IB & IGCSE in Dhoraji

Dhoraji: a Saurashtra trading town with a global outlook

Dhoraji sits on the Bhadar river in the Rajkot district of Saurashtra, a stretch of Gujarat famous for enterprise. Groundnut, cotton, oilseed and other farm produce move through its market, and trading families here have cousins, uncles and sometimes whole branches of the business in Africa, the United Kingdom, the Gulf and North America. Few places of this size think about the world as habitually as a Saurashtra trading family does.

That habit is why an IB or IGCSE question surfaces in Dhoraji at all. A parent who expects a child to study abroad, or to join an overseas branch of the family firm, may ask whether the Diploma or an IGCSE and A Level route is wiser than GSEB or CBSE. We could not confirm any IB, Cambridge or Edexcel school inside the town. Rajkot, about an hour and a half away by road, has more to offer, but a daily commute to it is not realistic for most families.

So the tutoring takes place on a screen. To avoid confusion for anyone searching 'home tuition': no tutor comes to a house in Dhoraji. Physical home visits are run only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR. A Dhoraji student opens a laptop at home, joins a live video lesson and writes on a shared whiteboard with a tutor who knows the course.

The tutor teaches, sets questions and marks them, but does not author any piece of work that will be assessed as the student's own. That covers IAs, Extended Essays, TOK essays and coursework. IB Gram is an independent service and is not affiliated with the IB, Cambridge, Pearson or any school named here.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to Dhoraji school years

For Dhoraji families the IB is usually a plan for the future, not a current enrolment. The programme notes below are written with that in mind: what each stage involves and what a student from a Gujarati-medium or GSEB background meets first.

PYPAges 3-12

IB Primary Years Programme

Young learners investigate themes such as how we organise ourselves or where we are in place and time, using questions rather than a single textbook. The closing Exhibition in the final year is a student-led inquiry. No written exam sits at the end.

A Dhoraji parent planning a move to Rajkot or abroad often wants the child to read and write comfortably in English first, since a PYP classroom assumes it from the start.

MYPAges 11-16

IB Middle Years Programme

Students work across eight subject groups and are judged against criteria, with a Personal Project to round things off. Interdisciplinary units link two subjects at a time, and certain schools add external eAssessments.

A child coming out of a Gujarati-medium middle school has to shift from memorised answers towards explanation, and that shift is where most of our early MYP work goes.

DPClass 11-12, ages 16-19

IB Diploma Programme

Six courses, at least three at Higher Level, sit alongside Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. Most candidates sit written papers in May, and results follow in early July.

Diploma work from Dhoraji is typically for a student who has joined a school in Rajkot, Ahmedabad or another city, or who studies through a boarding route, with Maths and Economics or Business prominent.

CPClass 11-12, ages 16-19

IB Career-related Programme

A few Diploma courses are combined with a career-related qualification, a reflective project and a skills strand. It is uncommon in India and suits students with a defined vocational direction.

Enquiries from Dhoraji for the CP are rare. Those that arrive usually come from a family with a business goal in mind, and we support the academic courses within the programme.

Subject coverage

IB subjects we tutor

Every match starts from the precise course: Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation in maths, HL or SL, and the month of the exam. Saurashtra families are often drawn to the business side of the curriculum, so Economics and Business Management are asked about as much as the sciences.

IB Maths Analysis & Approaches

HL / SL

Functions, calculus and proof sit at the heart, and students who have trained on board-style drills learn to tackle open, multi-step questions.

IB Maths Applications & Interpretation

HL / SL

Probability, statistics and modelling suit trade-minded students, and the exploration can use real local data such as market prices.

IB Physics

HL / SL

Mechanics through to fields, with emphasis on unit discipline, uncertainty and clear written reasoning.

IB Chemistry

HL / SL

Stoichiometry, energetics and organic reactions are practised by writing the argument in full, which is how marks are awarded.

IB Biology

HL / SL

Cell biology, genetics and ecology are taught alongside data-response questions and the wording examiners reward.

