IB & IGCSE in Medak

A cathedral town with Hyderabad on one side and farmland on the other

Medak is best known for its cathedral, a Gothic Revival church begun in 1914 by the Methodist missionary Charles Walker Posnett and consecrated on Christmas Day 1924, with a bell tower about 175 feet high. Above the town sits a fort first raised by the Kakatiyas and later developed by the Qutb Shahis. Medak became the headquarters of its own district in 2016, after the old district was split three ways, and it lies around 100 km from Hyderabad. Rice, mango and other crops still anchor the local economy, and the schools follow the Telangana state board or CBSE.

International programmes do not appear in that picture, yet parents ask about them. Some have a child at a Hyderabad school that teaches the IB or IGCSE and need help during the holidays. Some work in the pharma and IT belt around Sangareddy and are weighing a move. Others have relatives in the United States or the Gulf and want a qualification that other countries recognise. Searches for IB and IGCSE tutors in Medak come from all of these households, and most of them cannot find a nearby teacher who has seen the papers.

Our service is built for that gap. The tutor joins a live video lesson while your child works at home on a laptop or tablet, using a shared whiteboard and pages shown to the camera. Tutors are chosen for the course, not for the pin code, and every session finishes with a short report. Lessons run on Indian Standard Time, so a Medak timetable never has to bend around a foreign time zone.

IB Gram is an independent service and is not connected with the International Baccalaureate, Cambridge, Pearson or any school named here. We make no promises about marks or admissions. You get careful subject teaching, honest advice on what is realistic from Medak, and a free first lesson, so the approach can be judged before any rate is discussed.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to Medak school years

Most Medak children meet an international programme through a move, a boarding place in Hyderabad or a relative abroad. This is what each stage asks of a student, and where tutoring fits.

PYPNursery to Class 5, ages 3 to 12

IB Primary Years Programme

Children learn through units built around big questions, and they close the stage by planning and presenting a group exhibition.

Telugu or Urdu is often the language at home, so short daily reading aloud in English, with a tutor asking questions about the story, pays off quickly.

MYPClass 6 to 10, ages 11 to 16

IB Middle Years Programme

Teachers mark every subject against set criteria, and students finish with a Personal Project on a topic they choose themselves.

Students from a textbook-and-exam background need practice at explaining why an answer is right, which is exactly what the MYP rewards.

DPClass 11 to 12, ages 16 to 19

IB Diploma Programme

Students study six subjects with the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and CAS, and the final examinations arrive at the end of year two.

The Diploma is taught at schools in Hyderabad, not in Medak, so a Medak Diploma student is usually a boarder or part of a family that has moved.

CPClass 11 to 12, ages 16 to 19

IB Career-related Programme

A smaller set of Diploma courses is paired with career-focused study, language development and a reflective project.

Very few Indian schools offer it, but the Diploma courses within it are taught like any others.

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Medak

01

Which IB and IGCSE schools can a Medak family actually reach?

  • No IB or IGCSE school confirmed in Medak or its mandals
  • Bowrampet, Tellapur, Bachupally and Kondapur hold the nearest campuses
  • Boarding, a rented city home or a move are the usual routes
  • Tutoring before the move makes the first term gentler

None inside Medak, as far as we can confirm. The IB and Cambridge school lists showed no authorised school in the town or its mandals, and the nearest campuses lie on the western side of Hyderabad, around 100 km away by road, well beyond a daily commute. A family that wants the IB or IGCSE at school therefore has three choices: boarding, a rented home in the city, or a full move.

The Hyderabad campuses we could confirm cluster around Bowrampet, Tellapur, Bachupally and Kondapur. One combines the IB with IGCSE and CBSE, another teaches the IB Primary and Middle Years programmes, and a third runs a Diploma stream beside IGCSE. Seats and boarding places change every year, so ask each school directly instead of relying on any list, including ours.

