IB and IGCSE Tutors and Private Home Tuition in Marigaon

Searching for home tuition in Marigaon for a child on the IB or the Cambridge or Edexcel IGCSE? Here the lessons arrive on a screen: live, private, one student with one tutor who has taught the syllabus. IB Gram does not post tutors to doors in Assam. In-home sessions are confined to Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR, and the Marigaon family is spared the long drive to Guwahati for specialist help.

  • Live private lessons online, taught by someone who has handled your child's own IB or IGCSE course
  • Timings that make way for Bohag Bihu, Kati Bihu and the Brahmaputra flood weeks

IB & IGCSE in Marigaon

A Brahmaputra floodplain district with Guwahati an hour or two away and no IB school of its own

Marigaon, better known on maps as Morigaon, is the headquarters of its district on the south bank of the Brahmaputra, in central Assam. The Kolong and Kapili rivers cross the district, rice and mustard fill the fields, and the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, with its dense population of one-horned rhinoceros, is one of the best-known landmarks. Mayong, a short distance away, has a reputation in Assamese folklore as a village of magic. Schools here follow the Assam board or CBSE. We could not confirm any in Marigaon that teaches the IB or Cambridge IGCSE.

Guwahati is the obvious reference point, and it has an international school of its own. For most Marigaon families the practical question is whether a child can follow an international course while living at home. Those asking tend to be families with relatives in the Gulf, the UK or the US; parents who work for oil, railway, bank or defence employers and expect transfers; and returnees whose children studied abroad. IB and IGCSE tutors in Marigaon, teaching online, serve all three.

Many parents search for home tuition, so here is the exact position. IB Gram tutors do not visit homes in Marigaon. Teaching in a student's own house is something we do only in Gurugram and certain Delhi NCR areas. What we deliver in Marigaon is private tuition from home: live video, a shared digital board and one tutor for one student.

We are independent. The IB, Cambridge, Pearson and the schools named lower down have no connection to our service. Tutors explain, mark and advise, while every Internal Assessment, Extended Essay, TOK essay and coursework piece is the student's own writing.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to Marigaon school years

In a district where schooling is spoken of in terms of HSLC and AHSEC, the IB's terms need a plain translation. Here is each stage and how it plays out for Marigaon students.

PYPClass 1-5, ages 6-11

IB Primary Years Programme

Children investigate themes across subjects and present their findings in a closing Exhibition.

Useful for a younger child back from an international school; tutors preserve the curiosity-led habit while Assamese and local-board classes catch up.

MYPClass 6-10, ages 11-16

IB Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups taught through concepts and graded on criteria, with a Personal Project at the end.

Students find rubric language puzzling, so tutors mark a piece of the child's own work against each descriptor.

DPClass 11-12, ages 16-19

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects, a 4,000-word Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and CAS, with a maximum score of 45 plus core bonus points.

Marigaon families mostly want Maths, the three sciences and Economics, for medicine, engineering or business degrees elsewhere.

CPClass 11-12, ages 16-19

IB Career-related Programme

Selected Diploma courses paired with career-related study and a reflective project.

Hardly ever requested in this district, though its academic strands can be taught online.

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Marigaon

01

Why is there no IB or IGCSE school in Marigaon?

  • No confirmed IB or IGCSE school in Marigaon district
  • One international school in Guwahati; larger clusters in Kolkata
  • Demand comes from relocating, returning and overseas-bound families
  • Tutoring supports a school or a private-candidate plan

The short reason is demand. An IB school needs authorisation, trained teachers and a large enough group of fee-paying families who want an overseas-recognised qualification. That mix exists in Guwahati, which has one international school, and in the metros. It has not formed in a district centred on rice, mustard, fisheries and small trade.

What Marigaon does have is a dense web of government and private schools, generations of teachers, and families who value state-board results. Many students go on to Gauhati University, Cotton University, Tezpur University or the engineering and medical seats reached through state and national entrance tests.

