What IB DP Design Technology home tuition in Mumbai is matched on

The call almost always comes after a result. A student in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) who enjoys the subject, is liked by the teacher and is doing well on the design project has come back from a mock with a theory mark that does not match any of that. The parent assumes the content was not learned. Usually it was. What went wrong is that the student wrote about the subject instead of answering the question, and in these papers those are different activities. Matching for this begins with the script, not with the syllabus.

So the first thing we ask for is the marked mock paper, with the examiner's or teacher's comments still on it, plus the student's own notes if they exist and the school's timetable of remaining assessments. From a marked script a specialist can tell within fifteen minutes whether the problem is knowledge, precision, command terms, timing, or sketching. Those four need different tutors' strengths and very different session plans, and a tutor who starts by re-teaching the whole course from the beginning has misread the brief, wasted a term and charged for it.

We shortlist narrowly rather than broadly. Design Technology is a thin subject in this city, so there is no point sending eight profiles; two or three names with a reason attached is more honest. You see each tutor's IB background, whether they have marked or examined these papers rather than only taught them, their availability on the two evenings you actually have, and how far they would be travelling to you. If nobody suitable can reach your area for the slots you need, we say so instead of filling the slot with a general science tutor.

The sequence is short because a DP2 family working to a mock-to-final timeline has weeks, not months.

  • 1. Send the marked mock script, the DP year, the level and your area.
  • 2. A specialist diagnoses whether the loss is knowledge, precision, command terms or timing.
  • 3. We shortlist two or three tutors who have marked these papers, not only taught them.
  • 4. The first home session re-marks that script with the student present.
  • 5. After two sessions you keep the tutor or ask us for a different one.

Why practical students reach DP2 under-prepared for the theory

Design Technology attracts students who like making things, and the course rewards that temperament in the design project while assessing something quite different in the examinations. For two years the subject feels practical. There are workshop sessions, there is a project with a user and a prototype, there is a sketchbook. The theory is taught in blocks between all of that, and because it generates no visible weekly output the student files it under things to revise later. Later turns out to be the fortnight before the mock.

The second reason is subtler. Practical students build genuine understanding through their hands, and understanding is not the same as examinable knowledge. A student who has spent a term choosing a material for a real product knows perfectly well why they chose it, and will write half a page explaining their own product when the question asked them to name the property and relate it to a requirement. The knowledge is there. The transfer into the form the paper wants has never been taught, because nobody at school had a spare hour to teach it.

Higher Level (HL) and Standard Level (SL) students meet this at different depths, with Higher Level carrying additional theory of its own. The exact structure and weighting of the components for the session your child sits comes from your school's coordinator and the current subject guide, not from an older sibling's memory or from a forum. The IB revises its subject guides on its own cycle, and planning revision around an out-of-date breakdown is one of the easier ways to waste a term.

What home tuition changes here is sequencing. Starting theory technique in the second half of DP2 means competing with Internal Assessment (IA) deadlines, the Extended Essay (EE) and Theory of Knowledge (TOK) all at once. An IB home tutor in Mumbai working with a DP1 student can do the same work in half the sessions, because there is room to be slow about it. Families who come to us in DP1 for this are rare and they get much more for their money than the January crowd.

  • The subject feels practical, so theory gets deferred to the mock fortnight
  • Hands-on understanding is real but is not yet examinable knowledge
  • Higher Level carries further theory in a paper of its own
  • Confirm component structure with the coordinator and the current guide
  • Technique taught in DP1 takes half the sessions it takes in DP2

Papers 1, 2 and (HL) 3: what each one actually asks for

Paper 1 tests breadth of recall across the taught course, and it punishes vagueness more than it punishes ignorance. A student who half-knows four topics scores worse than one who knows three precisely, because the wrong-but-plausible answer earns nothing. The revision method that works is not rereading notes; it is answering questions and then checking which distractor the student was drawn to and why. A Design Technology tutor in Mumbai who keeps a record of the student's wrong choices across four weeks can usually name the two or three concepts that are genuinely unstable underneath them.

Paper 2 is where most marks are lost and gained, because it is structured questions and extended response. Structured questions want named things: the property of a material, the stage of the design cycle, the principle involved, the specific human factor. A response that names the right thing and then relates it to the context in the question earns the mark; a response that describes the context beautifully and never names the thing does not. This is the single most common pattern in this subject and it is entirely fixable in a term of weekly work.

