An IB crash course in Mumbai can do a few things well and several things not at all. It cannot teach two years of Higher Level content, write an Internal Assessment or replace a term that was not worked. Home tuition in a concentrated block can sharpen paper technique, timing and one stubborn topic. This page is about telling those apart.

IB + IGCSE
The enquiry almost always arrives in the same shape. A parent in Chembur or Kharghar writes that examinations are close, that the last mock was poor, and asks for an IB crash course in Mumbai covering everything. Our first reply is a set of questions rather than a shortlist, because the request as written is not a thing that can be built. Everything is six subjects plus Theory of Knowledge (TOK), and a short block spread across six subjects gives each of them a sliver of time that changes nothing in any of them.
So we narrow it before we match anyone. We ask which subject the marks are actually being lost in, which paper inside that subject, and whether the problem is content the student never learned or technique the student has never been taught. Those two diagnoses lead to completely different work. We ask for the most recent full paper the student sat, with the marks on it, not the grade summary. A Diploma Programme (DP) student who scored poorly on Physics Paper 2 because they ran out of time has a different problem from one who could not start question three, and a crash course that treats both the same is wasting the family's money.
Then we match a specialist for that one subject rather than a generalist for all of them. The tutor is briefed on the diagnosis before the first session, so the block starts with work rather than with an assessment hour the family has already paid for. Where the student needs two subjects, we usually run them as two separate short blocks in sequence rather than alternating, because alternating halves the momentum of both.
And sometimes we tell families not to book. If a student has not covered the content, an intensive block is the wrong instrument and we will say so in the first reply rather than after the invoice. Being told no by a platform that could have taken the booking is uncomfortable, but it is cheaper than a block that was never going to work.
Intensive work suits a narrow group, and being honest about the boundaries is more useful than widening them. It suits a student who has sat through the teaching, understands most of it, and is losing marks to a repeatable fault: misreading command terms, running out of time on the long paper, never showing method, answering the question they expected rather than the one printed. It suits a student who has one topic that has been wrong since DP1 and has quietly become load-bearing. It suits a student who has never sat a full paper under timed conditions and does not know what that feels like.
It does not suit a student who has not covered the content. That student needs teaching, not revision, and teaching takes time that a short block does not contain. It does not suit a student whose difficulty is organisational rather than academic, because a concentrated block does not build a habit. It does not suit a student who is already exhausted, since intensity assumes a reserve to draw on. And it does not suit a Middle Years Programme (MYP) or early International Baccalaureate (IB) student at all; there is no deadline sharp enough to justify compressing their work.
Across the boards the shape differs. A DP student at Higher Level (HL) is carrying more content and a longer paper, so a block for them concentrates on one paper rather than one subject. A Standard Level (SL) student has a narrower syllabus and a block can cover more of it proportionally. An IGCSE student under Cambridge International Education or Pearson Edexcel faces the breadth problem instead, which is a different question and one we treat separately.
If you are not sure which group your child is in, the paper tells you. Hand the student a past paper, time it, and look at where the marks stopped. A student who left whole questions blank has a content gap. A student who attempted everything and lost marks across all of it has a technique gap. The first needs a term. The second can genuinely use a block.
Most of what a concentrated block can genuinely change sits in how a paper is read and answered rather than in how much is known. Command terms are the clearest example. A DP student who writes a full page of description for a question that says evaluate has not misunderstood the content; they have answered a different question. Across Economics, Business Management, Geography, History and Biology, that single habit costs marks on every long-response paper, and it is correctable in days rather than months because the correction is a rule, not a body of knowledge.
Timing is the second. Students lose marks they could have won simply by spending twenty minutes on a six-mark question. A block that has the student sit full papers against the clock, then works backwards through where the time went, produces visible change quickly. The third is method visibility: in Mathematics Analysis and Approaches and in Physics, marks sit in working that students skip because they can do it in their head. Showing it is a trained behaviour, not a talent.
The fourth is one genuinely misunderstood topic. Most students carry one, and in a two-year programme it compounds. Logarithms in Mathematics, moles and stoichiometry in Chemistry, the difference between a shift and a movement along a curve in Economics, significant figures and uncertainties in every science Internal Assessment (IA): if the block is spent fixing one of these properly rather than skimming six topics, the family gets something real for the money.
