How we shortlist an IB DP English A home tutor in Thane West

A request for an IB DP English A home tutor in Thane West turns into a shortlist of two or three names, and the thing that narrows it first is not geography. It is the course. English A: Literature and English A: Language and Literature are different syllabuses with different Paper 1 demands, and a teacher who has run one cohort through the Individual Oral on one course is not automatically the right fit for the other. So the first question on the call is which of the two your child is entered for, at Higher Level (HL) or Standard Level (SL), and which works sit on their school's reading list this year.

What we will not do is send a general English graduate because they live five minutes from Lodha Splendora. The commonest complaint we hear from DP2 parents in Mumbai is that the previous tutor was articulate about literature and vague about the mark scheme, so sessions turned into book club conversations while the Paper 2 comparative essay stayed exactly as weak as it had been in DP1. Proximity is a scheduling convenience. Component knowledge is the thing you are paying for, and it is the thing a parent can test in ten minutes by asking the right three questions.

Matching also means being honest about scarcity. Mathematics and Physics tutors are thick on the ground in Thane; Diploma English A specialists are not, because fewer teachers carry the subject and the ones who know the Individual Oral well are usually already committed to two or three families. If your only free evenings are Friday and Saturday, say so at the start rather than in week three. A Tuesday and Thursday pattern opens the panel considerably, and IB home tuition in Thane West is far easier to sustain on a fixed weekday rhythm than on weekend slots that collapse the moment a cousin's wedding or a school trip lands.

Our Thane panel covers all IB and IGCSE subjects a tutor in Thane West is asked for, from Year 1 upwards, but this page is deliberately about one of them. If the enquiry you send us is really about Mathematics or Physics, say that instead and you will get a different shortlist. Mixing two subjects into one request is how families end up with a tutor who is competent at neither and apologetic about both.

  • 1. Name the course: English A: Literature or Language and Literature, HL or SL
  • 2. We filter Thane tutors by that exact course and component experience
  • 3. Two or three profiles reach you, with the DP cohorts each has taught
  • 4. A paid first session happens at your flat in Thane West
  • 5. You confirm the weekly slot, or we reopen the shortlist

Where English A sits in the IB Diploma Programme

English A is the studies in language and literature subject of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP), and almost every DP student in Mumbai takes one, because the Diploma requires a language and literature course. Two courses carry the name. English A: Literature works entirely with literary texts. English A: Language and Literature adds non-literary material such as advertising, political speeches, photojournalism and cartoons. Both run at Higher Level (HL) and Standard Level (SL) across the two years, Years 1 and 2 of the Diploma, which Mumbai schools call DP1 and DP2.

The distinction matters for tuition more than parents expect. A Language and Literature student sits a Paper 1 built on non-literary extracts, so the skill under examination is reading an unfamiliar opinion column or advertisement closely enough to say something defensible about how it works on a reader. A Literature student's Paper 1 is a poem or a prose extract. Both are guided textual analysis, but the text types are not interchangeable, and a tutor who has only ever taught Literature will coach your child to hunt for imagery in a tourism brochure when the criteria want audience, purpose and structural choice.

The other structural fact worth knowing before you book anything is how the subject is assessed. English A carries external papers and an internal assessment, and the internal component is the Individual Oral, in which the student speaks about a global issue using one literary extract and, on the Language and Literature course, one non-literary extract alongside it. HL students also write the HL Essay, a formal piece on one of the works studied. The number of works, the timings and the component weightings are revised by the IB on its own cycle, so confirm those with your school's Diploma coordinator or the current subject guide rather than trusting any figure on a tutoring page, this one included.

English A interacts with the rest of the Diploma too. Theory of Knowledge (TOK) essays and the Extended Essay (EE) reward the same habit of defending a claim with evidence, and an EE written in English A is in effect a longer version of the HL Essay skill. Families who book IB DP English A home tuition in Thane West often find the subject tutor becomes the person who steadies the TOK essay as well. That is reasonable, but it should be a deliberate decision with its own time allocated, not something squeezed into the last ten minutes of a lesson that was meant to be about Paper 2.