IB Economics

HL / SL

Diagrams and real examples dominate, and a student in a trading town has a natural stock of cases on prices, exports and tariffs.

IB Business Management

HL / SL

Case analysis and the internal research project benefit from firsthand knowledge of a family firm or a market yard.

IB Computer Science

HL / SL

Algorithms, databases and networks are paired with programming practice for the solution project.

IB English A Language & Literature

HL / SL

Commentary on unseen texts, comparative writing and the oral, with extra work on academic English for students from Gujarati-speaking homes.

IB Gujarati A

HL / SL

A mother-tongue course where literary analysis and formal writing in Gujarati can lift a student's overall points.

IB Hindi B

HL / SL

Builds formal Hindi writing and speaking, a practical second language for students across Saurashtra.

IB Geography

HL / SL

Water, drought and urbanisation give Saurashtra students strong examples, and fieldwork is planned early.

IB Environmental Systems & Societies

SL / HL

Water use, soil and farming systems around the Bhadar catchment make abstract systems ideas concrete.

IB History

HL / SL

Source analysis and essay writing practised against the clock.

Theory of Knowledge (TOK)

DP Core

Guided discussion of knowledge claims and the exhibition, with no essay written on the student's behalf.

Extended Essay (EE)

DP Core

Support with shaping the question and pacing the research; the writing is always the student's.

IGCSE coverage

IGCSE subjects we tutor

The IGCSE is the more common first step for a Saurashtra family, since it can be studied from Class 9 and leads to A Level or the IB. Begin by confirming whether the school enters Cambridge or Edexcel, then pick subjects that match the intended Class 11 route.

IGCSE Mathematics 0580

Core / Extended

Extended candidates rehearse non-calculator methods and tidy layout so method marks are not lost.

IGCSE Additional Mathematics 0606

Grade 10

Calculus and trigonometry come early, which eases the later step to IB Maths AA or A Level Mathematics.

Edexcel IGCSE Mathematics A 4MA1

Foundation / Higher

Wording and tier rules differ from Cambridge, so practice is drawn from Edexcel's own papers.

IGCSE Physics 0625

Core / Extended

Forces, circuits and waves first, then the written practical paper that is often underestimated.

IGCSE Chemistry 0620

Core / Extended

Moles, reactivity and organic chemistry through steady timed practice.

IGCSE Biology 0610

Core / Extended

Inheritance, transport and ecology with mark-scheme phrasing.

IGCSE Business Studies 0450

Grade 9-10

Case-based answers that use accurate terms, a natural fit for students around family enterprises.

IGCSE Economics 0455

Grade 9-10

Precise diagrams and short evaluations on markets, trade and inflation.

IGCSE Accounting 0452

Grade 9-10

Ledgers, trial balances and final accounts, practical for families running a business.

IGCSE English First Language 0500

Grade 9-10

Timed writing and summary work marked against the published criteria.

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dhoraji

01

Why do Dhoraji families ask about IB and IGCSE?

Dhoraji families who ask about IB and IGCSE are usually thinking about one of three futures. The first is a university abroad. Saurashtra has sent people overseas for generations, and parents in the market yard know how an offer letter from the United Kingdom or Canada depends on a clear set of grades in known subjects.

The second is a business future. A child who may run or expand a family trading or manufacturing firm is well served by Economics, Business Management, Accounting and strong English, all of which sit comfortably within the IGCSE and IB subject lists. Those subjects are taught the same way online as they are in a classroom.

The third is simply keeping options open. A student in Class 8 or 9 at a Gujarati-medium or CBSE school may not yet know whether the family will relocate to Rajkot, Ahmedabad or overseas. Starting English-medium subject work early, and learning to answer in the IGCSE or IB style, makes either choice easier later.

We could not confirm an IB or Cambridge or Edexcel school in Dhoraji, so local teaching for these syllabuses is, in practice, unavailable. That is the gap a live online tutor fills, and it is why this page describes online help honestly and does not pretend to a local centre.

