IB and IGCSE Tutors and Private Tuition from Home in Motihari

Looking for home tuition in Motihari for an IB or IGCSE course usually ends the same way: nobody local teaches it, so the lesson has to arrive by screen. IB Gram sends a tutor who has taught your child's precise syllabus, live and one to one, into your home over video, whether you live near Chhatauni, Bapudham or out towards Areraj.

  • A tutor who already teaches your child's exact IB or IGCSE course, not a general subject teacher
  • Live video lessons only; tutors do not travel to Motihari homes
  • A no-cost first lesson to test the fit

IB & IGCSE in Motihari

What IB and IGCSE tuition at home looks like in Motihari

Anyone who has walked past Motijheel lake in the evening knows Motihari as a place with its own history: Gandhi began his Champaran Satyagraha in this district in 1917, George Orwell was born here in 1903, and Mahatma Gandhi Central University now gives the town a proper campus. What the town does not have, as far as we could confirm, is a school teaching the IB or a Cambridge or Edexcel IGCSE syllabus. That single fact shapes everything on this page.

So home tuition here is delivered online. A tutor logs in from another Indian city, the student sits at a desk in Motihari with a laptop, and the two work through the course together, one to one. Tutors do not visit homes in Motihari; home visits are offered only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR. The gain is choice. A family in East Champaran can hold out for a tutor who has taught HL Chemistry or Extended Mathematics before, instead of taking whoever lives nearby.

The families who ask us are a mixed lot. Some are Bihari professionals who left for Bengaluru, Pune or the Gulf and returned to look after parents. Some are planning to send a child to a boarding campus in Dehradun, Mussoorie or the NCR and want the syllabus familiar in advance. A few are simply ambitious households who see a Cambridge certificate as an early step towards study in the UK or Canada.

IB Gram works independently of the International Baccalaureate, Cambridge, Pearson and every school or university named here. Tutors teach and coach; they do not write internal assessments, Extended Essays, Theory of Knowledge essays or coursework on a student's behalf.

At a glance

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to Motihari school years

In a district where almost every child studies under the Bihar School Examination Board or CBSE, an international programme is usually a deliberate choice or a carry-over from elsewhere. The four IB stages below describe what a Motihari tutor is actually asked to do at each one.

PYPAges 3-12, Nursery to Class 5

IB Primary Years Programme

Six themes such as sharing the planet replace a conventional subject list, and children finish with a self-directed Exhibition. Early tutoring is about reading, arithmetic and asking good questions.

A PYP request from Motihari nearly always means a child who began the programme in another city; the aim is to stop the inquiry habit fading during a family move.

MYPAges 11-16, Class 6 to 10

IB Middle Years Programme

Teachers mark against published criteria rather than a single total, and the final year adds a Personal Project. Students learn to explain their reasoning, not only reach an answer.

With no MYP classroom nearby, a Motihari student depends on a tutor to translate the criteria into plain language and show what a strong response looks like.

DPAges 16-19, Class 11 and 12

IB Diploma Programme

Students take six subjects across three Higher and three Standard Level courses, plus the Extended Essay, TOK and CAS. External exams and internal assessments together decide the diploma score.

Most Diploma questions from East Champaran come from families with medicine, engineering or civil-service ambitions, so science and Mathematics dominate.

CPAges 16-19, Class 11 and 12

IB Career-related Programme

A few Diploma courses sit alongside a career-related study and a reflective project. It suits students who lean towards applied or vocational routes.

We know of no school in or around Motihari offering the CP, so tutoring here means support for the academic courses inside it.

Subject coverage

IB subjects we tutor

Tell us the exact course and level your child has chosen. A student in Applications and Interpretation Mathematics SL needs a different teacher from one in Analysis and Approaches HL, and we match accordingly.

IB Maths Analysis & Approaches

HL / SL

Students who like proof and algebra do well here; lessons alternate between fresh theory and timed problem sets, with the internal exploration begun early.

IB Maths Applications & Interpretation

HL / SL

Real data, regression and probability models feature heavily, so tutoring covers technology use as much as method.

IB Physics

HL / SL

Kinematics, thermal physics, fields and quantum topics are practised as numerical problems, with graph skills for the investigation.

IB Chemistry

HL / SL

Equilibrium, acid-base work and organic reaction routes get the most repetition, alongside careful handling of significant figures.

IB Biology

HL / SL

Terminology accuracy separates marks, so sessions rehearse definitions and the exact meaning of command words such as outline and evaluate.

IB Economics

HL / SL

Correct diagrams and one sharp sentence explaining each are the priority; examples come from Indian and global markets.

