IB and IGCSE Tutors and Online Home Tuition in Kanhangad

Online home tuition for Kanhangad students following the IB or IGCSE: one-to-one lessons live on video from tutors matched to your child's exact course and exam board. It works for children who studied in the Gulf, board in Mangaluru or Kochi, or are preparing for a move into an international school.

  • Tutors are chosen for the exact IB subject and level or IGCSE code a child is entered for, not for a vague curriculum label
  • Every lesson happens on screen; no tutor comes to a house in Kanhangad, and in-person home tuition is offered only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR
  • A free first lesson and a written note come before any commitment
  • IB Gram has no tie to the IB, Cambridge, Pearson Edexcel or any school, and tutors never write a student's coursework

IB & IGCSE in Kanhangad

Online home tuition for a Kasaragod family following an international board

Kanhangad sits almost exactly between Mangaluru and Kannur, with the Arabian Sea to the west and the Western Ghats rising in the east. It is the most populous town in Kasaragod district, a place of coconut groves, rubber and cashew estates, and a real historical weight: the Congress Working Committee met here on 1 January 1925. Many households depend on a family member working in the Gulf, which is why parents here are more familiar than most with the IB and IGCSE, having seen their own children or nephews take them in Dubai, Doha or Muscat.

The problem is what happens on return. A child who finished Grade 8 at a Cambridge school in Sharjah may find no IB or IGCSE school within easy reach of Kanhangad, and the nearest real choices are in Mangaluru, around 85 km away, or in Kochi much further south. Others stay in the Gulf while a mother and children live at home for a few years, or a boarder comes home for Onam and needs to catch up. For all of them, online home tuition is the realistic support.

Kerala's classrooms run on the State syllabus and CBSE, and Malayalam, Kannada, Tulu and Konkani all have a place in daily life in Kasaragod. That linguistic richness is an advantage for language study but a hurdle for English-medium written exams, so tutors spend time on phrasing a precise English answer.

We are an independent tutoring service. The IB, Cambridge, Pearson Edexcel and the schools named on this page have no connection with us, and tutors teach and explain without drafting an Internal Assessment, Extended Essay or other coursework.

At a glance

  • Suits Gulf-returned families, boarders at Mangaluru or Kochi and early planners
  • Timings can work with parents abroad, since IST is easy to convert
  • Explanations in English with Malayalam or Hindi help when needed
  • Online only in Kanhangad; home visits are a Gurugram and Delhi NCR service
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to Kanhangad school years

No school in Kanhangad or elsewhere in Kasaragod district is confirmed by us as an IB World School, so each programme here is followed in another city or another country. The notes describe the demands of each stage and how a Kanhangad family tends to meet it.

PYPClass Nursery-5, ages 3-12

IB Primary Years Programme

Children learn through units of inquiry that cross subject lines and close with a student-led Exhibition. Formal exams do not exist, so tutoring aims at reading stamina, spoken reasoning in maths and questions a child can actually investigate.

PYP help in Kanhangad is usually for a child returning from a Gulf school, where a parent wants English reading and number work to stay steady through the move.

MYPClass 6-10, ages 11-16

IB Middle Years Programme

Subjects are assessed against four criteria each, units link to global contexts, and Year 5 ends with a Personal Project. Students tend to describe when a criterion asks them to justify, which is easy to fix once a tutor points it out.

A Kanhangad MYP student may be a boarder in Mangaluru or home after Gulf schooling, so sessions often revolve around an unfinished criterion task or a science report.

DPClass 11-12, ages 16-19

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects, the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and CAS make up the Diploma. Externally marked papers come in May, internal assessments are moderated internationally, and results are released in July.

A Diploma student linked to Kanhangad is most often overseas or in another Indian city during term, and comes home for long breaks, so lessons use both term evenings and holiday blocks.

CPClass 11-12, ages 16-19

IB Career-related Programme

CP combines two or more Diploma courses with career-related study, a reflective project and service learning. It is offered by very few Indian schools, so tutoring is almost always help in the Diploma courses within the pathway.

We rarely see CP requests from Kanhangad. When they come, the focus is the academic Diploma courses, not the career study.

Subject coverage

IB subjects we tutor

The first thing we ask is level, subject and exam series, because a Chemistry SL student and a Chemistry HL student work on different problems. We then look at what the school has already marked and what the next deadline is.

