How does IB Gram handle a request for an IB examiner tutor in Mumbai?

Directly: a request for an IB examiner tutor in Mumbai is treated here as a description of a skill rather than a credential anyone can confirm. IB Gram holds no examining records, does not ask tutors to declare examining work, and will never tell you that a tutor has marked for the International Baccalaureate (IB) or for Cambridge International Education. Instead we set up a test of the thing the phrase is really pointing at, which is the ability to mark a script accurately and then explain the band.

The test is simple and it works the same way whatever a tutor's background. You send your child's most recent piece of real work with the school's mark removed: a Diploma Programme (DP) Paper 2 answer, a Middle Years Programme (MYP) criterion-marked task, a Cambridge IGCSE Extended question, an Internal Assessment (IA) draft. We pass it to the shortlisted tutors. Each returns a band, a mark and two or three sentences tying that decision to the published assessment criteria for that component. You read the responses side by side. One is usually noticeably sharper than the others, and that is the person to book, regardless of what anybody has or has not examined.

This is also why we ask for the subject and the component before anything else. A tutor who is excellent on DP History Paper 3 is not automatically the right person for the historical investigation, and an IGCSE Mathematics specialist fluent on the Extended papers may not have taught the Core tier in years. Matching on the component, the tier and the next deadline produces a better shortlist than matching on a job title. Travel comes second, because an IB home tutor in Mumbai who cannot reliably reach Kharghar at 7pm on a Tuesday is not a match however good the marking sample looked.

  • 1. Tell us the board, subject, component and your next school deadline
  • 2. We shortlist two or three tutors who teach that exact component
  • 3. You send one real unmarked script; each tutor returns a band with reasons
  • 4. Compare those justifications against the published criteria, then choose
  • 5. Book a paid first session at home and fix the weekly slot
  • 6. Tell us inside the first fortnight if the fit is wrong

What examining actually is inside the IB and IGCSE systems

An examiner is almost always a practising teacher who applies to a board and is contracted for a single examination session to mark one component of one subject. The International Baccalaureate (IB) and Cambridge International Education both run the same broad machinery. A senior examiner sets the markscheme, a sample of real candidate scripts is marked to fix the standard, and every assistant examiner then has to prove they can apply that standard before live scripts are released to them. This is called standardisation, and it is the opposite of discretion: the job is to reproduce an agreed judgement, not to form a private one.

Across the programmes the shape of the work changes. In the Diploma Programme (DP) an examiner might mark one written paper, or moderate Internal Assessment (IA) samples sent in by schools, or read Extended Essays (EE), or mark Theory of Knowledge (TOK) essays. In the Middle Years Programme (MYP) the on-screen eAssessment examinations and ePortfolios are marked against published criteria strands. In the Primary Years Programme (PYP) there is no external examination at all, so nobody examines PYP. On the Cambridge side an IGCSE examiner marks one paper within one syllabus, and the Core and Extended tiers are separate papers with different grade ranges.

Two things follow from that structure and they matter more than anything else on this page. The first is that the work is narrow by design: one component, one subject, one session. The second is that it is confidential by contract. Examiners sign undertakings covering the papers they see, the markschemes they work from and the discussions they take part in. They do not receive future papers. They do not know grade boundaries, which are set after marking is complete on the basis of how the whole cohort performed. Nobody in Mumbai or anywhere else can sell you advance sight of any of it, and a tutor who implies otherwise is telling you something about their honesty rather than their expertise.

  • Examining is usually part-time contract work alongside a full teaching job
  • One component of one subject per session is the normal scope
  • Standardisation forces every marker onto one agreed standard before live scripts
  • Grade boundaries are set after marking, so no marker knows them early
  • Confidentiality undertakings cover papers, markschemes and examiner discussions

Which IB and IGCSE subjects and components a marker actually knows

Nobody examines all IB and IGCSE subjects a tutor in Mumbai teaches. Marking experience is granted one component at a time, so the useful question is which one. DP Economics Paper 1 and DP Economics Paper 3 are different animals: Paper 1 is an extended-response paper judged on definitions, diagrams, real-world examples and evaluation, while Paper 3 is the quantitative policy paper where a candidate loses marks for an unlabelled axis rather than for a thin argument. Someone who has marked many Paper 1 responses may be no more use on Paper 3 than a careful subject teacher.

