IB DP Physics HL Home Tuition in Mumbai

IB DP Physics HL home tuition in Mumbai is most often bought after a set of mock results that made no sense: a student who understands the physics and still scored badly. This page is about examination technique, paper by paper, because that gap is almost always technique. Command terms, the data booklet, significant figures and reasoning written in sequence.

How IB Gram arranges IB DP Physics HL home tuition in Mumbai

The request for IB DP Physics HL home tuition in Mumbai usually arrives in the fortnight after mocks, and it usually arrives with a sentence like: he knew all of it, I do not understand what happened. So the first thing we ask for is not a topic list. It is the mock script itself, photographed, with the teacher's marks on it. The script tells us in five minutes what three conversations cannot. Blank final parts mean a timing problem. Correct numbers with no working mean a method-mark problem. Long paragraphs on questions that asked the student to state something mean a command term problem.

We also ask which paper the marks were lost on, because the three problems are different and the remedies are different. A student who loses heavily on the multiple-choice paper and scores well on the extended responses has a speed and second-guessing problem. A student who is fine on multiple choice and collapses on the longer written answers has a problem with expressing reasoning in order. A student who is even across both and still short is usually dropping units, significant figures and the easy consequential marks throughout, which is the cheapest problem to fix and the most commonly ignored.

Matching then looks for a Physics tutor in Mumbai who marks rather than explains. Those are different skills. Plenty of excellent explainers have never sat with a published markscheme and worked out why a student's correct answer scored nothing. We ask candidates to talk us through how they would mark a specific student response, and the tutors who do this well describe the marking points before they describe the physics. That is the signal we look for, and it is the one most relevant to a student whose understanding is already reasonable.

You receive two or three profiles with the levels and boards each tutor has taught and the zone they can reach on a fixed weekday evening. You speak to them before anything is booked. We will tell you if we think the student does not need a tutor at all, which happens, most often when a student needs three weeks of disciplined past-paper work under timed conditions rather than more teaching.

  • 1. Send a photograph of the marked mock script, not a topic list
  • 2. Tell us which paper the marks were lost on
  • 3. We shortlist tutors who can explain a markscheme, not just the physics
  • 4. You speak to each shortlisted tutor before booking a session
  • 5. First session is spent on the script, question by question

What the Diploma Programme Physics papers ask of a Higher Level candidate

International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) Physics is examined through written papers currently identified as Paper 1A, Paper 1B, Paper 2 and Paper 3, alongside an internally assessed scientific investigation that the student carries out in the school laboratory. We do not state durations, mark totals or the percentage each component contributes, because those are set by the subject guide your child's cohort is following, and that guide is the only document a family should trust on them. Ask the subject teacher which version applies and read the assessment outline with the student rather than relying on an older sibling's memory.

What is worth saying is what each kind of question is testing, because students who understand that stop making the same mistakes. The multiple-choice paper tests whether a student can recognise the physics quickly and discard wrong options with confidence. The data-based and structured questions test whether a student can read a stimulus, extract what matters and respond to exactly what was asked. The extended responses test whether a student can build an argument in order, where each step follows visibly from the last. The scientific investigation tests something else entirely, and it is covered on our separate page for that work.

At Higher Level the additional higher level material widens the territory without changing the technique. The questions are longer, the chains of reasoning are longer, and a student who writes conclusions without the intermediate steps loses more at Higher Level than at Standard Level, simply because there are more intermediate steps available to be credited. The whole examination rewards visible thinking, and Higher Level rewards it more.

Whatever extension, option or additional assessed material your cohort's guide specifies is the part students under-prepare, and the reason is predictable. It is taught last, often in a compressed block, usually when the class is distracted by internal assessment deadlines, and it rarely appears in the practice questions students pick for themselves. Open the guide, find what your cohort is actually assessed on in that component, and check that the student has done timed questions on it rather than only reading the notes. Home tuition is well suited to this because an unprepared block is a finite, nameable thing a tutor can work through in a defined number of sessions.

  • Papers 1A, 1B, 2 and 3 plus an internally assessed scientific investigation
  • Durations, mark totals and weightings come from the current subject guide
  • Multiple choice tests recognition speed and confident elimination
  • Structured and extended answers test reasoning written in visible order
  • Extension or option material is taught last and practised least

Command terms: state, describe, explain and justify are four different instructions

More marks are lost to command terms than to misunderstood physics, and the loss is invisible to the student because they feel they answered. State asks for a fact or a relationship with no reasoning attached, and the correct response is one clause long. A student who writes a paragraph in answer to a question beginning with state has spent four minutes earning what one sentence would have earned, and has taken that time from a later question. Describe asks what happens, in sequence, with no causes required. Explain asks why it happens, and an answer that describes without giving a cause scores nothing regardless of how fluent it is.