Medak's own schooling is Telangana board and CBSE. The cathedral's founder first visited the town in 1896, and its association with the Church of South India and its diocese runs deep, but that history has not produced an IB or Cambridge school. A child here often reaches Class 8 or 9 before the family asks whether an international route is possible, and by then the gap in English academic writing has widened.

That is where a tutor helps. A student who will join a Hyderabad IB school in Class 6 or Class 11 can spend the year before building subject vocabulary and exam habits, and a boarder who comes home for Dasara or the summer break can keep up momentum. We will not pretend that tutoring replaces a school's laboratories, CAS projects or exam centre.

02

Telangana board, CBSE, IB or IGCSE: how do the routes differ for a Medak student?

They differ most in what the last two school years ask for. The Telangana board takes students through the SSC at Class 10 and a two-year Intermediate course in streams such as MPC and BiPC, feeding engineering and medical entrance tests. CBSE follows a national syllabus with its own board papers. The IB Diploma and IGCSE reward explanation, evaluation and applied problem-solving instead.

Many Medak-district children study in Telugu medium until Class 10, and some schools offer Urdu medium, before moving to English for Intermediate. International syllabuses bring that language jump forward, because every subject is taught in English from the start. Tutors plan for it with glossaries, sentence frames for explanations and plenty of spoken practice.

Marks also travel differently. Class 10 results and Intermediate marks count for EAPCET, formerly EAMCET, and for state quotas, while IB and IGCSE grades need equivalence before an Indian admission office will use them. Ask the admitting body, not the school, what it will accept for the course you have in mind.

The table lines up the routes as they look from Medak.

03

Why do IB and IGCSE tuition quotes vary so much, and what should a Medak parent ask for?

Because two lessons with the same name can be very different products. An hour of IB Higher Level Physics with a former examiner is not the same as an hour of IGCSE Core Mathematics revision, and the quote reflects that. We print no rate card; instead we give a written quote once we know the course, level, frequency and target exam.

Five things move the figure: the subject and level; the tutor's record on that syllabus, including any marking or moderating experience; how many sessions a week you book; whether the lesson is one to one or shared by two students; and how close the exam is, since intensive blocks need more preparation. None of these depends on whether you live in Medak or Mumbai.

When you compare quotes, ask three questions. Has this tutor taught this exact syllabus and board? Will there be a written note after each lesson? And can you try a session first? The third matters most, because a trial shows a tutor's pace and clarity in a way that no biography can.

Hyderabad's coaching institutes and hostel junior colleges publish fees for entrance-test batches, and families often use those figures as a yardstick. They are a poor guide here, since an entrance batch holds dozens of students and an IB lesson holds one. The fairer comparison is value per hour of focused attention, and that is best judged in the free trial.

04

Coaching in Hyderabad, a local private teacher or an online IB specialist: which route helps most?

It depends on what the student is preparing for. For EAPCET, JEE or NEET, the Hyderabad coaching ecosystem is well established, and many Medak families send children to hostel colleges there for Intermediate. For an IB or IGCSE course, though, the syllabus is different and the teachers are scarce, so an online specialist is usually the practical choice.

A local private teacher in Medak can be excellent for state board subjects, for younger children and for homework supervision. What such a teacher rarely has is experience with IB command terms, internal assessment criteria or IGCSE mark schemes. Combining the two is sensible: the local teacher handles the school timetable and the online tutor handles the international course.

Self-study with past papers works for disciplined students, but mistakes can go unnoticed for months. One lesson a fortnight with a specialist is often enough to catch them. The table compares the four routes side by side.

Bathukamma to Christmas: how Medak's calendar and climate shape the study year

Medak's year has a rhythm that a tutor should respect. Telangana schools reopen in June as the monsoon arrives, Bonalu colours July and August, and Bathukamma and Dasara bring the longest break of the first half, usually in late September or October. Families travel, relatives visit, and students who board in Hyderabad come home.