What Dhoraji families are usually planning
PlanTypical age to startUseful first step

Family businessClass 9 to Class 11Economics, Business and Accounting with strong written English

02

How much does IB and IGCSE tuition cost in Dhoraji?

  • Tutor experience and the level taught
  • Sessions per week
  • How close the next exam is
  • Extra work on TOK, EE planning or a school project

No single figure describes IB or IGCSE tuition in Dhoraji, and we do not publish one. A fixed price would treat IGCSE Core English and IB Higher Level Mathematics as the same thing, which they are not. Rates are agreed in writing before any booking, and the first trial lesson is free.

Four things set the rate. The experience of the tutor matters most, particularly at Higher Level, where familiarity with marking bands is a real advantage. The second is the subject and level. The third is the number of sessions per week, and the fourth is how near an examination falls, since dense pre-exam lessons take more of a tutor's time.

A trading family will want to know about value, and the honest comparison is with the alternatives a student in Dhoraji has. A local teacher for GSEB or CBSE costs less per hour, and is excellent for those boards. A teacher travelling from Rajkot to Dhoraji adds fuel and time to the bill. An online specialist in the right syllabus takes neither journey and does not need a car.

We encourage families to ask for the rate for a specific course and number of weeks, in writing, and to compare it with a realistic total, including travel, for other options. The trial lesson exists so nobody pays before knowing whether the tutor suits the child.

03

GSEB, CBSE, IGCSE or IB: which suits a student from Dhoraji?

Most Dhoraji students sit GSEB or CBSE, and both are sound, widely recognised routes into Gujarat's universities and into competitive exams such as JEE and NEET. IB and IGCSE are different in emphasis rather than better or worse. They reward a student who can apply an idea to an unfamiliar problem and explain the reasoning in clear English.

GSEB is often taught in Gujarati, and moving to English-medium IGCSE or IB means learning subject vocabulary in a second language. That is manageable, especially if started in Class 8 or 9, but it is the main adjustment and it takes time. Tutors spend early lessons on scientific writing in English, not only on content.

Independent work is the other difference. An IB student completes internal assessments and an essay of up to 4,000 words. IGCSE leans more on timed papers. Students from a textbook-and-exam background need to learn to plan a project across months.

If a switch is on the cards, Class 9 for IGCSE and Class 11 for the Diploma are the natural doors, with Class 6 for the MYP. Bridge lessons should begin two terms before the change so that the first graded test is not the first encounter with the new style.

Online tuition, tuition classes or a Rajkot tutor: what works from Dhoraji?

For an international syllabus, online one-to-one teaching is the most practical option from Dhoraji. Local tuition classes in town are built around GSEB and CBSE, and they do that well. A few teachers may also travel in from Rajkot. What we could not find is someone in Dhoraji who teaches IB Higher Level Physics or IGCSE Extended Mathematics day after day.

An online tutor can be that specialist. The lesson runs on video with a shared whiteboard, the tutor writes each step, and the student's own work is photographed and marked within the session. A recording can be replayed before a test, which suits a student who needs to hear an explanation twice.

Online study has weak points, and we say so. A Saurashtra summer can cause power trouble in the afternoon, and storms during the monsoon may interrupt the connection. Younger children tire of the screen, so sessions for Class 3 to 5 are shorter and mixed with offline practice.

Self-study has value in the final months, but it cannot replace feedback. Nobody marks the student's written answers or explains why a six-mark response lost two marks, and this is where a tutor adds the most.

How do festivals, heat and the trading season shape the year in Dhoraji?

Saurashtra's calendar is full, and Dhoraji has its own rhythm within it. Navratri turns evenings into garba nights for nine days, and the school day that follows is often short on sleep. Diwali, the Gujarati New Year (Bestu Varas) and Bhai Beej bring several days of family visits. Uttarayan on 14 January fills the sky with kites and closes many roads and rooftops to study.

