IB DP English B Home Tutor in Mumbai

An IB DP English B home tutor in Mumbai is most often hired for two pieces of work: the assessed writing task, where picking the right text type matters as much as the language, and the internally assessed individual oral. This page covers both, and the hard boundary on what a tutor may and may not do with either.

How do you find an IB DP English B home tutor in Mumbai?

Decide first which of the two assessed strands you are actually hiring for, because the tutors are not interchangeable. If the problem is the writing task, you want someone who sets text types for practice and marks them against the published criteria, and who can explain in a sentence what makes a speech different from an article. If the problem is the individual oral, you want someone who has prepared students for a recorded assessment and who will make your child talk for longer than is comfortable, week after week. Some tutors do both well. Many are clearly better at one.

Then give us the practical constraints. For oral work in particular the slot matters: a student who is rehearsing speaking needs a time when the flat is reasonably quiet and she is not exhausted, which in many Mumbai households rules out the hour right after she gets home. Families in Navi Mumbai and Thane often find a weekend morning is the better main session, with a short midweek call for feedback on written work. Tell us that at the start and the shortlist reflects it.

We shortlist two or three tutors with a reason attached to each, you speak to them yourself, and you try one. If the trial session does not produce something concrete, a marked piece of writing with patterns identified or a recorded practice turn with a clear critique, that is useful information about the tutor.

One rule applies to every match and is worth stating before you hire anyone. A home tutor may teach the skills, rehearse, question and mark a draft against the criteria. A home tutor may never write, redraft, script or supply any part of what the student hands in or says under assessment conditions.

  • 1. Say whether the writing task, the oral, or both are the problem.
  • 2. Give the slots when the flat is quiet enough for speaking practice.
  • 3. We shortlist two or three tutors who have prepared students for the oral.
  • 4. Trial session should end with marked work or a critiqued practice turn.
  • 5. Confirm the tutor understands she marks drafts and writes nothing.

Where the writing task and the individual oral sit in English B

English B is the language acquisition course in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP), taken at Standard Level (SL) or Higher Level (HL) over DP1 and DP2. Two of its assessed pieces are productive rather than receptive: the student has to make something in English rather than understand something written or spoken by somebody else. Those are the written task and the individual oral, and between them they carry most of the work a home tutor will be doing with your child.

The written task asks for a piece of text aimed at a stated audience, for a stated purpose, in a text type chosen from a set of options. The individual oral is internally assessed, recorded by the school and marked by the teacher. At Standard Level it begins from a visual stimulus connected to one of the course themes; the student speaks about the stimulus and then holds a conversation about it and about the theme behind it. At Higher Level the oral is built on a literary work studied during the course instead. The themes that frame both pieces are the familiar ones: identities, experiences, human ingenuity, social organisation, sharing the planet.

The practical consequence of the theme structure is that preparation is cumulative rather than last-minute. A student who has worked through the themes with material and opinions of her own can speak about a stimulus she has never seen, because she is not inventing content under pressure; she is selecting from content she already has. A student who has revised vocabulary lists has nothing to select from and improvises, which is where turns run dry after ninety seconds.

We log a request as an English B IB Diploma Programme (DP), Years 1-2 tutor Mumbai request with the level attached, since the Standard Level and Higher Level oral preparations diverge completely. For exactly how the components are structured in the year your child sits them, including anything that looks like a timing, a length or a weighting, ask your school's DP coordinator and read the current subject guide. The IB revises these on its own schedule and no tutoring page should be your source.

  • Both assessed pieces are productive: the student makes something in English
  • The written task names an audience, a purpose and a text type
  • Standard Level orals start from a visual stimulus linked to a theme
  • Higher Level orals are built on a literary work studied in the course
  • Theme preparation is cumulative and cannot be done in the final month

Choosing the right text type: a blog is not a formal letter

The first thing an IB DP English B home tutor in Mumbai usually has to fix is text type, because the most expensive mistake in the written task is answering well in the wrong form. A student reads a prompt, recognises the topic, and writes the kind of composition she has written since Year 8. The content may be sensible and the English may be clean, and the marks still go because a task asking for a speech received an essay. Text type is not decoration on top of the writing. It is part of what is being assessed, and it is the quickest thing a home tutor can fix.

