IB DP Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) Tutor in Mumbai

If you are looking for an IB DP CAS tutor in Mumbai, the honest answer is that you do not need one and should not pay for one. CAS is completed with your school's coordinator, it is not graded, and it has no syllabus. IB Gram does not tutor CAS. We do arrange home tuition for the subjects that are examined.

IB Gram does not tutor CAS and does not bill for CAS support
CAS reflections and evidence must be the student's own work

What happens when you ask us for an IB DP CAS tutor in Mumbai

Requests for an IB DP CAS tutor in Mumbai reach us most weeks, usually from a parent of a DP2 student, usually in the second half of the year, and usually with a sentence like: the school says her CAS is incomplete and we do not know what that means. The first thing we do is not match a tutor. We ask what the school has actually said, in writing if there is anything in writing, and who said it. In nearly every case the answer points straight back to the one person who can resolve it, which is the school's CAS coordinator.

Then we say the thing that costs us the booking. Creativity, Activity, Service is not a taught subject. There is no paper, no criteria grid an outsider can mark against, no syllabus to work through and no examination at the end of it. A tutor sitting across the table from your child has nothing to teach, because the content of CAS is whatever your child has chosen to do and whatever she has thought about it afterwards. Hiring somebody to supply that is hiring somebody to supply your child's own experience, which is not possible, and her own reflections, which is not permitted.

What we will do in that conversation is unpaid and takes ten minutes. We tell you who to email at the school, what to ask for, and what a reasonable reply looks like. We tell you to ask for the specific gap rather than a general warning, because incomplete can mean three entirely different things: evidence that was never uploaded, outcomes the coordinator cannot see demonstrated, or a reflection round that was skipped. Each has a different fix, and all three fixes belong to the student and the coordinator.

If, while we are talking, it turns out that the real problem is a Chemistry grade sliding while everything else burns, we can help with that. That is a different request, and it gets a proper match.

  • 1. Tell us exactly what the school said about the CAS gap
  • 2. We identify which of the three common gaps it is
  • 3. You email the school's CAS coordinator with a specific question
  • 4. The student does the work; nobody else can
  • 5. If the real problem is an examined subject, we match for that

Where CAS sits in the IB Diploma Programme, and why nobody grades it

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) has three core elements alongside the six subjects: the Extended Essay (EE), Theory of Knowledge (TOK) and Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS). The EE and TOK are assessed and contribute to the Diploma score. CAS is not. It carries no marks, no grade boundaries and no examiner. It is completed rather than scored, and the judgement about whether a student has completed it is made inside the school by the CAS coordinator working with the student, not by anyone outside the building.

That single structural fact is why a Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) tutor in Mumbai cannot exist in any useful sense. Tutoring works where there is a published standard, an external assessor and a skill gap between the two. Mathematics has all three. CAS has none. The learning outcomes a student is expected to demonstrate are set out in the current IB documentation and interpreted by each school's own CAS handbook, which differs between Mumbai schools in how evidence is recorded, how often reflections are due and what the coordinator wants to see at each review. Your coordinator is the only correct source for your school's version. Not us, and not a tutor selling sessions.

The three strands are deliberately broad. Creativity covers the arts and anything genuinely creative the student initiates. Activity covers physical exertion, which in practice for a Mumbai student means sport, dance, swimming, trekking or training of some kind. Service covers work with and for a community, undertaken through channels the school approves. There is also a CAS project, a longer collaborative undertaking, and a series of interviews or reviews with the coordinator across the DP. All of it is logged as a portfolio of evidence and reflection, and all of it must be the student's.

A student arriving from the Middle Years Programme (MYP) has usually done service as action and finds the shape familiar. A student arriving from a state or national board at the end of Class 10 often has never been asked to initiate anything, and that, not a missing tutor, is the actual difficulty in DP1.

  • CAS is a core element of the DP, alongside the Extended Essay and TOK
  • It carries no marks, no grade boundaries and no external examiner
  • Completion is judged inside the school by the CAS coordinator
  • Creativity, Activity and Service, plus a collaborative CAS project
  • Your school's CAS handbook is the only correct source for its rules

Is there a CAS syllabus a tutor could teach?

There is not, and this is the whole argument on one line. Every examined DP subject has a guide that lists content, skills and assessment criteria, which is what makes tutoring it possible: a tutor reads the same document the teacher reads, finds the gap, and teaches into it. CAS has no content list because the content is the student's own choices. Two students at the same school in Bandra can both complete CAS having done nothing in common, one through classical dance and coaching younger swimmers, the other through learning the guitar badly and a long project with her class group. Neither path is more correct. A tutor has no standard to teach to.

