IB and IGCSE Tutors and Online Home Tuition in Kharar

Private home tuition for IB and IGCSE students living in Kharar, arranged online because tutors do not visit houses in Punjab. Many Kharar children commute to schools in Mohali or Chandigarh, so our lessons are timed for the evening after the bus ride and cover whatever the school teaches in the day, at a slower and more personal pace.

  • Live online one-to-one lessons, fitted to a commuting student's evening
  • No tutor visits in Kharar; home visits run only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR
  • Tutors match your child's school syllabus, board and exam session

IB & IGCSE in Kharar

Kharar is where Chandigarh's school-going families now live

Anyone looking for home tuition in Kharar for the IB or IGCSE is rarely looking for a school in Kharar itself. The town, on the road from Chandigarh towards Ropar, has grown into a dormitory for the tricity, with apartment societies and plotted colonies full of families who work in Mohali, Chandigarh and Panchkula. Their children often attend international schools elsewhere, and come home to Kharar at the end of a long day.

That changes what a tutor is for. The school has already covered the syllabus; what the student often lacks is the hour of undivided explanation that a classroom of thirty cannot give. Our tutors work with the child's own notes, textbook and past papers, in the evening, without another commute on top of the school one.

We do not send tutors to Kharar homes. In-person home tuition runs only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR, so lessons here are live, private and online, with a shared whiteboard and a short written note after each session.

IB Gram is independent of the IB, Cambridge, Pearson Edexcel and every school named on this page. Tutors coach and explain; they do not write Internal Assessments, Extended Essays, TOK essays or coursework for any student.

At a glance

  • Kharar is a residential town for tricity commuters; we cannot confirm an IB or IGCSE school inside it
  • Children usually attend school in Mohali or Chandigarh, then study with us at home
  • Online lessons only, because tutors do not visit homes outside Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR
  • A free trial lesson, then a note after each class
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to Kharar school years

Because Kharar students learn the programme at a school elsewhere, the question is not what the IB or IGCSE is, but where a student needs extra hours. This is how each stage tends to look from a Kharar kitchen table.

PYPClass 1-5, ages 6-11

IB Primary Years Programme

Inquiry-led learning across six themes, finishing with the PYP Exhibition. Tutoring supports reading stamina, number confidence and the skill of turning a question into a small research project.

Young Kharar learners often spend an hour on the school bus, so tutors keep PYP sessions short and playful rather than adding a second long class.

MYPClass 6-10, ages 11-16

IB Middle Years Programme

Criterion-based assessment across subject groups, with service learning and the Personal Project. A student can understand a topic yet not show it in the way a criterion asks.

MYP students from Kharar typically need help turning classroom understanding into written analysis, and with managing project deadlines alongside a full school day.

DPClass 11-12, ages 16-19

IB Diploma Programme

Three HL and three SL subjects, plus the Extended Essay, TOK and CAS. Exams fall in May, with a November session for some candidates.

A DP student from Kharar usually has a school-based timetable that starts early and ends late, so evening online lessons are used for one hard subject at a time.

CPClass 11-12, ages 16-19

IB Career-related Programme

Two or more DP courses combined with a career-related study, a reflective project and skills for work.

We receive very few CP enquiries from Kharar; where they come, we concentrate on the DP subjects that the pathway includes.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around Kharar school timetables

In Kharar the format is online, but families use it differently from those in cities with no school nearby. Most are supplementing a school that already teaches the course.

Second-explanation weekly class

A single evening each week, working through the topic the school covered that week, for students who nod in class but struggle at home.

  • Uses the school's own notes
  • Short practice set after each lesson
  • Parents get a two-line summary

Assessment-season support

Extra sessions in the weeks before internal exams, mocks or final papers, concentrating on timing and mark schemes.

  • Two or three lessons a week for a few weeks
  • Marked practice papers
  • A list of topics to fix first

Catch-up after a change of school

For a student who has moved to a tricity school midway and needs to close gaps between two different syllabuses.