The second force is weather. Summer in Saurashtra is dry and hot, often crossing 40 degrees Celsius in May, with afternoon power dips. The monsoon, arriving in late June, is uneven; some years are generous, others thin, and the Bhadar river can rise quickly when it is. Our advice is to book lessons in the cooler evening hours and to keep a phone hotspot ready.

Third is the trading season. When the groundnut and cotton harvests come to market, families in the trade work long days, and lesson times that suit in August may not suit in November. We ask about those peaks at the start and leave room to reschedule.

For an IB May session, the syllabus should be finished before the winter break, past papers should begin in January, and the final weeks should address timing and weak topics. IGCSE follows a similar pattern on its own calendar.

06

What university routes open from Dhoraji with an IB or IGCSE record?

  • AIU equivalence for IB Diploma holders where it is requested
  • CUET-UG for central and many state universities
  • NEET and JEE depend on Class 11 subject choices
  • Overseas entry needs differ by university and course

A Diploma graduate from Dhoraji can apply to Indian universities with the Association of Indian Universities equivalence certificate where asked, and several private universities accept IB results directly. For central and many state universities, CUET-UG is the usual gateway, so subjects chosen in Class 11 should reflect the intended course.

Within Gujarat, students often look at Rajkot, which has Saurashtra University, Marwadi University, Atmiya University and AIIMS Rajkot. Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar add universities such as Ahmedabad University, IIT Gandhinagar and Pandit Deendayal Energy University. We name them as regional landmarks, and each one sets its own admission rules for IB and IGCSE applicants, which should be checked directly as they change.

For medicine, NEET-UG asks for Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Biotechnology and English, so Diploma subject choice at 16 matters. For engineering, JEE Main and Advanced have separate subject and eligibility conditions, and the current year's notice is the only reliable guide.

Overseas study is the pull most Saurashtra families mention. The UK, Canada, Australia, the UAE and the United States all understand IB and IGCSE plus A Level, though each university publishes its own subject and grade needs. We advise families to check the course page before finalising subjects.

07

Which IB and IGCSE subjects suit business and trading families?

A student from a trading background often has a head start in Economics and Business Management, because the ideas of price, margin, credit and risk are part of dinner-table talk. The challenge is translating that instinct into the structured language examiners reward: a named concept, a clear diagram, a reasoned conclusion. Tutors work on that translation.

Mathematics remains central. Applications and Interpretation suits a student heading to business, economics or social science, because it stresses statistics, modelling and the use of technology. Analysis and Approaches is better for a student who might study engineering, finance with heavy mathematics, or the sciences.

Accounting appears in IGCSE, not in the IB Diploma, and is one of the more useful subjects for a student who will one day read a balance sheet. The IB offers Business Management and Economics, and some schools offer Computer Science, which suits families moving into technology or data work.

A sensible starting conversation is about the five-year picture: where the family expects the student to be at 18 and 22, and which subject combinations keep doors open. A trial lesson or a diagnostic can test that plan against how the student copes.

08

Core or Extended: how should a Dhoraji family plan IGCSE subjects?

Mathematics and the sciences in Cambridge IGCSE come at Core and Extended tiers, and Edexcel uses Foundation and Higher. The lower tier caps the highest grade reachable, while the upper tier gives the full range. A student planning A Level Maths, sciences or IB Higher Level should usually prepare for the upper tier from the start.

A typical IGCSE programme takes between five and eight subjects. Sensible combinations include English, Mathematics, at least one science, a humanity or business subject, and a language. Students who speak Gujarati or Hindi at home can often add a language as a scoring subject.

Practical components deserve attention early. Some sciences use an alternative-to-practical paper that tests experimental thinking on paper. A student who rarely enters a laboratory should practise it often.

Since we could not confirm a school in Dhoraji that enters IGCSE candidates, some students sit the exams as private candidates at a registered centre elsewhere. Entry dates, fees and practical arrangements differ from centre to centre, so enquiries should begin many months ahead of the series.

