1 to 1 IB Tutor in Mumbai

A 1 to 1 IB tutor in Mumbai earns their place in the first six sessions, not the first six months. This page maps what those six home tuition sessions should establish, in order: what your child can do unaided, where the understanding stops, and what the plan to fix it actually is.

How does IB Gram shortlist a 1 to 1 IB tutor in Mumbai before anyone has diagnosed anything?

IB Gram shortlists on three facts you already have: the exact programme and year your child is in, the subject and the level, and the part of Mumbai a tutor has to reach on a weekday evening. The diagnosis itself is the tutor's first job, not a filter we apply beforehand. Nobody can tell you what is wrong from a message.

What a parent sends us is almost always a symptom. The Chemistry grade dropped from a 5 to a 4. The Mathematics Analysis and Approaches mock went badly. The Economics internal assessment draft came back with a comment the student could not explain. We do not try to interpret that remotely, because a symptom described over a phone call is not a diagnosis, and a tutor who agrees with your interpretation before meeting your child has only flattered you. So the shortlist optimises for diagnostic range instead: a tutor who has taught the subject at both Higher Level and Standard Level, who has seen the published criteria applied by more than one school, and who is willing to spend a paid session asking questions rather than explaining.

Travel is the second filter and it is unglamorous. A home tutor who needs eighty minutes each way will cancel in July, however good the match looked in April. We match inside the zone first: Khar to Santacruz along the Western Line, Chembur to Govandi on the Harbour Line, Vashi to Nerul along Palm Beach Road. Crossing the city for a standing weekday evening lesson is offered only when the subject is scarce enough to justify it, and we say that out loud before you meet anyone.

You then speak to each shortlisted tutor yourself, and the useful question is not what their results are. It is how they plan to find out what is wrong. A tutor who answers with a syllabus plan has misunderstood the request. A tutor who answers with a sequence, starting with watching your child attempt something unaided, has done this before. Parents who search for the best IB tutor in Mumbai are usually asking something sharper than they realise: they want the one who will locate the actual obstruction. IB Gram is an independent platform and is not affiliated with any school named on this page, so nothing in the shortlist depends on where your child studies.

  • 1. Send the programme, year, subject, level and your Mumbai locality
  • 2. We shortlist tutors with diagnostic range in that exact subject
  • 3. You speak to each one and ask how they will diagnose
  • 4. Session one is a diagnostic, paid, and produces written notes
  • 5. By session six you get a problem, a plan and a timeline

Which programme your child is in, and what a Mumbai tutor must establish in week one

Before anything is taught, a tutor has to pin down which of four structures your child sits inside, because each one hides a different kind of gap. The Primary Years Programme (PYP) is inquiry-led and does not produce the sort of grades parents expect to read, so the opening sessions are about reading stamina and number fluency rather than marks. The Middle Years Programme (MYP) marks against four criteria per subject on an eight-point scale, and a student can score well on one criterion and badly on another for two years without anyone naming it. The International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) splits into Core and Extended tiers with different papers and different grade ceilings. The Diploma Programme (DP) adds Higher Level (HL) and Standard Level (SL), an Internal Assessment (IA) in every subject, the Extended Essay (EE) and Theory of Knowledge (TOK).

The practical consequence is that the same complaint means different things. A Mumbai parent saying she is weak in Maths about an MYP Year 4 student is usually describing criterion C, communicating, where the working is correct but unreadable and the marks go anyway. The same sentence about a DP1 student in Mathematics Analysis and Approaches HL is usually about algebraic fluency carried up from IGCSE and never repaired. A tutor who does not establish the programme in the first session will spend three sessions solving the wrong problem, and you will pay for all three.

Transfer students make this harder, and Mumbai has a lot of them. A child moving from a state board or CBSE school into IGCSE Year 9 at a school in the Western Suburbs arrives with strong procedural arithmetic and almost no experience of a question that asks them to explain. A child moving from MYP into IGCSE mid-stage arrives with the opposite problem: comfortable explaining, shaky on speed and accuracy. Neither child is weak. Both will be called weak by the end of the first term if nobody establishes what changed. The opening sessions exist to catch precisely this.