When an international course does come up, it comes from a particular situation: a parent whose employer may relocate them, a child with relatives in the UK, a returnee from a Gulf school. IB and IGCSE tutors in Marigaon, working online, answer exactly those cases.

We do not claim a tutor replaces a school. Laboratories, a Diploma cohort and service activities are a school's business; we strengthen the academic side.

02

Assam board, CBSE, IGCSE or IB: what shifts for a Marigaon student?

Class 10 students in Assam sit the HSLC under the state's secondary education board, and Class 12 students sit the higher secondary examination run by the AHSEC. Assamese, English and Hindi are all used as media of instruction. Papers follow the prescribed textbooks and reward accurate recall.

CBSE schools use NCERT, ask slightly more application and prepare students for JEE and NEET. They are the usual choice of employees with transferable jobs.

IGCSE and IB read differently. Everything is in English, command words such as discuss and evaluate decide the answer, and marks follow the quality of the reasoning. The IB adds coursework and an essay. A Marigaon student with excellent board marks may lose points simply because the working is not shown.

The grid below lines up the routes.

03

What does IB or IGCSE tutoring cost in Marigaon?

  • IB or IGCSE, Standard or Higher Level
  • Subject specialism
  • Tutor's experience with the syllabus
  • Weekly hours and plan length

No figure appears here, because each plan is built for one child. After the free first lesson we put the rate in writing, and nothing obliges you to continue.

Four things set the price: the programme and level, the subject, the tutor's depth of experience with the syllabus, and the number of hours each week. Intensive exam months are quoted differently from a steady weekly plan.

Against moving a child to a Guwahati or Kolkata hostel, online tutoring is modest. Against a local batch class it costs more per hour, but the hour is private, taught by a specialist and marked to the correct scheme.

Ask for the plan in writing, check the length of each session, the form of the written feedback and the policy for missed lessons.

04

Online home tuition, a Guwahati coaching class, a local teacher or self-study?

Marigaon parents who want help with an international syllabus can pick from four roads.

A coaching class in Guwahati is full of energy but involves a long commute and usually teaches for board and entrance exams. A local teacher is trusted and affordable but may not know IB mark schemes. Self-study using past papers suits a self-driven student.

An online tutor who has taught the course marks work to the real scheme and spots patterns in mistakes. The risk is a poor connection, and we plan for it with a spare hotspot and a recorded copy of the board work.

A quick comparison follows.

05

How do floods, Bihu and the exam series shape a year in Marigaon?

In central Assam the Brahmaputra's rise between June and September shapes everything. Roads close, power fails and some families move belongings to higher ground. We hold slack in the timetable in those months and send a recording of each lesson's board work if a storm interrupts it.

Bohag Bihu in April is the biggest festival, with a week of music, dance and visiting that cuts into study time. Kati Bihu in October is quieter, and Magh Bihu in January brings feasts and a long weekend. We agree dates early.

Exam series set the other fixed points: IB in May and November, Cambridge in May-June and October-November, Edexcel with a January session too. Assam also loses daylight early, so evening sessions start earlier than they would in western India.

The table shows a rough year.

December to FebruaryCool and dry, Magh BihuMocks and internal assessment drafts

06

Where can a Marigaon IB or IGCSE student study afterwards?

  • AIU equivalence for the Diploma and Cambridge qualifications
  • CUET-UG for central and many state universities
  • JEE and NEET depend on the subject mix
  • Direct entry abroad on IB points or A Level grades

The Association of Indian Universities treats the IB Diploma as equal to Class 12 and the IGCSE as equal to Class 10. A Marigaon student with the Diploma can apply through CUET-UG to central universities and many state or private ones, subject to each course's subject needs.

In Assam, Gauhati University, Cotton University, Tezpur University and IIT Guwahati are the names families mention first. Each sets its own rules for non-state-board qualifications, so check eligibility early.

