IB and IGCSE Tutors and Private Home Tuition in Manihari

Private tuition at home for an IB or IGCSE student in Manihari means a live online class, one teacher and one student, because IB Gram tutors only make house visits in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR. Manihari is the Ganges ferry town where the river meets the Koshi, nine kilometres from Sahebganj and far from any international campus. A tutor who has taught your child's exact papers helps most. Tell us the course and we book a free first lesson.

  • Teaching is live, one student at a time, with nothing pre-recorded
  • Tutors with classroom history in IB DP, MYP and PYP and Cambridge or Edexcel IGCSE
  • Timings arranged around floods, ferries and Seemanchal power cuts
  • A free first lesson, followed by a written note after every class
  • A different tutor free of charge if the first is not a fit

IB & IGCSE in Manihari

A Ganges ghat town and the international syllabus

Manihari stands on the northern bank of the Ganges just where the Koshi joins it, in Katihar district at the edge of Bihar's Seemanchal region. The river makes the town and also floods it most years. A ferry from Manihari Ghat crosses to Sakrigali and on to Sahebganj in Jharkhand, about nine kilometres away. The railway station dates from 1887, and local trains run to Katihar. Thousands bathe at the ghat on Maghi Purnima. Literacy has long been below the national level, and most children attend Bihar Board or CBSE schools, with Bethel Mission School a long-established name.

Some Manihari households still ask about the IB or the Cambridge and Edexcel IGCSE. Perhaps a parent works in the railways or a bank and expects a transfer; perhaps a relative is settled in the Gulf or the UK; perhaps a bright child is already enrolled with an online international school and needs a real teacher for the hard topics. We found no school in the town or nearby that teaches those syllabuses, and the closest confirmed campuses are in Kolkata, a long journey away.

The working answer, then, is an online tutor. Lessons are live and private, tied to the papers your child will sit, and given from elsewhere in India on Indian time. No tutor visits Manihari homes, and we will not hint otherwise. IB Gram stands apart from the IB, Cambridge, Pearson and all schools; our tutors coach and explain, and they never write a student's assessments, essays or coursework.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to Manihari school years

On the Seemanchal side of Bihar the IB programmes usually arrive through a move or a screen-based school, not in classroom order. The tutor's work depends on the stage.

PYPClass 1-5, ages 6-11

Primary Years Programme

Learning in themed units, ending in a pupil-led Exhibition. For young children the best help is shared picture books, counting games and patient listening.

Children here may speak Hindi, Maithili, Bengali or Surjapuri at home. English works best in small, friendly doses, not long drills.

MYPClass 6-10, ages 11-16

Middle Years Programme

Eight subjects marked on published criteria, finishing with the Personal Project. A tutor shows how to dissect a task and aim at each band.

Pupils from Bihar Board textbooks find criterion marking a surprise. A weekly slot through the first two terms is usually enough to settle them.

DPClass 11-12, ages 16-19

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. A tutor prepares for the papers and explains coursework marking, while the student writes everything.

Hardly any Higher Level specialists live around Manihari, so an online teacher often does the work a school department would elsewhere.

CPClass 11-12, ages 16-19

Career-related Programme

Two or three Diploma courses with a vocational study and reflective project. Help covers those courses and academic English.

CP is practically unknown across Seemanchal. Each enquiry gets individual treatment, with a tutor matched to the courses taken.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around Manihari school timetables

Lessons in Manihari are all online, and families generally set them up in one of three ways.

Private video lesson at home

Tutor and student meet on camera with a common writing board, from a room at home.

  • Nobody visits Manihari homes, because house visits exist only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR
  • Bring a laptop, an exercise book and headphones, and nothing else
  • Pages of working are shown to the camera and corrected there and then
  • Parents get a brief written summary when the class ends

Pre-exam concentration

Tighter spacing of classes as the May or November papers approach.

  • Three or four classes weekly for around four weeks
  • Real past papers graded to the published mark scheme
  • Gaps the mock revealed are closed first
  • A day of rest just before paper one

One fixed weekly lesson

A subject, a time and the same tutor, week after week through the year.

  • Keeps the student level with the syllabus
  • Especially useful in MYP and Diploma year one
  • Bends around Maghi Purnima, Holi, Chhath and school tests
  • Opens with a trial class at no cost

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Manihari

01

What are the real routes to an IB or IGCSE education from Manihari?

