How IB Gram matches an IB DP Spanish B home tutor in Mumbai

The requests that reach us are usually precise, and that is useful. A parent writes that their daughter is in DP1 at a school in Bandra, taking Spanish B at Standard Level (SL), that her reading is fine but her written tasks come back with comments about register, and that her individual oral is scheduled for the window her school has set. That is enough to shortlist against. It is not enough to send a list of every Spanish speaker who is free on Tuesdays, which is what most searches produce.

Spanish B is a scarcer subject here than Mathematics or Physics, and pretending otherwise wastes a family's week. There are fewer tutors in Mumbai who have actually taught the Diploma Programme (DP) language acquisition course, as opposed to conversational Spanish or a certification course run by a cultural institute. Those are respectable jobs and they are not this job. A tutor who has never marked a Paper 1 writing task against the published assessment criteria will teach vocabulary and grammar well and still leave the student guessing about what a blog post is supposed to sound like.

So the shortlist is built on component experience first and geography second. We ask which text types the tutor has taught, how they prepare a student for the follow-up questions after the visual stimulus, and whether they mark written work with criteria language or with a red pen and a score out of ten. Only then do we look at whether they can realistically reach Chembur at seven on a Wednesday for a full term.

What a family is really booking is a Spanish B IB Diploma Programme (DP), Years 1-2 tutor Mumbai schools would recognise as competent across both years, not a weekly conversation partner. The process below is the whole of it, and it runs in days rather than weeks.

  • 1. Send the year, level, school and the two components that worry you most
  • 2. We shortlist Spanish B tutors by component experience, then by travel reality
  • 3. You see subject history, zone coverage and genuine weekday evening availability
  • 4. The first session diagnoses writing and speaking before anyone writes a plan
  • 5. You confirm a standing weekly slot, or tell us the match is wrong

Where Spanish B sits in the Diploma Programme

Spanish B is a language acquisition course for students who already have some experience of Spanish, which is the single fact most parents are hazy about when they call. It is not a beginners course and it is not a literature course in Spanish. It assumes the student arrives able to understand and produce language, and it then asks them to do something harder: handle unfamiliar texts, write for a named audience in a named text type, and talk about ideas rather than about themselves.

The course is organised around themes that recur across the two years, covering identity, experiences, human ingenuity, social organisation and the way people share the planet. Those themes are the furniture for everything else. A student who has thought about migration, work, technology and the environment in Spanish has something to say when a visual stimulus about any of them appears. A student who has only drilled verb tables has correct grammar and nothing to attach it to.

Both Higher Level (HL) and Standard Level (SL) exist, and HL adds a literary element, but which of those a student takes is decided by the school together with the family, and a sibling page handles that choice in detail. For this page the point is narrower: whichever level your child is in, the assessed writing and the internally assessed oral are where tutoring has the most direct effect, because both are skills that respond to deliberate practice within a term.

One more thing worth saying plainly to Mumbai families. A student who already moves between Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Tamil or Konkani and English at home is at an advantage in a language acquisition course, not a disadvantage. They already know what it feels like to switch register and to hold two systems in their head. Good tutors use that experience out loud instead of treating Spanish as a first encounter with multilingualism.

  • Spanish B assumes prior experience of the language, not a standing start
  • Course themes give the student material to actually say something about
  • HL and SL differ; the school and family choose the level together
  • Assessed writing and the individual oral respond fastest to weekly teaching
  • Students who already juggle two or three languages start ahead here

What Paper 1 and the individual oral actually ask for

Paper 1 is a writing task. The prompt gives a situation, an audience and a purpose, and names the text type the student must write in. The text type is the part families underestimate. A formal letter to a municipal officer, a blog entry for other sixteen-year-olds, an article for a school magazine and a speech delivered to an assembly can carry exactly the same argument and still score very differently, because each one has conventions a reader expects. The letter needs an opening salutation and a controlled, impersonal register. The blog can address the reader directly and use a looser sentence rhythm. The speech needs to be heard rather than read, so it wants repetition, direct questions and signposting. An article needs a headline and a stance.

Which is why the discipline we teach first is the one before the pen moves. Who is reading this, what do they already know, what do I want them to do differently afterwards, and what register does that combination demand? Three minutes on those four questions changes more marks than three hundred extra words of vocabulary. The student who skips them writes a good general essay in Spanish and loses credit for a text type they never really attempted. An IB DP Spanish B home tutor in Mumbai earns their hour by forcing that habit until it becomes automatic.