Core and Extended, and HL and SL, are decisions with real deadlines, and they should be made from evidence rather than ambition. An IB home tutor in Mumbai who has taught both tiers can tell you by session four whether Extended Mathematics is realistic in the time remaining, because they will have watched your child attempt an Extended-tier question cold with nobody helping. That is a different kind of answer from the one a school subject adviser gives, and both are worth having before the form is signed.

  • PYP: fluency and reading stamina drive the diagnosis, not grades
  • MYP: four criteria per subject, each capable of failing independently
  • IGCSE: Core and Extended carry different papers and grade ceilings
  • DP: HL and SL, plus an IA in every subject, the EE and TOK
  • Transfer students need the change named before anyone says weak

Session two: why is a Year 12 calculus problem usually a Year 10 problem?

Because calculus assumes algebra that was never secured. A DP1 student who cannot differentiate a quotient is rarely confused about differentiation. They are confused about index laws, or about simplifying a rational expression, and the quotient rule simply exposes it. Session two of a diagnostic arc goes looking for that gap behind the gap rather than reteaching the topic the school taught last week.

The pattern repeats across subjects and the common versions are worth knowing. In Chemistry, a DP student losing marks on equilibrium is usually unable to rearrange an expression or handle a logarithm, not unable to state Le Chatelier's principle. In Physics, failed circuit questions are often failed simultaneous equations. In Economics, a thin evaluation paragraph is usually a student who can define elasticity perfectly and has never been shown what the command word evaluate actually requires of them. In English, a Paper 1 guided analysis that reads as summary is a student nobody taught to write about choice rather than content. None of these are fixed by more practice on the topic where the marks were lost.

This is why subject choice across both boards, and the HL and SL or Core and Extended decision that follows it, cannot be separated from diagnosis. The internal assessments each subject carries are where unsecured foundations become visible and expensive: the Mathematics exploration needs a student who can pose a question and defend a method, the Physics IA needs uncertainty handling, which is arithmetic, and the History IA needs source evaluation, which nobody practises by accident. A home tutor for all IB and IGCSE subjects Mumbai schools teach does not exist, and you should not want one. Depth lives in one or two subjects. Across all IB and IGCSE subjects a tutor in Mumbai may be asked to cover, though, the diagnosis follows the same shape: find the prerequisite, not the topic.

Session two is also where a tutor should stop trusting the report card. A Year 11 IGCSE student with a strong predicted grade in Biology can still be unable to draw a conclusion from an unfamiliar graph, because the prediction came from topic tests on taught content. The diagnostic move is always the same: give them something they have not seen, sit quietly, resist the urge to help, and watch where they stop. Where they stop is the lesson plan for sessions three to six.

  • Differentiation failures are usually index-law failures from two years earlier
  • Equilibrium marks are lost to algebra, not to Le Chatelier
  • Command words such as evaluate and justify are taught, never absorbed
  • Every IA exposes one prerequisite skill nobody practised deliberately
  • Predicted grades come from taught content, so they hide unfamiliar-question gaps

IB home tuition across the six zones of Mumbai: who can actually reach you weekly

A diagnostic arc only works if the same tutor turns up six weeks running, which in Mumbai is a transport question before it is a teaching question. A 1 to 1 IB tutor in Mumbai who has to cross the city twice a week will miss session four, and session four is the one that cannot be skipped. We match within zones, and these are the six zones we work across.

In South Mumbai, families in Colaba, Cuffe Parade, Walkeshwar, Tardeo, Peddar Road and Worli deal with short distances and slow signals: the Haji Ali and Peddar Road junctions can absorb forty minutes in the evening peak on an eight-kilometre run, so tutors here are matched inside the island rather than brought down from the suburbs. The Western Line runs Churchgate to Grant Road and Mumbai Central, the Harbour Line covers CSMT, Dockyard and Sewri, Metro Line 3 links Cuffe Parade towards BKC, and the Coastal Road has changed the Worli run more than anything else in a decade. The Western Suburbs stretch from Bandra and Khar through Santacruz, Juhu, Andheri, Goregaon, Malad, Kandivali, Borivali and Dahisar, and matching works along the Western Line rather than across it. Khar to Santacruz is routine. Malad to Kandivali is routine. Bandra to Andheri at six in the evening on the Western Express Highway is not. Metro Line 1 carries Versova to Ghatkopar, and Metro Lines 2A and 7 now run Dahisar to Andheri and Gundavali.