Christmas is unusually important here because of the cathedral. Services and gatherings draw visitors from across the state for several days, and the church was consecrated on 25 December 1924, so the day carries a local anniversary too. Sankranti in January brings another short break, and the SSC and Intermediate examinations follow in March, occupying state board students until the start of April.

Heat matters as much as holidays. Medak has recorded temperatures above 46 degrees Celsius and receives roughly a metre of rain a year, most of it between June and September. The hottest weeks of April and May suit short early or late sessions, and the heaviest monsoon evenings can interrupt power and broadband.

IB Diploma papers run mainly in May with a smaller November session, Cambridge IGCSE in May to June and October to November, and Pearson Edexcel adds January. A Medak student on that cycle usually starts serious past-paper work in January, lightens the load in the Christmas fortnight and keeps the final month before exams free of new topics.

06

Where can a Medak IB or IGCSE student study next?

  • The IB Diploma is treated by the AIU as a Class 12 equivalent
  • IGCSE counts as the Class 10 stage, so A Level or the Diploma comes next
  • CUET-UG, NEET-UG and JEE each have their own subject rules
  • US, UK and Canadian universities read IB and A Level results easily

Anywhere an equivalent Class 12 qualification is accepted, which includes most of India and much of the world. The Association of Indian Universities treats the IB Diploma as equivalent to Class 12 and IGCSE as the Class 10 stage, so an IGCSE student continues through A Levels or the Diploma first. CUET-UG then opens central universities and many others, and each applies its own subject rules.

Hyderabad is the natural base. The University of Hyderabad, IIT Hyderabad at Kandi, IIIT Hyderabad, the Hyderabad campus of BITS Pilani, NALSAR, the Indian School of Business and Osmania University are all within a few hours of Medak, with NIT Warangal and Kakatiya University to the north-east. Students aiming at medicine or engineering should confirm NEET-UG and JEE eligibility, which depends on the subjects taken.

Many Telugu families have relatives in the United States, and the route there is well worn. IB results and IGCSE-then-A-Level results are read easily by American, British and Canadian universities, and students usually add an admissions test on top. We coach IB and IGCSE subjects, and admissions-test preparation has its own page on this site.

Other destinations include Australia, Germany and Singapore. Whichever country you have in mind, the practical advice is the same: choose subjects at Class 11 with the target course in view, because combinations of mathematics, science and languages open or close doors two years later.

07

How should a Medak student tackle IB Maths, the sciences and the internal assessments?

Choose the Mathematics course first, then build the sciences around it. Analysis and Approaches suits students who like algebra and proof and plan for engineering or pure science, while Applications and Interpretation suits those who prefer data and modelling for business, economics or the life sciences. Both come at Standard and Higher Level, and trying a sample paper from each settles most doubts.

Students from Telangana's Intermediate system often hold a strong grounding in calculus and mechanics, which helps at Higher Level. The gap is usually presentation, because IB marking rewards clearly stated method. A tutor trains students to write each step, label diagrams and state units and conclusions. Graphing-calculator skills need their own practice, since the papers assume them.

In Physics, Chemistry and Biology, the internal assessment carries about a fifth of the grade, and the written papers mix short recall with data analysis and extended response. Chemistry students often need extra work on organic routes and calculations, Physics students on unfamiliar contexts, and Biology students on graph reading. A local wetland such as Pocharam gives Biology and Environmental Systems students a real place to design an investigation around.

Our tutors coach the investigation but never write it. They can discuss a research question, test the logic of a method and explain the criteria, while the data, analysis and conclusion remain the student's own.

08

IGCSE Core or Extended, Cambridge or Edexcel: what should a Medak student choose?

Choose the tier by the next destination and the board by the school. Extended papers open every grade and are the usual stepping stone to IB Analysis and Approaches or A Level sciences, while Core papers suit a student who needs a secure result in a demanding subject and has a different route in mind. The school normally decides both, in consultation with the subject teacher.

Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel are different examinations, even where the subject titles match. Their paper structures, command words, formula sheets and exam months vary, so a tutor who knows one board is not automatically right for the other. We match the tutor to the board on your entry form or school timetable.

