How does IB Gram find the best IB private tutor in Mumbai for one particular child?

By asking about behaviour before asking about marks. A parent tells us the board, the school year, the subjects and the Mumbai locality, and then we ask three things about how the student works: what happens in the week before a test, what happens when a deadline is a fortnight away, and what the student says about the subject when nobody is marking them. Those answers decide which tutor we put forward first.

Subject competence is a filter, not a decision. Plenty of the tutors we work with can teach Diploma Programme (DP) Chemistry or IGCSE Additional Mathematics to the top of the grade band. Far fewer can do it for a student who stops talking the moment a mistake is pointed out. So once the shortlist is down to people who genuinely know the syllabus and the current assessment model, we sort them by manner: who runs a brisk session with a visible agenda, who works slowly and makes the student explain the step back, who is willing to spend a whole first hour on material from two years ago because that is where the hole is.

We also ask what has already been tried, because that usually tells us what not to repeat. A family in Chembur who has been through two tutors that both explained beautifully rarely needs a third explainer; they need someone who will sit beside the student while the work actually gets done. A family in Khar West whose son is two grades below where he thinks he is needs close to the opposite: a tutor who will put his own script next to the markscheme and let the comparison do the talking instead of arguing with him about effort.

None of this is a diagnosis and we do not offer one. We are a tutoring platform, not a clinic. We describe observable behaviour, match a teaching manner to it, and change the tutor if the first choice turns out to be wrong for this particular student.

  • 1. Send us the board, year, subjects, your Mumbai locality and workable days
  • 2. Answer three behaviour questions: before a test, before a deadline, about the subject
  • 3. We shortlist tutors who know that syllabus, then sort the shortlist by manner
  • 4. You get profiles describing teaching manner, not only degrees and subjects taught
  • 5. The first session is diagnostic; you tell us afterwards whether the manner landed

Which programme and level decisions does temperament actually change?

Three, mainly: Higher Level (HL) against Standard Level (SL) in the Diploma Programme, Core against Extended in IGCSE Mathematics and the sciences, and whether to keep carrying a subject the student has quietly stopped working on. Ability sets the ceiling on all three. Temperament decides whether the student survives the workload each choice brings with it.

An HL subject in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme is not a harder version of the SL course. It is more content, an extra paper in most subjects, and usually a heavier Internal Assessment (IA). A student who needs a predictable weekly rhythm is often better off with three HLs chosen on purpose than four picked to look serious on a university application, because the fourth is the one that collapses in January. A student who switches off when work feels repetitive can be the reverse case entirely: moving them down to SL sometimes removes the only thing that was holding their attention, and the grade falls rather than rises.

In IGCSE, the Core and Extended fork in Mathematics and the split between combined and separate sciences get decided in Year 9 or early Year 10 on the strength of internal tests. Cambridge International Education and Pearson Edexcel both set papers that reward fluency under time pressure, so a student who understands the method but works slowly can land in Core for a reason that has nothing to do with grasp. That is a pace problem. Pace responds to rehearsal with a tutor who times things, and it does not respond to a tutor who re-teaches the same topic more gently.

Lower down, in the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the programme constrains very little and the manner of the adult in the room is close to everything. An MYP4 student who has learned that asking a question in class earns a sigh will not ask a tutor either, unless the tutor rebuilds the habit on purpose. This is where an IB home tutor in Mumbai earns the slot: the session is small enough that the student cannot hide in it.

  • HL adds content, an extra paper and usually a heavier Internal Assessment
  • Four HLs chosen to impress is the commonest January collapse we see
  • Dropping a bored student to SL can remove the only thing holding attention
  • Core placement in IGCSE Mathematics is often a pace problem, not a grasp problem
  • MYP and PYP constrain little; the manner of the adult decides almost everything

Which component of each subject sorts students by working habit

There is no one home tutor for all IB and IGCSE subjects Mumbai families need, and anyone offering that is telling you something about how deep they go. What a subject specialist knows is which single component of their course sorts students by habit rather than by ability. In Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches it is the non-calculator paper, where a student who rushes loses marks on algebra they can do perfectly in a quiet room. In Physics it is the Internal Assessment, where a student has to commit to one research question and own it for weeks.