IB Business Management

HL / SL

Students practise reading a case study quickly, choosing the relevant theory and applying it to the business shown.

IB English A Language & Literature

HL / SL

Unseen extract analysis, essay planning and spoken commentary are treated as three skills, each with its own rehearsal cycle.

IB Computer Science

HL / SL

Programming logic, data structures and networks are covered, with attention to the exam's pseudocode style.

IB Psychology

HL / SL

Key studies, their methods and criticism are memorised, then turned into well-structured extended answers.

IB Geography

HL / SL

Case studies are prepared with real figures, and data-response practice builds speed with maps, graphs and tables.

IB History

HL / SL

Sources are analysed against their origin and purpose, and essays are planned around a clear argument.

IB Hindi B

HL / SL

A strong home language helps, so lessons focus on formal registers, exam text types and confident speaking.

Theory of Knowledge (TOK)

DP Core

Tutors talk through knowledge questions and real-life situations with the student, who then writes the essay and builds the exhibition alone.

IGCSE coverage

IGCSE subjects we tutor

In Motihari, IGCSE is usually studied privately or as preparation before a school change. The first decision is which board, Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel, and which tier, since both affect how a tutor plans the year.

IGCSE Mathematics 0580

Core / Extended

Non-calculator fluency, algebraic manipulation and shape and space are built through short, frequent worked examples.

IGCSE Additional Mathematics 0606

Grade 10

Calculus, functions and trigonometry appear early, so the paper works as a bridge to Diploma or A Level Mathematics.

Edexcel IGCSE Mathematics A 4MA1

Foundation / Higher

The style of Edexcel questions and its marking of method are taught explicitly, with mixed-topic practice papers.

IGCSE Physics 0625

Core / Extended

Formula rearrangement, electricity and waves are practised, alongside the alternative-to-practical paper.

IGCSE Chemistry 0620

Core / Extended

Mole calculations, separation methods and organic families are repeated until they feel automatic.

IGCSE Biology 0610

Core / Extended

Human physiology, plant transport and genetics are revised with labelled diagrams the student draws unaided.

IGCSE Economics 0455

Grade 9-10

Basic economic problems, market failure and government roles are explained through examples from Bihar and India.

IGCSE Business Studies 0450

Grade 9-10

Case-study reading, break-even and cash flow are practised against real past-paper scenarios.

IGCSE Computer Science 0478

Grade 9-10

Binary, logic gates and algorithm tracing are drilled before programming tasks are attempted.

IGCSE English First Language 0500

Grade 9-10

Narrative, descriptive and argumentative writing get timed practice and line-by-line commentary.

IGCSE Hindi as a Second Language 0549

Grade 9-10

Comprehension, letter writing and conversation are practised for students who prefer an international qualification in Hindi.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around Motihari school timetables

Three patterns cover almost every Motihari family. The medium is always a live one-to-one video lesson; the difference lies in how often and why.

Steady weekly lessons

A regular hour with the same tutor, following the specification topic by topic with homework marked between classes.

  • Works for IB, IGCSE and MYP subjects alike
  • Digital whiteboard used throughout the class
  • Photographed homework reviewed before the next session
  • Builds a relationship with one tutor across a year

Second syllabus beside school

For a child in a Bihar board or CBSE school who studies an international course in the evenings or at weekends.

  • Lessons follow the international syllabus only
  • Slots avoid the school's internal test weeks
  • Monthly progress note for parents
  • Useful groundwork before a boarding-school move

Intensive pre-exam block

A short, concentrated run of sessions built around timed papers, correction and re-testing of weak topics.

  • Papers marked against official mark schemes
  • Recurring mistakes tracked and retested
  • Start four to six weeks before the exam window
  • Planned around festivals and flood-season disruption

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Motihari

01

Are there IB or IGCSE schools in Motihari?

  • No confirmed IB or IGCSE school in Motihari or East Champaran
  • Local education runs on the Bihar board and CBSE
  • Families are often returnees, university-linked or planning a boarding move
  • Check ibo.org and Cambridge directories for new authorisations

We could not confirm any IB or Cambridge or Edexcel IGCSE school in Motihari or East Champaran, and we would rather say so than invent one. Local education is organised around the Bihar School Examination Board and CBSE, with private coaching for engineering, medical and civil-service exams filling the evenings.

That does not mean interest in international curricula is absent. Motihari has an unusually outward-looking history: Champaran is where Gandhi's first major campaign in India began, the town is Orwell's birthplace, and Mahatma Gandhi Central University brings faculty and students from across the country. Families connected with that university, or with district administration and banking, are often people used to moving between cities.

