How IB Gram turns a Mumbai home tuition request into a standing weekly slot

The request that reaches us is usually three lines long: Year 10 at a Cambridge school in Andheri, chemistry marks slipping since bonding, free on Tuesday and Thursday after 6.30pm. Those three lines are enough, because the hard part of arranging home tuition in Mumbai is not finding a chemistry graduate. It is finding one who can be at your building every Tuesday at 6.45pm in June and still be there in January, after the novelty of a new tutor has worn off and the traffic on the Western Express Highway has not improved.

So the first filter IB Gram applies is geography, not credentials. We work out which tutors already live or teach within a sensible evening commute of your address, then rank that shorter list by Cambridge IGCSE Chemistry experience. Doing it the other way round produces the shortlist every marketplace produces: a strong teacher in Vashi matched to a family in Borivali, two sessions of goodwill, then a quiet request to shift everything online. A tutor who treats your weekly slot as a short detour on the way home keeps it. A tutor who treats it as a cross-city expedition does not, and the term ends in March with four cancelled weeks nobody counted.

What you receive is a shortlist of two or three people rather than a directory. Each profile names the boards and papers that tutor has taught, how long they have been teaching Cambridge IGCSE Chemistry, their verified identity status and the exact slots they can hold for a full term. You then book one paid diagnostic session at your own dining table. Nothing about that session is a sales pitch: the tutor sets your child a short mixed set covering bonding, moles and a qualitative analysis table, marks it in front of you both, and says what the real gap is. If the chemistry is sound and the problem is exam writing, a good tutor will tell you that instead of selling you a syllabus rerun.

The slot itself is the deliverable. We write down the day, the start time and the end time, and we check in with you after the fourth session with two questions: is the tutor arriving when they said, and is work coming back marked. Those two answers predict almost everything about how the term will go. IGCSE home tuition in Mumbai fails far more often on logistics than on teaching, and logistics are the part a platform can actually hold you to.

  • 1. Tell us the school, the year group, the tier and two workable evening slots.
  • 2. We filter for tutors whose travel to your address stays under forty minutes door to door.
  • 3. You get two or three profiles with teaching history, identity status and holdable slots.
  • 4. You book one paid diagnostic session at your own table before committing to a term.
  • 5. We fix the weekly slot in writing and check in after the fourth session.

Core or Extended: which 0620 route is your child entered for?

Cambridge International Education enters 0620 candidates at one of two tiers, Core or Extended, and your child's school decides which. Core teaches the syllabus to a capped grade range; Extended adds the harder content and the harder papers and opens the top grades. Ask the coordinator which tier your child is entered for and by when that entry can still be changed, because the answer changes what a tutor should be drilling from the first session onwards.

The shape of Years 9 to 11 matters as much as the tier. Some Cambridge schools in Mumbai run a general science Year 9 and begin 0620 proper in Year 10; others start the syllabus in Year 9 and use Year 11 almost entirely for past papers. Find out which your school does, because a family hiring in June of Year 10 at a school of the first kind is starting at the beginning, while a family at a school of the second kind is already a year into the specification. What most parents are really arranging is a Chemistry (0620) IGCSE Years 9-11 tutor Mumbai schools will recognise as teaching to the same specification, kept for two or three school years rather than two or three months.

Tier has practical consequences for the home plan. An Extended candidate needs the multiple-choice paper drilled for speed and precision and the extended theory paper drilled for structured written answers and calculations, alongside either the practical test or the alternative to practical, depending on what the school enters. Confirm that combination with the coordinator rather than assuming it, and read the current syllabus document rather than a PDF a cousin sent in 2019: Cambridge revises its subject guides on its own cycle. A Core candidate needs the same skills at a lower ceiling, plus an honest conversation about whether a tier change before entry closes is realistic or wishful.

