Cambridge IGCSE History (0470) Home Tutor in Mumbai

A Cambridge IGCSE History 0470 home tutor in Mumbai lives or falls on one number: how long it takes them to reach your door on a weekday. Get that wrong and the arrangement collapses by October, whatever the tutor knows. IB Gram matches on travel time first and subject fit second, because in this city the second is worthless without the first.

Matched by corridor and travel time before subject fit is even discussed
Tutors cleared for standing weekly entry at your society gate

Travel time comes first: how we match a Cambridge IGCSE History 0470 home tutor in Mumbai

Most failed tutoring arrangements in this city are transport failures wearing a subject costume. The tutor was good. The tutor also lived in Chembur and your flat is in Khar West, and for the first three weeks they made it, and in the fourth week the Santacruz-Chembur Link Road did what it does at 6.15pm, and by the seventh week the slot had moved twice and then quietly become fortnightly. So we start at the wrong end of the obvious order. Before we look at who teaches History well, we work out who can stand outside your lift at 6.55pm, every week, from August to April.

That means the first questions are logistical and slightly tedious. Which building, which corridor, which station or highway is closest. Whether the tutor would arrive by car, by rickshaw from a station, or on a two-wheeler, because a two-wheeler changes a Ghodbunder Road journey more than any other variable in Mumbai. Which evenings are genuinely free for the next eight months rather than which evenings are free in principle. And whether a 7.30am weekend slot is on the table, because for several corridors in this city a Saturday morning lesson is worth two weekday evening ones in sheer reliability.

Only then do we look at the subject, and for History that look is narrow rather than broad. We want to know which depth study the school teaches, because a tutor strong on one period is not interchangeable with a tutor strong on another. We want two marked papers, at least one with source questions on it. And we want to know whether the problem is knowledge or writing, which in History is almost never the same problem. A home tutor for History (0470) Mumbai parents keep for two years is chosen for the period and the paper, not for a general reputation.

Every Cambridge IGCSE History 0470 home tutor in Mumbai we shortlist arrives with a stated travel time to your address and the slots they will genuinely hold, and the list is never longer than three. A paid trial lesson happens at your home, which is deliberate: you learn as much from how the tutor handles your doorway, your dining table and your ten-year-old brother wandering through as you do from the teaching. After it, put the arrangement in writing. The slot, the length, what happens when either side cancels, how homework comes back, and what the four weeks before the series look like.

  • 1. Give us the building, the corridor and the nearest station or highway
  • 2. Name the evenings that survive eight months, not the ideal ones
  • 3. Send two marked papers and the depth study the school teaches
  • 4. Two or three profiles arrive with stated travel times to your door
  • 5. Trial lesson happens at your table, with the household as it normally is

Which History course is your child actually entered for?

Confirm the syllabus code with the school before you hire anyone, because Cambridge History comes in more than one form and the difference changes the whole teaching job. The IGCSE course is coded 0470. Some centres enter candidates for a differently coded variant with the same content, and there is a separate International AS and A Level History syllabus for the two years afterwards, assessed in a completely different style. One email to the examinations officer settles the code, the series and the components, and it takes less time than reading this paragraph twice.

Establish which course your child is actually entered for matters more in History than in most subjects, because the depth study decision sits inside it. 0470 offers a choice of depth studies, and different Mumbai schools teach different ones, sometimes changing between cohorts when a teacher leaves. A parent who hires a tutor expert in one period for a child studying another has bought a kind tutor and a wasted term. Ask the school which depth study is being taught this year, in writing, and send us that answer. A History (0470) IGCSE Years 9-11 tutor Mumbai families retain across the whole block will plan around that choice from the first lesson.

The other thing to check is where History sits in the option block. In many Mumbai schools it shares a block with Geography, Economics or a second language, which means a child can be pushed into or out of it for timetabling reasons that have nothing to do with aptitude. If your child is choosing options this year, ask which blocks History appears in before the form goes in. Reversing that choice after the year starts is possible in some schools and practically impossible in others.

Treat History as a writing subject with real downstream value, because that framing is what makes a reluctant fifteen-year-old take it seriously. It feeds International AS and A Level History, History in the Diploma Programme (DP) of the International Baccalaureate (IB), and undergraduate law, political science, journalism and public policy. It is a prerequisite for none of them. What it does supply is the ability to read a source, weigh it, and write a position in a paragraph, which is the skill that quietly carries a student through every essay-based subject they will ever take.