What a block cannot do is produce coursework. An IA is a sustained piece of the student's own investigation and an Extended Essay (EE) is a longer one. A tutor can explain the criteria, read a draft and tell the student where the criterion is not met. A tutor who writes any of it has produced something the student cannot defend and which breaches academic honesty rules. Subject choice decisions, HL and SL changes and Core or Extended entry at IGCSE also sit outside a crash block: those need to be taken calmly, well before any deadline, and we are happy to talk about them separately.
A concentrated block puts a tutor in your home several times in a short window, so geography matters more than it does for a weekly slot. In Navi Mumbai we match node to node, because that is what holds: a tutor living in Nerul or Belapur can reach Vashi, Kharghar, Panvel or Airoli along Palm Beach Road or the Sion-Panvel Highway repeatedly without the journey becoming the reason sessions get rescheduled. The Atal Setu has genuinely changed the crossing from the island city, and for a short block it is occasionally worth using, which is not true of a year-long weekly booking. The Harbour Line and the Trans-Harbour Line from Thane to Vashi carry tutors who do not drive.
In the Eastern Suburbs we work the Chembur, Govandi, Vikhroli, Bhandup and Mulund West corridor along the Central and Harbour lines, with the Eastern Express Highway as the spine and the Eastern Freeway shortening Wadala and Chembur to South Mumbai far more than the distance suggests. In the Central Suburbs, Powai, Chandivali, Kurla, Ghatkopar and Kanjurmarg sit around JVLR, Metro Line 1 and the Santacruz-Chembur Link Road, and for a block of consecutive days we will not route a tutor across JVLR twice a day if we can place one nearer.
In Thane the Ghodbunder Road corridor out through Majiwada and Pokhran Road to Kasarvadavali sets the limit on how many sessions a week are realistic, and the Central Line to Kalyan brings tutors in from the east. The Western Suburbs run along the Western Line and the Western Express Highway from Bandra and Khar West through Santacruz West, Juhu, Andheri West, Goregaon East and Malad up to Borivali and Dahisar, with Metro Lines 2A and 7 making the northern stretch far more predictable than it was. In South Mumbai, Colaba, Cuffe Parade, Walkeshwar, Tardeo, Worli and Parel are served from within the island, with Metro Line 3, the Coastal Road and the Bandra-Worli Sea Link shaping who can realistically come how often.
This is also why we ask where you are in Mumbai, Maharashtra before we discuss how many sessions a block should contain. Five consecutive days is a reasonable plan in a node where the tutor lives fifteen minutes away. The same five days across two zones is a plan that becomes three days by the middle of the week.
Earlier than families think, and almost never in the last week. Intensive work needs a gap afterwards in which the student uses what changed, which means a block has value when there is still time to practise the new habit against fresh papers. A block that finishes two days before a paper has given the student information they have not yet converted into behaviour. The most useful windows in the Mumbai school calendar are the gap after mock results, when the diagnosis is fresh and there is still a term to act on, and the school breaks when nothing else is competing.
The DP calendar at Mumbai schools has predictable pressure points. October and November in DP2 stack the EE deadline against the first serious IA drafts. January and February bring school mocks at most IB schools in the city, and their results are the single best input a crash block can have. March and April carry the final internal deadlines before the May session. A block in the gap between mock results and March is working with real diagnostic data and real time. A block in late April is working with neither.
The schools themselves set the rhythm families feel. Students at Dhirubhai Ambani International School, Ecole Mondiale World School, Oberoi International School, Jamnabai Narsee International School and NES International School in Mulund West all run their own internal deadline calendars, and those calendars decide when a household is already at capacity. Booking an intensive block in the same fortnight as three internal deadlines is not intensive work, it is collision. We will ask you for the school's deadline list before agreeing dates.
There is one more timing point worth saying plainly. If a student is in genuine difficulty, meaning they are behind on content rather than on technique, the right response is a term of regular teaching, not a block. We would rather start that term in August than sell a block in April that cannot carry the load.
For intensive work, home tuition has one specific advantage that outweighs most others: the tutor can watch the student write. Technique faults are visible only in the act of producing an answer, and a tutor sitting beside a student can see the moment they skip a line of working or start writing before reading the whole question. IB home tuition in Mumbai also makes timed papers practical, because someone is physically present to hold the clock and to stop the student checking a phone. The cost is travel, and in a block that cost repeats every day.