Then there is what comes after. An Extended 0620 grade is the normal entry to International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) Chemistry at Standard Level (SL) or Higher Level (HL), or to an A Level course, and the step up is real: DP Chemistry assumes the stoichiometry and bonding of 0620 are automatic. Families whose child will carry on with chemistry get far more from fixing moles properly in Year 10 than from a crash course in Year 11. A Chemistry (0620) tutor in Mumbai who has also taught DP will tell you which Year 10 gaps become Year 12 problems, which is a different conversation from the one about next month's unit test.

  • Core caps the grade range; Extended opens the top grades
  • The school decides tier entry, and there is a deadline to change it
  • Year 9 may be general science or the start of 0620, depending on the school
  • Extended 0620 is the normal route into IB DP Chemistry at SL or HL
  • Confirm the paper combination with the coordinator, not from an old PDF

Papers 2 and 4 at the dining table, and what Paper 6 is really testing

The theory papers an Extended candidate sits reward different things, and a tutor who treats them as one subject wastes half the slot. The multiple-choice paper is a speed and precision test: the wrong options are built from the exact misconceptions students carry, so a child who half-knows electrolysis finds two plausible answers and picks the wrong one. Practice means doing sets against the clock, then auditing every wrong answer for why the distractor was attractive. The extended theory paper is a writing test wearing a chemistry costume: structured questions, calculations and longer responses where marks go to named species, stated conditions and reasoning in the right order.

Paper 6, the alternative to practical, is where Mumbai students who are strong on content lose marks for reasons nobody warned them about. It asks a candidate to read an apparatus diagram and name the error, plot points and identify an anomalous one, describe a procedure in the right order with the right apparatus, state a variable that must be controlled, and suggest an improvement that is genuinely an improvement rather than just more care. Almost none of that is tested by school lab work, where someone else has usually set up the apparatus and the method is on a worksheet. A Chemistry (0620) tutor in Mumbai should be putting these questions in front of your child from Year 10, not from February of Year 11.

Qualitative analysis is the most reliably wasted set of marks in 0620, because it is pure recall dressed up as practical work. The tests are a finite set and the language is fixed. Barium chloride with a sulfate gives a white precipitate. Silver nitrate with a chloride gives a white precipitate that dissolves in excess ammonia. Carbon dioxide turns limewater milky. An ammonium salt warmed with sodium hydroxide gives a gas that turns damp red litmus paper blue. A student who writes that the solution went cloudy, or that a gas came off, has the chemistry and not the mark. This is the one part of the syllabus where a tutor should be openly drilling: a blank table rebuilt from memory twice a week until it is automatic.

Calculations are the other recurring gap. Moles from mass and from concentration, limiting reagents, empirical formula, percentage yield and titration arithmetic all turn up across the theory papers, and most students in Mumbai meet them in Year 10, half-learn a method and carry the shaky version into Year 11 past papers where the numbers stop being friendly. The repair is slow and unglamorous: the same step order written out every time, units carried through every line, until the method survives a question that does not look like the textbook one.

  • Multiple-choice paper: timed sets, then an audit of every wrong distractor
  • Extended theory: marks for named species, stated conditions and ordered reasoning
  • Paper 6: apparatus errors, anomalous points, controlled variables, real improvements
  • Qualitative analysis: a blank recall table rebuilt twice a week until automatic
  • Mole calculations written in the same step order with units every time

How far will a Chemistry 0620 home tutor travel across Mumbai for a weekly slot?

Mumbai, Maharashtra is six travel problems pretending to be one city, and a home tutor feels all six. In South Mumbai the distances are small and the clock still beats you: Colaba to Worli is a short hop on paper, and the Peddar Road and Haji Ali signals can eat forty minutes of it at 7pm, which is why we match families in Cuffe Parade and Walkeshwar with tutors who already live on the island rather than bringing someone down the Coastal Road from Bandra. The Western Line into Churchgate and Grant Road, the Harbour Line out of CSMT and Metro Line 3 towards Cuffe Parade make a handful of cross-island matches workable. A Bandra tutor crossing the Bandra-Worli Sea Link for a 7pm slot in Worli holds once a week and almost never twice.