A student joining an IGCSE school from a Telangana board background usually has gaps in some topics and overlaps in others. The first lesson is a diagnostic: a recent past paper, a look at classwork, then a map of the gaps. That spares the student from re-learning what is already secure.

Languages deserve a mention. English is the big one, and the first-language and second-language papers are very different tasks. Hindi and Urdu second-language papers can also help build a balanced profile, especially for students who plan to return to India for college.

Where we tutor

Medak and the towns around it: how we plan lessons

Every lesson is online, so your address does not limit the choice of tutor. It does shape the practicalities: how long the school run takes, when electricity is steadiest and which festivals close the lanes. These notes show how we plan around each part of the district.

Medak town centre

The busy market and bus-stand core; school runs fill the late afternoon, so lessons often begin in the early evening.

Ghusnabad and the Cathedral area

The campus around the cathedral, where Christmas week draws heavy crowds and lessons are planned around it.

Medak Fort hill

Older neighbourhoods below the fort; where siblings share one laptop, paired lessons are a practical option.

Edupayala

A pilgrimage village a short drive from town, where festival crowds can block roads and strain mobile networks for a few days.

Pocharam

The lake and sanctuary belt; connectivity can vary after storms, so we test the line before a first lesson.

Kuchanpally

A village known for the Kuchadri Venkateshwara Swamy temple, where farming routines set the pace of the day.

Papannapet

A nearby mandal; where students travel into Medak for college, a lesson at home saves real time.

Ramayampet

A town on the road between Medak and Kamareddy; students who commute for college will find evening lessons at home easier.

Narsapur

On the Hyderabad side of the district, with a growing number of households tied to jobs in the city and its industrial belt.

Toopran

A highway town on the Hyderabad road, close enough to the city's school gates to consider weekday boarding.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Medak

In Medak district: none that we could confirm

Searches of the IB and Cambridge school lists turned up no authorised school in Medak or its towns. Local children attend Telangana board or CBSE schools, and international syllabuses reach them through tutoring or a move.

Nearby: western Hyderabad (Bowrampet, Tellapur and Bachupally)

These campuses sit on the side of the city closest to Medak, yet still far enough that a daily commute is unrealistic, so families look at boarding or a rented home nearby.

    • Oakridge International School
    • Glendale International School
    • Silver Oaks International School

    Nearby: Hyderabad (Kondapur)

A school here teaches the IB Diploma alongside IGCSE and CBSE, and draws students from across the city and beyond.

    • CHIREC International School

The names below are schools in Hyderabad, listed to show the nearest authorised options for Medak families; they are not endorsements. IB Gram is independent of every school and examining body, and nothing here promises a seat. Please check current authorisation and boarding details with the school, and with the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, before you decide.

    Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Medak: your questions answered

Are there IB tutors in Medak?+

Yes, online. Our IB tutors teach Medak students live and one to one, each matched to the student's programme, subject and level, and each teaching on Indian Standard Time. They are based elsewhere in India, which lets us pick a specialist in, say, Higher Level Chemistry instead of settling for whoever lives nearby.

Is there an IB or IGCSE school in Medak?+

We could not confirm one. The IB and Cambridge lists show no authorised school in Medak or its mandals, and the closest confirmed campuses are in western Hyderabad, around Bowrampet, Tellapur, Bachupally and Kondapur. Always check a school's current status and boarding terms with the school itself before you rely on this page.

Is online home tuition really home tuition in Medak?+

It is home tuition in the sense that your child learns privately at home, one to one, with a tutor giving full attention. The tutor does not come to your house, though: home visits run only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR, not in Medak. The online format is what lets us choose an IB or IGCSE specialist instead of a general tutor.

How much does IB or IGCSE tuition cost in Medak?+

There is no fixed price list, because the figure depends on the course, level, tutor experience, sessions per week and whether two students share a lesson. We send a written quote before you book, and the first lesson is free. Higher Level sciences and Analysis and Approaches tend to cost more than IGCSE Core or MYP work.