The Higher Level (HL) and Standard Level (SL) decision is the next place the question bites. In Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches the HL and SL papers share topics but not depth, and the HL-only content sits exactly where most marks are lost. In the sciences both levels meet the same data-analysis structure, but HL carries additional content that changes how a long-answer question is read. In Cambridge IGCSE the parallel decision is Core versus Extended: a Core candidate is capped at a grade C, so moving a Year 10 student from Core to Extended in October is a bigger conversation than any marking tip, and it is a conversation with the school rather than with a tutor.

Then there are the internal assessments, which is where a marking eye is worth the most and where examiner status is murkiest. DP Biology carries a scientific investigation, DP History a historical investigation, DP English an individual oral, DP Visual Arts a comparative study and an exhibition. These are marked by the school teacher and then moderated by the board, so a person who worked on them was checking a school's application of the criteria rather than setting the standard. That is a genuinely useful background for an IA draft. It is also a background that tells you almost nothing about how the written papers are marked.

A home tutor for all IB and IGCSE subjects Mumbai schools offer does not exist, and you should be suspicious of anyone who says otherwise. What does exist is a tutor who owns two or three components properly and will say plainly where their ground ends.

  • Ask which paper or component was marked, not which subject
  • HL and SL share topics but lose marks in different places
  • IGCSE Core caps at grade C; Extended is a separate paper
  • Internal assessments are school-marked and board-moderated, not externally examined
  • The Primary Years Programme has no external examination, so nobody examines it

Where across Mumbai IB and IGCSE home tuition actually reaches

Searches for IB tutors near me Mumbai throw up the same problem every time: near me in this city is a travel-time question, not a distance question. IB Gram matches home tutors across six belts of Mumbai, Maharashtra, and the belt matters more than the kilometres. In South Mumbai the island is small and slow: a tutor going from Worli to Colaba covers about eight kilometres and can still lose forty minutes to the Peddar Road and Haji Ali signals at 6.30pm, so families in Cuffe Parade, Walkeshwar, Tardeo, Fort and Babulnath are matched within the island rather than brought down from the suburbs. Metro Line 3 and the Coastal Road have changed that arithmetic for some streets and not at all for others.

The Western Suburbs run north to south along the Western Line and the Western Express Highway, so matching along the line works and matching across it does not. Khar West to Santacruz holds. Malad to Kandivali holds. Juhu to Mulund does not. Bandra, Andheri West, Versova, Goregaon East, Borivali, Oshiwara and Dahisar East each have their own evening profile, and Metro Lines 2A and 7 have made Dahisar to Andheri a realistic commute for a tutor who does not drive. The Bandra-Worli Sea Link is what makes a Bandra tutor viable in Worli and nowhere further south.

The Central Suburbs sit on the Central Line and the Eastern Express Highway with Powai and Chandivali hanging off JVLR in between. Powai has no station of its own, so tutors reach Hiranandani Gardens by road from Andheri East, Kanjurmarg or Ghatkopar, and the Santacruz-Chembur Link Road (SCLR) is the single piece of infrastructure that makes a Chembur tutor usable in Kurla. In the Eastern Suburbs, from Chembur and Govandi through Vikhroli and Bhandup up to Mulund West, the Harbour Line and the Eastern Freeway do the work: the Freeway makes Parel reachable from Wadala far faster than the map suggests.

Navi Mumbai is planned in nodes, so tutors are matched node to node. Vashi, Nerul, Belapur, Kharghar and Panvel sit a short drive apart on Palm Beach Road and the Sion-Panvel Highway, and the Atal Setu has shortened the Sewri crossing without making a weekday evening lesson from the island city sustainable for a full term. Thane spreads west to east from the station across Pokhran Road, Majiwada and Ghodbunder Road, and Ghodbunder sets the timetable: station to Kasarvadavali is twenty minutes off-peak and close to an hour at 7pm. The Trans-Harbour Line links Thane to Vashi for tutors who prefer the train to the highway.

  • South Mumbai: Colaba, Cuffe Parade, Worli, Walkeshwar, Tardeo, Fort, Babulnath
  • Western Suburbs: Bandra, Khar West, Santacruz, Juhu, Andheri West, Goregaon East, Borivali
  • Central Suburbs: Powai, Chandivali, Kurla, Ghatkopar, Vikhroli, Kanjurmarg, Andheri East
  • Eastern Suburbs: Chembur, Govandi, Bhandup, Mulund West, Wadala, Vikhroli
  • Navi Mumbai: Vashi, Nerul, Belapur, Kharghar and Panvel on Palm Beach Road
  • Thane: Pokhran Road, Majiwada, Ghodbunder Road, Kasarvadavali, with Mulund crossovers

How the Mumbai school calendar decides when a marking eye is worth paying for

Mumbai's international schools run an August to May year, and that single fact decides when an IB examiner tutor in Mumbai is actually worth hiring. August and September are for choosing subjects and tiers at Dhirubhai Ambani International School, Ecole Mondiale World School, Jamnabai Narsee International School and the rest, and a marking eye is nearly useless then because nothing has been written yet. October and November are when the first real scripts come back and the gap between a parent's expectation and the band on the page opens up. That is the month to hire.