The Western Suburbs are the easiest zone to staff and the easiest to get wrong. Matching along the line works: Khar West to Santacruz West, Juhu to Andheri West, Malad to Kandivali, Borivali to Dahisar, all quick on the Western Line or Link Road. Matching across the Western Express Highway at 6.30pm does not. Metro Lines 2A and 7 have changed the arithmetic for Dahisar and Borivali families, and Metro Line 1 from Versova through Andheri to Ghatkopar is the single most useful piece of track for a Cambridge IGCSE Chemistry 0620 home tutor in Mumbai, because it links Andheri to Powai and Ghatkopar without touching a highway at peak hour.

The Central Suburbs hang off the Central Line between Kurla and Mulund, with Powai and Chandivali reached by road from Andheri East, Kanjurmarg or Ghatkopar because Powai has no station of its own; JVLR and the Santacruz-Chembur Link Road decide those journeys, and Hiranandani Gardens is a twenty-minute problem or a fifty-minute one depending entirely on the hour. In the Eastern Suburbs, Chembur, Govandi, Vikhroli, Bhandup and Mulund sit on the Central and Harbour lines with the Eastern Express Highway running through them, and the Eastern Freeway makes a Chembur tutor genuinely available to a family in Wadala or Byculla on a weekday evening, which the map does not suggest.

Navi Mumbai works node to node. Vashi, Nerul, Belapur, Kharghar and Panvel are each a short drive apart on Palm Beach Road and the Sion-Panvel Highway, and the Navi Mumbai Metro from Belapur to Pendhar plus the Trans-Harbour Line from Thane keep those matches inside the node. The Atal Setu has made Panvel to South Mumbai a real journey, but not a weekly one at 6pm. Thane spreads from the station out along Pokhran Road, Majiwada and Ghodbunder Road, and Ghodbunder sets the schedule: a tutor near the station reaches Kasarvadavali in twenty minutes off-peak and close to an hour in the evening peak, so Thane tutors cover Thane and Mulund tutors occasionally cross over. Typing IGCSE tutors near me Mumbai into a phone at 10pm returns national marketplaces; what you need is the name of one person whose own commute ends near your building.

  • Matched along one train line or inside one Navi Mumbai node wherever possible
  • Powai, Chandivali and Hiranandani Gardens are reached by road, never by train
  • The Eastern Freeway puts Chembur tutors within reach of Wadala and Byculla
  • Thane matches stay west or east of Ghodbunder Road, rarely across it
  • Kharghar and Panvel families are matched inside Navi Mumbai, not across the creek

Which months of the Mumbai school year decide a 0620 grade?

January and February decide it, and June is when you can still do something about them. Terms open in June as the monsoon arrives, which is also when a new Year 10 meets the first properly abstract chemistry of the course, and when a large share of the home-tuition enquiries we get are really about one bad July unit test. The first real reckoning is the half-yearly or mid-year examination, broadly late September into October, just before the Diwali break. Families who start a tutor in June have the content gap closed by then; families who start after the half-yearly spend December catching up instead of practising.

Mocks or prelims run in January at most Cambridge schools in Mumbai, school practical and coursework work is wrapped up around the same time, and the main Cambridge series follows in the summer. By the time mocks are marked there is time to fix exam writing and almost none to teach missing content, which makes the January mock paper the single most useful document a home tutor can be handed. Ask your school for its own dates rather than trusting a general calendar, because schools in Mumbai stagger these by weeks and some run a second mock in March.

Families on this page come from schools across the city: Dhirubhai Ambani International School in BKC, Cathedral and John Connon School in Fort, B.D. Somani International School in Cuffe Parade, Bombay International School at Babulnath, Jamnabai Narsee International School in Juhu, Bombay Cambridge International School in Andheri East, Hiranandani Foundation School in Powai, Thakur International School in Kandivali East, NES International School in Mulund West, JBCN International School in Chembur, Smt. Sulochanadevi Singhania School in Thane and D.Y. Patil International School in Nerul. Each runs its own assessment calendar, its own tier policy and its own internal thresholds, which is why a tutor asks for the school name before anything else. IB Gram is an independent platform and is not affiliated with any school named here, and not affiliated with Cambridge International Education or the International Baccalaureate.