  • 0470 is the IGCSE code; get it in writing from the school
  • Ask which depth study this year's cohort is being taught
  • Depth studies change between cohorts when teaching staff change
  • History often shares an option block with Geography or Economics
  • No law or policy degree requires IGCSE History as an entry condition

Paper 1 structured questions, Paper 2 source investigation and the depth-study choice

0470 is assessed through Paper 1 structured questions, Paper 2 on source investigation, and a depth study the centre selects. For the number of components, their timings and their mark allocations, use the current Cambridge syllabus document for your child's series and ask the school's Cambridge coordinator to confirm it. Cambridge International Education revises syllabuses on its own schedule, and reproducing last cycle's figures here would do your child no favours. What is stable is the character of the assessment, and that is what a tutor can work on from the first week.

The reliable failure in Paper 1 is not ignorance. It is a child writing everything they know and answering nothing that was asked. A Year 11 student given a question about why a policy failed will often produce three accurate paragraphs of narrative about what the policy was, and score at the bottom of the band, because narrative is not explanation. The tutoring work is structural: identify the command word, decide on a position before writing, support it with specific detail, and then say why that detail supports the position. A tutor sitting beside the child can stop the pen mid-sentence at the exact moment the narrative starts. That interruption, repeated for six weeks, is most of the improvement.

Paper 2 source work is a different muscle and it is the one Mumbai students most often arrive without. The paper does not ask what the source says; it asks what the source is doing and whether you can trust it. So a student has to notice who wrote it, when, for whom, and what they stood to gain, and then use that to weigh it against another source that disagrees. The common error is a paraphrase dressed up as analysis. The fix is a worked example: take two sources that contradict each other, cover the attribution lines, let the student decide which is more reliable, then reveal the attributions and watch the answer change. Do that four times and something clicks that no amount of reading will produce.

The depth study is where a home tutor earns their keep, because depth is cumulative and it cannot be crammed. A student needs a small number of events known in real detail, with dates, names and consequences attached, rather than a wide thin coverage of everything. Building that takes a weekly conversation in which the child explains the material back without notes, gets corrected, and does it again the following week. It is also the part where the format matters: a child reciting a chronology to a tutor across the dining table, being questioned and pushed, is doing something different from a child reading notes aloud to a screen.

  • Paper 1: a position decided before writing, then detail that supports it
  • Narrative scores low; explanation of why something happened scores well
  • Paper 2: who wrote the source, when, for whom, and what they gained
  • Source drill with the attribution lines covered, then revealed
  • Depth study built by weekly explaining back without notes, then corrected

Corridor by corridor: who can reach your door across Mumbai

Mumbai, Maharashtra is sixty kilometres long and about four kilometres wide in places, which is why we match along corridors rather than across them. A tutor and a family on the same rail line or the same highway can hold a weekly slot for a full academic year. A tutor crossing the city cannot, however willing they are in week one. Below is how we read each zone when we are placing an IGCSE home tutor in Mumbai, with the specific stretches that decide whether a slot survives. Every Cambridge IGCSE History 0470 home tutor in Mumbai on our books is recorded against one of these corridors.

In South Mumbai we place tutors within the island: Churchgate, Marine Lines, Girgaon, Grant Road, Byculla, Parel, Lower Parel and Worli. Distances are tiny and the clock is not; the Peddar Road and Haji Ali signals can turn an eight-kilometre run into forty minutes after six. Tutors here use the Western Line up to Mumbai Central, the Harbour Line towards Dockyard Road, Metro Line 3 between Cuffe Parade and Bandra Kurla Complex, and the Coastal Road for the northbound leg. The Bandra-Worli Sea Link makes a Bandra-based tutor viable for Worli and for almost nowhere else on the island. In the Western Suburbs the usable pattern is north to south along the line: Khar West, Santacruz East, Juhu, Versova, Andheri East, Goregaon East, Kandivali East, Dahisar and Mira Road, served by the Western Line, the Western Express Highway, the Link Road, Metro Line 1 east from Andheri and Metro Lines 2A and 7 from Dahisar to Gundavali.