Take four forms that students treat as interchangeable and are not. A speech addresses people who are present: it needs an opening that acknowledges them, signposting so that listeners can follow without re-reading, rhetorical structure, and an ending designed to be heard rather than skimmed. A formal letter states its business early, maintains distance, and makes a specific request or recommendation before it closes. A blog post can be personal, can speak directly to a reader, can use short paragraphs and a conversational register, and usually carries a voice. An article is written for a publication and its readers: it needs a headline, an opening that earns attention, attributed examples, and a neutral or clearly signalled stance. Write the right content in the wrong one of those four and you have lost marks that had nothing to do with your English.

The discipline that prevents this is mechanical and takes about two minutes. Before writing, name the audience, name the purpose, and name the text type, then write the three words at the top of the page. Then choose the opening those three require together. A student who does that consistently stops producing general essays in response to specific tasks, and the improvement usually shows within three or four marked pieces, which is why writing is the component that moves first.

Register follows from the same three words. The vocabulary, the sentence length, how much knowledge is assumed, how direct a request can be: all of it changes between a text for classmates and a text for a municipal official. A good English B tutor in Mumbai will not teach register as a rule to memorise but will set the same content as two different text types for two different audiences and let the student see the difference on her own page.

Accuracy work belongs here too, and it should be individual. The useful method is to collect three or four pieces of the student's own writing, mark what actually recurs, and work on the two patterns that cost most. That might be tense sequence slipping in longer sentences, article use in complex noun phrases, or one preposition that keeps going astray. General grammar drills spend most of their time on structures the student already handles correctly, which is why they feel productive and change little.

  • Right content in the wrong text type loses marks regardless of the English
  • A speech signposts; a letter states its business; a blog carries a voice
  • Write audience, purpose and text type at the top before the first line
  • Set the same content twice as two text types to teach register
  • Target two recurring error patterns from her own work, not general grammar

Home tuition for English B across the six Mumbai zones

A request for an IB DP English B home tutor in Mumbai is matched inside one zone, and South Mumbai, which sends more of these requests than its size suggests, is matched strictly within the island. Tutors work across Colaba, Cuffe Parade, Churchgate, Marine Lines, Fort, Walkeshwar, Napean Sea Road, Breach Candy, Peddar Road, Tardeo, Worli, Lower Parel and Parel, using the Western Line into Churchgate, the Harbour Line towards Dockyard Road, Metro Line 3 running from Cuffe Parade towards BKC, the Sea Link and the Coastal Road. The distances look trivial on a map and the evening signals at Peddar Road and Haji Ali decide the actual timetable, so a tutor from Worli for a Colaba 6.30pm slot is a weekly gamble and a tutor from Breach Candy is not.

Navi Mumbai is the other zone where English B home classes Mumbai families book tend to concentrate, and the node structure makes it the easiest part of the region to schedule in. Vashi, Kopar Khairane, Sanpada, Nerul, Seawoods, Belapur, Kharghar, Airoli, Ulwe and Panvel are short runs from each other along Palm Beach Road and the Sion-Panvel Highway, with the Harbour and Trans-Harbour lines and Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1 from Belapur to Pendhar filling the gaps. The Atal Setu has made weekend sessions from the island city realistic and has not made a weekday 6pm start across the harbour realistic, which is worth accepting before week five rather than after it.

In the Western Suburbs tutors cover Bandra West, Khar West, Santacruz West, Vile Parle, Juhu, Andheri West, Andheri East, Jogeshwari, Goregaon East, Malad West, Kandivali East, Borivali and Dahisar East along the Western Line, the Western Express Highway and Link Road, with Metro Line 1 at Andheri and Metro Lines 2A and 7 covering the northern stretch. The Central Suburbs run through Kurla, Ghatkopar East, Vikhroli, Kanjurmarg, Bhandup and Mulund West on the Central Line and the Eastern Express Highway, with Powai and Chandivali reached by road off JVLR because they have no station.

The Eastern Suburbs cover Chembur, Govandi, Mankhurd, Wadala and Bhandup, where the Eastern Freeway and the Santacruz-Chembur Link Road shorten journeys that used to take an hour. Thane spreads east from the station across Pokhran Road, Vartak Nagar, Majiwada, Kolshet, Hiranandani Estate and the Ghodbunder Road corridor to Kasarvadavali, and Ghodbunder Road remains the single biggest scheduling variable in the region. A family searching IB tutors near me Mumbai is reasoning the way we match: for a subject where a tired tutor arriving late ruins an oral rehearsal, the nearer specialist usually beats the better-known one.