The Central Suburbs sit on the Central Line from Kurla to Mulund with the Eastern Express Highway beside it, and Powai and Chandivali hanging off JVLR in between. Powai is the exception worth knowing: it is geographically central and has no station of its own, so a tutor reaches Hiranandani Gardens by road from Andheri East, Kanjurmarg or Ghatkopar, and the SCLR decides whether that is twenty minutes or fifty. The Eastern Suburbs run from Chembur and Govandi up through Vikhroli and Bhandup to Mulund on the Central and Harbour lines, and the Eastern Freeway puts Wadala and Chembur far closer to the island city than the map suggests. The Monorail between Chembur and Wadala is more useful to tutors than parents expect.

Navi Mumbai is planned in nodes, so Vashi, Nerul, Belapur, Kharghar and Panvel are each a short drive from the next along Palm Beach Road and the Sion to Panvel Highway. The Atal Setu has shortened the creek crossing without turning it into a sensible weekday commute for a tutor, so we match node to node. Thane spreads from the station eastward along Pokhran Road, Majiwada and Ghodbunder Road, and Ghodbunder Road sets the timetable: from near the station to Kasarvadavali is twenty minutes off-peak and close to an hour at seven in the evening. Thane tutors cover Thane, and Mulund tutors sometimes cross over. This is Mumbai, Maharashtra at its most literal: geography decides who can commit to six consecutive weeks, and a plan that ignores it collapses in the monsoon.

  • South Mumbai: matched inside the island, Colaba to Worli, not from suburbs
  • Western Suburbs: match along the line, Khar to Santacruz, Malad to Kandivali
  • Central Suburbs: Powai has no station, so JVLR and the SCLR set the timing
  • Eastern Suburbs: the Eastern Freeway puts Chembur closer to Fort than expected
  • Navi Mumbai: node to node on Palm Beach Road, Vashi through Panvel
  • Thane: Ghodbunder Road decides a twenty minute run or an hour

What the Mumbai school calendar does to a six-session diagnostic run

Timing matters because a diagnostic arc needs six uninterrupted weeks, and the Mumbai international school year offers only a few clean windows. Most IB and IGCSE schools here run from June to March or April. The usable diagnostic windows are late June to mid-August, and early January for a student who has just had mock results and a reason to listen.

The pressure points are predictable enough to plan around. October and November bring MYP interim reports and IGCSE mock preparation together. December and January are when DP2 internal assessment final deadlines cluster, and a DP2 student at Dhirubhai Ambani International School in BKC or at Cathedral and John Connon School in Fort can face a Physics IA, a Mathematics exploration and a Theory of Knowledge essay inside the same fortnight. February and March belong to the May examination session and the IGCSE series. Starting a diagnosis in February is possible, but you are no longer diagnosing, you are triaging, and the tutor should say that plainly instead of selling you six sessions of something else under the same name.

The schools themselves set expectations a tutor needs to recognise. Ecole Mondiale World School in Juhu runs PYP, MYP and DP, so a student there may have been assessed against MYP criteria for five years before meeting a DP rubric for the first time. Hiranandani Foundation School in Powai and Oberoi International School on JVLR produce students used to internal deadlines being enforced. B.D. Somani International School in Cuffe Parade, Bombay International School at Babulnath and Aditya Birla World Academy in Tardeo sit within a few kilometres of each other and still mark drafts to noticeably different levels of strictness. In Navi Mumbai, D.Y. Patil International School in Nerul and, in Thane, Smt. Sulochanadevi Singhania School run calendars that do not line up with the island city's.

Naming these schools is local context and nothing more. IB Gram is an independent platform, not affiliated with any of them, and no tutor on the platform speaks for a school or sees its internal marking. What a good tutor does carry is a working memory of how a particular school phrases its IA guidance, which matters in session four when the first marked piece is compared against the published criteria. We also do not guarantee grades, and a tutor who hints that a school connection will produce one is telling you something that is not true.