In practice a Manihari family has four options. An online international school sends lessons to a laptop. A campus in Kolkata or Delhi takes the child as a boarder. A move, perhaps after a railway or bank transfer, changes the school. Or the student registers privately for IGCSE at an approved centre. The tutor's part differs in each.

Online-school pupils get their classes but may lack someone to confirm understanding. Holiday boarders want a difficult unit repaired. Families on the move need the next school's pace matched. Private candidates have no teacher in the room, so the tutor ends up keeping the syllabus calendar.

We do not rank the routes. Age, ease with English and the university plan decide, and we are happy to say honestly what each would ask of a tutor and how much help is realistic.

When the choice is unclear, try one lesson in the subject your child fears most. An hour with an experienced teacher reveals how far the student is from the course standard, which no prospectus can do.

02

Bihar Board, CBSE, IB or IGCSE: how do they differ for Seemanchal students?

Bihar Board or CBSE at Class 10 and 12 is what most Manihari students sit, with Katihar, Bhagalpur, Patna or Delhi to follow through JEE Main, NEET-UG or CUET-UG. Recall and speed win marks there. IB and IGCSE papers want reasoning, handling of data and long written answers in English.

Switching boards seldom reveals gaps in knowledge. It reveals gaps in the code of command words and mark schemes, which a few focused weeks tend to fill.

03

What goes into the price of IB and IGCSE tuition in Manihari?

  • Higher Level science and mathematics tutors generally charge more than junior-language tutors
  • PYP, MYP, Diploma and IGCSE tutors are largely different people
  • Even spacing over a year usually costs less than a late rush
  • Requests made late leave fewer tutors free
  • A longer commitment is simpler to timetable

What you pay for IB and IGCSE tuition in Manihari reflects the subject, the level, the tutor's experience and the weekly frequency. A written quote comes first. A single tariff would be meaningless, because teaching a Class 7 language class is nothing like teaching Higher Level Chemistry.

Because nobody travels and tutors come from all over India, a Manihari family picks on subject strength alone, whereas the closest equal specialist could otherwise be in Kolkata or Delhi.

How well lessons are timed matters more than how many there are. Routines settle in the first term, mock papers expose gaps, and the last two weeks are for polish. Many households start with Mathematics and add a science about a month later.

04

Tuition shop, online tutor or self-study in Manihari?

Three alternatives dominate in Manihari. A tuition shop in town or Katihar prepares students for Bihar Board and entrance exams, and is unlikely to know IB or IGCSE papers. Free videos teach topics but never mark an answer. An online private tutor has handled the papers and marks the work, in exchange for a quiet place and a connection you can rely on.

The final column is candid about video's limit: it cannot put apparatus in a pupil's hands.

Floods, Maghi Purnima and Chhath: the Manihari study year

The Ganges and Koshi decide the rhythm of Manihari. From July to September the rivers rise, low wards flood, roads and rail can be disturbed and power may fail for days. Online lessons survive a washed-out road, but we plan flexible slots and a backup connection for those months. From January to June the water falls and the Rajmahal Hills show along the river.

Festivals here are large. Maghi Purnima in January or February draws crowds for a Ganga bath at the ghat, with regular Ganga Aarti through the year. Holi in March, Durga Puja in October and Chhath in October or November follow. Chhath is the most important family occasion in Bihar, and the November IB and IGCSE sessions fall right after it, so heavy revision must come earlier.

Summer is hot and humid before the rains, and the May session is sat in that weather. Winters bring fog and cool mornings. We place the toughest lessons in the cooler months and keep festival weeks and flood weeks light.

06

Where do Manihari students go after an international syllabus?

From Manihari the usual destinations are universities abroad, private universities in India and central or state institutions entered through national tests.

Indian degree courses ask for an equivalence recognition from the Association of Indian Universities, which covers the Diploma and IGCSE-plus-A-Level graduates, and central universities add a CUET-UG score. Because NEET and JEE alter who is eligible from one year to the next, read the latest notice before any science or mathematics subject is given up.

Nearby options include Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University, its medical college, and colleges in Purnia and Patna, with Kolkata and Delhi further off. Overseas applicants favour the UK, Canada, the US, Australia and Singapore, and coaching for admissions tests is offered separately.