December and January are the Internal Assessment (IA) months, and they are where a moderator's instinct pays for itself. A DP2 student at Cathedral and John Connon School or B.D. Somani International School is typically holding a science investigation draft, a Theory of Knowledge (TOK) essay and the final Extended Essay (EE) submission inside the same six weeks, with the school's internal deadline running three or four weeks ahead of the board's. No tutor knows your school's internal deadline. Ask the coordinator, write it on the fridge, and give the tutor the school date rather than the board date.

February and March are mock season. Mocks are marked inside the school against the published markschemes and they are the best diagnostic a parent will get all year, which is why the right move in February is to hand the mock script to the tutor rather than ask for more content teaching. April and early May are consolidation and exam technique only, because by then the content window has closed. Cambridge IGCSE candidates at Smt. Sulochanadevi Singhania School in Thane, Bombay Cambridge International School in Andheri East or D.Y. Patil International School in Nerul sit the May and June series, and their calendar runs a few weeks behind the DP one.

IB Gram is an independent platform and is not affiliated with any school named here, nor with the International Baccalaureate organisation or Cambridge International Education. We name these schools because their calendars are the real deadlines Mumbai families work to, and because a tutor who has to be told what a Hiranandani Foundation School mock looks like will cost you a fortnight learning it.

  • August and September: subject, level and tier decisions, not marking
  • October and November: first real scripts come back; the best time to start
  • December and January: internal assessment and Extended Essay crunch
  • February and March: mocks, the strongest diagnostic of the year
  • April and May: technique and timing only, content window closed

Home, online or hybrid for an IB examiner tutor in Mumbai?

Home first, for almost every family. A tutor sitting at your dining table with your child's script and a pen does this job better than any screen, because marking is physical work: annotating, crossing out, pointing at the exact clause that cost a mark. An IB examiner tutor in Mumbai working in your flat also sees the things a camera never shows, like the phone face-up beside the paper and the three subjects stacked in the wrong order.

The honest cost of home tuition in Mumbai is travel. A tutor crossing from Chembur to Powai on the SCLR and JVLR at 6pm pays for that journey in time, and you pay for it in rate and in the rigidity of the slot. Home tuition works best as a standing weekly appointment in a predictable window, and it becomes fragile the moment you want 9pm on alternating days. All IB and IGCSE subjects in home classes Mumbai parents arrange carry the same constraint: the narrower the subject, the further the tutor travels, and the firmer the slot has to be.

An IB online tutor in Mumbai is the right answer in three specific situations and a compromise in the rest. The first is scarcity: DP Further Mathematics HL, DP Japanese B or DP Philosophy may have nobody at all in your belt, and a screen beats the wrong subject specialist every time. The second is the Ghodbunder Road and Peddar Road problem, where the commute is longer than the lesson. The third is the fortnight before a paper, when three short forty-minute sessions beat one long block. Document cameras and annotated PDFs have made script marking genuinely workable online. What online loses is the ambient information a tutor picks up in your home.

Hybrid is what most families in Mumbai drift into by the second term without planning it: one home session a week for the long work and the marking, one short online session for questions, drills and a quick look at a draft. If you are weighing the options, book the first session at home anyway. A tutor who can mark a script in front of you and defend the band to your face is worth meeting once in person, even if everything after that happens on a screen.

  • Home: best for marking, drafts and seeing how your child works
  • Home tuition needs a standing weekly slot to survive Mumbai evening traffic
  • Online: right for scarce subjects, long commutes and short pre-exam sessions
  • Hybrid: one home session for depth, one online session for drills
  • Book the first session at home whatever you settle on afterwards

Can a parent in Mumbai verify that a tutor has really examined?

No, and that is the most useful fact on this page. Examining contracts are between a board and an individual and are covered by confidentiality. There is no public register of examiners, no certificate a parent can look up, and no mechanism by which a platform could confirm or deny the claim. Any website telling you it has verified an IB examiner tutor in Mumbai is verifying a self-declaration, which is not verification at all.

