How IB Gram finds an Edexcel IGCSE Economics 4EC1 tutor in Mumbai

A request for an Edexcel IGCSE Economics 4EC1 home tutor in Mumbai is close to useless to us without three facts, so we ask for them in the first reply: which school, which year group, and which two evenings a week you can genuinely keep clear. Parents usually lead with the grade they are hoping for. We lead with the timetable, because an Economics tutor who can only offer Sunday mornings is the wrong match for a Year 11 student in Khar West whose mock week begins in the first half of January, however good that tutor is on paper.

The second thing we establish is what kind of Economics problem this actually is, and there are only two common ones. A student who cannot define opportunity cost, price elasticity or a subsidy has a vocabulary gap, and a term of steady weekly work closes it. A student who can define all three and still writes three lines in answer to a question that wanted a judgement has a writing problem wearing a subject problem's clothes. The second student does not need more content taught at her. She needs someone to put her own script next to the mark scheme and show her, line by line, which marks were sitting there untaken.

Only then do we look at people. Our IGCSE Economics tutors are sorted by board experience first and geography second, because a tutor who has taught Pearson Edexcel papers in a Mumbai classroom is worth more to a 4EC1 candidate than a nearer tutor who has only ever taught the Cambridge syllabus. If nobody inside a sensible travel radius has genuine Edexcel Economics experience, we say that plainly and offer you an online specialist instead of quietly sending a general Commerce teacher and hoping the difference does not show up in February.

The sequence below runs on days rather than weeks, and no money changes hands until you have spoken to the tutor yourself.

  • 1. You send the school, the year group and two workable weekly slots
  • 2. We shortlist two or three tutors with Pearson Edexcel Economics experience
  • 3. You speak to each shortlisted tutor yourself before anything is booked
  • 4. A paid first session runs at your home, or online if you prefer
  • 5. You tell us to continue, switch tutor, or stop there

Why the 4EC1 code matters more than the word Economics

Edexcel is Pearson's examination board and 4EC1 is the code for its International GCSE in Economics. Cambridge International Education publishes a separate Economics syllabus under its own number, with its own paper structure and its own mark scheme. The content lists overlap heavily, which is exactly why parents mix them up, and why a tutor can teach the wrong shape of answer for a whole year without anybody noticing. The syllabus code is the one piece of information that removes the ambiguity, and your school's examinations officer will confirm it in a single line.

Some IGCSE subjects force a route decision on you. Mathematics has a Foundation and a Higher tier and the tier a student is entered for caps the grade available, so the entry choice is itself a coaching question. Economics at Edexcel does not usually work that way: schools in Mumbai generally enter every candidate for the same assessment, which takes one decision off your plate and sharpens another. If everyone sits the same paper, the only variable left is how far up the mark scheme your child can write. Confirm the entry route and the current paper structure against the live Pearson specification rather than trusting a tutor's memory of an older series.

The Years 9 to 11 shape also matters when you decide when to start. Economics is frequently chosen in Year 9 by students who have never studied it, on the strength of liking Business or being good at Maths, and the first term is mostly vocabulary and diagram conventions. Year 10 carries the bulk of the content. Year 11 is technique, timed writing and past papers, and a student who arrives in Year 11 with shaky diagrams spends the year repairing foundations instead of practising answers.

One more thing worth knowing if you are looking two years ahead. A student who has done 4EC1 properly starts Diploma Programme (DP) Economics with the core mechanisms already in place, which matters because DP Economics adds real analytical weight on top of them. We place tutors for both, and a tutor who has taught the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme as well as IGCSE will usually see a Year 11 weakness faster, because they know what it turns into two years later.

  • 4EC1 is Pearson Edexcel; Cambridge publishes a separately numbered Economics syllabus
  • Confirm the code from the school's entry list, not a textbook cover
  • Year 9 builds vocabulary, Year 10 the content, Year 11 the technique
  • Ask the examinations officer which examination series your child is entered for
  • A solid 4EC1 makes Diploma Programme Economics considerably less of a shock

What does the Edexcel IGCSE Economics paper actually test?