The individual oral is internally assessed, which means the student's own teacher conducts and marks it, and it is built on a visual stimulus linked to a course theme. The commonest failure is inventory: the student lists what is visible, runs out of nouns in ninety seconds, and then has nothing left for the discussion. The fix is analytical description. What is this image arguing? Who made it and for whom? What is deliberately outside the frame? A student who treats the stimulus as a claim to be examined has material for the presentation and, more importantly, for the follow-up questions, which is where a prepared monologue collapses and a thinking student keeps going.

Paper 2 covers listening and reading, and a sibling page takes exposure and audio practice as its subject. Here it matters only as a reminder that receptive and productive skills feed each other: a student who has heard how a Mexican radio presenter builds an argument writes better articles in Spanish than one who has only read textbook passages. For the current structure of each component, check your school's current subject guide with the DP coordinator rather than any summary online, including this one.

  • Text type conventions carry marks: a letter, a blog and a speech differ
  • Audience, purpose and register are decided before the first sentence
  • Describe the visual stimulus analytically; never inventory what is visible
  • Follow-up questions reward thinking, and expose memorised monologues fast
  • Check component structure with your DP coordinator, not with web summaries

Spanish B home tuition coverage across Mumbai, zone by zone

Spanish B tutors are not spread evenly across Mumbai, Maharashtra, so honest coverage means saying where the weekly visit is easy and where it needs planning. In South Mumbai, families in Colaba, Cuffe Parade, Walkeshwar, Babulnath and Tardeo are usually matched within the island, because a tutor coming down from the suburbs for a 6.30pm slot will be reliable in July and unreliable by October. Eight kilometres from Worli to Colaba is nothing on a map and forty minutes at the Peddar Road and Haji Ali signals. The Coastal Road has changed some of those runs, the Western Line from Churchgate through Grant Road and Mumbai Central handles others, and Metro Line 3 from Cuffe Parade towards BKC has made the BKC schools reachable without the Sea Link.

The Western Suburbs hold the largest concentration of Spanish B demand, from Bandra and Khar West through Santacruz and Juhu up to Andheri, Goregaon East, Malad, Kandivali, Borivali and Dahisar. Matching along the Western Line or the Metro, Khar to Santacruz or Malad to Kandivali, works far better than matching across the Western Express Highway at six in the evening. Metro Lines 2A and 7 between Dahisar, Andheri and Gundavali have made the northern stretch viable for tutors who previously refused anything past Malad, and Link Road remains the fallback when the Highway is standing still.

The Central Suburbs sit on the Central Line from Kurla to Mulund, with Powai and Chandivali hanging off JVLR in between. Powai is the odd case: physically central, no station of its own, so an IB DP Spanish B home tutor in Mumbai reaching Hiranandani Gardens arrives by road from Andheri East, Kanjurmarg or Ghatkopar, and the SCLR is what makes a Chembur-based tutor possible there at all. In the Eastern Suburbs, Chembur, Govandi, Vikhroli, Bhandup and Mulund are served by the Central and Harbour lines and the Eastern Express Highway, and the Eastern Freeway makes South Mumbai far closer to Chembur and Wadala than families expect.

Navi Mumbai works in nodes, and we match node to node. Vashi, Nerul, Belapur, Kharghar and Panvel are each a short drive from the next along Palm Beach Road and the Sion-Panvel Highway, and the Atal Setu has genuinely shortened the island crossing, but pulling a tutor over the creek for a weekday evening lesson still rarely survives a full term. Thane spreads from the station east and west across Pokhran Road, Majiwada and Ghodbunder Road, and Ghodbunder sets the timetable: twenty minutes to Kasarvadavali off-peak, close to an hour in the evening peak. Thane tutors cover Thane; Mulund tutors sometimes cross on the Eastern Express Highway, and the Trans-Harbour Line links Thane to Vashi for the handful who commute both ways.

  • South Mumbai matches within the island: Colaba, Worli, Tardeo, Babulnath
  • Western Suburbs match along the line, not across the Highway at 6pm
  • Powai and Chandivali are reached by road via JVLR or the SCLR
  • Navi Mumbai is matched node to node along Palm Beach Road
  • Ghodbunder Road, not distance, decides what a Thane slot really costs

How the Mumbai school year squeezes the writing and the oral

Mumbai IB families deal with a calendar that stacks internal deadlines on top of each other, and the oral is the component most often left until it is urgent. Students at Dhirubhai Ambani International School, the American School of Bombay and Ascend International School in BKC, at Ecole Mondiale World School, Jamnabai Narsee International School and Utpal Shanghvi Global School in Juhu, at Oberoi International School off JVLR, at B.D. Somani International School in Cuffe Parade, Cathedral and John Connon School in Fort, Bombay International School at Babulnath and Aditya Birla World Academy in Tardeo all run their own internal dates for recording the individual oral. Those dates are set by the school, not by us, and your DP coordinator is the only reliable source for them.

