IB Diploma Tutor in Mumbai

An IB diploma tutor in Mumbai is usually hired for one subject and ends up fixing a structure. The Diploma is six subjects with a compulsory core sitting on top of all of them, so a wobble in one place moves points everywhere. IB Gram matches verified IB home tutors across Mumbai and explains how the qualification is assembled before you book anything.

How IB Gram builds a shortlist for an IB Diploma tutor in Mumbai

Most enquiries arrive as a single subject name: Physics for DP1, or Economics before the February mocks. The first question a counsellor asks back is for the whole six-subject line-up with levels, because the subject that is hurting is frequently not the subject that is broken. A DP1 student in Bandra East losing marks on Higher Level Physics problems is often losing them inside the algebra, which means her Higher Level Mathematics Analysis and Approaches is the real gap and a Physics tutor on his own will keep patching symptoms for a term.

The second question is about the week. The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (DP) is a fixed-size container: six courses, three of them at Higher Level, plus the core. Adding two tutors to a week that is already full does not add learning, it adds travel and fatigue. So the shortlist is built around how many hours genuinely exist on a Tuesday evening in Chembur after school, sport and the commute, not around how many subjects feel shaky at 10pm on a Sunday.

What follows is deliberately unglamorous. Tutors are filtered on three facts: the subject, the level, and the zone. Subject and level are checked against what the tutor has taught and been assessed on, not what they are willing to attempt. IB Gram covers all IB and IGCSE subjects any tutor in Mumbai is likely to be asked for, but breadth on the platform is not breadth in one person. Zone matters because a tutor who leaves Malad at 5.30pm for a 6.30pm lesson in Kandivali East will hold that slot for two years, and one travelling from Kurla to Nerul will not.

You are sent a short shortlist, not a directory. Two or three profiles, each with the subjects and levels that tutor has taught, their availability in your zone, and what they say they would look at first. You speak to them before anything is booked.

  • 1. Send the full six-subject line-up with HL and SL levels
  • 2. Share the latest DP1 report card and one marked assignment
  • 3. We shortlist tutors who have taught that subject at that level
  • 4. You speak to one or two shortlisted tutors before deciding
  • 5. First session is diagnostic and the tutor writes back
  • 6. Four-session review against the report card, not against a feeling

How is the IB Diploma actually built?

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (DP) is six subjects studied over two years, three at Higher Level (HL) and three at Standard Level (SL), with a compulsory core sitting on top of all six. Each of the six subjects is graded from 1 to 7, giving 42 points, and the core contributes up to 3 more, for a maximum of 45.

The six are not chosen freely. They are drawn one each from the subject groups: studies in language and literature, language acquisition, individuals and societies, sciences, and mathematics, with the sixth taken from the arts or, more commonly in Mumbai, as a second subject from one of the earlier groups. A student at Jamnabai Narsee International School who takes a second science instead of Visual Arts has made a structural decision rather than a preference one, because it changes which papers land in the same examination week and which skills are being asked for twice.

The core is three elements: Theory of Knowledge (TOK), the Extended Essay (EE) and Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS). Two of them, TOK and the EE, are graded A to E and combined in a matrix that awards between 0 and 3 points. CAS is not graded but must be completed for the Diploma to be awarded. The point worth holding on to is that the core is not a seventh subject sitting politely at the end. It runs alongside all six for two years and draws on the same evenings.

There is also a second way to sit IB courses. A student can register as a course candidate and take individual subjects, receiving certificates for them rather than the Diploma: no core, no aggregate out of 45, no minimum total. Some Mumbai families move to this route in DP2 when the full structure has stopped being workable, and some universities abroad accept certificates while many do not. It is a real option and a serious one, which is why it belongs in a conversation with the school's DP coordinator before a tutor is hired.