Justify is the one Higher Level students most often fumble. It asks for a decision or a statement plus the reasoning that supports it, usually referring back to something given in the question. An answer that restates the conclusion more confidently is not a justification. The pattern that works is: the claim, then because, then the specific evidence or principle, then why that evidence leads to the claim. Students who learn that four-part shape stop losing those marks within a fortnight, which is why this is the first thing a good tutor drills.

The calculation-adjacent terms have their own rules. Calculate expects a numerical answer with working. Determine often implies the value is reached from a graph or from data rather than from a single substitution, so a bare number with no indication of where it came from is at risk. Deduce expects a conclusion reached from given information with the logic shown. Outline wants brief points rather than prose. Compare requires both things in every statement, so a response describing one and then the other, without linking words, frequently fails to earn the comparison marks it looks like it should.

The practical drill for all of this is short and dull and works. Take a past paper, cover the answers, and for each question write only the command term and the shape the answer must take before writing any physics. One clause. Sequence, no causes. Cause required. Claim plus because plus evidence. Doing this across twenty questions in one sitting rewires how a student reads a paper, and it is an ideal use of a home session because the tutor can see the moment the student reaches for a paragraph and stop them.

  • State wants one clause, no reasoning, and nothing more
  • Describe gives the sequence; explain must give the cause
  • Justify needs claim, because, specific evidence, and the link
  • Determine usually implies reading a value from data or a graph
  • Compare requires both items inside each statement, with linking words
  • Drill: name the command term and answer shape before writing physics

Mumbai zones where a Physics home tutor can hold a weekly slot

Examination technique work is weekly, short and relentless for a stretch of months, which places a harder demand on travel than occasional topic teaching does. A tutor who can come three times in January and then misses February has not helped. So IB DP Physics HL home tuition in Mumbai is matched zone by zone with the evening peak taken seriously. In South Mumbai the distances are small and the clock is not: Colaba, Cuffe Parade, Napean Sea Road, Worli, Tardeo and Babulnath sit within a few kilometres of each other, and a tutor crossing from Worli to Colaba can still lose forty minutes at the Peddar Road and Haji Ali signals. Metro Line 3 has helped the Cuffe Parade to BKC axis and the Coastal Road has helped the western edge, but island families are still matched with island tutors.

The Eastern Suburbs are the other zone where this work settles well, and the reason is the road network rather than the rail. Chembur, Govandi, Vikhroli, Bhandup, Mulund and Wadala sit along the Central and Harbour lines with the Eastern Express Highway and the Eastern Freeway running through, and the Freeway in particular makes Wadala and Chembur reachable from the island far faster than the map implies. A Chembur student doing weekly timed papers can realistically be matched with a tutor from Wadala, Ghatkopar or Mulund, and the Monorail covers part of that stretch for a tutor who does not drive.

In the Central Suburbs the constraint is Powai, which has no station of its own and is reached by road from Andheri East, Kanjurmarg or Ghatkopar along JVLR, with the Santacruz-Chembur Link Road carrying east-west movement and Metro Line 1 linking Ghatkopar to Andheri. Powai and Chandivali families get a reliable weekly slot from a tutor already on that side; they do not get one from Bandra in March. The Western Suburbs run along the Western Line and the Western Express Highway, so Bandra West, Khar West and Santacruz West form one workable cluster, Juhu and Andheri West another, and Goregaon East, Malad, Kandivali East, Borivali and Dahisar East sit on the Metro Line 2A and Line 7 corridor.

Navi Mumbai and Thane are matched internally as a rule. Vashi, Nerul, Seawoods, Belapur, Kharghar, Airoli and Panvel connect along Palm Beach Road and the Sion-Panvel Highway, with the Trans-Harbour Line and the Atal Setu linking outward, but a tutor pulled across the creek for a weekday evening will not last a term. Thane runs west to east from the station across Pokhran Road, Majiwada, Hiranandani Estate and Ghodbunder Road, and that last stretch decides everything: twenty minutes off-peak to Kasarvadavali, close to an hour in the crawl. Parents searching for an IB tutor near me in Mumbai are, in practice, asking which specialist can hold a 7pm Tuesday for six months, and the answer is nearly always someone from inside their own zone.