  • English A: Literature works only with literary texts across both years
  • Language and Literature adds speeches, advertising, photojournalism and cartoons
  • Paper 1 is guided textual analysis of an unseen extract
  • Paper 2 is a comparative essay answering an unseen question
  • The Individual Oral is the internal assessment both courses carry
  • HL adds the HL Essay on one of the studied works

What does an English A tutor actually have to teach?

An English A tutor has to teach four things: close reading of an unseen text under time pressure, comparative argument across two studied works, a spoken analysis of a global issue for the Individual Oral, and, at Higher Level, a sustained written essay. Everything else, including reading the set texts, is school work and student work. A tutor who takes over the reading has created a dependency, not a skill.

Marks go missing in predictable places. On Paper 1 the commonest failure is description: the student tells the examiner what happens in the extract and then asserts that it is effective. The criteria want analysis and evaluation, so the sentence has to connect a specific choice to a specific effect and then say why that matters to the whole text. On Paper 2 the failure is sequence: two tidy paragraphs about one novel, two tidy paragraphs about the other, and no comparison anywhere. An examiner reading that cannot award the comparative criterion because there is nothing to award it to. The repair is structural and teachable inside about three sessions, by building the essay around points of similarity and difference rather than around books.

The Individual Oral is where a good IB DP English A home tutor in Thane West earns the fee. Students pick a global issue too large to say anything specific about, choose extracts that do not actually carry the issue they named, or prepare a polished talk and then lose the follow-up questions because they memorised a script instead of understanding an argument. Rehearsing it in the flat, with a parent occasionally within earshot, works better than rehearsing it at a centre, because the student has to speak at normal volume in the room where they will run it twenty more times before the recording.

The last thing worth insisting on is that your child can name the assessment criteria for each component and say roughly what the top band asks for. It sounds like a formality. It is the difference between a student who writes to a standard and a student who writes and hopes. By the middle of DP1 a student taking English A should be able to explain why a paragraph of theirs sits in one band rather than the next, and a tutor who cannot explain that to a parent in plain language almost certainly cannot explain it to a sixteen-year-old either.

  • Paper 1: guided analysis of an unseen literary or non-literary extract
  • Paper 2: comparative essay built on points, not on books in sequence
  • Individual Oral: one global issue genuinely carried by the chosen extracts
  • HL Essay: a formal argument on one of the studied works
  • The learner portfolio that feeds every one of the above
  • Assessment criteria the student can name and apply unprompted

Home tuition across Thane West, Majiwada and Pokhran Road

Thane West is the densest part of Thane, the district that closes the northern end of Mumbai, Maharashtra, and the geography around Thane station decides whether a weekly slot survives the term. The corridor families here describe as Thane West–Gokhale Road holds most of the older buildings within walking distance of the station. Pokhran Road runs east into the schools belt. Majiwada sits at the junction where Ghodbunder Road begins. Mulund West is close enough that a tutor based there will sometimes cross over for a good standing booking. Thane station carries the Central Line and the Trans-Harbour Line, and the Eastern Express Highway runs down the western edge of all of it.

The practical consequence is a travel-time rule, not a distance rule. Thane spreads west to east from the station across Pokhran Road, Ghodbunder Road and Majiwada, and the Ghodbunder stretch sets the schedule: a tutor living near the station reaches Kasarvadavali in twenty minutes off-peak and nearly an hour in the evening, which is exactly when DP students are free. So the honest advice for home tuition across this part of Mumbai is to match within the stretch you live on. A Pokhran Road family should take a Pokhran Road or Gokhale Road tutor. A Majiwada family can take either, because Majiwada is the hinge. Pull someone from Mulund West to the far end of Ghodbunder Road for a Wednesday at seven and you get a tutor who is late in week two, apologetic in week four and gone by week eight.