The IA is where manner matters most, across all IB and IGCSE subjects a tutor in Mumbai covers. The criteria reward a narrow question investigated properly, not an ambitious one left half finished. A student who cannot begin because no topic feels good enough needs a tutor who closes options rather than opens them: pick one of these two, we start the method section on Thursday. A student who begins five investigations and finishes none needs exactly the same instruction for a completely different reason. The wrong tutor in both cases is the one who brainstorms enthusiastically for three sessions and leaves the student with more choices than they arrived with.

Theory of Knowledge (TOK) and the Extended Essay (EE) punish the student who writes what they believe an examiner wants to read. The TOK essay needs the student's own claim, defended, and a tutor who keeps handing back a paragraph with one question written on it will get further than one who supplies a thesis. The EE needs a supervisor-shaped habit instead: fortnightly deliverables with dates on them, because a single deadline in November is invisible to a student in August. In IGCSE the same pattern appears in smaller form. Biology Paper 6, the alternative to practical, tests whether a student reads the verb in the question as much as it tests biology, and English Language and Literature Paper 1 guided analysis rewards holding one idea across four paragraphs rather than listing six devices.

The range of all IB and IGCSE subjects home classes Mumbai families book runs from PYP reading through DP HL Further Mathematics, and the component that trips a student up is rarely the one the parent expects. It is usually the piece that needs a working habit the student has never been taught: starting without certainty, finishing to a date, or reading a markscheme as instructions rather than as a verdict.

  • Analysis and Approaches non-calculator paper punishes rushing more than weak algebra
  • Science IAs reward a narrow question investigated properly, not an ambitious one
  • TOK essay needs the student's own claim, not the one examiners supposedly want
  • Extended Essay works on fortnightly dated deliverables, not one distant deadline
  • IGCSE Biology Paper 6 tests reading the question's verb as much as the biology
  • English Paper 1 guided analysis rewards holding one idea across four paragraphs

Home tuition across all six Mumbai zones and what the travel does to the match

Home tuition in Mumbai is a logistics problem before it is a teaching problem, and for some students the logistics are the teaching. A student who needs predictability does badly with a tutor who arrives twenty minutes late twice a month, however strong that tutor is on paper. IB Gram covers all six zones of Mumbai, Maharashtra, and the zone you live in changes what a realistic weekly slot looks like. The search IB tutors near me Mumbai parents run at ten at night is the right instinct for the wrong reason: proximity matters because a reliable arrival time matters, not because a nearer tutor teaches better.

South Mumbai is short-distance and slow. A tutor crossing from Worli to Colaba or Cuffe Parade covers a few kilometres and can still lose most of an hour to the Peddar Road and Haji Ali signals in the evening peak, so island families are matched inside the island rather than pulled down from the suburbs. The Coastal Road has helped the Worli to Nariman Point run and Metro Line 3 has made the Cuffe Parade to BKC trip predictable for the first time, while the Western Line from Churchgate to Grant Road and Mumbai Central still carries most tutors who do not drive. In the Western Suburbs the geography runs along the Western Line and the Western Express Highway, so Khar West to Santacruz West or Malad to Kandivali East works and Bandra to Andheri West at six in the evening does not. Metro Lines 2A and 7 have made the Dahisar to Andheri leg usable, and the Bandra-Worli Sea Link mostly helps families travelling the other way.

The Central Suburbs are the Central Line from Kurla to Mulund plus the Eastern Express Highway, with Powai and Chandivali hanging off the Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road (JVLR) in between. Powai is the exception every Mumbai coordinator learns early: central on the map, no station of its own, so tutors arrive by road from Andheri East, Kanjurmarg or Ghatkopar, and one wet evening on JVLR turns a twenty-minute approach into an hour. Metro Line 1 from Ghatkopar to Andheri and the Santacruz-Chembur Link Road (SCLR) are what make a cross-city match workable at all. The Eastern Suburbs run from Chembur and Govandi up through Vikhroli and Bhandup to Mulund West on the Central and Harbour lines, and the Eastern Freeway puts Wadala and Chembur far closer to South Mumbai than the map suggests, which is occasionally how an island student gets a specialist from the east.