  • June to mid-August is the cleanest six-week diagnostic window here
  • October and November: MYP reports and IGCSE mock preparation collide
  • December and January: DP2 IA deadlines cluster inside single fortnights
  • February onward is triage, not diagnosis, and should be named so
  • Schools a kilometre apart mark the same draft to different strictness

Should the first six sessions be home tuition, online or hybrid in Mumbai?

Home tuition, for the first two sessions at least. The diagnostic opening depends on watching a student work, and watching means seeing the hand, the rough page, and the moment they stop writing and look up. A 1 to 1 IB tutor in Mumbai sitting at your dining table catches things a camera does not.

The reason is specific rather than sentimental. In session one the tutor is trying to see unaided working: how the student lays out a page, whether they re-read the question, whether they abandon a method halfway, whether they check anything at all before moving on. Over a video call the student presents a finished answer or a photograph of one, and the most informative part of the session, the twenty seconds of hesitation before they commit to a method, is invisible. IB home tuition in Mumbai is the right default for sessions one and two for that reason alone.

Online earns its place later. By session three the tutor knows what they are looking for, and an IB online tutor in Mumbai can be genuinely better for a targeted review: a shared document for an IA draft, a screen-recorded worked solution the student replays twice, a twenty-five minute check that would never justify a Ghodbunder Road round trip. Hybrid is what most families settle into by week four, with home classes for the sessions that need watching and online for the ones that need marking. The trade-offs are real in both directions. Online loses the diagnostic gaze, depends on your building's connection, and makes a distracted student easier to lose. Home tuition costs travel time, which shows up in availability and sometimes in fees.

What does not work is diagnosing online because the tutor lives too far away to come. If no tutor within reasonable travel of your part of the city teaches that subject at that level, it is better to know before you start than after session two has produced nothing. The split works across all IB and IGCSE subjects home classes Mumbai families book, from IGCSE Core Mathematics to DP History HL. We would rather tell you that Economics HL has a thin pool near Kharghar and offer a strong online option from the beginning than pretend a weekly Panvel visit will survive a full term.

  • Sessions one and two at home: the tutor needs to watch the hand
  • Online from session three suits IA drafts and short targeted reviews
  • Hybrid by week four: home classes for watching, online for marking
  • Online loses hesitation, the most informative diagnostic signal there is
  • Home tuition costs travel time, which shows in availability and fees

What should a 1 to 1 IB tutor in Mumbai be able to tell you after six sessions?

Four things, in plain language: what the problem is, what the plan is, roughly how long it will take, and what the student has to do between sessions. A 1 to 1 IB tutor in Mumbai who cannot answer all four after six sessions has been teaching without diagnosing, and you are entitled to say exactly that.

Before you get there, it helps to know what IB Gram checks and what you should check yourself. We verify identity, confirm the subjects and levels a tutor claims to teach, ask for the specifics of their experience with each board rather than a general claim, and remove tutors parents report for missed sessions or for marking that cannot be explained. What a profile cannot show is diagnostic habit, and diagnostic habit is the thing that decides whether your six sessions were worth paying for.

So check it yourself, cheaply, twice. After session one, ask the tutor what your child can do unaided. A vague answer, that the basics are weak, means nothing was observed. A specific one, that she can factorise but writes the method out of order and loses the sign on the second line, means something was. After session four, ask to see the marked piece and the criterion it was marked against, then ask your child what mark they would have given it themselves. If your child cannot guess within a band, the marking was done to them rather than with them, and that is worth fixing before session five.

If a tutor is not working out, say so early and say it precisely. Write to IB Gram with what the tutor has not established, not simply that the fit feels wrong, and we will shortlist a replacement and pass on the diagnostic notes so the new tutor does not restart from session one. We do not guarantee grades, and no amount of verification changes that. What verification buys you is a tutor who will tell you the truth at week six rather than at week twenty.