Gate protocol is its own small project. At Lodha Splendora and Ashford Royale a visitor without standing entry is logged at the gate, called up to the flat and sometimes walked to the lift lobby, which costs the first ten minutes of a lesson. Both run the usual app-based visitor approval, so the repair is to register the tutor as a recurring service visitor in week one instead of approving a fresh pass every Tuesday. Where the lesson happens matters as much. English A needs a flat surface for a text, a highlighter and quiet, which rules out the dining table during dinner preparation in a flat with a younger sibling at a loose end.

Thane has a real advantage over most of Mumbai for this subject. Because the district's international-stream population is concentrated rather than strung along a railway line, a Diploma English A tutor working here can hold four or five families within a few kilometres of each other, which keeps them available and keeps travel out of the fee. The same tutor working the Western Suburbs would spend the equivalent hours on the Western Express Highway. That concentration is why IB home tutor in Thane West requests are usually easier to fill than the identical request in Dahisar or Virar, and why a home tutor for all IB and IGCSE subjects Mumbai families want is more likely to exist in Thane than in a thinly spread suburb.

  • Gokhale Road and station-side buildings: the shortest tutor travel in Thane
  • Pokhran Road: the schools belt, best matched with Pokhran Road tutors
  • Majiwada: the hinge where Ghodbunder Road traffic starts to bite
  • Mulund West tutors cross over for a good standing weekly booking
  • Lodha Splendora and Ashford Royale: register a recurring visitor pass

The school calendar Thane West families plan around

Smt. Sulochanadevi Singhania School in Thane is the IGCSE anchor for the whole district, and that single fact shapes the Diploma English A market here more than anything else. A large share of Thane's international-stream children do their middle years and IGCSE there, then move for the Diploma, some to NES International School in Mulund West, some across to Powai or Bandra Kurla Complex, some out of the city. IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform and is not affiliated with Smt. Sulochanadevi Singhania School, NES International School or any other school named on this page, and we do not guarantee grades.

The move from IGCSE English to DP English A is the transition that catches Thane families out. A student who scored well at IGCSE arrives in DP1 and finds the questions no longer tell them what to look for. IGCSE rewards a competent, organised answer to a directed task. English A rewards an argument the student chose to make, defended with evidence they selected. The first real jolt usually lands with the first marked Paper 1 practice in the DP1 autumn term, somewhere around October and November, and that is when most English A enquiries from Thane West reach us.

After that the Mumbai school year has three predictable crunches. The DP1 end-of-year examinations in March or April, which are the first full-length sitting the student has ever done in this subject. The DP2 autumn, when the Individual Oral and the HL Essay draft collide with the Extended Essay deadline and university applications, roughly September through November. And the mock examinations in January or February before a May session, after which there is time to fix technique but no time to read new books. Dates differ by school, so confirm yours with the Diploma coordinator rather than with a tutor.

A school's own support is usually better than parents assume and narrower than they need. Teachers at these schools run clinics, mark drafts and know the cohort well, but they are carrying a class of twenty-odd and cannot sit with one student for forty minutes while they rebuild a comparative paragraph from the first sentence. That is the gap home classes fill. It is also why a good tutor asks to see the school's marked work before proposing anything: the teacher's comments tell you in five minutes what three sessions of diagnosis would, and they tell you in the language your child's examiner will use.

  • October to November in DP1: the first marked Paper 1 practice lands
  • March or April: DP1 end-of-year examinations, the first full sitting
  • September to November in DP2: Individual Oral, HL Essay and EE collide
  • January or February: mock examinations before a May session
  • Confirm your own school's dates with its Diploma coordinator

Should English A tuition happen at home or online in Mumbai?

For most Diploma English A students in Thane West, home tuition is the right default, and the reason is specific to this subject rather than general. English A work is physical: annotated extracts, a highlighter, a printed poem with notes crowding the margins, two open books side by side for Paper 2. A tutor sitting next to the student sees what they underlined and, more usefully, what they walked past. An IB DP English A home tutor in Thane West also gets the one thing a screen never gives, which is the student reading a sentence aloud badly and hearing it before anyone says anything.