Online changes the arithmetic. An IB online tutor in Mumbai, or a specialist sitting in another city entirely, becomes available for a subject where local supply is thin: HL Further Mathematics, a Group 2 language outside the common ones, Music or Film at Higher Level. For a short block that specialism usually matters more than physical presence. The honest trade is that the tutor sees only what the student shares, so timed work must be scanned and sent, and a student who drifts is harder to catch.
Hybrid is what most intensive blocks end up being. The first session in person, because that is where the diagnosis happens and where the tutor learns how this student writes under pressure. The middle sessions online, which removes travel and lets the block run on consecutive days without anyone crossing the Western Express Highway five times. The final session in person, to go through a full timed paper together with both people looking at the same sheet of paper.
Families typing IB tutors near me in Mumbai are usually right that proximity matters, but for a block it matters for a particular reason: consecutive days. A tutor twenty minutes away can run five days. A tutor across the city can run three before something gives. If the specialist you need is far away, run it online rather than running it badly.
We verify identity against government photo identification and qualifications against documents, and for intensive work we add a check that matters more than either: recent, specific experience of the paper in question. An IB private tutor Mumbai families rate highly for DP1 teaching is not necessarily the right person to rebuild Paper 3 technique, and a tutor who last worked with a syllabus two specification cycles ago will be drilling content that has moved. We ask which papers they have prepared students for, in which recent sessions, and how they mark.
IB Gram is an independent platform and is not affiliated with Dhirubhai Ambani International School, Ecole Mondiale World School, Oberoi International School, NES International School, the International Baccalaureate organisation, Cambridge International Education or Pearson Edexcel. Schools appear on this page only as local context for the calendar pressures Mumbai families live with. No tutor here represents a school or an examination board, and any tutor who implies privileged knowledge of a live paper should be reported to us and removed.
Then there is what you should check yourself, and before an intensive booking it is worth being blunt. Ask the tutor what they will not attempt in the time available. A tutor who says they can cover the whole HL syllabus in a week is either misunderstanding the request or telling you what you want to hear, and both are reasons to pass. Ask what the student will have produced by the end: which papers sat, which marked, which errors logged. Ask what they will do if the diagnosis in session one turns out to be wrong.
Ask about the mark scheme too. A tutor who marks against the published scheme and shows the student the scheme is teaching them to self-assess. A tutor who marks by feel and hands back a number is teaching them nothing they can use in the examination hall.
It cannot teach two years of Higher Level content. This is the claim that sells intensive courses and it is not true in any subject. HL Chemistry, HL Mathematics and HL History each represent several hundred hours of teaching, and no compression of those hours into a handful of days produces a student who knows the material. What compression produces is familiarity, which feels like knowledge from the inside and collapses the moment an unfamiliar question is asked. It cannot write an Internal Assessment, and any arrangement in which a tutor produces coursework puts the student's diploma at risk rather than helping it. It cannot replace a term that was not worked, because the work of a term is cumulative and the gaps left by missing it are structural rather than local.
It also cannot make a student who is behind feel better in any durable way, and this is the risk families underestimate. A block creates a strong sensation of having done something. Four long days of concentrated work leave a student tired, busy and reassured, and that reassurance is not correlated with readiness. A student can leave an intensive block having been shown twelve topics and able to reproduce none of them unaided. The only defence against this is output: if the student has not written answers, under time, that someone has marked, they have not been tested and neither has the course.
Anyone advertising an IB crash course in Mumbai that will lift a grade is selling something they cannot deliver. Grades depend on what the student knows, on which questions appear, on the work done between now and the paper, and on the standard of the whole cohort that session. We do not guarantee grades, and we would be suspicious of anyone in this market who does. What we can describe is work: papers sat, errors identified, technique changed, one topic properly fixed. Whether that converts into a different number is not in anyone's gift.
So what does work. One subject rather than six, because a block divided six ways is six token gestures. Paper technique and timing, because these are rules and rules transfer quickly. One specific topic that has been wrong since DP1, fixed properly with the prerequisites underneath it. Learning to read command terms, which is the cheapest marks-per-hour available anywhere in the Diploma. And sitting full papers under conditions and then reviewing them line by line against the scheme, which is the single activity that most reliably changes how a student performs. Notice that all five are narrow. That narrowness is the whole point, and the reason a course advertised as covering everything is advertising its own failure.