IB Maths Analysis & Approaches

HL / SL

Functions, calculus and proof-style problems are practised until algebra is no longer the bottleneck, and the Exploration topic is fixed early so that it does not become a last-minute scramble.

IB Maths Applications & Interpretation

HL / SL

Modelling, probability and statistics are taught with attention to justifying a model's choice and describing its limits in words, which is where marks are often dropped.

IB Physics

HL / SL

Data-booklet fluency and uncertainty handling come first, then the tougher topics such as fields and quantum physics, with the investigation's method reviewed before any data is gathered.

IB Chemistry

HL / SL

Calculation types are rehearsed until they feel routine, organic reaction schemes are drawn from memory, and practical reports are read against the criteria line by line.

IB Biology

HL / SL

Students practise matching answer length to command term and learn which statistical test suits which experiment, using coastal and estuary examples familiar from Kasaragod.

IB Economics

HL / SL

Diagrams are paired with real examples such as remittance flows, coconut and rubber prices and Kerala's service economy, then pushed into evaluative paragraphs.

IB Business Management

HL / SL

Case-study practice teaches how to apply a concept to the named firm and reach a recommendation that weighs stakeholders.

IB English A Language & Literature

HL / SL

Unseen commentary, comparative writing and the Individual Oral get separate structured practice with written feedback.

IB Computer Science

HL / SL

Algorithms and data structures are traced by hand and in code, and the internal solution is documented as it develops.

IB Psychology

HL / SL

Research studies are learnt in a consistent pattern and turned into evaluated essay paragraphs under timed conditions.

IB Environmental Systems & Societies

SL / HL

Monsoon, mangroves, coastal erosion and backwater systems give a natural set of local examples for system diagrams and evaluation answers.

IB Geography

HL / SL

Case studies with named places, dates and figures, and data-response practice with maps and graphs.

IB Hindi B

SL / HL

Kerala students often come to Hindi as a third language, so practice covers accuracy, written tasks and a confident interactive oral.

Theory of Knowledge (TOK)

DP Core

A tutor acts as a sparring partner for the exhibition and essay questions. Ideas are challenged in conversation; the writing is the student's.

IGCSE coverage

IGCSE subjects we tutor

IGCSE students tied to Kanhangad most often studied at a Cambridge or Edexcel school in the Gulf, or are doing a course from a Mangaluru school. We confirm the board, code and tier first, because Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel papers reward slightly different habits.

IGCSE Mathematics 0580 / 4MA1

Core / Extended

Extended students practise algebra, geometry and clearly shown working, since both boards award method marks even when a final answer slips.

IGCSE Additional Mathematics 0606

Grade 10

Calculus and trigonometry are introduced with a view to IB Maths AA or A Level, so the later step up is gentler.

IGCSE Physics 0625 / 4PH1

Core / Extended

Rearranging equations, reading graphs and planning an experiment are practised under time pressure.

IGCSE Chemistry 0620 / 4CH1

Core / Extended

Mole calculations, electrolysis and organic families are built up step by step, with qualitative analysis tests learnt as a table.

IGCSE Biology 0610 / 4BI1

Core / Extended

Long answers in genetics, transport and coordination are written to the mark scheme's language, with labelled diagrams.

IGCSE Economics 0455

Grade 9-10

Demand and supply diagrams come quickly, and the real gains come from balanced evaluation in longer answers.

IGCSE Computer Science 0478

Grade 9-10

Python and pseudocode are learnt together so that the logic paper feels familiar.

IGCSE English First Language 0500

Grade 9-10

Directed writing, summary and narrative are practised on unseen passages with notes on tone and accuracy, a real help for Malayalam-speaking students.

IGCSE Hindi as a Second Language 0549

Grade 9-10

Comprehension and composition tasks are practised in the exam format, for students who study Hindi as an additional language.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around Kanhangad school timetables

Three patterns cover most Kanhangad households. Each takes place on a laptop or tablet at home, and none involves a tutor travelling to a Kanhangad house, because in-person visits run only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR.

Weekly one-to-one lessons

A fixed evening or weekend slot with one tutor. Steady weekly practice, even through monsoon power cuts, tends to do more for grades than a few frantic sessions.