Paper 3, for Higher Level candidates, goes further into the HL theory, and the step up that catches students is the demand for application rather than recall. The content is the same family of ideas, asked in a way that requires the student to apply them to an unfamiliar situation. A Design Technology IB Diploma Programme (DP), Years 1-2 tutor Mumbai parents shortlist should be able to show, on one past question, exactly where a Paper 2 habit stops working on Paper 3.

Across all of them, two generic skills carry disproportionate weight. The first is sketching to communicate: an annotated sketch where the labels do the explaining, produced quickly, is often a faster route to a mark than a paragraph. The second is reading the mark allocation as an instruction about quantity. One other thing is worth saying because it is a boundary rather than a technique: nothing on these papers requires a student to attempt any workshop operation at home. Making, machine work, finishing and material treatment belong in the school workshop, supervised by the subject teacher and the technician, and home tuition for the papers never touches it.

  • Paper 1 punishes vagueness; track which distractors the student chooses and why
  • Paper 2 structured questions want a named property, stage, principle or factor
  • Paper 3 at Higher Level demands application to unfamiliar situations
  • Annotated sketches where labels do the explaining earn marks quickly
  • No paper requires workshop work at home; that stays at school

Home tuition across Mumbai, zone by zone

Exam-technique work needs an unbroken weekly rhythm more than almost any other kind of tutoring, because the method only embeds through repetition on fresh questions. That makes travel the thing we are strictest about. In South Mumbai we place home tutors for families in Colaba, Cuffe Parade, Churchgate, Fort, Walkeshwar, Peddar Road, Tardeo, Worli and Lower Parel, and we match within the island almost without exception. Distances here are short and the clock is not: a tutor coming from Worli to Colaba covers eight kilometres and still loses forty minutes to the Peddar Road and Haji Ali signals at seven in the evening. Metro Line 3 from Cuffe Parade to the Bandra Kurla Complex has made some tutor journeys possible that were not, and the Coastal Road helps on some routes and not on others.

The Central Suburbs are the other zone worth dwelling on for this page, because the geography is unintuitive. Kurla, Ghatkopar, Vikhroli, Bhandup and Mulund sit on the Central Line and the Eastern Express Highway, while Powai and Chandivali hang off the Jogeshwari Vikhroli Link Road with no station of their own. A tutor reaching Hiranandani Gardens comes by road from Andheri East, Kanjurmarg or Ghatkopar, and the Santacruz Chembur Link Road matters more there than any train does. For a 6.30pm session in Powai, where the tutor starts from is the whole question.

In the Eastern Suburbs we cover Chembur, Govandi, Wadala, Vikhroli and Mulund, served by the Central and Harbour lines; the Eastern Freeway makes South Mumbai reachable from Chembur and Wadala far faster than the map suggests, and the Chembur to Wadala monorail occasionally helps a tutor who does not drive. The Western Suburbs hold the largest group of IB students in Mumbai, Maharashtra, and we match along the Western Line rather than across it: Bandra with Khar West and Santacruz, Juhu with Vile Parle, Andheri West with Oshiwara, then Goregaon, Malad, Kandivali, Borivali and Dahisar up the Western Express Highway and Link Road, with Metro Lines 2A and 7 between Dahisar and Gundavali making the northern stretch genuinely workable in the evening.

Navi Mumbai is matched node to node across Vashi, Nerul, Belapur, Kharghar and Panvel on Palm Beach Road and the Sion Panvel Highway, with the Harbour and Trans Harbour lines and the Navi Mumbai Metro from Belapur to Pendhar; the Atal Setu has shortened the drive from the island city without making a weekday evening crossing sensible. In Thane we work across Pokhran Road, Majiwada, Vartak Nagar and out along Ghodbunder Road to Kasarvadavali, where the evening peak turns a twenty-minute run into most of an hour. IB DP Design Technology home tuition in Mumbai works at this distance only when the tutor already lives on the right side of that corridor.

  • South Mumbai matched within the island: Colaba, Fort, Peddar Road, Worli
  • Powai and Chandivali reached by road via JVLR, never by train
  • Eastern Suburbs use the Eastern Freeway southbound from Chembur and Wadala
  • Western Suburbs matched along the line, Bandra to Dahisar
  • Navi Mumbai node to node; Thane built around the Ghodbunder Road peak

When do Mumbai schools run the mocks that expose this?