  • June to August: close the content gap before the half-yearly examination
  • Late September to October: mid-year papers, then the Diwali break
  • November to December: topic repair and past papers by component
  • January: mocks or prelims, the most useful document a tutor can read
  • February to April: timed writing, recall tables and Paper 6 drills

Home classes first, then online: choosing the format for Chemistry 0620 in Mumbai

Home tutoring leads here because it is what most families searching this phrase actually want, and because it is what works for a fourteen or fifteen year old at 7pm. A tutor at the table sees the page rather than a shared screen. The costs are real and worth saying out loud: you are paying for travel time whether it appears as a line item or not, your tutor pool shrinks to people who can reach you, a heavy monsoon evening or a fever cancels a session rather than moving it, and the slot has to suit two households instead of one. Chemistry (0620) home classes Mumbai parents book usually run once a week for ninety minutes, which is long enough to mark the last set, re-teach one topic and have the child write something under a timer.

Online is the honest answer when the subject is scarce in your part of the city, or when the Paper 4 specialist who suits your child lives in Thane and you are in Colaba. An IGCSE online tutor in Mumbai can hold the slot through rain, illness, exam leave and a family trip, and sharing a scanned script with the mark scheme open beside it works better than most parents expect. What online does badly is catch the half-written ionic equation, the missing state symbol and the moment attention leaves the room. Younger students need the room. A Year 11 in March often does not.

Hybrid is what most families settle into without naming it: one home visit a week plus a short online session before a test, or home visits through term and online during exam leave. Keeping the same person across both formats matters more than the format itself, because the handover cost of a new tutor is a fortnight. Fees follow the same logic: board and level, how scarce the subject specialist is, how far the tutor travels, how long the session runs, and whether you want a peak evening slot that every other family also wants. A Cambridge IGCSE Chemistry 0620 home tutor in Mumbai costs more than the same tutor online for the straightforward reason that two hours of their evening go into a ninety-minute lesson.

  • Home visit: best for Year 9 and Year 10 writing habits and shown working
  • Online: holds the slot through monsoon evenings, illness and exam leave
  • Hybrid: one home session a week plus a pre-test online doubt slot
  • Travel distance and session length move the fee more than the board alone
  • The same tutor across formats beats a cheaper tutor who changes every month

What is checked before a stranger sits down in your living room

Before a tutor reaches your door, IB Gram checks government photo identity, qualification documents and teaching history, specifically which boards and which papers that person has prepared students for. For Cambridge IGCSE Chemistry that means asking whether they have taught Extended theory and the Paper 6 alternative to practical, not whether they hold a chemistry degree; plenty of capable chemists have never read a 0620 mark scheme. We also ask for a reference from a family whose child they taught through a full exam cycle, because the useful question is not whether the first month went well. It is whether they were still arriving on time in February.

Then check them yourself, in the first session, while you are still in the room. Ask them to mark one of your child's school answers against the published mark scheme and explain each mark out loud. Ask which test identifies a sulfate and which identifies a chloride, and what the difference in the observation is. Ask what they do when a student cannot balance an ionic equation. An IGCSE private tutor Mumbai families find through a neighbour may be excellent, and the four questions are the same either way. Be wary of anyone who promises a specific grade by a specific month, and of anyone who cannot name the papers your child is entered for.

Practical checks matter as much as academic ones. Match the name on the identity document to the name your building registers, keep sessions in a common room rather than a bedroom, and keep a parent within earshot even when they are not sitting in. A Cambridge IGCSE Chemistry 0620 home tutor in Mumbai arranged through IB Gram holds a verified identity on file and a slot we can audit, and IB Gram does not guarantee grades: what gets checked is competence, honesty and reliability, which is all anyone can honestly check. Searching for the best IGCSE tutor in Mumbai will not tell you any of this. Four questions in your own living room will.