  • Six subjects: one from each group, three at HL and three at SL
  • Each subject graded 1 to 7, so six subjects give 42 points
  • TOK and the Extended Essay together add 0 to 3 points
  • CAS is ungraded but compulsory for the Diploma to be awarded
  • Course candidates take single subjects and receive certificates instead

What three Higher Level subjects actually demand

Higher Level is not Standard Level with extra homework. HL courses are built for roughly 240 teaching hours against about 150 at SL, and the extra time buys extra content, an additional paper in several subjects, and a different kind of question. HL Mathematics Analysis and Approaches adds Paper 3, a long problem-solving paper in which two or three unfamiliar situations are developed over several parts, and no quantity of drilled SL-style questions prepares a student for it.

The pattern repeats across the groups. HL Physics and HL Chemistry carry additional topics and a longer extended-response paper. HL English A Literature requires more texts and sits a comparative essay that SL does not. HL History adds a third paper on a regional option and expects historiography rather than narrative. HL Economics asks for evaluation inside every long answer. Each of those is a different skill, and a DP1 student who picked three HLs because they were the three she liked can find herself writing three unrelated kinds of essay in the same fortnight.

Most DP1 students in Mumbai arrive from IGCSE or from the Middle Years Programme (MYP), and the handover is uneven. A student who sat IGCSE Mathematics at Extended tier has already met quadratics, functions and the beginnings of calculus and can stand up in HL Mathematics Analysis and Approaches. A Core tier candidate has not, and the first six weeks of DP1 quietly decide whether that gap closes or compounds. The same holds in the sciences: Coordinated Sciences at IGCSE is a thinner base for HL Biology than separate Biology was.

Every one of the six subjects also carries an internally assessed component, and the weightings differ, counting for a larger share of the final grade in the sciences and in Visual Arts than in Mathematics. For this page the relevant fact is structural: six subjects means six internal components with six separate sets of criteria, marked by six different teachers, and they do not arrive spaced out across the year.

  • HL runs about 240 teaching hours; SL about 150
  • HL Mathematics Analysis and Approaches adds Paper 3, a long problem paper
  • HL History adds a third paper and expects historiography, not narrative
  • IGCSE Extended tier Mathematics maps onto HL Analysis and Approaches; Core tier does not
  • Six subjects means six internal components with six different criteria sets

Where IB Diploma home tuition runs across Mumbai

Parents type "IB tutors near me in Mumbai" and mean something practical: a tutor whose commute does not eat the lesson. Coverage is therefore organised by zone, because traffic rather than distance decides whether a weekly slot survives to March. An IB Diploma home tutor in Mumbai is matched inside your zone wherever possible, and across a zone boundary only when the subject is scarce enough to justify the journey.

In South Mumbai the distances are short and the clock is not: a tutor crossing from Worli to Colaba covers eight kilometres and can still lose forty minutes to the Peddar Road and Haji Ali signals at 6pm. Families in Cuffe Parade, Churchgate, Breach Candy, Walkeshwar and Colaba are matched within the island, using the Western Line out of Churchgate, the Harbour Line from CSMT, Metro Line 3 between Cuffe Parade and BKC, and the Coastal Road. The Western Suburbs are linear instead: Bandra, Khar West, Santacruz, Juhu, Andheri, Goregaon, Malad, Kandivali and Borivali sit along the Western Line and the Western Express Highway, with Metro Line 1 running from Versova to Ghatkopar and Metro Lines 2A and 7 covering the Dahisar to Andheri stretch. Matching along the line works; matching across it at 6pm does not.

The Central Suburbs run on the Central Line and the Eastern Express Highway, with Powai and Chandivali hanging off JVLR in between. Powai is the exception worth knowing about: it is physically central and has no station of its own, so a tutor reaches Hiranandani Gardens by road from Andheri East, Kanjurmarg or Ghatkopar, and the Santacruz Chembur Link Road is the route in from the western side. The Eastern Suburbs stretch from Chembur and Govandi through Vikhroli and Bhandup up to Mulund on the Central and Harbour lines, and the Eastern Freeway makes South Mumbai reachable from Chembur and Wadala far faster than the map suggests, which is the one case where a tutor from the island does hold a suburban slot.