Navi Mumbai is planned in nodes and the node is the matching unit: Vashi, Nerul, Belapur, Kharghar and Panvel sit a short drive apart on Palm Beach Road and the Sion-Panvel Highway, with the Harbour and Trans-Harbour lines and Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1 from Belapur to Pendhar underneath. The Atal Setu has changed the Panvel to South Mumbai calculation, but a tutor crossing it twice on a Tuesday evening will not hold the slot for a full term and we do not pretend otherwise. Thane spreads east from the station along Pokhran Road, Majiwada and Ghodbunder Road, and Ghodbunder sets the schedule: a tutor living near Thane station reaches Kasarvadavali quickly off-peak and slowly at seven in the evening, so Kasarvadavali and Hiranandani Estate families get Thane-side tutors and Mulund tutors cross over only when a subject is scarce. A parent looking for the best IB private tuition in Mumbai inside their own zone is usually making the better trade.

  • South Mumbai matched inside the island: Worli, Colaba, Cuffe Parade, Peddar Road
  • Western Suburbs matched along the line: Khar West to Santacruz West, Malad to Kandivali East
  • Powai and Chandivali reached by road from Andheri East, Kanjurmarg or Ghatkopar
  • Eastern Suburbs from Chembur and Govandi through Vikhroli and Bhandup to Mulund West
  • Navi Mumbai matched node to node: Vashi, Nerul, Belapur, Kharghar and Panvel
  • Thane tutors cover Thane; Ghodbunder Road decides whether an evening slot survives

The Mumbai school calendar and the months each kind of student comes unstuck

The calendar is broadly the same across the international schools here, give or take a fortnight, and it produces predictable months of trouble. Families at Dhirubhai Ambani International School in BKC, Ecole Mondiale World School in Juhu, Oberoi International School off JVLR, Cathedral and John Connon School in Fort and Hiranandani Foundation School in Powai are all working towards the same May examination session, so the IA load stacks up between August and November and the final drafts land in January and February. IB Gram is an independent platform and is not affiliated with any of the schools named here; we name them because their calendars are what tutors in Mumbai schedule around.

August and September break the student who cannot start. The IA brief arrives, the topic is open, and three weeks disappear into choosing. October and November break the one who loses deadlines, because school mocks, the EE first draft and a second IA stop being a single queue and become three. January and February expose a subject that has been quietly avoided since the previous year, since the gap is now twelve months wide and a final draft is due anyway. March and April are hardest on the confident student, when a mock grade arrives and contradicts their own account of how the paper went. May adds nobody new to the list; it simply finds whoever never rehearsed under timing.

IGCSE families at B.D. Somani International School in Cuffe Parade, Jamnabai Narsee International School in Juhu, Smt. Sulochanadevi Singhania School in Thane or D.Y. Patil International School in Nerul work to two series, October to November and May to June, which means one child can be sitting real papers while a sibling two years below is still in mocks. That matters for home tuition scheduling more than parents expect: two students in one flat on different series want different weeks protected, and a tutor who can only offer one fixed evening will suit one of them and not the other.

The Mumbai year has interruptions of its own that the IB calendar ignores. The heaviest monsoon weeks in July cost sessions across Ghodbunder Road, JVLR and the Sion-Panvel Highway. The Ganpati days in late August or September make traffic through Parel, Lalbaug and Chembur unreliable for about a week. The Diwali break is treated by families as a holiday and by the Diploma Programme as drafting time, and a student who needs structure will lose a fortnight there unless somebody has written down what gets done each day.

  • August and September: IA briefs land and an open topic stalls the student who cannot start
  • October and November: school mocks and the Extended Essay first draft collide
  • January and February: final drafts expose a subject quietly avoided all year
  • March and April: mock grades arrive and contradict a confident self-assessment
  • IGCSE families work two series, October to November and May to June
  • Monsoon weeks, Ganpati traffic and the Diwali break cost sessions every year

Is home tuition or online better for a student who panics before tests in Mumbai?

Home tuition, usually, at least for the first term. A student who goes blank before assessments needs the same room, the same hour and the same face every week, and a home slot delivers that more reliably than a screen does. Once the rehearsal habit exists, online can carry it perfectly well, and a good number of families settle on a hybrid.