My child studies in a Telugu-medium school. Can they cope with IGCSE or the IB?+

Yes, with planning. Telugu-medium students usually arrive strong in Mathematics and recall but short of English for explanation, so tutors build vocabulary, practise command words such as compare and justify, and coach full-sentence answers. Start several months before the change of school, and keep the pace gentle in the first term.

Can a boarder in Hyderabad keep the same tutor when home in Medak?+

Yes. Lessons are online, so the tutor can teach a student in a hostel during term and at home during Dasara, Christmas or the summer break. Weekly slots suit term time, while holiday catch-up blocks use the break to consolidate and preview. We agree the plan with parents and, where the school permits, with the student.

Which exam sessions apply to IB and IGCSE students?+

IB Diploma papers mostly fall in May, with some schools also using November. Cambridge IGCSE runs in May to June and October to November, and Pearson Edexcel adds January. Your school or exam centre will confirm the dates. Medak students usually start mock-paper practice in January and keep new topics out of the final month.

Will the tutor write my child's IA or Extended Essay?+

No, never. Tutors coach and do not write. They can help pick a workable question, explain marking criteria, test the logic of a method and comment on a draft, but the work itself must be the student's. We refuse any request to draft internal assessments, Extended Essays, TOK essays or other coursework.

Can a private candidate take IGCSE from Medak?+

Sometimes. Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel accept private candidates through registered centres, but places, fees and deadlines depend on the centre and the subject. The IB Diploma normally requires enrolment at an authorised school. We can prepare a student for the papers, while you book the entry with a centre, ideally months ahead.

Will Christmas, Dasara and Bathukamma break lessons?+

Only if you want them to. We ask about family dates at the start and plan around them, so Christmas week at the cathedral or the Dasara break can be left free, or used for catch-up if a boarder is home. Missed sessions can be rearranged, and the written notes keep everyone on the same page.

Which parts of Medak district do you serve?+

All of them. Families in Medak town, Ghusnabad, Edupayala, Pocharam, Papannapet, Ramayampet, Narsapur and Toopran use the same service and the same tutor pool. Location affects how we plan around heat, power and festivals, but it never changes which tutor we can offer.

Should a US-bound student choose IB or IGCSE?+

Both are recognised, and neither guarantees entry. The IB Diploma is a two-year, six-subject programme with a core, while IGCSE is a two-year secondary course that normally leads to A Levels or the Diploma. American universities also weigh admissions tests and activities, so talk to target schools and a counsellor before choosing.

Can an IB or IGCSE student still write EAPCET, NEET or JEE?+

Often, but eligibility depends on the subjects studied and on how the examining body treats the certificate, so check the current brochure before committing. NEET-UG asks for Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Biotechnology and English. We teach the syllabus; we do not advise on admission rules.

Do you teach Telugu, Urdu or Hindi?+

Sometimes, depending on the language, level and board. Tell us in your first message, and we will say frankly whether a suitable tutor is free. A language lesson goes wrong quickly when the tutor has not taught the exact syllabus, so we would sooner decline than make a poor match.

    How do I begin?+

Message +91 7439 368 115 on WhatsApp or email support@ibgram.com with your child's programme, subject, level and school. We reply with a suggested tutor and a trial time. The trial is free, you are under no obligation to continue, and the rate is written down before you book.

What if the tutor does not suit my child?+

Let us know and we will arrange someone else. Most mismatches come down to pace or style, and swapping early is easier for everyone. The free trial is partly there to show this, and our regular check-ins give you another chance to adjust the plan.

Is IB Gram part of any school or exam board?+

No. IB Gram is an independent tutoring service with no affiliation to the IB, Cambridge, Pearson Edexcel or any school. Schools on this page are mentioned only to show the nearest options. We do not promise grades or admissions, because outcomes depend on the student's work and on the school's own decisions.
