Best IB Online Tutor in Mumbai

Searching for the best IB online tutor in Mumbai creates a problem the home tuition market never had: you cannot ask a neighbour about a teacher who works from another city. This page is about verifying a tutor at a distance, with checks a Mumbai family can run from the flat before any money changes hands.

How does a request for the best IB online tutor in Mumbai become a shortlist you can check?

It becomes two or three named tutors, each carrying the board, the programme year, the subject and the level they actually teach, one piece of their marking you can read, and one reference you can telephone. That is the whole of it. The phrase best IB online tutor in Mumbai describes a judgement rather than a fact, and the judgement stays with you. Our job is to hand over enough checkable material that you can make it in an evening instead of over a term.

The order of the checks matters more than most parents expect. A screening call held before the marked sample arrives usually decides the outcome on its own, because a fluent, confident half hour on video is the easiest thing in this market to produce and the hardest thing to argue with afterwards. So the written material goes first: the syllabus version the tutor works from, the year groups they have taught, the qualification they claim and the institution that awarded it, and a script with their comments on it. Read that cold. Then talk to them. Families who work in that order ask far sharper questions on the call.

Scarcity shapes the shortlist honestly, and we say so. For Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level (HL), or Physics HL, the number of people in any single Mumbai suburb who can mark to the current criteria is genuinely small, and that is the real argument for going online rather than a marketing preference. For Middle Years Programme (MYP) English or International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) Mathematics at Core tier, there is usually someone competent within a short drive, and an IB home tutor in Mumbai is then the simpler arrangement to keep running.

You are asked for four things at the start: board and year group, subject and level, two windows in the week that genuinely work around school and travel, and one recent piece of written work with the teacher's marks still on it. What the arrangement costs afterwards depends on the board, the level, how scarce that subject is, the length of the session and, for a tutor who travels, the distance. We price per tutor rather than publishing a tariff, because those five things move the figure more than anything else does.

  • 1. Send the board, year group, subject, level and the specific problem.
  • 2. We check identity documents, teaching record and the syllabus version in use.
  • 3. You get two or three profiles with qualifications stated in writing.
  • 4. You run the sample-marking test on one of your child's scripts.
  • 5. You watch a screen-share session before any term is paid for.

Which programme claims can a Mumbai parent actually check, and which are just words?

Claims about the Diploma Programme (DP) and about IGCSE are checkable at a distance; claims about the Primary Years Programme (PYP) mostly are not. A DP tutor can be asked which criteria a Physics Internal Assessment (IA) is marked against and what separates a mid band from a top band on one of them. An IGCSE tutor can be asked why a particular paper question carries a method mark. A PYP claim lives in how a tutor behaves with an eight-year-old over forty minutes, which no document shows you.

That split should change what you do. For PYP and lower MYP, weight the screen-share trial heavily and the paperwork lightly, and consider whether home classes are the better buy at that age. For DP and IGCSE, weight the marking sample heavily, because the gap between a teacher who knows the current subject guide and one who learned the previous version is visible in two minutes of annotation and invisible in an hour of conversation.

The level decisions are where vagueness hides. A tutor who teaches both Higher Level (HL) and Standard Level (SL) in the same subject should be able to tell you, without pausing, what the HL paper asks for that the SL paper does not, and which HL-only topics sit outside the SL syllabus. Ask the same about Core and Extended tier at IGCSE: which grades each tier can reach, which questions only appear on the Extended paper, and what a mid-year move between tiers costs in coverage. Someone who answers with generalities about rigour and depth has not taught both.

Internal assessment is the other place to probe. Every subject across both boards carries coursework of some kind, and the rules differ on how much help is allowed. A tutor who will not state plainly where they stop on an IA, an Extended Essay (EE) or a Theory of Knowledge (TOK) essay is a risk you are taking on your child's behalf, not theirs. The honest answer sounds like a limit: they will question a method, mark a draft against criteria and refuse to supply a sentence.

  • Ask which subject guide edition and first assessment year they teach from
  • Ask what the HL paper demands that the SL paper does not
  • Ask why a Core candidate cannot reach the top IGCSE grades
  • Ask where exactly they stop helping on an IA or EE
  • For PYP, judge the trial lesson and discount the paperwork

The sample-marking test: one script, one band, one reason

This is the single most useful check available to a parent, and it costs nothing. Send one piece of your child's recent work, unmarked if you can get it that way, and ask the tutor two questions: what band would this get, and why that band rather than the one above it. A teacher who marks for a living answers in criteria and quotes the script back at you. Someone who does not will praise the effort, mention structure, and never name a descriptor. Run this across all IB and IGCSE subjects any tutor in Mumbai claims to cover and the shortlist thins out quickly.