For JEE Main the qualifying exam must include Physics, Chemistry and Maths, and for NEET it must include Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Biotechnology, and English. Subject choices at Class 11 should reflect that.

Abroad, IB points and Cambridge A Level grades are read directly by universities in the UK, Canada, Australia and the US. Tutors help match Higher Level subjects to target courses.

07

IB Maths AA or AI, and the sciences: where Assam students stumble

Students from Assamese-medium schools are often strong at calculation and short on written explanation. In AA, an answer that jumps to the result can lose method marks. We teach students to state the principle, show the step and check the answer's sense.

AI adds contextual interpretation, which means turning a statistical output into a sentence about the real situation. Students find that harder than the arithmetic.

In the sciences the obstacle is usually the internal investigation: choosing a question, handling uncertainty, evaluating limitations. We coach those habits with examples taken from other topics, never from the student's own submission, and leave the writing to the student.

08

IGCSE Core or Extended, and which subjects to take?

Core entries cap at grade C, whereas Extended runs to A* and prepares students for Cambridge A Level or the IB Diploma. A Marigaon student who may later pursue engineering or medicine should generally choose Extended Maths and separate sciences.

Subject choice should follow the plan for Class 11. A student returning to the Assam board, one going to A Levels and one targeting the IB Diploma abroad each need a different mix, and a conversation early in Class 9 helps.

Private candidates register through an authorised centre, often in Guwahati. Practical subjects need laboratory access or the alternative-to-practical paper, which we train for. The centre handles registration.

09

Can Environmental Systems and Geography draw on the Morigaon landscape?

They can, and a tutor who knows the district can make the syllabus feel less abstract. Morigaon sits on the south bank of the Brahmaputra, and Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary within the district is known for a dense population of Indian one-horned rhinoceros living on grassland and wetland. For IB Environmental Systems and Societies, that is a ready case study of a protected area, carrying capacity and the pressure of grazing and flooding on a habitat.

Geography students meet the same ground differently. Annual high water on the Brahmaputra and its tributaries gives real material for questions on flood hydrographs, river management, hard and soft engineering and the way a community prepares for a hazard that returns every monsoon. A student who has watched a village road go under can write about it with a conviction that a textbook example from another continent rarely gives.

The tutor does not substitute local colour for the syllabus. Every example is tied back to a command term and a mark scheme, so a paragraph on Pobitora still has to define, explain and evaluate in the way the examiner asks. Biology students can use the sanctuary to practise sampling methods, food webs and population estimates, while IGCSE Geography candidates use it to rehearse fieldwork design, which the written paper tests even when no fieldwork is done.

Where a student has never visited the sanctuary, the tutor works from maps, satellite images and published figures instead. Fieldwork on the school site can be adapted too: the compound, a nearby pond or a paddy field is enough for a quadrat survey or a simple measurement of water quality, provided the student records the method and the limits of the data honestly.

10

What happens in the first four weeks?

Week one is diagnostic. The tutor reads the latest marked paper and school scheme of work and sorts topics into secure, shaky and missing. A plan follows.

From week two the lessons settle. An hour opens with a short review of homework, moves to one demanding topic on the shared board and ends with timed questions. The student writes on paper and sends a photograph, so the tutor sees real working.

At the end of the month the tutor sends a written review covering progress, repeated slips and next targets. Marigaon parents with long working days often find it more useful than a phone call.

If something feels wrong, say so in the first fortnight. Tutors adjust pace or style and, if needed, we replace the tutor without charge.

Where we tutor

Marigaon, Jagiroad, Mayong and the towns around

Students in Marigaon district live on a few roads running between the Brahmaputra and the hills. These are the places families write from, with the practical points that decide lesson timing.

Marigaon town

The district headquarters, with offices, courts and several private schools; parents typically want short weekday sessions.

Jagiroad

A town on the national highway with an industrial history; families have relatives across Assam and compare options in Guwahati.