Edexcel IGCSE Economics is assessed by written examination built around a data-response section, so a 4EC1 candidate is marked on four separable skills: defining a term precisely, drawing a diagram that is labelled correctly, explaining a chain of cause and effect, and reaching a judgement. Memorised definitions collect the opening marks and nothing above them. Check the current component structure in the Pearson subject specification before you plan a revision timetable around it.

The data-response element is where Mumbai students most often lose marks that were genuinely available to them. A source gives you a table or a short extract, and the question asks you to use it. Using it means quoting the figures, not gesturing at them. A student who writes that consumption fell has described the table; a student who writes that consumption fell from one stated figure to another while the price rose between two stated figures has used it, and only the second answer is being paid for. This is a habit, not a talent, and it takes about three supervised attempts to install.

Take a question that hands the candidate four years of petrol prices and litres sold and asks whether demand for petrol is price elastic. The marks are not inside the phrase price elastic. They are in quoting the two price figures, quoting the two quantity figures, stating the direction of each movement, naming the reason a commuter driving the Western Express Highway to work has very few substitutes, and then concluding that demand looks inelastic over this period. A student who writes only that petrol is a necessity so demand is inelastic has produced a true sentence that earns a fraction of what was on offer.

Diagrams deserve a separate mention because they are cheap marks treated carelessly. Axes labelled with price and quantity, the correct curve shifted in the correct direction, the new equilibrium marked, the original one still visible: an examiner is checking a short list. A tutor worth paying will make your child redraw a demand and supply diagram from blank paper until it is automatic, rather than admiring the one in the textbook. That is twenty minutes of a session and it pays back on every paper for two years.

  • Definitions earn the opening marks on a question and nothing above them
  • Diagrams are marked on axes, labels, the shift and the new equilibrium
  • Data-response answers must quote figures from the source, not summarise them
  • The command word sets the length: define, explain, analyse, discuss, assess
  • Evaluation needs a judgement with a reason, not a balanced list of two sides

Where Economics tutors actually sit across Mumbai, zone by zone

Economics is a scarcer tutoring subject than Mathematics or Physics across Mumbai, Maharashtra, and the scarcity is not spread evenly. When a parent asks us for an Edexcel IGCSE Economics 4EC1 tutor in Mumbai, the honest answer depends on which of six belts they live in, so it is worth saying where the supply is before you set your expectations about weekday evenings. South Mumbai is well supplied: Colaba, Cuffe Parade, Churchgate, Walkeshwar, Tardeo and Worli sit inside a short radius, reachable on the Western Line between Churchgate and Grant Road, on the Harbour Line past Dockyard Road, and increasingly on Metro Line 3 from Cuffe Parade towards BKC. Distances here are small and still slow, because the Peddar Road and Haji Ali signals eat the evening, so we match inside the island rather than bringing a tutor down from Andheri.

The Western Suburbs hold the deepest pool, for the simple reason that most of the international schools and most of the tutors live there. Bandra, Khar, Santacruz, Juhu, Andheri, Goregaon, Malad, Kandivali, Borivali and Dahisar all run along one spine: the Western Line, the Western Express Highway and Link Road, with Metro Line 1 crossing at Andheri towards Ghatkopar and Metro Lines 2A and 7 running north from Dahisar. Matching along that spine works. Matching across it does not. A Khar tutor reaches Santacruz in minutes and a Malad tutor reaches Kandivali easily, while a Bandra tutor sent to Borivali for a 6.30pm session is late by the third week. The Bandra-Worli Sea Link and the Coastal Road make the trip south far more predictable than the trip north.