The Central Suburbs run on the Central Line and the Eastern Express Highway, with JVLR and the Santacruz-Chembur Link Road (SCLR) doing the lateral work: Kurla West, Ghatkopar East, Kanjurmarg, Chandivali and Powai. Powai is the hardest address in the city to serve in person, because it has no station of its own and every tutor arrives by road from Andheri East, Kanjurmarg or Ghatkopar, so we keep a deliberately local pool for it. The Eastern Suburbs cover Wadala East, Chembur, Govandi, Vikhroli East, Bhandup West and Mulund West on the Central and Harbour lines, and the Eastern Freeway means a Chembur tutor can reach Parel faster than a Bandra one.

Navi Mumbai is matched node to node and we rarely break that rule: Vashi, Kopar Khairane, Nerul, Belapur, Kharghar, Ulwe and Panvel, along Palm Beach Road, the Sion-Panvel Highway, the Harbour and Trans-Harbour lines, and the Navi Mumbai Metro between Belapur and Pendhar, with the Atal Setu now making Ulwe and Panvel genuinely close to the island city. Thane runs west to east from the station through Thane West, Pokhran Road, Manpada and Majiwada and out along Ghodbunder Road to Waghbil and Kasarvadavali, and that one road sets every schedule in the zone. Thane tutors cover Thane; a Mulund West tutor will sometimes cross over for a weekend slot and almost never for a Tuesday evening. Families searching IGCSE tutors near me Mumbai wide are, in practice, searching their corridor, and they are right to.

  • South Mumbai: Churchgate, Marine Lines, Girgaon, Grant Road, Byculla, Parel, Worli
  • Western Suburbs: Khar West, Santacruz East, Juhu, Versova, Andheri East, Mira Road
  • Central Suburbs: Kurla West, Ghatkopar East, Kanjurmarg, Chandivali and Powai
  • Eastern Suburbs: Wadala East, Chembur, Govandi, Vikhroli East, Bhandup West, Mulund West
  • Navi Mumbai: Vashi, Kopar Khairane, Nerul, Belapur, Kharghar, Ulwe, Panvel
  • Thane: Thane West, Pokhran Road, Manpada, Majiwada, Waghbil, Kasarvadavali

What the Mumbai school calendar does to a History student

History is the subject where falling behind is invisible for longest, and the Mumbai calendar is what eventually makes it visible. A child can carry an incomplete set of depth-study notes through two terms without anyone noticing, because the early assessments reward recall and the gap only shows up when a paper asks for sustained explanation. By the time the November or December mock exposes it, there is a fixed number of weeks left. That is why History home tuition started in August behaves completely differently from the same tutoring started in January, even with the same tutor.

The schools whose timetables come up most in our History placements include Gopi Birla Memorial School in Walkeshwar, B.D. Somani International School in Cuffe Parade, Utpal Shanghvi Global School in Juhu, Podar International School in Santacruz and Powai, Bombay Cambridge International School in Andheri East, Thakur International School in Kandivali East, Hiranandani Foundation School in Powai, JBCN International School in Parel and Chembur, NES International School in Mulund West, Smt. Sulochanadevi Singhania School in Thane and D.Y. Patil International School in Nerul. IB Gram is an independent platform and is not affiliated with any of these schools, nor with any other school mentioned on this page. We list them because their term dates and assessment weeks are the real limit on what a tutoring plan can achieve.

The pressure points are consistent year to year. The first graded History assessment of any weight lands in late September or October, and for most families that result is the trigger for the search that brought them to this page. End-of-term examinations fall in November and December, and for Year 11 those are the mocks that produce the predicted grades used by universities and by Indian admissions. January and February are brutal: mock feedback, internal deadlines in four other subjects, and revision for the series all compete for the same weekday evenings. March through May is the series itself. A tutor who starts in October has time to build depth; one who starts in February is choosing which topics to abandon.

There is a second calendar that catches transferring families. A child moving into Cambridge History from an Indian-board Social Science background arrives able to reproduce content accurately and unprepared for a paper that rewards argument, source scepticism and a position taken under time pressure. The same is true in reverse for children arriving from a British curriculum mid-block, who meet a depth study they have never studied. Both cases need six to eight weeks of specific work before any assessment will look normal, and both are easier to fix with someone physically present, because the first few weeks are about watching how the child actually writes.