  • Ask after session one what your child can do unaided
  • A specific named weakness beats any sentence about weak basics
  • Ask after session four for the marked piece and its criterion
  • A student who cannot guess their own band was not involved
  • A replacement carries the diagnostic notes forward, not a blank page

The six-session diagnostic arc, session by session

Session one: find out what the student can do unaided. The tutor should talk for less than a third of the session. They set work the student has not seen, pitched slightly above comfort, and then they watch. The output is not a topic list, it is a note about where the understanding stops, which is a different place from where the marks were lost. A student can lose marks in the final line of a mechanics question and have stopped understanding at the free-body diagram. Marking the paper finds the first. Watching the student finds the second.

Session two: the gap behind the gap. The tutor takes the stopping point from session one and probes backwards until the student is fluent again. A Year 12 struggling with calculus is often missing something from Year 10, and the honest version of this session is sometimes uncomfortable, because the answer may be that a DP1 Chemistry student needs a fortnight on mole calculations before equilibrium is worth touching at all. Session three: establish how the student works between sessions, and set the first real task. The tutor should ask to see the actual notebook, the actual folder, and the actual place they study, and then set one task with a stated success criterion. Not revise chapter four. Something closer to: do these six questions, mark them against this scheme, and bring me the two you got wrong with a sentence on why.

Session four is the hinge of the whole arc. The student brings a piece of work, the tutor marks it against the published criteria rather than against a feeling, and then has the first honest conversation about where the student stands. This is where a great deal of tuition quietly fails, because the conversation gets softened. It should not be. If an MYP Year 5 student is sitting at a criterion B 4 and wants a 7, the tutor says so and then says what a 6 looks like in that specific criterion. If an IGCSE student is a full grade away with two terms left, they say that too. Sessions five and six turn the diagnosis into a plan with a visible end point: a short list of what gets fixed, in what order, by roughly when, and the student beginning to mark their own work against the same criteria the school uses. Self-marking is the real target. A student who can predict their own band has internalised the standard, and that is what survives after the tutor stops coming.

It is worth being clear about what it means if a tutor cannot do this. If after six sessions the answer to what is the problem is still that he needs more practice, the sessions have been homework supervision. That has value for some families and should be described and priced as that, not as tuition. An IB private tutor Mumbai families hire for six weeks is being paid to locate an obstruction, not to re-deliver a syllabus. And a tutor who starts teaching content in minute one of session one has skipped the diagnosis entirely: they are teaching the course the school already teaches, to a student whose specific obstruction nobody has bothered to find. It feels productive, the student follows along, the hour passes pleasantly, and three months later the grade has not moved. The reason is almost always that the gap behind the gap was never located.

  • 1. Session one: watch unaided work, locate where understanding stops
  • 2. Session two: probe backwards until the student is fluent again
  • 3. Session three: see the notebook, set one task with a success criterion
  • 4. Session four: mark against the published criteria, then say where they stand
  • 5. Sessions five and six: a plan with an end point, plus self-marking

What progress looks like at four weeks, one term and one exam cycle

At four weeks, which is roughly the six-session arc run twice a week, the honest deliverable is clarity rather than improvement. You should know what the problem is and have a plan with an end point. The student should be doing something different between sessions. Grades usually have not moved yet, and a tutor claiming otherwise at four weeks is reporting noise as signal.

At one term you should see movement in the things the plan targeted, and that movement will be uneven. A student whose diagnosis was algebraic fluency shows it first in Mathematics and later, confusingly, in Physics and Chemistry, because the fluency has to transfer before it is visible. A student whose diagnosis was command-word comprehension shows it in short structured answers before essays. What you should also see at one term is the student self-marking without being asked, and being approximately right. If they are still surprised by every mark that comes back, the standard has not been internalised, and the plan needs revisiting rather than extending.

At one exam cycle, an IGCSE series or a May DP session, the measure is whether the predicted and actual grades converged and whether the student could have told you beforehand roughly where they would land. The second of those is worth more than it sounds. A student who predicts their own result accurately can revise usefully for the next thing with nobody in the room, which is the only exit from tuition that is not simply stopping.

The limits are real and worth stating. We do not guarantee grades, and nobody honestly can: the student does the work, the school sets most of the context, and an examination session carries moderation and timing effects outside anyone's control. A diagnosis can be correct and the plan can still fail because the between-session tasks were skipped, and when that happens the tutor should tell you plainly instead of quietly adding sessions. Subject scarcity is another limit. A few subjects, Further Mathematics HL among them, have a thin pool anywhere in the city, and the honest answer is sometimes that the strongest available option is online.