Navi Mumbai is planned in nodes and tutoring follows the nodes: Vashi, Nerul, Belapur, Kharghar and Panvel are each a short drive from the next along Palm Beach Road and the Sion Panvel Highway, with the Harbour Line, the Trans-Harbour Line and Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1 between Belapur and Pendhar. The Atal Setu has shortened the run from the island city, but a weekday evening lesson pulled across the creek still rarely survives a full term. In Thane, Ghodbunder Road sets the timetable: Pokhran Road, Majiwada, Hiranandani Estate and Kasarvadavali are covered by Thane-based tutors on the Central and Trans-Harbour lines, with Mulund tutors crossing over occasionally.

  • South Mumbai: Cuffe Parade, Breach Candy, Walkeshwar and Worli, matched within the island
  • Western Suburbs: Bandra through to Borivali along the Western Line and the Highway
  • Central Suburbs: Powai and Chandivali reached by road off JVLR, no station
  • Eastern Suburbs: Chembur to Mulund, with the Eastern Freeway shortening the SoBo run
  • Navi Mumbai: node to node between Vashi, Nerul, Belapur, Kharghar and Panvel
  • Thane: Ghodbunder Road timing decides the slot, not the kilometres

How the Mumbai school year sits against a two-year structure

The Mumbai academic year opens in June, so DP1 begins in the monsoon and closes in March, and DP2 runs from June to the May examination session. That produces four predictable pressure points rather than one long slope, and a two-year structure is easier to manage when a family knows where they are. August and September bring the first graded work, which is usually the first honest signal about where the six subjects actually stand. October and November bring the first full reports either side of the Diwali break. January and February bring DP2 mocks with DP1 end-of-year examinations close behind. April is study leave, by which point new content coaching is already too late.

Families here deal with calendars set by their own school. Dhirubhai Ambani International School and the American School of Bombay in BKC, Ascend International School also in BKC, Ecole Mondiale World School and Jamnabai Narsee International School in Juhu, Cathedral and John Connon School in Fort, Bombay International School at Babulnath, Aditya Birla World Academy in Tardeo, B.D. Somani International School at Cuffe Parade, Hiranandani Foundation School in Powai, Oberoi International School on JVLR, NES International School in Mulund West, Smt. Sulochanadevi Singhania School in Thane and D.Y. Patil International School in Nerul all run their internal deadlines differently. IB Gram is an independent platform and is not affiliated with any of those schools, with the International Baccalaureate organisation, or with Cambridge International. Their names appear here only because their calendars set the dates a tutor has to plan around.

The collision that catches most DP1 families is the second half of January. Mock results for the year above start circulating in the same weeks that DP1 students sit their own end-of-year papers, and a parent who read "satisfactory" in an October comment suddenly sees a 4 against a subject they thought was fine. Nothing has gone wrong in those three months. The October comment was describing effort and the January grade is describing performance against boundaries, and those two things are allowed to disagree. The useful response is to look at which of the six subjects moved and which stayed flat, not to add a tutor to every one of them.

  • June start: DP1 runs June to March, DP2 June to the May session
  • August to September: first graded work, often the first honest signal
  • January to February: DP2 mocks, with DP1 end-of-year papers close behind
  • Monsoon weeks: travel slips, so agree an online fallback slot early
  • April study leave: too late for new content, useful only for papers

Should you book home classes or online lessons in Mumbai?

For most DP families the answer is home classes for the two or three subjects carrying the most weight, and online for anything else. IB home tuition in Mumbai is the lead service for a reason: a tutor in the room sees the working a student would never photograph and send, catches the step where a solution goes wrong rather than the wrong answer at the end, and occupies a slot that is harder to quietly skip.