  • First weighted History assessment lands in late September or October
  • Year 11 mocks in November and December set the predicted grades
  • January and February stack mock feedback against four other subjects
  • Incomplete depth-study notes stay invisible until a mock exposes them
  • Board transfers need six to eight weeks before marks look normal

Why home classes work best for IGCSE History in Mumbai

History rewards the kind of supervision that only works in a room. The core activity is a child writing continuous prose under mild pressure while someone watches the writing happen, and the most valuable intervention is an interruption at the right second: the moment the answer slides from explanation into narrative, the moment a source is paraphrased instead of weighed, the moment a paragraph starts without a position. A Cambridge IGCSE History 0470 home tutor in Mumbai sitting beside the child can stop the pen there. History (0470) home classes Mumbai families book are therefore doing something structurally different from a lesson about History, which is why we lead with this format rather than treating it as the premium option.

The second reason is the material itself. A depth study lives in a physical set of notes, and those notes are usually a mess: three notebooks, a school handout folder, some printed pages, and a shoebox of past papers. A tutor at the dining table can sort that into one working system in the first two lessons, and can see with their own eyes that the February section has four pages where it needs twenty. This is dull, high-value work and it does not happen remotely, because nobody photographs a disorganised folder honestly.

There is a third reason that parents rarely say out loud, and it is attention. A fifteen-year-old studying a subject they find dry will drift, and drift is visible in a room and invisible on a screen. In-person lessons also reach children who are younger, less organised, or quietly avoiding the subject, which describes a good proportion of IGCSE History students in Mumbai. An IGCSE private tutor Mumbai parents hire for History is usually being hired as much for accountability as for subject expertise.

The honest limits. In-person lessons are constrained by geography, which is why we match by corridor and why a parent in Kasarvadavali has a smaller pool than one in Khar West. They are vulnerable to monsoon and to traffic in a way that remote lessons are not. They cost more where travel is long, because somebody is paying for that hour. For families in the furthest corridors, IGCSE home tuition in Mumbai through the dry months and remote lessons during the monsoon is a sensible hybrid, and families who want an IGCSE online tutor in Mumbai as their main format will find that argued properly on its own page rather than half-argued here.

  • A tutor beside the child can stop the pen as narrative starts
  • Three notebooks and a handout folder get sorted into one working system
  • Drift and avoidance are visible in a room and invisible on a screen
  • Travel distance shrinks the tutor pool in the furthest corridors
  • Dry-season in-person lessons plus monsoon remote sessions is a workable hybrid

What to check at your own front door before the second lesson

Before a profile reaches you, a Cambridge IGCSE History 0470 home tutor in Mumbai has cleared four things: the qualification they claim, verified against documents rather than a CV; a government photo identity, which your society will ask for anyway; a subject teaching demonstration judged by someone who has taught the board, where most applicants are filtered out; and at least one contactable reference from a school or a family. We also record the tutor's home corridor and stated travel time, because an unrealistic travel claim is the most common cause of a match failing in month two.

Someone coming into your home deserves one more layer of your own attention, and it has nothing to do with suspicion. Note the identity details yourself at the first lesson and keep them. Tell your society office the tutor's name and the standing slot rather than letting them arrive as an unregistered visitor each week. Have the lesson in a part of the flat that is visible from the rest of it, not behind a closed bedroom door. Make it normal for someone to walk through. None of this is awkward once it is routine, and every experienced tutor expects it.

Then judge the teaching, which only you can do. Ask which depth study and which papers they have taught, and for which series. Ask what the first four lessons will cover and listen for a diagnosis rather than a tour of the syllabus. Read the first piece of marked homework yourself: comments that explain why a paragraph lost marks are worth more than a grade and a tick. Call the reference. And be wary of a tutor who offers a guaranteed grade, or who names the number of marks your child will gain, because nobody can read a script that has not been written. IB Gram does not guarantee grades and we do not permit tutors on the platform to suggest otherwise.

Finally, the money, because this is where families get hurt in ways that have nothing to do with teaching. Pay in monthly cycles at most. Never buy a discounted term package before you have seen four weeks of marked work. Keep the slot, the rate, the cancellation terms and the notice period written down even when the tutor came through a neighbour, and especially then. If a tutor asks for a term's fees in advance for an arrangement you have not tested, treat that as a reason to wait a week rather than as a saving.