The answers look different by subject, which is why one sample is worth more than three references. On a Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches script, a real marker points at where method marks were lost and where an answer was correct but unearned. On a Physics IA, they talk about the uncertainty treatment and whether the conclusion is supported by the data rather than by the hypothesis. On an English Language and Literature guided analysis, they show you the difference between a point about a technique and a point about an effect. On Economics Paper 2, they look for the diagram doing work in the argument instead of decorating it.

Cambridge International Education papers reward the same test. On IGCSE Mathematics, ask why a question is worth four marks and where the working had to appear. On IGCSE English, ask what the reading question is actually testing, because a confident tutor will tell you it is not the same skill as the directed writing task. On Biology or Chemistry, ask what a command word like explain requires that describe does not. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE sits close enough that a good teacher will name the differences rather than pretend there are none.

Parents also use this test when choosing a home tutor for all IB and IGCSE subjects Mumbai families ask about, because the same marked script can go to two candidates at once. Their two replies side by side tell you more than any profile, and the comparison is free. If one tutor writes a band with a reason and the other writes encouragement, you have your answer before the first session is booked.

  • Send one script and ask for a band plus the reason for it
  • A real marker quotes your child's own sentences back at you
  • Praise without a named criterion is the warning sign here
  • Send the same script to two candidates and compare the replies
  • Ask which command words cost marks on that particular paper

Where in Mumbai does going online widen a genuinely thin pool?

Everywhere for scarce subjects, and almost nowhere for common ones. In South Mumbai, families in Colaba, Cuffe Parade, Peddar Road and Malabar Hill have decent local supply for Mathematics and English, served by the Western Line out of Churchgate and Grant Road, the Harbour Line from CSMT, Metro Line 3 towards Bandra Kurla Complex and now the Coastal Road. The pool goes thin at HL Chemistry and at any second language, and that is where going online stops being a convenience and becomes the only way to get the right teacher. In the Western Suburbs, Bandra West, Khar West, Juhu, Andheri West and Borivali sit along the Western Express Highway, the Western Line and Metro Lines 1, 2A and 7, so a tutor can usually reach you, though at six in the evening the Bandra Worli Sea Link decides whether they arrive on time.

The Central and Eastern Suburbs behave differently. Powai and Chandivali hang off the Jogeshwari Vikhroli Link Road with no station of their own, so tutors come by road from Andheri East, Kanjurmarg or Ghatkopar, and the Santacruz Chembur Link Road carries the rest. Chembur, Govandi, Vikhroli, Bhandup, Mulund and Wadala are strung along the Central and Harbour lines and the Eastern Express Highway, with the Eastern Freeway making the island city far closer than the map suggests. For a DP2 student in Mulund needing HL Economics in January, searching for IB tutors near me in Mumbai returns the wrong answer: the specialist is in Andheri or in another city altogether, and a screen is the only practical way to reach them.

Across the creek the arithmetic is sharper still. Navi Mumbai is built in nodes, Vashi, Nerul, Belapur, Seawoods, Kharghar and Panvel, each a short run from the next along Palm Beach Road and the Sion Panvel Highway, with the Harbour and Trans-Harbour lines and the Atal Setu now shortening the trip from the island. Pulling an island-city tutor across for a weekday evening slot rarely survives a full term. Thane spreads from the station out along Pokhran Road, Majiwada, Ghodbunder Road and Kasarvadavali, and the Ghodbunder stretch sets everyone's timetable: twenty minutes off peak, close to an hour in the evening. Both places have real local teachers for mainstream subjects and almost none for the rare ones.

So the honest rule in Mumbai, Maharashtra is this: online widens the pool, and it is worth the widening exactly when the subject is scarce, the level is high or the calendar is tight. For a Core-tier IGCSE student in Kandivali East who needs someone in the room to stop the phone being picked up, all IB and IGCSE subjects through home classes Mumbai families already run will beat any screen. The best IB online tutor in Mumbai for a Panvel family may well live in Pune or Bengaluru, and that is a feature of online, not a compromise.