  • For DP, MYP, PYP and IGCSE students
  • A shared whiteboard stands in for the desk
  • The same tutor sees a whole term
  • Slots can suit Gulf-based parents too

Weekly lessons with a parent review

The regular slot runs alongside a written note after every lesson and a periodic call with the parent, which helps families where one parent is abroad and wants to follow progress from there.

  • Notes list topics and homework
  • Review calls reset priorities
  • Helps a parent in the Gulf stay informed
  • Simple to change tutor if needed

Holiday and exam intensives

Several lessons a week across the Onam break, Christmas holidays or the weeks before an exam series, with timed papers and quick marking. Planned away from monsoon peaks when outages are likely.

  • Papers marked to the current mark scheme
  • Weak topics get extra time
  • Booked two to three weeks ahead
  • Starts with a diagnostic paper

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Kanhangad

01

Which IB and IGCSE schools can a Kanhangad family realistically consider?

  • No confirmed IB or genuine IGCSE school in Kanhangad or Kasaragod
  • Mangaluru is the nearest real option at roughly 85 km
  • Gulf schooling is a common source of IGCSE experience
  • Online tutoring avoids a move just to find a specialist

Within Kanhangad and the wider Kasaragod district, classrooms follow the Kerala State syllabus and CBSE, and we could not confirm an IB or genuine Cambridge or Edexcel school. Kerala parents know that the word 'International' in a school's name does not always mean an international syllabus, so check the affiliation directly.

The closest serious options are in Mangaluru, where several schools are listed for Cambridge programmes, including three with a Cambridge name and two Cambridge Primary feeder schools. The distance is around 85 km, so a daily commute is unrealistic for most and families consider boarding, a rented flat or a move.

Kochi, several hours south, offers a wider choice of international schools but is a bigger decision still. Some Kasaragod families also consider Kannur and Kozhikode, though we cannot confirm IB or IGCSE provision in every case and so only name schools we have verified.

With so little on the doorstep, the Gulf often supplies the IB or IGCSE experience: a child has done three years at a Cambridge school in the UAE. Tutoring then serves as a bridge that keeps the child's course going, and since examiners worldwide use the same mark schemes, location of the tutor does not matter.

Kerala State syllabus, CBSE, IB or IGCSE: what differs for a Kanhangad student?

Kerala's State syllabus is strong on factual coverage and is set against SSLC in Class 10 and Higher Secondary in Class 12, with exams typically in March. CBSE follows a similar spring window, and both reward accurate, complete answers. IB and IGCSE retain the subject content but ask for application, data interpretation and structured argument.

Language is the quiet challenge. Malayalam is the home language for most, and Kasaragod families may also speak Kannada, Tulu or Konkani, but the exams are in English. A tutor who can explain a concept in simple English first, and translate a key word when needed, can unlock a student who understands the idea but loses marks in phrasing.

The calendar differs too. Kerala board exams are in March, IB sits in May with results in July, and IGCSE is May-June, October-November and, for Cambridge in India, February-March. A student switching boards may find a gap year-end or an overlap, so planning matters.

No board suits every child. The sensible question is where the student wants to study next and whether the board keeps that door open, and tuition should follow the board the student is actually in.

03

What shapes the price of IB or IGCSE tuition in Kanhangad?

  • Rate set by experience, level, length and frequency
  • Written quote before the first paid lesson
  • No commuting costs or monsoon travel
  • Plans can be scaled up or down by term

We do not publish a price list. Rates depend on the tutor, the subject and the pattern of lessons, and you receive the figure in writing before paying for anything. The trial lesson is free, so you can judge teaching before thinking about money.

Experience and level count most. A tutor with years of Higher Level Physics and moderating experience commands a different rate from one teaching introductory science. Scarcer topics, such as IGCSE Additional Mathematics or IB Computer Science HL, may also cost more.

Frequency and length affect the monthly total. One hour a week is a modest regular commitment, while daily revision in the fortnight before an exam is an intensive one. We settle the plan with you and revisit it each term.

Kerala parents are practical about fees and often compare with tuition centres in town. The fair comparison is attention per student: a batch of twenty against a one-to-one lesson. Online lessons also remove the commute through monsoon traffic and save the cost of petrol or bus fares.