  • South Mumbai matched island-side: Colaba, Worli, Napean Sea Road, Tardeo
  • Eastern Freeway keeps Chembur and Wadala within reach of the island
  • Powai and Chandivali reached by road along JVLR, never by train
  • Western Suburbs cluster along the line, not across the highway
  • Navi Mumbai and Thane matched internally so weekly slots survive
  • Weekly technique work demands a tutor who can come every single week

Mock season in Mumbai schools and what it is actually for

Most IB schools in the city run a mock examination block in the stretch before the final session, and the single most wasteful thing a family can do is treat the result as a prediction. The mock is a diagnostic instrument. Its value is almost entirely in the script, not the grade, and the script is usually handed back, glanced at and filed. Families who sit down with the marked paper and work out where each mark went get something from the exercise that the mark alone cannot tell them.

The calendar pressure is real and it clusters. Internal assessment work in Physics and the other sciences, the Extended Essay and the Theory of Knowledge (TOK) essay all land in a similar stretch of DP2, and mocks arrive either just before or just after. The consequence is that the months when examination technique most needs attention are the months when the student has the least free time. This is the argument for starting technique work early, in DP1 or the first half of DP2, when a weekly session can be absorbed. An IB home tutor in Mumbai starting in February is firefighting. Schools running the November session shift all of it, so use your own school's dates.

The households we work with sit across the city and across schools. Students at Cathedral and John Connon School in Fort, B.D. Somani International School in Cuffe Parade, Bombay International School at Babulnath and Aditya Birla World Academy in Tardeo anchor the island, where evening sessions are easiest to staff locally. American School of Bombay and Ascend International School in BKC pull students in from both the western and central sides. JBCN International School, Chembur, Witty International School, NES International School in Mulund West and Ryan Global School in Kandivali and Worli spread the same pressure across the eastern and western suburbs.

Those names are local context and carry no further meaning. IB Gram is an independent platform and is not affiliated with Cathedral and John Connon School, B.D. Somani International School, Bombay International School, Aditya Birla World Academy, American School of Bombay, JBCN International School, NES International School, Ryan Global School or any other school named on this page, and it is not affiliated with the International Baccalaureate organisation. The subject teacher sets the mock, marks it and knows the cohort. A tutor's job is to help the student read what that teacher wrote.

  • The mock script matters far more than the mock grade
  • Internal assessment, Extended Essay and TOK deadlines cluster around mock season
  • Starting technique work in DP1 beats firefighting in February
  • November-session schools run the whole sequence earlier
  • Schools named here for context only; there is no affiliation

Is home tuition better than online for examination technique?

For technique work specifically, yes, and the reason is the timer. The core activity is the student attempting a paper under genuine examination conditions while someone watches how they use the time, and that is hard to supervise through a screen. A tutor in the room sees the student spend six minutes on a question that was worth very little, sees them rewrite a diagram twice, sees them skip to the end and come back. None of that is visible on a video call, where the tutor only sees the finished script. IB DP Physics HL home tuition in Mumbai earns its premium at exactly this point in the year.

The second reason is the script itself. Marking is a physical activity: two people, one paper, a pen, the markscheme beside it, going line by line and arguing about whether a particular sentence earned the mark. Doing this at a table takes half the time it takes on a screen, and the student retains more because they are holding their own work while it is being challenged. Physics home classes Mumbai families book in the final two terms are usually built around this one activity repeated weekly.

Online still has its place and we would rather say so than oversell the home visit. An IB online tutor in Mumbai is the right answer for the theory gaps that turn up during technique work, for a student whose strongest available specialist lives three zones away, and for the weeks when travel across the city breaks down. Several families run weekly home sessions through the mock and final terms with online sessions filling the gaps, and that hybrid is a sensible default rather than a compromise.

Group classes are the mode we would steer you away from for this particular purpose. Technique faults are individual: one student rushes, another over-writes, another drops units. A class of eight cannot be taught the fix for all three at once, and the student who most needs the intervention is usually the one who says least. If cost is the constraint, fortnightly individual sessions with disciplined independent work between them do more than weekly group sessions. Ask the tutor to set the work and check it, not just to teach.

  • A tutor in the room sees how the student spends examination minutes
  • Script marking is faster and stickier with one paper on a table
  • Online covers theory gaps, distant specialists and broken travel weeks
  • Hybrid: weekly home sessions in the final terms, online between them
  • Group classes suit content delivery, not individual technique faults

How do we check a Physics tutor who will mark your child's scripts?

