Cambridge International runs a February and March series that operates in India, and many schools here use it. Not every syllabus is offered in that series though, and the decision to enter a student sits with the school rather than with parents. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE offers a January series and a summer series instead. Ask your subject coordinator which series each of your child's subjects is entered for, because the answer can differ across a single subject set and it changes the whole tutoring plan.

Fewer than the calendar suggests. From your starting date, subtract the school's mock block, the study leave that follows it, internal assessments, and any travel already planned. In practice a family starting in July before a summer series has somewhere near twenty-eight teaching weeks, while one starting in January has closer to twelve, and four of those are consumed by mocks. Doing this arithmetic on the first call is uncomfortable but it produces a plan that survives contact with the term.

It should change shape rather than pause. Teaching new content during mocks and study leave works against the school and confuses the student. What helps in those weeks is paper technique, timing practice and error correction on work already covered. Once mock scripts come back, they become the most useful diagnostic available all year. Resume content teaching afterwards if there is genuinely content left, and if there is not, spend the remaining weeks on timed papers instead.

First confirm with the school that your child is entered for the written alternative rather than the laboratory practical test, because the preparation differs completely. The written version rewards a trainable set of skills: reading apparatus diagrams, identifying dependent and control variables, spotting the weakness in a described method, recording results in a properly headed table with consistent decimal places. Those marks are often the cheapest available late in the year, which makes this component worth targeting when time is short.

Usually not. By that stage the material is either known or it is not, and what raises marks is timed practice done alone followed by careful review of the errors. Daily sessions eat the solitary hours that consolidation needs and leave a tired student who has been taught a great deal and revised very little. A better pattern is a timed paper attempted independently, then a shorter session going through the mistakes, twice a week rather than every day.

A weekly visit is realistic for a tutor already working within the Sector 84 to Sector 86 run. Three a week from outside the belt is where arrangements break, because the inbound journey from Sohna Road or across the New Gurgaon approaches is unpredictable at exactly the hours you need. The practical answer for most families here is to keep one in-person session as an anchor and add short online slots as the date approaches. All of it remains subject to tutor availability.

Tier decisions rest with the school and are fixed once entries for a series are submitted, so the honest answer for the current series is often no. What can be done is to raise it immediately, since some schools have a short amendment window before the deadline passes. If the window has closed, the sensible plan is to teach at the higher standard anyway, secure the best result available at the entered tier, and use that evidence when the next series entry is being decided.

The most recent marked script, ideally a mock paper with the examiner's or teacher's marks visible, matters more than anything else. Add the syllabus codes printed on your child's past papers, the tier where tiering applies, and the exam series each subject is entered for. With those four things a tutor can diagnose in one session rather than three. Without them the first fortnight goes on rediscovering information the school could have supplied in a single email.

Set the checkpoint at four weeks and make it specific. There should be something nameable the student can now do that they could not before: complete a full paper within the time allowed, structure a longer written answer, set out a calculation with units carried through correctly. Score movement on timed papers is the other honest signal. If neither you nor the tutor can point at something concrete after a month, the arrangement needs changing rather than more time.