  • South Mumbai: good generalist supply, thin at HL Chemistry and second languages
  • Western Suburbs: dense along the line, slow across it after six
  • Powai and Chandivali reached only by road from Andheri East or Ghatkopar
  • Navi Mumbai and Thane: strong local generalists, very few rare-subject specialists
  • Scarce subject, high level or tight deadline: online wins on supply

When does the Mumbai school calendar leave you time to check a tutor properly?

June to August, and almost never after October. The academic year at schools such as Dhirubhai Ambani International School in Bandra Kurla Complex, Ecole Mondiale World School in Juhu, Oberoi International School on the Jogeshwari Vikhroli Link Road, Hiranandani Foundation School in Powai, Cathedral and John Connon School in Fort and NES International School in Mulund West opens while the monsoon is still running, and the first two months are the only stretch in the year when a family has the slack to send a sample script, wait for marking, telephone a reference and watch a trial session without a deadline pressing.

By late September the DP2 calendar closes in. Internal Assessment drafts in the sciences and Mathematics land within weeks of each other, the Extended Essay reaches its final deadline, and the Theory of Knowledge essay follows once the school's own prompts are issued. Diwali falls in that window and takes a fortnight out of it. A family that starts looking for a tutor in that period is choosing under pressure, which is precisely when verification gets skipped and a confident call wins the booking. IGCSE families hit the same wall slightly later, with coursework and mocks stacked against the May and June series.

There is a second honest window in the fortnight after mocks, usually in January or February. The marks are real, the gaps are specific, and a tutor can be judged on whether their reading of the mock script matches the teacher's. It is a short window and it is the last one: a tutor hired three weeks before a paper is a damage-limitation measure, not a match, and should be judged as one.

Naming these schools is local context and nothing more. IB Gram is an independent platform, not affiliated with any school on this page or with any examination board, and we have no visibility into a school's internal marks or predicted grades beyond what you choose to share with us. We also do not guarantee grades, from any tutor, in any setting, online or at your table.

  • June to August: the only unpressured window for a full verification run
  • Late September to November: IA drafts, EE deadline and TOK essay together
  • Diwali removes a fortnight from the tightest part of the DP2 year
  • Post-mock January or February: real marks, specific gaps, short window
  • Three weeks before a paper is triage, and should be judged as triage

Home tuition first, then online and hybrid: what does each setting let you verify?

A home tutor is the easiest person in the world to check, which is why IB home tuition in Mumbai remains the lead arrangement for most families here. You meet them. You see how they sit with your child, whether the phone goes face down, whether they bring the subject guide or expect the student to produce it. You hear the session from the next room. None of that requires a test or a reference, and for PYP, MYP and Core-tier IGCSE students it is usually worth more than a wider choice of teacher. An IB home tutor in Mumbai also absorbs the small things: a printed past paper, a diagram sketched on the back of it, a parent catching the end of the hour.

Online trades that visibility for supply, and the trade is sometimes clearly correct. It removes travel from the equation, which in this city is the main reason a weekly slot collapses by November, and it opens the whole country for HL Chemistry, Further Mathematics, Japanese or Economics at the top band. What it costs you is exactly what this page is about: every signal you would have read in a hallway now has to be replaced with a deliberate check. That is doable, but it has to be done, and the best IB online tuition in Mumbai is simply the arrangement where those checks were run properly before term started.

Hybrid is underrated and often the right answer. A fortnightly visit from an IB private tutor Mumbai parents can telephone, plus weekly online sessions with the subject specialist, gives you a human being who has physically met your child and a teacher who actually knows the paper. It also gives you two independent opinions when something is going wrong, which is far more useful than one. The cost is coordination: two people have to agree on what is being covered, and someone has to keep that written down.

Choose on three things rather than on preference. The child's age and self-management, because a fourteen-year-old alone in a room with a laptop is a different proposition from a seventeen-year-old with mock results in front of her. The scarcity of the subject, because there is no point insisting on a visit if nobody within reach can mark the paper. And the travel reality of your address, because a slot that needs forty minutes on Ghodbunder Road at seven in the evening will not last until March, whatever anyone promises in June.

  • Home: verification is almost free because you are in the building
  • Online: wider supply, but every hallway signal must be replaced deliberately
  • Hybrid: a local visitor plus a remote specialist, and two honest opinions
  • Younger or easily distracted students usually do better with someone present
  • Scarce subject at HL: online is often the only way to reach the right teacher

How do you check a teacher you will never meet?