  • Four weeks: a diagnosis and a plan, not a grade change
  • One term: uneven movement, starting with whatever the plan targeted
  • One term: the student self-marks unprompted and is roughly right
  • One exam cycle: predicted and actual converge, and the student saw it coming
  • A correct diagnosis still fails if between-session tasks are skipped

Starting IB home tuition in Mumbai: what to have ready before session one

Four things make session one useful instead of introductory: the last two pieces of marked work with the marker's comments intact, the school's assessment calendar for the term, one honest sentence from your child about what they find hard, and a table with a chair in a room where a door closes. That is the whole list.

The marked work matters most, and parents usually send the good pieces. Send the bad ones. A tutor learns more from a question left blank than from one answered well, because a blank is a decision and the reasons behind it are diagnostic. If the comments have been torn off, or the script went back to school, the tutor will set their own work in session one instead, which costs you part of a session you have already paid for.

On logistics, tell us the realistic weekday window rather than the ideal one. A parent in Kandivali East who says seven in the evening and means seven-thirty is setting a tutor up to be late every week on the Western Express Highway. Tell us whether your society needs a visitor pass arranged for a standing weekly slot, because a tutor held at the gate for fifteen minutes of a ninety-minute session has lost a sixth of it. And tell us whether a parent will be at home, which changes how some students behave, usually for the better in the early years and not always in DP.

What happens next is short. You send the programme, year, subject, level and locality. We shortlist tutors who can reach you weekly and who teach that subject at that level. You speak to them and ask how they intend to diagnose. Session one then happens at your home. IB tuition fees in Mumbai depend on the board, the level, how scarce the subject is, the travel distance and the session length, and the tutor quotes before session one rather than after it. Typing IB tutors near me from Mumbai gives you a list sorted by distance, not by diagnostic habit, which is why the question you ask on that first call matters more than the shortlist itself.

  • Bring the two worst marked pieces, with the marker's comments intact
  • Have the school's assessment calendar for the term to hand
  • Arrange the society visitor pass for a standing weekly slot
  • Name the realistic evening window, not the ideal one
  • A table, a chair and a door that closes is enough space
FAQs

Mumbai tutoring — questions parents ask

Why should the first session be a diagnosis rather than teaching?+

Because teaching before diagnosing means teaching the course the school already teaches. A diagnostic session finds the specific obstruction: not the topic where marks were lost, but the earlier idea where understanding stopped. A DP1 student failing integration questions may have stopped at index laws two years earlier, and no quantity of integration practice repairs that. One session spent watching a student work unaided usually saves three spent explaining things they already half-knew. A 1 to 1 IB tutor in Mumbai who starts teaching content in minute one has decided what is wrong without looking.

What should a tutor be able to tell me after six sessions?+

Four things, stated plainly: what the problem is, what the plan is, roughly how long it will take, and what your child has to do between sessions. If any of the four is missing after six sessions, those sessions were teaching rather than diagnosis. He needs more practice is not a problem statement. She can set up a moles calculation but loses the unit conversion, and that is costing the last two marks on every structured question, is one. Ask for it in writing. A tutor who has actually diagnosed will have no trouble producing it.

Our grades have not moved after four weeks of 1 to 1 IB tuition in Mumbai. Is that normal?+

Yes, at four weeks that is normal and expected. The honest deliverable at four weeks is clarity: a named problem, a plan with an end point, and a change in what your child does between sessions. Grade movement usually needs a full term, because the fix has to transfer into unfamiliar questions under time pressure before it shows. What should worry you at four weeks is the absence of a diagnosis, not the absence of a grade. If nobody can tell you the specific obstruction by session six, raise it then instead of waiting for the next report.

What exactly happens in session four, and why does it matter so much?+

Session four is the first marked piece against the published criteria and the first honest conversation about where your child stands. The tutor marks the work against the actual rubric rather than a general impression, then tells the student which band they are in and what the next band requires in that specific criterion. It matters because this is the point most tuition softens. A student told they are at an MYP criterion B 4 and shown what a 6 looks like can act on it. A student told they are improving nicely cannot.