  • Diagnostic paper first
  • Gap plan for the term
  • Weekly check on progress

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Kharar

01

What school options do Kharar families have for the IB and IGCSE?

  • CBSE and Punjab board schools dominate inside Kharar
  • International schools are in Mohali and Chandigarh
  • Families choose Kharar for housing, then commute for school
  • Tutoring fits the hours after the commute

Kharar's schools mostly follow CBSE and the Punjab board, and we cannot confirm an IB or Cambridge school inside the town. That is not the whole picture, because Kharar sits within easy reach of Mohali and Chandigarh, where families have more choice. The international route is therefore a commute.

The households behind the enquiries are varied. There are corporate employees moved to Mohali's industrial and IT parks, defence and government families posted to the tricity, and Punjabi families with relatives abroad who want a recognised qualification. Many of them chose Kharar because housing costs less than in Chandigarh.

The commute shapes tutoring. A child who leaves at seven and returns at five has little energy left, so the lesson needs to be short, focused and on the weak spot, not a repeat of the school day.

We keep the school list honest, naming only places we have verified on neighbouring city pages and labelling them as nearby.

02

How do CBSE, Punjab board, IGCSE and IB compare for a Kharar student?

CBSE follows NCERT and rewards precision on well-defined questions, and Punjab board papers are similar in spirit. Both lead naturally to JEE, NEET or CUET-UG. The IGCSE and IB make different demands: they reward explanation, evaluation and application to unfamiliar situations.

For a student moving across from CBSE, the shock is usually writing. A science answer that earned full marks for a formula now needs a reason and a link to context. Tutors help with that shift gradually, using the student's own school papers.

Consider also where the child is heading. Mohali and Chandigarh colleges, Chandigarh University nearby, Panjab University and overseas applications all treat these qualifications differently, so the choice of board should follow the destination.

The table compares the four routes for a Kharar family.

03

What does IB or IGCSE tuition cost for a Kharar student, and what sets the rate?

  • Subject and level
  • Hours per week
  • Tutor experience
  • Whether the goal is explanation, practice or exam timing

We publish no prices, because the rate is set by the subject, the level, the tutor's experience and how often you meet. A Higher Level Chemistry tutor with examiner experience will quote differently from someone supporting Class 8 English.

A Kharar student already in a good school usually needs fewer hours than someone studying mostly alone. One evening a week may be enough for a single weak topic, and two or three may be needed before a mock.

The rate arrives in writing before any booking, the first lesson is free, and families can stop or swap tutors at any point. We avoid long contracts because needs change after each exam.

If your child has several weak subjects, we suggest fixing one at a time, so the evening after a commute is not overloaded.

04

Online tutor, tricity coaching centre, local home tutor or self-study: what works for Kharar?

The tricity has many tuition centres, and some serve IB and IGCSE students. Their disadvantage for a Kharar family is another commute, often in evening traffic on the Chandigarh road. Fixed batch timings also rarely match a student's exact weak spots.

A local private tutor can be reassuring, but few teach the IB, and marking IB answers takes specific experience. Self-study works for motivated students with good past papers, though errors can harden unnoticed.

Online tuition removes the road. A tutor with years of teaching a specific course joins at a fixed hour, marks working on a shared screen, and sends a written note. The student stays at home, rests after school and studies with attention.

We say plainly that tutors do not visit homes in Kharar, and that a stable internet connection is needed.

05

How does the tricity school calendar shape the Kharar study year?

Kharar follows the rhythm of the Chandigarh and Mohali schools its children attend. Terms generally start in April, with winter breaks in December and January, and exam weeks cluster before those breaks. A tutor who knows the pattern can time the heavy revision sensibly.

Punjab's seasons add layers. Winter fog can make the morning drive unpleasant, and in October and November smoke from stubble burning across the region affects air quality. Indoor evening lessons suit both.

Festivals punctuate the year with Lohri, Baisakhi, Diwali and Gurpurab, often with family travel. Many tricity families have relatives abroad and travel in winter or summer, so lessons need an easy way to pause and resume.

International exams sit on top: IB papers in May with a November session for some, and IGCSE series in May-June and October-November.