With three checks, in this order: a marked sample, a screen-share trial, and a reference on the telephone. On our side we see identity documents, we confirm the qualification with the awarding institution where it can be confirmed, and we ask for the subject guide edition they teach from. What we cannot do is sit in your flat and watch your child's face at minute thirty-five, which is why the parent-side checks are not a formality. A family that runs all three and still chooses badly has at least chosen on evidence, and that is the most anyone can honestly offer about the best IB online tutor in Mumbai.

The screen-share trial shows you things a conversation cannot. Watch what happens in the first five minutes: does the tutor open your child's actual script, or their own slides? Does the student ever hold the pen, or is it a lecture with a shared screen? When your child says something wrong, does the tutor correct it and move on, or stop and find out why the mistake happened? A session where the student annotates a document while the tutor questions them is teaching. A session where a deck advances for fifty minutes is a presentation, and you will not know for two months that nothing was learned.

References need a phone number, not an email. Ask for one parent of a current or recent student and telephone them. The useful questions are specific and small: did sessions start on time, did the tutor ever cancel at short notice, what happened the week before the IA deadline, did your child's marks on school assessments move or just the mood, and would you book them again for a sibling. Vagueness on a call is informative in a way that vagueness in writing is not, and a tutor who cannot produce a single contactable parent after several years of teaching has told you something.

Qualifications are the awkward one, because you will never see the certificate. Ask in writing for the degree, the awarding university, the year, and the schools where they taught with the years attached, then verify at one remove: a university registry or an alumni verification service confirms a degree, and a school's own staff listing or a polite call to the front office confirms a posting. It is not rude if you say why. The sentence that works is simply that you check this for everyone before a term is booked, and a genuine teacher will offer the details before you finish asking.

  • Marked sample, screen-share trial, telephone reference, in that order
  • In the first five minutes, see who is holding the pen
  • Ask the reference about cancellations and the week before a deadline
  • Get the degree, university and year in writing, then verify at one remove
  • Say plainly that you check this for everyone; it stops being rude

The remote warning signs: no camera, old slides, and a term paid up front

Some signals only exist online, and each one has an innocent explanation that is worth exactly one hearing. A tutor who will not switch the camera on for the trial has told you the most important thing on this page, because teaching is a face-to-face act and the first session is when a student decides whether to admit confusion. Slides that clearly predate the current subject guide are the second signal: ask for the edition and the first assessment year, and if the deck still shows a retired topic or an old command-word list, the teaching is being delivered from memory of an older course. Vagueness about which syllabus they teach belongs in the same bracket, and so does a session that turns out to be a lecture.

Payment is the one that costs real money. Pressure to pay a term up front, before any marking has been seen or any trial watched, inverts the order of every check described here, and the reason it is pushed is that it works. The reasonable arrangement is a short cycle at the start, four sessions or a month, with the written basics agreed first and a longer commitment only after the first review. Anyone unwilling to teach four sessions on those terms is telling you how much confidence they have in the first four.

Time zones deserve plain speech rather than optimism. A tutor in the Gulf is an hour and a half behind Indian Standard Time and poses no real problem. One in London is four and a half or five and a half hours behind depending on the season, which turns a Mumbai seven o'clock evening slot into their early afternoon and is fine, while a Mumbai morning slot is impossible. One in Singapore or Melbourne is ahead, so your child's evening is their late night and the arrangement will quietly decay. Ask for the city, the local time of your proposed slot, and what happens when clocks change in March and October.

Then write down the basics, because they protect the tutor as much as the family. The written items are short: session length and weekly day and time, the rate and what it covers, how much notice cancels a session on either side, who is in the room with a minor and whether sessions are recorded, where the shared files live, and when the first review happens. Online makes these easier to forget and more expensive to have forgotten. What IB tuition fees in Mumbai turn out to be matters much less than whether both sides agreed, in writing, what a missed Tuesday costs.

  • No camera on the trial is the signal that should end the conversation
  • Ask for the subject guide edition and first assessment year, then check the deck
  • Refuse a term paid in advance; agree four sessions and a review
  • Get the tutor's city and the local time of your slot in writing
  • Agree notice periods, recording, file location and review date before session one

What checking cannot promise: four weeks, one term and one exam cycle in Mumbai

Verification buys you a competent, honest teacher. It does not buy a grade, and we do not guarantee one. At four weeks the only fair question is whether the diagnosis was right: the tutor should be able to name two or three specific weaknesses, show you where they appear in your child's work, and describe what is being done about each. Marks usually have not moved yet and should not be expected to. What should have changed is the quality of the conversation at home, from my child is bad at Physics to my child loses marks on uncertainty and on describing a method.