What CAS does ask for is reflection, and reflection is the part families most often try to buy. A reflection is not an essay about an activity. It is the student saying what she expected, what actually happened, what she got wrong, what she found hard and what she would do differently. The value is entirely in the fact that she wrote it. A fluent paragraph produced by an adult is worth less than three honest clumsy sentences by a sixteen-year-old, and the coordinator who has interviewed her twice will hear the difference immediately, because the interview is a conversation about her own experiences.

The portfolio of evidence is similarly misunderstood. Parents imagine a document that has to be beautiful. The coordinator wants it to be true and current: photographs with dates, a supervisor's note, a training log, a rehearsal schedule, the messy proof that a thing happened when it is claimed to have happened. None of that requires tutoring. It requires somebody in the house noticing on a Sunday evening that nothing was logged this week.

The CAS project is the one piece that genuinely benefits from an adult asking good questions, and the adult who should be asking them is the coordinator, who knows which projects have worked at that school and which collapsed in the monsoon.

  • No content list, no criteria grid, no external assessor to teach towards
  • Two students can complete CAS with nothing in common
  • Reflections are valuable only because the student wrote them
  • Evidence needs to be dated and current, not polished
  • The CAS project question belongs to the coordinator, not a tutor

Across Mumbai: what shapes a CAS commitment where you live

Nobody needs an IB DP CAS tutor in Mumbai anywhere in the city, but where you live does change what a two-year commitment can realistically be, and that is worth thinking about in DP1 rather than DP2. In the Eastern Suburbs, families in Chembur, Wadala, Govandi, Vikhroli, Bhandup and Mulund have the Eastern Freeway and the Chembur to Wadala Monorail, which makes a commitment near the student's own school or society far more sustainable than one that needs a parent to drive twice a week. Mulund and Bhandup students on the Central Line can hold a Thursday evening activity near the station for two years; the same activity in Lower Parel will quietly die in July.

Thane is the clearest example of geography setting the schedule. A student living near Pokhran Road or Majiwada can keep something going at Kasarvadavali if it is at a weekend and will lose it if it is at 6pm on a weekday, because Ghodbunder Road turns a twenty-minute run into an hour. Navi Mumbai is kinder: the nodes mean a Nerul, Belapur, Kharghar or Panvel student has most things within a short run along Palm Beach Road or the Sion-Panvel Highway, and the Belapur to Pendhar metro and the Harbour Line give an older teenager genuine independence, which matters for CAS because a commitment a parent has to chauffeur is a commitment a parent partly owns.

In South Mumbai, Colaba, Cuffe Parade, Churchgate, Walkeshwar, Tardeo, Worli and Peddar Road are close together and slow to cross at the wrong hour; the Coastal Road has helped the Worli leg and the Peddar Road signals have not changed. Metro Line 3 from Cuffe Parade towards the Bandra Kurla Complex has made a school-linked commitment in BKC newly realistic for an island-city student. The Western Suburbs, from Bandra and Khar through Santacruz, Juhu, Andheri, Oshiwara, Goregaon, Malad, Kandivali, Borivali and Dahisar, work along the Western Line and Metro Lines 2A and 7 rather than across the Western Express Highway. In the Central Suburbs, Kurla, Ghatkopar, Vikhroli, Chandivali and Powai sit on the Central Line and the Eastern Express Highway, with Powai reached over JVLR because it has no station of its own.

Mumbai, Maharashtra also has a monsoon, and this is the planning point almost every family misses. An outdoor commitment started in October is tested in June. Decide in DP1 what happens to it in the rain, or it stops and the reflections stop with it. If you want an IB home tutor in Mumbai for the examined subjects, the same travel logic applies, and we match within the zone for exactly that reason.