Home tutoring costs travel, and that cost is paid by the lesson. A tutor who crosses zones for a 7pm session is tired, late or both by November, and the lesson shortens without anybody deciding that it should. This is why zone matching comes before tutor preference, and why a 6.30pm slot with a tutor in your own suburb beats an 8pm slot with a better-sounding tutor three suburbs away. Home classes also need a space: a table, a door that closes, and a parent who is not running the lesson from the next room.

An IB online tutor in Mumbai is the honest answer in specific cases rather than as a default. Online suits a short targeted session, a paper walkthrough the week before a test, and a subject where the right teacher does not live in your zone at all. It is weaker when a student needs somebody watching how she sets out a solution, and it is weaker in monsoon weeks when the link or the power drops. A tablet with a stylus and a shared document closes much of that gap; a phone screen closes none of it.

The arrangement most DP2 students in Mumbai settle on is hybrid: the weekly home session stays fixed all year, and a second shorter online session is added in the weeks before mocks and then dropped again. Keep one of the two anchored to a day and a time. A week that is half home classes and half online by negotiation turns into a week with no tuition in it.

  • Home classes first for the two or three heaviest subjects
  • Zone matching before tutor preference; travel decides whether a slot survives
  • All IB and IGCSE subjects home classes in Mumbai, matched by zone first
  • Online for scarce subjects, short pre-test sessions and monsoon weeks
  • Hybrid works when one session is fixed and the other is seasonal
  • A tablet with a stylus beats a phone for any online working

How does IB Gram check a tutor before the first session in Mumbai?

Before a tutor reaches a family's door, IB Gram verifies identity against a government photo document, checks the degree or teaching qualification being claimed, and confirms the specific IB subjects and levels that tutor has taught. Subject claims are checked against evidence rather than accepted from a form. An IB diploma tutor in Mumbai who has taught only at Standard Level is not listed for Higher Level work.

Beyond that, the platform asks for references from previous families or schools, records which board and which level each reference relates to, and sanity-checks stated availability against the zone the tutor actually lives in. A tutor listing himself as available across South Mumbai, the Western Suburbs and Thane on weekday evenings is listing an intention, not a timetable, and that gets corrected before you ever see the profile. Whether you call the result an IB private tutor in Mumbai or a home tutor, the checks behind the listing are the same.

Verification does not end at the platform, and the half-hour you spend on the phone is worth more than any badge. Ask which syllabus version the tutor is teaching, since IB subject guides are revised and a tutor working from an older guide will teach content that is no longer assessed. Ask whether they have marked work against this subject's criteria. Ask what they would do in the first four weeks, and ask what they are deliberately not going to cover yet. A tutor who cannot answer the fourth question is planning to cover everything, which means covering nothing in particular.

There is a physical side too. Register the tutor with your society office or guard as a recurring visitor in the first fortnight rather than issuing a fresh pass weekly. Hold the first session in a shared room with the door open and an adult in the flat, and keep the tutor's number saved with the gate. These are ordinary precautions, and a professional tutor expects them.

  • Government photo identity document checked before a tutor is listed
  • Degree or teaching qualification verified against the claim made
  • Subject and level confirmed separately; SL experience does not list HL
  • Ask which syllabus version and which criteria they have marked against
  • First session with the door open and an adult in the house

How do the 45 points add up, and where do they leak?

Each of the six subjects is marked out of 7, so six subjects give 42. Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay are graded A to E and combined in a matrix worth 0 to 3 points, which is where the familiar total of 45 comes from. The Diploma is awarded from 24 points upwards, provided a set of further conditions is also satisfied.

Those conditions are the part families miss, because they turn the total from a sum into a system. A grade 1 in any subject, an E in Theory of Knowledge or in the Extended Essay, too many 2s and 3s, or incomplete Creativity, Activity, Service can all stop the Diploma being awarded even when the arithmetic looks acceptable. Twenty-four points assembled as a flat spread of 4s is a safer Diploma than twenty-four points assembled as two 7s and a 2. That is a genuinely counter-intuitive fact and it reorders what a tutor should work on.