Mayong

Famous for its folklore and a small museum; a quiet, village-style area where good internet is the main need.

Pobitora side

Villages beside the wildlife sanctuary; evening power and signal can be uneven in the wet season.

Laharighat

A riverine area prone to flooding, where lessons may need to move during high-water weeks.

Bhuragaon

A small block town where subject specialists are few, so online help matters.

Moirabari

A market town near the river, with trading families who show interest in Economics and Business.

Dharamtul

A town on the highway where families often travel to Guwahati for work and school.

    Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Marigaon: your questions answered

Is there an IB or IGCSE school in Marigaon?+

We could not confirm one. Marigaon and Morigaon district have Assam board and CBSE schools. The nearest international school we found is in Guwahati, with larger clusters in Kolkata. If a local school has begun an IB or Cambridge course, tell us and we will update this page.

Do IB Gram tutors come to the house in Marigaon?+

No. Visits to students' houses are limited to Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR. Marigaon students have private tuition from home, online: a live video lesson with a tutor who uses a digital board and sends a short note after each session.

How does an online lesson work from Marigaon?+

The student joins a video call at the agreed hour. The tutor teaches a topic on a shared board, sets questions and marks them live. Headphones help, and a phone hotspot protects against broadband failures in the wet season. Tell us if the line is weak.

What does IB or IGCSE tuition cost in Marigaon?+

We quote the rate in writing after the free trial; no price list is published. Level, subject, tutor experience and weekly hours decide it. Online lessons save the commute to Guwahati and the hostel costs of relocating a child.

Which subjects do Marigaon families ask for most?+

IB Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology lead, followed by Economics and Environmental Systems. For IGCSE the requests are Mathematics, the sciences and English. Each is matched to a tutor who has taught that exact level.

Can a Marigaon student take IGCSE as a private candidate?+

Yes, through an authorised exam centre, perhaps in Guwahati. Practical subjects need laboratory access or the written alternative paper. We teach content and exam technique, and the centre handles registration, so ask about dates early.

How does the IB differ from the Assam board?+

The IB rewards explanation, evaluation and independent coursework in English. The Assam board rewards accurate recall of prescribed texts. A student switching needs practice with command words and extended answers more than new content.

    Can lessons be in Assamese?+

Lessons are in English because the papers are in English, though a tutor can explain a difficult idea in simple terms. Assamese is available as an IB language subject, and IGCSE offers language options for Indian students too.

Do tutors write the Internal Assessment or Extended Essay?+

No. The IB requires the work to be the student's own. Tutors explain the criteria, question the method and comment on drafts. The research, data and writing are always the student's.

When are IB and IGCSE exams held?+

IB Diploma exams run in May and November. Cambridge IGCSE has May-June and October-November sessions, and Pearson Edexcel runs January, May-June and October-November. A Marigaon candidate's session depends on the school or exam centre.

How soon can the first lesson be arranged?+

Often within a few days, depending on the subject and the tutor's calendar. Email support@ibgram.com or WhatsApp +91 7439 368 115 with the programme, subject, exam month and evenings that suit you.

What equipment does my child need?+

A laptop or tablet with camera and headphones, a steady connection, paper, pens and a calculator suited to the course. In flood-prone riverside areas such as Laharighat, keep a second connection and a charged power bank.

Can a Class 9 student start IGCSE next to the Assam board?+

It is possible, but the load is heavy. Most families begin with Maths and one science, where the overlap with the state syllabus is greatest. A planning call shows whether the extra work fits with school and other tuition.

Is IB Gram connected to any school or exam board?+

No. We are an independent tutoring service with no tie to the IB, Cambridge, Pearson or any school named here. Tutors are based in India and teach in IST, and every family gets a free trial, written notes and a free tutor change.

What if my child does not get on with the tutor?+

Tell us, and we will arrange another tutor with experience of the same course, free of charge. Styles differ, and a quick change saves the student weeks of frustration.