Pick the degree first and let it dictate the subjects. A short conversation before the school's deadline is usually enough.

07

What does IB Mathematics and science teaching look like on screen?

The Diploma offers two mathematics courses, and students must choose. Those who enjoy algebra and calculus, usually future engineers, belong in Analysis and Approaches. Those drawn to data, probability and modelling, often headed for commerce or social science, belong in Applications and Interpretation. We advise on fit rather than prestige.

Sharing a board means the teacher sees each step arrive and can step in the instant a sign goes wrong. The paper without a calculator is built up through a few unaided questions at the start of every class. The paper with one is built up through neat layout, which protects method marks, and through real familiarity with the allowed model.

Big ideas are seldom what sinks a science paper. The damage is done by a graph drawn to the wrong scale, a result stated without units, or an explanation that mentions a cause and stops. Each class therefore takes one such habit and works it on real past questions. Video can describe an experiment well enough; for glassware and circuits a student still needs a school or centre lab.

Work moves from single topics to mixed sets and then to full timed papers, so that speed grows out of understanding.

08

Turning the Ganges and Koshi into exam practice

A Manihari student has an unusual advantage in several subjects: the textbook examples are outside the window. In IB Geography and Environmental Systems and Societies, questions about river discharge, flood hydrographs, sediment loads and delta formation are common, and a student who has watched the Ganges and Koshi meet can picture what the diagram shows. A tutor can build on that, asking the student to sketch the local confluence before answering a data-response question.

Mathematics gains too. Applications and Interpretation courses use real data sets, and gauge readings, rainfall tables and ferry timetables make good raw material for scatter plots, regression lines and probability questions. The skill being practised is the same as in the exam; the context is simply one the student cares about, so the numbers stick.

Economics and Business Management benefit from the ghat itself. The ferry crossing to Sahebganj is a small case study in pricing, capacity, competition from rail and road, and the effect of the Farakka Barrage on older routes. Students who can explain why a service survives or declines using a local example write sharper evaluation than those relying on textbook airlines.

None of this replaces the syllabus. It is a way of making abstract questions concrete, and we use it sparingly, always bringing the student back to the exact command terms and mark scheme of the paper they will sit. Where a family has other local examples, from the Rajmahal Hills to the Maghi Purnima fair, we are glad to use those instead.

09

Core, Extended and choosing IGCSE subjects

In several subjects IGCSE entry is either Core or Extended. A Core candidate cannot reach the top grades; an Extended candidate can. Anyone intending IB Mathematics AA or A Level sciences should sit Extended.

Every IGCSE course is filed under a number: Biology is 0610 at Cambridge and 4BI1 at Edexcel. Include it in your opening message and your tutor will know the specification from the first class.

Keep options open: choose a science that interests the child, a mathematics tier that is demanding without being crushing, and the household's own language. English is assumed, and Hindi fills the remaining slot.

Where we tutor

Manihari and the Seemanchal places we teach

Since every class is online, the questions are signal, floods, power and how far a child travels to school. This is how we read each place.

Manihari town

The notified area on the Ganges bank, with private schools and tuition shops; mobile data is normally steady enough for video classes.

Manihari Ghat

The ferry landing and market, noisy in the day and calmer in the evening, when lessons run best.

Station Road area

Homes near the 1887 railway station, popular with railway-linked families used to transfers.

Low-lying ward by the Koshi confluence

Settlements that flood most years; we plan flexible slots and a backup connection for the monsoon.

Sahebganj, Jharkhand

The ferry destination nine kilometres away, whose students can take the same online lessons.

Katihar

The district headquarters and railway junction, reached by local train, with the district's largest school and coaching scene.

Kursela and Korha

Nearby Katihar-district areas on the Ganges and Koshi, where signal can be patchy.

Purnia and Kishanganj

Larger Seemanchal towns often used for higher studies and hospital visits.

Bhagalpur

The nearest big university town in Bihar, with Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University and a medical college.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Manihari

Manihari and Katihar district

We found no IB or Cambridge school in Manihari or elsewhere in Katihar district; schools here run Bihar Board or CBSE. Local choice is limited, so students study online, privately or after relocating.

    Nearby: Kolkata

The nearest large city with confirmed IB and IGCSE schools, reachable by direct train from Katihar, and where families usually look when a campus becomes the goal.