The real argument for home tutoring is not comfort, it is information. In the flat the tutor sees the actual desk, the actual notes, the actual phone face-up next to the calculator, and the actual gap between the folder the student says is organised and the folder that exists. A tutor can fix a working habit they can see. The honest cost is catchment: a home tutor's reach is a zone, sometimes two, so for a scarce subject such as HL Further Mathematics, a second language or Economics Paper 3 depth, the pool near you may simply not contain the manner your child needs. We would rather say that than send a nearby tutor who teaches the subject at the wrong level.

An IB online tutor in Mumbai removes the travel constraint, which is how a Kharghar student reaches a specialist living in Bandra East without anyone crossing the creek twice a week. Screen-shared marking is genuinely better than two people leaning over one page, since the script sits large on both screens and the examiner's logic can be annotated line by line. Online quietly punishes two kinds of student though: the one who answers in single words, because none of the small signals a tutor reads in a room survive a video call, and the one who keeps other tabs open, because the session becomes one window among several.

The arrangement that works most often for a student who dreads assessments is a hybrid: one home session a week for the work that needs an adult in the room, and one shorter online session for drilling and marking. Parents comparing the best IB private tutor in Mumbai options on mode alone usually have this backwards. Mode matters much less than whether the tutor's manner survives the mode, and a brisk timed tutor is brisk on a screen while a tutor who works by reading the room loses half their tools there.

  • Home sessions show the tutor the real desk, the real notes, the real distractions
  • Home catchment is a zone or two, so a scarce subject may have no local match
  • Online removes travel and makes script marking clearer than sharing one page
  • Online is hardest on the student who answers in single words or keeps tabs open
  • Hybrid: one home session for the work, one short online session for drill

What we check in a tutor and what you should watch in the first three sessions

What we check is dull and specific: identity, the teaching history the tutor claims, which board and which syllabus version they have actually taught, and whether past families kept them beyond a term. We ask about subjects and levels separately, because somebody who taught IGCSE Physics for years has not necessarily taught DP Physics HL, and supervising an IA is not the same job as teaching a syllabus. Where a tutor says they handle TOK or the EE, we ask what they last supervised and what the student scored against which criterion.

What we cannot certify is manner. We can observe it, describe it and match on it, but a tutor who is warm with one student can be short with another, and nobody issues a certificate for that. So the verification that decides this arrangement happens in your flat, in the first three sessions, and you are the one doing it. You do not need to sit in the room; the evidence is visible from outside it.

Session one: does the tutor get the student working, or only explain? An hour of excellent explanation with the student watching is the most common way a bright student stays exactly where they were. Session two: does the tutor know what happened last week without being reminded, and does the session open with something unfinished? Session three: has any behaviour changed, even slightly, in how the work starts? Watch the ten minutes after the tutor leaves as well. A student who goes straight back to the question they were stuck on has had a useful hour.

Ask us for a change early rather than late. The commonest mistake parents make is waiting out a mismatch politely until a report card forces the issue in March. Nobody loses face; we would far rather move a tutor in week three. The best IB private tutor in Mumbai for your child may well be the second person we send rather than the first, and that is not a failure of matching, it is what matching is.

  • We verify identity, teaching history, board and the syllabus version actually taught
  • IGCSE Physics experience is not DP Physics HL experience; we ask separately
  • Session one: does the tutor make the student work, or only explain
  • Session two: does the tutor remember last week without being reminded
  • Session three: has any behaviour changed in how the work gets started

Six students you will recognise and the teaching manner each one needs

What people mean by the best IB private tutor in Mumbai is almost always one of six fits. None of the patterns below is a type, a label or a diagnosis of your child. Each is a description of behaviour, and each points at a different teaching manner, which is why a tutor who transformed your neighbour's son can be the wrong choice for your daughter.

The student who knows the material in the kitchen and loses it in the exam hall needs predictability and rehearsal, not more content. What a tutor should do: run the session to a visible agenda, put timed questions on the table from week one, mark the script in front of the student while the mistakes are still warm, and make the paper boring through repetition until the format itself stops being a surprise. What the wrong tutor does: covers another chapter because the student needs to be stronger, which adds to the pile the student is already afraid of and confirms that there is always more they have not done.