The shape of the pressure is predictable even when the dates are not. The academic year opens after the summer, runs into a short Diwali break while DP1 students are still finding out what the course demands, and then DP2 arrives with Internal Assessment (IA) drafts, the Extended Essay (EE) and Theory of Knowledge (TOK) essay converging in the same weeks. A DP2 student in Mulund with her Spanish oral in one fortnight and a TOK essay draft in the next does not need two extra subjects of homework. She needs someone who can run a tight weekly hour and refuse to add to the pile.

Which is why we tell families to start Spanish B home tuition in the quieter months rather than the loud ones. Writing improves on a schedule of one marked task a week over ten weeks. It does not improve on four tasks in the last fortnight, because the student never gets the gap between writing and reading the feedback that makes the correction stick. The same is true of the oral: six short recorded practices spread across a term beat one panicked rehearsal weekend.

Families at Hiranandani Foundation School in Powai, NES International School in Mulund West, Thakur International School in Kandivali East, Smt. Sulochanadevi Singhania School in Thane and D.Y. Patil International School in Nerul often ask whether a tutor can align to the school's scheme of work. A good one asks for it in the first session. IB Gram is an independent platform and is not affiliated with any school named here, with the International Baccalaureate organisation, or with any language-certification body; naming schools is local context, nothing more.

  • Schools set their own internal oral windows; ask your DP coordinator
  • DP2 stacks IA drafts, the EE and the TOK essay into the same weeks
  • One marked writing task a week over a term beats a late sprint
  • Six short recorded oral practices beat one rehearsal weekend
  • Naming a school is context: IB Gram has no relationship with any of them

Home classes, online or hybrid for Spanish B in Mumbai?

Home tutoring is the lead option, and for Spanish B it earns that position for a specific reason: speaking in front of another person in your own living room is the closest low-stakes rehearsal for an oral conducted by a teacher you see every day. A screen gives a student somewhere to hide. An IB DP Spanish B home tutor in Mumbai sitting across the table notices the pause before every subjunctive, the glance at the notes, the fallback into English when a word goes missing, and can interrupt in the moment rather than in a message afterwards. Home classes also mean the student's own folder, textbook and marked scripts are on the table, which sounds trivial until you have watched twenty minutes of a session go on finding a file.

The honest costs of home tuition are travel and rigidity. A tutor crossing from Andheri to Powai in the evening peak is committing ninety minutes of unpaid time around your hour, and that is what makes a 7pm Tuesday slot harder to fill than a 4pm Saturday one. If a family wants two sessions a week, the second is often easier to place at a weekend. Travel also makes the slot fragile: one Ghodbunder Road jam and the session starts twenty minutes late.

Online suits a different set of constraints, and a sibling page covers it properly. In short: it removes the travel problem, widens the pool of genuinely experienced Spanish B teachers well beyond your zone, and is the sensible choice for a family in Panvel or Kasarvadavali who would otherwise wait weeks for a local match. Its real weakness is that the exam papers are handwritten, so timed longhand work has to be photographed and sent for marking.

Hybrid is what most of our Spanish B families settle into by the second term, and we recommend it openly. One home visit a week for speaking practice, marked writing and the awkward conversation about what is not working, plus one shorter online session for listening practice and a quick review of a draft. It costs less travel than two home visits and keeps the face-to-face contact that the oral needs. An IB online tutor in Mumbai can run that second session from anywhere, which is also what keeps it from being cancelled.

  • Home classes give real speaking rehearsal with nowhere for the student to hide
  • Marked scripts and the school folder stay on the table, not in a chat
  • Travel makes weekday evening home slots scarcer than weekend ones
  • Online widens the Spanish B pool for Panvel, Dahisar and Kasarvadavali
  • Hybrid works best: one home visit weekly plus one shorter online review

How is an IB DP Spanish B home tutor in Mumbai checked?

Before a tutor is listed, we verify identity with a government photo document, confirm the qualifications they claim in Spanish and in teaching, and check their subject history by asking for specifics only a real Spanish B teacher can give. Which text types have you taught to a DP class? Walk me through how you prepare a student for the follow-up questions after a visual stimulus. How do you mark a written task so the student knows what to change? Vague answers end the conversation. We also ask for references we can actually call, and we check that a tutor claiming Diploma experience can describe the difference between teaching Spanish B and teaching a beginners course.