At one term, look for movement on school assessments rather than on the tutor's own exercises, and for one behaviour you can see: a draft started a week earlier, a question asked of the school teacher, a past paper attempted without being told. For a DP2 student that term includes the IA and Extended Essay crunch, so judge the term on how that period went, not on a single test score in a fortnight when nobody slept.

At one exam cycle the measure is the gap between predicted and final, and the honest framing is that many things sit outside a tutor's reach: the school's own teaching, illness in May, a paper that favours topics the student happened to dislike. A good tutor narrows the range of likely outcomes. Nobody controls the point inside it, and any promise otherwise should end the arrangement on the spot.

When it is not working, say so early and in writing. Tell us what you have observed, the sessions and the dates, and what you have already raised with the tutor. We take it up with them first, because a mismatch of pace or style is often fixable in one conversation, and replacing a teacher costs the student two weeks of continuity. If it is not fixable we move you, and the next tutor is briefed on what went wrong so you are not starting from the beginning. The same applies in reverse for IB home tuition in Mumbai: a tutor who cannot make a slot work is better off saying it in week two than in week ten.

  • Four weeks: a specific diagnosis you can see in the work, not marks
  • One term: movement on school assessments plus one visible change in habits
  • One exam cycle: a narrower range of outcomes, never a promised number
  • Report problems with dates and observations, not a general feeling
  • We raise it with the tutor first, then replace with a full briefing

Starting IB home tuition or online tuition in Mumbai: what to have ready

Have four things on the table before you write to us and the first week will do real work. One recent piece of marked written work, photographed page by page. The subject, level and board exactly as the school writes them, including HL or SL, or Core or Extended. Two time windows in the week that survive school, travel and whatever else your child does on a Thursday. And one sentence about what you actually want: a grade lifted, an IA rescued, a subject stopped from collapsing before the next tier decision.

The first session then has a job rather than a greeting. The tutor should spend most of it on your child's own work, finish by naming two or three specific gaps, and state what the next three sessions will cover. Ask for that in a message afterwards, not because tutors forget, but because a plan written down in week one is the thing you compare against in week six. If a tutor cannot produce three lines of plan after an hour with the script, that is a result too.

For families choosing online, run the checks in the order on this page and run them before the money moves: sample marking, a trial you watch, one telephone reference, the written basics. For families choosing a tutor in the room, the building logistics are worth settling in the same week, because gate passes, a standing visitor entry and a table that is not the dining table during dinner are what make a weekly slot survive to March.

A last piece of plain speech. IB Gram is an independent platform and is not affiliated with any school, examination board or international organisation named here, and no tutor on it can guarantee a grade. What we can do is make a teacher in another city as checkable as one who rings your doorbell, and then get out of the way while you decide.

  • Photograph one marked script page by page before you write in
  • Give the board, subject and level exactly as the school writes them
  • Name two weekly windows that survive school, travel and tuition already booked
  • Ask for three lines of plan in writing after the first session
  • Settle gate passes and the study table in the same week
FAQs

Mumbai tutoring — questions parents ask

Can I ask a tutor to mark one of my child's scripts before I pay anything?+

Yes, and you should ask every candidate on the shortlist. Send one recent piece of work, ideally without the school's marks visible, and ask two questions: what band would this get, and why that band rather than the one above. A teacher who marks regularly replies in criteria and quotes your child's own sentences. A weaker candidate praises the effort and talks about structure without naming a single descriptor. Sending the same script to two tutors and reading the replies side by side is the cheapest and most informative check available to a parent, and it takes an evening.

A neighbour recommended our last tutor. How do I replace that when the teacher lives in another city?+

You replace it with one telephone reference and one trial you watch, because the neighbour signal does not exist online and pretending otherwise is how families get caught. Ask the tutor for a parent of a current or recent student, with a phone number, and call. Then watch a screen-share session yourself rather than reading a review. Between them these two checks cover most of what a neighbour was actually telling you: that the person turns up, that they are pleasant to a teenager, and that someone trusted them for long enough to have an opinion.

What exactly should I ask the reference once I have them on the phone?+

Ask small, factual questions rather than for an overall verdict. Did sessions start on time. Did the tutor cancel at short notice, and how often. What happened in the week before an IA or coursework deadline. Did marks on school assessments move, or only the mood at home. Would you book them again for a younger sibling. Vagueness on a live call is informative in a way that a written testimonial never is, and a hesitation before the sibling question tells you more than ten minutes of praise. Keep the call short and take notes.