When the oral gets recorded in the Mumbai school year

The individual oral is recorded at school during DP2, on dates the department sets, and those dates are the ones your household should be planning around. They are usually well before the external examination season, and they tend to land in the same months as science Internal Assessment (IA) drafts, the Theory of Knowledge (TOK) essay and the final Extended Essay (EE) deadline. A student who has done no sustained speaking practice until the term of the recording is preparing for an assessment at the worst possible moment in the two years.

Families at Dhirubhai Ambani International School and the American School of Bombay in BKC, at Ascend International School, at Ecole Mondiale World School, Jamnabai Narsee International School and Utpal Shanghvi Global School in Juhu, at Oberoi International School off JVLR, at B.D. Somani International School in Cuffe Parade, at Cathedral and John Connon School in Fort, at Bombay International School near Babulnath, at Aditya Birla World Academy in Tardeo, at Hiranandani Foundation School in Powai, at NES International School in Mulund West, at the JBCN International School campuses in Parel, Borivali, Oshiwara and Chembur, at Singapore International School in Dahisar East, at Bombay Cambridge International School in Andheri East, at Thakur International School in Kandivali East or at D.Y. Patil International School in Nerul all work to a similar shape. IB Gram is an independent platform and is not affiliated with any of those schools or with the International Baccalaureate organisation; they are named here only because their calendars are the ones Mumbai parents organise their weeks around.

The sensible plan runs backwards from the recording date. Six to eight weeks before, practice turns should be happening weekly with a different stimulus every time. Three to four months before, the themes should be getting substantive content: examples, opinions, a few facts the student can actually use. In DP1 the work is quieter and more valuable than it looks, which is simply speaking at length regularly on whatever the class is covering so that holding the floor stops feeling unusual.

One Mumbai-specific wrinkle is worth planning for. School internal deadlines for recordings sometimes move when a department has to fit a whole cohort into a recording window, and families hear about the change late. Ask for the window early in DP2, ask again in the term it falls, and give the tutor the date as soon as you have it so the last six weeks of preparation are not compressed into three. An IB tutor Mumbai parents brief with the actual school calendar plans better than one working from a general timetable.

  • The oral is recorded at school during DP2 on department-set dates
  • Those dates sit near IA, TOK and Extended Essay deadlines
  • Six to eight weeks out: weekly practice turns on fresh stimuli
  • Three to four months out: build real content under each theme
  • Ask for the recording window early and tell the tutor immediately

Why most English B oral practice happens as home tuition in Mumbai

Speaking practice works better in a room, and that is the main argument for hiring an IB DP English B home tutor in Mumbai rather than working entirely online. A student rehearsing an oral has to get used to being looked at while she thinks, to filling a silence rather than waiting for a prompt, and to carrying on when she has used her best point too early. All of those are easier to simulate in person. IB home tuition in Mumbai also makes a difference for students who are self-conscious about speaking, because the audience is one familiar person rather than a screen with their own face on it.

Home classes have a second, more mundane advantage for this course. The tutor sees the room the student will be working in and can fix what is wrong with it: the chair that faces the television, the corner where the lift machinery is audible, the fact that the only quiet hour in the flat is at seven in the morning. For oral rehearsal a reliably quiet forty minutes is not a nicety, and families often need someone from outside the household to point out that it does not currently exist.

The honest costs are familiar. Home tuition carries the tutor's travel, so a tutor crossing from Bandra to Chembur in the evening peak costs more than one from Chembur. Monsoon makes long journeys unreliable. And a home slot is hard to move twice, because each cancellation wastes someone's journey. An IB private tutor Mumbai families keep for two years is usually one who lives close enough that the weekly trip is unremarkable.

Online still has its place and should be used for the things it does better. Listening practice with replay and transcripts is genuinely better on a call. So is quick feedback on a typed piece of writing between sessions. And an IB online tutor in Mumbai widens the pool when the specialist who has actually prepared students for recorded orals is in Thane and you live in Colaba. The common settlement is a weekly home session for speaking and marked writing plus one short online slot midweek, shifting further towards home sessions in the two months before the recording.

  • In-person rehearsal trains filling silences and thinking while watched
  • The tutor can see and fix where in the flat practice actually happens
  • Travel is priced in and monsoon makes long evening trips fragile
  • Online is better for listening replay and quick written feedback
  • Weight the mix towards home sessions before the recording window

How do we check a home tutor before the first session in Mumbai?