  • Eastern Suburbs: Chembur, Wadala, Govandi, Vikhroli, Bhandup, Mulund
  • Thane: Pokhran Road, Majiwada, Ghodbunder Road, Kasarvadavali
  • Navi Mumbai: Vashi, Nerul, Belapur, Kharghar, Panvel
  • South Mumbai: Colaba, Cuffe Parade, Worli, Tardeo, Walkeshwar
  • Western Suburbs: Bandra, Khar, Juhu, Andheri, Malad, Borivali, Dahisar
  • Central Suburbs: Powai, Chandivali, Ghatkopar, Kurla, Vikhroli

How Mumbai school calendars shape the CAS timeline

Every IB school in the city runs CAS to its own handbook, and the handbooks differ in detail while agreeing on rhythm. Dhirubhai Ambani International School, the American School of Bombay and Ascend International School in the Bandra Kurla Complex, Ecole Mondiale World School, Jamnabai Narsee International School and Utpal Shanghvi Global School in Juhu, Oberoi International School off JVLR, Aditya Birla World Academy in Tardeo, B.D. Somani International School in Cuffe Parade, the Cathedral and John Connon School in Fort, Bombay International School at Babulnath, Hiranandani Foundation School in Powai, NES International School in Mulund West, the JBCN International School campuses in Parel, Borivali, Oshiwara and Chembur, Singapore International School in Dahisar East, Thakur International School in Kandivali East and D.Y. Patil International School in Nerul all hold coordinator reviews at their own intervals. Ask yours for the dates and put them in the family calendar.

The rhythm looks like this. Early DP1 is when commitments are chosen and approved, and it is the cheapest time to get CAS right, because a well-chosen commitment then runs for two years with no further decisions. The months after the first big round of internal assessments are when the first reflections are due and when students discover that logging something three months late is harder than logging it the same evening. The stretch from the Diwali break into the new year in DP2 is where CAS collides with final Internal Assessment drafts, the Extended Essay and mock examinations, and it is the point at which students who have kept evidence weekly simply carry on while students who have not start to panic.

The last part of DP2 is the dangerous one. A coordinator cannot sign off outcomes that were never demonstrated, and no amount of writing in March fixes a year in which nothing happened. What a coordinator can often do, if asked early enough, is help a student recognise outcomes in things she was already doing and did not think counted, or agree a realistic adjustment. That conversation works in November and barely works in February.

IB Gram is an independent platform and is not affiliated with any school named on this page, nor with the International Baccalaureate organisation. We name these schools because their calendars are what a Mumbai family is planning around. We also do not guarantee grades in the subjects we do arrange tutoring for.

  • Early DP1: commitments chosen and approved, the cheapest time to get it right
  • First reflection round: the habit either forms or does not
  • Diwali to the new year in DP2: CAS collides with IAs, the EE and mocks
  • Late DP2: a coordinator cannot sign off what never happened
  • Ask your school for its own CAS review dates in writing

Home tuition, online and hybrid: what we do offer Mumbai families

Because people arrive on this page searching for an IB DP CAS tutor in Mumbai, it is worth being clear about what IB Gram actually arranges, and about the fact that none of it is CAS. Home tuition is our lead service: an IB home tutor in Mumbai who comes to your flat for Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Economics, Business Management, English or a Group 2 language. IB home tuition in Mumbai suits examined subjects precisely because those subjects have a guide, criteria and papers, so there is something a tutor can teach and something a parent can check. We will not sell Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) home classes Mumbai parents sometimes ask for, because there is no lesson to deliver.

Online tutoring is the better option for scarce subjects. An IB online tutor in Mumbai for Film, Music, Global Politics or a less common language is often worth more than a nearby generalist, and screen sharing is fine for the work those subjects need. Hybrid is what long engagements settle into: a tutor at home for the sessions where paper and working-out matter, short online check-ins in between. For a Mulund or Bhandup family that avoids two crossings of the Eastern Express Highway a week.

There is one honest adjacency. If a DP2 student's CAS has been neglected because her subject work is out of control, fixing the subject work frees the time and the attention CAS needs. That is a legitimate thing to hire a tutor for, and it is the only route by which tutoring helps CAS at all. It helps indirectly, by removing the reason the student stopped.

What no mode changes is the boundary. Nobody we match, at your dining table or on a screen, will write a reflection, assemble a portfolio, invent evidence, sit in on a coordinator interview or coach a student on what to say in one. If a tutor from anywhere offers any of that, the offer should be refused on the spot, and the coordinator should be told.

  • Home tuition: examined DP subjects, in your flat, across all six zones
  • Online: the sensible answer for scarce subjects and specialist criteria
  • Hybrid: home sessions for working-out, short online check-ins between
  • Fixing a collapsing subject grade is the only indirect help with CAS
  • No mode includes writing reflections or assembling evidence

How are IB home tutors in Mumbai checked, and what should you refuse?

