IB DP French B Tutor in Mumbai

Almost every IB DP French B tutor in Mumbai is working with a student whose French exists only inside school hours. IB Gram matches verified French B specialists for home tuition across the city, or online where the right person lives too far away, and the first job is always to find out exactly what the school taught and what quietly never landed.

How does IB Gram match an IB DP French B tutor in Mumbai?

A request for an IB DP French B tutor in Mumbai almost never arrives with a clear description of the problem, because the parent cannot read the work. With Maths a father can look at a page and see that the answer is wrong. With French he sees neat handwriting, a teacher comment in French, and a grade that has slipped two bands since the Middle Years Programme (MYP). So the matching starts by converting a vague worry into a specific one, and that takes a diagnosis rather than a questionnaire.

What we ask for is narrow and concrete: the last two pieces of marked French work with the teacher's comments intact, the level the student is registered at, the list of themes the school has covered so far, and whether the individual oral has already been done. Those four things tell an experienced French B teacher more than an hour of conversation would. A student who has covered three themes and has her oral ahead of her is in a different situation from one who has covered all of them and recorded the oral badly in DP1.

The pool of people in Mumbai who have genuinely taught Diploma Programme (DP) French B is smaller than the number who advertise French tuition. A great many capable French speakers in this city teach conversational French, DELF preparation or school-syllabus French without ever having marked a Paper 1 task against the assessment criteria or prepared a student for the individual oral. The filter we apply is which components they have taught, which themes they have planned, and whether they can produce work they have marked with criteria referenced in the margin.

You receive two or three profiles rather than a directory, each with a short note on why that person suits this particular student. Then a diagnostic hour: one unseen text, one short written task under time, and a five-minute conversation in French with follow-up questions. The written diagnosis that comes out of that hour is yours whether or not you continue with the tutor, because the diagnosis is the part that is hard to get anywhere else.

  • 1. Send the last two marked French pieces and the school's theme list.
  • 2. Tell us the level and whether the individual oral has happened.
  • 3. Two or three French B profiles arrive with component and marking history.
  • 4. A diagnostic hour: unseen text, timed written task, short spoken exchange.
  • 5. You get the written diagnosis, then decide whether to continue.

What does Higher Level add to French B?

Higher Level (HL) and Standard Level (SL) French B study the same themes and sit the same three named components: a Paper 1 writing task, a Paper 2 built from listening and reading, and an individual oral. The difference that matters most is that Higher Level adds a literature element. Higher Level students read literary works in French, and in the guide currently in use the Higher Level oral is built on an extract from one of those works rather than on a visual stimulus. Confirm the detail with your school, because the IB revises its subject guides on its own schedule.

That literature element changes the nature of the subject for a lot of students. Up to that point French B is a skills course: understand this, produce that, in this register. A literary extract asks a student to say something about how a text works, in French, without the prepared vocabulary of a theme to lean on. Students who have been scraping through on reliable phrases find the literature oral exposes that quickly, because the examiner's follow-up questions go wherever the student's answer went. It is also the part of Higher Level that most rewards early work, since a text read slowly in DP1 is worth more than one skimmed in April of DP2.

French B runs across both years of the Diploma, and the two years do different jobs. DP1 builds the verb system, the themes and the habit of writing to a brief. DP2 is consolidation, timed practice and the oral. Families who treat DP1 French as the subject they can safely ignore because the sciences are harder usually pay for it twice over in DP2, when there is no spare capacity left to rebuild a tense system from scratch alongside Internal Assessment (IA) deadlines and the Extended Essay (EE).

A French B IB Diploma Programme (DP), Years 1-2 tutor Mumbai families engage should therefore be planning for two years and not for a term. One session a week through DP1, with the volume rising in DP2, beats a block of intensive work booked in a panic. An IB private tutor Mumbai parents hire for a single subject can also be the person who notices that the student is managing the language fine and losing marks on exam technique, which is a cheaper problem to solve than it looks.