Where we tutor

Dhoraji areas and nearby towns our online tutors serve

Every lesson is online, so nothing below is about travel. Neighbourhood names inside a town of this size are used informally, so we describe the approach roads and surrounding towns that shape a family's week.

Dhoraji old town and market area

The compact centre around the main market, where many trading families live above or near their shops; quiet study hours often come after the evening rush.

Bhadar riverbank side

Homes along the river are beautiful in the monsoon but can see power dips when the weather turns; a charged laptop is useful.

Station Road

The approach to the railway station, convenient for families who travel to Rajkot or Junagadh by train.

Upleta Road side

The route north-west towards Upleta, about 20 km away, which has its own large trading community and cousins' households.

Jetpur Road side

Looks towards Jetpur, known for textile printing, and towards Rajkot; many families here have business links in both.

Junagadh Road side

Faces south towards Junagadh and the Girnar foothills; families with a Junagadh connection live here.

Market yard and APMC surroundings

Busy during the groundnut and cotton seasons, when trading families work long hours and evening lesson times shift.

Bhadar dam and outskirts

Low-density areas on the edge of town where a phone hotspot is sensible as a backup connection.

Nearby Upleta and Jetpur

Neighbouring towns whose students face the same lack of IB and IGCSE teachers, and who use the same online route.

Gondal and Kutiyana direction

Towns in the wider district whose families travel to Rajkot for schooling and choose online lessons for their child's syllabus.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dhoraji

Dhoraji and Saurashtra towns

Local schools work to GSEB, CBSE or other state-recognised syllabuses. No IB, Cambridge or Edexcel provider turned up in our checks, so online lessons carry the international syllabus.

    Nearby: Rajkot

Saurashtra's largest city, about an hour and a half by road, and the most likely base for a family who decides to relocate for school.

    • The Galaxy School

    Nearby: Ahmedabad

A longer journey, but the state's main hub for international curricula, and a destination for families who plan a full move.

    • Ahmedabad International School
    • Calorx Olive International School
    • Udgam School for Children

    Nearby: Vadodara

Reached mainly by train or a long drive; some Gujarat families consider it for boarding or for the Diploma years.

    • Navrachana International School

We could not confirm any school inside Dhoraji that teaches the IB or Cambridge or Edexcel IGCSE, so none appears as local. The Rajkot, Ahmedabad and Vadodara names are given for orientation only, because Saurashtra families sometimes consider them for boarding or relocation. IB Gram has no arrangement with any school mentioned and does not speak on its behalf.

    How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

    1. 01

      Share the brief

Send the board or programme, subject, level, current marks and the evening hours that work for your household.

    2. 02

      Hear about a matched tutor

We suggest one tutor with direct experience of that syllabus and describe their background briefly.

    3. 03

      Try a free lesson

Your child has a live video session with the tutor, and both sides see how the fit feels.

    4. 04

      Receive a written summary

The tutor notes what went well and what needs work, and the rate arrives in writing.

    5. 05

      Carry on or swap

You choose a regular slot or a block, and can ask for a different tutor if the fit is not right.

    Why families choose us

What Dhoraji parents tell us matters most

    A specialist, not a neighbour

    Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dhoraji: your questions answered

Can I find an IB or IGCSE tutor in Dhoraji?+

Not locally, as far as we could confirm, but you can study with one online. IB Gram matches Dhoraji students with tutors who teach live on video from elsewhere in India on IST. Each is chosen for the exact course and level, and the first lesson is a free trial so you can see whether the match works before committing.

Will a tutor visit our house in Dhoraji?+

No. Our tutors do not travel to Dhoraji. Home visits are offered only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR. A Dhoraji student learns at home on a laptop, joins a live video lesson and works on a shared whiteboard. Families often find that this gives access to a specialist who would never have been available locally.

Is there an IB school in Dhoraji?+

We could not confirm one in Dhoraji. Schools there follow GSEB, CBSE or similar syllabuses. The nearest confirmed options we know of are in Rajkot and Ahmedabad, including The Galaxy School and Ahmedabad International School. Please check any school's current curriculum directly, since offerings change and our list is not exhaustive.