Online is the wrong choice for a DP1 student who cannot yet work alone, and the right choice for a DP2 student who can. The split is maturity, not technology. A seventeen-year-old rehearsing the Individual Oral on a video call with a shared document is working perfectly well. A student fresh out of IGCSE who closes the tab the moment the argument gets hard is not. Online does solve scarcity, though: if your child is on English A: Language and Literature at HL and the two Thane tutors who have taught that course are full, an IB online tutor in Thane West arrangement, or an online Diploma specialist elsewhere in Mumbai, beats waiting out a term.

Hybrid is what most families here drift into by the second term without planning it. One session a week in the flat for the teaching, one shorter online slot for drafting and feedback, usually Sunday morning when nobody wants a stranger in the house. It suits the HL Essay, where the useful work is a tutor reading eight hundred words and talking the student through two paragraphs of them. It suits Paper 1 timed practice badly, because that needs someone in the room watching the clock and watching the student's hand stop moving at minute twenty-two.

The honest costs are these. Home tuition in Thane West is the dearest of the three, because travel time is real time and a tutor crossing Majiwada in the evening peak is paid for that hour whether they are teaching in it or not. Online is cheaper and more fragile: a dropped connection in the twentieth minute of a timed essay wastes the session. Hybrid is the most administrative, because two slots mean two things to reschedule. Choose on the student rather than on the format, and be willing to change in the second month if the first choice is not working.

  • Home: annotation, reading aloud, and a tutor who sees the page
  • Online: better for DP2 drafting, worse for timed Paper 1 practice
  • Hybrid: one session in the flat, one online feedback slot weekly
  • Scarcity may force online for HL Language and Literature
  • Travel time in the evening peak is part of a home fee

How is an English A tutor in Mumbai checked before you meet them?

Every tutor on the IB Gram panel is checked on four things before a profile reaches a parent in Mumbai: government photo identity, the degree or teaching qualification they claim, the specific IB subjects and components they say they have taught, and references from families or schools they have worked with. A claim about English A experience without something behind it does not make it onto a profile.

The subject check is the one that matters on this page. Plenty of excellent English teachers have never taught the Diploma, and the gap shows inside three weeks. So the question we ask, and the question you should ask, is component-level: which English A course, at which level, in which years, and which components did you prepare students for. A tutor who has taken a cohort through the Individual Oral answers that in one sentence. A tutor who has read about it talks about literature instead. Ask to see an anonymised piece of marked student work, or ask them to mark a paragraph of your child's in front of you.

Three things no platform can verify for you, and they are the three that decide whether this works. Whether your child will talk to this person. Whether the tutor can hold a room with a tired teenager at half past seven. And whether their explanation of the Paper 2 comparative criterion is one your child can repeat back the next morning. Sit in on the first ten minutes of the first lesson, then leave. You will learn more from that than from any profile, and good tutors expect it rather than resent it.

Be wary of a tutor who offers a guaranteed grade, quotes a success percentage, or claims a formal connection to a named Thane school. None of those can be substantiated, and the people who make them tend to be selling an arrangement rather than teaching a subject. Parents often type best IB tutor in Thane West into Google and land on a directory listing that could describe any suburb in India. The reasonable version sounds duller: this student is currently writing descriptive Paper 1 responses, here is what we will do for six weeks, here is what I expect the next school assessment to show. IB DP English A home tutoring in Thane West should feel like that.

  • Government photo identity verified against the name on the profile
  • Degree or teaching qualification confirmed rather than taken on trust
  • Component-level English A experience, named by course and level
  • References from families or schools the tutor has worked with
  • What you check: rapport, stamina at 7.30pm, clarity of explanation

HL or SL English A: what changes for tuition in Mumbai

The Higher Level and Standard Level decision changes what tuition has to do, not merely how much of it there is. At HL, English A carries an additional written component in the HL Essay and a larger body of works across the two years. So the tutoring job at HL is partly a reading-management job: making sure the student actually finishes texts in DP1, so that DP2 is not spent catching up while the Individual Oral and the HL Essay are both live. At SL the same student has room to read more slowly, and the tuition can stay closer to pure technique.