So stop trying to check the label and check the skill instead. Hand the tutor a real script your child wrote, with the school's mark and comments removed. Ask for three things: the band or mark, the specific criterion or markscheme point that places it there, and the smallest single change that would move it up one band. A person with a genuine marking background does this quickly, does not flatter the script, and quotes the descriptor language rather than paraphrasing around it. Someone without that background gives you a general impression and a reassuring number.

What IB Gram does verify is ordinary and checkable: identity, the qualification a tutor claims, the subjects and components they say they teach, references from families they have taught, and a demonstration lesson you watch. We also ask every tutor to confirm in writing that they will not discuss unreleased examination material of any kind. What we do not do is grade a tutor's examining history, because we cannot, and we would rather say so than hand you a badge that means nothing.

The firm rule, and it is not negotiable: decline anyone who offers inside knowledge. A tutor who hints at a predicted paper, claims to know what is on the next session's questions, offers an unreleased markscheme, says they can tell you this year's grade boundaries, or suggests any influence over a grade is either inventing it or breaking an undertaking. Either way they are a risk to your child's candidature, because academic misconduct is handled by the board and the consequences land on the candidate, not on the tutor. Walk away, and tell us who it was.

  • There is no public examiner register, so the claim cannot be checked
  • Ask for a band, the exact criterion, and the smallest improvement
  • A real marker quotes descriptor language instead of paraphrasing around it
  • IB Gram checks identity, qualifications, components, references and a demo lesson
  • Decline anyone offering predicted papers, markschemes or promises about results

What examining genuinely teaches, and the five things it does not

Strip away the mystique and marking teaches four real things. The first is band discrimination: after enough scripts you stop reading for content and start reading for the difference between a 5 and a 6, which is usually one move the candidate did or did not make. The second is sentence-level economy, the habit of seeing which sentence earns the mark and which paragraph, however well written, earns nothing because it never answered the command term. The third is error familiarity, the long catalogue of mistakes that candidates make in the same place on the same question, year after year. The fourth is honesty: a marker can look at your child's script and say which band it is in, today, without softening it.

That fourth one is the thing actually worth paying for. Most parents in Mumbai have never been given a straight answer about where their child stands, because the school is managing a cohort and a tutor who wants the work has an incentive to be encouraging. A person who has marked to a fixed standard will say this is a 4, here is why, and here is the one habit that makes it a 5, and will not mind being unpopular for a session. That is the service. It is also a service you can test in twenty minutes, which is exactly why the script test matters more than the credential.

Now the limits, and they are larger than the strengths. One: the scope is one component of one subject in one session, so a marker of DP Chemistry Paper 2 is an ordinary teacher on the Internal Assessment (IA) and a stranger to the Paper 3 options. Two: no examiner has any knowledge of future papers, and grade boundaries are decided after the marking is finished, from the cohort's performance. Three: no examiner has any influence over any candidate's grade, including a candidate they tutor, and the system is built specifically to prevent that. Four: nobody outside your school knows your school's internal submission deadlines, and those are the deadlines that actually govern your December.

Five, and this is the limit parents least expect: marking teaches you to judge finished work, not to build a student from behind. Taking a Year 11 IGCSE candidate from a predicted E to a C over seven months is a teaching problem, not a marking problem. It needs patience with gaps from three years ago, a tolerance for repetition, and a week-by-week plan that nobody enjoys writing, and plenty of excellent markers have never done it. If your child is behind rather than stuck, a steady subject teacher who tracks the basics is the better hire, and the best IB tutor in Mumbai for your situation may never have marked a script in their life.

  • Builds band discrimination: what separates a 5 from a 6
  • Builds an eye for the sentence that earns a mark
  • Builds familiarity with the mistakes candidates repeat in the same place
  • Cannot see future papers or boundaries, and influences no grade
  • Often no experience of taking a failing candidate up to a pass
  • Knows nothing about your own school's internal submission deadlines

What should progress look like at four weeks, one term and one exam cycle?

At four weeks you should see process, not marks. A tutor doing the job has produced a written diagnosis naming where your child loses marks, has changed how one task is attempted, and can show you a before-and-after on a single question. Four weeks is too early for a grade to move, and any tutor promising a jump inside a month is selling you something.

At one term, which in Mumbai means roughly August to the October break or November to the February mocks, you should see a band move on the specific component you targeted. If you hired for evaluation marks on DP Economics Paper 1, the Paper 1 mock should show evaluation marks. You should also see the thing nobody advertises: your child arguing back about a markscheme point, which is the clearest sign the standard has moved inside their head rather than onto a worksheet somewhere.

