IB & IGCSE in Adyar

Which Adyar is this, and why do families here want IB and IGCSE tutors?

First, the name. This page is about Adyar in Mangaluru, Dakshina Kannada, Karnataka, a suburb on the northern bank of the Netravati river. Adyar in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, is a different place with a page of its own. Here, families live among engineering campuses, riverside homes and old coastal neighbourhoods, and most children follow the Karnataka SSLC and second PUC or CBSE, aiming at KCET, NEET and JEE.

A minority look elsewhere. Gulf-returned families, doctors and bankers with overseas ties, and parents who want a route to universities abroad ask about Cambridge IGCSE and the IB Diploma. Mangaluru has a few schools running IGCSE, which we point to below, yet none we could confirm teaches the IB Diploma. When a school is far away or its timetable clashes with the child's, a private tutor bridges the gap.

Read on for the practical picture of online IB and IGCSE tutors in Adyar: schools across Mangaluru, state boards beside international ones, what moves a tutor's rate, how the monsoon and the festival year meet the exam series, where students head next and how to choose subjects. No tutor visits homes in Adyar; every lesson is online.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to Adyar school years

On this coast the Cambridge route is the one students meet at school, while the IB stages usually enter the conversation later, through a house move, a relative or a university plan.

PYPClass 1-5, ages 6-11

Primary Years Programme

Children explore units around big questions and finish with an Exhibition. A tutor's role is small but valuable: fluent reading, number comfort, tidy writing, and the courage to speak up in class.

Kannada, Tulu, Konkani or Beary at home and English at school is a common mix in Adyar, and a patient online tutor can polish spoken English early.

MYPClass 6-10, ages 11-16

Middle Years Programme

Marks come from published criteria across eight subject groups, and a Personal Project crowns the programme. Coaching shows how to read a task closely, plan a reply, and hit each strand of the rubric.

Coming from SSLC or CBSE, a child may know the facts yet struggle to build an argument. Small, frequent MYP-style exercises fix this.

DPClass 11-12, ages 16-19

Diploma Programme

Six courses sit beside Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. We teach the examined papers and the method behind internal assessments; writing any assessed piece is the student's job alone.

No IB Diploma classroom in Mangaluru could be confirmed, so a student following the Diploma through another school or privately leans on a specialist for Higher Level depth.

CPClass 11-12, ages 16-19

Career-related Programme

A handful of Diploma courses join career-focused study and a reflective project. Tutors cover the academic courses and the English behind them.

Seldom seen on this coast. Ask, and each Diploma course gets its own matched tutor.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around Adyar school timetables

Tutors never travel to an Adyar address, which is why all three formats run online; home visits belong only to Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR. Each is live, private and timed for a Mangaluru school day.

Private online lessons from home

The standard choice: a laptop at the family desk and a specialist for your board and level.

  • Shared whiteboard, one tutor, one child
  • Worked solutions explained line by line
  • A short note for parents once the class ends

Pre-exam sprints

Closely spaced classes in the run-up to school mocks or the May and November series.

  • Papers against the clock, then dissected
  • Mark-scheme wording and command terms rehearsed
  • Reserve slots for floods and power cuts

Light weekly maintenance

A single class each week in one subject, to keep alongside school without crowding evenings.

  • Sensible in MYP and early IGCSE years
  • Skipped for Ganesh Chaturthi week
  • Switch subject whenever needed

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Adyar

01

Which IB and IGCSE schools are near Adyar in Mangaluru?

Cambridge IGCSE: a few. The IB: none that we could confirm. The Bharath Academy and TLC Cambridge International School are verified IGCSE schools in the city, and our Mangaluru page describes them. The Cambridge International School in Adyar is affiliated to CBSE, and sources disagree on whether it presently runs IGCSE, so we leave it off the IGCSE list.

To sit in an IB Diploma, MYP or PYP classroom, families generally look to Bengaluru, a long day's drive or a short flight away, with several established IB World Schools. A few board a child there, others relocate, and some keep the Mangaluru home and follow the programme privately with tutor support.

Who asks? People tied to the engineering campuses, medical households around Kankanady and Kulshekar, Gulf-returned families, port and bank professionals, and parents expecting a university abroad. They are usually well informed but find specialists thin on the ground.

Any school we cannot verify stays off this page. If an Adyar school confirms an IGCSE or IB programme, tell us, and tutoring on its syllabus can start within a week.

02

Karnataka SSLC, CBSE, Cambridge IGCSE or IB: which suits an Adyar student?

Karnataka's own system holds the SSLC at Class 10 and the second PUC after Class 12, with KCET opening state engineering and many professional seats. Mangaluru also has plenty of CBSE and ICSE schools and a proud tradition of English-medium teaching.