  • Government photo identity verified and matched to your building register
  • Teaching history checked by board and by paper, not only by degree
  • Reference sought from a family taught through a full exam cycle
  • Ask the tutor to mark one school answer against the mark scheme live
  • Sessions in a common room, a parent within earshot, the door open

What can a tutor at your dining table do that a screen cannot?

Watch the pen. Most marks at 0620 are lost in the gap between knowing the chemistry and writing it down, and that gap is only visible to someone who can see the rough work in the margin, the crossed-out mole calculation and the exact second a student stops writing because the next step is missing.

Several things follow from that. A tutor beside your child can turn the paper around and point instead of describing a location on a screen. They can draw apparatus freehand with your child's own pen, which is how a student learns to sketch a burette, a filtration setup or a gas syringe for Paper 6 rather than merely recognising a picture of one. They can take the phone off the table at the start of the session instead of negotiating about it in the middle. And they can read fatigue: a Year 10 who left home at 7.15am for a school bus is not going to absorb electrolysis at 8.30pm, so a good tutor switches to a timed recall drill and moves the hard topic to Saturday.

The kitchen is the only laboratory a home tutor needs, and not for the chemistry itself. Three nails, one in water, one under oil and one dry in a sealed jar, teach the conditions for rusting and, more usefully, the language of a fair test. A candle under an inverted glass, a spoon of baking soda in vinegar, salt solution left to evaporate on a saucer: none of these is a syllabus practical, and all of them force a student to say what was observed in mark-scheme English rather than in conversation. A home tutor for Chemistry (0620) Mumbai parents book is not recreating the school laboratory, because the school already does the practical work. What happens at your table is the observation, the description and the error-spotting that the alternative to practical paper actually rewards.

There are limits worth stating plainly. A tutor at your table cannot replace school lab time, cannot build a missing Year 9 foundation in the six weeks before a Year 11 mock, and cannot make a student write who will not write. Home visits also fail in a particular Mumbai way: the slot drifts, a 7pm start becomes 7.40pm twice in a row, the ninety minutes become sixty, and a family quietly loses a third of the term without a single cancellation. The format only repays what it costs if the time is protected at both ends, by the tutor and by you.

  • Sees the rough work, the crossings-out and the step the student skipped
  • Draws apparatus freehand with your child's pen, not a stock diagram
  • Kitchen demonstrations teach observation language, not syllabus practicals
  • Reads fatigue and switches to recall drills instead of pushing new content
  • Three minutes with the parent at the door that no online session gives you

Four weeks, one term, one exam cycle: what should actually change

At four weeks you are judging habits, not marks. By the fourth session a tutor should have given you a written weak list, your child should be writing state symbols and showing mole steps without being asked, and homework should come back marked rather than glanced at. School test scores often have not moved at all by then, and that is normal: a unit test in week three covers what the school taught in weeks one and two, not what the tutor has been repairing.

At one term the evidence is past papers. Section scores on topics the tutor actually taught should be moving, the qualitative analysis table should come back from memory unprompted, and the zeros awarded for no working should be gone. Across one exam cycle, from the January mock to the summer series, the honest expectation is real movement where the content was mostly there and the problem was writing, and much less where the foundation was missing. IB Gram does not guarantee grades, and no honest tutor will quote you one in advance.

When it is not working, say so in week three rather than week ten. The symptoms are specific: sessions turn into homework supervision, nothing comes back marked, the tutor reschedules twice in a month, or your child stops mentioning the subject at all. Tell IB Gram and we re-shortlist from the same travel radius, which is the part that matters, because a replacement who lives forty minutes further away solves the teaching problem and creates a scheduling one. The outgoing tutor writes a handover note listing topics covered, past papers already used and the current weak list, so the new tutor does not spend a fortnight repeating the diagnosis. Nobody is asked to keep a tutor who is not working.