Most Mumbai IB schools run DP2 mock examinations in January or February, and that is the month our enquiries for theory technique spike. The timing is awkward by design: mocks land in the same weeks as the final push on the design project and, for many students, the last Extended Essay deadline. A student who discovers a theory problem in that fortnight has to fix it while also finishing everything else, which is why we push families who can see it coming to start in DP1 or at least in the term before.

There is usually a second, quieter signal earlier. Schools run internal tests at the end of DP1 or in the first term of DP2, and a practical student's theory weakness is already visible there. It gets forgiven because the project is going well and the teacher likes the student. Families who act on that earlier signal rather than on the mock get a far easier year. Children of families we work with attend Dhirubhai Ambani International School and Ascend International School in the Bandra Kurla Complex, Ecole Mondiale World School, Jamnabai Narsee International School and Utpal Shanghvi Global School in Juhu, Oberoi International School off JVLR, Hiranandani Foundation School in Powai, B.D. Somani International School in Cuffe Parade, Aditya Birla World Academy in Tardeo, Gopi Birla Memorial School in Walkeshwar, JBCN International School in Parel and Chembur, NES International School in Mulund West, Thakur International School in Kandivali East, and D.Y. Patil International School in Nerul. Naming a school is local context and nothing else. IB Gram is an independent platform and is not affiliated with any school named here, with any examination board, or with the International Baccalaureate organisation.

Schools also vary in how much past-paper practice they set, and this is worth asking about directly at a parent meeting. Some departments run timed practice throughout DP2 and return marked scripts with mark scheme references. Others set practice as optional homework, which practical students rarely do, because there is always project work that feels more urgent. If your child's school is the second kind, that gap is exactly what home tuition should fill, and the tutor should be marking against the real scheme rather than giving an impression.

The monsoon has a practical effect on all of this. From June to September evening sessions in Mumbai get cancelled or shifted, and a weekly technique programme that loses three sessions in a month loses its rhythm. Agree a makeup rule with the tutor at the start: a shifted slot later in the same week, or an online session in the booked slot, decided in advance rather than negotiated in the rain.

  • DP2 mocks in January or February are when the theory problem surfaces
  • End-of-DP1 internal tests show the same weakness months earlier
  • Ask the school how much timed practice is set and marked
  • If practice is optional homework, that is the gap home tuition fills
  • Agree a monsoon makeup rule before the first cancelled session

Does exam technique need home tuition in Mumbai, or will online do?

Home tuition is the stronger choice for this particular job, which is not something we say about every subject. Exam technique is trained under timed conditions, with a pen, on paper, and with somebody in the room who can see the student stop writing and work out why. IB DP Design Technology home tuition in Mumbai lets a tutor set twenty minutes of a past paper, watch where the hesitation happens, and then mark it immediately while the student still remembers what they were thinking. Watching a student's hand hover over a sketch is information you do not get through a camera.

Sketching is the second argument for a tutor at the table. Annotated sketch answers under time pressure are a trainable skill, and training them means watching the student draw, stopping them when they start shading instead of labelling, and showing on their own page what a faster version looks like. Design Technology home classes Mumbai families book for this reason tend to be longer and less frequent than online ones: ninety minutes once a week, with a timed section, marking and a rewrite inside the same session.

Online does real work here too and we use it as the second half of a pattern. An IB online tutor in Mumbai can mark a script sent the night before, put the mark scheme beside it on a shared screen and go through where each point landed. That works well, costs less, and reschedules easily, which matters in mock season. What it does not do is catch the student who writes slowly because they are rereading the question four times, or the one who skips the sketch question and comes back to it never.

The hybrid pattern we suggest for DP2 is a weekly home session for timed work and sketching, with one short online review when a script has just been marked. Home tuition costs more because travel time is working time, so put the home hours where the physical presence earns something. Families in Kharghar, Panvel or out along Ghodbunder Road sometimes reverse this out of necessity and work mostly online; it is a reasonable second best and we will tell you it is a second best rather than selling it as equivalent.

  • Timed paper work with a pen, watched in the room, is the core of the method
  • Sketch technique needs a tutor who can see the student drawing
  • Online suits marking a script that was sent the night before
  • Hybrid: weekly home session for timed work, short online review after marking
  • Where travel makes home sessions impossible, online is a reasonable second best

How do you check a Design Technology home tutor knows the mark scheme?