  • Both levels sit Paper 1, Paper 2 and the individual oral.
  • Higher Level adds literary works studied in French.
  • The Higher Level oral uses a literary extract, not a visual stimulus.
  • DP1 builds the verb system; DP2 consolidates and times it.
  • Confirm current component structure with your school's coordinator.

Reading, listening, writing and speaking: what French B asks for

French B is organised around prescribed themes rather than around grammar chapters, and that structure is the first thing most parents misunderstand. The themes give the course its content: identities, experiences, human ingenuity, social organisation and sharing the planet are the headings under which a school chooses its own topics, texts and tasks. Two Mumbai schools can teach the same theme through completely different material. That is why the first question to a prospective tutor is not what grammar she covers but which themes the student's school has actually taught and in what order.

Paper 1 asks for one piece of writing in a specified text type, for a stated audience and purpose. Paper 2 is divided between listening and reading. The listening section uses recorded French played a limited number of times and asks for detail, not gist. The reading section uses authentic texts, which in practice means articles, interviews, blog posts, advertisements and public information material rather than graded textbook passages. The individual oral is internally assessed by the school and then moderated, and it is a conversation under follow-up questions rather than a presentation delivered from memory.

Across all four skills the recurring weakness in Mumbai French B students is not the one parents expect. Vocabulary breadth is rarely what is costing the marks. Tense control is. A student who can discuss social media fluently in the present tense and then describes last weekend in a mixture of passé composé and imparfait chosen by instinct will lose marks in every written component, because the examiner sees the inconsistency on every line. Agreement in compound tenses, pronoun placement, the conditional and the subjunctive after the constructions that require it: this is where the gap usually sits.

Register is the second one. French marks the difference between tu and vous in a way that English does not, and a formal letter that opens correctly and then slides into tu halfway down reads as carelessness. Students who learned their French from a classmate-heavy classroom often have far more practice with informal address than formal. Text-type convention is the third: knowing that a blog post, an article and a formal letter open differently, address the reader differently and close differently. None of that is vocabulary, and no amount of word-list revision fixes it.

  • Themes, not grammar chapters, organise the French B course.
  • Ask any tutor which themes the school has already taught.
  • Paper 2 listening rewards catching detail, not general understanding.
  • Tense choice between passé composé and imparfait costs more marks than vocabulary.
  • Formal register means holding vous for an entire piece of writing.

French B home tuition across the six zones of Mumbai

French B tutors are not spread evenly across Mumbai, Maharashtra, and pretending otherwise wastes a family's time. The Central Suburbs are the clearest example. Powai and Chandivali have a dense concentration of Diploma Programme families and no railway station of their own, so tutors reach them by road from Andheri East, Kanjurmarg or Ghatkopar along JVLR, and the direction of the evening traffic on JVLR decides whether that trip takes twenty minutes or close to an hour. Kurla and Ghatkopar sit on the Central Line with the Eastern Express Highway alongside and Metro Line 1 overhead, which makes them the easiest part of this zone to staff.

The Eastern Suburbs run from Chembur and Govandi up through Vikhroli and Bhandup to Mulund on the Central and Harbour lines. French B demand here is real but thinner, and the Eastern Freeway is the fact that changes the matching: a tutor living in Wadala or Chembur can reach South Mumbai faster than the map suggests, which means island-city tutors are sometimes willing to come the other way for a well-timed slot. The Santacruz-Chembur Link Road (SCLR) does the same across the city, and the Monorail connects Chembur to Wadala for tutors who do not drive.

In the Western Suburbs the pool is at its deepest. A home tutor in Khar West covers Bandra West and Santacruz West comfortably and Juhu with patience, while Andheri West, Versova and Oshiwara form their own cluster and Malad, Kandivali East, Borivali and Dahisar another, now connected by Metro Lines 2A and 7 and by Link Road. South Mumbai is dense but slow: Colaba, Cuffe Parade, Worli, Babulnath and Tardeo are served by the Western and Harbour lines, Metro Line 3 and the Coastal Road, yet a tutor crossing from Worli to Colaba can still lose forty minutes to the Peddar Road and Haji Ali signals. The Bandra-Worli Sea Link helps the Bandra run and does nothing for the last two kilometres.