What does IB or IGCSE tuition cost in Dhoraji?+

It depends on the tutor's experience, the subject and level, and how many hours you need each week. We do not publish a price list. You receive a rate in writing before booking, and the trial is free. Online lessons spare you the fuel and time of a tutor travelling from Rajkot, which is worth counting in any comparison.

My child studies in Gujarati medium. Can they move to IGCSE or IB?+

Yes, though the language shift needs planning. Class 8 or 9 is a good point to begin. The early work covers English subject vocabulary, writing short explanations in science and humanities, and learning how exam questions are phrased. A diagnostic lesson shows where the child stands and how long a bridge is likely to take.

Which IGCSE boards do your tutors cover?+

Tutors teach both Cambridge International and Pearson Edexcel. The two use different codes, paper structures and entry months, so we ask which one the school enters before matching. Cambridge sits in February and March, May and June, and October and November, while Edexcel also has a January series.

Will you write my child's IA, Extended Essay or TOK essay?+

No, and no tutor of ours will. We coach, explain, set practice and give feedback on the student's own drafts. We can help choose a manageable topic, plan the timeline and read the assessment criteria together. The writing, the research and the authorship remain the student's, as the IB and other boards require.

We run a family business. Can lessons fit around shop and market hours?+

Yes. Lessons are scheduled around your household, and evenings or early mornings work as well as afternoons. During a peak trading season, tell us in advance and we plan a lighter or rescheduled week. A fixed weekly slot helps a student build a habit, but the schedule can shift when the family needs it to.

How do we start the free trial lesson?+

Message +91 7439 368 115 on WhatsApp or email support@ibgram.com with the programme or board, subject, level, current grade and preferred times. We pick a tutor and set a trial date. After the lesson you receive a short written note and a rate in writing, and you pay nothing unless you choose to go on.

Will power cuts or monsoon storms disrupt online lessons?+

Occasionally, yes. Afternoon power dips in summer and storms in the monsoon can interrupt a connection. A phone hotspot and a charged laptop solve most problems. If a session is lost to a power cut, we reschedule it, and evenings tend to be more stable than hot afternoons in Saurashtra.

Can a Dhoraji student sit IGCSE or IB exams privately?+

Sometimes. The IB Diploma is normally taken through an authorised school, which narrows the options. IGCSE from Cambridge or Edexcel can often be taken as a private candidate at a registered centre, which may be in Rajkot or further afield. Fees, dates and practical-assessment rules differ, so contact the centre early.

Which subjects do Dhoraji families ask about most?+

Mathematics comes first, followed by Economics, Business and the three sciences, then English. Accounting is popular at IGCSE level because so many families run businesses. We match by level as well as subject, since a Higher Level tutor and a Standard Level tutor prepare a student differently.

Is medicine or engineering still possible after IB or IGCSE?+

It can be, but the subject choice matters. NEET-UG asks for Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Biotechnology and English, and JEE has its own conditions. Because the rules change, read the current year's notice before choosing subjects in Class 11. Our tutors can show how IB or A Level content maps to what those exams test.

How often should my child have lessons?+

Most students do well with one or two sessions a week in term time, and up to three before an exam series. A short block ahead of a school move can be more concentrated. We agree the pattern after the trial and adjust it as deadlines approach or the student's confidence grows.

Do you teach younger children in the PYP or early MYP?+

Yes. For primary pupils the lessons are shorter and more interactive, concentrating on reading, number sense and inquiry. For early MYP we work on writing structure, criteria and study routines. A parent or another adult should be nearby for younger children, to help with the screen and any technical problems.

Are you linked to any school or exam board?+

No. IB Gram is an independent tutoring service, with no affiliation to the IB, Cambridge, Pearson or any school on this page. School names appear only to show the options in the region. Always confirm a school's curriculum, fees and admission rules with the school itself before making any decision.