The Central and Eastern Suburbs behave differently again. Powai and Chandivali hang off JVLR with no station of their own, so tutors reach Hiranandani Gardens by road from Andheri East, Kanjurmarg or Ghatkopar rather than by train. Kurla, Ghatkopar, Vikhroli, Bhandup and Mulund sit on the Central Line beside the Eastern Express Highway, while Chembur, Govandi and Wadala are served by the Harbour Line and, usefully, by the Eastern Freeway, which puts South Mumbai within genuine reach of a Chembur tutor. The Santacruz-Chembur Link Road is the one connection that lets a Western Suburbs Economics specialist take an Eastern Suburbs student at all, and it is only reliable outside peak hours.

Across the creek, Navi Mumbai is built in nodes and we match node to node: Vashi, Nerul, Belapur, Kharghar and Panvel are each a short drive from the next along Palm Beach Road and the Sion-Panvel Highway, with the Harbour Line and the Trans-Harbour Line underneath. The Atal Setu has genuinely shortened the island crossing, but a weekday evening slot that depends on it rarely survives a full term, so we keep those tutors for weekends. Thane runs west to east from the station across Pokhran Road, Majiwada and Ghodbunder Road, and that last stretch sets the whole schedule: twenty minutes to Kasarvadavali off-peak and close to an hour at 7pm. Thane tutors cover Thane; Mulund tutors sometimes cross the boundary and that is the only overlap worth planning around.

  • South Mumbai requests are matched inside the island, not brought north
  • Western Suburbs matching works along the line and fails across it
  • Powai and Chandivali are reached by road from Andheri East or Ghatkopar
  • Navi Mumbai is matched node to node: Vashi, Nerul, Belapur, Kharghar, Panvel
  • Thane timings are decided by the Ghodbunder Road run, not the distance

How the Mumbai school calendar squeezes 4EC1 revision

The academic year in Mumbai opens in June, into the monsoon, which is why the first six weeks of tutoring lose more sessions than any other stretch of the year. Families at Cathedral and John Connon School in Fort, B.D. Somani International School in Cuffe Parade and Activity High School on Peddar Road are dealing with a south Mumbai commute in standing water; families at Hiranandani Foundation School in Powai and JBCN International School, Chembur are dealing with the same thing on the Eastern Express Highway. Build a make-up slot into the week from the start and you will not spend October trying to find three missing hours.

October is the first real pressure point. School assessments land just before the Diwali break, and Economics is usually one of the subjects a Year 10 student has quietly neglected in favour of Mathematics. The break itself is the single best catch-up window in the Mumbai year, because the traffic thins, families are at home and a tutor can run two longer sessions instead of one rushed one. Students at Jamnabai Narsee International School in Juhu and Smt Sulochanadevi Singhania School in Thane come back from that break into a mock timetable, and the gap between those two events decides how the spring goes.

December and January are where IGCSE Economics gets serious. Mocks cluster there across most international schools in the city, and the marked mock script is the most useful document a new tutor can be handed. February and March are revision months with a hard edge: by then a Year 11 student at D.Y. Patil International School in Nerul or NES International School in Mulund West is juggling coursework deadlines in other subjects against Economics past papers, and something gives. Deciding in advance what gives is better than discovering it at 11pm.

Two practical notes. First, Edexcel runs more than one examination series in a year and schools choose which one to enter students for, so ask the examinations officer which series applies to your child before you build a revision plan around a date you assumed. Second, IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform and is not affiliated with any school named on this page. We name these schools because their calendars are the ones our tutors plan around, and for no other reason.

  • Monsoon weeks cost sessions; agree a make-up slot in week one
  • October assessments land immediately before the Diwali break
  • The Diwali break is the best catch-up window in the Mumbai year
  • Mocks cluster in December and January across most international schools here
  • IB Gram is independent of every school named on this page

Home tuition, online or hybrid for IGCSE Economics in Mumbai?

Start at home. For an Edexcel IGCSE Economics 4EC1 tutor in Mumbai the argument for home tuition is specific rather than sentimental: Economics marks are earned in handwriting, under time pressure, on paper, and a tutor sitting beside your child can see the pen stop. Online, a long silence looks like thinking. In the room, it is obvious within seconds that the student does not know how to begin the evaluation paragraph, and the session changes direction immediately. That is the whole case for IGCSE home tuition in Mumbai on this subject, and it is enough.