  • Qualification documents, photo identity, a judged teaching demo, a live reference
  • Register the tutor with your society office as a standing weekly visitor
  • Hold lessons in a visible part of the flat, not behind a closed door
  • Read the first marked homework; comments matter more than a grade
  • Monthly payment cycles, written cancellation terms, no prepaid term packages

What does a tutor sitting beside your child notice that a screen misses?

Four things, and all of them happen in the first twenty minutes. The pen stopping, which means the student has lost the thread and is deciding whether to admit it. The eyes going to the notes before the answer, which means the material is recognised rather than known. The paragraph that starts with a date, which means no position has been decided. And the small physical tell when a question lands on a topic the child has quietly never understood. A tutor in the room reads all four without asking, and acts on them in the same minute. That immediacy is the substance of what you are paying for when you book a home tutor rather than a remote one.

The practical texture of a home lesson in a Mumbai flat is worth describing honestly, because nobody does. The lesson happens at the dining table, which means it happens in the middle of the household. The table has to be cleared properly, not partly, because a History lesson needs the student's three notebooks, the school folder, a past paper and space to write without turning pages sideways. The television goes off, not down. Someone needs to decide where the younger sibling will be for that hour. A tutor who asks for these things on the first visit is not being difficult; they are telling you they intend to teach.

The gate is the other logistical reality, and it decides whether the arrangement is pleasant or exhausting. Most Mumbai societies will register a tutor as a standing weekly visitor once a resident authorises it, which is a one-time conversation at the society office. Without that, the tutor repeats a visitor entry every week: a register, a phone call upstairs, an app notification, sometimes a wait at the gate that eats ten minutes of a sixty-minute lesson. Sort it in the first fortnight. Ask your society whether they want the tutor's identity details on file, whether there is a visitor parking slot if the tutor drives, and whether the lift the tutor will use has any restriction in the evening.

Scheduling is where Mumbai specifically punishes the unprepared. The slots families instinctively want, between 5pm and 7pm on a weekday, are the worst available: the child is tired from school, the tutor is crossing the city in the peak hour, dinner is being made, and nobody is at their best. The slots that actually work are 8pm or later on a weeknight, and 7.30am to 10am at the weekend, which is consistently the most productive hour we see. And the handover at the door is a real part of the service: ninety seconds with the tutor as they leave, hearing what happened, tells a parent more than a monthly written report. Ask for it every week and the whole arrangement improves, because a tutor who knows they will be asked prepares an answer.

  • The pen stopping and the eyes going to the notes before the answer
  • A cleared dining table, the television off, and the sibling placed elsewhere
  • Standing weekly gate registration instead of a fresh visitor entry each week
  • Ask about visitor parking and any evening lift restriction in your building
  • The ninety-second handover at the door beats any monthly written report

How long before a History grade actually moves?

Source technique moves fastest, often inside three or four lessons, because it is a procedure rather than a body of knowledge. By four weeks your child should be able to look at an unseen source and tell you who produced it, when, for whom, and why that matters, without being prompted through the steps. Paper 1 writing structure takes six to eight weeks, because the habit of writing narrative is deeply set and has to be replaced rather than corrected. Depth-study knowledge is the slow one and takes a full term to show in marks, since it is built by weekly recall rather than by explanation.

So the four-week test for a History arrangement is not a mark. It is three things you can check at your own table: your child can describe what last week's lesson fixed, the homework comes back with written reasons rather than ticks, and the notes are visibly becoming one organised system instead of three. If all three are true, keep going even if the next school test is flat, because the mark lags the work in this subject more than in any other. If none is true after a month, change tutors rather than wait for the mock to prove the point.

Over a full examination cycle the honest answer is that outcomes vary widely and the reasons are usually not about History. Students who start early and do the weekly recall tend to move substantially. Students who start in February tend to move a little, in the papers that respond to technique. A minority barely move at all, and in most of those cases the limit was workload across five subjects or a student who had decided the subject was not worth their time. A tutor who identifies that and tells you, rather than proposing a third weekly lesson, is doing the more useful job. IB Gram does not guarantee grades, and a tutor who promises a specific grade on a first call has told you what you needed to know about them.