Ask them to mark something in front of you. We verify identity, qualifications and claimed teaching experience before any profile is shown, and for this subject we check whether the tutor has marked or examined the papers rather than only taught the course; but the test that settles it for a parent takes ten minutes in the first session. Give the tutor the student's mock script and ask them to go through one structured question explaining where each mark was earned or lost and why. Somebody who has worked with the real scheme speaks in terms of named points and specific clauses. Somebody who has not talks about how the answer reads.

The second question to ask is what they will not do. A tutor for the papers teaches method, marks work, sets practice and explains content. A tutor does not write, redraft or draw any part of the design project, and does not supply project material, because the project must be the student's own work; if any artificial intelligence tool is used at any stage, the school's academic integrity rules govern it and the coordinator is the person to ask what is permitted. Keeping the paper work and the project work separate in your head helps here: this page is about the examinations, and the project has its own rules.

Ask also what happens if the tutor and the school disagree about an answer. The right response is that the teacher and the current subject guide are the authority and the tutor will show the student how to find out rather than insisting. An IB private tutor Mumbai families keep for two years is nearly always one who treats the school as the reference point. IB DP Design Technology home tuition in Mumbai goes wrong most often when a confident tutor teaches a version of the course that is one guide revision out of date.

On results, be wary of anyone who promises a specific grade, and be wary of a tutor who offers a guaranteed grade on papers marked externally by examiners nobody in your house will ever meet. We do not guarantee grades. A parent searching for the best IB tutor in Mumbai is really asking whether this person knows this course and these papers, and a marked script answers that faster than any profile does.

  • Identity, qualifications and teaching experience verified before a profile is shown
  • Ask the tutor to mark one structured question aloud in session one
  • Marking talk should name points and scheme clauses, not describe style
  • The school teacher and current subject guide stay the authority
  • Be wary of anyone who promises a specific grade on externally marked papers

How do you turn a practical student into an examinable one?

The method starts with the student marking their own script before the tutor does. They get a clean copy of their mock answers and the real mark scheme, and they award themselves marks. Then the tutor marks the same script independently and the two totals go side by side. The gap is the whole lesson. A student who gave themselves eleven where the scheme gives six does not have a knowledge problem; they have a calibration problem, and until they can see what the scheme actually credits, every hour of revision is being spent on the wrong thing. Most students need to do this three or four times before their own marking lands close to the real thing, and the day it does is the day the technique starts working on its own.

Precision comes next, and it is drilled on short questions. The habit to break is describing instead of naming. If a question asks why a material suits an application, the answer leads with the property, says why that property matters for this specific requirement, and stops. Stiffness, density, thermal conductivity, corrosion resistance, electrical conductivity, hardness: the examiner is looking for the term. The same applies to processes and to principles. The exercise that works is a page of question stems answered in one sentence each, marked ruthlessly, where any sentence that does not contain a named thing scores nothing. Twenty of those in a session teaches more than two essays.

Design-cycle questions are the place where practical students have an unfair advantage they usually waste. They have spent a year on a real project with a real user, which means they have genuine examples of research that changed a decision, a specification criterion that turned out to be untestable, a development route they abandoned and a test that gave an unhelpful result. Those are exactly the illustrations these questions reward. The work in a session is building a small bank of the student's own examples, each in two sentences, that can be dropped into an answer about any stage of the cycle. It converts experience the student already has into marks they are currently leaving behind.

Data and calculation items are a separate drill because they are lost to carelessness rather than ignorance. The recurring faults are not reading the axis labels, not carrying the unit through, reading a value off a table without checking which column it belongs to, selecting a material from comparative data without stating the criterion that drove the choice, and calculating a percentage change the wrong way round. The fix is mechanical: underline the quantity asked for, write the unit before computing, and state the comparison basis in words. The same list of faults recurs across students, which means it can be drilled in two sessions and then spot-checked.

Extended responses are shaped by the command term, and that is the one thing to teach before content. 'Outline' wants brief points without development. 'Explain' wants a mechanism or a reason chain. 'Discuss' wants more than one position held side by side. 'Evaluate' wants both sides and then a judgement the student actually commits to, and the missing judgement is the commonest lost mark in the whole paper. Alongside this sits writing to the mark allocation: the number of marks tells the student how many distinct points to make, and three marks means three separate things rather than one thing said three ways. Finally, timing and sketching get practised together, because the students who run out of time are almost always the ones writing paragraphs where a quick annotated sketch with four labels would have scored the same marks in a quarter of the time.