In practice the HL cost lands in the DP2 September. A Thane West student at HL has an HL Essay to draft, an Individual Oral to prepare, an Extended Essay deadline and, if they are applying abroad, a personal essay. Four pieces of extended writing in one term, three of them assessed. Sequencing those is the single most valuable thing a tutor does that term, and it is why we push HL families to start in DP1 rather than in the DP2 autumn, by which point every strong English A tutor in Thane is already committed to somebody.

Who should take HL? A student who reads for pleasure, writes a reasonable argument without being told how, and is not already carrying three other HL subjects that all set extended written work. A student who finds English A hard at SL will not find it easier at HL with a tutor attached. The school decides level entry and the Diploma coordinator confirms it; a tutor's opinion is worth hearing and is not the decision. If the honest answer after one term is that HL was the wrong call, the switch window is early, and that conversation belongs in DP1 rather than in the January of DP2.

Fees follow the same logic, which is why we will not publish a price list. What an English A tutor charges in Thane West depends on the board and level, on how scarce that specific course specialist is, on how far they travel and at what hour, on session length, and on whether they mark written work between sessions. HL with essay feedback costs more than SL technique work, because reading and annotating a long draft is unpaid time unless it sits inside the fee. IB tuition fees in Thane West also move with the calendar, and a January enquiry for a May session is a seller's market. Ask what is included, specifically whether draft marking and a written progress note are.

  • HL adds the HL Essay and a larger body of studied works
  • DP2 September at HL: four extended pieces, three of them assessed
  • The school decides level entry; the coordinator confirms it
  • Fees depend on level, scarcity, travel hour, session length, marking
  • Ask whether draft marking sits inside the fee or outside it

What should progress in English A look like after four weeks?

After four weeks of weekly sessions, expect better paragraphs rather than a better grade. Specifically, your child should be able to name the assessment criteria for the component they are working on, write an analytical sentence that links a textual choice to an effect without being prompted, and tell you what their last Paper 1 practice was missing. That is a realistic four-week return on English A tuition, and it is enough to judge the match on.

At one term, the measurable change should show in school marks on the components actually practised, and in the student's willingness to start a timed essay without negotiating first. If neither has moved after a full term of weekly home classes, something is wrong, and it is usually one of three things: the student is not reading the texts, the sessions are being spent on content rather than technique, or the match is simply not working. All three are fixable. None of them is fixed by adding a second session a week, which is the standard reflex and the standard waste of money.

Across one full examination cycle, a student who started in DP1 with weekly support and did the reading should find their writing unrecognisable from their first marked piece. We will not attach a number to that, because we cannot. English A outcomes depend on what the student reads, what they write between sessions, how their school teaches Paper 2, and how they perform on one morning in May or November. IB Gram does not guarantee grades, and a tutor who does is telling you something they have no way of knowing. What we will say is that students who hold a fixed weekly slot from DP1 rarely reach the mocks without a method.

When it is not working, say so early and plainly. Message us, tell us what specifically is wrong, and we will either take it up with the tutor or replace them. A replacement means a fresh shortlist from the same panel, and we ask the incoming tutor to read the outgoing one's notes rather than start from scratch, which spares the student a repeated diagnostic. Most replacements we handle in Mumbai happen in weeks three to five, almost always for fit rather than competence, and almost always because the parent sensed it in week one and waited for proof.

  • Four weeks: criteria named, analytical sentences written unprompted
  • One term: school marks move on the components actually practised
  • No movement after a term means reading, technique or fit
  • A second weekly session rarely repairs a poor match
  • Tell us in week three rather than week eight

Starting IB DP English A home classes in Thane West

To start, have four things ready: the course name exactly as the school writes it, English A: Literature or English A: Language and Literature; the level; the works your child is studying this year; and the last two pieces of marked English work with the teacher's comments still on them. With those in hand the first session is diagnostic rather than introductory, and nobody spends forty minutes establishing what a Paper 1 is.