Tutors on the platform are interviewed before any family meets them, their identity and claimed qualifications are verified, references are taken where they have worked with a school or an institute, and they are cleared subject by subject rather than being allowed to list every group in the Diploma. For a page about CAS the relevant part of that screening is narrow and absolute: a tutor who tells us they can handle CAS portfolios and reflections does not get onto the platform. That answer tells us they either do not understand the programme or do not care what the rules are, and both are disqualifying.

What you should check yourself is simpler than it sounds, and it is mostly about listening for the offer nobody should make. Be wary of anyone who says they can get CAS signed off, who talks about templates for reflections, who offers to produce certificates or letters confirming hours, or who promises a specific grade in any examined subject. Be wary of a tutor who offers a guaranteed grade, and be equally wary of one who says the coordinator will not check. Coordinators check, and they do it by talking to the student.

Anyone offering to produce CAS reflections or CAS evidence should be refused, and you should say why out loud in front of your child, because the lesson in that moment is worth more than the session you cancelled. A fabricated portfolio is not a shortcut, it is a declaration in your child's name about things she did not do, made by an adult she was told to trust. The student is the one who carries that if it unravels in an interview.

IB Gram is an independent platform, not affiliated with any school, and we do not guarantee grades. We also do not charge for the conversation on this page. Telling a parent they do not need to hire anybody is part of the job.

  • Identity and qualifications verified; clearance is subject by subject
  • Anyone claiming to handle CAS portfolios is rejected at interview
  • Be wary of templates, certificates of hours or signed-off CAS claims
  • Refuse any offer to produce reflections or evidence, and tell the coordinator
  • Say no in front of your child, and say why

Why should nobody be paid to tutor CAS?

Because there is nothing to buy, and because the thing being sold is usually the student's authorship. Take the three offers a Mumbai family actually encounters. The first is a tutor who will meet weekly to talk about CAS. That is a paid conversation about your child's own hobbies, which your child could have with you for nothing and with her coordinator for nothing and more usefully. The second is a tutor who will help with the reflections, which in practice means drafting them, correcting them into adult prose, or supplying a structure the student fills in. The third is an agency that will arrange activities and provide documentation. All three are the same transaction wearing different clothes, and in two of them the paperwork ends up describing a student who does not exist.

The honest version of what families are feeling is fear, not laziness. A DP2 parent watching a coordinator's email about incomplete CAS is frightened that a Diploma is at risk, and a frightened parent will pay somebody who sounds confident. So here is the reassuring part: CAS incompleteness is almost always recoverable through the school, early, by the student, and it is recoverable without money. The coordinator's interest is in the student completing, not in catching her out. A student who goes in and says honestly that she has done things but logged none of them will usually be shown how to evidence what already happened. A student whose parent hires a stranger to produce a portfolio has converted a scheduling failure into an honesty problem.

One trap deserves naming on its own. Do not go and arrange a service placement or a project with an outside organisation yourself, independently of the school. This is not a rule about paperwork, it is about safeguarding: the school vets where its students go, who supervises them and what the arrangements are, and that vetting exists because a sixteen-year-old is going somewhere unfamiliar with adults nobody has checked. Take any idea, however good, to the coordinator first and let the school set it up. The same applies to anything a tutor or an agency proposes.

Parents search IB tutors near me Mumbai and reasonably assume that anything hard has a tutor attached to it. For this one, no. There is no best IB tutor in Mumbai for CAS because the category is empty, and a Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) IB Diploma Programme (DP), Years 1-2 tutor Mumbai agencies advertise is selling either a conversation you can have free or a document your child should not submit. We do not tutor CAS, we will not quote for it, and we will tell you the same thing on the phone that this page tells you.

  • The weekly CAS session is a paid conversation you can have for nothing
  • Reflection help in practice means an adult writing or shaping it
  • Agencies supplying activities and paperwork describe a student who does not exist
  • CAS gaps are recoverable through the school, early, by the student
  • Never arrange an outside placement yourself; safeguarding runs through the coordinator

The final-term trap, and what honest progress looks like

The trap is simple and it catches good students. CAS has no weekly deadline that bites, so it loses every contest with a Physics test on Friday. Nothing bad happens for a term. Then nothing bad happens for a second term. The student is still doing things, she just is not logging them or reflecting on them, and because the activities are real she feels fine. In the final term the coordinator asks for evidence of outcomes across the two years and there is a folder with four photographs in it. The activities happened; the record did not. That is the commonest CAS failure in Mumbai schools and it is a record-keeping failure, not an effort failure.