  • The student marks their own script first; the gap to the real mark is the lesson
  • Drill naming the property, process or principle in single-sentence answers
  • Build a bank of two-sentence examples from the student's own design project
  • Data items: underline the quantity, carry the unit, state the comparison basis
  • Teach the command term before the content; 'evaluate' needs a committed judgement
  • Train sketching and timing together, because sketches buy back minutes

What moves after four weeks of home tuition in Mumbai

Four weeks in, the measurable change is calibration rather than marks. The student's own marking of their work should be landing within a point or two of the tutor's, short answers should be leading with a named property or principle instead of a description, and there should be a file of marked questions with the scheme references written on them. Raw scores on full papers may not have moved much yet, and that is normal; the mechanism changes before the total does. What should have changed visibly is the student's ability to say why they lost a mark, which a month earlier they could not.

By the end of a term expect full-paper practice completed inside the time, extended responses that commit to a judgement when asked to evaluate, a working bank of examples from the student's own project, and the data-item faults largely gone. This is also the point at which the theory work starts feeding back into the project write-up, because the vocabulary is the same vocabulary, and students often notice that before their parents do. Over a full examination cycle the honest pattern is cumulative rather than sudden: steadier practice, fewer careless losses, and a student who walks into the final papers knowing what each question type wants from them.

The limits deserve saying clearly. Home tuition cannot replace content that was never learned in two years, and a student starting technique work in March of DP2 is choosing which topics to rescue rather than fixing everything. The papers are marked externally against a scheme nobody in the room controls. We do not guarantee grades, and no honest tutor offers a guaranteed grade. What weekly work reliably produces is a student whose written answers match what the questions ask for, which is a different and more defensible promise.

If the fit is wrong, tell us after two or three sessions. It is a routine request with no penalty attached and no awkward conversation required. The failures particular to technique tutoring are easy to spot: a tutor who lectures instead of setting timed work, a tutor who gives an impression of a mark rather than marking against the scheme, or a tutor who keeps re-teaching content because that is more comfortable than correcting a student's writing. Any of those three, raised in week two, gets fixed or gets a different tutor.

  • Four weeks: the student's own marking lands close to the real scheme
  • One term: papers finished in time and evaluations that commit to a judgement
  • Theory vocabulary starts improving the project write-up as a side effect
  • Starting in March of DP2 means choosing which topics to rescue
  • A tutor who lectures instead of setting timed work is the wrong tutor

Booking IB DP Design Technology home tuition in Mumbai

Bring four things to the first session and the hour pays for itself. The marked mock script with the teacher's comments still on it. A clean copy of the same paper, so the student can attempt a section again under time. The school's remaining assessment dates. And an honest answer from the student about which paper they ran out of time on, because students know this and parents usually do not.

The first session is a diagnosis and a re-mark. The tutor and the student go through the script together, the student marks a question themselves before hearing the answer, and the hour ends with a plan naming the two faults being worked on first and the practice that will be set each week. Parents are welcome for the opening and closing ten minutes. Ask to see the marked practice at the end of each month; it is the simplest way to tell whether technique work is happening or whether sessions have quietly turned back into content revision.

Settle the logistics in week one as well: a fixed weekly slot, a table with room for a full paper and a sketch pad, a standing entry arrangement at your society gate, and an agreed rule for monsoon cancellations. Typing IB tutors near me Mumbai into a phone the night after a bad mock returns a list of strangers. Send us the script instead, with your area, and we will tell you whether a home tutor for Design Technology Mumbai parents can book is realistically available for the evenings you have.

  • Bring the marked mock script and a clean copy of the same paper
  • Bring the school's remaining assessment dates
  • Expect a diagnosis and a re-mark, not a lesson, in session one
  • Ask to see the marked practice at the end of every month
  • Fix the weekly slot, the gate entry and the monsoon rule in week one
FAQs

Mumbai tutoring — questions parents ask

My son is strong at design but weak on the theory papers. Is that common?+

It is the single most common pattern in this subject. Students choose Design Technology because they like making things, the project rewards that, and the theory quietly becomes something to revise later. The understanding is usually present; what is missing is the transfer into the form the paper wants, which is naming a property, process or principle and relating it to the question rather than describing a product. That transfer is teachable in a term of weekly work, and it is faster in DP1 than in the weeks after a DP2 mock.