Navi Mumbai is matched node to node: Vashi, Nerul, Belapur, Kharghar and Panvel, linked by Palm Beach Road and the Sion-Panvel Highway with the Harbour and Trans-Harbour lines and Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1 serving them. The Atal Setu has made the island city reachable, but a French B tutor crossing the creek every Tuesday evening rarely keeps it up for two years. Thane runs west to east from the station across Pokhran Road, Majiwada and Ghodbunder Road up to Kasarvadavali, where Ghodbunder sets the schedule, and Thane tutors generally cover Thane with occasional crossover from Mulund along the Eastern Express Highway.

  • Central Suburbs: Powai, Chandivali, Kurla and Ghatkopar, reached via JVLR.
  • Eastern Suburbs: Chembur, Govandi, Vikhroli, Bhandup and Mulund.
  • Western Suburbs: Bandra West, Khar West, Juhu, Andheri West, Borivali, Dahisar.
  • South Mumbai: Colaba, Cuffe Parade, Worli, Babulnath and Tardeo.
  • Navi Mumbai and Thane: Vashi, Nerul, Kharghar, Pokhran Road, Ghodbunder Road.

Where Mumbai students actually learn their French

Nearly all of it happens in a classroom. A Mumbai student taking French B has usually started French somewhere between Grade 6 and Grade 9, carried it through the Middle Years Programme (MYP) or IGCSE, and continued because it was the language her school timetabled. Families at Ascend International School in BKC, Utpal Shanghvi Global School in Juhu, JBCN International School in Parel, Oshiwara and Borivali, Singapore International School in Dahisar East and Thakur International School in Kandivali East are all working to the same May session, so the pressure points land in the same months across very different parts of the city.

The consequence of school being the only source of French is that the quality and continuity of that classroom matters enormously, and it is outside the family's control. A teacher who left mid-year, a cohort split across two sets, a year where the timetable put French last period on a Friday: any of these leaves a specific hole that nobody has catalogued. A student at Billabong High International School or Podar International School may be perfectly competent in everything taught before Grade 9 and shaky in everything after, and her report card will simply read as a general decline.

The calendar then compresses whatever is left. Mocks at most Mumbai IB schools fall in the early months of the calendar year, alongside the Theory of Knowledge (TOK) essay and a run of Internal Assessment (IA) deadlines. The individual oral is internally assessed, so each school fixes its own recording window, and those differ: a student at Ryan Global School in Worli, Witty International School in Chembur, Bombay Cambridge International School in Andheri East or Smt. Sulochanadevi Singhania School in Thane may record months apart. Ask your school for its window in the first term rather than discovering it in February.

The monsoon takes out evening sessions from June to September, which is exactly when DP1 French should be building its foundation. Families who agree a makeup slot with the tutor at the start of the engagement lose very little; families who negotiate one in July lose a month. IB Gram is an independent platform and is not affiliated with any of the schools named here, with the International Baccalaureate organisation, or with any French language-certification body such as the bodies that run the DELF and DALF examinations.

  • Most Mumbai French B students have no French outside the classroom.
  • A disrupted teaching year leaves gaps nobody has written down.
  • Mocks, the TOK essay and IA deadlines land in the same weeks.
  • Each school sets its own individual oral recording window.
  • Monsoon evenings cost DP1 French its foundation months.

Does a French B home tutor in Mumbai work better than online?

Home tuition is the lead service and it suits French B well, because the single most valuable thing a tutor does in the early weeks is listen to the student speak and correct in the moment. An IB DP French B tutor in Mumbai sitting across a table hears hesitation, self-correction and the exact point where the student switches to English. That is harder over a connection with a half-second delay. A home tutor also brings print material, which for a reading paper built on authentic texts is a genuine advantage over scrolling.