Identity is verified against government photographic identification before any home visit, qualifications are confirmed, and teaching history is recorded by board, level and the components actually taught. For this page's intent we ask one extra question of every tutor: has she prepared students for an internally assessed recorded oral, and can she describe how she rehearses without producing a script. The answer to the second half tells you a great deal, because scripting is the common shortcut and it damages the student in the room.

We also verify the ordinary conditions that make a weekly home arrangement last: that the tutor is genuinely within reach of your zone, that the slot can hold for a full term, and that she will deal with you directly over rescheduling. References from earlier families are taken where they are offered and never invented where they are not.

Your own checking is the part that counts most, and the first visit is the moment for it. Ask for identification at the door. Ask which themes she has taught and how she would build material for them with your child. Ask what she does when a student dries up after ninety seconds. And state the boundary out loud, early, so that nobody is embarrassed later: she may teach, rehearse and mark drafts against the published criteria, and she may not write, redraft or supply any part of a submitted piece or script an oral. Be wary of a tutor who promises a specific grade, and treat an offer to polish a submitted text as a reason to end the arrangement rather than a favour.

The search that brings most parents here is for the best IB tutor in Mumbai, and for this subject it is the wrong question to be asking. The right one is narrower: has this person prepared students for this assessment, can she reach your flat at a time your child can still concentrate, and will she make your child speak for four minutes when your child would rather speak for one. IB Gram does not guarantee grades and no tutor matched here is permitted to offer one.

  • Government photographic identification checked before the first home visit
  • Tutors asked how they rehearse an oral without producing a script
  • Zone, slot stability and direct contactability confirmed in advance
  • State the no-writing boundary aloud in the first session
  • Be wary of anyone who promises a specific grade or offers to polish submitted work

How should a student talk about the visual stimulus instead of listing it?

Describe what the image is doing, not what is in it, and this is the first thing an IB DP English B home tutor in Mumbai should be drilling before a recording window. A student who says there are three people, a building and a flag has used forty seconds to tell the examiner something the examiner can see. A student who says the photograph is composed so that the crowd fills the frame and the official is cut off at the edge, and that this makes the event look popular rather than organised, has made a claim. The claim can then be supported, extended, and argued about, which is exactly what the rest of the turn and the conversation need.

A workable structure for the turn has four moves. First, place the image under its theme in one sentence, which is where the cumulative theme work pays off. Second, make an analytical observation about how it has been constructed: what is central, what is at the edge, what the angle or the colour or the text does, and who the image seems to be addressing. Third, say what it is arguing or assuming, including what it leaves out. Fourth, connect it outward to something real the student knows about, from her own city, her reading or her experience. Four moves, each extendable, and no two stimuli producing the same turn.

The honest difficulty is that students want to prepare by writing out one perfect response and learning it. Rehearsing without memorising is the skill a home tutor should be teaching, and the method is to vary the stimulus rather than to repeat the performance. Practise the four moves on ten unrelated images across a term, never twice on the same one, and record the turns so the student hears what a thought-out sentence sounds like against a remembered one. A memorised answer collapses the moment the first follow-up question steps outside the script, and it usually sounds memorised long before that.

The conversation phase then rewards having opinions rather than having material. A student should be able to say which of two positions she holds and why, to concede a point and keep her overall line, and to ask for a question to be repeated without losing her composure. These are all practisable at home, and the most useful thing a tutor can do is to disagree with the student deliberately and let her defend herself. That is uncomfortable in week one and ordinary by week six.

One more time, because this is the component where the pressure to cross the line is highest. A tutor may rehearse with the student, feed back on a practice turn, and mark written drafts against the criteria. A tutor may not write the oral, supply the sentences, or provide any part of what the student says or submits under assessment conditions. The academic honesty risk belongs to the student, and any help beyond coaching puts her at risk rather than ahead.

  • Say what the image is doing and arguing, not what it contains
  • Four moves: place it, analyse the construction, state the argument, connect out
  • Practise on ten different stimuli, never repeat one performance
  • Record practice turns so she hears thinking against recitation
  • The tutor rehearses and marks, and supplies no part of the assessment

What improves first, and what can a home tutor not fix?