It is also the answer to the question most parents arrive with: how can a student be strong and still lose points? Because the Diploma rewards six adequate performances over two excellent ones. An IB diploma tutor in Mumbai looking at a DP1 report with a 7 in HL Economics, a 6 in English A and a 3 in SL Chemistry will usually spend the first month on Chemistry. To a student who enjoys Economics that feels like a punishment, and arithmetically it is simply correct: the Chemistry grade has four points of headroom above it and the Economics grade has none.

The Diploma behaves like a system because its six parts share one resource, which is the student's week. A subject that falls behind steals time from the other five. An hour of panic revision for Friday's Chemistry test comes out of the Mathematics practice that would have prevented next month's problem, and by DP2 that borrowing compounds. Tutoring relieves the system when it removes work from the week, by making one subject self-sufficient so the student stops bleeding evenings into it. Tutoring loads the system when it adds a third and a fourth weekly commitment to a timetable that was already full. That is the most common way a well-meant tutoring plan makes DP2 worse rather than better, and it is why the shortlist starts with how many free evenings exist.

Finally, a DP1 report card looks nothing like a percentage sheet, and reading it as one causes avoidable arguments. Subjects report a 1 to 7 grade, often with separate criterion marks for internally assessed work written as something like 5 out of 8 against criterion B. A 5 is not seventy-one per cent of anything. The 1 to 7 scale is set against grade descriptors and boundaries that differ between subjects and move between sessions, so a 5 in HL Chemistry and a 5 in SL Visual Arts are not the same distance from a 6. Read three things in order: the grade, the criterion marks underneath it, and the comment naming what the student has not yet demonstrated. The third is where a tutor actually begins.

  • Six subjects at 7 each give 42; TOK and the Extended Essay add 0 to 3
  • The Diploma is awarded from 24 points, subject to further conditions
  • A single grade 1, or an E in TOK or the EE, can block the award
  • Points move fastest where the grade is lowest, not where effort feels highest
  • A DP1 grade of 5 is not a percentage; read the criterion marks under it

What progress looks like at four weeks, one term and one exam cycle

At four weeks, do not expect a grade to have moved. Expect a diagnosis you can read: which topics are missing, which skill is weak, and what the tutor is working on first and why. Expect one visible habit change, usually in how the student sets out working or plans an essay before writing it. If after four sessions nobody can tell you what is actually wrong in specific terms, the problem is the match or the plan, not the student.

By the end of a term, somewhere around twelve to fourteen sessions, a movement of one grade band in the tutored subject is a reasonable expectation when attendance has held and the student has done the work between sessions. Two bands happens when the starting grade was depressed by a specific missing foundation rather than by general weakness, which is common in HL Mathematics and HL Chemistry. No movement at all after a full term with good attendance means the diagnosis was wrong and the plan needs rewriting rather than extending.

Across a full examination cycle the number that matters is the total, and totals move because two subjects moved, not because one did. We do not guarantee grades, and anybody who does is selling something other than teaching. The final result depends on the student's own work in an examination hall in May, on boundaries set after the session, and on components marked by people none of us will ever meet. What tutoring can honestly offer is a clearer diagnosis, a shorter path through the content, and fewer evenings lost to confusion.

When it is not working, say so early. Tell us in the week it becomes obvious rather than at the end of the month. We ask for one specific thing that is missing, which is usually a written plan or a willingness to mark against criteria, then go back to the same shortlist for a replacement so you do not re-explain the six subjects to a new person from scratch.

