we would still rather split the visit into two clearly bounded halves than let it blur, because a blurred session becomes whichever subject has homework due. For genuinely different subjects, two tutors on two evenings beats one tutor doing both adequately.

Do we need a parent at home during the session?+

For the first session, yes. An adult should be present when a new tutor arrives, both because your building records a resident-approved visitor and because the tutor will want five minutes with you at the end to say what the actual gap is. After that it is your call. Many families in these towers leave an adult or household staff member at home while the session runs at the dining table, which is what we would suggest for a younger child. For a Diploma student working at a desk, a parent in the flat but not in the room usually works better than one hovering.

What should we have ready before the first session?+

Three things, and none of them take long. The last two pieces of marked work, ideally with the teacher's comments still on them, because those tell a specialist more than any description you could write. The school's assessment or submission calendar for the term, which your coordinator can send you. A table with a chair and a plug, away from the television. If your child uses a school laptop for drafting, have it charged. Resist buying revision guides before the first session; the tutor will tell you which ones match the current subject guide and which are two revisions out of date.

Will a tutor promise a particular IB score?+

No, and you should treat it as a warning sign if one does. IB Gram does not guarantee grades and does not publish success rates, because the final result depends on moderation, on the student's own work and on an examination sat months after any session. A tutor who names a number is either misunderstanding how the assessment model works or is willing to mislead you about it. What a tutor can reasonably commit to is preparation quality: that the student will know how to read a question, allocate time across a paper and abandon a part they cannot finish. Ask for that commitment instead.

How do IB deadlines fall across the Mumbai school year?+

There are four predictable pressure points for international school families in Mumbai. A few weeks into the autumn term, middle years criterion tasks and Diploma internal assessment proposals arrive together. The pre-Diwali fortnight compresses work either side of a shortened school break. January and February bring DP2 mock examinations alongside final internal assessment submissions and Extended Essay deadlines. Then there is the quiet one after results, when a DP1 student discovers the subject combination is wrong. Ask your school coordinator for the submission calendar in the first fortnight of the year, because schools in Parel and Tardeo do not set theirs in the same weeks.