The IB prizes application and structured argument, and adds an essay, a knowledge course and service to the Diploma. IGCSE lies closer to the board world: subject papers at Core or Extended level against a defined syllabus. A switch from SSLC or CBSE is smoother in Class 8 or 9 than at the start of Class 11.

Parents deciding can start from the table below.

03

How much does IB and IGCSE tuition in Adyar cost, and what moves the rate?

  • Programme and level (SL, HL, Core, Extended)
  • How few tutors exist in the subject
  • Weekly lessons and the plan's length
  • Steady support or a pre-exam block

Nobody here gets a printed price list, because the cost of a plan follows the student, not the postcode. You receive the rate in writing before any trial is booked, so there is nothing to haggle over on a hurried call.

Start with level. Someone who coaches Higher Level Diploma Chemistry, with years of paper experience, charges differently from a person guiding a Class 7 MYP learner. Add scarcity: tutors who can teach Further Mathematics or HL Biology are far fewer than generalists.

Then comes rhythm. Two lessons weekly across a school year is one commitment; a three-week sprint before the November series is another. Our habit is to describe the arrangement, then price that arrangement, never to announce a single figure meant to fit everyone.

Many Adyar parents also compare against weekend classes elsewhere in the city: fuel, queues at the river bridges and a lost day. A lesson at the family desk strips that away.

04

Online tutor, Mangaluru centre, school teacher or self-study: how do they compare?

Four routes are open to an Adyar student. A private online tutor brings specialist syllabus knowledge into the room. A Mangaluru centre teaches some Cambridge material but covers few subjects and keeps fixed batch hours. Teachers at the child's own school know the course yet have limited time. Self-study from past papers works only for the most disciplined learner.

None rules out the others. Plenty of families lean on school for daily teaching and bring in an online specialist for Mathematics and the sciences, where exam technique decides grades.

05

What do the coastal monsoon and the festival year do to study in Adyar?

Rain dominates. Dakshina Kannada is among the wettest districts in India, with torrential downpours from June to September, flooded lanes, fallen trees and failed power. The footbridge to Pavoor Uliya closes in the wet months. So every weekly plan has a spare slot, and a missed class moves by a quick message.

The festival calendar is varied. Ganesh Chaturthi and Krishna Janmashtami in late summer, Dasara and Deepavali in autumn, Christmas in December and Eid on shifting dates all rearrange evenings. Mangaluru Dasara draws crowds, and the Kambala buffalo-race season runs through cooler months. IB, Cambridge and Edexcel exam series land in the middle of this, so dates are fixed early.

Humidity bites harder than heat. A fan or cooler at the study table, and early-evening slots, keep concentration steady in the sticky weeks before the rains.

06

What happens after IB or IGCSE for a student from Adyar?

Three roads open: Indian universities, universities abroad, and professional courses. The Association of Indian Universities grants an equivalence certificate for the Diploma, and a rising number of institutions weigh CUET-UG scores too. Near home stand the National Institute of Technology Karnataka at Surathkal, Mangalore University, Manipal in Udupi district, and the city's medical and engineering colleges.

For engineering or medicine, take care. A Diploma that includes Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry or Biology can be steered toward JEE Main or NEET, but eligibility rules shift, so read the latest notices before locking in subjects. Beyond the coast, Bengaluru, Chennai, Pune and Delhi attract most graduates.

After IGCSE, students go to Class 11 in the IB, A Level or an Indian board. Abroad, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and the Gulf are popular, and many local families already have relatives there.

A tutor can show how subject choices today keep tomorrow's options alive. Dropping Mathematics at fifteen may close several degrees at seventeen.

07

How does online tutoring handle IB Mathematics AA and AI and the sciences?

Analysis and Approaches is for people who like calculus, algebra and proof, the common path toward engineering or pure science. Applications and Interpretation favours data, modelling and technology, suiting future economists, business students and life scientists. Both come in Standard and Higher Level, and one trial class often reveals the better fit.

The tutor's job is to patch what school leaves open: a unit left half-finished, shaky calculator habits, solutions that forget method marks. The two papers demand different rhythms, so timed practice under exam conditions is built in.

Science follows the same logic. Physics rewards instinct for units and magnitudes, Chemistry punishes weak mole arithmetic, Biology pays for the exact word. A shared whiteboard and past questions drive the session, and a parent gets a brief note afterwards.

Higher Level candidates profit from longer sessions before mocks, since the material runs deeper. Standard Level candidates usually do better with short, steady lessons.

08

Choosing IGCSE tiers and boards: Core or Extended, Cambridge or Edexcel?