What we cannot do is sit in your living room every week, which is why half of verification belongs to the parent. Ask for a marked sample of a student's written task with the tutor's comments on it, names removed. Comments that quote criteria language and name a specific fix are the signal. A score and the word 'good' is not. Ask what the first four weeks will cover and whether you will see the error log. Sit within earshot of the second session, not the first, when both of them have stopped performing.

Be wary of anyone who offers a guaranteed grade, and treat a tutor who promises a specific grade in Spanish B as someone who has not understood the assessment. Be equally wary of an offer to 'help with' a written task in a way that means producing text for the student. The boundary is covered in detail below and it is not negotiable. Any IB home tutor in Mumbai worth booking will state it themselves before you ask.

One Spanish-specific check. Ask which varieties of Spanish the tutor is comfortable teaching and how they handle a student whose school materials come from Spain while their listening practice is largely Latin American. The right answer is that peninsular and Latin American Spanish are both fully legitimate, that students are routinely taught either, and that the useful work is building recognition across the Spanish-speaking world rather than correcting one variety into another. A tutor who treats a student's Spanish as wrong because it is not their own has told you something important.

  • Identity, qualifications and Spanish B component experience are checked first
  • Ask for a marked written task with comments, with names removed
  • Criteria language and a named fix beat a score and the word good
  • Sit within earshot of the second session rather than the first
  • Ask how the tutor handles peninsular and Latin American varieties together

What may a tutor mark, and what must the student write alone?

A tutor may teach, may explain, may question, may mark and may hand back detailed feedback. A tutor may not write, redraft, dictate, translate or supply any part of a submission the student puts their name to. There is no soft version of that line. A written task that contains a tutor's sentences is not the student's work, and the risk sits entirely on the student, which is reason enough to be rigid about it before anyone is tired and a deadline is three days away.

In practice the line is easy to hold once everyone knows where it runs. The tutor can say that the second paragraph loses the register because it slips into the second person singular with an audience that requires formal address, and can teach the formal register for an hour. The tutor cannot write the replacement paragraph. The tutor can mark that a conclusion asserts an opinion with no supporting example, and can drill opinion-with-evidence structures using three unrelated prompts. The tutor cannot supply the example. The student writes every word, every time, and improves faster that way because the correction has to pass through their own hands to become a habit.

The tool that makes this work is an error log built from the student's own recurring mistakes, not from a generic grammar syllabus. After three marked tasks, almost every student has a short, stable list: ser and estar confused in descriptions of states, preterite used where the imperfect is needed for background, agreement lost on adjectives once a sentence runs long, por and para swapped under time pressure, the subjunctive missing after expressions of doubt, and one or two false friends that keep reappearing. That list is the curriculum. Working through a textbook chapter on the subjunctive when the student's real leak is adjective agreement spends an hour buying nothing.

The same logic applies to the oral. Memorised sentences are brittle: twelve rehearsed lines give a student twelve lines and nothing for the follow-up questions. Rehearsed structures are flexible. A student who can reliably build a comparison, a hypothesis, a cause-and-effect chain, a concession and an opinion-with-evidence can assemble a response to a stimulus they have never seen, which is the actual test. We ask tutors to drill five structures across unrelated images rather than script one answer, and to record short practices so the student hears their own filler words. A home tutor for Spanish B Mumbai parents book for the oral should be running that loop by the third session.

  • A tutor teaches and marks; the student writes every part of a submission
  • Feedback names the register or structure problem, never supplies the text
  • An error log from the student's own scripts replaces generic grammar drills
  • Common leaks: ser and estar, preterite and imperfect, agreement, por and para
  • Drill five flexible structures instead of scripting one memorised answer

What progress looks like at four weeks, one term and one exam cycle

At four weeks, do not expect a grade to move. Expect the error log to exist and to be short, expect the student to be able to say what text type a prompt is asking for and who the audience is before writing, and expect two or three marked tasks in the folder with comments specific enough that you can read them and understand what changed. If after a month there is no written work with corrections on it, something is wrong with the arrangement rather than with the student.

At one term, the measurable changes are usually these. Written tasks open in the right register and stay there. The student plans before writing instead of starting on the first sentence. Recurring errors from the first log have thinned, replaced by a newer and more advanced set, which is what improvement actually looks like. In the oral, the student can talk about an unseen image for the full presentation without running out, and can take a follow-up question that goes somewhere they did not prepare for. Fluency in the ordinary sense improves more slowly than any of this, because it is a function of hours of exposure.