The fix is a habit, and the measure of progress is the habit rather than any document. At four weeks what should have changed is that something gets logged every week, in two minutes, on a phone, the same evening: a photograph with a date, one sentence about what happened, a supervisor's name. At one term the student should be able to open her portfolio and find a continuous trail rather than three clusters around review dates. By one full examination cycle the trail is long enough that the coordinator interview becomes easy, because she is describing things she wrote down while she remembered them.

The limits are worth stating. Nobody outside the school can tell you that your child's CAS is complete; only the coordinator can. Nobody can recover a year of unrecorded experience from memory with any honesty. And a student who has genuinely done nothing in two years cannot be rescued in March by anybody, at any price, which is precisely why the useful month for this conversation is in DP1.

If a household wants one thing to change after reading this page, make it the Sunday evening question: what did you do this week, and did you write it down? That is worth more than anything an IB private tutor Mumbai agencies would bill you for, and it costs nothing. IB tuition fees in Mumbai should never contain a line for CAS.

  • CAS has no weekly deadline, so it loses to every test
  • The commonest failure is unrecorded activity, not inactivity
  • Four weeks: something logged weekly, the same evening, in two minutes
  • One term: a continuous trail instead of clusters around review dates
  • Only the school's coordinator can confirm completion

What to do instead of hiring a CAS tutor in Mumbai

Do three things this week, none of which involve us. Email your school's CAS coordinator and ask for the current status in specific terms: which outcomes are evidenced, which are not, and what the next review date is. Sit with your child and open the portfolio together once, without editing anything, so you both know what is actually in there. Then agree the Sunday habit and keep it for a month. A family that does those three things does not need a CAS tutor, and anyone who tells you otherwise wants the booking.

If your child is in DP1, add a fourth. Look at the commitments she has chosen and ask one question about each: can this survive June, exams and a bad week? A commitment near home or near school on a fixed day survives. One that needs a parent to drive across Mumbai at 6pm does not, and when it stops the reflections stop with it. Choose for durability in DP1 and CAS mostly runs itself for two years.

There is one request we do take. If the reason CAS has slipped is that an examined subject has gone badly wrong and the student is spending every evening firefighting, write to us about that subject. Tell us the subject, the level, where she is struggling and which evenings she is free, and you will get two or three tutors with the subject taught, the zone they work in and the slots they genuinely have. The first session is a trial and a swap costs nothing. A home tutor for Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) Mumbai parents ask us for does not exist on the platform, and an honest IB tutor Mumbai families keep for two years will tell them the same.

What we will never do is take money for CAS, produce a reflection, build a portfolio, confirm hours a student did not do, or arrange a placement behind the school's back. If you only remember one line from this page, remember that CAS is yours and your child's and her coordinator's, and that is not a gap in our service.

  • Email the coordinator and ask which outcomes are evidenced and which are not
  • Open the portfolio together once, without editing anything
  • Agree the Sunday logging habit and hold it for a month
  • DP1: choose commitments that survive June and a bad week
  • Write to us only about the examined subject that is actually failing
FAQs

Mumbai tutoring — questions parents ask

Do you provide a CAS tutor in Mumbai?+

No. IB Gram does not tutor Creativity, Activity, Service, and we do not take bookings or quote fees for it. CAS is completed with your school's CAS coordinator, it carries no marks and it has no syllabus, so there is nothing for a tutor to teach and nothing for one to mark. What we do arrange is home tuition and online tutoring for the examined Diploma subjects, where a published guide and real criteria exist. If a provider offers you CAS sessions, ask them what they would teach in one, and listen to how vague the answer is.

Can someone come to our home every week and run CAS sessions?+

Somebody would certainly take the money, and you should not pay it. An hour a week at your dining table discussing your daughter's own swimming, music or class project is a conversation, not a lesson, and she can have a better version of it with her coordinator for nothing. The only legitimate weekly habit is the student logging what she did while she remembers it, which takes two minutes and needs no adult present. If the person offering also mentions reflections or portfolios, that is the point to end the conversation.

A tutor offered to write my son's CAS reflections. Is that allowed?+

No, and the offer should be refused. A reflection is evidence of the student's own thinking about his own experience; written by somebody else it is a statement in his name about things he did not think. Coordinators interview students about their CAS, so an adult's prose in the portfolio and a hesitant student in the room is a conspicuous mismatch. Tell the coordinator that the offer was made, if the tutor came through any kind of agency. Then have your son write three honest clumsy sentences, which are worth more than a polished paragraph he did not write.