The tutor will not switch the camera on for the trial. Is that really a problem?+

Yes, and it is the one signal we would act on immediately. A first session is where a student decides whether it is safe to admit confusion, and that decision is made by reading a face. A tutor who teaches an audio-only trial has either something to hide about who is teaching or a view of teaching that will not work for a thirteen-year-old. Bandwidth is a fair explanation once, so offer a different time and ask again. If the camera stays off the second time, move on; there are other candidates and this one has answered the question.

How do I verify a degree or a school posting without being rude about it?+

Say why you are asking and the awkwardness disappears. The line that works is that you check this for everyone before booking a term. Ask in writing for the degree, the awarding university, the year, and each school with the years attached. A university registry or an alumni verification service will confirm a degree, and a school's own staff page or a polite call to the front office confirms a posting. Genuine teachers usually volunteer the details before you finish the sentence. The ones who treat the question as an insult have given you useful information at no cost.

What do IB tuition fees in Mumbai depend on, since nobody will quote a figure?+

Five things, and we will tell you which apply to your request rather than publish a tariff. The board and level, because HL and Extended tier need a narrower specialist. The scarcity of the subject, which is the biggest single factor and the reason HL Chemistry costs more than MYP English. The length and frequency of sessions. Whether the tutor travels to you, and how far, since an hour on the Western Express Highway is an hour nobody teaches in. And the time of year, because a specialist's remaining slots in January are not the same proposition as in July.

Does a home tutor in Mumbai still make sense when online opens up the whole country?+

Often, yes, and we will say so when it applies. For PYP, MYP and Core-tier IGCSE students, and for any child who quietly stops working when nobody is in the room, having a teacher at the table beats a wider choice of teacher. The checks are also almost free: you see the session, you see your child's face, and you hear whether the hour was teaching or company. Going online earns its keep when the subject is scarce, the level is high, or the deadline is close enough that travel time is the thing you cannot afford.

We live in a society off Ghodbunder Road and evening travel is slow. Should we go online?+

Probably for the specialist subjects and not for the rest. A tutor living near Thane station reaches Kasarvadavali in about twenty minutes off peak and close to an hour at seven in the evening, so a weekday slot that depends on that stretch tends to collapse by November whatever was agreed in June. For mainstream subjects, match within Thane, towards Pokhran Road or Majiwada, and keep the tutor in the room. For an HL science or a second language, take the online session and spend the saved travel hour on the work instead.

The tutor is outside India. How do we handle time zones without a weekly argument?+

Fix the slot in both cities' local time, in writing, and ask what happens when clocks change. A tutor in the Gulf is ninety minutes behind Indian Standard Time and causes nobody trouble. London is four and a half or five and a half hours behind depending on the season, so your evening is their afternoon and that works, while a morning slot does not. Singapore or Melbourne is ahead, meaning your child's evening is the tutor's late night, and those arrangements decay quietly. Ask directly, and expect the answer to be specific rather than reassuring.

My child's tutor uses slides. How would I know if the material is out of date?+

Ask for the subject guide edition and the first assessment year the tutor teaches from, then look at the deck for retired topics and old command-word lists. Both boards revise syllabuses, and a teacher working from memory of the previous course will cover something that no longer appears and miss something that now does. A current teacher names the edition without hesitating and will usually mention what changed. Slides are not the problem in themselves; slides that advance for fifty minutes while your child holds nothing and writes nothing are a different problem entirely.

Will a home tutor come to our building for a weekday evening slot in the Western Suburbs?+

Usually yes, if the match is made along the Western Line rather than across the city. Khar West to Santacruz West or Malad to Kandivali works well; Chembur to Andheri West at six in the evening does not, whatever the map says, because the Santacruz Chembur Link Road and the Western Express Highway are the deciding factors. Settle the building side in the first week: a standing visitor entry at the gate so the tutor is not held at security every Tuesday, a named family contact, and a table away from the television. Those three things keep a slot alive to March.

Four weeks in, nothing has changed. What do we do now?+

Write to us with dates, what you have observed and what you have already said to the tutor. At four weeks marks are rarely the right measure, so the first question is whether the diagnosis was correct: can the tutor name two or three specific gaps and show them to you in the work. If they can, give it the rest of the term with a written plan. If they cannot, that is a mismatch rather than a slow start. We raise it with the tutor first, since pace and style problems often resolve in one conversation, and replace them if not, briefing the next tutor on what went wrong.