Identity, qualification and teaching history are checked before any profile is sent to a parent: a government photo document verified against a live conversation, the claimed degree checked against the subject being taught, and a teaching record with boards and levels stated rather than implied. At least one reference is contacted by us. For a tutor who will be marking scripts we add a specific test: we send a student response and ask the candidate to mark it and explain the decision. The useful answers talk about marking points and what the response failed to state. The weak answers talk about how the student should have understood the topic better.

Then there are checks a parent runs better than we can. After the second session, ask your child what the tutor did with their script. If the answer is that the tutor went through the right answers, that is a lesson and not script marking. If the answer is that the tutor made them justify why a particular sentence should earn a mark, that is the thing you are paying for. Ask the tutor directly which markschemes they work from and how recent they are, because an IB private tutor Mumbai families find informally may be working from memory of a syllabus that has since changed.

The honesty boundary matters here as much as anywhere, even though technique work is further from assessed coursework than the internally assessed investigation is. A tutor may teach, may mark practice work, may model an answer on a different question, and may comment on what the student wrote. A tutor may never write or dictate any part of work that will be submitted for assessment, and that includes the Physics investigation report, which belongs to the student entirely. Any tutor who offers to draft internally assessed work should be removed from the house.

One last check that costs nothing: ask what the tutor would do if the student turned out to need less help than expected. The useful answer involves reducing the frequency. A tutor who cannot imagine a student needing fewer sessions is selling sessions.

  • Photo identity, subject-matched qualification and teaching history verified first
  • Candidates mark a sample student response and explain the decision
  • References contacted by us rather than collected as testimonials
  • Ask your child whether the tutor marked the script or explained answers
  • No tutor drafts, dictates or edits work submitted for assessment

Why do Mumbai students lose marks they clearly knew the physics for?

Start with the multiple-choice paper, because this is where confident students bleed quietly. Rushing it is the standard mistake and it comes from a reasonable belief: there is no working to write, so it must be the quick paper. In practice the questions are designed so that the obvious route produces one of the wrong options, and a student moving at speed selects it and feels fine. The habits that fix it are mechanical. Read the final line of the question first so you know what is being asked. Eliminate rather than select where you can. Resist changing an answer unless you can say what was wrong with the first one. Flag the uncertain ones and come back, rather than stalling. And never leave a blank, since an unanswered question cannot earn anything.

The structured and extended-response questions lose marks for the opposite reason: too little writing rather than too much speed. Marks here are attached to steps in the reasoning, not to the final number, which is why a student with the right answer and no working can score less than a student with a wrong answer and a visible method. The practical rule is to write the relationship being used before substituting into it, to state the assumption being made when one is made, and to carry an incorrect earlier value forward rather than abandoning the question, because the later steps are usually still credited. Students who have never been told this throw away whole questions after one arithmetic slip.

The data booklet is a resource most students have never practised using. It sits beside them in the examination and they treat it as a safety net rather than a tool, which means the first time they genuinely search it is under pressure. The fix is dull and effective: do a set of past questions with the booklet and deliberately find every relationship in it rather than from memory, until the student knows which page each section is on. Knowing where something is worth as much as knowing it, and a student who flips back and forth for two minutes has lost the time they needed for the last question.

Finally, the cheap marks. Units omitted from a final answer. Significant figures that do not match the data given. A value quoted to six figures when the measurements carried two. A negative sign dropped in a vector quantity. A graph axis unlabelled. None of these involve physics and all of them cost. The habit worth building is a thirty-second check at the end of every question: does the answer have a unit, is the number of significant figures defensible, is the sign right, and is it physically plausible in size. Students who build that habit in DP1 keep it under pressure, and students who are told about it in April do not.

  • Read the final line of a multiple-choice question before the stem
  • Eliminate options rather than selecting, and never leave a blank
  • Write the relationship before substituting, and state your assumption
  • Carry a wrong value forward; later steps are usually still credited
  • Practise finding relationships in the data booklet until the pages are familiar
  • Check unit, significant figures, sign and plausibility before moving on

Marking the student's own script against the real scheme

The highest-value activity in this entire area of work is the student marking their own paper against a published markscheme, with a tutor beside them refusing to let them be generous. It is uncomfortable, which is why it rarely happens unsupervised. A student reading the scheme after writing an answer sees for the first time that the mark was for stating the direction of the force, not for calculating its size, and that realisation changes the next twenty answers in a way no amount of teaching does. IB home tuition in Mumbai built around this activity produces visible change faster than topic teaching, when the underlying understanding is already there.