    • The Heritage School, Kolkata
    • Calcutta International School
    • Modern High School for Girls, Kolkata

    Nearby: Delhi NCR

A flight or a long rail journey from Purnia puts Delhi NCR within reach for boarding or relocation, with a wider spread of IB schools.

    • Vasant Valley School, Delhi
    • The British School, New Delhi

IB Gram acts independently of every school listed on this page. The Kolkata and Delhi names are here simply because those cities hold the nearest campuses known to teach an international programme; that is not advice to apply. Admission queries go to the school.

    Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Manihari: your questions answered

Will a teacher turn up at our door in Manihari?+

No. IB Gram sends teachers to homes in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR only. For Manihari the class happens over video, with your child and one teacher writing on the same screen, and a few lines of feedback land in your inbox when it finishes. A swollen Ganges can close the ghat road without cancelling anything.

How is the price of a tutor for Manihari worked out?+

Four things: the subject, the level, the tutor's seniority and how often you meet. We write the figure down and send it before you agree, and we have no standard rate card. Because lesson one is free, you hear the teaching before any money moves.

Which school should we look at for IB or IGCSE near Manihari?+

None that we could verify in Manihari or Katihar district. The nearest confirmed campuses are in Kolkata, many hours away by train. That distance is why many local families use an online school or study privately. Always check a school's offer with the school itself.

Can a student here enter IGCSE exams without a Cambridge school?+

In most cases, yes, as a private candidate. An approved Cambridge or Edexcel centre has to agree, the science practical papers need some arrangement, and the entry deadline cannot move. Kolkata or Patna may hold the nearest centre. We teach; the centre examines.

At what time of day do Manihari students study best?+

After the ferry rush and market noise die down, which usually means evening, with long papers on Sunday mornings. Flood weeks, Maghi Purnima, Holi, Chhath and Diwali each reshape the calendar, and May afternoons are too hot for hard thinking.

Does a tutor help write the internal assessment or Extended Essay?+

A tutor may unpack the marking criteria, describe what a convincing investigation looks like and point out thin reasoning. Drafting any of it is forbidden and would endanger the diploma. Your child must produce the text, gather the data and draw the conclusions.

What if the internet is slow in our part of town?+

A few megabits per second are sufficient for video and a shared board, whether through broadband or a phone hotspot. If floods or storms threaten the power, charge the laptop beforehand and keep another operator's SIM in reserve.

Is the first class truly without cost?+

Yes. It is real teaching on something your child finds difficult, plus a written summary, and you owe nothing if you stop there. Where tutor and student do not get along, we offer another tutor before any invoice exists.

Do you also help PYP and MYP children?+

We do. Primary pupils get reading and number games, MYP pupils get help decoding criteria, Diploma pupils get depth in each subject. If one tutor suits, that person can stay with the child as the programme advances.

Maths AA or Maths AI: how should we choose?+

Let the degree choose. A route towards engineering, such as NIT Patna, needs calculus and therefore Analysis and Approaches. A route towards economics, psychology or business needs statistics and therefore Applications and Interpretation. Each runs at two levels, and a trial lesson in both removes doubt.

Could the IB keep my child out of NEET or JEE?+

Not by itself. Eligibility depends on the subjects studied and on rules the testing agency republishes yearly, including how it regards the IB and IGCSE with A Level. The official bulletin decides that, not us. We teach the science and mathematics content those exams draw on.

Are Cambridge and Edexcel both covered?+

Yes. Each course carries a code: Chemistry is 0620 at Cambridge and 4CH1 at Edexcel. Give us the code on your child's subject list and we will find someone who has taught that exact specification.

When is the right time to begin for November?+

Early August, if you can. Durga Puja, Chhath and Diwali bunch together just ahead of the November papers, so we go gently in festival weeks and put the tougher past papers into September.

Can friends across the river in Sahebganj join similar lessons?+

Any pupil with a laptop and a connection that holds can. Families in Sahebganj, Katihar, Kursela or elsewhere get the same private live class, timed around their own school day.

    How do we start?+

Open WhatsApp on +91 7439 368 115, or email support@ibgram.com, with your child's class, the worrying subject, the school or online school and the word Manihari. A tutor and a trial time usually reach you within a day.