Online is a real option and on one narrow task it is better. An IGCSE online tutor in Mumbai can put the data table, the question and the mark scheme on a shared screen at the same time, highlight the figure the answer should have quoted and type the correction into the script while the student watches. No amount of paper does that as cleanly. The honest trade-offs are two: diagram work needs a tablet and stylus or a camera pointed at a page, and a tired fifteen-year-old is much easier to lose on a video call at 8pm. Our online page covers the setup properly; here it is enough to say we treat online as the right tool for drills, marking and bad weeks.

Hybrid is what most of the families we place settle into by the second month without planning to. One home session a week for written work and one shorter online session for definitions, data practice and marking is a sensible default, and it absorbs the Mumbai variables that will otherwise cost you sessions: a cancelled school bus, a flooded underpass, a tutor stuck on the Western Express Highway. Keep the home slot fixed and let the second one move.

Fees follow the mode, and this is where parents reasonably want numbers we will not invent. What IGCSE tuition fees in Mumbai depend on is a short list: the board and level, because an Edexcel specification needs board-specific experience; subject scarcity, which bites harder on Economics than on Mathematics; travel distance and the time of day, since a 6pm slot that requires crossing the Western Express Highway costs a tutor an hour of unpaid life; session length; and frequency. Timing matters too, because demand in February is not demand in July. We quote per match once we know those variables rather than publishing a rate card that would be wrong for most of the city.

  • Home tuition leads because the tutor can watch the pen stop
  • Online wins on marking: data, question and scheme on one screen
  • Hybrid keeps one fixed home session and lets the second one move
  • Fees track board, subject scarcity, travel, session length and frequency
  • A 6pm slot across the highway costs more than a 4pm one nearby

How is an IGCSE home tutor in Mumbai checked before the first visit?

Before any IGCSE home tutor in Mumbai is shortlisted for your child, we verify identity with government photo ID, verify the degree or teaching qualification claimed, take up two references with at least one from a parent rather than an institution, and hold a subject conversation about the actual specification. For an Edexcel IGCSE Economics 4EC1 tutor in Mumbai that conversation is specific: which code, which series, which components, and what they do with a weak evaluation paragraph.

The reason we insist on evidence rather than claims is that board experience is the easiest thing in this market to overstate and the hardest for a parent to test in a ten-minute phone call. An IGCSE private tutor Mumbai families have found through a neighbour may be excellent and may also have taught nothing but the state board for six years. We ask which specification, which examination series, and what the candidates' scripts looked like, and we ask them to talk through a past data-response question. Someone who has marked these papers answers in thirty seconds. Someone who has not talks about teaching philosophy.

There are three checks only you can run, and they take one session. Ask the tutor to mark a page of your child's existing Economics writing in front of you, out loud, against the published scheme. Ask what they will set as written work between sessions, because a tutor with no answer to that is planning to talk for an hour a week. And ask what they would do differently if your child were two grades below target in March rather than November, which separates the tutors with a plan from the tutors with a syllabus.

Be wary of anyone who offers a guaranteed grade, and be equally wary of anyone who will not tell you what they do not teach. IB Gram does not guarantee grades, and no honest tutor in this city will either. What a good match gives you is a weekly hour that is actually used, written work that is actually marked, and a clear-eyed read on where your child stands against the mark scheme rather than against the class.

  • Photo ID and the claimed qualification checked before any first visit
  • Board experience evidenced by specification and series, not asserted
  • Two references contacted, at least one of them a parent
  • Ask the tutor to mark your child's own writing live, aloud
  • Be wary of anyone who promises a specific grade in advance

Reading a data-response question the way an examiner reads it

An examiner marking 4EC1 is working down a list, and the student who knows the list writes differently. Read the command word before you read the source. Define wants one precise sentence. Explain wants a mechanism. Analyse wants the mechanism plus its second-round effect. Discuss and assess want both of those plus a judgement that commits to something. Students who treat every question as an invitation to write everything they know about the topic lose marks on the short questions for padding and on the long ones for never arriving at a conclusion.