Will a tutor travel to our building in the Western Suburbs on a weekday evening?+

Usually yes, provided the match is made within the zone rather than across the city. A home tutor living near Khar or Santacruz will hold a seven o'clock slot in Bandra or Juhu for a full term. One travelling from Chembur across the SCLR in the evening peak starts cancelling by the second month. Tell us the realistic window and your exact locality and we shortlist accordingly. If your society needs a visitor pass for a standing weekly slot, arrange it before session one so the tutor is not held at the gate.

Do we need to arrange society gate access and a study space?+

Yes to both, and the second matters more than parents expect. A standing weekly visitor pass saves ten to fifteen minutes a session, which across a six-session arc adds up to most of a session. For space, a table, a chair and a room where a door closes is enough. A dining table with the television on in the same room is not, because session one depends on watching a student concentrate. If your society has a clubhouse study room, book a fixed slot and tell the tutor which block to report to at the gate.

What do IB tuition fees in Mumbai depend on?+

Fees depend on five things: the board, the level, how scarce the subject is, the travel distance involved and the session length. IGCSE Core sits below DP Higher Level. A widely taught subject sits below Further Mathematics HL or a less common second language. A tutor crossing Ghodbunder Road in the evening prices that travel in. Online sessions carry no travel at all. We do not publish a price list, because a single figure would be wrong for most families, and the tutor quotes you before session one rather than after it.

Is online tutoring good enough for the diagnostic sessions?+

For sessions one and two, sitting in the room is better, and the reason is narrow rather than general. The most informative part of a diagnostic session is the pause before a student commits to a method, and over video you are shown a finished answer or a photograph of one instead. From session three onward, once the tutor knows what they are hunting for, online is often the better choice: a shared document for an IA draft, a recorded worked solution the student can replay, a short targeted check that would not justify a round trip across the city.

We are in Navi Mumbai and the subject pool looks thin. What then?+

Say so early and take the honest answer. Nodes like Vashi, Nerul, Belapur and Kharghar have reasonable coverage for mainstream subjects and genuinely thin pools for some HL sciences and second languages. Pulling a tutor across the Atal Setu or up from the island city for a weekday evening lesson rarely survives a full term. We would rather offer a strong online tutor from session one, and arrange the first two sessions in person with a local subject generalist, than promise a weekly visit that quietly collapses in July.

The tutor is not working out. How does a replacement happen without starting over?+

Write to us with what the tutor has not established, rather than only that the fit feels wrong, and we shortlist a replacement and pass on the diagnostic notes. Writing it precisely is what buys continuity: four sessions in and he still cannot tell me what the specific gap is lets the next tutor skip ground already covered. A replacement should not restart from session one. Ask the new tutor to confirm or correct the previous diagnosis inside their first session instead of building a fresh one from nothing.

My child is transferring boards mid-stage. Does the diagnostic arc change?+

The sequence stays the same, but session two carries more weight than usual. A student moving from CBSE into IGCSE Year 9 at a school here usually arrives with strong procedural arithmetic and little practice at questions that ask them to explain. A student moving from MYP into IGCSE arrives with the reverse. Neither is weak, and both get labelled weak by the end of the first term if nobody names what changed. The tutor's job in session two is to separate a genuine knowledge gap from an unfamiliar assessment style.

Can we run the six sessions over three weeks instead of six?+

You can, and twice a week is often better for a student who is already behind, but there is a floor. Session three sets the first real between-session task and session four marks what comes back, so you need at least a few days between those two for any independent work to happen. Compressing the whole arc into a single week makes session four meaningless, because there is nothing new to mark. Twice weekly across three weeks works. Four sessions over one weekend does not, and a tutor who agrees to it has not thought about what session three is for.

Send us the programme, year, subject, level and your part of Mumbai. We shortlist tutors who teach that subject at that level and can reach you weekly, and you speak to each one before committing to anything. Ask them how they will diagnose, not what their results are. A 1 to 1 IB tuition arrangement in Mumbai should hand you a written problem, plan and timeline by session six, and you can say so upfront.