Writing moves fastest, usually inside three or four marked pieces, because text-type conventions and the audience-and-purpose discipline are rules rather than capabilities. Expect the first visible win there. Oral confidence moves in steps and is uneven: a student can have a poor week after a good one, generally because she tried something harder. Precision in the recurring error patterns improves steadily once the patterns have been identified and named, and stalls if nobody has bothered to identify them.

At four weeks you should have a written diagnosis rather than a mark: the two or three error patterns that recur in her own writing, which text types she handles badly, and how long she can currently speak before she runs dry. At one term, expect correctly chosen text types, openings that match the audience, and practice turns that reach a reasonable length with content rather than filler. Over an exam cycle the outcome depends on her starting point, on how much English she reads and hears outside sessions, and on what DP2 is demanding of her elsewhere. We do not guarantee grades and will not predict one; her teacher has the evidence for that conversation and we do not.

Three things a home tutor genuinely cannot do. She cannot create exposure: a student who reads and listens to nothing in English between sessions improves slowly whatever happens in the room. She cannot manufacture a quiet forty minutes in a flat where none exists, though she can tell you honestly that the arrangement is not working. And she cannot write any part of the assessment, which is a limit worth being grateful for rather than frustrated by.

If a tutor is not working out, say so in a sentence and a replacement shortlist comes back without an argument. The common mismatches in this subject are specific: a tutor who corrects constantly during speaking practice so the student stops taking risks, a tutor who runs general grammar lessons instead of targeting the student's own patterns, and a tutor who treats a multilingual student as though her other languages were an obstacle rather than the asset they are. Any of those is a reason to change, and changing at week four is far cheaper than changing at month four.

  • Writing improves first, within three or four marked pieces
  • Oral confidence improves unevenly, often dipping after a harder attempt
  • Four weeks: named error patterns, weak text types, current speaking length
  • No tutor substitutes for English read and heard between sessions
  • Change tutors early if speaking practice is being corrected into silence

Booking a home tutor for English B Mumbai families keep for two years

Send four things with the enquiry. The level, Standard or Higher, because the oral preparation differs entirely. The themes the class has covered. Two pieces of the student's writing of different text types with the teacher's marks on them. And the recording window for the oral if the school has given it, or a note that you will ask for it.

The first session is a diagnostic and should produce something you can keep. The tutor sets a short written task with a named audience and purpose and sees whether the right text type arrives. She puts an unfamiliar image in front of the student and asks for a few minutes on it, then disagrees with something to see what happens. By the end you should have, in writing, the recurring error patterns, the text types that need work, how long the student can currently speak with real content, and what the next six weeks will target.

Settle the practical arrangements in the same session rather than by message later: the fixed weekly slot and a single backup day, the society gate pass or visitor registration so a standing weekly appointment does not need a phone call every week, which room the sessions will use and what has to be turned off in it, and whether a parent needs to be at home. Families who treat the slot as immovable get the benefit; families who move it whenever something comes up are usually the ones disappointed in DP2.

Finally, the sentence to repeat to every tutor you ever hire for this course. Teach her, question her, rehearse with her, mark her drafts against the criteria. Do not write, script or supply one word of what she submits. Any tutor who finds that restrictive is the wrong tutor, and should be reported to us and replaced.

  • Send level, themes covered, two marked pieces and the recording window
  • First session: a written task, an unfamiliar image, and a deliberate disagreement
  • Leave with error patterns, weak text types and a six-week target
  • Fix the slot, the gate pass and the room in session one
  • Every word submitted or spoken in assessment is the student's own
FAQs

Mumbai tutoring — questions parents ask

My son writes well but keeps losing marks on the written task. What is going wrong?+

Most often he is writing the right content in the wrong text type. A task asking for a speech, a blog post or a formal letter is asking for that form's conventions, and a well-written general essay does not satisfy it. The fix is quick and mechanical: before writing anything he names the audience, the purpose and the text type, writes those three words at the top of the page, and chooses the opening they require together. Three or four marked pieces usually settle the habit, which is why writing is the component that improves first.

Can a tutor write or script the individual oral for my daughter?+

No, and nobody should offer to. A tutor may rehearse with her, critique a practice turn, build her material under the course themes and mark written drafts against the published criteria. She may not write, script or supply any part of what your daughter says under assessment conditions or hands in. The academic honesty risk sits with the student, so a scripted oral puts her at risk rather than ahead, and it also performs badly: a memorised answer collapses at the first follow-up question that steps outside it. If any tutor offers, end the arrangement and tell us.