Others are families with children already abroad or in the Gulf, or with a relative who studied under Cambridge or IB. The child arrives in East Champaran with a syllabus in hand and no classroom to follow it. For them, online one-to-one tuition is not a luxury but the only route to keep the course going while the family is based here.

Whenever a family asks whether a Motihari school has recently been authorised, we suggest checking the IB and Cambridge school directories directly. Approvals change, and the official lists are always more current than a tutoring page.

02

Bihar board, CBSE, IB and IGCSE: which suits which child?

The four options in the table below do not rank against each other; they answer different needs. The Bihar board and CBSE are easily available in Motihari, well understood by local teachers and lead straight into JEE, NEET and CUET. IB and IGCSE need a different route, usually online tuition plus a plan for where the student will sit exams.

Parents comparing them tend to focus on three questions: how much memorisation is expected, how the student will be assessed and where the certificate will be accepted. The Bihar board leans on recall of textbook content. CBSE mixes recall with application. IGCSE and IB lean on applied questions with explanation, and IB adds a broad six-subject structure with extended essay and community service.

There is no shame in staying with the local board. For many Motihari students the Bihar board or CBSE, combined with strong entrance coaching, remains the most direct path to Indian professional courses. International boards make more sense when the family expects to move, when study abroad is a genuine goal or when a child's learning style suits explanation-based assessment.

03

How much does IB or IGCSE home tuition cost in Motihari?

  • Rates depend on subject, level, tutor experience and lesson frequency
  • Quotes are given in writing before booking
  • No travel cost for the family
  • Trial lesson free of charge

There is no price list on this page and that is deliberate. What a family pays depends on who teaches, what is taught and how often, so we give a written quote after understanding the child's needs rather than a number that may not apply.

Three things move a rate most. First, the subject and level: IB Physics HL or IGCSE Additional Mathematics draws from a smaller pool of experienced tutors than a primary reading lesson. Second, the tutor's track record with that exact specification. Third, the pattern of lessons: a slow weekly rhythm is priced differently from an intensive fortnight before papers begin.

Motihari families also avoid several costs that metro families accept without noticing. No auto or cab fare to a tutor's flat, no lost hour in the traffic around Gandhi Chowk and no need to pay a premium for someone willing to travel to a smaller town. A trial lesson costs nothing, so you see the tutor at work before any figure is agreed.

If your child needs long-term support, we can plan the year in blocks so that spending follows the exam calendar instead of running evenly across months when the student needs less help.

04

Online tutor, local coaching, home tutor or going it alone: what works in Motihari?

Motihari has a lively coaching scene, but it is built for entrance exams and board results, not for IB or Cambridge papers. A parent asking a local centre about IGCSE Chemistry will usually be told it is not offered, or offered a CBSE-style class with a different syllabus.

A local private tutor can be very good at general Mathematics or Science, yet may never have marked an IB internal assessment or read a Cambridge mark scheme. Studying alone with past papers is possible for determined students, though without a marker the same error can go uncorrected for months.

An online tutor who teaches the exact course is the closest replacement for a school class. The comparison below sets out how the four options differ on the points parents ask about most.

05

When are the exams, and how do floods and festivals fit in?

IB Diploma exams run in May and November, and IGCSE exams follow a similar spread, with Cambridge in February and March, May and June, and October and November. Most Indian IB candidates sit in May, which places the final revision push in the hottest, most power-cut prone weeks of the year in North Bihar.

Monsoon in East Champaran can complicate July to September. Low-lying roads flood, electricity fails and schools sometimes close for days. We plan the heaviest content teaching before June and use the monsoon months for lighter consolidation, so a lost week does not derail the syllabus. Chhath in late October or early November and Durga Puja in the preceding weeks bring some of the longest breaks of the year.

Families should also plan for wedding season. Many Motihari households travel for weddings between November and February, and tutors can move lessons but cannot recreate a missed exam week. Each of these factors is included when we build a schedule.

06

What can a Motihari student do after IB or IGCSE?

  • AIU equivalence for public universities in India
  • Check CUET-UG, JEE Main and NEET-UG rules each year
  • UCAS for the UK, direct applications for Canada and Australia
  • Choose Diploma subjects with the intended course in mind

Outcomes depend on which certificate the student holds and where they want to study. Among the three most common routes, the paperwork differs and should be understood in Class 11, not in Class 12.

In India, an IB Diploma graduate normally applies to public universities with an equivalence certificate from the Association of Indian Universities, and to a growing group of private universities directly. CUET-UG rules for international boards are published each year. IGCSE students in India typically move to Class 11 in a CBSE, ICSE or IB school, or follow A Level.