06

Where can Kharar students go after the IB or IGCSE?

  • Chandigarh University and CGC Landran close by
  • Panjab University, PEC and IISER Mohali within reach
  • AIU equivalence and CUET-UG for Indian routes
  • UK, Canada, Australia and the US for study abroad

Kharar students sit unusually close to a cluster of universities. Chandigarh University at Gharuan, Chandigarh Group of Colleges at Landran and Panjab University in Chandigarh are all within reach, along with Punjab Engineering College and the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research in Mohali.

For Indian admission, the Association of Indian Universities issues IB Diploma equivalence, and CUET-UG accepts IB students where course rules fit. Medicine and engineering entrance rules change, so families should read the latest notices.

Abroad, the UK, Canada, Australia and the US attract most enquiries from the tricity, with IB scores and IGCSE-plus-A Level results feeding applications.

We tutor the subjects behind those applications. We do not promise offers and we do not write personal statements.

07

How are IB Maths AA, AI and the sciences taught online for a commuting student?

Mathematics comes in two forms. Analysis and Approaches is algebra and calculus heavy and suits future engineers and scientists, while Applications and Interpretation emphasises data and modelling for business and social science students. The right choice depends on university entry rules.

Online, the tutor and student write on a shared page, so each step is visible. Calculator and spreadsheet screens are shared for statistics, which fixes technique at once.

Science lessons follow a pattern: short explanation, exam-style question, mark-scheme check, then a harder question. Practical work uses data sets and video, because the student must do and write the Internal Assessment alone.

We keep lessons to the hour the student has energy for, since a tired student after a long commute learns less from a two-hour lesson.

08

How do Core and Extended IGCSE differ, and which subjects suit a Kharar student?

IGCSE Mathematics and some sciences come in Core and Extended tiers. Core caps the top grade, while Extended reaches the full range. A student aiming for IB Maths HL or A Level Maths needs Extended.

Subjects follow direction. A future doctor or engineer will usually take Mathematics and the three sciences. A student drawn to commerce adds Economics, Business Studies or Computer Science, and everyone needs a strong English result.

Cambridge and Edexcel differ in layout and emphasis, so the school's board and code come first. A student at a tricity school will already be registered, and the tutor works within that plan.

Families moving from CBSE to IGCSE in Class 9 should allow a term for the change in writing style.

09

How should a Kharar parent split a school week between commute, homework and tutoring?

A child who boards a school bus before seven and returns at half past four has perhaps four usable hours before sleep. Homework takes most of it, so a tutoring hour has to earn its place. We ask parents to pick the one subject where marks are being lost, not to book four at once.

The pattern that works best for Kharar families is simple. Keep Monday to Thursday for homework and one fixed lesson, use Friday as a light day, and save Sunday morning for a longer practice paper when the student is fresh. Tutors mark that paper during the week and explain the errors in the next lesson.

Exam weeks change the picture. Two weeks before internal tests, it often helps to add a second weekly lesson, then drop back after the papers. After results, a short review of the marks tells us where the next term's hours should go.

Parents sometimes worry that an extra hour will exhaust a young child. For PYP and early MYP students we keep lessons to thirty or forty minutes, with a break built in, and we stop if the child is clearly tired.

If a family is about to move house within the tricity, for example to Mullanpur or a Mohali sector, tutoring carries on without a change, because the lesson lives on a laptop and not in a particular room.

Where we tutor

Kharar's colonies, sectors and roads

Kharar's growth has produced a patchwork of sectors, societies and older lanes. These notes describe the parts we hear from, with what matters for lesson timing and commuting.

Sunny Enclave

A large planned colony near the Chandigarh side of town, popular with tricity professionals. Evening lessons suit families where both parents return late.

Gillco Valley

Gated society living off the Kharar to Landran stretch, with many families who send children to schools in Mohali.

Sector 115

A newer sector where apartment buildings are full of relocating families; broadband is generally good here.

Landran Road

The corridor towards Landran, with student housing and families connected to the colleges nearby.