The student who leaves an exam saying it went fine and comes back with a grade nobody expected does not need motivating. They need their own script placed beside the markscheme, in silence. What a tutor should do: mark the student's real work rather than a model answer, point at the exact line where method marks stopped, and ask the student to grade the next one themselves before saying anything. What the wrong tutor does: praises the effort, re-explains a topic the student already understands, and leaves the belief that everything is basically fine completely intact.

The student who understands the work and loses the deadline needs structure far more than explanation. What a tutor should do: open with the calendar rather than the content, break an IA or an EE into dated deliverables the student writes down in their own handwriting, and close every session with one sentence about what is due before the next one. What the wrong tutor does: teaches a genuinely excellent hour on enzymes and leaves the deadline precisely where it was, so both of them feel productive and nothing is handed in.

The student who has quietly stopped opening one subject needs one early win, quickly. What a tutor should do: go back two years without announcing it, choose something the student can finish correctly inside the first session, and let one whole question come out right before anything difficult appears. What the wrong tutor does: starts at the current chapter in order to catch up, which proves to the student in twenty minutes that the subject is still impossible and that this adult is one more person who has not understood the problem.

The student who cannot begin an IA because no topic is good enough needs options closed, not opened. What a tutor should do: offer two viable research questions and a date, start the method section before the topic feels perfect, and treat the first draft openly as disposable so that writing it costs nothing. What the wrong tutor does: brainstorms, admires the ambition, and sends the student away to think about it for another week. Last, the capable student who is simply bored needs difficulty, not encouragement. A tutor should skip the explanation they have heard four times, go to the hardest past-paper question in the topic in the first ten minutes, and be willing to be beaten on something. The wrong tutor works patiently through the basics and loses them by week two.

  • Panics before tests: ask for timed rehearsal, not another chapter of content
  • Confident but under-marked: ask for silent script marking against the markscheme
  • Misses deadlines: ask for a calendar-led session with dated deliverables
  • Has given up on a subject: ask for one finished correct question in session one
  • Cannot start the IA: ask for two options and a date, not a brainstorm
  • Bored and capable: ask for the hardest question in the topic first

What should progress look like after four weeks of IB home tuition in Mumbai?

Changed behaviour, not a changed grade. After four weeks you should see the student starting work earlier, asking a question inside a session, or handing something in on the day it was due. Grades move across a term and an exam cycle, and IB Gram does not guarantee grades at any point. Anyone who does is selling you something a tutor cannot deliver on their own.

Over one term the markers get more concrete. A complete IA draft in on time is worth more than a slightly better predicted grade. A mock paper where the marks lost are the hard ones at the end rather than the first three questions is real movement, even when the total barely shifts. A student who can tell you what the markscheme was rewarding has learned the thing that generalises. Across a full exam cycle the honest picture is mixed: some students move a grade or two, some hold a grade they had been losing, and a few do not move at all. We will tell you which of those we think we are looking at rather than promising the first one in advance.

The warm, patient tutor nearly every parent asks for is the right answer roughly half the time. For a student who has stopped trying, warmth is the whole treatment and nothing else works until it has done its job. For the confident student whose marks keep contradicting them, warmth is actively unhelpful: it is one more adult agreeing that everything is fine. For the student who loses deadlines, a patient tutor who lets the hour drift into an interesting tangent is pleasant company and changes nothing at all.

The demanding tutor is not the corrective either. Pressure works on a student who is coasting and has confidence to spend, and it works badly on a student who already dreads the subject, where it produces homework done for the tutor's approval and a quieter child. With a disorganised student, a demanding tutor mostly generates a larger pile of undone work. So the best IB tutor in Mumbai for a student who has given up is not the best IB tutor in Mumbai for one who is bored, and what we actually look for is a tutor whose default manner fits the student's current state and who can move off that default when the state changes. A student who was going blank in October is sometimes bored by February.