What progress looks like is therefore measurable in a way that topic teaching is not. At four weeks you should see the student annotating their own answers before handing them in, writing the relationship before substituting, and finishing papers they previously left incomplete. At one term you should see consistent command term responses and a fall in dropped units and significant figure errors, which is the clearest early signal because it is purely habit. Across a full examination cycle, technique work tends to help a student who understands the physics more than one who does not, and the second case needs teaching time that no amount of script marking replaces.

The honest limits need saying plainly. IB Gram does not guarantee grades. The examination is set and marked by people outside this arrangement, against criteria we do not control, and anyone promising a specific outcome is promising something they cannot deliver. What is reasonable to expect is that a student stops losing marks for reasons unrelated to physics, and that is often a meaningful amount on its own.

On cost, IB tuition fees in Mumbai depend on the board, the level being taught, how scarce the specialism is, how far the tutor travels to your home and how long each session runs. Higher Level Physics with script marking sits at the scarcer end, because the tutors who mark well are fewer than the tutors who teach well. We do not publish a figure. If the match is not working, tell us inside three sessions with the specific problem named, and we replace the tutor and pass on what has already been covered so the student does not begin again from the mock script.

  • The student marks their own script; the tutor refuses easy marks
  • Four weeks: complete papers and the relationship written before substitution
  • One term: consistent command term shapes and far fewer unit errors
  • Technique work helps most where the underlying physics is already sound
  • Fees depend on level, scarcity, travel distance and session length

Starting Physics HL home classes in Mumbai before mock season

Bring four things to the first session. The most recent marked script, in full, including the pages the student would rather you did not see. The data booklet the student actually uses, so the tutor can check whether it has been opened. A past paper that has not been attempted, kept sealed for a timed run. And the school's examination calendar, so sessions can be planned backwards from the dates that matter rather than forwards from today.

The first session should be spent almost entirely on the marked script. Expect the tutor to go question by question and sort the losses into categories: physics not understood, command term misread, working not shown, arithmetic, units and significant figures, and time. That categorisation is the plan. A student who has lost most of their marks to the last three categories needs a very different term from one who has lost them to the first, and a tutor who starts by reteaching a topic on day one has skipped the diagnosis.

From there the rhythm is weekly and repetitive on purpose. A timed section attempted alone between sessions, marked by the student against the scheme, then reviewed together with the tutor challenging every mark the student awarded themselves. Add topic teaching only where the script shows it is needed. Families who want a home tutor for Physics Mumbai schools would recognise as rigorous should expect the sessions to feel like examination practice rather than like lessons, particularly after December.

Send us the marked script, the student's Diploma Programme year, your zone and the evenings that are genuinely free. We return two or three tutors who mark against published schemes and who can reach your home on the same weekday every week through to the examination session. You speak to them first, and if none of them is right, we will say so.

  • Bring the full marked script, including the pages nobody wants to show
  • Bring the data booklet and an unattempted past paper
  • Session one sorts every lost mark into a category
  • Weekly pattern: timed attempt alone, self-marked, then challenged together
  • Tell us the evenings that are genuinely free, not the ideal ones
FAQs

Mumbai tutoring — questions parents ask

My son says he knew the physics but his mock mark was low. What is going on?+

Nine times out of ten the script shows it immediately, so look at the script rather than the grade. The usual causes are a command term misread, so a question asking him to state something received a paragraph while a question asking him to explain received a description; working not shown, so the method marks went unawarded even where the final number was right; or time, which shows as blank final parts. Sort the lost marks into those categories before deciding what kind of help he needs. The remedy for each is completely different.

How do we practise the multiple-choice paper properly?+

Under time, in full sections, and with a review of the wrong options rather than only the right ones. The common mistake is rushing it because there is no working to write, which is exactly what the questions are designed to punish: the obvious route usually leads to one of the distractors. Train the student to read the final line of the question first, to eliminate rather than select, to flag an uncertain question and return instead of stalling, and never to leave a blank. Afterwards, make them explain why each wrong option was wrong.

What is the difference between explain and justify in a Physics question?+

Explain asks for the cause of something; justify asks you to support a claim with specific evidence. An explain answer must say why the thing happens, so a response that describes the sequence without naming a cause scores nothing however fluent it reads. A justify answer needs four parts in order: the claim, the word because, the specific evidence or principle, and the link showing why that evidence leads to the claim. Students who learn those two shapes stop losing these marks within a fortnight, which is why most tutors drill command terms before anything else.