  • Week four: written weak list, marked homework, working shown without prompting
  • One term: past-paper section scores moving on topics actually taught
  • One exam cycle: real movement where writing was the gap, less where content was
  • Say it in week three if sessions become homework supervision
  • Replacement comes from the same travel radius with a written handover note

Booking your first Cambridge IGCSE Chemistry 0620 home tutor session in Mumbai

Have five things ready and the first session will be worth what you paid for it: your child's last two chemistry answer scripts with the teacher's marks still on them, the school's topic list or scheme of work, the tier the coordinator has entered them for, two workable weekday slots, and whatever your building needs for a weekly visitor. The scripts are the most useful of these by a wide margin. A tutor can read more from two marked papers than from an hour of conversation about how chemistry is going.

The first session has a shape. Twenty minutes of mixed diagnostic questions across bonding, stoichiometry and qualitative analysis, marked in front of you both. Twenty minutes on one structured theory question written under a timer and marked against the mark scheme while your child watches. Then fifteen minutes of plan: which topics get repaired in which order, what the weekly homework will be, and what you should expect to see by week four. Book a Cambridge IGCSE Chemistry 0620 home tutor in Mumbai for that diagnostic session first, and decide about the term afterwards.

Two practical notes before you book. Fix the slot in writing, including the end time, because a session that habitually starts late is the most common way home tuition in Mumbai stops working without anyone deciding to stop it. And tell the tutor your school calendar in advance: the January mock, the half-yearly, the week of the Diwali break, the sports week that eats a Thursday. A tutor who knows the mock date in June plans backwards from it. A tutor who hears about it in December is reacting, and reacting in a chemistry syllabus this cumulative is expensive.

  • Bring the last two marked chemistry scripts to the first session
  • Confirm Core or Extended entry with the coordinator before hiring anyone
  • Agree the weekly slot start time and end time in writing
  • Tell the tutor the mock and half-yearly dates back in June
  • Clear the table, move the phone out, keep the room quiet for ninety minutes
FAQs

Mumbai tutoring — questions parents ask

What does a Cambridge IGCSE Chemistry 0620 home tutor in Mumbai actually do in the first two weeks?+

Diagnose, then triage. In the first fortnight a Cambridge IGCSE Chemistry 0620 home tutor in Mumbai should work through a mixed set of past-paper questions with your child, mark them against the published mark scheme, and come back with a written list of topics in three groups: secure, shaky and not yet taught. Sessions two to four then open with the shaky list rather than with whatever the school covered that afternoon. If a tutor spends the first fortnight re-teaching chapters in textbook order, they have skipped the diagnosis, and you will find out in October.

How do you fit a home tuition slot into a Mumbai weekday evening?+

You design the slot around the tutor's travel, not around your preference. A 6.30pm start works if the tutor is coming from inside the same corridor; if they are crossing the city, 7.30pm after the worst of the peak is far more durable, and one ninety-minute block beats two sixty-minute sessions because half the value of a home visit is the uninterrupted writing practice in the middle. Families with a Year 11 student often move to a Saturday morning block plus one weekday evening by January, when mocks start and a child who left for school at seven is finished by 7pm.

What should be on the dining table before the tutor arrives, and what does a home tutor bring?+

A lamp, a scientific calculator, a ruler and pencil, the school's topic list and your child's last marked chemistry scripts. The tutor brings printed past papers and mark schemes, the periodic table your child will actually be given in the exam, and blank graph paper for plotting work. Nothing else is needed: no chemicals, no glassware, no printer. Clear the table completely, because a structured theory question spread out next to its mark scheme needs room, and move the phone to another room before the session starts rather than halfway through it.

Can two children in the same flat share one Chemistry home session, and does travel change the rate?+

Yes if they are in the same year and the same tier, and usually not otherwise. Two Year 10 students on Extended share a ninety-minute slot productively, because they can be set the same timed questions and marked side by side, and they compete a little. A Year 9 and a Year 11 cannot: the Year 11 needs past-paper writing and the Year 9 needs content, so you pay for a session in which each child works alone for half of it. Travel is priced once per visit however many children sit down, so a shared session usually costs less per child than two separate ones.