The first session has a shape. The tutor reads the marked work, asks the student to write or annotate something short under time, then talks through one paragraph of it in detail. By the end there should be a plan in plain words: these two components, in this order, over this many weeks, and this is what you will do between sessions. Ask for that plan in writing. A tutor who cannot produce one after ninety minutes with your child has not diagnosed anything yet.

Settle the logistics in the same conversation. Which evenings, what happens when a school event eats a Tuesday, whether missed sessions carry over, who will be at home, and how the tutor gets through the gate at Lodha Splendora or Ashford Royale without losing ten minutes to the register. An IB private tutor Thane West families book through us will normally fix a Tuesday and Thursday or a Monday and Friday pattern, because one evening a week is thin for a two-year course and three is more than most Diploma students can absorb alongside school.

One last thing, and it is what parents here say they wish they had heard first: do not book in the January of DP2 and expect a rescue. Technique can be rebuilt inside a term. Two years of unread texts cannot. If your child is in DP1 now and the first marked Paper 1 came back weaker than their IGCSE results suggested it would, this is the moment. A search for IB tutors near me Thane West will return the same twelve directory pages it returned last year, and an IB tutor Mumbai families actually keep is one they found with a term to spare. We also arrange all IB and IGCSE subjects home classes Thane West parents ask about once the English A slot is running.

  • Bring the course name exactly as the school writes it
  • Bring the last two pieces of marked English work
  • Expect a written plan after the first ninety-minute session
  • Fix two weekday evenings rather than one for a two-year course
  • Register the tutor at your society gate in week one
FAQs

Thane West tutoring — questions parents ask

What does an IB DP English A home tutor in Thane West actually do in a session?+

An IB DP English A home tutor in Thane West spends most of a session on your child's own writing rather than on the texts. A normal ninety minutes runs roughly like this: ten minutes reading what the student produced since last week, twenty-five minutes of timed writing or annotation on an unseen extract, forty minutes rebuilding one or two paragraphs of it against the criteria, and the last stretch setting the next piece of work. The set texts are read at school and at home. The tutor's job is the thinking and the writing that the reading is supposed to produce.

Is English A: Literature or English A: Language and Literature the harder course?+

Neither is harder; they are hard in different places. Literature asks a student to say something original about texts that have been written about for a century, which rewards wide reading and punishes a student who has only read the set works. Language and Literature asks a student to analyse material they have never seen before, including advertising and journalism, which rewards flexibility and punishes a student who only has one analytical template. Most Mumbai schools choose the course for the cohort rather than the student, so the practical question is not which is easier but whether your child's tutor has taught the one they are entered for.

Can a tutor travel to Pokhran Road or Majiwada for a 7pm weekday slot?+

Yes, provided the tutor already lives on your side of Thane. Pokhran Road and Majiwada are both reachable from the station side in minutes off-peak, but the evening is a different city: the Ghodbunder Road approach and the Majiwada junction can turn a fifteen-minute run into most of an hour. So we match within the stretch. A Pokhran Road family gets a Pokhran Road or Gokhale Road tutor; a Majiwada family can take either because Majiwada is the hinge between them. Where we have had to pull somebody from the far end of Ghodbunder Road, the slot has rarely survived a full term.

How does a tutor get through the gate at Lodha Splendora or Ashford Royale?+

Register them once as a recurring visitor and the problem disappears. At both Lodha Splendora and Ashford Royale a one-off visitor is logged at the gate, called up to your flat and sometimes escorted, which eats the first ten minutes of every lesson. Most Thane societies now run app-based visitor approval, so in week one add the tutor as a standing weekly service visitor with the day and time, and tell the security desk it is a recurring booking. It also helps to give the tutor the wing and flat number in writing, because the larger Thane complexes have gates that are a long walk from each other.

What do IB tuition fees in Thane West depend on?+

Five things, and we will not quote a figure because any figure would be wrong for somebody. Board and level come first, because HL work with essay marking is a different job from SL technique work. Then scarcity: a Language and Literature HL specialist in Thane is rarer than a Mathematics tutor and prices accordingly. Then travel, both distance and hour, since an evening crossing of Majiwada is paid time. Then session length. Then whether marking written drafts between sessions is inside the fee. Ask about that last one explicitly; it is the commonest source of a disputed invoice in the second month.