Cambridge IGCSE sets Core and Extended papers in most subjects. Core caps the top grade; Extended runs the whole scale. Anyone planning to continue Mathematics or a science normally sits Extended. Pearson Edexcel splits Foundation and Higher with the same idea.

Where the child is now, and where the child is heading, settle the tier. Aiming at Diploma or A Level science points to the upper tier. A student who finds the content heavy may bank safer marks lower down, a judgement a tutor can make after some weeks.

Subject mix counts as much as tier. A balanced set of languages, mathematics, sciences and a business or humanities choice protects Class 11 options. Tutors explain what each choice opens or shuts and how school-assessed parts differ between boards.

Students from Kannada-medium or mixed-language homes usually find extended English writing the steepest climb, especially directed writing and structured answers. Regular practice with feedback closes it in a term or two.

Where we tutor

Adyar, Kenjar, Pavoor Uliya and the wider Mangaluru area

This is a river-bank suburb that flows into the larger city, so what matters is bridges, buses and which campus is closest. Here is how each area tends to run.

Adyar village

The suburb proper, about ten kilometres east of the city centre on the Netravati's north bank. Housing runs from older family homes to newer apartments, and evenings are mostly quiet.

Kenjar and the college belt

The stretch near Sahyadri College of Engineering, where staff and student households rent and own. Campus-linked families often arrive from other states and are curious about international syllabuses.

Pavoor Uliya

The island across the river, reached on foot by a bridge that shuts in the monsoon. Wet-season lessons here are booked with a spare slot.

Vamanjoor and Kavoor

Residential pockets toward the city, where one of Mangaluru's Cambridge IGCSE schools has its campus and traffic thickens at school hours.

Gurupura and Bajpe

Northern suburbs along the airport road, with many airline, port and industry families who relocate often.

Kankanady and Kulshekar

Settled city neighbourhoods close to hospitals and colleges, whose doctor and teacher households give Bengaluru schools serious thought.

Hampankatta and the city centre

Mangaluru's commercial core, with its older school traditions run by long-established Catholic and Hindu institutions, and the main bus stand.

Surathkal and the north coast

Past the airport road around the national institute campus, where engineering families weigh Indian and overseas routes alike.

Adyar and Mangaluru: Cambridge IGCSE schools

The Bharath Academy and TLC Cambridge International School are the Mangaluru schools confirmed to run Cambridge IGCSE. The Cambridge International School in Adyar is CBSE-affiliated and its IGCSE status is unclear, so it is not listed here. No Mangaluru school offers the IB Diploma that we could confirm.

  • The Bharath Academy
  • TLC Cambridge International School

Nearby: Bengaluru (north and east)

Bengaluru is where confirmed IB schools sit, a long day's drive or a short flight from Mangaluru. They suit families planning boarding or relocation, not a daily trip.

  • Stonehill International School
  • Trio World Academy
  • Greenwood High International School

Nearby: Bengaluru (south and city)

A second group of confirmed Bengaluru schools on the other side of the city. As above, check boarding and travel carefully before treating them as an option from Adyar.

  • Canadian International School, Bengaluru
  • The International School Bangalore
  • Inventure Academy

Schools are named solely to show where real IB or Cambridge choices lie for Adyar families. IB Gram is an independent tutoring service, unconnected with any school, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and every school makes its own admission decisions.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Tell us what you need

A WhatsApp or email giving board, subject, level and exam session is enough to begin, plus any remark on the school's pace.

  2. 02

    We pick a specialist

Someone who has taught that very course is chosen, and you see a short profile before the first class.

  3. 03

    Your child tries a class

A genuine lesson on a genuine topic, at no cost, so the teaching style can be judged first.

  4. 04

    The fee arrives on paper

Should the trial go well, we write out the fee and plan. Nothing proceeds until you agree.

  5. 05

    Weekly rhythm begins

Live classes at a steady pace, a note after each one, and a replacement tutor if the pairing disappoints.

Why families choose us

What Adyar parents tell us matters most

Your exact paper

A Diploma Economics candidate is never handed a generalist. The tutor has already taught what your child will sit.

Built for the coast

Heavy rain, a closed footbridge, power cuts and festival weeks are all allowed for, with reserve classes.

Clear about the name

This is Adyar in Mangaluru, not the Chennai locality, and we say so rather than blur the two.

Progress on paper

Each class closes with a brief summary of what was covered and what follows.

Explanation, not ghost-writing

Tutors teach method and content. Internal assessments, essays and coursework stay with the student.

Easy exit

The first class is free, fees are written down and swapping tutors costs nothing extra.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Adyar: your questions answered

Is this page about Adyar in Chennai?+

No. It is about Adyar in Mangaluru, Dakshina Kannada district, Karnataka, a suburb beside the Netravati river. The Chennai locality is in Tamil Nadu and is covered by our Chennai page. What we offer is the same in both: live online IB and IGCSE tuition with a tutor matched to programme, subject and level.