Build the long answer in four moves. First, quote the data: two figures, named, with their units. Second, name the mechanism in economic language, so a fall in disposable income reduces demand for a normal good rather than people buying less. Third, carry it one step further, because the second-round effect is where the analysis marks live: lower demand reduces producer revenue, which affects employment in that industry, which feeds back into income. Fourth, judge. Say which effect dominates and say why, and the why is usually about magnitude, time or the elasticity you established earlier.

A worked example that Mumbai students find easy to hold on to. Suppose the source describes a city raising metro fares while bus fares stay flat, with ridership figures for both. A weak answer says fares rose so ridership fell. A strong answer quotes the fare change and the ridership change for the metro, quotes the bus figures as the comparator, identifies the bus as a substitute, explains that cross-price effects pushed commuters onto buses, carries it to the revenue question, and then judges: in the short run the fare rise raises revenue if demand is inelastic because the alternative is slower, while over a longer period commuters adjust and the revenue gain shrinks. Same facts, roughly the same length, a different band.

The training method that moves students fastest is also the least comfortable. The student marks her own answer against the published scheme before the tutor says anything, in a different colour, and writes the mark she thinks she earned. Then the tutor marks it. The gap between those two numbers is the actual lesson, and it closes faster than anyone expects, usually inside five attempts. A tutor who skips this and simply models good answers produces a student who recognises good answers and still cannot write one under time pressure in a hall in May.

  • Read the command word before you read the data source
  • Quote two figures with units, not a general impression of the table
  • Name the mechanism, then follow it to its second-round effect
  • Commit to a judgement and justify it on magnitude or time
  • Self-mark against the scheme before the tutor marks the same page

What should four weeks of Economics home tuition actually change?

Four weeks of Economics home classes should produce three visible changes and nothing more dramatic than that. Definitions get shorter and more exact. Diagrams get drawn from blank paper with the axes right. And answer length starts matching the command word, so the three-line answer to a question wanting a judgement stops appearing. If you cannot see those three things after a month of kept sessions and completed written work, the match is wrong and you should tell us.

One term is the horizon where evaluation appears. A student who in September wrote two sides of an argument and stopped should by December be finishing with a judgement and a reason, and should be able to look at a data table and say what she would quote before writing anything. This is the slowest of the skills to build because it is a thinking habit rather than a content gap, and it is the one that separates grade bands at IGCSE. Parents who expect it in week three are disappointed; parents who expect it in week twelve usually get it.

Across a full exam cycle, the honest statement is that mock-to-final movement happens often and is not owed to anybody. We have no interest in pretending otherwise, and IB Gram does not guarantee grades. What tuition reliably changes is the number of marks a student leaves on the table through technique: unquoted data, unlabelled axes, unanswered command words, unfinished evaluation. That is a real quantity of marks and it is recoverable with practice. What tuition cannot change is a student who will not write between sessions, and no tutor in Mumbai has solved that one.

Which brings us to the awkward conversation. If it is not working after three or four weeks, email us and the replacement starts the same week, with no fee beyond the sessions already taught and no requirement to justify the decision twice. We will ask one diagnostic question first, which is whether the problem is fit or effort. A tutor who talks through the hour, keeps moving the slot or cannot explain a mark scheme is a fit problem and a different tutor solves it. A student who has not opened the book since the last session will get the same result from anyone, and in that case we would rather fix the written work than send you a new face.

  • Four weeks: tighter definitions, correct diagrams, answers of the right length
  • One term: evaluation paragraphs that actually reach a judgement
  • One exam cycle: technique marks recovered, with no promises attached
  • No movement in four weeks with homework done means change the tutor
  • No movement with homework undone means change the homework first

Starting Economics home classes in Mumbai this month

Five things make the first session useful instead of introductory, and four of them are already in your house. The last school report, so the tutor sees the trend rather than one grade. One marked piece of your child's Economics writing, ideally a full data-response answer with the teacher's comments still on it. The school's assessment calendar for the term. The confirmed specification code from the examinations officer. And a decision about which two weekly slots you can hold for a full term rather than for a fortnight.