Across a full exam cycle, the gains compound where the practice was deliberate and stall where it was passive. The students who move most are the ones who wrote one task a week and had it marked, kept the log current, and recorded themselves speaking even when they hated listening back. The honest limit is that a tutor controls the quality of the hour and the feedback, and not the hours between sessions, the student's sleep, the school's internal dates or how a particular examiner reads a borderline script.

So IB Gram does not guarantee grades, and no honest tutor will either. What a verified Spanish B tutor in Mumbai can be held to is specific and checkable: showing up, marking against the criteria, keeping the error log current, telling you when the student has not done the work, and saying plainly if a different tutor would suit better. If you want a number promised in advance, we are the wrong platform.

  • Four weeks: an error log exists and marked tasks are in the folder
  • One term: register holds, planning happens, the old errors thin out
  • Newer and harder mistakes replacing old ones is real progress
  • Fluency grows with exposure hours, slower than technique improves
  • A tutor owns the hour and the feedback, not the result

Starting Spanish B home tuition in Mumbai: what to prepare

Three things make the first session useful instead of introductory. The last two marked written tasks with the teacher's comments, however bruising. The school's internal calendar for the oral and for report dates, which your DP coordinator will have. And one sentence from the student about what they find hardest, in their own words, because a student who says 'I can write but I freeze when he asks me something I did not expect' has just handed the tutor the plan.

The first session should be a diagnosis, not a lecture. Expect roughly half of it in Spanish, including an unseen image described cold so the tutor can hear where speech breaks down under mild pressure. Expect a short piece of writing done in the session rather than at home, because the tutor needs to see what the student produces without help. Expect the hour to end with two or three named priorities and a schedule for marked work, not with a package of forty sessions.

On cost, we will not print a price list, because the number depends on things that genuinely vary: level, how scarce the subject is in your zone, how far the tutor travels, session length and how many sessions a week you want. Spanish B sits at the scarcer end in Mumbai, which affects it more than board or level does. Ask any tutor to confirm the rate, the session length and the cancellation rule in writing before the second session, and ask whether marking written work between sessions is included.

If a match is not working, say so early. One session is too soon to judge and a full term is too long to endure. After two or three sessions a parent usually knows whether the hour is structured, whether the student speaks for a reasonable share of it, and whether the feedback is specific. Tell us and we will arrange someone else, with the error log and the marked scripts handed over so the new tutor does not start from zero.

  • Bring the last two marked tasks and the school's internal oral dates
  • The first session diagnoses writing and unscripted speaking, cold
  • Fees depend on level, zone scarcity, travel and session length
  • Confirm rate, session length and cancellation terms in writing early
  • Ask for a replacement after two or three sessions, not after a term
FAQs

Mumbai tutoring — questions parents ask

Can a Spanish B tutor travel to our building in Khar West for a weekday evening slot?+

Usually yes in Khar West, because the Western Suburbs hold the most Spanish B tutors in the city. The practical limits are the time and the direction. A 6.30pm or 7pm start means the tutor is crossing the Western Express Highway or the Link Road in peak traffic, so we match along the Western Line where we can: Khar, Santacruz, Bandra and Juhu rather than someone coming up from Colaba. Give us two possible start times and a weekend alternative and the slot fills faster. Please also tell us if your society needs a visitor pass arranged in advance.

Do we need a parent at home, and what study space does a home tuition session need?+

Someone over eighteen should be in the flat, and the session should happen in a shared room rather than a bedroom. Beyond that, Spanish B needs less than most subjects: a table, two chairs, the student's folder and textbook, and a room quiet enough to record a two-minute speaking practice without the television behind it. Speaking work is the reason the door stays open rather than closed, and it is also the reason a dining table beats a study desk in a corner. Wifi matters only if the tutor is playing audio from a phone or laptop.

My daughter can speak Spanish but freezes in the individual oral. Can that be fixed in a term?+

Yes, and freezing is usually a preparation problem rather than a language problem. Students who memorise answers have nothing left the moment a follow-up question goes somewhere unscripted, and the freeze is the gap between the script running out and improvisation starting. The work is to replace scripts with structures: comparison, hypothesis, cause and effect, concession, and opinion supported by an example. Drill those five across images she has never seen, record each attempt, and the panic drops because she always has a next move. Six short practices across a term do more than a weekend of rehearsal.