A student in genuine difficulty needs a term, not a week. If your child is behind on content across multiple subjects, the honest recommendation is regular home tuition from now until the examination, starting with the subject that is furthest behind, and no intensive block at all. That is slower, less dramatic and considerably more likely to help. We will say this even when a block would have been the easier sale.
Five questions, and the answers tell you almost everything. First, how many subjects does this cover; if the answer is more than two, the course is a timetable rather than a plan. Second, what will my child have produced by the last day; a specific list of papers sat and marked is the right answer, and a description of topics covered is not. Third, what happens if the diagnosis is wrong. Fourth, who is teaching it and which papers have they prepared students for recently. Fifth, what will you not attempt. A provider who cannot name a limit has not thought about the work.
On what it costs: IB tuition fees in Mumbai move with board and level, since HL work and the longer papers demand a scarcer tutor than SL or MYP work. They move with subject scarcity, which is why a block in HL Further Mathematics or a less common Group 2 language prices differently from one in Business Management. They move with travel distance, which in a consecutive-day block multiplies. They move with session length and the number of sessions. A block is not cheap per hour precisely because it is compressed, and compression is the thing you should be most sceptical about buying.
What progress looks like is worth setting out honestly across three horizons, because an intensive block only occupies the first. At four weeks, whether through a block or regular sessions, you should see named errors rather than a general sense of improvement, and homework actually attempted. At one term, you should see measurable movement in the specific paper that was targeted. At one full examination cycle you can judge, because the student has sat something comparable under the same conditions. An intensive block can move the first of these and contribute to the second. It cannot deliver the third on its own.
If the tutor is not right, say so early and we will change them without you repeating the diagnosis. In a short block this matters more than usual, because there is no time to wait and see. Tell us after the first session if the tutor is teaching rather than diagnosing, or if your child has not written anything. We would rather replace a tutor on day two than have you sit through a block you have already lost faith in.
To get a useful answer from us, send four things: the most recent full paper with the marks visible, the subject and level, the school's deadline calendar for the next two months, and your honest sense of whether the student has covered the content or not. That last one is the question everything turns on, and parents are usually right about it when asked directly. Families searching for an IB crash course in Mumbai often have the answer already and are hoping to be told otherwise.
What we send back is one of three replies. A block, with a named subject, a named paper and a stated limit on what it will attempt. A term of regular home tuition instead, if the gap is content rather than technique. Or a short diagnostic session first, if the paper does not make the diagnosis clear. We run all IB and IGCSE subjects home classes Mumbai families ask for, and we would rather place a student in the right one of those three than in the one that was requested.
The first session of a block is diagnostic and productive at once. The student sits a timed section while the tutor watches, the tutor marks it against the published scheme in front of them, and together they write down the three errors that will be the work of the block. By the end of that session the family knows exactly what is being bought. A home tutor for all IB and IGCSE subjects Mumbai parents might want is easy to arrange; deciding whether an intensive block is the right thing at all is the part worth getting right first.
No, and anyone selling an IB crash course in Mumbai on that basis is describing something that does not exist. A Higher Level Diploma subject represents two years of teaching, and no amount of compression turns that into a few days of coverage. What a short block genuinely delivers is familiarity with a lot of material, which feels like knowledge and does not behave like it under an unfamiliar question. If the content has not been covered, the student needs teaching across a term rather than revision across a week. We will tell you that in the first reply, before any booking, because finding it out in session three is expensive.
We cannot say that and nobody honestly can. We do not guarantee grades. What a block affects is specific and describable: whether the student reads command terms correctly, whether they finish the paper, whether they show method, whether one long-standing topic is now secure. Whether those changes show up as a different number depends on the questions that appear, the work done between the block and the paper, and the standard of the whole cohort in that session. Treat any provider quoting a grade uplift with suspicion. Ask them instead what the student will have produced by the last day.
Far enough that the student still has time to use what changed. A block teaches behaviours, and behaviours need repetition against fresh papers before they are reliable, so a block finishing days before a paper has handed the student information rather than habit. In practice the useful window in Mumbai runs from just after mock results through to the end of March, when the diagnosis is fresh and the term still has room in it. A block in the final days is mostly reassurance, and reassurance is not what you are paying for.