  • Four weeks: a written diagnosis and one visible habit change
  • One term: one grade band in the tutored subject is realistic
  • One exam cycle: the total moves because two subjects moved
  • No change after a term of good attendance means the plan was wrong
  • Replacement runs off the same shortlist, not a fresh search

Getting started with an IB Diploma home tutor in Mumbai

Have five things ready and the first conversation takes fifteen minutes instead of three calls. The six subjects with their levels. The school. Your zone and the nearest station or road. The most recent report card. One piece of marked work, ideally something the student did badly on, because a good script tells a tutor very little. Add the weekly timetable with the evenings that are genuinely free, marked honestly rather than optimistically.

The first session is diagnostic and should feel slightly unsatisfying. A tutor who spends it teaching has skipped the part that matters. Expect questions, a short piece of written work done in front of them, a look at the criterion marks on the last report, and a decision about which single subject gets attention first. You should receive a written note afterwards: what was found, what the four-week plan is, and what is being left alone for now.

Fees are quoted by the tutor and depend on level, on how scarce the subject is, on travel distance into your zone, and on session length and frequency. We will not publish a price list, because a figure that ignores those four things is a figure that gets renegotiated in week three. Ask for the rate and the travel expectation in the same sentence. A home tutor for all IB and IGCSE subjects in Mumbai does not exist as one person, so if two subjects need covering, ask whether one tutor can honestly take both or whether the second belongs online.

  • Have the six subjects, levels, school and zone ready
  • Bring the last report card and one piece of marked work
  • Say which evenings are genuinely free before asking about slots
  • Expect a written note after the first session, not a sales call
  • Fees depend on level, subject scarcity, travel distance and session length
FAQs

Mumbai tutoring — questions parents ask

What does an IB Diploma tutor in Mumbai actually do in the first month?+

In the first month the work is diagnostic and structural rather than remedial. An IB diploma tutor in Mumbai should spend the first session finding out what the student can and cannot do against the actual assessment criteria, then write down a four-week plan naming one priority subject. Expect a session or two on the mechanics other subjects depend on, usually algebra, essay structure or data handling. Expect the tutor to say which topics they are deliberately not covering yet. A month that produces a clear ordered list of what is broken has done its job even if no grade has moved.

What do IB tuition fees in Mumbai depend on?+

IB tuition fees in Mumbai depend on four things, and any figure quoted without them gets renegotiated later. Level comes first: Higher Level sessions are priced above Standard Level because the content is deeper and fewer tutors are assessed to teach it. Subject scarcity comes second, and a rare HL subject costs more than a widely taught one. Travel distance comes third, which is why an in-zone tutor is usually both cheaper and more reliable. Session length and frequency come fourth. Ask for the rate per session and the travel expectation together, because a low rate with a long commute does not hold for two years.

My son is strong in his Higher Level subjects. Why is his point total still low?+

Because the Diploma adds six subject grades, not his best three. A 7 in HL Economics and a 7 in HL Mathematics contribute 14 of a possible 42, and a 3 in an SL subject he has decided he does not care about removes four points of available headroom in a single line. The arithmetic is unsentimental: the fastest route to a higher total runs through his weakest subject, because that is where the room is. This is also why tutoring the subject he enjoys most often produces no change in the total at all, however much better those lessons feel.

Should we take the full Diploma or individual course certificates?+

That decision belongs to the school's DP coordinator rather than to a tutor, but the structural difference is worth knowing. The full Diploma requires all six subjects, the core, and the minimum total with its conditions, and is reported as one qualification out of 45. A course candidate takes individual subjects and receives certificates for them, with no core and no aggregate. Certificates are accepted by some universities and not by many others, and the choice changes what a tutor should be working on. Mumbai families usually raise it in DP2, when the full structure has stopped being workable rather than merely hard.