When a match is not working, be concrete with us. Not that it feels off: that no homework has been set for three weeks, that the tutor has rescheduled twice, that your child cannot explain anything from the last lesson, that the slot has drifted from 7pm to 8.30pm. We will usually place a replacement inside the same week, matched on the same corridor so the travel problem does not repeat, and the incoming tutor gets a written handover of what was covered. Changing in week five costs a fortnight. Leaving it until February costs the series, and History is a subject where the series is the whole assessment.

  • Source technique should move inside three or four lessons
  • Paper 1 structure takes six to eight weeks to replace a narrative habit
  • Depth-study knowledge shows in marks after a full term, not a month
  • Four-week test: the child explains the fix, homework has written reasons
  • Replacement matched on the same corridor, with a written handover

Booking IGCSE home tuition in Mumbai for History this term

Three pieces of information get you a shortlist in a day. Your building and corridor, so we can work out who can actually reach you. The depth study your child's school is teaching this year, in the school's own words. And two marked papers, with at least one source question among them. If you have only one of the three, send that one; the corridor is the most useful if you are choosing.

The trial lesson happens at your table and should feel like an assessment of your child rather than a performance by the tutor. Expect them to ask to see the notebooks and the folder, to set a short piece of writing and watch it being written, and to interrupt. Expect the household to be normal rather than staged, because the tutor needs to know what a real Tuesday looks like. At the end you should get a short written plan: the first three things to fix, what weekly homework will be, and when a school assessment should start reflecting it.

We will also tell you when a History (0470) tutor in Mumbai is not what your child needs. Sometimes the real problem is general writing and the right match is an English tutor. Sometimes it is organisation across five subjects, and an IGCSE tutor Mumbai parents would call a study-skills coach fixes more for less. Sometimes a Year 9 student is fine and the answer is to wait six months. We would rather say that than place a tutor who will be let go in November.

On cost, we publish no rate and would be making one up if we did. What IGCSE tuition fees in Mumbai depend on is visible and you can sanity-check it yourself: the board and level, how scarce the subject is in your corridor, how far the tutor travels and by what means, the length and frequency of lessons, and how close the examination series is. In-person lessons in Kasarvadavali or Ulwe price differently from the same lessons in Lower Parel, and the reason is travel rather than teaching.

  • Send your building and corridor first; it narrows the pool fastest
  • Get the depth study in writing from the school, not from memory
  • Expect the tutor to ask for the notebooks and set timed writing
  • A written three-point plan should follow the trial lesson
  • Ask what the fee depends on; travel is a real part of the answer
FAQs

Mumbai tutoring — questions parents ask

How do you make sure a tutor can actually reach our home on time every week?+

By matching every Cambridge IGCSE History 0470 home tutor in Mumbai on corridor and travel time before we look at subject fit at all. Each tutor on our books has a recorded base and a stated travel time, and we do not place someone who would cross the city for a weekday evening slot, because those arrangements fail in month two rather than week one. We also ask for your realistic evenings rather than your preferred ones, and we will suggest a weekend morning if your corridor makes weekday arrivals unreliable. A tutor who is twenty minutes late every week is a scheduling error, not a character flaw.

What will our society gate need from the tutor each week?+

Most Mumbai societies will register a tutor as a standing weekly visitor once a resident authorises it at the society office, which is a single conversation rather than a weekly one. Without that, the tutor repeats a full visitor entry every week: the register, a call upstairs, sometimes an app approval, and a wait that can eat ten minutes of the lesson. Sort it in the first fortnight. Ask whether the office wants the tutor's identity details on file, whether there is a visitor parking slot, and whether the lift the tutor uses has any evening restriction.

Does a parent need to be at home while the lesson is happening?+

Someone responsible should be in the flat, and that is a reasonable standard rather than a strict rule. It does not mean sitting in the lesson. It means the lesson happens in a visible part of the home, usually the dining area, with the door open and people moving through normally. That arrangement protects the child, protects the tutor, and has the side benefit that you overhear roughly what is being taught. If both parents work late, a grandparent or a trusted adult at home works perfectly well. Tell us at the matching stage if nobody can be there.

Where should the lesson happen if we do not have a separate study room?+

The dining table, fully cleared, with the television off rather than turned down. Most Mumbai flats have no study room and it is not a problem. What a History lesson actually needs is horizontal space for three notebooks, a school folder and a past paper, a chair at the right height, decent light, and nobody else talking in the same room for an hour. Decide in advance where a younger sibling will be. A tutor who asks for these things on the first visit is signalling that they intend to teach rather than to chat.