The honest costs of home tuition are travel and rigidity. You are paying for the tutor's time in traffic whether it appears on the invoice or not, the slot gets set by the Western Express Highway rather than by what suits your daughter, and a cancelled session is harder to replace. There is also a supply problem that no amount of goodwill fixes. Experienced French B teachers cluster in the Western Suburbs and South Mumbai, so an IB home tutor in Mumbai is easier to arrange in Bandra West than in Kharghar or Kasarvadavali, and families further out should ask about the pool before fixing their expectations.

Online is where that supply problem gets solved. An IB online tutor in Mumbai can be the experienced French B marker in Juhu working with a student in Panvel, and nobody spends ninety minutes on the Sion-Panvel Highway. Online handles listening practice particularly well, since audio plays cleanly to both sides, and it makes a short midweek session viable when a second house visit never would be. The trade is that written work has to be handled deliberately: the student writes longhand, photographs the page, and the tutor marks the image, because the written papers are handwritten and a typed document with autocorrect switched on hides the accent and agreement errors that get penalised.

Hybrid is the arrangement most French B families settle into. One longer home session for writing and correction, one short online session for listening and spoken practice, and the whole thing reviewed at four weeks. Parents who begin by typing "IB tutors near me Mumbai" into a search box tend to arrive at the same place once they see the geography. The best IB tutor in Mumbai for your child is the one who has marked this course and can get to you reliably, in that order.

  • Home tuition: live correction, print texts, no student travel after school.
  • Online: reaches scarce French B markers, strong for listening work.
  • Hybrid: one home session weekly plus a short online midweek session.
  • Written practice stays handwritten and photographed, never typed.
  • Searches like "home tutor for French B Mumbai" fit any of the three.

Checking a French B tutor: what we verify and what you should ask

Before a profile reaches you, an IB DP French B tutor in Mumbai on this platform has had government photo identification checked, the qualification they claim verified, and their French B history examined in specifics: which year groups, which level, which themes, which components. Where somebody states they have marked or moderated for an examination board, we ask what and when and we call references rather than filing uploaded letters. Fluency in French is the entry requirement, not the credential.

The questions you should ask are different from the ones we ask, and they are more useful. Ask which themes she has taught and how she would sequence them for a student who has already covered two. Ask her to mark one piece of your child's writing in front of you and explain each annotation. Ask what she would do about tense control specifically. A tutor who answers that question with a plan has taught the course. A tutor who answers it with a promise about effort has probably taught conversational French to adults, which is a respectable job and a different one.

One boundary is absolute and worth hearing from us before you hear a softer version elsewhere. A tutor may teach, model, explain and mark a draft, and may tell your daughter directly that a paragraph does not work and why. A tutor may not write, redraft or supply any part of what she submits. Not a sentence, not a corrected version she copies out, not a phrase provided for the oral to be learned as her own. If a tutor offers to clean up a piece before submission, that offer is the end of the engagement. Be wary, equally, of a tutor who promises a specific grade before meeting the student.

IB Gram is an independent platform, not affiliated with any school named on this page, with the International Baccalaureate organisation, or with any language-certification body. We do not guarantee grades. IB home tuition in Mumbai works best when a parent stays involved for the first month, reads the written diagnosis, looks at the file of marked work occasionally and asks the tutor once a month what has changed. It works least well when it is arranged in September and inspected in March.

  • Photo ID, qualifications and French B component history all verified.
  • References are telephoned, not accepted as uploaded letters.
  • Ask how she would sequence the themes the school has not yet taught.
  • A tutor marks drafts and never writes any part of a submission.
  • Be wary of a tutor who promises a specific grade before teaching.

Why does French B feel so much harder than IGCSE French did?

Because IGCSE rewarded short, accurate writing on predictable topics, and French B asks for sustained writing in a specified text type, for a named audience, about themes the student cannot fully anticipate. A student who was comfortable at IGCSE and finds DP1 steep has usually not got worse at French. She has met a different task. Parents booking an IB DP French B tutor in Mumbai in the second term of DP1 are almost always describing this exact drop.