Can a tutor travel to Breach Candy or Napean Sea Road for an early evening home session?+

Yes, and we match within the island for it. South Mumbai distances are short and the evening signals at Peddar Road and Haji Ali are what actually set the timing, so a tutor based in Walkeshwar, Tardeo or Breach Candy holds a 6.30pm slot that a tutor coming down from the suburbs will miss roughly every third week. Metro Line 3 and the Coastal Road have helped, mainly for journeys from BKC and Worli. Tell us your preferred start time with the enquiry and the shortlist will be built around it.

How does a student practise speaking without memorising an answer?+

By varying the stimulus rather than repeating the performance. The method is to learn a structure, place the image under its theme, analyse how it is constructed, say what it argues and leaves out, then connect it to something real, and apply that structure to ten unrelated images across a term, never twice to the same one. Recording the turns helps, because the student can hear the difference between a sentence she is thinking and one she is reciting. A memorised turn sounds memorised and falls apart the moment a follow-up question arrives.

Which text types should we practise at home?+

The ones on the option list your school works from, and enough of them that no prompt is a surprise. In practice that means a blog post, a formal letter, a speech, an article, a report, a set of instructions or guidelines, an email and a diary or personal entry. Practise them in pairs with the same content written twice for different audiences, since that is what teaches register faster than any explanation. Ask the tutor to mark against the published criteria and to say explicitly which convention was missing rather than simply correcting the language.

What do IB tuition fees in Mumbai depend on for English B home tuition?+

What an IB DP English B home tutor in Mumbai charges turns on level, session length and frequency, travel, and how scarce the right tutor is in your zone. Higher Level preparation involves literary works and takes longer. Marked written work costs more to return than a conversation does. Home tuition includes the tutor's journey, so a tutor from your own node is cheaper than one crossing the city at 6pm, and a tutor who has actually prepared students for recorded orals is scarcer than a general English teacher. We publish no price list, because a figure detached from your zone and slot misleads. Ask for a range once you have names.

Does the tutor need to come to our building every week, or can some sessions be online?+

A mix is usually best and most families settle into one. The in-person session carries speaking rehearsal and the discussion of marked writing, where being in the same room matters. Short online slots handle listening practice with replay and quick feedback on a typed piece. Before the recording window, shift the balance towards sessions in your building, since what needs rehearsing by then is one person talking to another. Agree the pattern at the start rather than drifting into whichever is convenient in a given week.

My daughter speaks three languages at home. Does that hold her back in English B?+

No. Moving between Marathi, Hindi, Gujarati, Tamil or any other language and English every day makes her multilingual, which is an asset in a language acquisition course and in life. Nothing about it makes her a weaker candidate, and any tutor who treats her other languages as interference is the wrong tutor. What the course assesses is whether she can understand authentic English texts and produce English effectively for a stated audience and purpose, and those are specific skills that anyone can be taught. Which English course she takes is a placement decision for the school and your family.

How much time should we give this each week in DP2?+

One substantial home session plus short independent work most days beats three long sessions with nothing between them. The independent work is the part that moves listening and reading, and it can be twenty minutes of English listening or an article read with the question what does the writer think in mind. In the six to eight weeks before the oral recording, add one weekly practice turn on a fresh stimulus. Adding sessions without independent exposure tends to produce a student who performs well with her tutor present and freezes without her.

What if the tutor keeps correcting her mid-sentence during speaking practice?+

Raise it immediately, and change tutors if it continues. Constant correction during a practice turn teaches a student to stop taking risks with the language, which is precisely the opposite of what the oral rewards, and it usually shortens her answers rather than improving them. The sound method is to let the turn run, note the patterns, and work on two of them afterwards in a separate part of the session. Tell us in a sentence if it is happening; it is one of the three most common mismatches we see in this subject and a replacement shortlist follows quickly.

Can you tell us what grade to expect by the recording?+

No, and be wary of anyone who does. IB Gram does not guarantee grades and no tutor matched through the platform may promise a specific one. What an honest tutor can give you, after four or five sessions, is a clear description of where your child currently is: how long she can speak with real content, which text types she handles, and which error patterns recur. Your child's own teacher marks the oral and has the evidence base to discuss likely outcomes. Ask the tutor instead which component is most improvable in the time left.