My child did well in IGCSE English. Why is DP English A so much harder?+

Because the questions stop telling your child what to do. IGCSE English sets directed tasks with a clear target, and an organised, competent answer scores well. English A sets an unseen extract or an open comparative question and expects the student to choose the argument, select the evidence and defend the reading. That is a different skill, and it is the reason a student from Smt. Sulochanadevi Singhania School or NES International School can arrive in DP1 with strong IGCSE results and get a disappointing first Paper 1 back in November. It is normal, it is fixable, and it is much easier to fix in DP1 than in DP2.

How early should we start HL English A tuition?+

Start in DP1, ideally after the first marked piece of work comes back. The HL course carries the HL Essay on top of everything SL students do, and the HL Essay draft collides with the Individual Oral, the Extended Essay and university applications in the DP2 autumn. A student who arrives at that term already able to write a comparative paragraph has one problem; a student who arrives still learning what the criteria want has four. Starting in DP1 also means you get a choice of tutors. By the DP2 September the few Thane specialists who know this course well are usually full.

Does online English A tuition work as well as home tuition?+

For a self-managing DP2 student, close to it; for a DP1 student who is still learning to work alone, no. English A online works best on drafting and discussion, where a shared document and a video call are genuinely enough, and it is how a lot of HL Essay feedback happens. It works worst on timed Paper 1 practice, which needs somebody physically watching the clock and noticing when the student stops writing. Most Thane families we place end up hybrid by the second term: home tuition for the teaching, a shorter online slot for feedback on written work.

What if the tutor is not working out after a month?+

Tell us in week three and we replace them. You do not need a reason beyond fit, and fit is the reason in most cases we handle. The process is a new shortlist from the same Thane panel, with the incoming tutor reading the outgoing tutor's notes so your child is not re-diagnosed from zero. What we ask is that you say something specific: sessions drift into conversation, the student is not being made to write, the explanations are not sticking. Vague dissatisfaction produces a second match that fails the same way as the first.

Can the same tutor help with the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge?+

Often yes, and it should be a separate decision with its own time. An English A tutor is well placed to help with an Extended Essay in English and with the Theory of Knowledge essay, because both reward the same discipline of defending a claim with selected evidence. What goes wrong is scheduling: the Extended Essay gets the last ten minutes of a Paper 2 session, then the last twenty, and by October the English A work has quietly stopped. If you want both, book the time for both and say which one gives way in a crunch week.

Where in the flat should home classes happen, and does a parent need to be there?+

A table with a hard surface, a lamp and a closable door, and no, a parent does not need to sit in past the first ten minutes of the first session. English A needs space for an open text, a notebook and a highlighter, which is why the dining table during dinner preparation is the commonest bad choice in a Thane West flat. A bedroom desk works if the door shuts. Be in the house, not in the room. The one exception is Individual Oral rehearsal, where a parent within earshot is useful, because the student has to learn to speak at full volume to somebody who is listening.

Do you have English A tutors who have taught at Mumbai IB schools?+

Yes, and we will tell you which programmes a tutor has taught without implying any current relationship with a school. Several tutors on our Thane panel have taught the Diploma in Mumbai schools and in Thane, and their profiles name the courses and components rather than the employers, because naming an employer invites a claim of affiliation we are not entitled to make. IB Gram is an independent platform and is not affiliated with any school. What you should ask for instead is the course, the level, the years taught, and a piece of marked work you can look at.

Find your Thane West tutor

Send us the course name, the level, your child's school and the two evenings that genuinely work. We come back with two or three Diploma English A profiles, each listing the components that tutor has taught, and we arrange a first session at your flat in Thane West. You decide after that session rather than before it. If the fit is wrong, tell us inside the first fortnight and we reopen the shortlist. IB Gram is independent and does not guarantee grades.