  • Four weeks: behaviour changes first, work starting earlier, questions getting asked
  • One term: a complete IA draft on time, marks lost on the harder questions
  • One exam cycle: some move grades, some hold one, a few do not move
  • The patient tutor is wrong for a student who thinks everything is fine
  • The demanding tutor is wrong for a student who already dreads the subject

Describing your child honestly before the first home session in Mumbai

The most useful thing you can do before the first session is describe your child the way you would to a doctor rather than the way you would to a relative. Not bright but lazy, which tells us nothing we can match against. Something closer to this: she finishes Maths the night it is set, has not opened the Chemistry folder in three weeks, and changes the subject whenever the IA comes up. That is three facts, no verdict, and it points at a specific manner.

Three sentences is enough: what the student does when the work is easy, what they do when it is hard, and what has already been tried. Include the unflattering detail, because it is usually the one that decides the match. We are not assessing your parenting and we do not repeat any of it to the student. We also will not interpret it beyond choosing which tutor to send, because reading a child's character off a parent's description is not something a tutoring platform should be doing.

Then have four things ready. The school's assessment calendar for the term, so the tutor can work backwards from real dates. The last report, with the subject teacher's comments and not only the grades. The most recent marked script, meaning the paper itself with the marks on it, which tells a tutor more in five minutes than an hour of conversation. And a decision about where the sessions happen, kept the same every week, because a student who needs predictability starts losing it at the front door.

The first session should look diagnostic. Expect the tutor to spend most of it watching your child work, asking them to attempt something unaided, and finding the earliest point where the method breaks rather than the topic the school is currently on. Expect a short summary afterwards of what they found and what they propose to do for the next three weeks. If instead you hear a lecture through the wall for an hour, tell us, because that is information about the fit and it arrives early enough to act on.

  • Bring the school assessment calendar and the last report, not just the grades
  • Bring the most recent marked script, the paper itself with the marks on it
  • Decide the study space before the tutor arrives and keep it the same weekly
  • Register the tutor at your society office once the arrangement is holding
  • Expect the first session to be mostly watching the student work
FAQs

Mumbai tutoring — questions parents ask

What does the best IB private tutor in Mumbai actually mean in practice?+

It means the tutor whose teaching manner matches how your child behaves when the work gets hard. There is no single best IB private tutor in Mumbai, because the person who rebuilds a student who has given up on Chemistry is usually the wrong choice for a bright student who is bored and needs to be out-argued. In practice the phrase describes a fit between three things: the syllabus the tutor has genuinely taught, the manner they default to under pressure, and the student sitting in front of them. Subject expertise is the filter. Manner is the decision.

My son knows the work at home and goes blank in tests. What should I ask for?+

Ask for a tutor who times things. A student who can do the algebra at the kitchen table and loses it in the hall has a rehearsal problem, not a content gap, and the session should look more like a short exam than a lesson: a past-paper section done cold against the clock, then the script marked together while the mistakes are still fresh. Say explicitly that you do not want another tutor who covers chapters, or you will get one, because covering chapters is the reasonable default. The sign it is working after a month is small: the student stops asking how long the test is.

Can a tutor be too gentle?+

Yes, and it is the commonest mismatch we see. Warmth is the entire treatment for a student who has stopped trying, and close to useless for a student who believes they are already doing fine. If your child leaves exams saying it went well and comes back with a grade that contradicts them, a patient tutor who praises effort and re-explains the topic will reinforce exactly the belief that is costing the marks. That student needs someone who will set their own script beside the markscheme, point at the line where the method marks stopped, and then say nothing until the student has seen it.

My daughter understands everything but keeps missing deadlines. Is a tutor the right fix?+

Yes, but only a tutor who runs the calendar rather than the content. A student who knows the material and loses the IA deadline needs each session to open with dated deliverables she writes down herself, and to close with one sentence about what is due before the next one. A tutor who teaches a brilliant hour on enzymes and leaves the deadline untouched will change nothing, however good the hour was. Tell us at the start that organisation is the problem. Otherwise the tutor will quite reasonably assume you booked them to teach.

How do I describe my child to you without sounding like I am complaining?+

Describe behaviour and leave out the verdict. Instead of bright but lazy, tell us he finishes Maths the night it is set, has not opened the Physics folder since the mocks, and changes the subject when the Extended Essay comes up. Those are three facts we can match a manner against, and none of them is a judgement on him or on you. Include the unflattering detail, because it is usually the one that decides the match. None of it goes back to the student, and we do not interpret it beyond choosing who to send.