No. Three blocks in a short window is the arrangement most likely to produce nothing at all, because each one gets a fragment of attention and none builds momentum. Behind in three subjects usually means a content gap rather than a technique gap, and content gaps need regular teaching over a term, starting with the subject that is furthest behind. If a block is still the right call for one of the three, run that one properly and put the other two on weekly home tuition. We would rather arrange the slower plan than sell the dramatic one.
A tutor can explain the criteria, read a draft and tell her where a criterion is not met, and that is genuinely useful. A tutor cannot write any part of it, generate her data, or redraft her analysis, because the Internal Assessment must be her own work and submitting otherwise puts her diploma at risk. If the IA is the pressing problem, the honest answer is that a crash block is the wrong purchase; what she needs is two or three focused sessions on the criteria and her own working time. We will arrange that instead and say why.
For a consecutive-day block, no, and we will not set it up that way. That journey crosses the city and the creek, and by day three something gives: a session shortens, a session moves, or the tutor arrives unable to teach well. For Navi Mumbai blocks we match inside the nodes, so a tutor in Nerul or Belapur covers Kharghar, Vashi, Panvel and Airoli along Palm Beach Road. If the specialist you need genuinely sits in the Western Suburbs, we run the block online and keep only the first and last sessions in person.
Yes, but register it once as a recurring entry rather than nightly. Societies around Hiranandani Gardens and Chandivali will usually log a named visitor for a fixed run of dates if the resident files it with the society office in advance, which turns five separate negotiations at the gate into one form. File it before day one, not on day one. We provide the tutor's full name and identification details for the paperwork, and we ask the tutor to allow a few extra minutes on the first visit while the process settles.
It is better for some things and worse for one important thing. Online reaches specialists who are not available near you, which for a scarce Higher Level subject matters more than physical presence, and it removes travel entirely so consecutive days actually happen. What it loses is the tutor watching the student write, which is exactly where technique faults reveal themselves. The usual compromise among Mumbai families is in person for the first and last sessions, online in between, with all timed work scanned and sent so the tutor marks what the student actually produced rather than what they report.
More per hour, usually, and that is worth understanding rather than resenting. A block asks a tutor to clear consecutive days, which displaces their other commitments, and it concentrates travel into a short window. Beyond that, IB tuition fees in Mumbai respond to board and level, to how scarce the subject specialist is, to travel distance and to session length. The more useful comparison is not price per hour but what exists at the end. A term of weekly home tuition for the same money will usually produce more for a student who is behind on content.
All six zones, matched within them. In practice that means South Mumbai from Colaba and Cuffe Parade through Worli and Parel, the Western Suburbs from Bandra and Khar West up to Borivali and Dahisar, the Central Suburbs including Powai, Chandivali, Ghatkopar and Kanjurmarg, the Eastern Suburbs from Wadala and Chembur through Vikhroli to Mulund West, the Navi Mumbai nodes of Vashi, Nerul, Belapur, Kharghar and Panvel, and Thane along Pokhran Road and Ghodbunder Road. Across all IB and IGCSE subjects a tutor in Mumbai can usually be matched inside your zone, and for a block that is the only arrangement that holds.
Families ask who the best IB tutor in Mumbai would be for intensive work, and the question is the wrong shape. The tutor you want is the one who has recently prepared students for the specific paper your child is losing marks on, who marks against the published scheme and shows it, and who will tell you on day one what they are not going to attempt. Subject breadth is actively unhelpful here. An IB home tutor in Mumbai who teaches four subjects adequately is worse for a block than one who teaches a single paper extremely well.
Tell us on day two rather than at the end. In a short block there is no room to wait and see, so we treat a first-session problem as urgent: if the tutor is lecturing instead of diagnosing, or your child has not written anything under time, that is a mismatch and we change the tutor without you repeating the whole history. We keep the diagnosis, the paper and the named errors on file so the replacement starts where the first tutor stopped. If the real problem turns out to be that a block was never the right instrument, we will say that too.
Send us the latest full paper with the marks on it, the subject and level, and the school's deadline calendar for the next two months. We will reply with one of three things: a block built around a single named paper with a stated limit, a term of regular tuition if the gap is content rather than technique, or a short diagnostic session if the paper is unclear. You will know before you pay what is being attempted and, just as importantly, what is not.