The second reason is that gaps compound invisibly in a language the student never hears. A Hindi B student in this city generally arrives with the language in her ear and gaps in her script, because conversation at home keeps correcting her without anybody intending to. A French B student has the opposite profile and no correcting environment at all. If she half-learned the agreement rules for compound tenses in Grade 8 and nothing in her week ever contradicts the half-learned version, she will carry it into DP2 intact. Nobody is at fault. There is simply no feedback loop outside the classroom, and three years of that produces a very specific set of fossilised errors that look random until somebody sorts them.

This is why vocabulary breadth is rarely the real problem, however much the student believes it is. A student with wide vocabulary and unreliable verb morphology typically scores below a student with a narrower range and clean tense control, because the examiner meets the broken verb in every sentence and the missing word in only one. The same goes for register: using vous consistently costs nothing to learn and is worth more than twenty new nouns. Students resist this because learning words feels like progress and drilling the imparfait does not.

So what a good tutor diagnoses first is the verb system, in order: present and perfect accuracy, then the passé composé and imparfait distinction, then the conditional and the subjunctive where the course needs them, then agreement and pronoun placement. Second is text-type awareness: give the student three prompts and see whether she can name the conventions before writing. Third is listening at genuine speed, because a student who copes with a teacher's careful classroom French can be lost by an authentic recording. Vocabulary comes fourth, and it comes topic by topic through the themes rather than as a list. A diagnosis in that order produces a plan. A diagnosis that starts with a vocabulary test produces a word list and no change.

  • IGCSE rewarded short accurate pieces; French B wants sustained text types.
  • With no French outside class, half-learned rules are never corrected.
  • Wide vocabulary with weak verb morphology scores below the reverse.
  • Diagnose the verb system first, then text types, then listening speed.
  • Vocabulary is built through the themes, not from a standalone list.
  • Learning words feels like progress; drilling tenses actually is.

What changes at four weeks, one term and one exam cycle

At four weeks you should have a diagnosis you can read and a short list of the student's own fossilised errors, written down and revisited every session. You should not have a grade change, and a tutor who reports one at four weeks is marking generously. What you should see is the student catching her own errors mid-sentence, which is the first real sign that something has moved from knowledge into habit.

One term in, the pattern is predictable. Tense accuracy improves first and fastest, because it responds directly to focused correction and the student notices the improvement herself. Text-type writing improves next, once she has produced enough full-length pieces under time that the opening and closing conventions stop needing thought. Listening is the slow one for a French B student in Mumbai, for the obvious reason: unless she is actually listening to French between sessions, one hour a week of audio cannot build the stamina the paper requires. Speaking tracks listening, roughly.

Over a full exam cycle, honest tutoring moves the floor more than it moves the ceiling. It takes away the marks lost to the wrong text type, the formal letter that drifted into tu, the compound-tense agreement errors repeated eleven times in one page, the listening question missed because she was still writing the previous answer. Those are substantial marks and they are recoverable. What it will not do is turn one hour a week into the three years of exposure a student in Lyon or Dakar got for free. We do not guarantee grades, and no tutor who has actually taught this course will offer to.

If the match is wrong, we replace the tutor and we ask the outgoing one for a handover note, so the next person starts from the diagnosis instead of repeating it. Raise it early. The signs are a student who cannot say what the last session covered, a session where the tutor spoke more French than the student did, and a file with no marked writing in it. A French B tutor who is excellent at exam technique for a DP2 student can be the wrong choice for a DP1 student who needs her verb system rebuilt, and the reverse holds just as often.

  • Four weeks: a written diagnosis and a live list of recurring errors.
  • One term: tenses improve first, text types next, listening slowest.
  • Listening only improves if French is heard between sessions.
  • A replacement tutor receives a handover note, not a blank start.
  • Warning sign: the tutor speaking more French than the student does.