How much do Physics HL home tuition sessions cost in Mumbai?+

What IB DP Physics HL home tuition in Mumbai costs depends on five things and we will not quote a number that ignores them: the board, the level, how scarce the specialism is, how far the tutor travels to your home and how long the session runs. Higher Level Physics with proper script marking is at the scarce end, because fewer tutors mark well than teach well. Travel genuinely matters in this city, since a tutor crossing from Andheri to Kharghar is pricing two hours of road time. Ask for a per-term figure rather than a headline hourly rate.

Will a tutor come to our building in Cuffe Parade on a weekday evening?+

Yes, provided the tutor is matched from inside South Mumbai. The island is small in kilometres and slow in minutes, so a tutor based in Colaba, Worli, Tardeo or Napean Sea Road holds a 7pm Cuffe Parade slot comfortably, while one coming down from the western suburbs will lose forty minutes at the Peddar Road and Haji Ali signals and start rescheduling by December. Metro Line 3 and the Coastal Road have changed some journeys but not the evening peak. Set up a standing visitor pass at the gate so the tutor is not held at security weekly.

Does someone need to be at home while the tutor is here?+

An adult should be in the home, though not in the room. Most families here have a parent, a grandparent or household staff present, which is the sensible arrangement for any tutor visiting a residence. Sitting in on the session tends to backfire for technique work in particular, because the student stops admitting which questions confused them, and admitting that is the entire activity. Stay nearby, leave the door open, and ask for a two-minute summary at the end. Where a building requires visitor pre-registration, arrange a standing pass for the term.

How many sessions a week does examination technique need?+

One, done properly, plus independent work between them. The pattern that works is a timed section attempted alone, self-marked against the published scheme, then reviewed with the tutor challenging every mark the student awarded themselves. Two sessions a week usually means the student has no time left to attempt anything alone, which removes the thing that actually produces improvement. Increase frequency in the weeks immediately before mocks and the final session if needed, but resist starting there. A weekly rhythm held for two terms beats an intensive month in April.

We are in Mulund and there is no quiet corner in the flat. What do others do?+

They book the building. Societies across the Eastern Suburbs, Thane and Navi Mumbai commonly have a clubhouse study room, a society library or a reading room that can be held for a fixed hour each week, and a tutor is cleared for it through the same visitor process as a flat visit. Technique work needs a surface wide enough for a question paper, a markscheme and an answer booklet side by side, which a dining table provides and a bedroom desk often does not. Where nothing is available, shift the slot to a quieter hour.

Should we start technique work in DP1 or wait until DP2?+

Start in DP1 if you can, because the habits are cheap to build early and expensive to build late. In DP1 a weekly session can be absorbed without displacing anything. In the second half of DP2 the same session competes with internal assessment deadlines, the Extended Essay, the Theory of Knowledge essay and mock preparation all at once, and something gives. The unit and significant figure habits in particular take about a term to become automatic, and a student who has them by the end of DP1 keeps them under examination pressure. Starting in February is firefighting.

The tutor is pleasant but nothing is changing. What should we do?+

Check what is happening to the scripts before you change tutor. The most common stalled pattern is a tutor who reviews the right answers rather than marking the student's actual answers against the scheme, which feels productive and changes nothing. Ask your child what they did with their last attempt. If the answer is that they went through it together and the tutor explained, say explicitly that you want the student marking their own script with the tutor challenging it. If that has already been tried for four weeks with no change, tell us and we will arrange a different match.

Can a tutor help with the Physics investigation as well as examination work?+

Many can, but it is a different skill and worth asking about separately. The internally assessed scientific investigation rewards method, uncertainty handling and honest evaluation rather than examination technique, and the experimental work itself happens in the school laboratory under a teacher's supervision rather than anywhere else. A tutor may teach the physics and the method and comment on a draft the student has written, and may never write any part of the report. If the investigation is your main concern, say so when you enquire so we match on that experience rather than on script marking.

Is online an option if no tutor in our area is free?+

Yes, and for theory gaps it works well. Reviewing a typed answer, teaching a topic the script exposed and working through calculations all transfer to a screen without much loss. What transfers badly is watching how a student uses their time during a timed attempt, since a tutor on a video call sees only the finished script. The workable compromise most families use is timed papers attempted at home under a parent's eye, with the review done online. If an in-person slot opens later in your zone, switching across is straightforward.