For medicine and engineering, JEE Main and NEET-UG have their own eligibility conditions for students from international boards, including subject combinations. A student who wants a medical seat must include Biology, Chemistry and Physics in the Diploma, and one aiming for engineering must keep Mathematics.

Abroad, UK universities work through UCAS, Canada and Australia through direct applications or provincial systems, and the United States through the Common Application. Predicted IB grades and IGCSE results are used in different ways by each. Tutors focus on the subject learning that makes those results possible.

07

How are IB Mathematics and the sciences taught over video?

The lesson is a conversation, not a broadcast. The tutor shares a digital whiteboard, the student works on paper beside the screen, and both look at the same problem at the same time. A photographed page at the end of a session lets the tutor mark real handwriting.

Mathematics comes in two forms. Analysis and Approaches suits students who enjoy algebra, calculus and proof, and it is the usual choice for future engineers and economists. Applications and Interpretation emphasises data, modelling and technology, which fits business, social science and life science paths. Picking the wrong one is a common Diploma regret, and we advise on the choice before a student commits.

Physics, Chemistry and Biology each combine understanding, recall and a practical investigation. Tutors help students see the structure of the syllabus and practise the calculations, definitions and experimental design ideas. The write-up of the investigation is left to the student, with feedback given through questions.

Because Motihari sometimes suffers from unstable power, we advise students to keep a charged laptop or a phone as a backup during timed papers.

08

How should a Motihari student pick between IGCSE Core and Extended?

IGCSE Core and Extended tiers are different papers, not different marking of the same paper. Core tops out at grade C, while Extended reaches A star, so the choice decides how high a student can go.

A student aiming for the IB Diploma, A Level Mathematics or science, or a competitive Indian stream should usually sit Extended in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Core fits students who find a subject a struggle, or who are taking a subject only for breadth. A good tutor reviews the choice a few months in and can move the student up or down without penalty before entry.

Subject choice is the other half. Mathematics and English are near-universal, and most add two or three sciences plus one humanities or business subject. Hindi as a second language is a popular way to secure a strong grade quickly for Motihari students whose home language is Hindi or Bhojpuri.

Cambridge and Edexcel differ in question style and tier names, with Edexcel using Foundation and Higher. Tell us which board you are entered with and we match accordingly.

Where we tutor

Motihari localities and blocks our online tutors serve

Lessons are all online, so this list is not about how far a tutor must travel. It records how each area's schooling, transport and daily routine tends to affect the timing of a lesson.

Chhatauni

A well-known residential and market area where many families juggle school, tuition and travel; evening lesson slots are popular.

Bapudham Motihari

The area around the railway station, convenient for students commuting to other Bihar cities on weekends.

Motijheel

The lakeside neighbourhood near the town centre with established households and several coaching centres nearby.

Kotwa

A locality on the edge of town; families here sometimes choose online lessons to avoid long commutes on busy roads.

Gandhi Chowk area

A busy central stretch where traffic makes evening travel slow, so at-home video sessions save time.

Areraj

A town west of Motihari known for a Shiva temple; families here often pair school with online tuition because of distance.

Sugauli

A small town on the route towards Raxaul, historically linked with the Treaty of Sugauli of 1816.

Kesaria

Best known for the Kesaria stupa; students here typically travel to Motihari or Muzaffarpur for higher schooling.

Raxaul

The Nepal border town roughly an hour or more away, with cross-border families sometimes seeking international syllabuses.

Chakia

A block town towards the Muzaffarpur side where students often rely on private study for specialised subjects.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Motihari

Motihari and East Champaran

Local schooling runs on the Bihar board and CBSE. We could not confirm an IB or Cambridge or Edexcel IGCSE school here, so international-syllabus students learn at home through online tuition.

    Nearby: Muzaffarpur and Patna

Muzaffarpur is about an hour and a half away and Patna roughly three hours. Both have larger school markets, but we could not confirm an IB or IGCSE campus in either, so we name none.

      Nearby: Kolkata

Kolkata is the closest big city with well-known international-curriculum schools; some Bihar families consider boarding or relocation there.

      • Calcutta International School
      • The Heritage School, Kolkata
      • The Cambridge School, Calcutta

      Nearby: Mussoorie boarding belt

A handful of Bihar families look to the hill boarding belt for a full international curriculum, where the distance makes online tutoring during holidays especially useful.

      • Woodstock School, Mussoorie

No school in Motihari is listed as an IB or Cambridge/Edexcel IGCSE school because none could be confirmed. Schools named below are in other cities, are shown only to describe options some families consider, and have no link with IB Gram.

      Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Motihari: your questions answered

Do tutors visit homes in Motihari for IB or IGCSE?+

No, tutors do not visit homes in Motihari. Home visits run only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR. In Motihari the lesson is a live online one-to-one class, taken at home on a laptop. The format still gives your child a single teacher's full attention, but the tutor can be the right specialist from any Indian city rather than whoever lives nearby.

Is there any IB school in Motihari or East Champaran?+

We could not confirm an IB school in Motihari or anywhere in East Champaran. Local schools follow the Bihar board or CBSE. The IB Organization's school directory is the authoritative source, and we suggest checking it if you hear of a new authorisation. Meanwhile, students on an IB course study through online tuition or attend a school in another city.

Can I get IGCSE home tuition in Motihari?+

Yes, as online home tuition. A tutor who teaches your child's IGCSE board and subject joins a live video lesson at a time that suits your household. Tutors do not visit Motihari homes, because in-home teaching exists only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR. The one-to-one online format lets you choose the right specialist for Cambridge or Edexcel.

How do I sit IGCSE exams from Motihari?+

You register through an approved exam centre that accepts private candidates, which is often in a larger city. Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel both list centres and set their own entry deadlines several months before each series. Ask the centre about practical papers and fees. Tutors prepare your child for the papers, but entry and exam-day arrangements are handled by you and the centre.

What does it cost, and is there a free trial?+

The first lesson is free. After that, rates depend on the tutor's experience, the subject and level and how often your child studies, and we confirm them in writing before you book. Advanced sciences and Mathematics tend to sit higher, and primary-level support lower. Being online, there is no travel cost, which matters in a district where distances add up quickly.

Which subjects are asked for most in Motihari?+

Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology lead by a long way, reflecting interest in medicine and engineering. Economics and Business Management follow, then English and Hindi. Some families also ask about Theory of Knowledge, although a tutor will only discuss ideas and structure and never write the essay for the student.

Will my child be able to apply to NEET or JEE after IB?+

It depends on the subject combination and on the current rules of the exam agencies and universities, which change. Students generally need Physics, Chemistry and either Biology or Mathematics, and an equivalence certificate for many Indian institutions. Plan the Diploma choices early and confirm the latest notices in writing with the relevant body.

Does the flood season disrupt lessons?+

Sometimes. Heavy monsoon weeks can cut power or roads in parts of East Champaran, and schools occasionally close. Online lessons are less affected than travel, but a power cut can still interrupt a session. We plan heavier teaching before June, keep a phone hotspot as a backup and reschedule any lost session without charging for it.

How do tutors handle Extended Essays and IAs?+

Tutors coach and never write. They explain assessment criteria, ask questions that sharpen a research question and comment in general terms on a plan or draft. The words and ideas must remain the student's own. That protects a student from academic misconduct findings, which can damage the Diploma result.

Can a Class 7 or 8 child begin IGCSE preparation?+

Yes. Beginning in Class 8 or 9 gives time to shift from memorised answers to explained reasoning, without exam pressure. Tutors typically keep the first term gentle, focusing on core skills and command words, and move to past papers later. A trial lesson shows how your child responds and how much time to set aside.

What internet speed do I need?+

Roughly 5 Mbps stable is enough for video and a shared whiteboard. A broadband or good Wi-Fi connection is better than mobile data. If the line drops, keep a phone hotspot ready. Lost lesson time is rescheduled and the written note records what was covered before the interruption.

Can Bhojpuri or Hindi speakers manage English-medium IB tutoring?+

Yes. Lessons are conducted in English because the exams are in English, but tutors are Indian and comfortable clarifying a concept in Hindi when a student is stuck. The aim is to build exam-ready English gradually, and language support such as IB Hindi B or IGCSE Hindi can be added alongside the main subjects.

How often should my child meet the tutor?+

One lesson a week plus homework suits a steady syllabus. Before an exam, two to four weekly sessions for a month is common. The tutor reviews progress from past papers and suggests changes, and you can adjust the schedule with written notice whenever you need.

Which IGCSE boards do you support?+

Both Cambridge International and Pearson Edexcel IGCSE, plus A Level and AS as background. The boards use different papers and tiers, so tell us which one your child has entered. We choose a tutor familiar with that board and can re-match if your child changes.

How do I book the free trial?+

Message +91 7439 368 115 on WhatsApp or email support@ibgram.com with your child's class, board, subject and preferred time. We arrange a trial with a suitable tutor, usually within a few days. There is no obligation, and if the tutor is not right, ask for a different one before booking.