Can the tutor help with the Paper 1 written task without writing it?+

Yes, and that distinction is the whole job. A tutor may teach text types and register, mark a draft against the published criteria, question a weak paragraph until the student sees the problem, and drill the structures the student keeps getting wrong. A tutor may not write, redraft, translate or dictate any part of what your child submits. If a tutor offers to tidy up a submission, end the arrangement. The practical version is that the student writes in the session, the tutor marks it, and the student rewrites it themselves afterwards.

Our school uses materials from Spain but the listening practice sounds Latin American. Is that a problem?+

No, and it is worth saying clearly that peninsular and Latin American Spanish are equally legitimate. The Spanish-speaking world runs across Spain, Mexico, the countries of Central and South America and the Caribbean, with real differences in pronunciation, vocabulary and how the second person is used. A student may be taught any of these varieties and none of them is a deficient version of another. What examinations reward is recognising variation and being consistent within one register. A good tutor builds exposure across varieties and stops a student being thrown by an accent they have not heard before.

What do IB tuition fees in Mumbai depend on for a subject like Spanish B?+

Level, subject scarcity, travel distance, session length and how many sessions a week you book, with scarcity mattering most here. Spanish B has far fewer experienced Diploma teachers in Mumbai than Mathematics or Economics, so a tutor who has genuinely taught both years of the course prices differently from a conversational Spanish teacher. Travel is the second factor: a tutor giving up ninety minutes of road time around your hour in Powai or Thane reflects that. We do not publish a rate card. Ask your shortlisted tutor to confirm the figure and whether marking between sessions is included.

Is an IB online tutor in Mumbai as good as home classes for the oral?+

For the oral specifically, home classes have a small real edge, because a student sitting across a table cannot hide behind a screen and the tutor catches hesitation as it happens. Online is still a strong option and for some families the better one: it removes travel, widens the pool of experienced Spanish B teachers well past your zone, and makes a second weekly session realistic. The compromise most of our families reach is hybrid, with one home visit for speaking and marked writing plus a shorter online session for review.

There has been no visible progress after a month. What should we do?+

Ask for the evidence before you change tutors, because a month is too early for a grade to move but not too early for process to be visible. There should be two or three marked written tasks, an error log of recurring mistakes drawn from the student's own work, and a short list of named priorities. If all of that exists, the arrangement is working and the grade follows later. If the folder is empty and sessions have been conversation practice, that is a real problem and we will move you to a different tutor with the diagnosis carried over.

Our son is in DP2 in Powai and his oral is a few weeks away. Is it too late to start?+

Not too late, but the plan has to change shape. With a few weeks the work is narrow: drill four or five flexible structures, practise analytical description on unseen images, and run short recorded attempts with follow-up questions every session. Nobody should be rewriting his grammar foundations now. Powai has no station of its own, so tutors reach Hiranandani Gardens by road from Andheri East, Kanjurmarg or Ghatkopar on the JVLR or the SCLR, which affects which evening slots are actually available. Tell us the deadline and we will prioritise availability over everything else.

What happens if the tutor is not working out after a few sessions?+

Tell us and we arrange a replacement, and you do not need to justify it beyond a sentence. The useful signals after two or three sessions are whether the hour has a structure, whether the student is speaking for a reasonable share of it, and whether written work comes back with comments that name a fix. If any of those is missing, the match is wrong rather than the student being difficult. We hand the error log and the marked scripts to the next tutor so the first weeks are not repeated.

Can anyone promise a specific grade in Spanish B?+

No, and IB Gram does not guarantee grades. A tutor controls the quality of an hour and the quality of the marking, and not the hours in between, the school's internal dates, the student's exposure to Spanish outside the house, or how an examiner reads a borderline script. Be wary of a tutor who offers a guaranteed grade, because the offer tells you they have not read the assessment criteria. What you can hold a tutor to is attendance, marking against the criteria, a current error log, and honesty when the student has not done the work.

We are in Navi Mumbai. Does the commute across the creek make this harder?+

It makes local matching more important rather than impossible. Navi Mumbai works in nodes, so we match Vashi, Nerul, Belapur, Kharghar and Panvel families to tutors inside those nodes, connected by Palm Beach Road and the Sion-Panvel Highway. The Atal Setu has genuinely shortened the island crossing, but a tutor pulled from South Mumbai for a 7pm weekday lesson rarely sustains it for a full term. Where no local Spanish B specialist is free, online is the honest answer, often with one home visit a fortnight for speaking practice and marked writing.