Can Adyar students find an IB tutor nearby?+

Not many are based in Mangaluru, so we bring one to you by video. The tutor teaches from elsewhere in India while your child sits at home. We match on programme, subject and level, choosing someone who has taught the real papers, which a teacher grounded in the state board seldom has.

Will a tutor visit our house in Adyar?+

No. Visits to the home exist only in Gurugram and parts of Delhi NCR, so none are offered in Adyar. Instead you get online home tuition: a private class on your own laptop, with a specialist chosen for the subject, not for how close to your door they happen to live.

Is online home tuition truly private?+

It is. One tutor teaches one student per class, never a batch. Home tuition here means private teaching received at home, with the tutor on screen. Parents of younger children sometimes sit in at first, and a short written note after each class records topics, difficulties and the next step.

Which schools around Adyar run IGCSE or the IB?+

In Mangaluru, The Bharath Academy and TLC Cambridge International School run Cambridge IGCSE. The Cambridge International School in Adyar is CBSE-affiliated, and whether it runs IGCSE is unclear. No Mangaluru school offering the IB Diploma could be confirmed, so IB students usually turn to Bengaluru or study privately.

What decides the price of tuition?+

Four things: programme and level, how scarce qualified tutors are in the subject, how many classes you want weekly, and how long the plan runs. We publish no fixed prices. Once you describe your child's situation, a figure is put in writing before any trial lesson is arranged.

Can an SSLC or CBSE student change to IGCSE?+

Yes, most easily before Class 9. Such students typically need bridging work in written English, Mathematics and Science. A later change is harder but possible. A trial class lets a tutor spot the gaps and estimate how many weeks of preparation would be sensible.

What if monsoon rain disrupts a lesson?+

Every weekly plan contains a spare slot, and any class can be moved by a quick message. Missed sessions are rescheduled, not lost. Keep a charged second device and mobile data ready, because lessons are live and no recording replaces them when broadband drops.

Does a tutor write the IA or Extended Essay?+

Never. Tutors explain the criteria, show what strong work looks like, and comment on drafts the student has written. The topic, research, argument and wording remain the student's own, which is what the IB demands and what moderators look for in submitted work.

Are Cambridge and Edexcel IGCSE both covered?+

Both. Their papers, tiers and exam series differ, so a tutor is matched by board code and by subject. Tell us which board your child is registered with. AS and A Level tutoring can also be arranged for students planning that route afterwards.

How do Core and Extended differ?+

Core covers less of the syllabus and limits the top grade; Extended covers more and opens every grade. A student likely to continue Mathematics or a science normally sits Extended. Edexcel uses Foundation and Higher tiers similarly. A few weeks of lessons show which tier is realistic.

When should lessons start before an exam?+

Four to six months is comfortable for a major exam; ten to twelve weeks is the shortest sensible window. The IB Diploma examines in May and November, while IGCSE boards run several series each year. In Adyar, add a few weeks to absorb monsoon interruptions.

Do Indian universities recognise the IB Diploma?+

In general, yes. The Association of Indian Universities issues an equivalence certificate, and many institutions also accept CUET-UG scores. Engineering and medicine need more care, since JEE and NEET eligibility changes. Fix subject choices early and check each university's requirements before applying.

What kind of connection works for lessons?+

A few megabits per second are enough, along with a laptop, headphones and a working microphone. Mobile data is a useful backup. During downpours home broadband can drop, so run a test call the day before the trial and keep a second device charged.

Does the free trial hide any obligation?+

No. The first class is free and you are not committed to continue. It is a real lesson, not a sales pitch. Afterwards you receive a written rate, and nothing starts until you agree. If the tutor seems wrong for your child, a replacement is arranged without a fee.

What if my child does not get along with the tutor?+

We change the tutor at no cost. Chemistry between teacher and pupil matters more than most parents expect, especially for younger children and tough subjects. Tell us whether pace, manner or style was the issue and we shortlist someone else. Class notes help us notice early when a pairing is off.

My child is in Class 8 and may join an IGCSE school. Can you prepare her?+

Yes. In the term before a move, a bridging plan covers the Cambridge style of tasks, written English and whatever the entrance test is likely to probe. A tutor who has taught the syllabus helps a child arrive at ease. A place is never promised, because only the school decides admission.

How do we get going?+

Message +91 7439 368 115 on WhatsApp or write to support@ibgram.com with programme, subject, level, board and exam session. A tutor suggestion and a trial time normally come back within a day, and the fee is shown in writing before anything is booked.