What does a session actually consist of?+

A timed section of a past paper, marking, and a rewrite, in that order. A typical ninety-minute home session gives twenty to thirty minutes to questions under exam conditions, then the student marks their own work against the real scheme before the tutor does, then the two compare totals and work through the gap, then the student rewrites the weakest answer immediately. Content gets taught only where the marking shows a genuine hole. A session that is all explanation and no writing has not done the job you are paying for.

Why would a tutor make my daughter mark her own paper?+

Because the gap between her mark and the real one is the fastest diagnosis available. A student who awards herself eleven where the scheme gives six is not short of knowledge; she cannot yet see what the scheme credits, so her revision is aimed at the wrong target. Doing this three or four times brings her own marking close to the real thing, and from that point she can correct her own answers between sessions. It is also the habit that keeps working after the tuition stops, which is the point.

Can his design project experience help in the written papers?+

Yes, and most students waste it. Design-cycle questions reward concrete illustration, and a student who has run a real project has genuine examples: research that changed a decision, a specification criterion that proved untestable, a development route abandoned for a reason, a test that gave an unhelpful result. A tutor builds those into a bank of two-sentence examples the student can use in any answer about the cycle. It converts a year of real work into marks that are currently being left on the table.

Will a home tutor travel to our building in Chembur for a 7pm weekday session?+

Usually yes, if the tutor is matched from the Eastern or Central Suburbs rather than from across the city. Chembur sits on the Harbour and Central lines with the Eastern Express Highway alongside, and the Eastern Freeway makes it reachable from South Mumbai and Wadala faster than the map suggests. A tutor coming from Borivali for a 7pm start will cancel by week six. Give us two evening windows instead of one and we will shortlist people whose travel genuinely fits them every week.

What does our society gate need before a tutor starts coming weekly?+

Set up a standing visitor entry in the first week rather than approving a fresh visit every Tuesday. Give the society office the tutor's name and phone number, ask whether they want an identity document or photograph on file, and check whether the record sits with the main gate or the tower lobby. Tutors carry identification and follow whatever the building requires. The detail families forget is the visitor cut-off time: some Mumbai buildings stop logging entries earlier than you would assume, which quietly rules out a late slot.

How many sessions a week does exam technique need?+

One longer weekly session, with practice set between them, works better than two short ones for this particular job. Technique embeds through repetition on fresh questions, and the repetition has to happen when the tutor is not there. A ninety-minute home session with timed work, marking and a rewrite, plus two sets of questions during the week, is the pattern most of our DP2 families settle on. In the four weeks before mocks some families add a short online review after each marked script, which is worth doing if the marking turnaround is otherwise too slow.

Does the tutor need to help with the design project as well?+

Not necessarily, and it is worth deciding deliberately. The papers and the project need different work, and a tutor hired for exam technique may do only that. If you do want project support from the same person, the boundary is firm: a tutor may teach the design method and question a draft the student wrote, but may never write, redraft, draw or supply any part of it, and any workshop or prototyping work stays at school under the subject teacher and the technician. Any AI use is declared under the school's rules.

What do IB tuition fees in Mumbai depend on for this kind of work?+

Rates depend on the tutor's IB experience, especially whether they have marked or examined the papers, the level your child is taking, how scarce the subject is, the session length and the travel distance. Design Technology is a thin subject in this city, so examiner-level experience is scarce and priced accordingly. Home tuition carries travel as working time, which is why a cross-city match costs more than a local one. We will not quote a figure we cannot stand behind; ask each shortlisted tutor directly alongside their background.

We only found out after the January mock. Is it too late?+

It is late but not wasted, and the plan changes shape. With a few weeks before finals the work becomes triage: pick the two faults costing the most marks, usually command terms and careless data losses, drill those, and accept that some content gaps will not close. A student who learns to commit to a judgement when a question says evaluate, and to name the property instead of describing the product, recovers marks across every paper. Starting in DP1 or early DP2 gives a far better return, which is why we say so plainly.

What results can we expect from a term of weekly sessions?+

Expect calibration first, then scores. Within a month the student should be marking their own work close to the real scheme and leading short answers with a named property or principle. Within a term expect papers finished inside the time and evaluations that commit to a judgement. We do not guarantee grades, and no honest tutor offers a guaranteed grade on papers marked externally against a scheme nobody in the room controls. The defensible promise is that the student's answers will match what the questions actually ask for.