The first session itself should be roughly two-thirds diagnostic and one-third teaching. A tutor who has read the marked script in advance will spend twenty minutes watching your child attempt one past data-response question under time, then mark it with her, then pick the single highest-value habit to fix first. Usually that is quoting figures from the source, because it is the fastest improvement available on this specification. By the end of the hour you should have a written answer, a marked answer, and one task for the week.

Economics (4EC1) home classes Mumbai families book most often run twice a week in Year 11 and once a week in Years 9 and 10, in the early evening on weekdays or mid-morning at weekends. If you want a home tutor for Economics (4EC1) Mumbai parents have used before, say so and we will prioritise tutors with parent references from your zone. If you are the first family in your building to ask, that is fine too; it simply means the travel question gets decided on the phone rather than assumed.

A final note on expectations, because it saves everybody a month. Parents searching for the best IGCSE tutor in Mumbai are usually looking for the most qualified person available. What actually predicts progress is narrower: board-specific marking experience, a slot that survives contact with the Mumbai week, and written work that gets done and marked. An Economics (4EC1) IGCSE Years 9-11 tutor Mumbai families keep for two full years is almost always the one who was reliable rather than the one who was most impressive on the first call.

  • Bring the last report card and one marked Economics answer
  • Bring the school's assessment calendar for the current term
  • Confirm the specification code with the examinations officer first
  • Name two weekly slots you can hold for a full term
  • Decide whether anyone sits in on the first session
FAQs

Mumbai tutoring — questions parents ask

Is 4EC1 the same as Cambridge IGCSE Economics?+

No. 4EC1 is Pearson Edexcel's International GCSE Economics specification, and Cambridge International Education publishes its own separately numbered Economics syllabus. The content overlaps a great deal, which is why the confusion is so common, but the papers are set and marked differently and the command words carry different expectations. A tutor who has spent years marking Cambridge scripts will teach a shape of answer that does not collect the same marks on an Edexcel paper. So when you brief us, give us the code. If you do not know it, the school's examinations officer will tell you in one line, and the live Pearson specification confirms the current component structure.

My daughter knows every definition and still loses marks. What is going wrong?+

Almost always she is answering a long question at definition length. Edexcel IGCSE Economics pays for a chain: a cause, a consequence, a second consequence, then a judgement about which effect dominates and why. A student who writes that a price rise reduces demand has started the chain and stopped. The repair is not more content. It is sitting with one of her own past answers, the published mark scheme beside it, and marking her own writing until she can see which marks were available and were not taken. A tutor who will not run that exercise with her is the wrong tutor, however well they explain elasticity.

Can a tutor travel to Kharghar for an evening slot on a weekday?+

Yes, if the tutor is already in Navi Mumbai. A Kharghar family is well served from Belapur, Nerul, Vashi and Panvel, because the nodes are a short drive apart on Palm Beach Road and the Sion-Panvel Highway. Pulling an Economics tutor across the creek from Chembur or Wadala for a 7pm weekday session is a different proposition. The Atal Setu has made that crossing far quicker than it used to be, but it still needs a clean run and it rarely holds for a full term. For weekday evenings we match inside Navi Mumbai and keep island-city tutors for weekend slots.

Does our society need to issue a gate pass before a home tutor starts?+

Usually yes, and it is worth settling before the first session rather than at the gate. Most Mumbai societies will register a recurring visitor once a resident confirms the name, the phone number and the weekly slot, and some want a photo ID copy kept on file. Tell us your building's protocol when you book and the tutor will arrive with whatever is needed. The practical reason to get this right is continuity: a tutor who has to be argued through security every Tuesday loses ten minutes of each session and eventually loses patience with the slot.