Can a tutor come to Kasarvadavali on Ghodbunder Road for a 7pm evening slot?+

Yes, but only a tutor based in Thane, and we would push you towards a later or weekend slot. Ghodbunder Road at seven in the evening turns a twenty-minute run from Thane station into close to an hour, and a tutor doing that twice a week will eventually start rescheduling. For this corridor specifically we match within Thane, from Majiwada, Manpada, Waghbil or Kasarvadavali itself, and we recommend an 8pm weeknight start or a 7.30am Saturday. The Saturday morning slot is the most reliable hour available to Ghodbunder Road families.

What happens when a tutor's travel runs late and they arrive twenty minutes down?+

Agree the rule before it happens, in writing, at the start. The usual arrangement is that the tutor makes up the time either in the same session or in the next one, and that repeated lateness triggers a conversation about the slot rather than about the tutor. Mumbai traffic is not a character defect and one late arrival in a term is normal. Three in a month means the travel time was never realistic and the slot needs to move, or the match needs to change. Tell us when it reaches three rather than absorbing it quietly for a term.

Is there parking for a tutor who drives to our building in Powai?+

That depends entirely on your society, and Powai is a zone where it genuinely matters. Powai has no railway station, so tutors arrive by road from Andheri East, Kanjurmarg or Ghatkopar, and many drive or ride. Ask your society office whether visitor parking is available in the evening and whether a standing weekly visitor can be allotted a slot. If there is no parking, tell us at the matching stage, because it changes who we shortlist: a tutor arriving by rickshaw from Kanjurmarg has a different reliability profile from one bringing a car.

My son writes everything he knows and still loses marks on Paper 1. Why?+

Because he is writing narrative where the question wants explanation, which is the single most common cause of low Paper 1 marks. Accurate paragraphs describing what happened can score at the bottom of the band if they never say why it mattered or answer the command word. The correction is structural: identify the command word, decide a position before writing, then use specific detail to support that position. It takes six to eight weeks, because the narrative habit has to be replaced rather than patched, and it is much faster with someone watching the writing happen.

How is Paper 2 source work different from what he does at school?+

School often teaches sources as comprehension; the paper treats them as evidence with an agenda. The question is not what the source says but what it is doing: who wrote it, when, for whom, and what they stood to gain, then how that weighs against a source that disagrees. Students who paraphrase well still score poorly here. The quickest way through it is a drill where the attribution lines are covered, the student judges reliability, and then the attributions are revealed and the judgement changes. Four rounds of that usually does more than a term of reading.

Which depth study should he choose, and can a tutor help with that?+

Usually the school chooses, not the student, and that is the first thing to confirm in writing because different Mumbai schools teach different depth studies and some change between cohorts. A tutor can help enormously once the choice is known, and almost not at all before, since depth means a small number of events known in real detail rather than wide coverage. Send us the school's answer and we will shortlist tutors strong on that specific period, because expertise in one depth study does not transfer to another the way general subject knowledge does.

What do IGCSE tuition fees in Mumbai depend on for a History tutor?+

Five things, none of which we will reduce to a published number because any figure here would be invented. The board and level set the baseline. Subject scarcity matters, and Cambridge History specialists are thinner on the ground in this city than Mathematics or Science tutors. Travel distance and mode matter a great deal for in-person lessons. Lesson length and frequency change the monthly total more than the hourly rate does. And proximity to the examination series moves prices upward, which is one more argument for starting in the first term.

We like the tutor but marks are flat after six weeks. What should we do?+

Separate the three timelines before deciding, because History moves at three different speeds. Source technique should have improved by now, so if it has not, that is a real signal. Paper 1 structure is right at the edge of its window at six weeks. Depth-study knowledge will not show in a mark for a full term. So check the leading indicators instead: can he explain what last week fixed, does homework come back with written reasons, are the notes becoming one organised system. If those are all yes, hold. If they are no, tell us and we will replace within the week.

Find your Mumbai tutor

Send us your building and corridor, the depth study the school is teaching this year, and two marked History papers. We will come back with two or three tutor profiles, each with a stated travel time to your door and the evenings they can actually hold. One paid trial lesson follows at your own table. If the match is wrong, say so and we will place a replacement on the same corridor inside the week, with a written handover of the work already covered.