Kharar old town and bus stand

The older market area. Noisy in the evening, so a closed room helps during live lessons.

Mundi Kharar

A long-established locality on the town's edge where families often combine work in the trade with school in a nearby city.

Kharar to Banur road

Growing housing along the road, with families who travel to Mohali or Zirakpur for work.

Mullanpur and New Chandigarh

A new township zone within reach of Kharar, where buildings are new and families often relocate from elsewhere.

School ecosystem

    Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Kharar: your questions answered

Is there an IB or IGCSE school in Kharar?+

We cannot confirm one inside Kharar. The nearest confirmed international options are in Mohali and Chandigarh, both a short drive away. Most Kharar families either commute to those schools or choose local CBSE or Punjab board schools and add an online tutor for the international syllabus.

Do tutors come to our home in Kharar?+

No. Tutors do not visit homes in Kharar; in-person home tuition runs only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR. Lessons here are private, live and one to one, taught online while your child sits at a laptop at home and the tutor works on video.

Can my child get IB home tuition in Kharar without travelling?+

Yes, as online home tuition. Your child stays at home, the tutor joins by video at a fixed evening time, and both write on a shared page. The lesson has the attention of a private tutor with no travel through the Chandigarh-Ropar traffic.

How much does tuition cost in Kharar?+

We do not publish prices. The rate depends on the subject, the level, the tutor's experience and how many sessions a week you need. You receive the rate in writing before booking, the first lesson is free, and you can stop at any point without penalty.

Will tutors follow my child's school schedule?+

Yes. Tutors work from your child's own notes, textbook and past papers, and follow the order the school teaches topics. We ask for the school's scheme of work at the start so each lesson reinforces class, not repeats it in a different order.

    Which evening suits commuting students?+

Most Kharar families choose lessons from six in the evening, after the bus or car ride and a short rest. One hour is usually enough. We avoid very late slots, since a tired student learns less, and leave Sundays free for longer sessions before exams.

Can you help with a school move from CBSE to IGCSE?+

Yes. A tutor begins with a diagnostic paper to see where the gaps are, then builds a plan that covers missing topics and the change in writing style. Most students need a term to settle, and progress is reported in written notes after each lesson.

Do tutors write the Internal Assessment or Extended Essay?+

No. Tutors coach, ask questions and comment on structure, but they do not write Internal Assessments, Extended Essays, TOK essays or coursework. Those must be the student's own, and our tutors keep to that rule for every candidate.

Which IB Maths course is right?+

It depends on the destination. Analysis and Approaches suits engineering and pure science, while Applications and Interpretation suits economics, business and social science. Check the entry requirements of the target university course, and let the school's advice inform the final choice.

When are the IB and IGCSE exams?+

IB Diploma exams run in May, with a November session for some candidates. IGCSE has a May-June series and an October-November series. Your child's school confirms which session they are entered for, and we plan revision backwards from that date.

How does the free trial work?+

It is a real lesson on a current topic, with no fee and no commitment. The tutor teaches, asks questions and sends a short note afterwards. If the fit is wrong, we propose a different tutor, and you owe nothing for the trial.

Can younger children in PYP or MYP have lessons?+

Yes. For PYP, tutors support reading, number work and the Exhibition. For MYP, they help with criteria-based writing and the Personal Project. The help is coaching: the child does the thinking and the tutor guides, in short sessions.

What about internet reliability in Kharar's newer colonies?+

Broadband is usually good in societies such as Sunny Enclave and Gillco Valley, but we still suggest a test call before the trial and a phone hotspot as backup. If a session drops, the tutor reschedules within the week.

Can Kharar IB students apply to Indian universities?+

Generally yes. The Association of Indian Universities gives IB Diploma equivalence and CUET-UG accepts IB students in many cases. Professional courses have their own rules, so check each institution's notice. Tutors teach subjects and do not advise on admission.

    How do I start?+

Write to support@ibgram.com or message +91 7439 368 115 on WhatsApp with the school, board, subject and level. We reply with a tutor profile and a rate in writing, then fix a free trial in the evening after your child's commute.