Is CAS graded, and can it affect the Diploma?+

CAS is not graded. It carries no marks and no grade boundaries, and no examiner outside the school looks at it. It is a completion requirement, judged by the school's CAS coordinator in consultation with the student, which is a different thing from an assessed component like the Extended Essay. Because the consequences of non-completion are handled by the school, the only person who can tell you where your child stands is the coordinator. Anyone outside the school claiming to know the status of your child's CAS, or to be able to resolve it, is guessing or selling.

Will a tutor travel to our building in Thane to help with the CAS project?+

Nobody from IB Gram will, because we do not tutor CAS at all. Separately, a weekday evening slot in Thane is the hardest kind to sustain: Ghodbunder Road at 6pm turns twenty minutes into an hour, and arrangements like that collapse by the second month even for subjects we do teach. For the CAS project itself the right adult is the coordinator, who knows which projects have worked at your school. For an examined subject in Thane, ask us and we will match within Thane rather than across the Eastern Express Highway.

What do IB tuition fees in Mumbai depend on, and would CAS ever be billed?+

CAS would never be billed by us, because we do not provide it. For examined subjects, fees depend on subject scarcity, whether the level is Higher or Standard, how far the tutor travels to you, the session length and the number of sessions you commit to. A Biology tutor in Santacruz and a Film specialist working online are different markets, so we quote after a match rather than publishing a list that would be wrong for most families. If any provider's invoice contains a CAS line, ask what was delivered.

My daughter is in DP2 and has almost no CAS evidence. What should we do now?+

Email the CAS coordinator this week and tell the truth. The usual situation is that the activities happened and were never logged, and a coordinator can often help a student evidence what already took place and recognise outcomes in things she did not think counted. That route is free, it is the correct one, and it works far better in November than in February. What makes the situation genuinely worse is hiring someone to assemble a portfolio, because a record of experiences she did not have is a problem she carries, not a fix.

Should we find her a volunteering placement ourselves to catch up?+

No. Take any idea to the school's CAS coordinator and let the school set it up. This is a safeguarding matter rather than paperwork: the school vets where students go, who supervises them and what the arrangements are, precisely because a sixteen-year-old is going somewhere unfamiliar. A placement arranged privately may also not be recognised, so you can end up with effort that does not count and no adult accountable for the setting. Bring the idea, bring the enthusiasm, and let the coordinator do the arranging.

Can an online tutor help with CAS reflections instead?+

No, and the mode changes nothing. The objection to CAS tutoring is not about travel or convenience, it is that the content belongs to the student and the judgement belongs to her school. An online session that drafts, restructures or tightens a reflection is the same transfer of authorship as one at your dining table, with a shared document as the evidence trail. We do arrange online tutoring for examined subjects, especially scarce ones like Film, Music or Global Politics, where a specialist is worth more than a nearby generalist.

We live in Powai. Who do we actually ask about CAS?+

Your school's CAS coordinator, whichever Mumbai school your child attends. For Powai families that is often Hiranandani Foundation School or a school reached over JVLR, but the answer does not change with the postcode: the coordinator holds the school's CAS handbook, sets the review dates and makes the completion judgement. Ask by email so the reply is in writing, and ask a specific question rather than a general one. Nobody in Powai, Chandivali or anywhere else in the city can give you a reliable answer about your child's CAS from outside the school.

What happens in a CAS interview or review?+

It is a conversation, not a test. The coordinator asks the student about what she has been doing, what she chose and why, what did not go to plan and what she learned, and looks at the portfolio alongside her. There is no mark at the end of it. This is also the mechanism that makes bought reflections useless: a student who did not write hers cannot discuss it fluently, and a coordinator who has taught teenagers for years notices. A student with a current, honest log finds the interview straightforward and often short.

Does CAS matter for university applications?+

It matters as part of completing the Diploma, which is what applications are built on, and admissions practice beyond that varies by country and institution, so we will not characterise what any particular university thinks. What is reliably true is that a student who has genuinely sustained a commitment for two years has something real to write about in a personal statement, and a student with a fabricated portfolio has nothing she can discuss in an interview. That difference shows up in the writing long before anyone checks the paperwork.

Find your Mumbai tutor

Email your school's CAS coordinator this week and ask which outcomes are evidenced, which are not and when the next review falls.