Over a full exam cycle the honest picture is less tidy. A move of a grade or two on a component you actually worked on is a realistic good outcome. A three-grade jump across six subjects does not happen because of tutoring, whatever anybody tells you. IB Gram does not guarantee grades and will not put a figure on what any tutor will achieve, because your child sits the paper and the boundary is set from the whole cohort. We are an independent platform and are not affiliated with the International Baccalaureate organisation, Cambridge International Education or any school.

When it is not working, say so early. The failures are predictable: the tutor is teaching content when the problem was technique, the slot is at 9pm after a long school day and a long commute home, or the chemistry is simply wrong and your child has stopped asking questions. Tell us in the first fortnight rather than the third month and we re-shortlist from the same component pool, and we ask the outgoing tutor to hand over the written diagnosis so the replacement does not start from zero.

  • Four weeks: a written diagnosis and one changed habit, not marks
  • One term: a band move on the component you actually hired for
  • One exam cycle: a grade or two on targeted components is realistic
  • A three-grade jump across every subject is not a promise anyone can make
  • Tell us inside the first fortnight if the fit is wrong

Starting IB home tuition in Mumbai: what to have ready

Have four things ready before the first call and the match takes a day instead of a week. The board and programme, exactly: Diploma Programme year 1 or year 2, Middle Years Programme year, or Cambridge IGCSE Year 10 or Year 11. The subject and the level: Higher Level (HL), Standard Level (SL), Core or Extended. The next three deadlines from your school's calendar, including internal submission dates. And one real, recent, unmarked script.

That script is the whole thing. It is the input to the marking test, it is the first session's agenda, and it is the baseline you will measure the term against. Photograph every page including the question paper, and send the school's mark separately rather than on the script itself, so that the tutor's band is formed independently. If the most recent work is an Internal Assessment (IA) draft, include the criteria sheet your teacher issued with it.

The first paid session runs about ninety minutes and should be mostly diagnostic. Expect the tutor to mark the script in front of your child, explain the band against the published criteria, take one question and redo it to a higher band, then write a short plan naming the component, the weekly focus and the next deadline. You should get that plan in writing. If you do not, ask for it, and if it still does not arrive, that is your answer about whether to continue.

On logistics: IB home tuition in Mumbai runs best on a fixed weekday evening slot agreed for the whole term, with the society gate pass arranged once rather than every week. Tell us your building's visitor protocol up front, whether that is a Hiranandani Gardens tower in Powai, a Palm Beach Road society in Nerul or a Peddar Road building with one working lift. An IB private tutor Mumbai families keep for a full year is almost always one whose slot never had to be renegotiated.

  • Board, programme year, subject and level, written down exactly
  • Your school's next three deadlines, including internal submission dates
  • One recent unmarked script, photographed with the question paper
  • Your building's visitor and gate-pass protocol for a standing slot
  • A preferred weekday evening window you can actually hold for a term
FAQs

Mumbai tutoring — questions parents ask

Does IB Gram have IB examiners on its platform?+

No. IB Gram does not employ, supply or list examiners, and we do not verify examining status for any tutor. Examining contracts are confidential and there is no register a platform could check, so any claim you read anywhere about an IB examiner tutor in Mumbai is a self-declaration. What we do instead is match on the component your child is sitting and set up a marking test: a real script, an honest band, and a justification against the published criteria. If a tutor volunteers that they have marked, treat it as unverified background and judge the script test.

What can a marker actually teach my child that a good subject teacher cannot?+

Band discrimination, mostly. A marker has read enough scripts to know what separates a 5 from a 6 on one specific component, which sentence earns a mark, and which well-written paragraph earns nothing because it ignored the command term. That is a narrow and real advantage on written papers. It is not an advantage on building missing content, on an Internal Assessment your school will moderate, or on a student who is two years behind. Decide which of those problems you actually have before you pay a premium for the wrong one.

Can an examiner tell me the grade boundaries or what is on the next paper?+

No, and anyone who says otherwise is either inventing it or breaching a confidentiality undertaking. Grade boundaries are set after marking is complete, from how the whole cohort performed, so no marker knows them in advance. Future papers are not circulated to markers either. An examiner marks one component of one subject in one session, under standardisation, to a markscheme written by somebody else. If a tutor in Mumbai hints at predicted papers, unreleased markschemes or inside information, decline them and tell us. It puts your child's candidature at risk for nothing.