04

Do online lessons beat tuition centres, local tutors and self-study in Kanhangad?

Kerala has a dense tuition culture, and Kanhangad is no exception: entrance coaching and subject tuition are easy to find. Nearly all of it is built for the State syllabus, CBSE and the entrance tests, so an IB or IGCSE student may sit in a class where the questions are different from the ones on their own papers.

A good local tutor may be excellent for school physics or chemistry but may never have used the IB data booklet or written a Cambridge Paper 6 answer. Self-study with past papers helps an organised student, but unmarked errors quickly become habits.

Online tutors fill the specialist gap. The teacher might be in Bengaluru or Pune and share a screen to correct your child's working as it appears. The weaknesses are reliance on good internet, which monsoon weather can disrupt, and the lack of a physical presence in the room.

To be clear, tutors do not visit homes in Kanhangad; in-person visits are offered only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR. The table sets out the options.

05

How do the monsoon, Onam and theyyam season shape the study year in Kanhangad?

The southwest monsoon arrives around late May or June and runs through September, followed by the northeast monsoon from October. For students this means power cuts, flooded roads and occasionally school closures, and for online tutoring it means a backup plan: a charged laptop, a phone hotspot and a spare slot in the week.

From December to February the weather is dry and pleasant, which is the best time for heavy revision. This is also the core of the theyyam season across north Malabar, and many families travel to ritual performances, so lessons are lighter in a few specific weeks.

Onam in late summer is a long family holiday, Vishu in April is another, and Christmas is widely observed. For a Gulf-linked family, school breaks often coincide with visits from a parent abroad. We build the plan around these dates and avoid placing a mock paper in the middle of a family occasion.

Exam dates do not move for any of this, so early planning matters. We suggest starting the final revision cycle at least five months ahead.

06

What are the university pathways for a Kanhangad IB or IGCSE student?

  • AIU equivalence supports Indian admission for IB holders
  • KEAM, JEE, NEET and CUET rules must be checked from current notices
  • Kannur University and the Central University of Kerala are in the region
  • Gulf, UK, Canadian and Australian universities read IB and IGCSE results

The IB Diploma is recognised in India through Association of Indian Universities equivalence, and many central and private institutions accept it directly or through CUET-UG. Kerala's own entrance processes, including KEAM for professional courses, publish their own rules for students from other boards, so read the current notice and not hearsay.

Closer to home, colleges in Kasaragod district are affiliated to Kannur University, and the Central University of Kerala at Periya offers another option in the district. Wider choices include NIT Calicut, IIT Palakkad, CUSAT and medical colleges across the state, each with its own admission rules for international-board students.

Many Kanhangad families look abroad. The Gulf connection makes the UAE and Gulf universities an obvious choice, and the UK, Canada and Australia are widely considered. IB points and IGCSE-plus-A-Level results are understood in all of them.

Tutoring supports subject grades, which drive every one of these paths. Decisions on courses and applications are best made with the school counsellor and official websites.

07

How are IB Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology taught to students in Kanhangad?

Maths comes first because it affects so many later choices. Analysis and Approaches supports engineering, economics and pure science, while Applications and Interpretation suits business and social science. A tutor reviews a student's early work and the target course before the school's window to switch closes.

The sciences follow a cycle of concept, worked example and timed question, with the data booklet open throughout. Physics and Chemistry rely on calculation fluency, and Biology on precise vocabulary and command terms, so different drills apply.

Practical work stays at school, but tutors review design, data, graphs and conclusions. Students without much lab time can use simulations and open datasets to keep analysis skills moving. The investigation is always the student's own work.

A final point is load. Three Higher Level subjects with the Extended Essay and TOK is a heavy programme, and we will tell a family honestly if a plan looks unrealistic.

08

IGCSE Core or Extended: how should a Kanhangad student choose?

Core tier tops out at grade C and Extended reaches A star. A student who plans to continue a subject at A Level or in the IB should take Extended, while a student using a subject as background may choose Core if allowed. The decision is best made early with the school.

A standard line-up includes English, Mathematics, two or three sciences, a humanity or commerce subject and a language. Hindi as a second language is offered on the Cambridge list, while Malayalam support depends on the school.

Cambridge and Edexcel differ in paper layout and question style, so a student should follow one consistently, and a tutor needs the exact code, such as 0580 or 4MA1.