What do IGCSE tuition fees in Mumbai depend on?+

Five variables, and none of them is a published rate. Board and level set the floor, because an Edexcel specification needs board-specific marking experience rather than general subject knowledge. Subject scarcity matters more than parents expect, and Economics tutors are thinner on the ground than Mathematics tutors in most zones. Travel distance and time of day are priced in, so a tutor crossing the Western Express Highway at 6pm costs more than one walking from the next building. Session length and frequency obviously count. Timing counts too, since February demand is not July demand. We quote per match rather than publishing a list.

How often should Edexcel IGCSE Economics sessions run each week?+

Once a week is enough for a Year 9 or Year 10 student who is keeping up, and twice is right for a Year 11 student who is behind on evaluation writing. The deciding factor is written practice between sessions rather than session count. Economics marks are earned by writing, so a student who writes nothing between one Tuesday and the next arrives having forgotten the answer structure that was fixed last week. We would rather run one session with a written task attached than two sessions with no work in between, and we will say so when you ask for three.

Does online tuition really work for a data-response subject like Economics?+

Better than for most subjects, with two caveats. A shared screen puts the data table, the question and the mark scheme in front of both people at once, and the tutor can highlight the figure that should have been quoted and correct the script while the student watches. Paper does not do that as cleanly. The caveats are diagram work, which needs a tablet and stylus or a camera aimed at a page, and attention, because a tired fifteen-year-old is easy to lose on a video call at 8pm. Most families we place start at home and move individual sessions online when a week collapses.

We live in Powai and the available Economics tutor is in Bandra. Is that commute realistic?+

For a weekday evening, probably not. Powai has no station of its own, so a Bandra tutor arrives by road along the Santacruz-Chembur Link Road or up the Western Express Highway and across JVLR, and neither is dependable after 5pm. The same trip on a Saturday morning is straightforward. Our usual answer is to match Powai and Chandivali families with tutors from Andheri East, Kanjurmarg, Ghatkopar or Powai itself, and to tell you plainly when the only genuine 4EC1 specialist in range is a weekend-only option. A reliable Saturday beats an unreliable Wednesday every term.

What happens if the tutor is not working out after three weeks?+

Email us and a replacement starts the same week. We ask one question first, which is whether the problem is fit or effort, because the remedies are different. A clash of style, a tutor who talks through the whole hour, a slot that keeps moving: those are fit problems and a different tutor fixes them quickly. A student who has not opened the book between sessions will reach the same place with anyone, and we will say that rather than quietly swapping faces. You owe nothing beyond the sessions already taught and you do not have to justify the decision twice.

My son has just picked Economics in Year 9. Is it too early for a tutor?+

Not if the aim is the right one. A Year 9 Economics student does not need exam coaching; he needs the vocabulary laid down precisely and the first diagrams drawn correctly, because a demand and supply diagram learned wrongly in Year 9 is still wrong in Year 11 and much harder to correct by then. A term of fortnightly work now is usually worth more than an intensive block in February of Year 11, and it costs considerably less. If he is coping well on his own, we will tell you to wait and come back in Year 10.

Should we start before the December mocks or wait until the results come back?+

Before, if you already know there is a problem. Mock papers are useful evidence, but a student who walks into mocks unable to structure an evaluation paragraph produces a script that confirms what you already suspected and costs a term of confidence doing it. If the Diwali break has just ended and the mock timetable is up, that fortnight is the best starting window in the Mumbai school year. If the mocks are already written, bring the marked script to the first session. It is the single most useful document a new Economics tutor can read.

Find your Mumbai tutor

Send us the school, the year group, the specification code if you have it, and two evenings you can keep free. You will hear back the same working day with two or three Economics tutors who have taught Pearson Edexcel papers, each one listed with their board experience and their realistic travel radius. You speak to them yourself, you pick one, and the first session runs at your home. Nothing is booked and nothing is charged before you have had that conversation.