Booking French B home classes in Mumbai: the first session

French B home classes Mumbai families book usually begin with a diagnostic hour rather than teaching, and the more material you can put on the table beforehand the more that hour is worth. The last two marked pieces of writing. The school's theme list, even if it is only a photograph of a whiteboard. Any mock or internal exam paper with the marks shown. And the student's own account of what she finds hardest, which in French is often a single specific thing she has been quietly avoiding since Grade 8.

Expect the tutor to spend the hour making the student work rather than explaining the course to you. An unseen authentic text read aloud and discussed. A short written task set under time and marked in front of her. A few minutes of conversation with real follow-up questions, not scripted ones. If the tutor fills the hour describing the assessment structure to the parent, you have learned what you needed to know about the tutor, which is itself a useful outcome for an hour.

Set the room up properly once and stop thinking about it. A table, not a bed. A notebook kept only for recurring errors and useful phrases, which becomes the single most valuable object in the engagement by DP2. Headphones for listening work. And if the tutor is coming into a building with a visitor-pass system, arrange a standing weekly entry with the society office rather than calling the gate at twenty to seven every Tuesday while the tutor waits outside in the rain.

After the first month the rhythm should be obvious: a weekly home session, a short online session if geography makes a second visit unrealistic, a growing file of marked writing you can open whenever you like, and a four-week review where you and the tutor agree out loud on what has changed. Whatever IB tuition fees in Mumbai come to for your match, that review is the moment you find out whether the arrangement is earning its place in the week.

  • Bring the last two marked pieces and the school's theme list.
  • Expect a diagnostic hour, not an explanation of the syllabus.
  • Keep one notebook only for fossilised errors and useful phrases.
  • Arrange a standing society gate pass before the first session.
  • Agree a four-week review date at the time of booking.
FAQs

Mumbai tutoring — questions parents ask

What will an IB DP French B tutor in Mumbai cover in the first session?+

A diagnosis, not a lesson. An IB DP French B tutor in Mumbai should spend the first hour finding out where the student actually is: an unseen authentic text read and discussed, a short written task set under time and marked while she watches, and a few minutes of conversation with genuine follow-up questions. That produces a written note identifying the limiting factor, which in French B is usually the verb system, text-type convention or listening speed rather than vocabulary. You should receive that note. Teaching starts in session two, built on what the first hour found rather than on a generic scheme of work.

My son got a strong IGCSE French grade. Why is DP1 French B going badly?+

Because the task changed, not because he got worse. IGCSE rewarded shorter, accurate writing on predictable topics. French B asks for sustained writing in a specified text type, for a stated audience, across themes the school chooses its own material for, plus listening to authentic recordings at real speed. A student who was comfortable before meets three new demands at once: length, register and convention. This is the single most common reason a family contacts us in the second term of DP1, and it is usually fixable within a term once the diagnosis is specific.

Is vocabulary the main thing he needs to work on?+

Almost never, although it is what students want to work on because it feels like progress. A wide vocabulary sitting on unreliable verb morphology scores below a narrower vocabulary with clean tense control, because the examiner meets the broken verb in every sentence and the missing word only once. The usual priorities are present and perfect accuracy, the choice between passé composé and imparfait, agreement in compound tenses, pronoun placement, and holding vous through a formal piece. Vocabulary then grows through the themes the school is teaching, which is more durable than a list learned in isolation.

What does the Higher Level literature part of French B involve?+

Higher Level French B includes the study of literary works in French, and in the guide currently in use the Higher Level individual oral is built on an extract from one of those works instead of a visual stimulus. Check the detail with your school's Diploma Programme coordinator, since guides are revised on the IB's own cycle. Practically, it means a student has to talk about how a text works, in French, without the prepared vocabulary of a theme to fall back on. It rewards reading slowly in DP1 far more than it rewards revision in DP2.