Entry series matter. Cambridge offers an India-specific February-March series in addition to May-June and October-November, so plans should start from whichever series the school has entered the student for.

Where we tutor

Kanhangad localities and nearby towns we match online

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Kanhangad: your questions answered

Are there IB or IGCSE tutors in Kanhangad?+

Our tutors are not based in Kanhangad, and very few specialists anywhere in Kasaragod teach these boards. They teach live online from across India, so a Kanhangad student can study with someone who has taught the exact subject and level. The first lesson is free and shows whether the format suits your child.

Can I get IB or IGCSE home tuition in Kanhangad?+

You can get online home tuition: private one-to-one lessons your child takes at home on a laptop. Tutors do not visit homes in Kanhangad, and in-person home tuition is offered only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR. You still receive undivided attention, a shared screen and a written note after lessons.

Which schools near Kanhangad teach the IB or IGCSE?+

We cannot confirm one inside Kanhangad. In Mangaluru, about 85 km north, The Bharath Academy, TLC Cambridge International School and The Cambridge International School in Adyar are listed for Cambridge, and in Kochi there are TIPS Kochi, The Choice School and Cochin International School. Check current affiliation with each school.

What does IB or IGCSE tuition cost in Kanhangad?+

No fixed prices are published because the rate depends on the tutor's experience, the level, the lesson length and how many lessons a week you want. You receive the rate in writing before booking and the trial is free. Online lessons avoid travel costs, which offsets part of the expense.

My child is back from the Gulf. Can tutoring keep the IGCSE course going?+

Yes, this is one of our most common requests. A tutor can continue the same Cambridge or Edexcel syllabus if your child is still registered, or help move content and answer style towards the Kerala State syllabus or CBSE if the family is changing boards. The first lesson is a diagnostic.

Can lessons fit around a parent working abroad?+

Yes. Lessons run on Indian Standard Time, which is easy to convert for the UAE, Qatar, Oman or Saudi Arabia. We send written notes after each lesson so a parent abroad can follow progress, and monthly review calls can be timed for a convenient hour in the Gulf.

Will tutors write IA or Extended Essay work?+

No. Tutors help with criteria, choosing a workable question and structure through feedback, but the IB requires that the work is the candidate's own and so tutors never write it. Ask the school what outside help is allowed for internal assessments.

Cambridge or Edexcel: how do we know which applies?+

The school decides, and the syllabus code on your child's timetable tells you. Cambridge Mathematics is 0580 and Edexcel is 4MA1. Give us the code and we match a tutor who has taught that specification, because the two boards differ in layout and question style.

When should preparation for the May exams start?+

Start serious revision about five months before, add timed papers from three months out and use the last two weeks for error logs. In Kanhangad the dry months from December to March are good for concentrated work before the monsoon arrives and disrupts power and roads.

Does online teaching work for IB Maths?+

Yes. A shared tablet screen lets student and tutor write solutions together, and the tutor corrects working as it appears. Confirm the student has an approved calculator and has settled between Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation with the school.

How are science practicals handled?+

Practicals happen at school, but tutors review the design, data, graphs and conclusions, where many marks are lost. Simulations can supplement analysis practice where lab time is limited. The investigation itself remains the student's own work.

What if the monsoon knocks out power or internet?+

Keep a charged laptop and a phone hotspot ready. If the connection fails, lessons can continue by voice with a shared document, and a missed lesson because of a long outage can be rescheduled. We talk through backup plans at the trial lesson.

Can my child keep Malayalam alongside an international course?+

That depends on the school. IB schools may offer Malayalam through a school-supported route, and Hindi B is widely available. At IGCSE, Hindi as a second language is on the Cambridge list. Ask the school which languages it teaches; tutors can support reading, writing and oral work in the format the student is entered for.

Can parents watch the lessons?+

Yes, at the trial and afterwards if the student is comfortable. Many parents prefer the written note after each lesson. There is no charge for sitting in, and it helps parents see how IB and IGCSE questions are set.

What if we do not like the tutor?+

Tell us and we arrange another tutor without asking you to justify the decision. With your permission, the earlier tutor's notes are passed on so your child does not repeat work. A change after one or two lessons is common and quick.