We are moving from Khar West to Nerul in January. Does our tutor move with us?+

Usually not, and planning for that beats hoping. A tutor who was twelve minutes away in Khar West is across the harbour from Nerul, and a weekly crossing by the Atal Setu or the Sion-Panvel Highway rarely survives a full term of Mumbai evenings. Tell us a month before the move and we shortlist inside the new node while the old tutor is still teaching, so the handover happens in one week with a written note of topics covered, past papers already used and the current weak list. Where the timing lands badly, three or four online sessions bridge the gap.

Is 0620 Core or Extended the right entry for my child?+

The school decides, but the honest test is whether your child can already handle moles and ionic equations without help. Extended opens the top grades and is effectively required for International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme Chemistry at Higher Level later; Core caps the grade range but gives a weaker student a realistic route to a solid pass. Ask the coordinator which tier your child is entered for, by when that entry can still be changed, and what the school's internal threshold is. A home tutor can make Extended viable from Year 10. From February of Year 11, far less often.

How often should a Year 10 student in Powai have chemistry at home, and for how long?+

One ninety-minute session a week through Year 10 is the normal starting point, with a second added only for a named reason. Chemistry at 0620 is cumulative: bonding feeds stoichiometry, which feeds electrolysis and the calculations in the theory papers, so a steady weekly slot across the whole year beats four sessions a week in February. Families in Powai often run Thursday evenings through the year and add a Sunday morning block once the January mocks are in sight. If your child is already two topics behind, run two sessions a week for a month, then drop back to one.

What do IGCSE tuition fees in Mumbai depend on when a tutor comes to the house?+

Five things: the board and level, how scarce the subject specialist is, how far the tutor travels, how long each session runs, and whether you want a peak evening slot. IGCSE tuition fees in Mumbai sit above the rate for a state-board subject because the pool of teachers who have genuinely prepared 0620 candidates is small, and chemistry is scarcer than maths. A tutor crossing from the Western Suburbs to South Mumbai prices that travel in, one way or another. Online sessions with the same tutor usually cost less for exactly that reason. We will not print a figure here, because any number would be wrong for half the city.

My daughter in Mulund can recite the reactivity series but loses marks on long theory answers. What fixes that?+

Writing practice under a timer, marked against the mark scheme in front of her. Recall and extended written answers are different skills: a longer question on extraction or electrolysis awards marks for naming the species, stating the half-equation or the condition, and linking cause to observation in the right order. Most students lose those marks for missing steps, not for wrong chemistry. A home tutor should put one such question in front of her, take it away at the time limit, mark it live with the mark scheme visible, and make her rewrite the same answer once. Four weeks of that moves these questions more than any amount of re-reading.

How does qualitative analysis recall get practised between sessions?+

With a one-page table your child rebuilds from memory twice a week, not by re-reading notes. The tests for cations, anions and gases are a finite, learnable set: what silver nitrate does to a chloride, what barium chloride does to a sulfate, what warming with sodium hydroxide does to an ammonium salt, what carbon dioxide does to limewater. A tutor should set the blank table rather than hand over a filled one, and should insist on the exact observation language the mark scheme uses, so a white precipitate soluble in excess ammonia is written that way and not as the liquid went cloudy.

What if we want to switch from home visits to an IGCSE online tutor in Mumbai halfway through Year 11?+

That is a reasonable switch, and many families make it during exam leave. By March of Year 11 the work is almost entirely past papers, and a shared screen with a scanned script works well: the tutor annotates the paper live and your child keeps the annotated copy to revise from. What is lost is the ability to watch working being written in real time, which matters far more in Year 9 and Year 10 than in the last two months before the exams. Keep one home session a fortnight if you can, and give the tutor notice so the slot stays with the same person.

Send us the school, the year group, the tier if you know it and two evening slots that genuinely work. You get two or three profiles the same day, each with verified identity status, the Cambridge papers that tutor has taught and the route they would travel to your building. Pick one, book a paid diagnostic session at your own table, and decide about the term after you have watched them mark your child's work.