Can a French tutor travel to our home in Chembur on a weekday evening?+

Usually yes, with the caveat that the French B pool in the Eastern Suburbs is thinner than in the Western Suburbs. A tutor based in Chembur, Wadala, Govandi or Mulund reaches Chembur easily, and the Eastern Freeway and the Santacruz-Chembur Link Road bring in tutors from further out when the slot is well timed. What breaks is a Bandra or Juhu tutor driving to Chembur at seven on a weekday across the city. Tell us the slot you want before matching, because a seven o'clock weekday and a Saturday morning produce genuinely different shortlists.

Do we provide the French textbook, or does the home tutor bring material?+

The tutor brings material, and you should expect that to include more than a textbook. For a reading paper built on authentic texts, a good French B tutor arrives with printed articles, interviews, advertisements and public information material, plus audio for listening work. What the household provides is the school's own resources: the theme list, any set texts at Higher Level, past internal papers and the marked work. If a tutor arrives with nothing but a coursebook and works through it chapter by chapter, that is a reasonable reason to ask what the plan actually is.

What do IB tuition fees in Mumbai depend on for French B?+

Board, level, scarcity, travel and session length. French B sits at the scarcer end in this city, because the number of people who have taught the Diploma Programme course and marked against its criteria is much smaller than the number who teach French, so the rate reflects supply rather than difficulty. Higher Level costs more than Standard Level. Travel matters a great deal here: a tutor coming from Juhu to Panvel is pricing two hours of road. Session length and frequency do the rest. We will not publish a figure, because any number printed here would mislead somebody.

Should we look for a native French speaker?+

It helps for listening and speaking and it is not the thing that decides the match. French is spoken as a first language across France, Belgium, Switzerland, Quebec, Senegal, Côte d'Ivoire, Haiti and many other places, and those varieties differ in accent, idiom and usage. Language acquisition courses tend to draw their material from a range of French-speaking communities rather than one country, so exposure to more than one variety is useful preparation. What matters more is whether the tutor has taught this course, planned its themes and marked its written tasks. An experienced non-native teacher who has done all three usually beats a first-language speaker who has not.

How much French should he be doing between sessions?+

Less writing than you expect and far more listening. A realistic week is one timed written piece, fifteen minutes of French audio or video most days, and five minutes revisiting his own error list. The listening is the part that cannot be delegated to the tutor, because stamina for an authentic recording is built by hours of exposure and there is no other source of it in Mumbai. News bulletins, podcasts and series with French subtitles all count. One long weekend session of grammar exercises does less than twenty minutes a day of hearing the language used at normal speed.

What if the tutor is not the right fit after a few weeks?+

Tell us and we rematch, and we ask the outgoing tutor for a handover note so the next person starts from the diagnosis rather than repeating it. You do not need to build a case. One sentence about what is not landing is enough. The usual cause is a mismatch of stage rather than ability: a tutor who is strong on DP2 exam technique can be wrong for a DP1 student who needs her verb system rebuilt from the ground. Raise it in week three. A term spent being polite about a poor fit is the most expensive mistake available here.

How does a tutor get into our society building for a regular evening slot?+

Arrange a standing weekly entry with the society office once, at the start, rather than treating each visit as a fresh visitor. Most Mumbai complexes will add a tutor to a recurring list for a fixed day and time if a resident requests it in writing, and some ask for an identity document on file. Do this before session one. The alternative is a tutor standing at the gate at twenty to seven while somebody looks for your flat number, which costs ten minutes of a paid hour every week and is entirely avoidable with one email.

Can a tutor correct my daughter's French assignment before she submits it?+

A tutor may teach and mark, and may never write. The distinction is practical: she can explain why a paragraph does not work, show a model of the text type, mark a draft against the criteria and tell your daughter plainly that her tense choices are inconsistent. She cannot supply corrected sentences to be copied out, rewrite a section, or hand over phrasing for the oral to be memorised and presented as your daughter's own. If any tutor offers to polish a submission before it goes in, stop the engagement there and tell us.