Is ex-examiner on a tutor profile worth anything?+

On its own, very little. It does not say which subject, which component, which session, or whether the person marked once or repeatedly, and it says nothing at all about whether they can teach. It is also unverifiable. Treat it the way you would treat ex-banker on a CV: possibly relevant background, not a qualification. The useful version of the claim is specific and testable, as in I have marked this component and here is your daughter's answer banded against the markscheme with reasons. Ask for that version and ignore the label.

My son is at Dhirubhai Ambani International School and his first DP1 Physics score was a 3. Is a marker the right hire?+

Probably not yet. A 3 in DP1 Physics usually means content gaps rather than technique, and marking expertise fixes technique. Send the script to two shortlisted tutors and ask each to say whether the lost marks are knowledge or presentation. If the answer is knowledge, hire a patient subject teacher for home tuition in the Western Suburbs or wherever you are, and revisit technique in DP2 before the mocks. If the answer is presentation, which happens more often in Physics extended responses than parents expect, a marking eye will pay for itself quickly.

What do IB tuition fees in Mumbai depend on?+

Board, level, subject scarcity, travel and session length, roughly in that order. Diploma Programme Higher Level work costs more than Middle Years Programme work. A scarce subject such as DP Japanese B or DP Further Mathematics HL costs more than DP Business Management simply because fewer people can teach it. A tutor crossing Ghodbunder Road or the Sea Link in the evening peak prices that journey in. Ninety-minute sessions usually cost less per hour than sixty-minute ones. We do not publish a rate card because any single figure would be wrong for most families, so ask for a quote against your real component and slot.

Will a tutor really come to our building in Kharghar on a weekday evening?+

Yes, if the slot is fixed and the tutor is matched from the right node. Navi Mumbai works node to node: a Kharghar family is matched from Kharghar, Belapur or Panvel rather than from Bandra, because an evening crossing of the Atal Setu or the Sion-Panvel Highway for a 7pm lesson does not survive a full term. Agree the day and time for the whole term, get a standing gate pass issued at the society office once, and keep a message group with the tutor for the evening when the Harbour Line stops.

Does someone need to be at home during a home tuition session?+

An adult should be in the flat, but not in the room. Keep the door open, sit within earshot and stay out of the lesson itself. Give the tutor the dining table rather than a bedroom: better light, fewer distractions, and a surface big enough for a question paper, a markscheme and a script side by side. Mute the television. If both parents work late, a grandparent or an older sibling at home is fine. Online sessions need the same arrangement, which parents often forget: a shared room, not a closed bedroom door.

We live in Powai and the tutor we want lives in Chembur. Is that workable?+

Yes, but build the slot around the SCLR rather than around the clock. Chembur to Powai runs on the Santacruz-Chembur Link Road and JVLR, which is about twenty-five minutes at 4pm and considerably worse at 6.30pm, so a 7.30pm start with a ninety-minute session tends to hold better than a 6pm one. Hiranandani Gardens towers want pre-cleared visitor entry, so lodge the tutor's details with the society office for the term. If the commute keeps failing, move one of the two weekly sessions online and keep the longer one at home.

There has been no progress after a month. What should I do?+

Ask for the written diagnosis and compare it against what you have actually seen change. After four weeks you should have a named list of where marks are lost, one altered habit, and a before-and-after on a single question; marks themselves rarely move that fast. If the diagnosis does not exist, the problem is the tutor. If it exists but nothing has changed, the problem is usually the slot, the subject match or the component you chose. Tell us in the first fortnight rather than the third month and we re-shortlist from the same component pool.

Does online tuition really work for marking scripts?+

Yes, better than it used to, with one condition: the script has to be visible to both people at the same time. A document camera, a tablet the tutor annotates live, or a scanned PDF marked up on screen all work, and an IB online tutor in Mumbai can band a long written answer about as reliably on a screen as at your table. What online genuinely loses is everything around the script: whether your child is on a phone, how the desk is set up, and whether they went quiet because they were thinking or because they were lost.

Can one tutor cover all of my child's subjects?+

No, and nobody honest will claim to. Expertise is component-deep rather than catalogue-wide, so two tutors covering four subjects between them is normal and three is manageable. If you think you need five, prioritise instead: the subject with the lowest band, the subject with the nearest internal assessment deadline, and the Higher Level subject that will decide the total. Leave the rest to school and a written study timetable until the first two are stable. Spreading a budget across five tutors usually produces five shallow relationships and no band movement.