We live off Ghodbunder Road in Thane. Will a tutor really come to the house on a weekday evening?+

Yes, provided the tutor is based in Thane. Ghodbunder Road decides the schedule more than any other road here: the run from Thane station to Kasarvadavali takes about twenty minutes off-peak and close to an hour in the evening peak. So a tutor living near Pokhran Road or Majiwada holds a 6.30pm home tuition slot in Hiranandani Estate comfortably, and a tutor coming from Andheri does not. We match Thane homes to Thane tutors first and Mulund tutors second, and we will tell you if nobody suitable is on your side rather than promise a slot that collapses in week three.

Our society in Powai issues a gate pass for every visitor. How does that work for a weekly tutor?+

Register the tutor once as a recurring visitor instead of logging a fresh pass each week. Most Powai complexes, Hiranandani Gardens included, will add a standing weekly entry against a flat number with the resident's approval, and some keep a photo identity copy on file. Do it in the first fortnight, because the alternative is ten minutes of every lesson lost at the gate. Leave the tutor's phone number with the guard along with the slot time. If your building requires the resident to approve each entry through an app, set a recurring reminder for the hour before, since approvals from an office meeting rarely happen.

Can one home tutor handle more than one of the six subjects?+

Sometimes, and it is always worth asking. A tutor assessed in both HL Mathematics Analysis and Approaches and HL Physics can genuinely cover both, and that pairing saves a trip and an evening, which matters more in Mumbai than it sounds. The pairings that work are adjacent: Mathematics with Physics, Biology with Chemistry, Economics with Business Management, English A with another humanity. The pairings that do not work are the ones where the second subject is a stretch, and a Physics tutor offering to take on HL History is offering availability rather than expertise. Ask what they have taught and been assessed on, subject by subject.

The tutor is pleasant but three sessions in, nothing is happening. What now?+

Tell us that week rather than at the end of the month. Three sessions is enough to know whether a tutor diagnoses and plans or simply answers whatever question is in front of them. We ask you for one specific thing that is missing, usually a written plan or a willingness to mark work against criteria, and then go back to the same shortlist for a replacement. You do not restart the search or re-explain the six subjects. If the student simply did not take to the person, that is a valid reason on its own and needs no further explanation.

How do we read a DP1 report card with no percentages on it?+

Read the 1 to 7 grade, then the criterion marks underneath it, then the written comment. The grade sits against descriptors and boundaries that differ by subject, so a 5 in HL Chemistry and a 5 in SL Visual Arts are not equivalent and neither converts into a percentage. Criterion marks, written as something like 5 out of 8 for criterion B, tell you which specific skill is weak: analysis, evaluation or communication. The comment usually names what the student has not yet demonstrated, and that one sentence is the most useful line on the page for any tutor planning the next four weeks.

Is there a best IB tutor in Mumbai we should be holding out for?+

No, and holding out usually costs a term. There is no single best IB tutor in Mumbai, because fit is specific to the subject, the level, the student's actual gap and the evening that happens to be free. A tutor who is excellent with a DP2 student rebuilding HL Chemistry may be the wrong choice for a DP1 student who has not yet learned to set out working. Ask three narrower questions instead: has this tutor taught this subject at this level, can they reach your zone on the evening you have, and can they say what they would do first.

Can home tuition work on an evening when both parents are still at work?+

Yes, but agree the arrangements before the first session rather than afterwards. What matters is that an adult is in the flat, that the study space is a table in a shared room rather than a bedroom with the door shut, and that the slot does not move from week to week. The practical constraint in Mumbai is usually the commute, so 7.30pm and 8pm starts are common in the Western Suburbs and the Eastern Suburbs. Ask for a short written note after each session so you are not depending on a verbal summary relayed by a tired sixteen-year-old.

Find your Mumbai tutor

Send the six subjects with their levels, your zone and the most recent DP1 report card, and a counsellor comes back with two or three verified tutors who have taught those subjects at that level in your part of Mumbai. You speak to them before anything is booked. The first session is diagnostic, and you get a written note on what it found and what the first four weeks will cover. If the fit is wrong, say so and a replacement is arranged from the same shortlist.