Will a tutor travel to our building off Ghodbunder Road in Thane on a weekday evening?+

Yes, if the tutor is a Thane tutor. A weekly evening slot in Kasarvadavali or Hiranandani Estate holds when the tutor already lives on the Thane side. The same slot filled by somebody travelling from Mulund or Powai tends to slip by the third week, because Ghodbunder Road at seven in the evening is not the road it is at three in the afternoon. We tell you where the tutor is coming from before you commit to a day. For a student who needs the hour to be predictable, a tutor who arrives on time every week beats a marginally stronger one who is often late.

Our society requires a gate pass for every visitor. How does that work for weekly home tuition?+

Register the tutor as a recurring visitor with your society office, which most Mumbai complexes allow once a name, a phone number and photo identity are on file. Do it before the second session rather than the first, once you know the arrangement is holding, and we will share the tutor's identity details for that purpose. Where the society app issues a one-time code per visit, send the code ahead of the slot. A tutor standing at a Powai or Kharghar gate for ten minutes is ten minutes off the hour and an unsettling start for a child who needs the session to be the same every week.

We do not have a spare room. Where should home classes happen?+

The dining table is fine, and often better than a bedroom. What matters is that the space is the same every week, has a hard surface big enough for a past paper and a calculator, and has no television in the line of sight. Plenty of Mumbai flats solve this by making the hour a household convention: for sixty or ninety minutes the room belongs to the session and nobody passes through. A clubhouse study room is an option in some societies, but check whether a non-resident tutor is allowed in before you rely on it. Avoid working on a bed, because posture decides how long a student will sit with a hard question.

What do IB tuition fees in Mumbai depend on?+

Board, level, subject scarcity, travel distance and session length, roughly in that order of effect. A DP Higher Level science or a less common language costs more than an MYP subject because fewer tutors in Mumbai teach it to the current syllabus. A tutor crossing a zone prices the travel in, which is one more reason to match inside your own zone. And a longer session is not simply worth more per minute, because the second half is where the student works alone with the tutor watching, which is the part that actually changes habits. We quote per tutor rather than from a list, and we do not publish a price table.

What happens if the tutor is not working out after three sessions?+

Tell us and we arrange someone different, without a discussion about whose fault it was. Three sessions is the right moment: long enough for the manner to show, early enough that the student has not written the whole idea off. Say what specifically is not working in behaviour terms, for example he still does not start the homework, or she has gone quieter since the sessions began. That is what lets us change the right variable instead of guessing. A replacement is matched against your original brief plus whatever the first attempt taught us about the manner your child does not respond to.

Does online tuition work for a student who will not speak up?+

Less well at the start, and often well later. A student who answers in single words is far easier to read in the same room, where a tutor sees the hand hover over the page, the eyes go to the phone and the blank half-minute before a question finally gets asked. Little of that survives a video call. Start with home sessions until the student volunteers something unprompted, and after that an IB online tutor in Mumbai can carry the drilling and the script marking perfectly well, with screen-shared marking that is clearer than two people leaning over one sheet of paper.

We live in Kharghar and my son studies at a school in Navi Mumbai. Are there tutors on this side of the creek?+

Yes, and we would rather match you inside Navi Mumbai than across the creek. Vashi, Nerul, Belapur, Kharghar and Panvel are a short drive apart on Palm Beach Road and the Sion-Panvel Highway, so a node-to-node match survives a full term. The Atal Setu has made the island city genuinely reachable from Panvel, but a tutor crossing it twice on a Tuesday evening will eventually ask to move the slot, and the student pays for that in broken routine. Where a subject is scarce enough that nobody local teaches it at the right level, we will say so and propose a hybrid instead.

Find your Mumbai tutor

Send us the board, the year, the subjects, your Mumbai locality and three plain sentences about how your child works when the task is easy and when it is hard. We shortlist tutors who know that syllabus, sort the shortlist by teaching manner, and send you profiles that describe the manner rather than only the degrees. You choose, we schedule the first session at home or online, and you tell us afterwards whether it landed. If it did not, we send somebody different.
